Night on the Galactic Railroad

Well. Where to start. It is a nearly 2 hour movie that could have done a lot more with the time it had. A lot of scenes felt very long and boring with almost nothing to break up the monotony.

That being said, it had a lot of beautiful visuals and character design. I found myself wanting to be there and explore the side ways of the town and the train. Things that weren't expanded upon.

Even the main part of the story had some large gaps I wanted to know and have filled. Like where was the main characters sister or dad that were mentioned? Did he get home in time to give his mother dinner? Who was the conductor? Why was the prayer so important? Little things that they built up and suddenly dropped.

The train itself was a confusing experience that left more questions than answers too when it started going, but as a journey to the afterlife comparison it was quite wonderful at exploring weird dreamlike states. The only complaint I had, is in a world of nothing but cats, humans coming out of nowhere to join their trip was confusing to say the least, and their expressions were stiff and a little uncanny. Meanwhile the expressions of the cat characters in general were smooth and lively, if a bit subtle.

And without diving into spoiler territory, the ending made me cry. And any bit of media that can coerce that out of me gets points. But... not enough to balance overall how boring, confusing, and open-ended it got.

All in all though I did enjoy the movie. But probably not enough to re watch it in the near future. In fact I'm not sure I would have enjoyed it or understood it without having a friend to bounce thoughts and commentary with during the slow parts. The good part of the movie starts and stops with the beauty of it and the depth of character the supporting cast had even if some of them didn't get the amount of screentime they deserved. Which, as I said, in a 2 hour time span would not have been hard!

I'd love to see these ideas given justice in a remake or show, but sadly I doubt that will happen.

Reading the Hellraiser comics and probably gonna watch the other movies cause even though it wasn't great the hyperfix says to clown.

My favorite thing about having friends in different countries aside from having the opportunity to be more culturally informed is the occasional country vs country shit-slinging contest in which they berate me for being american and i berate them for not.

Started watching the anime City Hunter. It's okay. Good even, though the 80s japanese humor is a little uncomfortable at least it's only brief moments before getting serious again.

Too relatable 

That's me pretty much every day, like I have a lot of shows on my watching list, but I just spend most of my time browsing the catalogue 

I also remembered a show I binged and loved that I forgot to mention here, Shadow and Bone on netflix is some top notch stuff. Based on a book. Amazing character development and no side character feels flat or left out.

I love it so much I really hope it gets renewed for another season.

I hate that too, it'd be nice to have a show with no love triangle at all.

I've noticed something between Action Movie Chads- as i will be calling them- between western and eastern films and cartoons.

Western Chads tend to make a huge display out of how much they "respect" women, often containing dialogues with themselves or other men about how good they are to "their" women or women in general. Or outward and grandiose displays of stereotypical chivalry. Are less direct in their pining but tend to still have in the eyes and the womanizing typically comes from how the director or script writer is portraying the woman as still falling for this whole schtick. And we find it terribly stupid and ridiculous that she ever does.

Eastern Chads, on the other hand, usually pine very overtly, some even going so far as to grope, touch, and openly fantasize about their women. However while some of this is definitely uncomfortable and cringey, is still some sort of humor behind it. That they're being portrayed as pigs and we the audience know their behavior is foul. And the women on the other hand are portrayed as usually disgusted and not swayed at all, and usually have their own seperate characterization. If the woman falls for him at all it's usually because he cleans up his act and finds that he actually loves her rather than sees her as just an object-even if initially objectified. But sometimes he also just never gets the girl and goes back to being just a pervert-even if also the hero.

At the end of the day, it actually feels like Western Chads are the more disturbing of the two since their disrespect-masked-as-respect is just supposed to be accepted and adored. Even if Eastern Chads are a bit more cringe inducing and sometimes even offensive and triggering, its still obvious their behavior isn't the correct one and gets them nowhere.
