»Anaris Vass
The warmth that radiated off of the couple made the princess feel better about meeting everyone else. Of course not everyone was going to be this easy to talk with and their questions were going to be much more than are you nervous. There would be questions about policy changes, how was this alliance going to work and they'd need to know the answers. Luckily Ana had paid attention in the meetings she'd been to. She knew what to say she just hoped it would be enough to have the people support this marriage. Not that it mattered too much, it was going to happen in a week so there wasn't much time for change and she already was invested in him. So anyone else's opinion of the matter was irrelevant.
A smile spread across her lips as he confirmed his feelings to be about the same as her own. As much as he showed it in his praise and overall pride of her introduction to his family, it was calming to actually hear that he shared her nervousness but now it was more excitement than anything else. Now that she'd met her prince and husband to be, the only thing that worried her was what they were going to face, war was eminent and his people needed help. That was a lot the both of them were going to take on together, so it was going to be a challenge to say the least. For a moment she looked at him and for once, how he felt wasn't painted across his face, but soon that changed as the small smile found it's way to his lips. Of course, it was infectious and for a moment they were just there, smiling at each other as he squeezed her hand gently. She wasn't sure how well they'd rule or what they'd be facing, but she did know that no matter what he'd be right there with her. Knowing that, made the idea of ruling a kingdom seem like a task even she was ready for.
Anaris grinned at the duchess as she felt her slender fingers wrap around her own, she squeezed back happily. "I wish you both the same. And you'll hear from us often, I'll make sure of that." Family was important and judging by the way the two cousins had interacted they really didn't see each other often and Anaris didn't want that to be something normal. The princess didn't have a large family, at least not that she was super close to. Her mothers family looked down on her since she hadn't been born a boy, a queen taking the throne was unheard of so they kept their distance usually. A few of them were here though, glad she was going to have a man beside her, thinking it was something she needed. Her fathers family was almost nonexistent at this point, most had died in battle or lost to old age the only person he had left was the youngest of his brothers. So any bonds he had needed to be kept, moving to her kingdom would be no reason the duke and duchess didn't have their own room for when they visited or that Anaris and Orson didn't make trips to see them for a day or more when things were calm.
She laughed as he turned to her with that same excitement he'd come into the throne room with, "I'm glad they do, I like them too." Her free hand moved to push another stray hair that had managed to wiggle its way out. Her eyes landed on a family member she knew all too well. It took everything in her not to frown, of course they were here. Why would they miss the chance to judge her and her prince?
"Oh Ana darling! You aren't going to pretend like we don't exist now are you?" A girl, only slightly taller than Anaris walked over and the presence she carried betrayed the happy sounding words as he eyes scanned over Orson cold enough to send a child over the princess.
"My cousins.. Arrei and Kaela. " She whispered, and it was clear by the annoyed tone that very quickly replaced the happy one, that she did not like them in the least. As the two woman drew closer the princes forced a smile. "Arrei, Kaela." She said, trying to sound as happy as she could. Anaris wasn't a good liar though so it didn't work all too well. "I'm so glad you could make it."
The taller of the two girls looked at Anaris for a moment before saying anything. "Of course we made it, we wouldn't miss it for the world." Her eyes moved to the prince and a for a moment she looked like an animal who'd found her next meal. "And this must be your husband to be..." She snapped back to Anaris, "Well, introduce us." Her voice grew harsh for a second before she smiled at the prince.
Anaris narrowed her eyes at them, not trying to hide it anymore she glared daggers at them. "This is Prince Orson my-" The short one waved her hand at the red-haired woman cutting her off before she could begin to compliment the prince like she'd planned.
"Princess Arrei, of Malinia," Arrei smiled offering her hand to him. Shortly after the taller woman stepped forward offering her hand as well.
"Princess Kaela of Malinia, how, cute that you both are, matching." The girl said it like the happy accident was a bad thing or that they didn't look good and Anaris squeezed the strong hand holding on to her very clearly just try to bite her tongue and be nice.
»Silas Payne
It wasn't hard to tell she was nervous and defiantly wasn't used to things like this at all. While Prince Salis was nervous, she was panicked. Though his words seemed to help a little bit, not much but a little. He was a little happy him being there helped. That was a good sign right?
He took her hand and lead her with ease, her touch was still very timid and hesitant. Silas on the other hand had no problems with placement or avoiding most of her slip ups as he moved her through the room. The tall prince smiled at her and chuckled as she stepped on his foot for the first time during the night. The man didn't flinch, if he felt any pain from it he didn't show it. His goal was to make her feel better, even if his feet by the end of the night would be swollen and they had to cut the shoes off of him, he wouldn't give away that she was stepping on him. The sent of lavender made him forget everything around them, it was just her and the beautiful golden waves of perfection. By the time she'd stepped on his foot for the third time he couldn't help but laugh a little. "You don't need to apologize, I told you strong feet. If you step on them all night I won't mind."
Not skipping a beat he spun her, making sure he was in full control of her motions with a firm hand. he could feel the judgement and it honestly made him mad. Normally he was very cool and level headed rarely caring enough to get mad at anything but the judgmental eyes that fell on the princess made something burn inside him. Any nervousness on his part was gone and a protective shell set in. The green gaze hardened locking on a rather plump woman who whispered to her friend, snickering about how clumsy his flower was. He had done his best to avoid her stepping on him, trying to protect her from embarrassment but he'd not managed to avoid it every time. He'd have to work on that.
