they don’t even question it at this point also brother of the award goes to the guy who shoved his sister off to be eaten because she’s annoying ——
Hyeon-u had never thought she’d be one to make a deal with a demon, or at least be associated with the deal making process. She had never needed help from one of those lesser spirits, and in a way it pained her to be needing their help now, but she had been the one to suggest this. She had been the one to openly give the demon a chance. It was new to her, but she just couldn’t get over the fact that something about Lishan had grabbed her attention. The horned woman seemed honest about her reasonings and her answers, and she had done a rather well job with the music. The bar desperately needed new workers, and if this was what they needed to do to accomplish it, then Hyeon-u might just have to swallow her pride and admit to needing the assistance of demons.
The vixen remained silent as Jiyeong and Lishan exchanged their words to one another. She kept a narrowed gaze on the other woman, alert and attentive to any subtle movements she might make. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, even as she watched Lishan take her leave with one of the menu items for the night.
Once the demon had her prey, the drunk woman up on Lishan’s arm like some needy cat, and was gone, Hyeon-u turned to give Jiyeong a side glance. ”First the hired to murder business and now working with demons. What else is going to be thrown at us?” A lot of unexpected things had happened as of late, and Hyeon-u had always heard these things came in threes. Unless losing staff members counted as one of those things, they still had one more event to go through before they reached three, and Hyeon-u hoped it was a surprise that would lift them up rather than tear them down.

Everything is normal, nobody bothers him right? I mean iconic, he deserves the award
----
Honestly, he felt as though he'd been the one to open the gateway to hiring a lesser spirit. After all, he'd openly considered the concept, thusly putting the idea into the open. A part felt as though if he had kept the thought to himself, removing the demon wouldn't have been a question. Or maybe it would have regardless - after all, her presence tonight had been extremely convenient, and he'd be lying if he said having the help hadn't been nice. Besides, she had a good spirit about her, and despite not innately knowing if she was lying like some creatures had the ability to do, he couldn't find any tells as she spoke. Her eyes didn't dart, no nervous posture, and her voice was level. Maybe a little desperate, but level. Even as she walked away with what was once his meal, he couldn't find anything that indicated to him something would immediately go wrong.
"I don't know, but I hope the next large event is pleasant," Jiyeong muttered, eyes turning to his companion as he heard the door close. They couldn't handle another stressor, it just wouldn't end well. Taking on a demon, even temporarily as it stood, was more than enough for him at the current moment. There was a long pause before he finally spoke up again. "What do you think of her?" He needed to know. He could typically nitpick a demon to hell and back, while he could based on her sheer species, there was nothing else that readily presented to him. Nothing wrong he could pick at. It almost bothered the fox that he couldn't find anything that was enough for him to outright deny her.

Just, what a good brother also, did you still wanna do the cinnamon roll x jiyeong thing -----
She knew they would share the same sentiments on the next even being a good one. They couldn’t handle anything else that would press on them in a negative manner and cause them anymore stress. Hyeon-u was at her breaking point by now, and she knew Jiyeong had to be as well. Then there were the other workers that had actually stuck around, the workers that were stretched thin as it was even on a slow night at the bar. Things weren’t exactly looking up for them, and Hyeon-u wasn’t pleased with that at all. Then came in this demon, working the soundboard without a problem to it. She was desperate, but Hyeon-u hadn’t caught her stumbling over false words. Perhaps she was truthful. Hyeon-u could only hope.
The vixen remained silent for a moment even after Jiyeong had posed his question. What did she think of Lishan? Demons had never been the type that Hyeon-u would associate herself with, and if she found herself around them she’d either ignore them or show them not to mess with somebody of her strength and power. She had never been one to think twice about a demon, but now… Now she didn’t really know what to think of Lishan.
A low sigh was the first thing that broke her silence. ”I never thought I’d say this, but I think she can be trusted. And she did do a good job with the music tonight.” What point in her long existence had she come to that she was complimenting demons and even considering working with them? ”I won’t give any final judgement until the trial is up, though,” she pointed out, making it clear that she was going to watch the demon like a hawk in the next few days and make sure nothing happened that would cost them more than they wanted to lose.

