“There’s only so much teaching we can give them with everything we are already tasked with.” Roman said, “when I was younger though, my father used to give me a ride on his horse late at night to tell me about his day and the lessons he himself learned recently. He also told me many stories.” Roman said, “you know he can still ride a horse? I watched him do it with a trainer yesterday from afar. He’s good despite having lost his vision.”
Dakota smiled as he watched his friend branch out a little. He talked with the groups, laughing with the others as they told stories. Uma on the other hand, was content just sitting aside, watching intently from afar.

Alma smiled as Roman mentioned his father, always happy to hear about his family. Nice people, actually. When he spoke of the other day, she blinked and said "Really now? It's good he's still able to do things like that."
Nim stayed by Dakota for the most part, though still socialized just fine. He actually looked to be doing quite well. Olgrin was as well, but those who knew him knew that he was only conversing with such mortals to find out things. He was smooth about it though.

Roman shrugged, “he didn’t go far, and he will never be able to ride out in public because he’d trample someone. But at least he was able to guide the horse around with little to no issues.” He said.
After a while, Dakota walked over to Uma for a brief second, offering her a drink. The woman accepted it, sipping it a little. Dakota wouldn’t push her to be social, as he knew she normally was very social. Tonight was different though for some reason.

Alma nodded. "Still, it's good he's still trying things like that." She then sniffed. "I remember my first riding lesson. The horse nearly trampled me and all my elder brother did was laugh while papa calmed the horse." She smiled fondly at the memory though.
Nim decided not to drink. Not with his friends around anyway. Settling for something with no alcohol, he barely got a sip in before his ears perked, angling and swiveling. "Someone broke the Godsbow." The sacred artifact of the Waterway family, and one of the five pillars of the protective barrier around Bryghtwood.

Roman nodded, “riding was like, the one think that I was naturally good at. Everything else took many hours of hard and frustrating work.” He said, “especially the academics part of my training.” He said with a small laugh.
Both Dakota and Uma woke up, Dakota almost choking on his drink. Uma immediately looked to Olgrin, but didn’t say anything because gods she hoped it wasn’t him. But she had that gut feeling.

Alma smiled in amusement. "Academics were more my thing, but the social part of being a noble was a little more difficult. I'd hide in the crowds of the Arena when my mother wanted me to wear dresses and go to gatherings." She didn't mind cleaning up, but Alma didn't wear dresses. The last time she had was when she married Roman, and that was a ways back.
Olgrin had been out of earshot at the moment, speaking with some woman about some petty subject or other. Nim's ear twitched as he said "It could've been anything really." Okay, not really. It was just odd to have any of the five relics just break after generations of maintaining them.

Roman nodded a little, “so you’re the brains and I’m the bronze. That’s why we work so well together. I used to train along with the other trainees as well as with a the captain alone. That’s how I gained so many friends in what’s now the royal guard and army. I entrusted some of my closest friends to guard you when you first came. And ones that I knew wouldn’t steal you away.” Roman explained. “And it’s perfectly fine that you don’t wear dresses. I like a woman in uniform.”
Uma shot Nim a look before gazing back out the crowd blankly, though her eyes showed her fury, “who else could it have been? The Waterways are stronger than the other colonies, no one would willingly go and break their most scarred object. And the dragons sure didn’t do it with their new hatchling. They wouldn’t have been so calm when we visited. And I would know if it were one of you.” Uma then stood, “we’re done here. We’re sticking around to make sure he or whoever is doing his dirty work doesn’t break anything else. I just don’t want to see his face anymore. Unless you want me to try beating him to the ground.” Uma growled. She had rarely gotten this worked up.
Dakota looked to Nim, then to Uma, “Uma. Take a breath.” He said gently while putting a hand on her back.
Uma turned and slapped his hand away. She then turned and simply left.

Alma snickered. "I feel so special." Well, she did the moment Roman started showing interest in her. The memories of when they first met made her smile fondly. "I remember being so nervous when we first met, mainly cause I'd known you were the prince before." Even though she hadn't been some lowly peasant, she'd still been cautious.
Nim blinked slowly before studying Uma. She spoke of stopping something very near inevitable, but that was something he simply wouldn't disclose with either of his friends. Never once did he disclose future events with anyone actually. He studied Olgrin, who watched Uma leave with a confused expression before walking over and asking "What's up with her?" Nim hummed, saying "The Godsbow has been broken." Olgrin arched a brow before saying "So, I assume you're all going to check on it?"

“You aren’t nervous anymore, right?” He asked with a worried expression. Though, ha had to admit she made him nervous sometimes when he brought her to balls and such. He just wanted to meet her standards, and give her only the best.
Dakota nodded, “we probably should.. but we don’t exactly trust leaving you alone so close to the kingdom as well.” Dakota felt personally connected to the humans at this point, and he knew things would go up in arms if anything happened.

