Basilwhisker
Basilwhisker nodded. "The ones we ran into eith the fox did seem pretty friendly." He stood up and nodded to the others before heading over to Crowflight and telling him to be prepared for anything and the plan if a fight broke out. When he was dodondodone he went over below the Guardian Oak to set up another patrol.
Gazepaw
While Gazepaw and Snowdapple talked he smiled. There was nothing consequential said. As he laughed he tilted his head up snd saw Cloudear's signal. He nuzzled Snowdapple's muzzle and said his goodbyes before trotting over to see what was the matter.

Flamestar As the other two dispersed into camp, Flamestar headed over to his den. Instead of going inside, the ginger tom leapt onto the very top of the log, watching the clan. He thought about the meeting and what opportunities and threats it could bring. "Please Starclan, let me be right." He murmured to himself. Cloudear Cloudear sat down as Gazepaw neared. "I am going with Flamestar to the meeting tonight." She announced. "I'll only be gone for a little while, but you'll have to give the elders their herbs." The medicine cat paused for a moment as she made a realization. "I also promised you I'd show you some of the more rare plants I've come across. are you ready?" |

Basilwhisker
The deputy watched as cats went to and fro in the camp. He spotted Brackentail and walked over to him. "Hey Brackentail. Do you think you could lead a border patrol with Turtleheart and Coalpaw?" He asked. He decided he should stay in camp and rest while he waited for the patrol to get back. He sat down and waited for the other tom to reply.
Gazepaw
Gazepaw watched Cloudear as she talked to him. He nodded at the fact that he would have to give the elders their herbs for the night. He nodded even bigger when she asked about showing him some of the rarer herbs that grew nearby. "What herbs do the elders get again I know we could chew up some confrey root if their joints are acting up."
(I started searching for something to use there cause I don't remember anything specific they have given to elders for their aches and pains besides poppy seeds.)

Brackentail Brackentail turned his head to look at Basilwhiker. "Sure thing." The warrior replied, dipping his head. The dark furred tom looked around, spotting both Turtleheart and Coalpaw. He was about to go round them up but stopped to ask Basilwhisker a question. "Is there any particular border you want us to patrol?" He inquired. Cloudear Cloudear thought for a moment. "I think we might be low on comfrey root." She claimed. "If they are having joint pains, it might be better to use some fresh daisy until we can gather more. I'll show you where you can get some while we're out. Also, if Lichenrock comes in complaining of a cough again, just give him a juniper berry and he should be good." With that, the medicine cat started to lead the way to the camp entrance, giving Basilwhisker a quick nod as she passed by the Guardian Oak. (I have a link to the wikipage with all the herbs and their effects. I can send you it if you'd like.  ) |

BasilwhiskerBasilwhisker had already layed down to relax when Brackentail asked his question. He thought for a moment before deciding. "How about the border along the old bridge. We haven't checked that one yet." He nodded to Cloudear as she passed with Gazepaw. GazepawGazepaw nodded getting to his feet. "Fresh daisy and a juniper berry." Gazepaw repeated before following after Cloudear. They passed Basilwhisker and Brackentail talking. "Okay so what are these rare herbs?" (I think thats the one I found to use for the comfrey root. But thanks for the offer  )

Brackentail "Alright." Brackentail meowed. With a respectful nod, the tom turned away and padded towards Turtleheart. He greeted her, then informed her of the patrol. The she-cat stood up, arching her back in a stretch. While she was getting ready, Brackentail headed over to where Coalpaw was. "Coalpaw, We've got the evening patrol." He announced. Cloudear The medicine cat walked out the camp entrance and headed in the direction of the Twoleg-place. After just a moment, she tasted the air to make sure she was in the right place. "Alright Gazepaw, this patch of daisy over here is the closest one to camp. We'll gather some on the way back so you don't have to go out later." (no problem, any time!) |

Coalpaw had been lounging when Brackentail came up to her. She nodded and got to her feet stepping toward her mentor. "Who is going with us?" She asked shyly.
Gazepaw
Gazepaw followed Cloudear out of camp and into the forest. He looked around the patch of daisies familiarizing himself with the surrounding area. "Okay. I'll try to remember where this is."

