A knife moved up from the ground, brushing past strands of grass and landing with ease in the man’s hand. His first thought was, he means to kill me, right here in public. Followed by another, much less accusatory comment and one that was all wonder: what strange things magic can do. He hadn’t known that the man was a magic user at all. In fact, he didn’t know if there were any others among their small group who could do such things and wasn’t even really all that aware that Atlas might pose a threat to said magic users.
He was, for all that mattered, a clueless and naive young prince.
“How fascinating,” he said, in slight awe, while Eldred took the role of chastising the man for his reckless show of skill. He clasped his hands together, a light in his eyes so bright that it could have outshone the sun, the moon and all the stars. While he was excited, his voice was quiet with pure awe. “Never you fret, I think that’s a wonderful talent. My parents didn’t like it, but I used to steal away their forbidden books in the middle of the night.”
Not good to admit that with Eldred standing right there, he supposed. “Er, I mean, I most certainly have never broken into the library after you’ve headed to bed for the night, Eldred. No, never. I wouldn’t dare.”
Magic was a secret passion of his. Not that he had any talent for it, of course, for he never would have had the chance to attempt anything remotely magical in nature. Yet even so, that never prevented him from studying it with an intense interest that rivaled a scholar’s thirst for indefinite knowledge. Often, Zahavi liked to steal books of magic from the restricted part of the family library for his own personal reading. And Eldred himself was a magic user, after all.
Whatever the laws of his kingdom might be, he personally didn’t find much reason to hate magic when it could be so very useful and mind boggling.
Zahavi has so many questions to ask, perhaps ones that would actually be answered, when there was a distracting snap. A blurry body plummeted past his vision and into the murky waters of the river, sending ripples across its surface and spraying the air with droplets. He blinked once. Twice.
Did that really happen?
“Eldred,” he said, mystified as he glanced up at the tree. Dead serious, he gave the elderly man a flat look and announced, “That tree has birthed a fully grown woman, who looks an awful lot like one of our companions. How very bizarre.”
——————
Drusilla rose from her tent only after the noise outside became too much to ignore. Her short red hair was unbrushed and ruffled from sleep, but her clothes were straightened and properly tucked in. A plain shirt and loose pants, tucked into thick boots. Typical traveling clothes for a healer on the go, satchel hanging from her side as it always did. No use in moving around without it, what with how chaotic and senseless this group appeared to be. There would be injuries to treat before long.
One could only hope they wouldn’t be serious injuries.
Many of the group seemed to be near the river—Leon, whom she did not trust, the prince and Eldred, and Zach whom she was also iffy about—and as such, that was the spot she avoided. Instead, she chose to join Isabella and Lyra instead. Not only did the seem quieter and less likely to scream in her ear, but they were clearly having a conversation that didn’t seem to be as boggled down with emotions or business. Neither of which Dru wanted to hear at the moment, or ever.
She was a healer, but that didn’t mean she had time to listen to the woes and troubles of every individual within this group.
“I’d prefer to join the two of you this morning,” she said as she approached, hands on her hips. Ladylike, no. Already done with the high energy of the people around her, definitely. She greeted the servant with a polite nod. “Lyra, isn’t it? You work in the palace. Call me Dru. Pleasure to meet you officially.”
Isabella, she gave the same nod to. Neither received a smile and they weren’t going to—she wasn’t a smiley person. Somewhere, there was a loud splash, and she chose to entirely ignore it. “And you’re Isabella. I do my best to remember names,” she hummed.

At Zahavi’s astonished words, and as he explained further about his personal views on magic, Zacharias couldn’t help but smile slightly. Yes, he had severely misjudged the future king based upon his parent’s decisions. He even let himself chuckle slightly at Zahavi’s falter upon mentioning gazing through restricted texts.
The situation may now be under control - simply because of the people in it - but Zach couldn’t help but curse himself. He hadn’t been careful at all, and Eldred was right in his statement about the witch hunter who shared their journey. The man would not have taken Zacharias’ second nature lightly.
That thought scared him. Not Atlas, but the fact that he had retrieved the knife with such little thought… he had to be more careful.
And then he heard a sort of muffled snort, a snap, and subsequently Leon was falling from the sky and into the lake below. Ten out of ten cannonball, even if it had been completely unintentional.
He burst into laughter, unaware that Leon was failing to resurface for a while. When she did resurface, and in a region of much clearer water, Zach laughed harder.
“Were you spying on us?” He asked through jagged breathing, beaming at her glare.
Cause if so, karma.

