Gila felt herself rolling her eyes at Shadower's attitude. Couldn't he see that she was no threat? Much less did she even care about his little clan. She wasn't making a big deal about him being on her homeland, so why should he do the same to her?
The she-cat gave a snort at his words. Play coy? Please. She'd play whatever she wanted. "Oh I was aware. I have a nose too." She said earnestly. "I have a home too. So if you'll excuse me, I'd like to get back to looking for food." Gila stepped away from the tom and took a few steps forward. She was aware that the tom would more than likely chase after her, but she didn't care. This was fun. The gray she-cat was taking great joy in annoying him.

Shadowfur bolted after her, now extremely annoyed. Come on, Shadowfur. Keep your claws to yourself. You can fix this without spraying blood.
He cut her off, his muscles rippling angrily beneath his black pelt. "The last time I checked, this was DarkClan territory. Not yours, whoever you are. You aren't a DarkClan cat, and therefore you have no place here. Now, I'm being nice and giving you yet another opportunity to just turn around and go back to the other side of the border. Otherwise, blood is going to be shed, and you might just die. I have a tendency to get a little crazy when I'm defending my borders." He ended his sentence with a fierce snarl, hoping his threat was enough to scare the she-cat off his land. He didn't want to have to explain himself to Littlestar... again.

When Gila was cut off she gave an annoyed huff. Toms. Why were they so annoying? They were fun to toy with, though. Gila rolled her eyes at Shadower, before narrowing her eyes at his words. "My name is Gila. And I'm not leaving. This is my home too. I'm not chasing you out of yours." If the gray she-cat had a tail she'd be lashing it. She wasn't scared of the tom. She had seen much more terrifying things in her life. She didn't get a torn ear and others scars from birth. "Oh. You're protective? How cute." She snorted, rolling her eyes once more in mock amusement. Who did this cat this he was, anyway? Some all powerful feline she should worship? Gila gave a snort at the thought.

Shadowfur couldn't help but laugh. "What are you, a kit?" he asked, his voice dripping with malice. "You don't get how this whole thing works, do you? DarkClan have been living here for generations. You, on the other paw, have only been living here for a few seasons. Therefore, we own this territory. You do not have the right to stake your claim here. And if you don't believe me, I'll gladly bring a patrol of warriors out here to show you what we mean- with tooth and claw." He leaned forward, getting right up in her face. "Got the message?"

Gila snorted at Shadowfur's laugh. A kit? Please. She was obviously much more mature than that. He was the one acting like a kit. Gila rolled her eyes at his threat. "More warriors?" She snorted, slowly walking to the side of him, her fluffy pelt slightly brushing up against his. She stopped and turned her neck to look at him. "I'm just shaking in my paws." She teased, flicking her ear before sitting down and licking her forepaw. "But yeah, I got your message. That doesn't mean I'm leaving, though." Gila drug her paw over her ear and stood up once more. She turned around and looked at him, her yellowish eyes gleaming with tease.

(I ship it xD)
Shadowfur let out a furious yowl, one that echoed across the otherwise silent desert."That's it! I've given you every chance to leave. I've been patient. Nice, even. Well, now you've just worn out my patience. And let me tell you, that's a mistake you won't be making again." Shaking his head, he tensed his muscles, ready to attack. He counted to three, and then sprang.
He extended his claws, snarling in fury. He brought his paw down, claws aiming for Gila's face. Oh, how she'd soon come to regret ever crossing that border.

At Shadowfur's yowl Gila slightly jumped. Yet again she had to ask herself what his problem was. He couldn't handle just a simple tease? Man, his entire clan must hate him. Gila ignored his words when she saw the tom tense up. She let out a low hiss, flattening her ears to her head. Him threatening to attack just made Gila want to rub her presence in his face even more. Oh how he should wait for the future.
When Shadowfur sprang, Gila crouched back. The she-cat gave a loud scream when she felt his claws score across her face. She flinched at the pain. Gila unsheathed her own claws, eyes narrowing. She leapt forward at Shadowfur, doing her best to at least try and knock him to the ground. She hadn't been looking for a fight, but now that was inevitable.

