โฒโโผโโฒ THE HUNGER GAMES โฒโโผโโฒ
" The various districts of Panem would offer up in tribute... One young man and woman. To fight to the death. And it peg you to honor, courage and sacrifice. The lone victor... Bathed in riches... Will serve as our reminder of our generosity... and our forgiveness. This is how we remember our past. This is how we safe guard our future. "

For sixteen years, Panem has upheld the tradition of sending 24 young tributes between the ages of twelve and eighteen to fight in an arena. The deaths of the tributes serve as a reminder of the unnecessary bloodshed caused by revolution and rebellion. The tributes are selected randomly from their districts (of which there are twelve). Once chosen, the tributes are given the distinct honor of coming to the Capitol and displaying their talents for all to see. Each year the Hunger Games are different both in the tributes selected and the arena they are played in. This year, the tributes will be surprised to find themselves in a treacherous bog marked by murky waters, menacing trees, and lurking creatures. As usual, they must rely upon their wit and skill to survive. Ultimately only one can win. Who shall be granted the distinct honor of being named the Victor of the Sixteenth Annual Hunger Games?

- Please follow the forum rules. For this roleplay in particular, this means keeping violence to no worse than PG-13. We will inevitably deal with sensitive subject matter, so it is important not to glorify bloodshed or death.
- This is a semi-advanced roleplay. I'm not too concerned with word count, however I and others who are joining will likely post 3-5 paragraphs per response (starters will be longer). If you are only comfortable writing short responses, you might have trouble keeping up. That being said, I don't expect every response to be super polished. Typos and mistakes are to be expected.
- LGBTQ+ characters (and writers) are totally welcome here. Please be respectful of people of all shapes, colors, sizes, creeds, etc. Also keep in mind that characters do not necessarily reflect their writer's own beliefs.
- Check before joining. I often have confusion in roleplays with people trying to claim slots that have already been taken. This can be avoided if people simply check the front page before posting character forms.
- Try to keep genders/ages balanced. I know certain people prefer to write one gender in particular, and that's fine, but try not to claim two girls if they are the only female slots left, for example (same goes for the reverse). Also if there are already ten people who are age 18, maybe consider making a younger character. These rules are just in the interest of keeping the characters diverse.
- Activity is important, however. I am aware of the fact that most of the people on this site are actually adults. Work, college, high school, family, etc can all get in the way of people getting online. I totally understand that. But please don't join with no intention of ever participating. This simply takes a spot away from someone who might want it more.

There are a few things that make this roleplay a bit unusual. These two ideas are an attempt to make things run smoothly and also to make them more fun. Before you join, it's important to keep these things in mind so that you know what's coming.
- Deaths 1-12 Each person who joins will be asked to make two tributes. One of these characters will be among the first twelve to die. The other will place in the top twelve. The first twelve deaths can occur in any order, given the beginning of the Hunger Games is rather chaotic. You are free to have your character step on a cannon, or they can survive for a solid chunk of time. It is up to you how much you want to roleplay this character. They can be very developed and we can get their POV, or they can simply be a side character. Just know that you will have to give them a death eventually. The second character is more complicated, but I'll get to that with the next bullet point.
- Deaths 13-23 Part of what makes the Hunger Games so fun to read/watch is that they are so suspenseful. I thought it would be fun to introduce and element of that to this rp. For that reason, the order of the top twelve tributes will be decided by a random number generator. When you join, be sure to tell me which of your two tributes you would like to make the top twelve. Their name will be entered into a pool and then put in random order. Then I will message each person where their character will place in the top twelve. Say, for example, your character is meant to come in sixth. It will then be up to you to give that character a death scene after the nineteeth death happens (thus allowing your character to come in sixth place). Again, how they die is up to you. What makes it suspenseful is that everyone will only know where their own character ranks in the top twelve, and all of the other deaths will come as a surprise.