His flower? For a moment his face went blank, and he looked back down at her studying her for less than a second. Yes, his flower. She was delicate and now more so than normal the sweet princess seemed afraid. There was no way he was going to let that happened. He didn't care if this wasn't his kingdom and that as of yet he had no power here, he was going to make sure the snickering woman knew he didn't play games. Snapping out of his thoughts the girl stopped moving all together, he hadn't even really felt her step on his foot that time since he had been so lost in his own mind and anger that was bubbling beneath the surface.
Her hands were shaking, this was more than just nervousness. He'd held his youngest brother through enough panic attacks to know what was happening. I don't know if I can do this. Her voice echoed in his head for a moment before he reacted. An overwhelming feeling of protective rage washed over him. He dropped one of her hands and held tightly on to the other and looked at her for a moment before speaking. "Then you don't have to." With that he pulled her across the dance floor and right passed the round and now that he got a better look, poorly coordinated woman. If looks could kill the party guests would have needed to be questioned for who had done it, because his eyes held nothing but resentment for that rich irritating woman.
His mother and father watched as he moved through people quickly. There was fire in him they'd honestly never seen before, neither of them moved to stop him they just blinked and turned to the girl's father for a moment. It was clear something had happened it was clear the princess wasn't used to this kind of attention.
Within minutes they were outside on a patio area, that had thick velvet curtains that were shut. He throw them open still pulling the girl along with him. As soon as it closed behind them he pulled her into a hug, making sure her face rested against him toward open air so she could breath. "You can cry if you need to. I wont look. We can stay out here as long as you need. And if that is till the end of the ball then they will just have to deal with it." Though, he very much wanted to give that woman a piece of his mind and make her feel as little as he could.
What on earth was this sudden rage, he hadn't felt this protective over someone since his youngest brother had been born seven years ago. Clearing his throat with the smallest chuckle, "Just please tell me if you need to throw up." He voice was calm, firm as he was trying to control the temper that was raging now, and quiet. He didn't want to upset her any more. His hand moved to her head, his fingers moving through her hair combing it gently as his eyes watched for anyone coming outside. Not that he really expected anyone after how mad he'd looked at the people he noticed whispering as he'd taken her outside.

Orson
Damek and Eleanor watched the two go with soft eyes as they linked together once more, Eleanor leaning her head on his shoulder. They didn’t have to speak to know they were both thinking of how much the two reminded them of each other, and how happy they were together. They could only hope that nothing would interfere.
Fate, it would seem, had other plans.
Orson didn’t notice, however, as the two separated from them. His eyes were glued to Anaris as she brushed a strand of hair back, only to have it fall back in her eyes. He gave a shy smile before his gaze followed hers. He tilted his head slightly, focusing as he turned his gaze on her, reading her reaction. He took in the glare and the annoyance blooming across her features in disgust, marring her usually cheerful disposition. His brows furrowed together slightly as he noted the fake happiness she plastered over her features as they drew near.
Who on earth could disturb his Princess so deeply?
He turned his dark eyes over towards the two strutting peacocks and fought to keep his own disgust in check. The two haughty birds were preened to impress, though they fell mighty short of that title. He was unimpressed, to say the least, and he looked ready to curl his lip and turn away. But, out of respect for Anaris and her family, and the future image of their kingdoms, he maintained a carefully reserved expression, unreadable to those who didn’t know him.
As the taller girl gazed him over with that unnerving look, he straightened slightly, features hardening in distaste. He was not one used to open admiration, nor did he care for those who failed to respect others’ personal space or feelings. He allowed his eyebrows to furrow closer as the two woman rudely glossed over Anaris. At Arrei’s outstretched hand, he stared in distaste for a long moment before bending down. He took her hand and gave a polite smile and squeeze as he bowed before her. He straightened, returning the same curtesy to the other princess before fully straightening up once more.
”A pleasure to meet you both. It is quite the honor to be in such dignified company,” He greeted, as charming as ever, though his eyes were cool as could be. "I am honored to be matching with such a beautiful lady as Anaris. I can only hope to compliment someone who outshines me so effortlessly,” He smoothed over her insult with genuine warmth as his eyes fell on Anaris, gaze affectionate and expression softening into his usual, welcoming self. He gave a soft, gentle smile as he tenderly reached a hand up to her. He hesitated for just a moment before his fingers gingerly brushed her hair behind her ear once more, eyes warm and bright on hers.
For just a moment, it was only them once more.
Talulla
Talulla could feel an all too familiar friend settling into her bones as they stood there, frozen in the dance. It had started when she was a young child, after the funeral ceremony of her mother had paraded through the kingdom, starting in this room and ending in her grave just beyond the old willow at the farthest exit of the maze. The dread that had been increasing through the afternoon and into the evening had finally begun to peak, and she couldn’t stop the shaking anymore. Her ears burned cherry red, though her face remained pale gray, her lips trembling as she swallowed hard, breathing hitching in her throat. She gave a faint, barely audible sniffle, blinking rapidly as she heard the whispers grow around her.
”Oh my god, is she crying?” “Surely this is not the same princess meant to be queen.” “She’s lucky her marriage is arranged, I wouldn’t pick her.” “Such a handsome prince for such a messy girl.” “I mean, do you blame her? You know her mother died—long reign the queen, may she Rest In Peace.” “Yeah, but you’d at least think the servants would learn to dress her. I mean, look at her! How old is supposed to look.” “She looks like nothing but a small, silly girl.” She heard the whispers and felt her chest cave in on itself, a small ache that she had fought to suppress rising. Ah yes, her mother’s death.
