Like, by this I mean a whole fleshed out Rowanstar SE that depicts him regaining his leadership over Shadowclan and developing in a way he deserved to instead of being dumped to the side to make Tigerheart look good. Basically, I have a few points and changes I want to make for AVOS in general and tie it into that SE that takes place while Tigerheart’s running about in that twolegplace.
-Due to keeping Violetkit for Shadowclan, Rowanstar himself chooses to mentor her to monitor her and watch how she grows into clanhood. They have a closer bond due to this.
-Violetpaw still bonds with Needletail, but does not stay with Darktail’s crew for long when they drive Rowan, Tawny and Tiger away. She realizes a while in that Needletail is not good news and sneaks away to help Rowanstar and be with Twigpaw instead. This allows for the rouges to be viewed while also seeing Violetpaw’s thoughts and worries.
-Rowanstar and Violetpaw have long talks together, with her being able to recognize his own fears and worries, and she assures him that they’re Shadowclan cats, and that they can’t give up on their home. This boosts Rowanstar’s resolve to help take down Darktail and restore his clan. At some point in the story, Rowanstar and Violetpaw are taken prisoner by Darktail and the rouges after they helped Thunderclan to sneak Ratscar and Oakfur into Thunderclan. As prisoners, Rowanstar and Violetpaw are starved alongside the Riverclan warriors, but Rowanstar refuses to let Darktail break his resolve. He gets knocked down, he gets back up. When one of Rowanstar’s former clanmates does something wrong, Rowanstar challenges Darktail to punish him instead. Rowanstar loses one or two lives this way, which end up convincing his clanmates that he’s more of a leader than they thought, and worth following since he’s given his lives for cats who betrayed him.
-Needletail tries to convince Violetpaw to join her and the Kin, but Violetpaw refuses, wanting to be resilient to her jailers as Rowanstar was. Needletail either lives and flees the Kin to live together away from the clans with Rain, or she still sacrifices herself for Violetpaw so she and Rowanstar can escape back to Thunderclan with the Riverclan Warriors. Rowanstar is assured that Violetpaw is one of the bravest Shadowclan cats he could ever ask for.
-Darktail is defeated and Skyclan is recovered, but instead of Skyclan staying at the lake, they take this opportunity to return to the gorge. In this AU, Twigpaw is the one who joins Skyclan and join Hawkwing and becomes Skyclan’s medicine cat apprentice, whereas Violetpaw actually stays in Shadowclan due to her deciding that she wanted to help restore the broken clan she had come to love. Rowanstar takes note of how difficult the choice is, and later goes on to honor Violetpaw’s choice to choose Shadowclan over her leaving kin’s clan, and names her Violetsky once she earns her name.
-This is where it starts to go into the SE territory/End of AVOS arc. Tigerheart still leaves the clan to pursue Dovewing, leaving Rowanstar frantic to try and get the clan back under control. He has no choice but to name Tawnypelt his deputy, but this time he also has Violetsky to assist him, acting as a voice of youth and reason to him. In this timeframe, Rowanstar navigates his shaky leadership and receives a dream from Starclan, with the leaders of Shadowclan’s past coming to test his resolve. They show him the pine forest blocked out with shadows, one singular rowan berry tree/bush left in the shaded forest, bursting through the shadows by keeping its roots planted firmly against the darkness. So long as Rowanstar keeps his head and digs in his roots, he will find what he needs to slowly bring light to the pine forest again. His dream ends with the sky above the rowan berry bush beginning to gleam with a violet morning glow, a sign of Violetsky’s importance in his destiny.
-Rowanstar spends the next few days thinking of his dream, what it must mean. He confides in Puddleshine, trying to decipher it. Rowanstar comes to the conclusion that he must remember his own roots and how Shadowclan’s past can still shape its future while also changing to prevent them from becoming battle hungry rouges again. In doing so, Rowanstar begins to incorporate leadership tactics from Shadowclan’s leaders before him, recalling Nightstar’s resilience against another tyrannical monster and how he rebuilt Shadowclan from Brokenstar’s reign. Recalling Tigerstar’s failures and evil, resolving to never let his clanmates suffer from tyranny of his own, and maintaining that they will never be rouges like Bloodclan was. Recalling Blackstar’s strength and promise to put Shadowclan first, above all else, and becoming far more strict with unruly Warriors and Apprentices, while also being more willing to listen to their grievances and work with them.
-Rowanstar telling his younger clanmates about the horrors he witnessed in his youth, of the murder and conscription of kits by Brokenstar, of Nightstar dying sick and alone, of Tigerstar murdering Stonefur and starving and torturing cats just as Darktail had done, of the forest being destroyed and the clans having to come together, a reminder that all 4 clans must live, must be together around the lake. Rowanstar apologizes meaningfully to his clanmates, for ever letting them feel as if they were disrespected, for not being strong enough back then to stop Darktail. He vows to them all that he will no longer fail them, that he is their leader and that he will spend all of his lives to prove that to them all.
