Deerspirit | in camp | alone Deerspirit didn’t expect this outcome. She couldn’t’ve expected that she would be seeing an old friend in front of her, she hardly comprehended the tragedy of the snake bites in the first place. Deerspirit liked to think that she was a strong cat, that she handled grief well, but Dapplefaces was so sudden... Swallowing her pain the she cat walked over to soulless body and gave it few remorseful licks before walking back to give space for those who need it. You were good cat. She thought. I’m glad you get to rest. Your daughter well grow into something great. She looked up at the sun creeping towards the horizon, the sky and she smiled, glad once again that the clan wasn’t alone in this world. Daycreek | in camp | with Briarleap, little blu ♥Daycreek was shocked. He knew something was up in camp, Tornheart proved that, but this? His own apprentice could barely walk and a warrior was dead! Not any warrior Dappleface. Out of any cat in the clan she deserved to retire the most. She deserved to watch her kit grow. While the warrior comforted his mate he stood strong he quietly cursed himself for not being there to somehow stop this tragedy. He knew it was wrong to think that way but he didn’t have the energy to stop himself. Foxtongue | in camp | alone Foxtongue was trying desperately not to sob. She didn’t have the right to sob. Dappleface was practically a stranger to the calico. Sure she was a friendly face when Badger died and never god impatient with her no matter how horrid she was acting, but that was seasons ago! They’ve barely talked since then! Why did she feel the inherent need to make this about her?? Her heart felt like it would burst out of her chest. This all was to, much. The kits, the embarrassing herself on the patrol, the dead body a fox tail ahead of her. She wanted to run but she knew she couldn’t leave camp, that wouldn’t be fair Dapple. She just stood there crying trying desperately to hide herself.

Rainstar -- open, mentions Lionfang and the elders // outside leader's den
Rainstar was exhausted, and rightly so. She felt more tired than usual and she's not sure if it's because of the lack of sleep, or the depression from losing a beloved clanmate, or a combination of both. The blue molly had been awake since right before the sun had come up and had stayed in her den until only emerging in order to look for Lionfang. She'd asked him to call out a hunting and border patrol, with emphasis on the border patrol going north and west of the territory, where the snake had gone, to look for any signs of it still in the territory. Turns out it'd laid a nest near Four Trees and that's what brought the snake so close to the training area.
Her heart still felt heavy after the loss of Dappleface, the activity around camp having been low as well. Rainstar was trying to brainstorm ideas of what the clan could do that would bring them all together. She'll have to find Lionfang to see if he has any ideas, or perhaps visit the elders and brainstorm with them. Either way, the leader sat in front of her den and stewing in her thoughts as she seemed to always do. She was able to keep somewhat dry from staying under the branches of her den. Rainstars eyes finally glanced at the sky and its dark clouds, rainy season was finally upon them.
Willowshine -- open, mentions Tornheart // camp
Just like most of the clan, Willowshine was still in mourning. She laid in a dry part of the camp, trying to avoid the rain while glancing over to her sister often. Last night she had shared the blue leaders den, curling up around the other in comfort but the two laid awake most of the night until passing out early in the morning. She's unsure if Rainstar got any sleep at all. Her green gaze finally moves away from Rainstar and now glazes over the clan.
Who Willowshine really was looking for was Tornheart, she'd been trying to find a moment to talk to him alone ever since Dappleface's burial, but there never seemed to be an appropriate time. Her heart tightened as she thought about what she wanted to discuss with the tom, butterflies batting around in her stomach. The incident with the snake and Dappleface's death really put things into perspective for the molly and she found that if it'd been Tornheart to die instead, well she's not sure if she could've lived with herself with never having the chance to be open and honest about her feelings.
Her tail twitches impatiently and Willowshine laid her head on her paws as she laid on her stomach, sighing and feeling a bit defeated when she hadn't noticed the tabby tom anywhere. The pitter patter of rain was drowned out by the she-cats own thoughts.
Tallbird -- with Hunting Patrol // headed towards West Lake
While not entirely up for hunting in the downpour of rain, Tallbird was grateful for the excuse to leave camp, so she was happy to have been chosen for the hunting patrol that Lionfang had sent out. The orange and white molly had taken up the rear of the patrol, looking around the forest as they followed the path towards the lake. Tallbird could accurately recall when she, Nightblaze, and Stonepaw had all taken this path to head to Tumbling Rocks. There they'd found Frost and brought her back to camp, she wishes that day had just ended there. The loss of Dappleface weighed heavy on all the hearts of Cedarclan, but she was grateful for her time with the she-cat.