She knew everyone wasn’t here to celebrate the wedding. She knew they were here to stare at her father. See if he was suffering just as much as the last day they had all seen him. They were here to see if she had grown up at all, locked away in the castle, no guidance or rules or supervision. They were here to judge her lack of upbringing, pity her dead mother and, subsequently, her. She didn’t want any of their pity, their shame. Normally, she’d storm out, angry and upset that they thought they had any right to know her suffering. That they though they had any right to look at her pain. But instead of anger, all she could feel right now was shame and fear. Everyone was looking at her, expecting her to be a suddenly perfect princess, ready to marry and rule, and she couldn’t even waltz.
Now that’s not true. You love dancing. It’s the heels, and you know it.
Okay, so maybe it was partially the heels. But, the fact still stood that she wasn’t a perfect princess. She didn’t deserve Silas, or the crown, or anything. Truthfully, she didn’t want any of it. Silas was a perfect prince, so strong and stately, twirling her and doing his best to make her look good? She didn’t deserve that, no matter how much she wanted it. Wait, what??
Suddenly, she wasn’t drowning. Rather, she was stumbling. She blinked, forcing the tears back as Silas began to pull her through the crowd. ”Then, you don’t have to.” His words caught her so off guard, she forgot how to move for a moment. She regained herself, following him as he wound through the crowds, head low and gaze on the ground as she struggled to keep up, fighting to tune out the voices, chest aching more with every step. She could feel her father’s disapproval, and she bit her lip, blinking hard at the fuzzy ground, struggling to breath. I’m sorry, father. She couldn’t tune out the crowd, though.
”Where are they going?” “This is highly improper!” “Of course she can’t dance.” “That poor prince!” “He deserves so much better.”
The silent king’s eyes narrowed as the two came to a stop, rising from his seat next to Queen Nera and King Zyre. He made no move, watching as Silas whisked the girl from the center of the ballroom, eyes darkening as his lips pursed slightly. He sank back in his chair, turning to meet the concerned gazes of the visiting king and queen, and he gave an exasperated, tired sigh. ”I thought she was over this.” His tone was stoic, and it was clear that there would be no further explanation as the whispers expanded, the chatter rising as the prince and princess disappeared through the curtains to the patio.
Talulla stumbled onto the patio with a gasp, one hand clutching her chest. Every part of her chest ached, feeling as if her ribs were constricting and caving in on themselves as they stood there in the twilight, summer air. The stars were beginning to twinkle above them, but she looked away. She didn’t deserve the stars’ gentle pity either. She cleared her throat, struggling to make sense and compose herself when suddenly Silas was dragging her forward again. She stammered incoherently, fighting him for a moment before she crashed into his chest. Wait, what??
His arms wound around her, pulling her to him and crushing her into him, though his arms were gentle and secure. She was frozen as she stared through his armpit at the garden behind him, gasping slightly, struggling to breath. ”You can cry if you need to.” She wanted to laugh at his statement. She didn’t cry; She hadn’t cried in years! She was the stone cold princess, distant and aloof and sheltered from the kingdom, the princess that couldn’t handle any sort of attention. She didn’t cry, because that would mean she was worth pitying. And, she didn’t deserve pity.
But then, his fingers found his way into her hair. And just like that, Silas had wormed his way into her heart.
She couldn’t remember the last time someone besides Constance had hugged her. She certainly couldn’t remember what her father’s hand felt like, much less his hug. She felt stiff and foreign beneath Silas’s gentle touch, and she had no idea what was happening. But then, his fingers connected with her head, and she felt chills tingle down her spine. The only person that had ever stroked her hair in such a soothing manner like this was her mother. And so, suddenly, the anvil on her chest hardened, and she very much needed to cry.
Talulla unfroze then, thawed by Silas’ gentle and tender touch. She gave a soft, strangled gasp, finding control of her arms and throwing them fervently around Silas, pressing herself completely to him. Warm tears began to run over her cheeks and down her chin as her lip trembled, body falling against his. He was warm and smelled of wood and herbs, and his arms were strong and secure. She knew she didn’t have to pretend here, with him. So, she cried. She was quiet and still, a surprising side effect given how intensely she was crying, choking back sobs. Her fingers curled around his suit as she buried her damp face into his chest, gripping him for dear life as an anchor. Around them, small thorny vines began to draw near, forming a small protective circle around them as she finally gave in to the anxiety and terror and forbidden grief she had been fighting all evening.
She finally managed to slow the tears, still failing to make a sound other than the soft, muted sniffles now and again. To anyone watching, they were just two people embracing each other under the twilight. She began to relax, her grip softening though her hands did not uncurl from around his silken fabric. She turned her head, finally, taking a shaking, deep gasp of fresh air. Her eyes were puffy, nose red and cheeks flushed, lips swollen slightly, tears streaking down her cheeks as she leaned her head against his chest, closing her eyes. She relaxed, leaning against him fully now, trusting him to support her weight, head tilting slightly back into his hand at his touch. What could she say to explain this to him? Hi, I’m Talulla and my mother’s dead, and my dad hasn’t hugged me since, and also I don’t want to be a princess.
”I’m sorry,” She finally mumbled, not opening her eyes. Her eyebrows furrowed together slightly with anxiety, grip tightening around his suit once more as she shifted, pressing her face into his damp chest, inhaling his scent deeply. It was calming, cleared her head. ”I’m sorry I ruined your suit,” She spoke to his ribs, taking another deep breath. At their feet, the vines shifted slightly, opening a pathway from the patio to the garden, small blue flowers popping up as they did.
”I cannot explain how grateful I am for you right now,” She finally opened her eyes, tilting her head back to look up at him, a small smile gracing her lips. She pulled one arm free to swipe at her leaking eyes and nose, sniffling softly. ”Anyway, balls are stupid and dumb, and I hate these stupid heels and anyway, I wanna show you something,” She finished, eyes sparking slightly as she spoke. It was clear she had some unchecked anger herself that she was fighting hard to swallow back down, taking another deep breath to try force her chest to stop hurting.