Brackentail "It's just Turtleheart, you and me." Brackentail replied as he looked over at the camp entrance. "C'mon, we don't want to leave Turtleheart waiting." With that, the tom turned towards the entrance, where Turtleheart was also headed. Cloudear Cloudear gave Gazepaw a moment to look around and familiarize himself with the spot before heading on. They reached a part of the territory that often had standing water and Cloudear led them to a small clearing. In the center was a large purple plant. The plant had a cylindrical shape with a rounded out bottom and a leaf over the top. "I'm not quite sure what to make of this one." Cloudear admitted. "I found it a few moons ago and I'm not sure if it has any medicinal value." (Figured having a random plant no one knows about could help if we want to have a mysterious sickness pop up at some point. It's pretty much a pitcher plant if you want to look up what it looks like.) |

Coalpaw trotted toward the camp's entrance not wanting to be the last one to get there. She parted her jaws in a yawn and shook out her fur. Ready to go on patrol now that she had woken up her muscles.
Gazepaw
Gazepaw felt his fur rise automatically when he saw the plant. It was quite a sight to behold. He walked up and sniffed it. "How could we use it? Maybe use its roots like we do with other plants?"
(A carnivorous plant as a medicinal herb? Interesting)

Brackentail Brackentail watched as his apprentice outpaced him, taking the lead. Once at the entrance, he nodded to Turtleheart and they headed out. As they walked, Brackentail matched pace with Coalpaw. "You know, I never got to ask you, what did you think of the Moon Mushrooms?" Cloudear Cloudear thought for a moment. "It wouldn't hurt to try as long as we make sure it isn't poisonous first. I'll ask Flamestar and see if we can't get someone to catch a live mouse. If it eats the roots and doesn't die, we'll know its safe to use." (Pitcher plants are insane. They've been known to eat rats in some situations.) |

Coalpaw thought for a minute while she walked beside Brackentail. "It was a strange place. I felt a weird sense of power there and it made me nervous." She said slowing her pace a little.
Gazepaw
Gazepaw nodded. "Are there other rare plsnts around here?" He asked feeling like this plant was creeping him out. He started to claw anxiously st the ground.

Brackentail Brackentail sympathized with the apprentice. "I know what you mean. When I went for the first time, I was so on edge that my fur wouldn't stay flat. I remember what Smallnose, the medicine cat at the time, told me. He said that the power you feel when you go to the Moon Mushrooms is the presence of Starclan. That's where their territory intersects with ours, which is why we're able to talk with them there." Cloudear "There's one more I want to show you while we're out." Cloudear stated. She led the apprentice up and back in the same direction of camp. They deviated from the normal path, however, and headed back more towards the thunderpath that sat a ways behind the camp. After a while, the trees grew more scarce and eventually a small grassy field was visible. In the field was an assortment of purple and white flowers. |

Coalpaw nodded and smiled. "I like thinking about it that way. Do you think Flamestar saw Thymestar?" She asked thinking about the past leader. "I was worried I'd see something I wasn't supposed to so I turned my back on him to watch for danger."
Gazepaw
Gazepaw gave one last glance to the weird plant and walked away. He noted that they were heading back towsrd camp this time. He gasped when he saw all the purple and white flowers. "What herb is this?" He asked curious about them.
(I'm surprised the erins didn't have cats using aloe to heal wounds but I guess it probably doesn't grow in the ground very much its more of an indoor plant.)