Shaking her head, Tallbird pulled herself from her thoughts and finally paid attention to where she was going. Unfortunately it was a little too late as the warrior had tripped over a small rock lodged deep in the dirt, gasping in surprise and stumbling beneath herself. Tallbird didn't fall, fortunately, however she had stumbled right into the cat ahead of her's backside.
"Oops, sorry!" She said with a sheepish grin then takes a moment to try and shake the water from her damp pelt, knowing it wouldn't do much to keep her dry in this weather.
Ashenlight -- with Border Patrol, mentions Sunmask // headed towards Fire Mountain
Ashenlight yawned as she followed her clanmates that had also been chosen for the border patrol. She was still trying to catch up on the loss of sleep from the last couple of nights. The rain slid off her thick pelt, keeping her drier than most. Ashenlight's heart was heavy, not just from the loss of Dappleface, but for the cats that had taken on the snake. Skypaw was still recovering in the medicine cats den and Ashenlight recognized how hard Sunmask was working. Her thoughts lingered on the flame point for longer than they should've. She felt her pelt grow hot so she quickly forced herself to think about something else, though Sunmasks face was still ingrained in her mind.
Darkfang -- open // camp
The older tom has experienced loss before, the loss of his littermates, his parents, and then the eventual abandonment of his mate. Each loss was different and each was hard to mourn on their own. Dappleface's death was about the same, it affected everyone. He remembered growing up and sharing the nursery then apprentices den with the slightly older she-cat. He enjoyed training with her and going to her for advice about Coldfern. Perhaps had he not been so captivated by the other she-cats beauty, he'd run after Dappleface instead, having been intrigued by tortoiseshell's kind nature. Though, if things had turned out that way then he wouldn't have ended up with Nightblaze or Dovespots, even if they didn't share his blood.
Darkfang had thought about this as he entered the camp again, having gone for a walk almost all morning. He had wanted to visit Dappleface's burial spot when he'd woken up, wanting to sit and mourn over her for a few hours until the rain became too unbearable. Now he tried to find a dry spot in camp to shake the water from his pelt and groom it.
Stonepaw -- open, mentions Skypaw // apprentices den
Stonepaw gave a heavy sigh, shaking his head as he ducks into the apprentices den, having ran across camp to avoid the downpour. He'd just got back from clearing ticks off of the elders pelts, his pelt reeking of mouse bile. He hated the smell of it, as all apprentices do, and hoped he could sneak away to Tumbling Rocks to wash up despite it raining so hard out. However, Rainstar had told the clan that apprentices were absolutely not allowed to leave camp without being in a group and accompanied by their mentors. So, instead, the young tom curls up in his nest and begins to groom his pelt, avoiding his paws as much as possible. Maybe he'll ask Sunmask for some mint leaves or lavender to perfume his pelt when he goes to visit Skypaw later. He'd been visiting the younger apprentice for the last couple of days and he hoped his company was helping them with their recovery.

Birchwind with Ashenlight and rest of patrol // border patrol - Fire Mountains ★★☾★★
The air around camp had been a bit suffocating these last few days. Birchwind understood the grief and felt some of it himself, but was also determined to keep the clan running at full potential. Just because Dappleface had passed didn't mean they could stop functioning. So he'd volunteered to lead a border patrol out towards Fire Mountains.
His deep blue gaze scoured the landscape, searching for any potential danger, though he had to squint due to the downpour. The rain didn't bother him as badly thanks to his thicker fur, not soaking into his skin. Though the mud that had begun to cling to his paws was a different story.
There had been no sign of the snake that had attacked the two apprentices that cursed day. The silver tabby thanked his lucky stars that his sons hadn't been involved. Both Stonepaw and Riverpaw could be rambunctious when they chose to be but luckily both boys had been tucked safely away in camp. Shaking himself to get the rain out of his ears and eyes, he padded closer to the border, rubbing against the underbrush to try and leave his scent but the rain would most likely just wash it away. Honestly, this patrol was pretty useless.
Sunmask open // in camp ★★☾★★
Running her tail down Skypaw's flank, she cast a gentle look at her niece. Sunmask had a relatively blank look on her face otherwise but inside she was shattered and broken. She'd let another clan mate die on her watch. Agony rushed through her chest and she inhaled sharply, surprised by the intensity of the pain. The medicine cat was starting to believe that she was never meant to take this path. Surely there were others who could do it better.