Leon was soaking wet, water dripping down her heir, soaking her raven locks in a way that almost made them seem brighter, refracting the rising sunlight. She stayed in the water for a moment, her glare loosening to search the trees for Zelos, especially when the prince looked at the tree and said that...well, that comment of his.
Zelos wasn’t noticed, which was good, though her search was interrupted by Zach’s laughing. Her glare pinpointed on him again, this was his fault after all. He must have done something to the tree to sabotage her.
Well, no, his next words dashed that hope. He genuinely seemed surprised, and he didn’t seem worried anymore.
Though, that did bring to mind...the prince, he was accepting towards magic. She glanced at him, her mouth gaping open slightly. Though she quickly closed it, as it was still under the water, and it filled with water. The very idea of a possible fish in her mouth made her sick, so she lifted her nose more so her mouth was out of the waves, ready for a snarky comeback.
Wait, how did she exactly respond to that in an honest manner? She wasn’t up there to spy. She was up there to plan. With Zelos. But...she couldn’t say that. None of them knew about Zelos, not even Zach...but if they accepted him.
She looked up, at Zelos, blinking once, as if trying to inviting him. Though to anyone, it may seem that she was blinking water out of her eyes.
“I wasn’t spying on you. I’ve been there all morning, it’s not my fault your a stupid-“ thief, “That you’re stupid and you can’t look at your surroundings, doesn’t your line of work require you being alert?” She snapped at Zach, before narrowing her eyes, “And why are you laughing? You just outed yourself to the prince. Thank the stars above that it wasn’t Atlas!” She commented, sounding concerned for like, a second, before snapping back into her snark.
It seemed, she realized then, she wasn’t getting back to shore without touching the mud, and the was a disturbing thought that had her refusing to move, eyes wide at the bank.

Zander turned his head to see Leon fall right into a large puddle of water. He blinks a few times before turning his face away to laugh. This was the group chosen by the prince to save his parents. Half of them were children in his eyes. The fate of the rulers and the kingdom itself rested on their shoulders and this is how they were handling things.
Honestly, I may not have to interfere with anything. Zander could already see one of them messing something up. How long until they ran into bandits or got themselves lost because someone burned the map or went in the wrong direction. Zander saw this experience as a mini vacation. He had been dying to get away from the politics and the general stress of everything. What better way to relax than what a bunch of strangers attempt to find a cure for a rare poison? This would be a entertaining tale to tell once he returned to his friends and conspirators.

Leon's predicament was amusing, Zach had to admit, but her rambling just escalated the hilarity. Maybe she had been there for a while, but she was still eavesdropping. And there was no doubt in Zacharias' mind that she had laughed at his predicament, which made the situation all the more hilarious. Karma, indeed.
"I'm not working, am I?" Zach retorted jokingly, bringing a hand to his chest to mock her further. He glanced towards Zahavi upon Leon's next words. What she said was surely true, about how different the moment would be if Atlas were there instead. But he wasn't. And Zach refused to believe that he would've allowed for that to happen in front of the witch hunter.
Besides, he had more pressing problems when it came to the drunkard, who he glanced over to now. Zach wondered how hungover the man was.
"You're right," he said finally, feigning maturity. "It was stupid of me..." His voice trailed off as an idea formed in his head. The waver in her voice did not go unnoticed by Zach. "I didn't mean to concern you so much." She was sensitive to that word, that was for sure. Not the word in particular, but the meaning behind it. Concern meant worry, and worry meant care.
She cared for him.
What a disgusting thought.