the best brother, some might say mmm yes cause I just want an emotionally confused jiyeong he's too powerful when he's calm
----
Another negative event would push him far past breaking. He'd have an absolute shift in being that likely wouldn't end well for the public. He'd abandon the bar on a whim, simply leave and not come back just to avoid the stress of it. Sure, it came with a steady food supply, but at what cost? He left feeling exhausted no matter what he did, and came back with just enough energy for the night. Though, part of the problem was covering empty spaces. But here was this demon woman, openly offering herself as what she called the most trainable demon a person could meet.
So when Hyeon-u finally answered him, the fox found himself nodding slowly. She was right, she'd done rather well with the music and it had made the night a lot easier on everyone. "She did... It'll be interesting to have her around should she make it through these three days." He'd never worked with a demon. It was something he made a point of not doing. Not only could he handle himself, but he didn't have time to clean up after another creature. Besides, he just never had a reason to do so. It would be an adjustment, but knowing what made her this way would be interesting to him.
For now, though, he still had things to attend to. "Go eat - I'll clean up the bars tonight." Jiyeon didn't wait for an answer. Rather, he pivoted and started for the kitchen first. Everyone needed to eat, and he didn't particularly care what they were doing if they were low on energy. So, he'd tell them their meals were waiting before he got started.

p e r f e c t which i might have an idea for this cinnamon roll, but you can totally tell me no if it doesn't work -----
Hyeon-u would give the demon the benefit of the doubt for now. Maybe she could survive these next three days, but Hyeon-u wasn't planning on making it easy. She wouldn't do anything to put any part of the bar in danger, but she was going to watch every single moment Lishan made if she could between her own tasks. Anything out of line and it wouldn't look good for Lishan, that was for sure.
It wasn't long until she was dismissed. Hyeon-u merely nodded at his words, not sticking around for any longer than she needed to. If Jiyeong wanted to do the cleaning tonight, then she'd let him. As Jiyeong turned to walk away, she did the same just in the opposite direction to where they had taken their victims for the night to meet a rather traumatic end.

Three days had come and gone with ease. It was an ease that was facilitated by another set of hands that seemed keen on doing their job rather well. There had been no slip ups, and over the course of the past few days, the gumiho had found that she spoke the truth. She was an oddly trainable demon. It seemed that as long as she saw how something was done, she could replicate it with ease. She was also strangely eager to learn, though he supposed some people were just like that. Still, the energy was akin to a hound he'd met once. He'd also found that she would do well as a bouncer if she wished it, though she seemed more attached to the soundboard. It had quickly became apparent to him that she'd been good at her job as a guard, though he had begun to wonder what type.
He had begun to consider that she was a hell hound, though they were rare. Those types of demons were typically products of two of the seven deadly sins, however hounds could also be born of typical demons. The latter, however, made for better domestic companions. The former were powerful and hard to obtain, but were essentially made to work no matter the combination of sin. He'd begun to wonder if that was what made her so valuable, however didn't have time to dwell on it. It was the fourth day, and just as soon as he walked in, she was walking up to him.
After finally eating the first night she had stayed, she'd regained her strength as well as her ethereal human appearance that both demons and angels were known for. Though, it was worth noting that she was only five feet and four inches tall, she was still a force to be reckoned with. A few patrons had learned that her second night on the job when they decided to invite themselves into her space. She'd personally removed them.
"Jiyeong, it's been three days. More importantly nobody broke in while the place was closed, but it's been three days." She paused, looking up at him. He was much taller than she, but that meant nothing to her. She wasn't above starting a fight to get what she wanted, and what she wanted was to stay.
The fox nodded, running a hand through his hair. "I know, and we had a deal. Congratulations, you get to stay." The demon was almost immediately bouncing with excitement as this was clearly what she wanted to hear. She didn't stick around for long, walking off to do... whatever. She knew what she needed to get done by now. Turning, Jiyeong quickly found himself seeking out Hyeon-u at the bar.
"Hyeon-u, what are the chances we've taken in a hound?"

