Oh ho. Sounds like things I've done with series before. I wasn't really on the lookout for things other than Warriors fan fictions at the time though, so I wouldn't have thought to look those up. Pity that there aren't more for that fic you need, right? Well, that's good praise. But also very large mood. I'm rereading Guards! Guards! despite the fact I've read it a lot already. Yeah lol I didn't even realize that people wrote fic for things other than warriors until I was like 14 or 15, which is right around when I read bart the first time. But like I said, they're well-written fanfictions, kudos to the writers for putting in all that time and effort to make free content. If it's a trope you like, go for it. I'm just picky and I'm committed to the idea of Kitty/Nathaniel, if they happen at all, being an incredibly awkward snail's pace slowburn xP
That's a Terry Pratchett book, right? He's another author I've been meaning to read for years and years and haven't gotten to yet. Literally own a copy of The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents that I've never touched.

That's about the time I realized it as well, about the time I wrote a chapter of a Beyonders fix-it story. My smaller-me brain was just "Oh wait ... if I can write fan fiction for things other than Warriors ... so can others!" My original impression of fan fiction was mindblowing. I like slowburn in general, honestly. And awkward is really fun too. Yep! That's him! And The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents is good! Not my favorite, but honestly it's one of his that I would reread (watch me struggle to think of a Terry Pratchett book I wouldn't reread).

Mostly I was aware of the...negative connotation fanfiction had? Before I was fully aware of what the full scope of fanfiction was? So I'd mention I wrote fic and people would be like "you write sm*t???" and I would always get miffed like "fanfiction isn't like that!" and then i got into the broader world of fanfiction and realized that....yeah. Fanfic actually can be like that. Oop. I'm not one for strongly diverging AUs tho :/ I usually want the story to be as close to canon as possible in terms of worldbuilding and characterization (obviously if it changes some aspect of the story, I'm reading it cause I wanted that aspect to be changed, but that's related to the plot not the characters/setting). And obviously different people read characters differently but the specific way I perceive Kitty/Nathaniel makes me think slowburn soooo that's what I'm going with lol.
I thiiiink Maurice is one of the first books although I know there's different orders of reading them. Either way, it was the one that caught my eye at the library sale so I grabbed it. I've read a chunk of Good Omens and I did enjoy that one (it's with Gaiman but I HAVE read several of his works so I can tell where it diverges from Gaiman's tone and ergo what Pratchett probably brought to it) so I feel like I'd like the rest of his books but I'm just such a slow reader *facepalm*

I honestly was completely unaware of that connotation for yeeeeeeeears, so by the time I did I just ... wasn't that surprised? Mostly because I'd already figured the Warriors Fan Fiction section was a lot more "safe" than what was the wider fic world. So I just ended up having a lot of fan fictions anyway. XD That is a very valid point! I've read a lot of different fan fictions in my life. Very literally 80% out of all of the WFF for example. So I've certainly read all sorts and how people can do each thing. In that manner, I do know that I usually like similar to you, but I am fine with a slow developed divergence from canon. Nope! The first book in the Discworld universe is the Color of Magic, but no one does (or should) start there. Maurice was the first YA book in the series that was ever written. Most of the rest are Adult Fiction (I read them when I hadn't even hit teenhood yet, however). Maurice is a good starting place though! You can read the books in any order, but the later ones are more representative of what his work looks like. (You say that ... but they have a surprisingly similar tone to my mind and apparently they couldn't even tell you which bits were whose. Other than the one instance of the F-word. XD That's Gaiman all the way.)

Oof I used to read a ton of warriors fic but once I stopped reading the series I kinda stopped reading/writing fic for it as well. These days I kinda check out fic based on whatever I'm currently into. Haven't written anything but original fiction in years actually so returning to fanfiction has been weird.
I've been recced The Hogfather a couple of times as well, which I believe is Discworld as well (or like an arc within the Discworld series? I don't even know). One day I'll check it out. I'm not saying I can necessarily tell who wrote which section (I really can't), but there's ideas present throughout where I think "Oh that was probably something Gaiman introduced" even if Pratchett may have continued writing about it in further chapters. It's kind of like....I've read Gaiman books and Good Omens isn't exactly what I'd expect from him given the concepts and tones of his other works. So the concepts and tones I get from Good Omens that aren't familiar to me are probably Pratchett's doing. Or they might not be, Gaiman really may have just approached things from a different angle for this particular book. I guess I'll find out whenever I finally read a Pratchett book.

The Seven Realms series and it's sequel series The Shattered Realms are pretty tight, they are the only series other than Warriors that I've actually taken time to read, cross reference with maps in the books, etc.
At least recently that is, I do the same with The Witcher books but I don't own the whole series yet

What's the Seven Realms series about?