”Come on,” She sighed, pulling free. She kicked her heels to the side ungracefully before turning back to him with a cheeky grin. She rubbed her eyes for a moment with a yawn, much like a small child would, before stretching. She turned to look at him expectantly, smiling nervously as she tucked her hair behind her ear, small wildflowers popping up at her feet. She moved closer, hesitantly taking his hand, cheeks turning pink under the growing starlight as she waited, making sure he was okay with it for a moment. Then, she steeled herself, turning to lead him into the garden, party forgotten, eyes still puffy. From the balcony above, Dario flicked his tail before darting back into the castle, making his way down to Constance.
Constance let herself into the ball, making her way through the crowds before coming to rest beside the king. She gave a curtsy to the royals, bowing her head politely as she spoke. They argued in hushed tones for a minute before he abruptly stood up, dismissing her with a wave of his hand. King Maynard was not one to sit around and prattle.
”My apologies for the delay, but I have just been informed that tea and desserts are ready in the dining hall with a special performance from our guest violinist. After, I will be happy to answer any questions regarding the wedding in six days time,” He announced, clapping his hands. His booming voice easily silenced the chattering crowd, the band coming to a halt as he did. The crowd was still for a moment before Constance gave a small wave from the door and the crowd began to funnel forward to follow the portly woman. Dario slipped against the stream, rubbing against the king’s legs as he passed. King Maynard rolled his eyes, but followed the kitten’s path with his gaze as Dario danced through the velvet curtains to the patio. His eyes narrowed slightly.
”If you’ll excuse me just a moment, I will join you and the rest of the party shortly,” He said with a bow to the royals of Elizazar. Then, he made his way to the curtains. He slipped out to the patio, taking cautious note of the vines and small flowers. His gaze followed them to the path where he saw her exquisite heels strewn to the side, and he rolled his eyes, giving a slight, exasperated sigh. He didn’t have to look too far before he caught up with the shrinking figures of the two, hand in hand as they began to enter the maze. His expression softened, a strange look crossing the tired king’s grief-laden features. He was, honestly, happy to see wildflowers again. It had been a while since he had seen those, and knowing Silas was the case was a reassurance he hadn’t realized he had been waiting on.
”Alright Dario, keep an eye on them for me. I’ll go entertain the guests,” He smirked slightly at the cat who mewled back indignantly before trotting along happily, keeping a good distance behind the pair, melding into the shadows while the tired king steeled himself slightly before returning to the chattering, irritated party.

»Anaris Vass
The prince's words of praise brought color to her cheeks almost instantly. He was so formal to the women, it was clear even after only having known him for a few hours that the rigid formality was his mask he wore. She did the same thing, smile, nod, and play the part. A princess with manners and poise, though he seemed to put the face on much better than she did, seeing as she couldn't keep herself from glaring at the two girls the difference in hidden emotions was clear. The two women however took no mind of the look the red-haired princess gave. They were focused on him, Anaris could have been a curtain he stood beside for all they cared. As his hand reached out to fix her hair for her she felt her heard stop for a moment. The glare that was fixated on her cousins vanished and softened. Slowly a small genuine smile found it's way to her lips.
Her skin tingled as his fingers brushed against her face with the tenderness equal to a feather floating in a summer breeze. She'd all but forgotten about the sister who stood there but that did last long. The moment was interrupted by the dismissive hum of the Kaela "Yes, outshine of course. She has always been good at that." Her voice was dry but she wore a smile. Hiding distaste apparently wasn't something that ran in the family at all. The two glanced at each other before eyeing Orson again, Anaris could tell something mean was about to slide out of Arrei's mouth and her body tensed beside him.
"So. There weren't any princesses closer to your, upbringing. I mean a smaller kingdom of course. Must be odd being around people so much more fortunate than yourself.I mean those clothes are borrowed I'm sure" She said, clearly trying to get a rise out of him or Anaris, which ever suited her just fine.
"Bite your tongue." Anaris said firmly her eyes locked on her, "Didn't your mother teach you to respect those above you. And as a future King, he out ranks you by miles." The princess glared at her, but her voice was calm and that was the scary part. "Lucky for your kingdom, your brother will take the throne making sure your ignorance isn't shared throughout the kingdom. Arrei I suggest you go before things get uncivilized. Learn how to hold your tongue and perhaps one day you'll and your sister will be lucky enough to even have a prince to marry at all." Her blue eyes had grown angry, how dare that annoying woman insult him like that. As if being from a smaller kingdom was something to be ashamed of.
Arrei just stood there in shock beside her the younger of the two stood with her mouth open like some kind of fish. "Why-" She stomped her foot. "I-Well. You!" The princess stumbled around her words, for once pretty quiet but furious. The red haired woman stood there, unwavering, they could make fun of her all they wanted but she'd not have them bully Orson. Of course, she was sure he knew how to take care of himself, that wasn't the point. The point was, well, she liked him and she'd have no bratty princesses trying to make him feel like he didn't belong. If she said he did then he did. Upbringing. His mother was a lovely woman and as far as she was concerned and had seen the prince was a far better person then their of those two fluffed up birds could ever hope to be. Upbringing, they were one to talk. For what was probably far to long the two girls stood there glaring at Anaris before finally huffing and leaving.
As soon as they were out of ear shot Anaris turned to him putting her hand on his gently. "I am so sorry for that." She breathed, still very bothered by the situation. "Those two have always been...well idiots." Anaris gave his hand a soft squeeze, "Don't listen to them, they think they are better than gods themselves."