At Zahavi’s admission about the library, Eldred sighed.
“If your parents recover, they don’t have to know about that,” Eldred replied “Their Majesties would not take kindly to it. It’s nice that you’re interested in magic but you ought to know that you ought to be very careful. Even for a non-magic user, magic is not to be trifled with. Not to mention the trouble you’d be in if it were anyone but me you’d just admitted that to.”
Eldred remembered when he had been caught, decades ago. He’d been brought before the king and queen by guards, made to kneel before the rulers while the guards called for his execution. He was still amazed that he had survived, but it was clear that the king and queen had seen something in him.
But Eldred heard the crack of a branch and then a splash, watching as Leon hit the water. Zahavi made his little comment, which just made Eldred turn his gaze to the prince.
“Surprisingly enough, Your Highness,” Eldred said drily “I noticed.”
He might be old but he wasn’t going deaf yet. Well, maybe he was. Honestly if he was he wouldn’t know.
Still, he couldn’t help but laugh a little as well at the rather comic scene. It was pretty much impossible not to be at least a little bit amused by the whole thing.
But it was at that moment that Zach and Leon began their childish arguing, which was enough to give Eldred an instant headache. He pinched his nose in exasperation, letting out another sigh. He was sighing a lot these days. Mainly because he was on a trip which consisted heavily of teenagers and honestly he did not have the energy nor the desire to deal with them. He just wanted to do home and read his books in peace.
“Could you two children kindly shut up?” Eldred called out “Let’s just compromise and say you’re both equally stupid.”
If these were the people the king and queen were relying on, Eldred didn’t think much of their chances.

Magic always led to trouble, it seemed, in one way or another. Sadly that was the truth of the world they lived in. “I wouldn’t dream of trying anything myself,” he commented softly. “Nor speaking of it in public.”
One day, he would do as he liked with this kingdom. Perhaps he would lift the laws on magic, as well. Establish his own rules. The council would have an absolute fit and that thought alone was incentive enough to go through with it, to see the looks on their faces. Well, if they didn’t overthrow and behead him first.
“Did you?” Zahavi hummed, entirely disregarding the dry tone in which Eldred was speaking. Hard to believe that anyone would have not noticed the woman fall from the tree, but then again, they’d all been preoccupied with their own conversation. His attention span wasn’t so awful that he couldn’t have assumed that the elderly man saw on his own, but he was easily distracted enough to not care about the small details.
All the goofing around did, in fact, serve a purpose. Albeit one that was more or less unintentional. It distracted the prince from his worries, noticeably lifted his mood and brightened his expressions. Perhaps it was only temporary, but any distraction was a welcomed one.
Raising a single hand to interject into the conversation between Zach and Leon, he added, “The prince does not care. In fact, the prince would like for you to step out of the river so that you and he might join the rest of the group and discuss today’s travel plans.”
Why was he still speaking in the third person? He really ought to stop.

Now, Leon saw herself as a rational, maybe quick witted and rude thief. And Zach knew he too was a thief, of course he wouldn’t admit it. So she just glared at his ‘I don’t work’ comment.
Stupid Zach. Stupid magic old man. Stupid prince.
Did that prince seriously say the tree birthed her? What was she? A nymph? She couldn’t help the dumbfounded expression she had.
She supported herself, wasting no energy in swimming, by simply lifting her self slightly by the waves, not that anyone would notice it. She still moved her limbs to keep up a semblance of swimming, unlike her stupid companion. Though her eye twitched again, sure, Eldred and Zahavi wouldn’t get that little reference of his. She didn’t help her pathetic slap at the water in irritation, “I am not concerned! I could care less what you do!” She almost looked like a bristled cat, eyes wild in irritation. Then Eldred responded, interjecting as if she was some child. For some reason, the old man’s words irked her.
“I mean, at least we’re not one foot in the grave,” wait, shit.
Wrong person, wrong time. Maybe she was equally stupid. Though she stood by those words, because her target switched lanes to the old man rather than the stupid one. Not that she could argue about Zach, but Leon wasn’t stupid, or childish. She was a poised thief and vigilante. Eldred had no clue about her actions, so if he was going to snark at her, she’d fall back at that classical sass.
But then the prince had the audacity to order her to get out of the water. Call it stubbornness, because it was stubbornness, but she huffed out, “I’m sorry, but I rather like it here.” She commented, “And I-“ no, that was stupid, she couldn’t just admit that she didn’t like the fact that there was mud on that bank. The feeling of anything but soft clothing on her skin was a bothersome thought. Of course, nothing was wrong with mud, it was just germ infested and carried insects that carried disease.
It was fine. Honestly!
“I-why are you talking like that?”