Seven Realms follows two characters, a thief boy turned wizard (Han Alister) and a princess (Raisa ana'Marianna) defending her right to the throne of the kingdom the series takes place in. It's a really solid high fantasy series, that imho gives Game of Thrones a run for it's money (but that's just my opinion). It's got a bit of romance mixed in too. The author's name is Cinda Williams Chima, and just about everything she writes is super solid no matter the genre.
I don't really want to spoil anything so the description is kinda vague on purpose lol
edit: spelling

When someone likes your fic? Oooooo. The feeling that some other rare fan out there has found your work in the abyss ... I write fan fiction for Morganville Vampires, Doctor Who, Marvel, and Warriors. Guess which is the one no knows about? The Hogfather is really good! My personal favorite is Thud! though. The Hogfather is indeed Discworld (it is also an arc within the Discword. The arc is determined on who the main character is. In this case, that arc is "Death" and in this case it's Susan who is one of the primary character.) The Hogfather is what got me into Discworld. My dad found the movie for it and small me was fascinated with it. And also highly convinced it must have been miss-shelved in the adult section (I wasn't even 13 at the time). Also at the time I deeply did not like half the Discworld books (The "Watch" arc and the "arc none of the fans can decide a name on or really properly determine what books belong there" were the two I didn't care for at the time.) So I started with all the books in "Rincewind" arc, "Witches" arc, and "Death" arc. Then several years later I got around to reading the others - my favorites have to be in the "Watch" arc these days, though that's scary hard to decide. Ah yes. Look at this wall of text. Special interest activated? Ahhh! Yeah, yeah, that makes sense. I can see how that's possible!

Pfft. That's fair. I had/have a vampire special interest, so it's a prerequisite that I've read most books where they appear. Is the Great Library good? I just bought the first book a couple days ago. Oh ho, yes indeed! The sword. :3 Heh heh heh heh. No worries! They aren't going anywhere and they're certainly not required to all be read or even read in order. I ... never read them in order. I was all over the place.

I really do love the Great Library, one of my favorite YA series tbh (in retrospect, maybe i should give MV a shot just cause I love GL so if the writer's good ¯\_(ツ)_/¯), I'm a sucker for interesting alternate history stories (hence Bartimaeus lol), so the whole Alexandria-as-a-global-power thing was a draw but then also just the characters are really fun, and there's some pretty serious moments as well (there's this one scene in the first book that really caught me about the series and i can't stop thinking about it even now years late but AGH spoilers). The alchemy inspiration in the magic system is nice too.
Of course, I've only read 3 books, so I shouldn't give it my stamp of approval yet, but from the three I've read I've really enjoyed it. I just waited so long between reading 3 and 4 coming out that I need to reread before I continue and haven't had the time to put into binging a whole five book series in a w h i l e

Oh ho. So there's alchemy inspiration in GL too? Ha ha ha. I actually just got the first book! It came in yesterday! So I'm super excited to start it. And a couple other Rachel Caine books that I got. It was so sad to hear about her situation. She's my favorite author and I'm very sad. //cough// But yeah! Alternate timelines are just so exciting! I love it a lot! XD Oh ho. I remember that. Me, rereading Michael Scott's the Alchemyst and associated books all over again. And I STILL haven't read book three, despite rereading book 1 and 2.

I didn't actually know she had cancer until I read this and looked her up to see what the 'situation' was :/ that's awful.
The Alchemyst! Yet another book that's been on my tbr for years. I like alchemy based fantasy as well (actually writing an alchemy based fantasy rn lol). But yeah, from what I remember the wildfire/information transfer system/space manipulation/automata in GL are all alchemy based but it's not super detailed or historical. In universe it's something people have to be born with the talent for? ergo more like magic than alchemy, which is arguably intended to be more like a science that anyone can learn?

Yeah. The series is very interesting thus far. It certainly inspired me to write about some alchemists. I too am writing an alchemy based fantasy story. cx Heh heh! Yeah, sounds about right. It's still pretty fun to see the very interesting way that alchemy is shown, though it is very close to magic. I finished Titus Andronicus and I'm almost done with Dracula.

So I have to walk past the college bookstore at least four times a week (I mean, I don't have to, but I'm not going to walk around it just to avoid it, you know?). It is way too tempting. Every time I go in there to pick up textbooks it takes so much for me not to leave with other books too. Anyways, that is my quick quip for the week. They don't even have a great selection (what to expect from a college bookstore, really), but my goodness there are a few books they have that I would love to pick up. I'm forcing myself not too until I finish everything I already have, but that is so hard.