Turning away from her wounded kin, the flame point molly slipped out of the den. She couldn't meet the gaze of anyone but tried to find Rainstar by scent alone - a near impossible task with all the rain. She was going out to get herbs - she needed them desperately now, especially with Skypaw resting in her den. Two patrols had failed so far. Sunmask was determined to get those plants, no matter what. She wasn't in the mood to be compromised with today. Even in this crappy weather, they needed medicine. Briarleap with Tallbird and rest of patrol // hunting patrol - west lake ★★☾★★
Briarleap was relieved to be out of camp and on the hunting patrol. She would enjoy this freedom to the fullest while she could. Her belly was still small, barely bulging and she was content to continue with her warrior duties. Staying in camp would allow too many memories to flood her and she'd just wallow in her grief, at least this would keep her paws busy. The queen didn't appreciate the rain however and being soaked to the bone could not be great for her health. Still, Briarleap would push through.
Her brother's words had broken her to pieces, shattering her heart. Tornheart had been through so much in his life. The honey molly would give anything to take away all his pain and suffering. She shook herself, rushing forward to keep up with the patrol - not wanting to lag too far behind. Her paws slipped a bit in the mud and Briarleap let out a little yelp but luckily caught her footing.
A cat bumped into her from behind and she turned her head to try and make out who it was. The orange and white pelt was pretty distinctive. "It's alright, Tallbird," she mewed, trying to be heard over the roar of the downpour. Nightblaze open // in camp ★★☾★★
Nightblaze felt numb, at least he tried to keep it that way. He preferred the numbness really. The black tom had just come back from a hunting patrol but was already sitting beside the entrance, ready to get out of camp once more. His amber eyes flickered about camp, spotting Sunmask slipping out of her den.
The tom dipped his head in greeting, though he didn't get any acknoledgement in return. The medicine cat had been distant since Dappleface's death. He didn't bother to hide from the rain, just let it soak him. Though the camp walls were giving him a bit of shelter.
Riverpaw open // in camp ★★☾★★
The little silver bundle of energy was not to be subdued, though his heart did feel a bit heavy. He just couldn't sit still no matter how hard he tried. Instead he pounced on a rock that he'd found, rolling it between his paws and letting out soft, playful growls. Riverpaw didn't want to seem insensitive but he was just a young tom with the attention span of a flea.
"Take this," he growled with false menace before slapping the stone away from him, wincing as it went flying. Starclan he hoped it didn't hit anyone! He had forgotten that he was stuck inside the apprentice's den for the moment, because of the weather outside.
His den-mates might kick him out if he accidentally injured one of them...

Lightdrop with Nightblaze Camp After Dappleface's death, Lightdrop did nothing she had never done before - thrown herself wholly into her duties. She offered to be on any patrol that went out, even if Lionfang told her she needed time to rest. Time was the opposite of what she wanted - when she stopped moving, she started thinking about how Dappleface was really gone, and she didn't want to do that. Trying to sleep was the worst, when there was no way to run from her thoughts.
She had just been out hunting, looking for any prey that hadn't been hiding from the downpour. Unfortunately, she'd come back empty. The tortoiseshell padded back into camp, shivering and soaked through from the rain. Lightdrop appreciated the rain - it would've felt inappropriate if the sun was shining and the clan was so upset. She was surprised to see Nightblaze sitting by the entrance. "Ready to go out again?" She asked, shaking droplets off her whiskers. She'd seen the tom leaving camp on a patrol earlier.
Halfpaw with Birchwind and patrolBorder Patrol - Fire Mountains
Halfpaw had been more than happy when he'd been chosen to go on the border patrol. He wanted to do something productive, something that was a distraction from the grieving cats all around him. Even worse were the other apprentices, always going to visit Skypaw. Halfpaw didn't dislike his denmate, but he got uncomfortable sitting in the medicine cat den with her, trying to say something encouraging. No, he'd much rather be out here.
The rain soaked through his pelt, chilling his bones, and his paws sunk into the muddy ground. It wasn't a nice day for a patrol, and their scent would wash away, and thinking about these things, Halfpaw was less happy to be on the patrol. He looked over at Birchwind, who didn't exactly looked pleased. "Why send us on a border patrol instead of a hunting patrol?" He asked, cringing as his paw sunk into a particularly muddy spot. "Nothing will get done. Our scents going to wash away, and it isn't like rogues or foxes care much about our markers, anyway."