A grin crossed the thief's face, one that resembled pure satisfaction towards her words. Not concerned, she said, though her flustered tone told a different story. Zach was about to continue further, too, when Eldred interrupted the quarrel.
And though he hated to admit it, the old man was right. Useless bickering was getting them nowhere, although Zach did notice that the prince's mood had alleviated - albeit slightly - in response to the kunundrum. How often did the boy experience moments like these? Moments fueled by immaturity and ruled by hilarity? Probably never.
Zach scoffed slightly at Leon's response, glancing towards Eldred to judge his reaction. He was surely the eldest of the group, but just how old was he, really? Zach knew stories of certain mages who reached centuries, their longevity fueled by various practices. Dark magic, more often than not. Zach shuddered at the thought. Certainly Leon knew something he didn't.
"Please," Zach added in agreement to Zahavi's words, beckoning for Leon to join them at shore. "We really should be getting a move on if we want this journey to be as swift as everyone's hoping."

(Morning I’m here and writing up a reply
Before I do there are a few things I’m definitely setting in stone with Eldred:
1) he lied to Leon about dark magic; he didn’t specifically set out to study it but he does know it
2) In my opinion he’s a very killable character for me (same for Isabella, though obvs I’d keep one alive) but for him probably not until late in the quest when he’s no longer needed to guide the group. I think if he died it’d be an important symbolic thing of Zahavi having developed as a character and being ready to go on and maybe even rule without Eldred’s guidance. I mean Eldred is dying anyway so he doesn’t care if he dies on the quest or not)

Leon’s words to Eldred were far more accurate than she knew. Though, Eldred supposed he should count his blessings; not that many people got to old age. Of course, once one got past thirty most of the danger of an early death had passed and one could expect to live to their sixties or longer. But not everyone got to that point, certainly the majority of the group had not yet. His illness was not unexpected given his age. Living in the palace as an advisor had been a good way of securing his quality of life, had done a lot to keep him alive this long. But it couldn’t protect him from everything.
He couldn’t help but wonder whether Leon’s words were purely about his age or whether she was trying to tell him in a rather oblique fashion that she’d figured out that he was ill. Surely not. Drusilla would have figured it out before anyone else, he didn’t have to worry until she knew.
“For the sake of your quest, I think you ought to hope I’m not,” Eldred pointed out with a raised eyebrow
He knew he was, but if they got this quest over with quickly, Eldred could be there to see the end of it, though who knows how sick he’d be by that point. Still, that wasn’t anything worth concerning himself with; he wasn’t going to change anything.
But talking of getting the quest over with quickly, Eldred had to agree with the words of Zahavi and Zach. He gave a nod, looking across to Leon in the lake.
“They’re right, we really should get going. And unless you intend to stay there forever you’re going to have to get out of the lake eventually.” Eldred pointed out
They should try and get a move on now, if they ever wanted to get this quest finished. Every second counted for the king and queen back at the palace, so they couldn’t afford to waste time.
(Not great but it’s up)