Brackentail "Maybe, but leaders aren't allowed to talk about what happens when they gain their lives, so I doubt any cat will ever know except for him." Brackentail replied. "And I'm sure both Coudear and Flamestar appreciated having you around to stand guard. You did good by making sure nothing could sneak up on any of you." Cloudear "These are called Camas." Cloudear meowed as she headed into the field towards the plants. "These herbs are best used fresh, so I don't use them as often as others. If the purple flowers are chewed up into a salve, they help prevent infection. If you are ever using these, be extremely careful. The flowers look the same aside from the color, but they are actually two different plants. The purple flowers are safe, but the white flowers are poisonous. It would take more than one flower to kill a full grown cat, but it would not be pleasant." The medicine cat nipped off one of the purple flowers for Gazepaw to inspect. (aloe i don't think likes cold temperatures, so it makes sense. We have a good bit that grows naturally down here in Florida) |

Coalpaw sighed. "Thanks. I just did what I thought was best." She parted her jaws and started to scent for anything out of the ordinary. Not smelling anything she kept walking.
Gazepaw
"Its a good thing we aren't colorblind then." Gazepaw said trying to lighten the mood. He took the purple flower from Cloudear and sniffed it before investigating it further with his eyes.

Brackentail "That's a good thing." Bracketail replied. He could see the old twoleg bridge in the distance. "Trusting your instincts is important for a warrior to learn." The tom tasted the air as they neared the border, making sure there were no traces of danger. Cloudear Cloudear let out a snort of amusement. "We wouldn't be very good medicine cats if we couldn't tell the difference between our herbs, now would we?" The medicine cat picked a few more of the purple flowers. "They might not last as long as other herbs, but we might as well bring some back just in case." |

Coalpaw smiled at Brackentail's praise. She paused and looked over to the Old Bridge and shivered. She didn't like anything to do with the twolegs. "My instincts tell me to avoid that" she said pointing to the bridge with her black tail.
Gazepaw
Gazepaw nodded. "We have to be so careful sbout which herbs are which." He said thinking about all the mistakes he could make. He shook his fur and helped pick a few more flowers making sure they were all purple.

Brackentail Brackentail looked at the twoleg bridge. "Well, your instincts are probably right." the tom replied. "Flamep- I mean, Flamestar almost fell through that thing once when we were apprentices." "I remember that!" Turtleheart piped up. "He came back to camp with that nasty gash on his leg and Stormtail fussed over him for a moon!" "He was so embarrassed. And it didn't help that Rosefur kept making jokes about it." The tom fell silent for a moment before refocusing the conversation. He looked back at the apprentice. "If you ever have to cross that bridge, be very careful. Make sure to test each step before putting your full weight down." Cloudear "It's important, but once you get familiarized with all the herbs in our territory it isn't too difficult." The medicine cat replied. She found a nearby dock plant and nipped off one of the leaves. "Come place that Camas down so I can fold it up." |

Coalpaw eyed the bridge with contempt at hearing the story. She nodded and kept walking. "Does he have a scar from it?" She asked her eyes wide. She scented the air as they got nearer to the border.
Gazepaw
Gazepaw set down the Camas and stepped back. "We're lucky enough to have all our senses. The elders have told me stories about cats hard of sight, hearing, and smell. Our jobs would be so much harder that way." He sat to wait for Cloudear to move on.

It wasn't as bad as it looked according to him, though he definitely didn't have Stormtail convinced." Once they reached the edge of their territory, Brackentail looked around. "Coalpaw, do you want to remark the border?" Cloudear "Undoubtedly. Apparently, my mentor's mentor was blind. I do not envy them." Cloudear meowed as she wrapped up the Camas. She picked up the dock leaf in her jaws. "Alright, lets get back to camp." |

"I bet Snowdapple would be like that if Wishpaw or I got hurt. Or even Gazepaw." Coalpaw said before nodding and following the border marking it as she went. "How are Willowtail and the kits by the way?" She asked as she continued to mark the border.

"Wow it must have been hard for them to treat wounds." Gazepaw said walking with Cloudear. He then remembered about the daisy and said "But lets not forget about collecting the daisy."