Stormpool - OpenCamp
Stormpool had spent a lot of her time peacefully in the warrior's den. She hadn't been assigned on many patrols, and it wasn't exactly like she minded - the downpour was awful, and even if her thick fur kept her mostly warm, it wasn't like she enjoyed splashing around in the rain. She was perfectly content to stay curled up in her warm nest with Birchwind, occasionally checking up on Mistydew - she would have her kits soon. She stretched, her stomach rumbling. Well, it wouldn't hurt to get up and get some fresh-kill. The large molly got to her paws and poked her head out of the warriors' den, flinching as a large drop hit her right on the nose. With a sigh, she padded out into camp, eyes on the soggy prey.
Lionfang - OpenCamp Lionfang had wanted to be on one of the patrols he sent out. He knew, though, that it would be best for him to stay in camp - Rainstar hadn't been right recently, though he couldn't blame her. He'd tried to be there to comfort and support his leader, and he thought he'd been doing an okay job at it. While Lionfang had been just as shaken about Dappleface's death, he didn't want to seem incapable as deputy because of it. He sent the cats out patrols that he thought needed it the most.
He sat in camp now, ignoring the rain pounding down. Lionfang wasn't about to go hide in his nest just because it was raining out. If anyone was having any problems, they were welcome to come talk to him about it. He looked over at Rainstar, sitting just outside her den. She didn't need any more stress on her.
Beepaw with StonepawCamp Beepaw couldn't count the amount of times she'd gone to visit her littermate. It seemed as if she was always in and out of the medicine cat den, sitting with Skypaw and asking how they were doing and when they'd be able to get back to training with her again. If Sunmask wasn't her aunt, Beepaw wouldn't be surprised if she'd gotten her ears clawed off. Thankfully, the rain was keeping her in the apprentice's den and out of anyone's business for the time being.
She rested with her head on her paws, her eyelids feeling heavy as she fought off the temptation to take a nap. What if she was needed for a patrol, or some big adventure? She couldn't just sleep in the middle of the day! Though the thought of going to sleep in her warm, cozy nest was just so tempting. Just as sleep began to win, the bitter scent of mouse bile hit her nose. Beepaw lifted her head to see Stonepaw enter the den. "Oh, hi!" She called, watching him as he sat in his nest to start cleaning himself. "You got elder duty?" The question was pointless - Stonepaw reeked. Beepaw was just silently hoping that the other apprentices wouldn't be mad at her for being the reason they were stuck in camp.

Skypaw || in medicine cat’s den
Skypaw was carefully arranged in their nest as to avoid putting pressure on their broken rib, their chest bound neatly and carefully. Still, they kept their head turned to face the den wall. Their limbs felt drowsy from painkilling herbs, but their mind remained sharp. Only their pride kept them from asking Sunmask for more poppy seeds to knock their thoughts out of their head.
The bed-ridden apprentice had been cold to visitors. Silent if they could, unfeeling at best. It wasn’t out of malice, and a part of them didn’t mean to be so, but they still couldn’t help but despair at the feeling that they didn’t deserve company. Stonepaw’s presence day after day sent especially befuddling spasms of emotion through their chest. After all, who should bother with such a failure as they?
All that swirled in their head was how far behind they would be on their training by the time they were discharged from the medicine cat’s den. How bitterly they would swallow seeing their sister stand before Rainstar, bestowed a warrior’s name moons before their own would come. (Perhaps something in that lies Skypaw’s especially frigid demeanor when Beepaw came to visit.)
Still, they could not deny that the worst moments were when they were alone. They had nothing to do when they had no cat to listen to. When Sunmask left the den, all they were left with were the silence, the noise of their own thoughts. And so, upon hearing Sunmask’s footfalls fading off into the rainfall, they lay, pooled in the painful quiet, punctuated by the pitter patter of the pouring rain.
Tornheart || outside of camp, then in camp with Willowshine
Tornheart sat before Dappleface’s burial spot, rain dripping through his fur. Darkfang had risen and left just minutes earlier (or was it hours?), just as the rain turned into a furious downpour, but Tornheart couldn’t pull himself away just yet. Besides, discomfort was simply a factoid of his life. The pinpricks of ice-cold rain pelting his head became a background blur as he sat with his thoughts.
