As children, we are taught how the solar system was created. We are told how pioneers selected the perfect sun, one which emitted the ideal amount of light to illuminate and sustain life. We are taught how the planets were captured from other solar systems and drawn to our perfect sun. These planets were also selected by the Pioneers: One with the perfect atmosphere and landscape to sustain billions of people. One with enough fresh water that we could never run out. One rich in minerals and metals that could be mined for millions of years. The Pioneers even became creative and gifted the planets moons. These served no practical function but for their aesthetic beauty. Then they brought people to live on these planets, to bring them rich color and culture. And so that is how we all came to be here. Even through conflict and turmoil, we are reminded that this system was crafted delicately by those who came before.
What they never teach you, however, is that whatever can be created can also be destroyed.

As you might have gathered from the introduction, the setting for the roleplay is a man-made solar system. It has a sun, three planets, and a few moons. Travel between the planets and moons is done on ships that resemble pirate ships. In fact, most of the aesthetic of the world is based around the historical 18th century, with carriages and palaces. There are also elements of technology, for example some animals are mechanical or cyborg (part mechanical, part biological). This is because the solar system was created thousands of years ago by people called "the Pioneers." Not much is known about the Pioneers, and much of the history about them is mixed with myth.
The three planets orbit around a sun much like our own. The planet closest to the sun is called Invictus. It is a rocky planet with little water that is primarily used as a location for mining. The resources there are used around the solar system, and land on Invictus is fought over because it contains precious minerals and gems. Most of the people who live on Invictus are miners. The atmosphere is not as ideal as other planets, and it is said to be toxic to live on for more than a few years.
The second planet, and the most populous, is called Augusta. Augusta is comparable to Earth in that it has an atmosphere that maintains livable environments. The land on it is diverse and boasts many populations of different people. The regions are divided up into areas called Provinces. Although some are independent, most owe their allegiance to the ruling family called the Illusionists (more on them later). Many of the Provinces are self-governing but they pay taxes to The Illusionists and think of them almost as deities. There is frequently conflict between the residents of Augusta as they fight over resources, land, and rights. Augusta also has a moon called Vesta. Vesta is a mostly barren place, although its atmosphere makes it livable. One side of the moon always faces Augusta and is referred to as "the light side." Very few living things venture onto the light side because it is too hot/dry to sustain life. The dark side, however, is inhabited by some of the wealthiest people in the solar system, including the Illusionists. The dark side is a beautiful place with elaborate gardens, man-made lakes, and many lights. It is always night there, but the palaces and cities glow glimmer with lights that can be seen from space.
The third planet is named Nerio, and its entire surface is covered in fresh-water ocean. Most of the life there are sea creatures including giant mechanical whales, squid, and colorful fish. The ocean varies in depth with some parts being only ankle-deep and other parts too deep to fathom. Nerio is the least populated of all of the planets. Some people, however, live on man-made platforms that house palaces and trading ports. Others still live in underwater fortresses. The biggest power in Nerio is the royal family called The Vanishers. They travel between all of the planets and moons, but their true home is Nerio.