»Silas Payne
His arms stayed wrapped firmly around her and he had to catch himself a bit as the girl pressed all of her weight into him, it wasn't that she was heavy or anything, it had just caught him off guard. Honestly, he didn't know if she was going to push him away and try to fight him or if she was going to accept his comfort and he was glad she'd accepted it. His hand didn't leave her hair though, he continued to run his fingers through the golden waves not saying anything as her felt her tears soak through the black silk.
He could have cared less about how wrinkled, wet and messy he was going to look when she was done with how tightly she was gripping his suit and sobbing. He leaned down resting his head on hers as she cried for a moment he closed his eyes taking a deep breath, he didn't like seeing her cry like this. It made him get a bit choked up and that was new, sure he cried over sad books or sad things but seeing someone else cry had never done that to him before. Silas couldn't tell if it was because he had been so angry and it was the rush of that emotion or if it was just because seeing her hurt, hurt him too. It was then that he noticed the vine that crawled in towards them, his brows raised a bit but he remained where he was and just watched what they did.
A circle around us? Is it her? His eyes looked at her for a moment, it was her, there was no way it was anyone else. Did she even know what she was doing? Magic? Involuntary plant magic? Even being the biggest mess she could be the princess still created something so beautiful with out even trying. She was fascinating. He felt her body soften more under his arms holding her and he couldn't help but chuckle as she apologized for his suit. His hand paused above the base of her neck and his finger curled into her hair softly. "I don't care about the suit. Clothes can be cleaned or replaced." He said, with a shrug of his shoulders, " Silas looked down at her as she lifted her face finally. She looked like a puffy tomato, but she was still as beautiful as when he'd first seen her with twigs all caught in her hair and dirt getting on her feet from walking with no shoes on.
He rubbed the back of his neck when she expressed how grateful she was and his cheeks flushed. "It was nothing. I just wanted to make sure you were okay." The prince said avoiding her eyes for a moment. His arms loosened around her as she rubbed the dampness from her face and he smiled a bit at her, even at her worst she was prettier than anything he'd even seen. As she complained about her heels he laughed and nodded, "You know what, I don't care too much for my shoes tonight either." Silas took his shoes off, granted a bit more carefully than she had but the pushed them to the side as well.
Grinning back at the princess he took note of the flowers that popped up at her feet and quickly gave her hand a soft squeeze letting her know he didn't mind. "Lead the way from battle brave princess." With that that two left he followed the pretty princess and her little trail of flowers and toward large hedges, a maze? He was always bad at finding his way out of these things. But he'd get lost with Talulla any day.
Inside the ballroom the Silas's mother and father chatted between each other. Not about the princess, but their son. He'd never shown such anger, not over anyone but his siblings. He was the only one allowed to tease them and it seemed that his protective temper had completely snapped. They paused as the girl's lady's maid entered and spoke with the king. They guests were being moved for tea and desserts. So something had happened. Where had their son and the young princess gone? Hearing the kings voice they both turned. "Of course, we don't mind" The king said offering a small smile. though Silas's mother knew where the king was headed, "If you find them, do let us know how the young princess is. I do hope she is okay, things like this can be hard and overwhelming. Silas has had to comfort his siblings during events before." She said as herself and her husband stood up bowing/curtsying to the king and joining the rest of the guests.
As sweet as the queen was she was like King Maynard, very straight to the point, more so when it came to her children like a mother bear, perhaps that was where Silas got it from. Once the king had left they started to mingle with the people. They knew what it was like to have irritated guests so the two took it upon themselves to keep everyone calm and to bide the time while the king found the children. This was nothing new to them, the prince was always making people angry, he didn't bit his tongue often and could really care less what most people thought about him and how he acted. So, the two royals constantly played clean up for his rude behavior.

Orson
Orson stared down at Anaris, trapped in another moment with her once more. Her skin was warm beneath his fingers, and sent sparks of electricity up his arms and into his shoulders, his heart accelerating slightly. He gave a shy smile, turning his eyes away as he drew his hand back, straightening in slightly irritation at Kaela’s dismissive hum and further dampening statement. His eyebrows knit together slightly as he gave a slight wave of his hand and a snort of contempt.
”Please, miss. Does one every scold a sunflower for bending towards the sun? Or an oak for stretching up higher? Nature, even in its beauty is competitive, and I would gladly lose to her any day,” He retorted, eyes narrowing faintly in warning, tone sharp and leaving no room for argument. Despite his slightly diminutive stature, and the lesser ranking of his kingdom, it was easy to see that Orson would have no trouble stepping up to rule in the much larger kingdom, when needed.
But, then again, Orson isn’t one to be trifled with.
As Anaris tensed up beside him, Orson’s gaze shifted over to her with slight concern trickling in through the irritation. His hand came to cover hers where it was resting on his arm, giving a light squeeze of reassurance as he turned an openly frustrated gaze back to Arrei, lifting an eyebrow in mocking expectation. Nothing could have really prepared him for her statement, honestly.
His eyes fell down for a moment as he swallowed nervously, glancing away, the irritation fading in sudden embarrassment and uncertainty. She had caught him off guard with her blunt, forward statement. He had always known his kingdom was lesser as he grew up, and that as the youngest he was the least of all out there, but having his disparity from his bride to be so openly commentated on threw him for a bit of a loop, and he struggled to come up with a response, politeness damned now that she had crossed that line.
But, as it would seem, Anaris beat him to it.