He couldn’t help it. He badly wanted to talk to his old mentor again. And maybe, just maybe, he could hear her spirit through the rain.
It was, perhaps, a foolish thought. But, in a way, Tornheart knew Dappleface well enough to know what the she-cat would tell him.
He breathed in deeply, then stood up. He meant what he said at her burial. He didn’t get to tell her when she was alive. But now, he has the chance to share his true feelings with someone else.
Once Tornheart returned to camp, pelt soaked through, Willowshine was the first cat he saw. It was almost ridiculous how quickly the warmth that blossomed in his heart spread to his toes. He carefully made his way to her, silently cursing the mud between his toes and the way his drenched pelt stuck to his sides. Still, he summoned up his courage and mewed softly, “May I join you?”

Ashenlight -- with Brichwind, Halfpaw & Border Patrol // Fire Mountain
Ashenlight blinked quickly, trying to keep the rain from stinging her eyes. She watched as her brother rubbed his pelt against a nearby tree trunk, knowing that the scent wouldn't stick. Her attention now goes to Halfpaw as he expresses his frustration of being on a border patrol, part of which she agreed with but remembered the reason they'd been sent out in the first place.
"We're also supposed to be looking for signs of the snake." Ashenlight kindly reminded the younger tom, her tail lashing to the side and flicking rain water off with it. Though I'm not sure how accomplished that'll be if the rain has gotten ride of any tracks, The tabby thought to herself. She moves her paws faster in order to keep up with Birchwind, padding beside him now but slipping a bit in the mud in the process.
Tallbird -- with Briarleap & Hunting Patrol // West Lake
Tallbird felt her pelt heat up with embarrassment as she realized she had bumped right into Briarleap. Her thoughts quickly raced, wondering if she had harmed the queens kits in anyway, would they have to race back to Sunmask? The molly shakes the thoughts from her head, knowing that a little bump wouldn't harm the kits in any way, it was just her imagination that often got the best of her.
Giving the queen a sheepish smile, Tallbird ducked her head, grateful that she'd been forgiven. "Thanks, Briarleap!" She responded, finding herself having to raise her voice as well over the rain. "I'm going to feel a little ridiculous searching for fish in this rain, it's almost like we're fish ourselves with how wet our pelts are getting!" Tallbird said with a grin, padding beside Briarleap now.
Stonepaw -- with Beepaw // camp, apprentices den
Stonepaw whipped his head in Beepaw's direction, his fur bristling as she reminded him of his stench. He gives the molly a small smile, giving a nod as he ran his tongue over his chest. "Yeah, unfortunately." He said with a sigh, now glaring at his paws. "I've been thinking if I should just stand out in the rain and let it soak my pelt." Stonepaw tells her, looking off at the den entrance and seeing the rain pouring down outside, as well as catching glimpses of his brother attacking a stone.
"Though," He begins again, "I'm not sure what's worse: having a soaked pelt or smelling of bile." Stonepaw doesn't take long to think it over before standing from his nest. "I think I'd rather take a soaked pelt over anything." The silver tom looks back to Beepaw and grins. "Were you about to take a nap? I hope my smell didn't wake you."
{highprince} (I just remembered i'd use the orange for him lol)
Willowshine -- with Tornheart // camp
When she heard pawsteps approaching her, Willowshine glanced towards them and looked elated to see Tonrheart. She can't stop the purr rumbling in her throat as he asks to join her and she nods immediately. "Yes, please do." She finds herself having to talk a little louder, the rain pelting the branches above them was rather loud. Willowshine was grateful for the cover of the large trees that made up their camp, keeping it mostly dry from the rain they constantly would experience this time of the season. "I was actually just thinking about you." The gray molly admitted, giving him a bashful expression as she moves over in order for Tornheart to settle beside her. "I've been meaning to...there's been something...I wanted..." Willowshine starts her sentence several times over but is unsure on how to continue. The she-cat casts her gaze down towards her paws and shifts uncomfortably, her left ear twitching several times before it becomes still once again. "I'm glad you're here." She finally manages, glancing towards the golden-brown tom.