Most of the people who live in the solar system are just like you and I. Most of them work as farmers, merchants, sailors, miners, etc. There are a few notable outliers, however, and those will be highlighted in this post.
โผ Cyborgs: Though they are technically born just like any person (unless they are manufactured, which is the case for some miners of Invictus), cyborgs are considered their own race. A certain percentage of their bodies are mechanical rather than biological. For some that means they only have a mechanical eye or arm. For others, their entire bodies are machine except for their brains. In the solar system, machines can reproduce on their own, which is why many animals are also mechanical despite living in the wild.
โผ Conductors: People with special abilities also exist in the solar system. It is said that the Pioneers were Conductors who could rearrange the stars. Scientists explain Conductors as people whose bodies interact differently with dark matter, channeling it to influence the world around them. These people can be born anywhere and at any time, although they must have the Conductor gene in order to be one, and it is recessive. For this reason, Conductors are very rare and the most famous among them belong to only a handful of families. The powers among Conductors are also very diverse. Some are mild, like the ability to see at night or advanced strength. Proud Conductor families, however, pass on incredible powers to their children. The two most famous of these families are the Illusionists and the Vanishers.
โผ The Illusionists: The ruling family of large swaths of Augusta, though the Illusionists call the dark side of Vesta their home. Everyone who marries into the family must be a Conductor so that their children are passed on the powerful Illusionist gene. Their name is rather self-explanatory as the Illusionists can manipulate the perceptions of the people around them. Some can change the environment, others their own bodies and faces, and others still can infiltrate thoughts. Most of the people in the galaxy either revere or fear the Illusionists. It is said they cannot be trusted because they infect the minds of anyone they meet. They also own about half of the land in Invictus, which they use for mining. For the most part, however, the Illusionists stay up on Vesta where they rub elbows with the wealthiest and most powerful people in the solar system. They have lavish parties in their royal villa called The Garden Palace. It is called such because stretching out before it are vast gardens of flowering trees, glowing plants, and exotic animals.
- King Arko: Age 48, the power of indestructibility (illusionist by marriage), NPC
- Queen Ceries: Age 49, the power of shapeshifting, NPC

- Princess ____: Age 22, the power of _____
- Prince _____: Age 18, the power of _____
- Prince Sinica: Age 15, the power of tactile hallucinations ratvich
โผ The Vanishers: The counterpart of the Illusionists is the other most powerful family in the solar system called the Vanishers. They are also Conductors, but their powers are vastly different. They have the ability to move through space and time. Some in the family can create portals, others manipulate time around them, and others still can traverse galaxies within seconds. Unlike the Illusionists, the Vanishers are less interested in acquiring wealth. They primarily see themselves as peacekeepers for the solar system. They act as ambassadors between provinces, advocate for human rights, and look after the precious environments of all the planets. They have bases all around the world, but their primary one is on Nerio, the ocean planet, where they have a submarine palace.
- King Felix: age 51, the power of teleportation, NPC
- Queen Jelena: age 47, the power of prophecy (vanisher by marriage), NPC

Before joining, here are a few things to keep in mind:
- This is a semi-advanced to advanced roleplay. Replies will be several paragraphs long, so be prepared to give your rp partners that much to work with on each response. Quippy dialogue can be shorter and starters will tend to be a bit longer
- Please don't be afraid to bring your own ideas to the table in terms of characters/plot/setting. I know it can be intimidating to join an original fantasy roleplay for fear of getting the lore wrong. But trust me when I say I will love your ideas! Just go for it! Feel free to make up cultures, categories of people, abilities, places, etc.
- Try to be as active as possible. I am totally sympathetic to everything people have going on in the real world. Just let us know if you need to take a break or are leaving permanently so roleplay threads don't halt in the meantime c:
When it comes to joining, the way to go about it is to first read through everything on the front page and check out the character page. Next, be sure to ask me (either on an rp-related thread or over pm) if you're planning on making a family member of the Illusionists or the Vanishers, just to be sure that slot is open. I'm sure it will be fine by me, but sometimes I'm slow to update the front page so it might be someone else has claimed a slot or is making a very similar character. After that, you're welcome to post on the character page and get to roleplaying!
Keep in mind that some characters are NPCs, meaning I will explain how they look/act but they can be used by anyone as needed within the roleplay. If you think of a character that would be useful to have around but which you don't plan on using for POV, go ahead and let me know.
If a family is listed with a blank name/ability on the front page, that means they are free to claim. The ages and genders are essentially placeholders. If you want to adjust those, that's okay.

Aspects of this will be updated as we go. Will include information on history, religion, culture, politics, etc. I'll be adding to this section as people ask questions about certain elements of the world, just so we have all relevant information stored on the front page. I've also broken up the sections and given them spoiler dropdowns so it doesn't become too cluttered. If you have ideas about any of these topics, please share!