This was the first real time Antpaw had interacted with Adderstrike. He had always thought the tomcat to be interesting, not the best, but certainly interesting. Who Antpaw looked up to the most was Littlestar, but what apprentice didn't look up to the leader of their Clan? Or even the deputy of the Clan? But right now DarkClan had no deputy, at least not yet. Antpaw was sure Littlestar would name one soon, or at least within the season; however, what Littlestar did wasn't any of Antpaw's problems. The leader was reasonable for what he did.
Antpaw's stinging cheek was a deep reminder of what Adderstrike had just done. The anger welling inside the tiny tom wasn't going to go away as easily as the pain, but he could at least do something with his anger.
The apprentice lunged forward, aiming to take Adderstrike down with an effective slash of claws, but the warrior, with his more experience, managed to easily dodge, leaving Antpaw to fumble into the sand. A throaty growl ripped through his tiny frame as he quickly got back to his paws. Antpaw menacingly flashed off his fangs. "Clanmates fight all the time! It's part of DarkClan. It's how you show your worth!" Good gosh, didn't this warrior know anything? He was acting like some sort of softhearted SolaceClan cat or something. "DarkClan cats attack when they feel like it," he spat with venom in his words. What was up with Adderstrike, trying to stop a fight with weak words? That wasn't how a DarkClan cat was supposed to act, not in Antpaw's mind at least.

His adrenaline flared, his mind and heart soaring at the opportunity to fight. He had been born to defend his borders with tooth and claw. His father was wrong. The best way to defend the borders was to shed blood. It gave a serious message that was hard to ignore He lifted a paw and swung at Gila again, this time aiming for her side. Just a few more blows, he figured, and she'd be running as fast as she could away from him and his land.

Adderstrike flattened his ears at Antpaw. Obviously Antpaw had no real guidance as a kit, and while Adderstrike couldn't blame him for that, the apprentice should at least now how to act now. That was what Adderstrike thought at least. Sure. DarkClan warriors were egotistical and excellent at fighting. Always caught up in themselves and no one else, but that didn't give any member of the clan a right to attack without reason or disobey legitimate rules. Adderstrike was at least trying to be noble. There was no deputy, after all, and it was a position any warrior would want- Adderstrike included.
The tabby jumped out of Antpaw's way when the ruddy tom lunged. He was able to land on his paws, but still kicked up sand in the process, getting it all in his pelt. The warrior hissed and bared his teeth at Antpaw once more. At Antpaw's comment Adderstrike couldn't help but snort. If that's what he thought, then he'd have a hard life ahead of him. "That's for your warrior ceremony, mouse brain." He hissed, though amusement was evident in his words. "You should really learn how clan life works." Adderstrike lashed his tail and stood up, straightening out his legs. The tabby shook the sand out of his coat. "I'm going to hunt. You can either go back to camp and whine to Littlestar about me, or go wherever I go. I don't care." Adderstrike huffed as he spoke. He knew he was over the tom's actions before this fight even started, but this time he meant it. Adderstrike sheathed his claws and trotted off into the desert.

When Gila threw herself at Shadowfur, she did so with a hiss. She was going to show this warrior that she wasn't afraid of him, no matter what it took. She fell back into the sand and shook out her gray pelt. She crouched down and circled him, pleased when she saw him stumble. The tom might have been bigger than her physically, but that wasn't going to stop her. Physical strength meant nothing to the she-cat.
Gila spat at the black tom when he raised his paw at her. She jumped to the side and avoided his blow, a small smirk on her face. "Such a mighty warrior." She taunted, her cheek still stinging from the slash. Gila jumped once more at Shadower, this time toward his flank in attempt to throw the warrior off balance and into the sand. Luckily the she-cat didn't have to worry about him grabbing her tail.

Adderstrike was right about how fighting was part of the warrior ceremony, but Antpaw had been raised to believe fighting was about everything. That was how DarkClan was - fighting was life. As one of the few cats to have been actually born in DarkClan, Antpaw felt like he knew more about the Clan than any other cat. True DarkClan blood ran in his veins - even his parents had been born into the Clan they lived in for the rest of their lives. That meant he had pure blood running through him. By birth he was better than any other cat, or so he believed. If he truly had it his way Adderstrike would be underneath him.
Antpaw snorted. He calmed himself down just enough to stop from attacking Adderstrike; in his mind he was above the tom, so he was going to try and act like it. If Adderstrike wanted to make things difficult then it was all on him, not Antpaw now. "I know how Clan life works. I bet you weren't even born in DarkClan," he muttered under his breath, not caring if Adderstrike heard or not. The apprentice then fell silent, saying no more. He did continue to follow after the warrior, though, in hopes that he could at least one up the tabby by catching something first - or catching something bigger and meatier than Adderstrike could.