Rainstar -- with Sunmask, mentions Lionfang // camp
Tuning back to reality, Rainstar glances outwards and notices Sunmask headed her way. Her whiskers twitch and she hesitates before standing up, stretching her back legs quickly as she approaches the medicine cat. "Is there something you needed?" Rainstar asked, trying to put some emotion in her tone so she wouldn't come across as annoyed. She'd be lying if she said her heart didn't pick up at Sunmask approaching her, worried there must be something wrong, but she stopped her mind from wandering too much.
Her eyes flicker over to Lionfang, looking surprised when she meets the toms amber gaze. It distracts her for a moment as she holds his stare and offers a nod and a slight smile in return before her attention goes back to Sunmask.

Tornheart || in camp with Willowshine
Tornheart gratefully took cover under the trees arching branches, beginning to groom the water from his damp pelt beside Willowshine. His heart was starting to flutter in anticipation, his mind kept trying to settle on the right words, the right time. Was this the right time? What other time would he get?
Then his heart rate picked up a little faster at Willowshine’s words. He stopped his grooming, catching Willowshine’s gaze with his own. Treacherous heat crept through his fur as his mind nibbled on Willowshine’s words, wondering if, maybe, perhaps - no. Of course not.
“I’m really glad you’re here, too,” he said, heart thundering so hard now he could hear it over the roar of the rain above their heads. “You’re - you’re really amazing, Willowshine.” He couldn’t pull himself away from the green of her eyes. “I…” he pondered for words. “I can’t stop thinking about the important cats in my life,” he admitted. “How easy it is to lose them. And I - I guess I just want you to know. You’re so, so important to me.” Finally, his nerve ran out, and he looked down at his paws, kind of smiling a little sadly. His heart was pulsing in his ears, almost bracing for the inevitable gentle letdown, if she even deciphered the confession from his words. This thought, perhaps, let slip the quietly uttered words, “I wish I was good enough to be by your side.”

Thorntail kept his head bent against the rain as he crossed the camp, his eyes trained on the muddy ground. Since Dapplemask's death, he'd focused on the same thing he always did - doing his duty and not thinking about his feelings. Today, he'd allowed himself a rare morning off after he hadn't been assigned to a patrol. Although part of him itched to be out and busy, just a few heartbeats out in the downpour made him glad he'd chosen to stay in camp. As he approached the freshkill pile, he greeted Stormpool with a brusque nod. "Can you believe the weather we're having?" highprinceHazel stirred in her makeshift den to the unpleasant feeling of raindrops dripping through the boughs of the thorn bush and onto her fur. Not wanting to open her eyes, she groaned and pulled her tail over her face. It was hard to get back to sleep, though, when her fur was becoming progressively damper. Hazel thought back over the past few days. She'd taken Ashenlight's advice and stayed close to the border, hunting and sleeping outside of CedarClan territory. Ashenlight hadn't come back and neither had any other cats. Her life was perfectly comfortable - certainly for a travelling rogue - but honestly, without any exciting encounters to liven things up Hazel was getting more and more bored.

Fallowkit // in the elder's den // with Brokentalon, Deerspirit, and Redwood
Blinking her green eyes blearily, Fallowkit woke, shivering, from her shallow slumber, feeling even more tired than when she'd gone to sleep the night before. She'd gotten little rest in the days since Dappleface's passing, her dreams filled with the older she-cat's kind face. But she couldn't nap any longer - the fierce pitter-patter of the downpour was as loud as hail, and small drops of water occasionally dripped onto her soft grey fur from the nursery roof above. She slowly stood up to stretch her tired limbs, and realized with a start that Brackenkit wasn't in the den. No wonder she'd felt so cold, without his warm pelt pressed up against her as she slept. Fallowkit quietly crept to the entrance and peered out into the torrential rain. She could already see long rivulets of water stretching across the camp, feeding into little puddles that might be fun to splash through once the storm died down. She glanced around camp, looking for something to do, then spotted the elder's den just to the side of the nursery. Perhaps the older cats would be willing to tell a story, maybe even one about Dappleface to ease Fallowkit's grief. Ducking her head down, the little kit sprinted through the rain and barged into the elder's den, nearly skidding into Brokentalon in the process. She stared wide-eyed at the ancient tom, hoping she didn't accidentally spray him with water. That was sure to put him in a bad mood. "S-sorry to run in like that," she stammered, backing away a few steps to the corner of the den. "I was wondering if I could hear a story or two." She bent her head to give her chest an embarrassed lick, looking at her paws.