that is a very valid reason to not download it -----
When you were a creature that had seen thousands and thousands of years, three days felt like only seconds. Even while she was used to days going by ridiculously fast, these last three days had gone by even quicker than she was used to. It literally felt like she hadn’t been given enough time to even blink before the trial period was over with, and during those quick three days her ever watchful observations on Lishan had proved only one thing - the demon could stay. It was impressive to say the least. This would be the first time anything outside a gumiho had been allowed to work at the Fox’s Den. It wasn’t going to be an interesting adjustment to make, but Lishan had proven more than useful, and she had proven that she could follow the foxs’ rules. Those two things alone showed she was qualified, and they had given her their word. Three days and she could stay. If anybody didn’t like it then they’d have to go through Hyeon-u and Jiyeong.
Now that the three days were up, it was no surprise that Jiyeong had come to seek Hyeon-u out. As soon as she noticed the other fox heading her way, she looked up with her amber gaze, acknowledging him with a quick look. She had expected a wide variety of questions or comments coming from him, but the one thing he did ask was not anything Hyeon-u had expected.
”A hound?” She asked, her surprise at his question obvious. A hound. If Lishan was one then that meant they really did have a special demon in their ranks, and that would explain why she was so important. Hyeon-u had figured out Lishan was no ordinary demon, but the thought of her being a hound hadn’t crossed her mind for some reason or another. Probably because of just how rare they were. Though the more she thought about it now that Jiyeong had brought the idea up, she couldn’t help but truly consider that maybe his assumptions were not without good reason.
She pondered on his question a moment longer before giving an answer. ”The chances are low, but she does seem hound-ish now that you’ve brought it up,” the vixen replied steadily. ”It actually explains quite a bit.” Hyeon-u had thought about what kind of demon Lishan was from time to time, but none had ever quite fit. Now a hound...she could see it. She could see Lishan being a hound more than she could see her as any other type of demon she had thought of to date.

It’s honestly wild cause I used to use it all the time and now I just don’t??
——
His others questions had become less important in light of what had the potential to be a ray of light on the demon’s identity. Hounds were heavily sought after, and without knowing what kind of demon the man she’d worked for was, there was no telling what he would do to get her back. Still, if this was true, having a hound was a great achievement. They were ridiculously loyal and typically didn’t require much besides the basics and proper attention now and then. Well, they varied in personality, but this was the extent of his knowledge on them. Based on the surprised on his companion face, it seemed they shared the same sentiment on the idea. It was something he hadn’t really considered until yesterday when she’d growled. Not quite liken a demon, but something else entirely. It had been an interesting sound, though he didn’t say anything. She’d been rather busy fending off some drunkard.
When she answered, Jiyeong nodded slowly. “If she is, it makes sense as to why she refused to say anything about it.” Gaze drifting over to the woman who was setting up for the night, happy as could be. She’d certainly reacted like an excited dog when she confirmed that she would be staying. “I supposed it’ll have to come out eventually. Or we could question her. After all, since she gets to stay I think we should at least get to know, don’t you?”

that's completely fair, i used it a lot more when i was still in college tbh -----
If they had a hell hound on their side then things were certainly about to get interesting. They were very rare to come by, and while still lesser demons, they made for wonderful companions and whatever else they were asked to do. Perhaps allowing Lishan to stay was a better decision than they had originally thought. Along with that it would certainly be interesting to learn more about her and what exactly she was capable of.
"I say we question her," Hyeon-u responded with ease. She saw no reason to just wait around and see what the demon would say. What if she never brought it up? And they did deserve to know what she really was; she was one of their workers now, and knowing what all she was capable of was pretty necessary. "There's no sense in waiting around," she added with a shrug. Besides, she was pretty curious to learn the truth, and even more curious to see if Lishan would even tell them the truth outright. Hyeon-u didn't think she would withhold the information, but getting it out still might take just a little more effort than usual.