The tom turned to meet her. He reared back up on his hind legs, opening his forelegs to expose his chest and belly. It was a move he had come up with himself during training, and was what had proved to Littlestar that he was ready for his final assessment. He took the full force of the blow, grunting as he did so. As the she-cat slammed against him, he wrapped his front legs around her. He collapsed into the dirt, rolling over and pressing her down into the sand. "Getting cozy there, Shadowfur?" The black tom jerked his head around at the all-too familiar voice. He curled his lip at what he saw. "Sunfang." The small black tom snorted, his eyes glimmering with amusement. "What's the matter, Shadowfur?" he sneered. "Irritated that I interrupted your 'alone time' with this she-cat, who might I remind you is a foreigner?" Shadowfur snarled at him. "Take a look, brother. There's blood on her face. I've been fighting her."

As Adderstrike turned to pad off, the warrior didn't catch what Antpaw had said about him. Even if he did, it didn't matter. Adderstrike would have ignored the small tom, anyway. Though, Antpaw was right. Sort of. While Adderstrike had been born in DarkClan, he had no idea who his father had been, or is. For all he knew the tom was an outside cat or even a clan member. Whoever he was, Adderstrike didn't know him. The tabby wasn't about to let Antpaw know that, though. He would be digging his own grave.
Adderstrike let a small smirk fall over his usually stoic features when he heard Antpaw following him. The tom couldn't help it. The apprentice was finally listening. At least something clicked in his small mind. Adderfang silently walked through the vast desert, his amused face falling back into it's usual, solemn state. Before long the tom stopped, lowering his tail and perking his ears. Adderfang crouched and crept forward, his eyes facing the blackness. He had scented a lizard. Darting forward, Adderfang made his catch quickly and effortlessly.
~~
Gila gave a small yowl as she threw herself at Shadowfur once more, though this time her move wasn't as successful. Before she knew it, she found herself landing in the sand with a grunt, the large black tom pinning her down. Gila hissed at Shadowfur, trying to wiggle out of his grasp. She was sure the tom wouldn't kill her. He'd have to be heartless to do it, and the sheer fact that he hadn't attacked her sooner showed Gila that Shadowfur had at least a small bit of compassion. A little was better than none.
Out of nowhere another black tom showed up, his presence causing a quarrel between he and Shadowfur. Gila perked her ears and relaxed, her yellowy eyes moving between the two. Sunfang? Brother? Gila figured they were from the same clan. At the mention of 'alone time', Gila snorted. The gray she-cat wiggled out from under Shadowfur and stood up, shaking the sand from her fluffy gray coat. "We weren't getting 'cozy'" She snapped, gray coat puffed out slightly in annoyance. Were all of the clan cats rude?

If there was one thing Antpaw prided himself on it was the fact that he had been born in DarkClan. He knew not every cat got that lucky. There were even some warriors that he really looked up to that had not been born in the Clan - Thunderfang was one of those cats. It was said that the black she-cat had been born in OwlClan, the neighboring Clan that valued wisdom over everything else. DarkClan blood did not run in the she-cat's veins, but she was a DarkClanner through and through. Countless times Antpaw had watched the she-cat prove herself as a worthy cat of DarkClan, only caring about herself. She was a sharp and skilled warrior, though at times it was noted that she did have some OwlClan tendencies. With her muscular figure hunting was not a strong suit of the she-cat, but she had made up a way in which she could hunt just as effectively as, say, Antpaw could. Her sharp thinking on that part had allowed her to survive as cats had to feed themselves in this Clan. Speaking of feeding themselves.
Antpaw felt a tinge of hunger grow in his stomach. His copper eyes narrowed as he parted his jaws, drawing in the scents of the night around him. Just as Adderstrike had spotted it Antpaw had scented the lizard. Before Antpaw could do a thing the lizard was already in Adderstrike's jaws. The apprentice lashed his tail in annoyance. The next prey to be found was going to be his. He was going to get it before Adderstrike could even tell it was there. Heck, he was going to take down a big hare or maybe even a roosting roadrunner. He was going to catch something much better than a lousy lizard.