-Sleekwhisker and Yarrowleaf still return to rejoin Shadowclan, and Sleekwhisker still steals the kits and holds Tawnypelt captive, but Rowanstar, Violetsky and Strikestone are able to fight and kill Nettle, and chase off the other rouges. Rowanstar loses a life after a fatal blow to protect Yarrowleaf’s kits, and this triggers Violetsky and Strikestone to team up to take Sleekwhisker down. Strikestone has to take his sister down, and Violetsky consoles him. They grow closer after this. Yes, Violetsky x Strikestone for this AU.
-Or, alternatively, the rest of the arc will have Skyclan’s events replaced with Sleekwhisker being the villain and attempting to make Shadowclan fall in vengence for Darktail. To which Rowanstar leads his clan to fight one last time against the remainder of the rouges and to defeat Sleekwhisker, outlining his newfound desire to be strong in spirit and leadership. Strikestone is still the one to kill Sleekwhisker though, with Violetsky helping him.
-Tigerheart and Dovewing return to the clan at this point with all the city cats. Rather than chasing them off, Rowanstar chooses to be more accepting of outside cats who can help the clan as many had desired when Darktail’s rouges were around. This time though, the new additions are dedicated and peaceful. Rowanstar is sternly disappointed that Tigerheart broke the code and left, but still welcomes him and Dovewing in when he sees their kits, all three with eyes like his own. Tigerheart loses his deputyship though as punishment, but he doesn’t mind so long as he’s with Dovewing. Shadowclan gains new apprentices and grows in numbers.
-Rowanstar speaks to Violetsky later in his den, thanking her. She’s confused as to why, but he tells her that he finally realized what his dream meant. He needed to find a way to root himself down to be unwavering and strong in hardships, but that the light he needed to protect and restore the pine forest, aka Shadowclan, was her. He’s convinced that Violetsky is destined for great things, and that she truly was always meant to be a Shadowclan cat. That she was crucial to restoring Shadowclan. This warms Violetsky, who admits that she’s glad she stayed, that she can see Rowanstar in a strong platonic light, like a father/daughter relationship.
-Later on, once Rowanstar assigns Violetsky her first apprentice going into TBC, she and Strikestone are mentors together and start a relationship. Though, this is also when Tawnypelt decides to step down, not only because she’s getting older, but because she believes that Shadowclan needs younger leadership to balance out their wisdom. She looks at Rowanstar knowingly when she tells him she’s stepping down, and chuckles that they both know who Rowanstar needs to appoint as his deputy. Cute RowanTawny moments because we deserve a healthy leader/deputy ship unlike you know who. And thus, Violetsky becomes deputy of Shadowclan, and grows well into her role going into TBC. She and Strikestone do still have Rootkit, named after the importance of Rowanstar’s vision and of her own importance when it comes to roots, and Needlekit, though I’m considering changing her name to Dawnkit to honor Dawnpelt, one of the cats who was kindest to Violetsky and after Strikestone’s mother. So Rootkit and Dawnkit.
I have plenty more I want to touch up on and edit, I’ll need to re-read AVOS again to get it all perfectly down, but to summarize.
-Rowanstar lives and regains his leadership
-Rowanstar is Violetpaw’s mentor and they grow a stronger bond
-Violetpaw does not stay with the Kin and instead helps restore Shadowclan at Rowan, Tawny and Tiger’s side.
-Skyclan returns to the gorge and their scenes are replaced with conflicts with Sleekwhisker and her remaining rouges.
-Violetshine’s name is Violetsky instead.
-Tigerheart never becomes leader, stays as a loyal warrior raising Shadowkit, Pouncekit and Lightkit.
-Rowanstar receives guidance from the former leaders of Shadowclan to create a newer and stronger method of leadership for his clan.
-Strikestone and Violetsky fall in love and Strikestone kills Sleekwhisker to avenge their mother.
-Violetsky becomes deputy of Shadowclan by the end of AVOS/Beginning of TBC, and also has her kits. Strikestone becomes Shadowclan’s Fernsong in the nursery while Violetsky does her duties because yes please.
-Rootkit, Shadowkit and Bristlekit still have their roles in TBC and yes, Root can still see ghosts, as Violetsky is the one who gains Tree’s power in this AU as Shadowclan’s prophesied light, and passes them onto her son. No Sisters or Tree in this AU, sorry!
I’ll start writing a better outline when I have time, but any suggestions would be cool on what else I could incorporate into this.