That’s p fair - once I got Microsoft office again I just stopped using it all together cause oof
——
Questioning her the answer he’d been hoping to get. Truth be told, he would’ve done it regardless, but having the other there was easier than having to relay information. They had about ten minutes, so he turned, looking to the soundboard. ”Lishan, would you join us for a moment?” He didn’t bother raising his voice over the music she seemed to be testing. Her hearing seemed to be better than most, and the way she glanced up only proved his point. With one last adjustment to a few knobs, the demon was quickly on her way over. She looked expectant, likely assuming they had some sort of task for her. Eager to work... regardless, when she was close enough he simply eyed her for a moment. Demons were interesting - the perfect looking human visage, the ideal beauty standard. The thing humans liked to strive for despite knowing it would be unattainable. They blended in so well and yet they stood out with a mischievous charm to them.
”What’s up?” She had expected to be left alone while setting up to open. If she knew her times there was only ten minutes before the doors got unlocked and she liked to have the music going at least three minutes before that. Still, if they needed her for something then she supposed she had to do it. They did own the place, after all, and they didn’t have to let her stay.
”What sort of demon are you?”
It wasn’t the question she had expected, and it wasn’t really one she was prepared to answer. Honestly, there could be a lot of things hidden in this question. They could be asking her specialization, though not all demons had one. They could be asking her origin, her ranking, or the one thing she was hoping they weren’t referring to. Eyebrows furrowed slightly, she frowned a little. Right, she had to give some form of an answer, she couldn’t just stand here wandering what exactly was being asked forever. ”I’m wrath and lust demon,” Lishan responded, silently hoping that was all they wanted. It would be nice to be valued for her skills rather than her simple existence. Besides, what she said wasn’t a lie. That’s what she was, a spawn of the two sins directly.
Jiyeong didn’t respond, though he raised an eyebrow at her answer. It didn’t seem she was lying, though it wasn’t enough for him. He wanted a more detailed answer. He wanted an answer to the question that he didn’t verbalize. Casting a sidelong glance to the vixen beside him, he mused, ”Hyeon-u, how do you feel about her answer?”

That is also completely fair, no need for two whole word processors -----
Hyeon-u would be lying if she said she wasn’t curious about this demon they had hired. From the start she had been rather curious about Lishan, and a part of her wanted to know the creature more than she already did, and not just in the sense of wanting to know who she was to make sure she was qualified for the job she had been given. The gumiho was curious about the demon, but until the whole initial process of figuring out what Lishan really was on the more wanting to know because of business aspect was over, the fox spirit was going to keep things as professional as she could.
She stayed silent for the most part, watching as the scene unfolded with Jiyeong calling the demon over and just how easily she had been able to pick up that she had been called. And besides, they didn’t really have the extra time for Hyeon-u to throw in anything more than they needed. Not that she had anything much to add to what Jiyeong was going to ask in the first place, and surely that shouldn’t take the last ten minutes they had before opening for the night.
From there on everything seemed rather fluid. The question was asked an answer was given. Which, even if the answer explained what Lishan was, it still didn’t feel quite complete. There felt like there was more to all of this, and Hyeon-u wasn’t about to let that slide. Truth or not, it wasn’t the whole truth, and the vixen would like some answers.
Once the question was turned to her, Hyeon-u set a strong stare toward Lishan. ”So a combination of two sins,” she mused, trying to turn the tides and have the fox corner the hound for once. ”Anything beyond that?” She wouldn’t outright ask, not yet. She wanted to see just how far she could push it, to see how easily or how difficult Lishan could be when it came to her answering the question.