Adderfang had gotten to where he didn't care about clan blood anymore. Well, at least not for himself. If an outsider were to join the clan, that would be different, but for cats born in DarkClan, that didn't matter to him. They were DarkClan cats. Adderfang knew he was DarkClan cat whether anyone else believed it or not, and that was all that mattered to him.
And just like a DarkClan warrior, Adderfang only thought of himself. After he caught the lizard, the tabby noticed the growling hunger in his stomach. He crouched down in the sand and ate the small reptile, paying no mind to Antpaw. How was he supposed to hunt on an empty stomach?

Sunfang's eyes snapped from his brother to Gila. He let out a low, smooth purr. "Sure looked that way to me." Looking back to his brother, he added, "My brother's always been a hit with the females, but I never imaged that he'd attract the outsiders too. Although, for an outside cat you sure aren't that bad-looking. Quite attractive, I must say." He slid a little closer to the she-cat.
Shadowfur stood up, stepping in between his brother and Gila. "Back off, Sunfang," he growled. "She's an outsider, and therefore not appropriate for you." As soon as the words were out of his mouth, he realized what they sounded like to him, and mentally smacked himself.
Sure enough, the smaller cat's eyes glowed with amusement. "Jealous?"
"I'm not jealous! I'm trying to save you a world of trouble! If Littlestar knew you were flirting with an outsider, he'd claw you to bits!"

Gila's eyes sparkled with mirth as the new tom spoke, and even more when Shadowfur stepped in. The gray she-cat knew she was easy on the eyes, and didn't need a tom telling her, but the compliments were nice. She twitched her bobbed tail. "Oh I'm quite aware." She purred, her voice smooth. The fluffy she-cat relaxed. Was Shadowfur jealous? He really seemed like it to Gila. The loner couldn't help but feel a bit bad for him, like she needed to take up for him. He had just attacked her and all, but now he was taking up for her. Man. He was more confusing than a pregnant she-cat.
Gila stepped between the two, gliding her body across the two toms' chests. "Please." She snorted, rolling her eyes. "Don't you two toms have anything better to do? Or are you so alone in your clan to where you have to fight over a little she-cat like me? But please, continue if you must. It's all so amusing." Gila gave a small smirk. Her words were teasing, but she loved it. Playing around with these two toms was fun, especially if they were going to be arguing over her like this.

Shadowfur tensed slightly as Gila brushed against him, whereas Sunfang gave a satisfied smirk. Rolling his eyes at his brother's attitude, Shadowfur said, "Don't mind my brother, Gila. He flirts with everyone. Just because he says something flirty to you doesn't mean he's interested. Besides, he's not even that handsome. I, on the other hand, am." He took the opportunity to get a jab at his littermate. The two toms' egos were so high they might just have touched the sky.
The two toms stared each other off, both waiting for Gila to make a comment. Even though neither were particularly interested in the she-cat, neither was going to admit so as that would be akin to admitting defeat. And, in the toms' eyes, defeat was not an option.

Gila rolled her eyes at Shawdowfur's comment. "I never said I was interested, either." She stated, looking up at Shadowfur. At his next statement, the she-cat couldn't help but giving a small laugh. "Are all cats in your so called 'clan' as cocky as you two? Or is that just a brotherly thing?" Gila asked, stepping away from the two toms slightly so she could look at both of them better.
The flat-faced she-cat looked from Shadowfur to Sunfang, and then back to Shadowfur, studying him with her yellowish eyes. If she had to pick between the two she'd go with Shadowfur, but choosing wasn't even an option for her. After all, the large tom had just attacked her, and she'd have scars from that. She could string him along all she wanted, but in order to catch feelings he'd have to do something special.

Sunfang stared at his brother before shrugging and turning away. "Well, Sunfang out. I've got better things to do than stand here and stare at my brother like it's gonna make him any less egotistical." With that, he padded away, nose high in the air.
Shadowfur spat after him as he left. "Phah! What a mouse-brain. Thinking he can just go around and get in with any she-cat he wants. Doesn't even..." His voice trailed away, and he ended up mumbling to himself for several moments before turning back toward Gila. "Well, I think you've gotten the message now. You don't want to associate with us, clearly, and as much as it might seem like we do we don't want to associate ourselves with you. So.... Head out, will you? Before there's more trouble. If a patrol comes along, they won't be as nice."