His eyebrows shot up in surprise as his gaze flitted to her face, watching in a mixture of amusement and amazement as Anaris promptly dropped the two flat on their butts, metaphorically speaking of course. Though, he had no doubt she could do so physically, if she so pleased. He stared with warmth at her as she defended him so readily and swiftly, barely containing an impolite snicker as the two turned on their heels and sped off, tails between their legs.
”My princess, that was…well, thank you,” He finally managed, shaking his head in disagreement with her statements, opening his palm to press against hers as she squeezed his, giving her a soft smile. ”If you spar as fiercely as you speak, I might have reason to be nervous for our practice later,” he teased, eyes warm and glowing with adoration for this girl— no, woman.
He gave a light giggle, inclining his head towards her as he tugged her closer, subconsciously, smiling at her with enough gusto that his dimples had appeared once more, tension easing quickly from his broad shoulders. How lucky am I?
Talulla
Talulla was, well, a mess. From the anxieties and weight of the ball to the nervousness of being in front of a crowd to bursting into tears and having to be escorted outside, she was nothing short of a conversation starter. And yet, out here in the garden, she seemed completely different than she had even moments before on the patio. Her hand wrapped securely around Silas’s own, squeezing back with a faint smile at his statement and shaking her head with a soft, faint whisper of a giggle.
”I would hardly consider myself brave, especially with such intimidating and daring company,” She offered back to him shyly, a nervous smile flickering at her lips as she turned her head to the side, away from him. She didn’t release his hand, however, small blue wildflowers popping up in their wake as she began to guide him through the maze. She gradually moved closer to him, lightly swinging their hands back and forth, her own close enough to his side to occasionally graze his coat hem. She gave to indication that she had noticed or if the act was conscious, gazing quietly as they walked. She was silent now, sniffling only every now and again and occasionally swiping at her runny nose, her puffiness going down considerably. She already looked much better out here than she had on the patio.
King Maynard returned to the crowd, graciously waving them all into the main parlor for desserts and refreshments. He managed to field anyway questions with a blanket announcement of, ”The princess and the prince had urgent wedding details to attend to outside the party, and look forward to welcoming you back in a week. We ask that for now you enjoy some delicious desserts on behalf of the staff and our live band, and feel free to mingle amongst yourselves and guests.” And so, like that, everything seemed to smooth out once more.
Talulla led Silas further and further into the maze. Her expression was distant, eyes a million miles away as she quietly hummed under her breath, following an invisible map in her mind. She knew the entire maze inside and out, and had no trouble guiding Silas along, flowers sprouting up around them and stretching towards them in greeting. The night deepened around them, the stars twinkling brighter as the hedges’ shadows seemed to darken for only a moment before lightening up. She quickened her pace slightly, eyes focused forward now on the path ahead. They made two sharp lefts and a quick right, and then Talulla abruptly came to a halt as they entered a side pavilion of the maze. She didn’t release Silas, steadying him instead with an apologetic grimace. She cleared her throat awkwardly, but held tightly to his hand, nervously tucking her hair behind her ears with her free one.
”This is probably my favorite spot to be,” She offered, gesturing in front of them. A low fountain bubbled, the water crystalline and pure. A few feet away from the fountain was a gigantic oak tree, sturdy and large, with a stone bench beneath one side and a rope swing on the other. Behind it, a few yards further, was a small tombstone. ”This is my mother’s…pavilion. She used to bring me here to read every afternoon, and my father would surprise us with picnics. She always loved the fountain and the shade of the oak,” She smiled here, eyes distant as she recalled the memory. She finally released his hand, moving forward to place her palm against the bark of the tree, a tired sigh emitting from her slumped shoulders, muscled back to Silas once more.
”She would always scold me for climbing too high, or not listening intently to my lessons or story. She was funny that way. She said at night, she could see all the stars from here, and hear far across our kingdom to the distant corners where the music was loud and people chattered and danced.” Her voice softened, dropping off at the end as she bent her head, leaning her forehead against the bark for a long moment as silence enveloped them.
After a long, quiet moment, the faint sounds of music could be heard drifting down from the open windows and balconies of the kingdom. Talulla listened as the band began to play a familiar tune, the wind brushing lightly across her cheeks. She straightened, patting the bark, t urning back to Silas now, shyly glancing away awkwardly.
”Uhm, I believe I still owe you a proper dance, if you’ll have me,” She offered, head tilting slightly as she gave a gentle curtsey, eyes on him once more. The sadness was gone once more, the usual composure in its wake as Talulla gave a shy smile. The puffiness had faded considerably, with the red from new heat flushing her now instead of the tears. She hesitated, freezing to the spot, wondering if this would finally be enough to drive Silas away for good. He could see exactly how pathetic and foolish, weird and ill-mannered, improper and disgraceful and a mess she truly was.
But, strangely, since the first talk of the wedding, in this moment at probably her most vulnerable yet, she almost hoped Silas would… stay.

His words prior to the intense lashing she'd given the two girls had made her all the more upset. He was so sweet and even in the face of such horrible women he remained to calm and polite. Still doting on her like that was all that mattered. As his hand rested against her own she tighted her grip only slightly as if even then she was holding back from saying more. They'd been lucky she had promise her mother she'd behave.
Really she had only spared one glance his way as she tore into the women, she'd been to focused on telling them off to pay any mind to his reaction to it. But she heard the small snicker as the left. So he didn't mind. That was good, she was a fiery little thing and honestly she didn't stand for things like that. He was going to rule beside her and she would have no disrespect aimed at him ever. Honestly his reaction time was going to need to improve or she was going to beat him every time to that. As the two left her body visibly relaxed, and the hand that remained on Orson loosed slightly.
