"Newtkit! That's far enough!" Spiderpaw snapped from the medicine den. He lashed his tail seeing the kit trying to weasel his way to the camp entrance. Spiderpaw started over. "How many times to do I have to tell you to stay put? No kits are allowed out of camp. Especially, you!"

Spiderpaw stepped in the way to block Harekit's path. "You'll become an apprentice when you're six moons old just like everyone else. The territory is too dangerous for kits like you. Or do you want to get injured again?"

Spiderpaw flicked his tail. "You could ask the elders for stories or get lessons from the warrior apprentices. There are plenty of places around camp to explore. My siblings certainly found them all. If you want to be an apprentice so badly, then start by learning the basics from others: stalking, battle moves, even the warrior code and proper conduct for patrols and gatherings. There's plenty to learn here in camp before you head off into the territory."

"Gah!" Emberpaw called from the edge of the nursery, eyes wide as she finally caught sight of Spiderpaw and Harekit. She rushed over, breathing out. "Aw, shoot. Sorry, Spiderpaw, I said I'd keep my eye on him, but the other two got me caught up in some games. I promised Lavenderbelly I'd watch them." She looked at Spiderpaw with a sheepish sigh.

Spiderpaw huffed when Emberpaw ran out. "Lavenderbelly trusted you to look after her kits? I would've picked one of the older apprentices." He flicked his tail again and glanced at Harekit. "Just make sure he stays in camp. I don't want to have to patch up his leg again. If he hadn't gotten out of camp the first time, I would've have had to use the rest of our comfrey root."

“Oh, I offered to.” Emberpaw admitted, looking at Spiderpaw with a confident mew. “Besides, you older apprentices were all too busy anyway, most change the nests but don’t stay after.” She teased, looking down at Harekit and mewing.
“Spiderpaw’s right. If you got injured again going out there, he’d have to use herbs that we don’t get an endless supply of. If you want to be a respected Warrior one day, we have to keep ourselves out of harm.” She decided, before chuckling and flicking Harekit’s nose gently with her tail.
“Thanks again, Spiderpaw. Sorry for the trouble.” She mewed.

Spiderpaw flicked his ear and looked away at Emberpaw's comment about the older apprentices. He was the oldest apprentice now. His siblings having been made warriors moons ago. Someday I'll prove to Lavendersky that I'm worthy of a full name. Spiderpaw looked back at Emberpaw when she apologized. "Just don't let it happen again." Without another word, he stalked back to the medicine den.

"Loud and clear, Spiderpaw!" Emberpaw waved her tail, waiting until the medicine cat pushed into the den before she let loose a quick breath. "Well! Far less of an ear shredding than I thought we'd get from him." She looked down at Harekit and smiled sympathetically. "I know it feels like forever, but I promise it won't be long until you can explore all you want. We just have to make sure you can get there without anymore accidents, yeah?"

Whitesun stopped as the patrol reached the border giving a nod to Ghostscreech and his patrol to continue on to their own territory.
“Thank you, Whitesun.” Ghostscreech said as he padded over the border and back on ThunderClan territory. He dipped his head to the other deputy before turning and leading Peachdapple and Russetfox back to their camp.

"Well. That was certainly something." Flarestorm gave a humored and intrigued meow as he padded up next to the deputy, waiting for the Thunderclan cats to be far away enough. "do you think Thunderclan's going to stand by their part of the deal? As cool as being witness to a brand new alliance, I doubt anyone's trusting anyone right off the bat." He commented airily.

I don’t want ThunderClan thinking that just because we now have an alliance that we’re going to slack off on our border patrols.” He said.

I don’t want ThunderClan thinking that just because we now have an alliance that we’re going to slack off on our border patrols.” He said. "You're the boss." Flarestorm waved his tail leisurely before he moved to follow the deputy's orders. He marked along the border, looking out across Thunderclan's territory, as if waiting for another Thunderclan cat to pop out and spook him. |