(The RP: Lighthearted and comedic. Us: So, I was thinking of killing off this character...) (Okay but seriously, I think that makes sense. Leo, 𝓗𝓸𝓷𝓮𝔂 𝓑𝓮𝓮, Hawkeyes258, Sparky, ƤαƖƖαѕ ✧: I know it seems we are moving extremely quickly, but we are about to enter a big part in the RP, and I’m just warning you all that things might move quickly. No matter, though, interactions will always be open and if someone moves on without you, please don’t be insulted. I expect the same out of everyone else. I understand that life is busy, and that’s completely fine, what I am saying is that I want us all to have fun. And the fun is about to really begin. Likely Thursday, or at the latest, Friday, a major event will occur during the journey that will separate the group. One will be put in a dire circumstance(a cave) while the other will remain on land. When this happens, interactions will be full group with the subgroups, which is why I wanted to point this out. No one will intentionally leave anyone behind, and I ask that everyone waits at least two replies(that is, if it’s not just conversation) to respond in more dire circumstances in the RP. For conversation, I don’t honestly care what everyone chooses to do. Essentially, in fights, and in full group interactions where it’s not one characters, let’s say, arguing or talking to another specific character, I ask that you please wait an hour or so, or let a few people reply before you rush the plot along. In this same sense, if someone knows they will be busy, or if they are absent for a long while, I have no issues with the plot continuing. There’s nothing saying that you can’t just join in at any time, as long as it seems a bit natural in the manner. I know, for me, I’ll be gone at times, in these cases, I don’t want the RP held up for me. I want to just clarify too, that I’m not talking about if you have to leave for the night to sleep, or if your going to be gone for a few hours. I’m talking about knowing you’ll be gone for days, or being absent for days. This way, we can prevent the RP from dying. However, if it’s been a few hours, and it’s not a dire plot, I’m fine with the story continuing in minor ways. Please just don’t ignore or forget anyone who is trying to be involved. Other than that, I’m very excited to see what becomes of our ragtag travelers! And I hope everyone prioritizes themselves over this RP. First and foremost, I care about your health and safety. I wanted to re-open this due to the fun I had with it, but to also have an outlet for everyone. If at any time you feel overburdened, or no longer want to participate, I’ll be sad, but understand. No one will be kicked out, and even if the story continues, your character is a large role who is still influencing the actions, and will be rped in a passive manner until you can return. If I am to become absent, for any reason, I ask that the same be done for me. Again, tomorrow(well, later today), or on Friday, the group will continue their journey to the mountains. An accident will lead to a split in our group. In regards to this plot, read the spoiler. When the characters reach the mountain, I’ll post this in an RP comment, but an incident will leave some of the characters in an underground cave, with the others above ground, believing their comrades have died.
We’ll get into specifics closer to this. At most, everyone is allowed one character to fall into the cave, however the cave amount can not surpass half the group (5). You are welcome to keep both characters above ground, though for the following roles, at least one is suggested to be in the cave.
Prince(Zahavi) Guide(Eldred)
The idea is that one is above ground, the other in the cave. Everything else is up to you, and even that’s up to change shall anyone want it to be. TL;DR: An update mentioning RP(wait two replies if in a group, unless in conversation), and upcoming plots(the cave, and the character allowance). Stay healthy and safe! I’ll check in later this morning and kind of start things off if we’re at that point.)

(Okay so it all depends on what feels most natural. I’m happy to have both Eldred and Zahavi in the same group and fall underground, in which case I’ll keep Isabella above ground.
However, if it feels most natural to have Eldred in one group and Zahavi in the other, I’m happy to let Honey have the pick on whether Zahavi’s group is underground or above, and Eldred’s group will take the opposite. Obviously with Isabella, I’d put her in Zahavi’s group XD I think this option makes the most sense to me? Especially since Zahavi gets split from Eldred, which would be a big thing for him not having his guide there.
But yes, I love this group and this rp and I’m very excited to see what happens

”And you,” Isabella responded politely to Lyra’s words about it being a pleasure to meet her
It was nice that there were other girls Isabella’s age on this quest. She wanted people she could talk to; Atlas kept flirting with every girl in a mile radius, Eldred wasn’t exactly friendly, and she barely knew the others anyway. Perhaps Zach or Zahavi would be people she could also talk to, but she wasn’t sure.
“Oh, you’re making breakfast?” Isabella said with a smile “I was just thinking about doing that too, I’d be happy to help.”
She was about to respond to Lyra’s very polite question about meal preferences when another woman approached the group, instantly asserting herself. She introduced herself as Drusilla. Isabella has vaguely remembered her name, but before she introduced herself Isabella had mainly remembered her as the palace healer.
“I am,” she nodded when Drusilla said she was Isabella “it’s a pleasure to meet you.”
Drusilla definitely seemed interesting, which Isabella liked. Both her and Lyra seemed like people you’d want with you on this kind of quest.
“We were just discussing breakfast,” Isabella explained “do you have any preferences on what you’d like to eat this morning?”
She really didn’t mind what they had for breakfast, but it’d be good to know if Drusilla had any thoughts or preferences, otherwise they could be there a long time trying to decide what to make.
(Again not great but I wanted to get something up)