Finally her eyes turned toward him noticing the surprised look on her face and the harshness that had clouded her features vanished instantly. Color flooded to her cheeks when she realized that she'd just made a scene between the four of them. Just as she'd started to open her mouth to apologize for the outburst he thanked her. Confusion then rushed over her face, he wasn't going to scold her for being unlady like or taking the change away from him to put them in their place? Gods could he be any better?
Anaris laughed at his teasing, her hand also squeezing his gently. "Well my prince, it would seem you should be nervous then." His smile was infectious and she couldn't stop the smile that formed on her face. How did he take her from ready to rip her dress fighting someone to laughing and joking as if it had never happened so quickly? The princess took no mind to how close they were, in fact she welcomed it. He was warm and made her feel safe, like she was able to be her. Hell he hadn't said anything about her getting upset, in fact he'd stood beside her and supported the outburst. Found it amusing even. "Are you hungry?" She asked suddenly as she snapped from her thoughts. Anaris tilted her head a bit, there was food in the other room which was open and being watched by the servants. "There are all kinds of cakes and such in the next room."
»Silas Payne
Hearing her call him intimidating brought a big grin to his face, yeah right him tall and lanky, super intimidating. Maybe if he put his mad face on, but other than that he was anything but. "My dear princess your cat is far more intimidating that I could ever be." As the two made their way through the maze his eyes wandered but only for a minute. Of course the wild flowers were a big thing, they hadn't been there before and he took notice for sure. The silence between them wasn't a weird silence, in fact it was surprisingly comfortable like they didn't even need to talk really. Again as someone who missed very little he felt her hand brushing against his clothing as they walked still holding hands, his own hand brushing against the soft tulle of the skirt.
Gently his eyes made their way up from her fingers interlaced with his up her arms that were sun kissed like her cheeks. Once his eyes had found her face he felt a rush of warm to his cheeks and over his ears. She was beautiful. And he thought the sunlight had made her hair glow, here under the light of the stars and moons she was breath taking. Unable to do much more than just stare at her and follow blindly he did just that. So distance, yet so present she captivated him and pull him in any direction she went. Silas was glad to follow.
Lost in his thoughts he almost bumped into the slightly shorter princess, stopping almost directly behind her. Silas was close enough the smell the faint scent of lavender on her hair, calming him to his core letting his eyes close for a moment her just enjoyed her presence. When he opened his eyes and saw her looking at him and his face flushed instantly, luckily the moonlight had cast a little bit of a shadow on him. He returned the small smile, his just as shy and awkward as her's was and said nothing but instead followed where she gestured. Their fingers still holding to each other like this had been something the two had done for years. It felt oddly right. Safe even. He listened as she explained were they were. A very important place to her, he felt honored to have been lead there by the princess herself. As she let go of his hand and moved to the tree her touch lingered, soft and warm but gone very quickly. "Its beautiful." He said looking more at her than the pavilion.
There was so much more to her than he would have ever guessed. This sweet airhead of a girl was far more than that. She was kind, loved by her servants, a nervous wreck, a wild child, an intellectual, and a hurt soul. All wrapped up into on sun kissed package. Hearing her speak of her mother made him smile just a little, while it made him sad for her and the loss she'd had, he could tell Talulla cared deeply for her mother, and that was never something to be sad about. As the girl turned he offered a warm smile, not one of pity or anything like that, just a soft happy smile. Her offer made him chuckle a bit and he bowed offering his hand to her. "I'd be honored to share a proper dance with you. Here." He said breathing the last word, Silas much preferred sharing the dance with her here in a place that was so clearly special to the delicate angel before him. He smiled looking at her from where he bowed.
Once he had her hand in his he straightened up before pulling her close to him stepping forward with ease. "And princess." He cleared his throat for a moment, "I'd be a fool if I didn't say I'd always be honored to have you. " Silas looked down at her for a moment, perfection.
Absolute perfection.

Orson
Orson took note of the apologetic glance followed by confusion in her face when she finally turned to him, and he did his best to hide his own confusion. She looked almost as if she expected him to scold her, when she’d been nothing short of amazing. Why would he scold her for standing up to those snobbish bores of cousins that didn’t hold any real power or threat? Is this how she’s normally treated? Stifled and scolded all the time? Well, that’s going to change immediately.
Orson, instead found genuine surprise at her response, blinking in shock as his eyebrows shot up, eyes widening and another wave of pink flushing across him at her statement. She’s so…brave. He gave a shy giggle, turning his head slightly away out of shock, swallowing hard to regain his composure. Ok, so he was definitely nervous, but probably not about the actual sparring.
He turned back to her as she spoke, tilting his head slightly, waiting expectantly for her to continue. At her statement, a spark of excitement flitted across his features. Hungry? Orson was always hungry. What a silly question to ask a growing boy. He nodded eagerly to her statement, straightening slightly and adjusting their hold on each other to something a bit more proper as he began to guide her across the hall towards the room. He was back to his stately, princely self, head high and regal stride back. He dipped his head politely at familiar dignitaries, ignoring the jealous gaze of many other princesses. All that mattered to him was his lovely bride to be latched safely onto his arm.
”You know, Princess, you’ve definitely made quite the impression,” He admitted once they were safely out of earshot of the party, eyes glittering warmly at her in the dimmer lighting of the room.
Talulla
Although she wasn’t one to be swayed so easily, Talulla found herself falling for Silas rather quickly, much to her surprise and chagrin. As they had walked, she had mulled over their time together and how nice his hand felt around hers. She had run through all their interactions and thought of how gentle and kind he could be when he wanted, and how sometimes he caught her off guard with a well timed joke or abrupt moment of honesty. And, the way he reacted to her mother’s pavilion only pushed her further in his favor. ”It’s beautiful.” He understood her, and he understood enough of what this pavilion meant to see her.
