“I think we’re pretty much done here!” Wingpaw examined the nest and chuckled. “I’ll be sure to make sure the older Warriors know how quickly you’ve started helping with clan duties.”
“We’ll vouch for you too.” Tricklefrost purred her approval to Pondpaw’s willingness to help.

Pondpaw smiled. It was nice knowing that some cats appreciated her in Skyclan. She mewed a quite goodbye, careful not to wake the kits up, and slipped out of the den.
“We should probably get some rest now. Mudwasp want’s me up for training at dawn tomorrow. I bet your mentors would say the same for you.” Pondpaw suggested.

Springpaw came crashing into the nursery a moment later with a mouthful of the best feathers she could find. She dropped them at Warblerpaw's paws with a large grin. "Here ya go! Only the softest feathers for the newest kits."
Briarpatch's eyes shone as she watched Flarestorm with their daughter, a steady purr rumbling from the new queen. She looked up at Spiderbite as the medicine cat placed his paw back on her stomach, "She's healthy?" she asked, wincing as another contraction started.
The tiny ginger kit squeaked as Flarestorm licked at her fur, kicking her legs out as she squirmed.

Spiderbite glanced at the tiny kit when Briarpatch asked her question. He felt the tiny heartbeat when he was licking the kit warm, but it was too small for his liking. "She's moving and making noise. She's fine." He focused back at Briarpatch. "Stay focused. You're not done yet."

“Wow. That’s a lot of feathers.” Pondpaw said. “Do you just lay it down on the moss? Or is there a special way you place it?” She wondered.

“She’s the most perfect thing in the world.” Flarestorm assured gently, the fear in his voice pushed down to try and be composed for Briarpatch’s sake. “You’re doing so well, Briarpatch.”

Briarpatch braced herself as another large contraction took over, and with a huff a second kit was born. A tom this time, lighter ginger. On further expectation though, the little kit was missing his entire left front leg, the shoulder simply ending in a short stump. Briarpatch was too concerned with catching her breath to notice anything off about their first son.

Springpaw picked up a feather, eager to show Pondpaw what to do. She padded over to the new nest and gently wove the feather into the moss near the middle. "The feathers keep the kits warm and they're softer in the moss. Queens tend to like them near the middle where the kits lay. Just weave them through the moss so they stay in place and you're good to go!"

Flarestorm looked over at the next kit, only to widen his eyes in confusion before it melded into bewildered shock. He knew that Briarpatch hadn’t seen the next kit, she hadn’t yet seen that this kit only had three legs. How… how did a cat only have three legs?! He was stunned into silence. It didn’t take away the love he instantly felt, but he couldn’t tell if the kit was alive.

Spiderbite was there for the kit the instant it was born. He nipped the sack and began licking it up, but he hesitated with gritted teeth when he noticed the kit's leg. Underformed. Probably due to all the bird-brained cliff climbing these two have done! Yet, the kit was still alive and the stump didn't appear anything more than just a stump. It would live. That's what mattered. Spiderbite didn't hide the handicap as he passed it to Flarestorm. "Keep them tucked by her belly, Flarestorm, and curl your tail around them! This isn't the nursery, it's too cold for them out on this cliff. So, keep them warm!" He scowled like he was surrounded by bird-brains and went back to Briarpatch, checking her breathing, heartrate and the feel of her stomach.
(There's three, right?)

Pondpaw smiled and nodded a thanks. She picked up a feather, and like Springpaw, gentally slipped the feather into the moss. She looked up. Warblerpaw and Wingpaw were already making progress. She needed to quicken up the pace a little. She grabbed another feather and wove that on in too. Then another, and another. Before long, the center of the nest was as soft as a cat’s fur.
“Is that all?” Pondpaw meowed. “Anything else we have to do for the nest?”

Two toms and two she-kits I believe) Flarestorm nodded quickly, snapping out of his trance and doing all he could to keep the kits warmed up.

Briarpatch frowned as she noticed the odd expression on Flarestorm’s face, her claws dug into the soil as she looked down at the second kit. “What’s wrong? Why do you look like that?” She demanded, breaths coming faster.

Why do you look like that?” She demanded, breaths coming faster. “It’s okay, nothing is… nothing’s wrong, he’s alive.” Flarestorm promised, too afraid of the stress causing damage to her that he didn’t want to startle her with the news that their son was missing a leg. He tried to soothe her.