Additional planetary bodies:
Salus: Aka the "Destroyed Planet." About seven years ago it was a prosperous planet, one known for its flourishing jungles. It was not as populous as Augusta or Invictus, for most of its people belonged to small indigenous tribes. But then they were attacked. The solar system was alerted too late to intervene, and even if they had, there was nothing that could have been done. By the time the Vanishers sent people to investigate, the planet was utterly destroyed. Holes were blown clean through it, making the planet fracture into pieces that are now only held together by heavy vines. The world itself is a phantom of its former green, flourishing self. It is now gray and terrible, with only the fiercest animals having survived.

1. The World Eaters: Both the Vanishers and the Illusionists have known about the World Eaters for many generations. There are stories that have been passed down about them throughout the ages, of dimension-traveling wolves who bring destruction with them. But recently there have been real encounters with the pack, racing across landscapes, eliminating entire swaths of land and wildlife. Some characters must investigate the origins of where the wolves come from and how to stop them. Some others set off to track them in hopes of stopping them from causing any more destruction.
2. The Joining of the Two Families: The Vanishers and Illusionists have a long history wrought with turmoil and hatred. But with the world changing and new threats facing the solar system, they decide to join their two families together. The oldest son from each family will marry the oldest daughter. Two marriages, so that their powerful heirs may become the future rulers of each family. Why two rather than one? Well, even in joining together, the royal families must gain any advantage they can. Each of them want their hooks in one of the young couples, and they will not see their plans fall to pieces.
3. Tension Within: The world eaters are not the only threat to the royal families. Some other conflicts sometimes seem more immediate and tangible. For example, revolutions have been starting up across Augusta, with people from many provinces claiming that Conductors have oppressed working classes for far too long. Certain members of the family must travel to Augusta to see if they can calm things down, only to find that the culprit behind the uprisings is a cult dedicated to the World Eaters.

The ballroom was loud in more ways than one. Chatter from hundreds of people collided together to form a persistent din. And below it was the thumping rhythm of live music. But the sounds were bearable after a while. It was the visual stimulation that made Aever feel like he had walked into a vivid dream.
The room itself was cavernous and ornate. Imposing columns rose from the shiny ballroom floor and cast up to the vaulted ceiling. Darkness pooled in the corners, ceilings, and halls of the palace. It gave the impression of endless night. Of course, that was not far from the truth. The dark side of Vesta never experienced real daytime. But the palace was made to feel elegant and warm nonetheless. Gleaming candles and strings of flowering lights were scattered around the ballroom like stars. A fountain was at the center of the room, and its watery base floated lily pads and small candles. All around it, people gathered.
Each of them was more exotic and beautiful than anyone he had seen in the solar system before. The men were tailored and immaculately groomed. The women wore colorful dresses in floating, silky fabrics. He spotted a huddle of girls who looked like water nymphs next to the fountain. Their hair was luminescent shades of orange, purple, and pale yellow. He wondered if their bare shoulders were cold. One of them caught his gaze and winked. Instinctively he returned the gesture with a half-smile, one which quickly faded as he remembered first that he was no longer a bachelor and second that there was a task at hand.
He promptly looked away, searching the crowd for his family. The Vanishers were easy to miss among the opulence, himself included. He was dressed in formal military garb of his familyโs slate gray. He did not envy the other party goers for their finery, but he drank in his surroundings with observant eyes. He could not let himself relax. His family was there to save the solar system, not drink fizzy champagne and flirt with nymphs.
He tried not to focus much on the Illusionists. Even when looking away from them, they seemed to emit an imaginary light that called his gaze to return. At times he could not look away. Near the back of the ballroom was a long table on a raised platform. Around it sat many people, but at the center was the Queen and her handful of attendants. She was deceptively beautiful, with sleek blond hair and a gown of countless rich colors. Atop her head was a crown adorned with spindly feathers and tiny pearls. She was sipping wine and laughing with her ladies.
Had she forgotten what this event was for? To announce the union of their two families? Was she not fretting over the impending marriage of her children? He knew the same could not be said for his own mother. He felt a pang of affection for her, and searched the crowd for her familiar, unassuming face. He could not find it.
Alas, he would have to carry on mingling and acting as though everything was normal.