It had her completely and utterly terrified to find herself falling so quickly for someone. Never once had she even entertained the thought that there might be someone out there that understood her. And yet, here was this… this man that had just fallen into her lap and was so intelligent and kind and patient already. She was so undeserving of him or his gentleness, and she couldn’t even begin to fathom how lucky she must have to be for things to align like this.
Instead, she took a deep breath, giving a shy smile and tucking her hair behind her ears again, quietly dispelling her thoughts. She giggled slightly as he bowed, growing serious when he spoke, her eyes catching his. In the moonlight, he seemed to glow in a new light that left her slightly breathless. He looked more alive than ever, bathed in a gentle, opalescent ray, and she felt her heart thump just a bit harder. She tenderly took his hand, a little shy once more, biting her lip lightly as she felt his fingers curl around hers once more with an ease and familiarity she had already begun to grow to expect. Then, he straightened, pulling her tight to him, and she felt her cheeks blossom cherries as she swallowed, studying him closely now in the moonlight.
She held his gaze as he spoke, her own widening and surprise filling her features as the pink spread gracefully down her neck and overlapped across her nose. Him, honored to have me?? He is far too generous. She stood frozen for a moment, absolutely spell bound before she finally caught her breath, realizing she had been holding it this whole time.
”Then, have me,” She mumbled back, voice nearly a whisper and deathly soft as she ever so gently moved closer. She brought her arm up to rest on his, and then they were off, her following his lead as they danced much closer than was proper for a ball. But, out here, it didn’t matter if they were proper or not, because there was no one to watch, except them. And so, Talulla relaxed, allowing herself to be swept off her feet to the music by the tall man before her.
She had been right, earlier, in her assumptions that the shoes had been part of what hindered her. For, out here on the gentle grass in the forgiving glow of the moon, she was as graceful as a ballerina— for the most part. She spun around with him with ease, feet light and soft against the earth beneath as he spun them in time. She twirled when he spun her, skirt fanning radiantly around her before she tugged closer still, closing the space between them quickly. She was silent, her breathing falling into rhythm with his as they moved to the push and pull of the music. She studied him with a starstruck, wondering gaze, seeing him fully for the first time. She openly stared at the way his nose sloped down to his lips, full and curved slightly upwards, roaming down the planes of his cheeks and jaws. She watched as the small strands of loose hair of his fluttered around his ears, the faint stubble peeking out along his jawline. She noted his shapely ears, traveling down his neck to his exposed clavicles before quickly pulling her eyes away; she was, still, modest as ever.
She finally found his eyes, her own wide, curiosity sparking in them. Her cheeks were a brilliant shade of tomato red, blinking and releasing him only to be spun before her gaze returned to his almost hungrily. She hardly blinked, entranced by his patient gaze, her own warm amber eyes deep and hard to read as she tilted her head forward slightly, inhaling his rich scent. They slowed as the music changed songs, finding a slower rhythm as she moved somehow closer, watching him curiously, eyes flickering to his lips. For a moment, she wondered what it would be like to kiss him, and her heart suddenly stuttered, the thought completely catching her off guard. Oh, it's not as if you don't want to, foolish girl. Her cheeks flushed anew with fresh heat as she stumbled lightly into him, losing her grace for just a moment as she blinked, steadying herself against him. Her fingers curled slightly around his silken fabric once more as she froze, pulling them to a halt, leaning up ever so slightly, a slightly confused expression coloring her features as she became still, holding his eyes in a silent staring contest. You're going to have to kiss him at the wedding, when you're married after all. It's not strange to wonder.
”Silas,” She finally breathed, close enough that he could feel her breath against his skin. She swallowed hard, tentatively reaching a hand up to brush over his lips, unable to control her movements, still enchanted with the spell he seemed to have cast over her. Nearby, the small brush erupted into fragrant flowers as small spurts of flowers burst wildly from the ground around them, their floral scent filling the breeze as she paid no mind, still staring intensely at him, fingers grazing his lips and chin, trembling slightly as she did, uncertain of herself and self control for the first time in a very long time. Never before had Talulla ever felt so focused yet so completely distracted.

(Oh my god I thought I typed my reply for Ana LOL I swear I started typing hers XD) (And oooof that is a lot going on love o: ) (We just found out today for sure it is my aunts sitter cause my dad saw them in her CAR LIKE NOOOO) (ME SEEEEE DRESS) (and they are the polar opposite but also exactly the same XD) (WE LOVE MOMENTS <3) [ you're literally so fine angel hehe xD I'm going to do Orson later lmaoooo yeah it is :/ sorry I just vanished instead of giving you a heads up : ( that's so STRESSFUL OH MY GOD nooo not the car AHHHH you will see when Silas does c; YES this moment is so tender hehe I got a little carried away but I've been watching a lot of romance movies, ARE WE SURPRISED? ](IIM SCREAMING LITERALLY LIKE EEEEEEEEEEE <3<3 Excuse my while I turn into a small school girl xD) (And no worries babes! I under life can be crazy I’ve actually got SO much going on my aunts sitter one day just left this week and we fired her on the spot and she was verbally attacking my dads girlfriend it was this whole mess but she literally didn’t tell anyone she was leaving and left my aunt unattended luckily I was in my house that’s on the same property and my dad came home after about three minutes of her being alone but abandoning your patient is still that even if it’s for 30 seconds liiiike?? LOL but it’s all good) (DAMN lol I’m excited xD I’m like dying for their weddings and all the things dude)