Spiderbite grit his teeth. "Briarpatch, focus!" He felt her belly, pressing a little harder. "You're kits are alive, but you've still got two more that need birthed, so focus!" He glanced around with ears tilted back. Four kits and an exhausted queen. They didn't have the cats to get everyone back to camp quickly. "We should be doing this in the nursery," he grumbled.

"That's about it, I'd say," said Warblerpaw. He arched low in a long stretch before moving to leave the nursery. "Sorry we didn't get to make you a nest," he meowed to Pondpaw as they padded toward the apprentices' den. "Er, I still kind of feel bad for dropping on you like that, so..."
The mottled tom flicked his tail, looking away with faux annoyance. "You can use mine, but just tonight. I'll take watch with Shadespots or something. You'd better be ready for Mudwasp tomorrow morning!"
With that Warblerpaw padded stiffly off for the camp entrance.

Briarpatch let out a low growl, ears flattening to her head. Fear was encroaching over her, she knew something was wrong. She could feel it deep within her core. “They weren’t supposed to come yet! Do you think I would have left camp if I knew I was this close to kitting? Now tell me what’s wrong with my kit.”

Springpaw blinked, surprised at Warblerpaw’s generosity. She certainly wouldn’t give up her nest to just anyone. Glancing between Wingpaw and Pondpaw she headed for the entrance of the nursery. “Let’s let the queens get some rest. It’s about to get really busy in here.”
Shadespots turned at the sound of paw steps coming up behind her. Her eyes flickered curiously over Warblerpaw, quickly checking behind him to see if any of her kits were following. “Hello,” she greeted quietly. “Are you going somewhere Warblerpaw?”

"Hey, Shadespots," he said, taking a seat opposite of the camp entrance from her. "No, I was actually just going to come join you for a while, if that's okay. We just finished showing Pondpaw how to make a nest, but the apprentice's den is kind of crowded now, so..." Warblerpaw trailed off, curling his fluffy tail around his paws.

Pondpaw shook her head. “No it’s okay!” She refused. “You can use your nest, I’m used to sleeping on the ground.” But the tom had already started towards the entrance of camp. She sighed and followed Wingpaw and Springpaw to the apprentice’s den. Pondpaw padded over to the nest that she assumed was Warblerpaw’s. She hesitated before stepping aside to the cold, hard ground before lying down and tucking her tail over her nose. She shot a quick glance to the entrance of the den, wondering if Warblerpaw would come back to get some rest. Pondpaw shrugged it off and closed her eyes.

He’s missing a leg.” Flarestorm finally admitted, voice soft but steady as possible as he assured. “But he is alive and moving. He’s still here with us, no matter how many legs he has. And he’s our son, he’s strong, just like you.” He urged softly.

Warblerpaw's ear flicked as he settled down.
Oh, nothing much! I just saw my mother die, have been consorting with one of the most evil cats to live that I just so happen to share blood with, and just spent my day babysitting a random loner that's now my denmate and I attacked earlier. I'm great!
"Eh, you know," he said. "Just worried for Briarpatch and the kits."

Briarpatch looked down at their son, eyes immediately locking onto the small stump where his leg should have been. She let out a sigh, immediately blaming herself for this. She knew she shouldn't have continued to do so much. She closed her eyes taking a deep breath. "Okay, I'm focused now." she murmured. After several moments, another contraction camp and she pushed again. The third ginger kit, a tom, was born.

Shadespots shifted her eyes back to the forest, hoping that they would return soon with healthy kits. She decided to brush past his obvious avoidance, not wanting to push the young tom. "That is scary, but Spiderbite should have it under control. He helped deliver all of my kits, I wasn't in the nursery yet but he may have even helped deliver you. Lavendersky taught him everything she knows, I have full faith in him."

"Oh, if any cat can do it, it's Spiderbite," Warblerpaw agreed. "He'll make sure those kits and Briarpatch survive, even if it's purely out of stubbornness."
He sat quietly while they waited, ears upright to listen to the sounds of the forest. He idly wondered if this is how it would feel when he sat for his vigil, carrying his new name and duty as a warrior. "What was your assessment like?" he meowed suddenly.