Brackentail "She's managing." He said, amusement rich in his voice. "Those kits are getting big, though. Duckkit keeps trying to sneak out of the nursery whenever Willowtail isn't looking. I caught him trying to drag a mouse out of the fresh-kill pile the other day, but the thing was nearly as big as he was, so it looked more like he was wrestling it. I can already tell that whoever ends up mentoring him is going to have their paws full." Cloudear "I almost forgot!" Cloudear exclaimed. As they walked back, Cloudear made sure to lead them back to the daisies. When they approached the flowers, Cloudear set down the camas and spoke again. "Gazepaw, do you want to try packing the daisies up?" |

Coalpaw laughed. She was nnormally a very quiet and reserved cat but the thought of a kit the size of Duckkit wrestling a mouse was funny. "I think I want to be a mentor one day." She said with a purr.
Gazepaw
Gazepaw followed his mentor back to the daisies and looked around for a dock plant to use to wrap up the flowers. "Sure. I'll give it a try." He said once he had found a good leaf. He plucked some leaves from the daisy and wrapped them up in the dock leaf. "Ready when you are" he said before picking up his bundle.

Brackentail "I'm sure you'll get your chance eventually." Brackentail replied after tasting the air again. "It's got its challenges, but as long as your patient with your apprentice, everything'll work out fine. Just be glad you won't have to mentor Duckkit." Turtleheart spoke up. "Well, considering the fact that you, rosefur, Flamestar and Crowflight all have apprentices, I'll probably end up mentoring the energetic little furball." "Starclan help you." The tom replied humorously. "You'll have to sit on him so he doesn't run off." Cloudear Cloudear nodded her head to her apprentice and picked up the camas in her jaws before making heading back to camp. She made sure not to go too fast, so Gazepaw wouldn't drop his bundle of herbs. |

Coalpaw nodded as she continued to move along the border. "I bet he could run circles around me if I let him." She chuckled at that and started to mark the border again. She padded through the stream and came out of it on the other side.
Gazepaw
Gazepaw followed Cloudear back to camp holding his bundle gently. Making his way through the underbrush was a little more difficult while holding the bundle. He sighed a muffled sigh and kept walking until they reached camp. He padded inside and went to the medicine cat den to set down the herbs and add them to their spot in the stores.

Brackentail Brackentail followed through the stream, shivering as the water lapped at his fur. He quickly made his way across then turned to make sure Turtleheart made it too. "Not too much more and we can head back to camp." He meowed. "I'll have to bring a ball of moss in to keep Duckkit entertained so Willowtail can get a rest." Cloudear Cloudear let the apprentice place the daisies down first before she set down the camas. Because she didn't regularly have the camas in her stores, she had to do a little bit of reorganizing, but it wouldn't take long. "Gazepaw, if you're hungry, you can go ahead and eat. I can handle the rest here." |

Coalpaw nodded as she picked back up on the border scenting as she went. She marked every few inches and thought of something to add to the conversation. "I'm sure Wishpaw would love to play with the kits sometime. I know she wants to hsve her own some day." She said thinking about her sister and the kits playing.
Gazepaw
Gazepaw nodded and went off to the freshkill pile where he selected a mouse. He padded off to the elders den to lay with the elders and eat his food.

Brackentail Brackentail ducked under a low hanging branch. "Well, that's certainly a long way off." He remarked. "I may just see if she'll preoccupy the kits for a bit one day. I know Willowtail's aching to get out of camp for a bit." He kept on walking. "Hopefully when the two get older, Spottedkit can knock some sense into her brother so we won't have to worry so much." Cloudear Cloudear made quick work of reorganizing the herbs. She stepped back, looking everything over before giving a nod. "That's that." The medicine cat thought about grabbing something to eat, but she wasn't too hungry so she decided to just get a little nap in before they left for the meeting. She curled up in her nest, her tail draping over her nose. |