(I am going ahead and replying because I do have some errands, I realized, to run tommorow morning. I have to go to school to drop off scholarship stuff, and it should be quick, but I want to leave this anyways. Please continue without me if you would like, though it should only take me an hour or so :3 to finish mostly everything.)
Leon was drenched, her hair falling from it’s braid that she tended to keep in, and she huffed out stubbornly. Her nose had settled just below the waves one more, small airbubbles popping at the surface as she breathe deeply out in frustration.
Though, her eyes almost seemed to visibly brighten, moving on meant getting out of this situation. It was embaressing, she was supposed to be a poised thief. Parkour and daring stunts, and she fell from a tree due to a laughing fit. “Yes, that would be a good idea,” she agreed, seeming to ignore Eldred’s comment, though she noted the little words in her mind. He hadn’t outright rejected her comment. Maybe he was older than she suspected.
She backpedaled slightly, however, reminding herself of her predicament, “But you see, the mud on that bank was slippery, to the point that it started sinking me into it,” she lied with such a pristine figure, no trace of doubt on her face, nor give away in sight. Though, she was also a bit of an illusionist, and pickpocket too. All it took was a little bit of manipulation, and you had everyone fooled. “I couldn’t get to land in that scenario, as it was like quicksand, so I opted for swimming out while I could, to an area where I could sustain myself without touching to mud.”
It’s not like anyone other than Zach would be stupid enough to test it, and if they did, she could pull a little magic to protect her reputation. She wasn’t about to admit that she was afraid of the germs the mud had like some child. Though she missed some her natural, snarky flare, so she quickly amended it, “As lovely as this journey is, I’d rather not die so early on because we got over eager.” She shrugged then, “And death by suffocating and drowning would be such a drab, I’d rather go in a cool manner, like a fight with a beast,” the lighthearted expression in Zahavi’s eyes caught her off hard for a moment, and she fought off a smile, if she could boost his mood a little, the journey would be less drab, “Or fighting off a stupid enchanted boy with magical powers he doesn’t deserve.”
Such a stupid thing, but she was starting to like the prince, in an almost...what, friendly fashion? He reminded her a lot of her father at times, and if she had a brother, she imagined he would have been an airhead. But that was stupid. This was, well, her enemy. She hadn’t even properly spoke to him, like a normal person should(Okay, she couldn’t really use that as her basis), but the simple act of making the obviously upset boy seem a bit more happy made this journey a bit more bareable.
That still didn’t solve the question of how she was getting out of the water.

Lyra was keen on observing her surroundings. A loud splash confirmed that the younger kids, including the prince, were fooling around, and she softly chuckled at it. She understood such playful times, they helped though the darkness and bleary. The prince had been mature through this scenario to an almost scary degree, and if he could find time to relax, even joke or play with the two other teens his age, then she had no issue with it. She herself had been a shy child, and kept to her work with her father, strongly dedicated, and willing to live up to her mother’s memory. This journey got her a step closer to joining the council like her father, and fulfilling his dreams he never got to live out.
She smiled at Isabella, surprised, but pleasantly so. “That is delightful! I could always use the help, handling princes like Zahavi sure does take a lot of work, and I do miss the maids back at the castle,” she commented, voice pleasantly soft, but with that positive, excited chirp to it.
Drusilla didn’t dampen her lively flame any, she wasn’t an overbearing person by any means. She was that soft, peaceful candle, rather than a whole damn blaze like the teens. It was a positive energy that wasn’t naive, nor was it overbearing. Just a comforting one, and she smiled softly. That was always one of her faults, too trusting towards strangers.
“Drusilla, it’s nice to properly make your acquaintance,” she followed all royal precautions. Even if Drusilla was not a high ranking member in nobility, she was indeed a very important member in the staff of the castle, and as such, Lyra had to be courteous and kind, even if Drusilla hadn’t liked it. One could never be too careful. One wrong move could spell doom.
She remained unspoken after that, deciding to wait and see if Drusilla had a preference, if not, Lyra would just wait until someone in the camp decided on if they wanted to eat or not. And if they didn’t, well, she was sure there would be something along the way, she knew the prince would want to leave as soon as possible, and the longer they stayed, the longer the king and queen suffered.