Truth be told, she was a little nervous. She wanted to avoid a situation similar to the one she'd just left at all costs, and if that meant lying by omission about exactly what she was then she would. After all, it was in her blood - demon's were the best liars out there. Still, that didn't mean the two standing in front of her would believe her. From what she knew of them, they would know inherently but they were skeptics in a way. They just knew when something wasn't right, which wouldn't fare well for her if she wanted to keep this hidden for a long as possible. Yet, this wouldn't keep her from trying.
So, when Hyeon-u posed another question, her eyes narrowed slightly. Beyond that... Well, no. By technicality, it was the truth. She was a wrath and lust demon; it just so happened to be that these were the components that made her hound. Despite this, the demon knew it still fell into the category of a lie. Sure, it was in her nature, but she now risked being told to leave because she was unwilling to disclose the information. It was something she was willing to do, however, especially since they could only grill her for so long. After all, she could hear the people lining up outside. "Nothing special, I'd say," she answered, knowing she could only go so far with this. She had a feeling they already knew and she wanted to hear it, but she wouldn't give in, not that easily.
He had to admit, her stubbornness was a little amusing. It was interesting to see a demon so unwilling to boast about the power they possessed. While he knew not all demons did, somebody of her standing should be more willing to flaunt it. She could get far with it. Still, it seemed she wasn't going to confess to what she was. "Really? How interesting. Three days ago you said you were of high value."
Lishan's eyes cut up to him once more, realizing she was already in a corner. They just wanted to hear it, get confirmation. Looking at Hyeon-u again, she weighed her options. She personally felt as though this was something that could wait until they were closed. "Are you two going to keep questioning me, or are you going to prep for the crowd outside? We open in four minutes and they sound especially rowdy tonight." Without waiting for an answer, she let herself dissolve into smoke, making quick work of traveling back to her station.

Oof, i hope you fought them off -----
And just like that she had been caught.
An amused smirk pulled at Hyeon-u’s lips when Lishan tried to pull the “I’m not all that special” card. She wanted so badly to say something, wanted to let the demon know she had been caught, but Jiyeong beat her to it. He had put her in the corner as well, knowing full well that she had mentioned being special just three days prior; it had been a big concern of Hyeon-u’s. If the demon was special, then how great of a length would her previous owner go to get her back? Having her here could very well put them in danger of attracting some unwanted attention. In the end it would only be bad for the demon that had come after Lishan. Hyeon-u and Jiyeong could take whatever Lishan’s old owner threw at them and come out victorious. The real problem was just the fact that they’d be given attention they didn’t want. It could be handled, but it wasn’t appreciated all the same.
That amused smirk was wiped off her face the moment Lishan dissipated into smoke and vanished. A low growl built inside the vixen’s throat, but she swallowed it down. There was no sense in getting worked up over the obvious avoidance of answering a question right now. Lishan was right. People were lining up outside, and from the sound of it they were rowdier than usual. They could worry about getting an answer from their newest employee later.
Even still, she turned to Jiyeong, the annoyance apparent in her amber eyes. ”She won’t be able to avoid answering us for long, but I suppose we do need to get ready now. I have a feeling we’ll be kept on our toes tonight.”

i did - i was victorious
------
If he could've grabbed her, he would've. There was no use in trying to bring her back into a physical form as the lack of success would only irritate him further. No, it seemed she wanted to play the game of avoidance, though it wasn't a game that would last long. He'd make sure of it. The low growl that seemed to be cut short beside him assured the gumiho that his companion shared the sentiment. When she spoke up, he gave a slight nod, watching as the demon materialized behind the soundboard. "Most likely... We'll catch her after dinner, then," He murmured, looking at her before glancing at the doors. It would be quite the night.
By the time they opened, Jiyeong had taken up his place at the island and the music was already set to Lishan's liking. The groups of people that quickly filled the empty space were honestly a bit more energetic than he had expected. Within the opening hour there'd nearly been three fights, one of which the demon took care of, while the other two seemed to resolve themselves. As the night carried on, she had brought a couple up behind the equipment with her. One was meant for dinner, but the other three, however, were friends of hers. Well, fellow escapees was more like it. The spoke for a long time as her fingers flitted over the controls. If she got to stay, they didn't see why they couldn't.
She understood the idea, and gave the only advice she could think of. "Just start working and I'll take care of the rest." It was a bold move, sure, but two of them would make better bouncers than herself, and the third would be able to help her when she ventured off to secure a better meal for everyone.