She had tried, she really had. Deverah felt no remorse as she slipped off her heels and padded down the empty colonnade away from the party. After all, she had technically fulfilled her promise to her mother: Iโll make an appearance. There had been no specifications about how long that appearance needed to be. A few dutiful minutes of schmoozing with Vesta noblemen was all she could handle. Besides, her main job had been to open the ceremony with an illusion that made the partygoers oooh and ahhh. Sheโd given them dancing trees of glimmering light and stalking tigers that elicited a few nervous gasps.
But the opening fanfare was past and the party had devolved into endless mingling and politicking. Sometimes Devarah had patience for it, even enjoyed it. But tonight she was feeling gloomy and she was never one to conceal her emotions.
The gardens were the perfect setting for her emotional state. The silent lawns, the murmuring trees, the flighty birds that leaped from their perches as she passed. She walked along the colonnade, ignoring any kindred spirits who had also slipped away from the noise. Soon she reached a stone path that led down into a dip in the land. Below, there was a glittering pool through which she could see the silhouettes of fish gliding through the reflected stars.
She lifted her skirts and sat at the edge of the pool, dipping her feet into the cool water. Then she sat back on her elbows and looked up at the sky.
โNature is the perfect salve for a troubled mind.โ
The gravelly voice from behind the princess did not shake her from her reverie. She wiggled her toes as a few curious fish inspected them then darted away. Then she looked back over her shoulder, sighing.
Grandfather Mors was concealed behind the overhang of the grotto at her back. But she could see the serpent-like rope of his tail, and feel his enormous eyes watching her from the darkness. There was no point in hiding her thoughts from him. Perhaps that was why she had come, so that someone could understand her gloom without her vocalizing it. She returned her attention to the fishpond and felt a sudden urge to jump into it.
โYour mother would lament the loss of such a lovely gown,โ stated Grandfather Mors. He was reading her mind again. His voice was stern but she sensed an amusement in it also. Devarah huffed dramatically and lay back on the stony ground, using her mane of curls as a pillow.
โI donโt care what she thinks,โ she stated indignantly. โI generally donโt care what traitors think.โ
โCeries is many things, but a traitor to her family is not one of them.โ The low rumble sent a vibration through the ground. Devarah tilted back her head so she could gaze into the grotto, searching for her grandfatherโs eyes in the shadows.
โOnly traitors marry their children to their greatest enemies,โ she retorted. It was pointless to argue with her great grandfather, this much she knew. But the words escaped her lips as easily as water down a stream.
โWhat is the point in being angry on behalf of your siblings?โ asked Grandfather Mors. He was not being argumentative. She could tell from his tone that he was prompting her to reach the logical conclusion without judgement. โThey can choose for themselves what role they will play in the coming fight. Now ask yourself. Are you truly upset with your mother? Or are you simply afraid of life taking its natural course? As royal children, it is your destiny to marry in order to serve the solar system. One day you will be asked to make that sacrifice as well. Perhaps it will be easier to accept when it is your own fate rather than that of a loved one.โ
Devarah did not answer. She simply chewed on her lip and stared up at the sky. Hot tears rolled down her cheeks and she made no move to wipe them away.