Brackenkit // in camp // open
The rain really didn't bother Brackenkit all that much. He kind of liked the feel of it soaking through his fur - the icy chillness it brought woke him right up and made him feel alert and alive. Plus, that sharp, icy feeling helped take his mind off the other things bothering him. At the moment, he was stalking a small shrew that clearly lacked any form of luck and had managed to wander right into a camp full of hungry predators, seeking shelter in the leafy parts of the camp wall. Brackenkit held his breath, hoping the rain pounding down around him would disguise his scent, and stalked slowly forward as he'd seen the apprentices demonstrate. The tip of his tail twitched, and he had to remind himself to stop moving it around in case the shrew somehow saw. He took another step, slowly sliding his front paw forward across the muddy ground. The shrew paused in its scouting along the wall, and Brackenkit tensed. Pay no attention, he willed it with his mind. Just let me kill you already, please. A heartbeat later, the shrew darted along the side of the camp wall, faster than Brackenkit thought it could even move. He moved to leap forward and intercept it, but his back paw slipped on a patch of wet leaves and Brackenkit thudded to the ground, getting a faceful of mud. He looked up and wiped the mud from his eyes with a paw, watching his quarry slip away to safety. "Mouse-dung!" he cursed, struggling to his paws and continuously slipping on the muddy surface. After the third time trying to stand up, Brackenkit collapsed to the ground with as angry of a sigh as he could muster. He must look ridiculous right now. I sure hope no one saw that miserable display, he thought, sinking deeper into the mud .

Willowshine -- with Tornheart // camp
You're so important to me
Willowshine could feel her heart beating heavily against her chest as she listened to Tornheart's words, wondering if he was feeling the same way she was. Was this it? Could this finally be their moment? Willowshine had been sitting on her feelings for Tornheart for so long, having wanted to confess for a long time but never knew when she should do it, how she should do it, or if she should even do it at all. She listens to him talk with bated breath, gazing at Tornheart and smiling softly at him. However, her smile falters at what she eventually hears.
I wish I was good enough to be by your side. I wish I was good enough to be by your side. I wish I was good enough to be by your side
Those words echo in her ears and she feels her heart drop to her stomach. Willowshine blinks in disbelief, brow bones coming together in confusion as she is completely caught off guard, unsure of what to say at first, or rather, unsure of how she wants to say all of the thoughts flooding into her head. "Good enough? Tornheart, what do you mean by good enough?" She sounds completely anguished, frowning now and pressing flush against his side. "Tornheart, you are the only tom, no, the only cat, that I want by my side. There has been, and is, no one else that I want." Willowshine fixes her gaze on him, not just focusing on his good eye, but looking at his as a whole, scars and all.
"My affections for you have run deeper than before we were warriors, before and after your accident," She lets out a shaky sigh, nerves running rampant in her stomach so she has to take a moment to breathe, a moment to prepare herself for what she wants to say, "when I think about my future family I have always pictured you by my side surrounded by our kits. So, don't you dare say that you are not good enough to be by my side when it is you who I've always wanted right next to me." Willowshine can feel her heart beat vibrating throughout her whole body, heat floods the tips of her ears and she almost forgets that they are in camp and not by themselves.

Brokentalon -- with Fallowkit // elders den
Brokentalon had been awake for some time now, the rain thundering above the roof of the den would keep anyone up, plus the cold and wet weather made his joints extra stiff. He laid in his nest, unmoving and enjoying the silence the elders den brought, thankful that Deerspirit wasn't yapping away. The scruffy old tom gave a weary glance towards Redwood who was facing the wall of the den, laying in her own nest and looked to be stewing in her thoughts. To say the red and white she-cat made him nervous was an understatement, there was a reason the young molly was in the elders den and Brokentalon wasn't sure if he liked it.
He was pulled from his thoughts when he heard the little pitter-patter of paws racing towards the den, and soon enough he watched as Fallowkit made her way towards them. Curiosity pulled him in, that is until he watched the young she-kit slip and tumble right into the den, landing right on him. Brokentalon remained calm as Fallowkit squeaked out an apology and give her chest an awkward lick as an attempt to comfort herself. Had it been anyone else, Brokentalon would've given them an earful and cuff it while he was at it, but Fallowkit was lucky that he had such a soft spot for kittens.
