"It's just like something out of a kit tale..." Willownose mewed tersely. Of course the Dark Forest would try to get revenge through Spiritstar's living son - and they succeeded. "What pointless loss. All of it. Why can't the Dark Forest rot in their stupid swamp for good?" she vented. "All we want is to serve SkyClan as honorable warriors, not stomp all over the forest with power over everyone. It's all greed." "I hope Nettlesting is happier wherever he's gone, really." Firefang nodded in agreement. "It wouldn't do us any good for him to sit around camp or force him to fight when he clearly wanted to go. His father must be outside of the Clans." he flicked his tail absentmindedly. "But I don't see that makes much of a difference." “Greed and arrogance breeds obsession. And weakness.” Redspring scoffed, boldly lifting her chin as she decided. “The Dark Forest were defeated then, we’ll defeat them again, just like our parents did.” She assured, remembering her mother and father’s bravery all those moons ago. “We’re not kits and apprentices under Robinstar’s claws anymore. And if they want a fight, they’ll get a fight. That, I swear my life on.” “I guess we should have noticed when he willingly passed Twigpaw’s mentorship on. He had no regret in his voice. I don’t think he ever wanted to be a mentor, let alone continue being a Warrior.” Buzzardfall shook her head. “And cats like that, they can’t handle a life like ours. He must have known that when Spiritstar and Silvercloud were brought back dead…”

"You're right. They failed once. The fact that they've spent moons brooding in the shadows over the same goal changes nothing. We'll just stop them again." Willownose agreed with a snort. "We owe it to our parents, to SkyClan, and to those who didn't survive their grab for power." She spotted a robin chirping on a tree branch above. "Speaking of robins..."
Firefang hummed in consideration. "To be fair, no cat should have to witness their leader and senior warrior being brought back dead. But I've never seen a cat turn down being a mentor before." he wondered. "That was probably a sign we should've noticed."

All I see is our next prey.” Redspring smirked up at the tree, before she flicked an ear. “Let’s do a flushing maneuver. I’ll climb the tree over there, you climb the robin’s tree, once it flies over to my tree, I’ll snag it.” She decided quickly. “Apparently he hadn’t been doing all that well for Twigpaw from the start. Spiritstar put too much faith in him and he failed Twigpaw. No wonder Twigpaw responded so angrily.” Buzzardfall shook her head sadly before she admitted. “Mentoring Firescorch was a privilege, and we were very different but I wouldn’t have asked for a better apprentice, ya know?”

"Right! Let's bring this juicy prey back to camp for someone. It'll only help." Willownose moved to scale the base of the robin's tree, finding it as natural as ever. She craned her head to see how far along Redspring was in the other tree. For a brief moment, she felt herself forgetting their troubles in camp. It was nice to hunt with her, just as they usually did.
Firefang shook his head in dismay. "Twigpaw deserves a mentor that can do him right. I won't deny that, and I'd never let Fallstone down like that." he said. "I'm happy that you had a great experience with Firescorch. Has he been well?"

Redspring slipped silently up the tree, moons of training making her climbing second nature. She eyed Willownose, winking to her once she was in position. With a quiet wave of her tail, she signaled for her closest friend to start the team hunt. “He’s been…” Buzzardfall hesitated, eyes flashing with conflict as she admitted. “I think he’s been okay. He’s not one to share his feelings, but I could tell that Frostyfoot’s banishment affected him more than one might think. Knowing his parents were once breaking the Code, maybe it worried him.” She shook her head. “Cometblaze has proved himself a Skyclan Warrior now. And Firescorch earned his name, I know first paw he has. I just never want him feeling like how Echowing felt, or… responding the way she did.” She grimaced.

Willownose narrowed her eyes in focus once she had the signal and slipped onto the branch. Once she had balance on the branch, she crept forward and began to make the branch rise and fall slightly with her movement. The robin tilted its head around in acknowledgement and began to fly toward Redspring's tree.
"I'm sorry to hear that." Firefang murmured. The tom rested his tail on Buzzardfall's back in comfort. "You're very keen to notice his feelings. He doesn't seem like a cat who would share them openly. I think we've all been affected by what's happened..." he sighed. "You're right. Anything we can do to help makes a difference."

She managed to grasp it in her jaws as she landed on the branch, her claws digging in. With one paw, she held down the bird and killed it quickly. Thanking Starclan for the catch, she called down. “There’s one. Easy as can be. Though, we’ve done this countless times.” She smirked. Buzzardfall felt her heart flutter at Firefang’s assurances, warmed by the tom’s kind words. She chuckled. “I know that I can trust you. We did train our apprentices together most of the time. You know, I really liked being a mentor with you. Seeing you train Fallstone was impressive. I wanted to be as good at it as you were.” She blinked, a bit shy for a moment.