Gila snorted at Sunfang before looking back at Shadowfur. Sure, both toms were egotistical and annoying, but from as much as she knew about them, Gila could already tell she liked Shadowfur more. "You do realize that means you won that little argument, right?" She asked, tipping her head to the side and looking up at him.
The she-cat blinked at Shadower's words. Had he not heard anything she had said earlier? He was going to be nice now? After he attacked her? Gila shook her head. "I'm not leaving." She said once more, still standing her ground. "And you look lonely enough as it is. Why don't you stay?" The question was a long shot, and she thought she knew the answer, but she couldn't help but ask. Something about this tom was different. He was egotistical, snobby, and arrogant yes, but Gila could tell that deep down he had a soft spot. Life a loner did get lonely, and while Gila loved the freedom she had, she also sometimes wished she had a friend. She didn't care if she didn't see the tom everyday, but every once in a while she wouldn't hate.

He sighed. Why couldn't she just accept that she didn't own the land they were setting paw on? Was she really that dumb? He knew just what a patrol would do to her- they'd tear into her until she was nothing more than a bloody, dead mess. Didn't she understand that? Was he the first cat she'd ever met from the Clans?
He sat down, curling his tail tight around his paws. Being the kind of tom he was, he didn't understand why he was bothering to talk her into leaving. He knew he should just kill her and leave it at that. Perhaps dad's words are getting to me more than I realized, he thought, feeling slightly disgusted at the thought.
He took a deep breath. "Give me a reason why you aren't going to leave. You aren't a Clan cat, therefore you can't live here. You'll get yourself killed. DarkClan cats don't appreciate cats who aren't DarkClan being in our borders. And... I'm not even supposed to be treating you like this. We're taught to think of ourselves and only ourselves, and therefore you won't get any help should a patrol find you. In fact, they'll rip you to shreds without even saying anything first. So tell me, why stay here and risk your life?"

Gila studied Shadowfur as he sat down. She knew he wasn't all bad, and this was proving it. If he didn't care, the tom would have left already, or killed her. The bloody slash on her face proved to her that he meant business, even if she didn't really care. Gila questioned whether she should sit down. Could she trust him enough for that? Or was he just trying to get her in a weak spot so he could kill her? While she thought Shadowfur was actually a good cat, she still didn't know his true motives. Gila decided to risk it. She crouched down on the sand cautiously, keeping her ears perked at the tom.
She listened to him speak. He had a point. She respected him for being so dedicated to his clan, but that wasn't going to change her mind. "This is my home, too." She mewed slightly tensing up. "I've been here my entire life and you're the first clan cat I've run into. I'm not scared. And I'm not leaving my home." Gila didn't understand why Shadowfur thought that was wrong. She wasn't asking him to leave his home, so why was he telling her to leave her's? That didn't seem fair in her mind, especially when she had spent her entire life living amongst them without either the she-cat or the clan knowing it.

Shadowfur let out a short chuckle. "That's exactly it. You've been here your entire life, whereas DarkClan has been here for generations. It's easy for a lone cat with no ties to just get up and move on. But for us? There are so many of us that we can't do that. We've been here for countless seasons. We've endured. You are just one cat standing against a history of many, many cats. We have been here long enough to say we truly own this land. You, on the other hand, simply live here. And while you've been here your entire life, this isn't it. You have the whole world. We, on the other hand, have just this. Do you understand?"

Gila felt her fur bristle once more. The she-cat stood up and narrowed her eyes. Why didn't he understand? She couldn't just leave; she didn't have anywhere to leave to. "You've only lived in your clan for your entire life. Not generations." She snapped, flattening her ears to her head. "I'm not telling you to leave your home and uproot your life and try to find somewhere else to go. No. I'm just dealing with you and living around you and your clan like I always have. Why is that so hard for you? It's only me out here." Gila had never seen another loner out in the desert before, and if there were any, they were doing a good job of hiding themselves. Now, she had heard stories about the wild clan cats from her parents and littermates, but they were long gone. Never did she once see a clan cat until today. So why was it so hard for them to live with her in their territory? She was just going to ignore them, anyway. Just like she always had.