"A story, huh?" He repeated in his gruff voice, thinking of a good one to tell the young kit. He searched his brain and found that Dappleface kept coming up. It still made his heart ache at the thought of his one and only apprentice's passing, she had been such a good student and he had been a much more patient cat back then. Brokentalon grunts as he stretches out, feeling his bones and joints shift and crack, then adjusts how he's laying before patting his paw right beside him, inviting Fallowkit to lay by his side.
"Fallowkit did you know that I used to have a different name? I was first known as Eagletalon, back when my leg still worked, and the first apprentice I ever had was actually Dappleface, though she was Dapplepaw back then. Have I ever told you the time she tried to catch her first squirrel?" A smile spread across his maw, trying to recall the memory now.

Fallowkit // elder's den // with Brokentalon
Fallowkit couldn't help letting out a small sigh of relief to see that Brokentalon wasn't mad. She licked her fur to get out as much water as she could, then carefully stepped over to the elder and laid down at his flank. She listened with pricked ears as he began to speak, a jolt of surprise running through her as he admits once having a different name. "Really?" she mewed. "I always thought Brokentalon sounded like such a cool name, though." And then he mentioned Dappleface. It was hard to imagine sweet, kind Dappleface being mentored by gruff old Brokentalon, and she stifled a giggle at the thought. It made her wonder who Rainstar would choose as Fallowkit's mentor once her own time came to be apprenticed. "Tell me, please!" she begged Brokentalon as he asked if she wanted to hear the story. "Did she catch it perfectly the first time? Was she incredible?" For the first time since the she-cat's death, Fallowkit didn't feel grief at the thought of Dappleface, but rather joy in remembering her. It felt nice.

Tornheart || in camp with Willowshine
Tornheart was in a whirlpool of bewildered, stunned joy. His mind and heart were in a tug of war, his heart melting into a pool of delighted squeals while his mind desperately, fearfully protested that this can’t be happening, this can’t be what Willowshine meant, maybe he heard wrong, don’t be foolish you’ll get your hopes up and you’ll get hurt and hurt and hurt -
But how can he pull himself away, with the holder of his heart pressing against his side despite his wet fur, gazing at him with those eyes?
When he finally let himself believe her words, let them sink deep into his chest, the swell of emotions was unbearable. Tornheart could barely parse through them, from sheer joy to nerves and doubt and regret and his heart was going to burst. He shook a little, burying his head in Willowshine’s shoulder. “Willowshine,” he whispered. “I never thought - I always thought -“ For one wild moment he felt like bursting into laughter. He’d always kept his true feelings to his chest, hadn’t he? Had he been carefully holding cats at arm’s distance all this time by keeping on a cheerful face, not letting them in and seeing his heart? He’d always justify it, telling himself that they could no longer bear to look upon his face, or that his heart would hurt less when he’d watch their inevitable journey to Starclan. Could he dare let someone in?
Maybe, he thought, letting himself lean on another cat for the first time in a long while, it was worth it.
“If you want me by your side, I will be there,” he said, “I will be there for you forever.”

Mistydew || in nursery, alone, Stormpool mentioned
Mistydew could feel it. Her kits wanted out, soon. For some reason she kept looking out at the rain, her heart starting to hammer in her chest as if it wanted to run away. “Why does it feel like a bad omen,” she muttered harshly under her breath, curling up in her nest and plopping the tip of her tail over her nose. Even the Brackenkit and Fallowkit were out. If the new loner and her kits were still in the nursery, Mistydew didn’t bother to notice.
Stormpool had been checking up on her over the past few days, which Mistydew appreciated more than she dared to express. Mistydew was feeling the weight of her kits more and more, less and less willing to leave her nest, let alone the nursery, and go about camp finding herself entertainment and drama. The warrior’s presence kept Mistydew’s mind from sheer boredom, as well as fears that kept encroaching as more and more days passed. She didn’t want to think how she would fare without Stormpool, and so she didn’t.
The rest of her time alone, she spent spinning wild fantasies about her kits. How great they would come, what kind of paths they would lead. She tried to picture how they might look. Would they possess her grey fur, Cracklewood’s eyes? What would she do if one of her kits emerged the portrait of her lost love?
She closed her eyes firmly. She wasn’t going to be a resentful mother. She’ll love those kits so fiercely, she’ll guide them to greatness. Then one day, Rainstar, she thought, it would no longer be you on that Highroot.
((y'know, i hadn't thought of giving mistydew a potential redemption arc before, but just maybe, sometime far off into the future, the power of friendship may guide her to some spot of happiness))