Alma chuckled. "No, not now. Just when we first got together really. I know I counted as a noble and all, but I was a little afraid that I wouldn't reach the standards of your parents, and especially you." She first figured that a prince would be wary of anything less than a princess or something.
Olgrin scoffed. "It is not your place to babysit me. Now, out of spite really, I'm leaving." He smirked before, well, disappearing. One moment he was there, and the other he wasn't. It seemed that no one noticed this either. Nim blinked once before looking to Dakota and saying gently "Let's just go check on the Waterways, hm? Maybe Uma is already there."

“Oh please. You’ve impressed me since day one.” Roman said with a small smile. He then looked up as they entered the kingdom wagon.
Uma was in fact, already at the waterways. She patiently waited for Dakota and Nim as she searched for answers. Dakota stepped aside from the public eye before disappearing towards the Waterways, grumbling something under his breath before he did.

Alma smiled brightly at that. "Well, I'm glad." A part of her when they first met always felt like she wasn't good enough. Looking up, she smiled again as they reached home.
Nim followed suit, just porting there, gone in the blink of an eye. Getting to the land, he was once again a tiger. The otters were scrambling around, but they paused upon seeing the Guides, the main indication being Nim. The otters slowly began to walk over to get a look, as if unsure of what they were seeing.

Roman kept his gaze forward and common folk watched them pass. He only glanced over and offered a small smile to a group of kids who scrambled out of the two horses’ way. Upon reaching the castle again Roman sighed, leading his horse back to the stables for a stable boy to take over. He then helped Alma off of her horse.
Dakota was quick to back Nim up, soaring down from a branch to land on his back, making sure not to hurt him with his sharp talons. Uma looked on as the other two took their natural forms and turned as well. Going over to join her partners.

Alma thanked Roman before walking back with him. Once inside the castle, she watched as they were almost immediately met with their council, probably to heckle Roman for leaving. Respectfully of course.
Nim just studied the otters, who stared in awe. One of them stepped forward, taking a knee and saying "Hail, Godbeasts. I assume you're here about the bow..." The others bowed too, immediately wanting to show their respect.

Roman sighed, paying them no mind for a moment to kiss his wife goodbye for now. He then turned and addressed the men and women, beginning to walk again.’
Uma nodded slightly, “yes. We just got word that it has been broken.” She said her usual smooth accent. She was hiding her rage well now.

The otters nodded a little, and the lead one said "Well, yes... Lof broke it, I don't know why." He took them over to where they kept the weapon, in a place only the otters had access to. A small enclosure, the broke bow laid on a stone alter, with a other otter laying on the ground nearby, an arrow sticking out of his chest. "He didn't seem himself, and he hurt my grandpa Noctus, who was watching over the shrine this evening."

“I am very sorry to hear that.” Uma said to the otter as Dakota flew over to the body, looking him over briefly before, closing his eyes as if in thought. He then let out a soft frustrated sigh like churr before returning to the group to examine the broke artifact. “Did it almost seem like he was being controlled by another being?” He asked the otter, “or just like he had gone mad?”

The otter Meelo shook his head. "No... Noctus said that Lof just kept insisting he see the bow, but no one besides the one on watch can even go near it in most cases. All Waterways know this. Noctus wouldn't let him, and Lof stabbed him him. I heard the commotion, ran over and shot him just as he broke the bow." He looked hopeful as he asked "Can you just... fix it?" Nim's whiskers twitched as he said "No." They could, but they couldn't come to the rescue every time.

Uma looked to Nim before sighing, “I’m sorry, but we entrusted you to look after the bow and keep it safe.. now something has caused one of your people to break it.. our top concern now is finding out who orchestrated this all. That way we can protect the other artifacts.”

The otters honestly didn't know what to do, and Nim suggested "We can just speak with Lof. Summon his spectre and see what it has to say." After all, the culprit was the one who knew the most. Nim looked toward the others too see what they thought.

Dakota looked to Uma and Nim. Uma then simply nodded. “That would be smart.” She said, “I just hope my suspicions are wrong...”

Nim just flicked an ear. There wasn't anything at first, but then he looked over to see a wispy form of an otter. The otter looked around in a confused manner, as if unsure why he was there. The other otters jumped a little, watching curiously as the spectre squinted slightly as he asked "... why am I back here?"

“Because we need answers.” Dakota said, “why did you break the bow?” He said while focusing on the creature. He wanted to just have this whole thing resolved, but he knew it wouldn’t be that easy.

Lof snorted. "Because I wanted to." Nim just studied the otter, whiskers twitching. "Now, leave me be. I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to be here." He looked around again, not even sparing his family a glance.

Dakota’s feathers fluffed up, “you will be punished in your after life for this.” He said, faint lines of his tattoos glowing turquoise through his feathers.

Lof snorted. "My life doesn't matter anymore anyway, as soon as cousin Meelo shot me. Plus, I did what I had to do, and that was that. Now we just have to wait for the others."

“Damn it.” Uma said softly. She looked to Nim and Dakota, who are we kidding? This has his name written all over it. He never agreed to our ways, and this is his plan to reshape our work.

Nim just stared at his friends. All we can do is try to slow the process. He has been planning for who knows how long. He then studied Lof. "What else do you know?" The otter huffed, saying "Nothing, probably for this exact reason."