With Adderstrike eating the lizard, Antpaw decided he might as well just head off and do his own thing. He himself was hungry, and as any DarkClan cat, he had to fend for himself. So off he went.
Antpaw wasn't going to go too far from Adderstrike, but far enough to catch his own prey. He was going to go and catch something amazing to show off to Adderstrike. He was going to rub it all in the warrior's face and show him that even as an apprentice he could do so much better; after all, he was full DarkClan for probably all generation of family members. Scenting the air he started to the left from Adderstrike, hoping he would find the biggest piece of prey ever.

He sighed. Mother, give me patience. "If you just love it so much around here, then why don't you just join the Clan?" he asked, irritated again. "It's not like it'll do you any harm. At least it'll keep you from getting your pelt ripped off should a patrol catch you hunting around here." No sooner had he finished his sentence than a scent hit his nose.
Fox dung!
"Get down!" he spat. "Patrol coming!" He gave her a harsh shove, jerking his head toward a scraggly plant nearby. His tail lashed urgently as he hoped she understood the graveness of the situation.

After finishing his lizard, Adderstrike swiped his tongue across his mouth. The tom stayed in his crouching position as Antpaw padded off. He kept his eyes on the apprentice. The small tom was still an apprentice, after all, and he needed guidance. What if he found himself in a situation he couldn't get out of? Adderstrike gave a small grunt at the thought. Yeah. That'd be just his luck.

Gila hissed at Shadowfur's response. "I don't want to join your stupid clan. I don't want to follow your stupid, selfish rules and have a long, pointless name. You have no idea how great it is to be free." The she-cat didn't even want to think about the tom's offer, though it really wasn't a bad one. She would have a sturdy home, a friend...but on the contrary she'd always be treated like an outcast, forced to give up her name, and put up the persona that she hated everyone but herself. She figured that she'd rather take her chances on her own. It had clearly gone well for her up to that point.
Hearing Shadower's angry spat made Gila confused. The she-cat tensed up and calmed down at the same time, not knowing how to react. When he mentioned a patrol, the she-cat snorted. Lay in the bushes? How protective. "Fine." Gila snorted, rolling her eyes. She couldn't believe she was listening to him. The gray she cat bounded over to the bush and crawled underneath it, situated herself into a comfortable position where she could still see Shadowfur. She wanted to witness what this 'patrol' was all about.

Shadowfur regained his composure as the patrol approached. The leader, a golden tom, padded forward to stand close to him, his tail lashing urgently. "We picked up signs of intruders coming from this direction. Where are they?" His voice was hostile.
The black tom lashed his tail. "Gone. It was just one." He raised his paw, which by now was covered in Gila's dried blood. "I gave them a piece of my mind. They won't be coming back any time soon."
The golden tom gave him a look. "Are you sure they won't come back? Rogues are sneaky like that."
"Yeah," another cat, a brown she-cat, spat. "You should'a killed 'em! The only good rogue is a dead one!" Her green eyes blazed.
The tom looked sharply at his Clanmate. "Shut up, Dustfur." Turning back to Shadowfur, he added, "Why exactly didn't you kill them? You've never let one go in the past. The last time you came across an outsider, your father had to come out here just to get you to stop slashing at a dead cat."
He snorted. "That was a while ago, Brightleap. And besides, that cat was a SolaceClan apprentice. That's a lot different than some stupid rogue."
"That doesn't answer my question."
"I know it doesn't," he snapped. "The cat could barely walk after I was through with it. It'll probably bleed out, or at least get picked off by some coyote."
Brightleap sniffed. "You'd better hope so, Shadowfur. You know how Littlestar's gonna feel about this."
"Believe me, I'm plenty aware. I in my opinion handled the situation perfectly. There's nothing to worry about. It's gone. It's probably dead by now, honestly."
The DarkClan warrior hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Fine." Motioning to his patrol, he added, "Let's go. We'll check the last part of the border and then head back. I'm tired after a night spent dealing with kits who won't sleep and their uncooperative mother." With that, he and his patrol headed out.
Shadowfur watched them as they went, eyes narrowed. Once they were gone, he turned toward the bush where Gila was hiding. "Come on out, Gila. You must understand what I mean now."