((woot, it begins!))
~ JUNAI ~ Junai felt extraordinarily uncomfortable.
The eldest princess was already not one for parties. They felt like a chokehold made of dancing bodies and shuffling fabric, a trap set up by a thousand judging eyes and twisted smiles. Every time someone glanced at her, kindly or not, Junai wanted to haul her skirts up in her hands and crawl right under the table.
And said table she was trapped at, figures seated on either side, with her mother gesturing theatrically amongst her starstruck ladies. It felt like she was seated upon a stage, to be gazed upon and laughed at, as if Junai were a performer with no script. Well, no script other than โHow are you doing tonight?โ and โThank you, it was a gift from my mother,โ and โYes it sure is cold tonight.โ
Speaking of cold, Junai shifted with much discomfort to hoist up her neckline again. It was not a pleasant dress to be decorated in, with off-the-shoulder sleeves and a sweetheart neckline that kept tragically sinking. Junai did like it at first. Conceptually. It was a pretty periwinkle blue with full, fluttering skirts of tulle, embedded with teeny-tiny rhinestones and fabric butterflies that danced and twinkled under the lights.
Actually putting the thing on was another story altogether. Honestly, Junai would like the dress a whole lot better if it was put on someone thatโs not her.
โDarling, you wouldnโt want to look drab, do you?โ the queen had fussed, pressing another silver gem-studded clip into Junaiโs braided updo. โYouโre meeting your striking to-be-fiance! You donโt want to be all covered up! Itโs the dark side of the moon, not the dark ages!โ
They had both proceeded to share a laugh at the wordplay before Junai said, โMom. No.โ
She relented, in the end. She could never truly say no to her mother.
Which, really, was what landed her in this predicament. Junai was pretty conflicted on the whole arranged marriage. On one hand, she didnโt mind so much. She knew as the eldest daughter of the Illusionists it was bound to happen for logistical reasons. She figured a long time ago that her worth mostly came as a pawn or a trinket for her family to trade off whenever the need arose, and honestly she was kinda relieved that she had any worth at all. It didnโt feel like a tragic end to her freedom or entrapment to someone she didnโt love. It felt kinda nice that she could somewhat contribute to the whole saving of the solar system thing. Besides, sheโs heard stories of arranged marriages that ended with the two falling in love with each other through shared experiences and domesticity. That idea definitely appealed to her romantic side.
On the other romantic handโฆ oh how Junai couldnโt stop thinking about the idea of a one true love. A soulmate, out there in the solar system, someone to complement her perfectly, someone who she would share a glance and feel something snap into place. Besides, she was still nervous. What if her fiancรฉ turned out to be a brute of some sort? Junaiโs heard of those stories too.
Out of the corner of her eye, Junai spotted Devarah sneaking out, and promptly wanted to cry out to her sister. Nooo, donโt leave me, why!
Another glance to her mother, it seemed like she didnโt notice. Maybe that means Junai can sneak out too? It wasnโt like she was contributing any dazzling conversation.
Junai slowly wheeled herself backwards from the table. No one gave her a second glance. With a short, relieved sigh, Junai gripped the wheels of her wheelchair and spun towards the little ramp off the raised platform. She was just going to speed on off, then. Maybe she can go hide in the corner and read the book of poems sheโs hidden in the sash tied around her ribs. If anyone asked she was going to the bathroom.
It was, of course, painful trying to navigate amongst the far too crowded ballroom. Any โexcuse meโโs and โpardonโโs were promptly swallowed up by the noise, and Junai was far too timid to possess the demanding presence that would sway the crowd to part before for, as her mother often did. Even worse, halfway through her quest for solitude, Junai realized that she lost her book.
Stupid thing mustโve slipped out from under her sash before sliding off her lap onto the dance floor. She knew she shouldโve stuck it somewhere more secure, but alas this dress, with all its design flaws, also possessed zero pockets.
Well, gosh darnit, Junai thought grimly as she turned back. Thankfully, it was easy to spot - slim, small, dark-covered, lying on a shiny tile. Junai hurried pushed herself over, only to find it stuck under someone's heel.
โExcuse me,โ she tried to say, looking up at the slim figure dressed in gray, dark hair braided in rows. โExcuse me. Youโre standing on my book.โ