As stated in the introduction, the arena for this version of the Hunger Games is a swamp/marshland. Think Okefenokee or the Everglades, but ten times worse. There will be little dry ground, meaning the tributes will be forced into close proximity. The majority of the arena is covered either in murky water or in mudpits/tall grasses that are incredibly difficult to navigate. A number of tributes will likely die before reaching dry land. There are three main dry areas. One is the "mainland" which is notable for having the only standing building: the Lodge. The second is a forested, muddy area where the tributes from the outlying districts are forced to congregate. The third is to the south of the Cornucopia, a heavily forested land that is too thickly covered to camp it.
The Lodge is the only building in the arena other than the cornucopia. It is a large building with many rooms, and the open central area is what inspired the name. But don't be fooled, this is no comfortable hotel with amenities. In fact, as the careers will discover, it is equally dangerous to the outside. Parts of the building have been swallowed by the swamp, leading to flooding in one wing. None of the rooms have furniture, and much of the roof is caved in.
Outlier Island is heavily forested, however the belly of the forest is on higher, drier ground. The tributes can use the trees as shelter, though some might be even more industrious in their use of abandoned boats and overgrown plants.
Mutated Animals:
- Alligators: careful of the water. These alligators are bloodthirsty, and they grow up to 20 feet long.
- Leeches: unlucky Tributes might find themselves covered in these blood-sucking creatures. Their latching mouths are so strong that some are impossible to remove.
- Tracker jackers: those familiar with the books/movies will know of these wasp-like insects whose sting is powerful enough to cause hallucinations and even kill.
- Vultures: these birds are as large as humans, and they are incredibly violent.
- Spiders: some are as big as cats.
Other Threats:- quicksand, poison mushrooms, poison gas, contaminated water, booby-trapped buildings

โ ALLIANCES and SUBPLOTS โณ Because we are jumping into the roleplay at the start of the games, we will be skipping the initial training and strategising. For that reason, I have constructed two main alliances: the Careers and the Outliers. I considered assigning tributes to the specific alliances in the interest of ensuring they are balanced, however I think it will be best for people to figure out where their own character fits best. Just be sure to consider what would be best for the plot and what would be most realistic.
The Careers: These tributes are the favorites to win every year. Their alliance is generally composed of people who have been training all their lives to play in the games, and often they volunteer to participate. They often come from the districts closest to the Capitol (namely 1-4). This makes them incredibly dangerous, and they are generally capable of drawing support from sponsors. This year, the Careers lay claim to the Lodge on the mainland as a home base. Members: Rem Larime (District 2 female), Charon Fournier (District 1 female), Casper Rhineheart (District 4 male),
The Outliers: In contrast with the Careers, the Outliers are mostly tributes from the outer districts. They come from poorer, less privileged backgrounds and usually have more practical survival skills. This year, they have decided to band together in order to have a better chance of beating the Careers. Instead of making for the mainland, they have gathered in the northeastern strip of land which has no buildings. Members: Kaus Reynolds (District 9 male), Blaise Barr (District 2 male). Simic Ford (district 8 male),
The Stragglers: Pretty self-explanatory. Those belonging to this group have not ended up in either alliance either because they choose to work alone or because they were unable to fit in. They usually split up into groups of 1-3. Members: Ashley Mavis, Solaris Xiao, Styx Dierdre, Sage Stolz, Everest Stolz,
Smaller Alliances: (will be updated as they form)- Ashley Mavis and Solaris Xiao are in an alliance
- Sage Stolz and Everest Stolz are siblings and work together
Secret Alliances: (alliances between tributes from opposing gangs) Subplots: - The Careers are feeling confident because they managed to secure the only large structure in the arena. What they don't know is that the Lodge is riddled with traps and creatures. As they attempt to pick off the stragglers, they might just find that their home base is less than homely.
- The Outliers are forced to survive in the elements, which means creating survival structures from the available resources. What they have yet to realize is that a few significant advantages are hidden just under their noses. If they are able to put their heads together, they might just be able to take control of the game.

I'm interested in joining, but it's been a long time since I've read this series. I wasn't familiar with the lore to begin with, so I'm certainly behind when it comes to knowing how the whole Hunger Games universe works. Will there be any problems that skimming the Hunger Games wiki won't fix?
