This scene was actually one of my favorites out of LS! It was great to see Hollyleaf back again, and to know that she and Leafpool have been spending time together in Starclan. I liked that Leafpool's death actually meant something to the characters (even though we still don't have the story behind it...) and seeing Jayfeather grieve and struggle just felt a lot more human/natural than a lot of other interactions in the past few books have. I thought it was a really great scene to further develop Holly Jay and Leafpool's relationships together, with Jay still being apprehensive and Holly reassuring him that he should get to know Leafpool better as their mother.
I feel like one of Warriors' biggest consistent struggles is with developing its characters and character interactions to feel real and meaningful, and for that reason this felt like a breath of fresh air that I haven't seen often from the books lately. Hopefully we get to see more of this from this arc! I'm really excited for it.

ngl I was wary of this at first as it seemed the erins wanted to just.. ignore the fact squirrelflight raised the three? but it seems like theyre handling it well
not a fan of leafpool at all, kells summed iy up, but its nice to see her and her kits bonding

I've been avoiding this thread because I wanted to have at least one thing that wasn't spoiled.
So....this was.............a crazy ride, man.
Jayfeather, you poor, poor baby. This was an incredibly bittersweet scene, and is honestly my favorite now. It beats out even Sun Shadow's and Needlepaw's scenes for me.
This was just.....heartbreaking. I came close to tears multiple times, and let me tell you it takes a lot to make me cry. I haven't felt this kind of bittersweet writing in Warriors since Gray Wing's death in Path of Stars. There were so many good quotes in this, and as everyone pointed out already, a lot of good closure for things that happened in previous arcs. I was happy at first to learn that Leafpool is finally dead, but reading this scene, I instantly felt bad about that. Jayfeather's grief is really well written, and I miss his POV so much. Alderheart, you did REALLY GOOD. Jayfeather asking Alderheart to stay with him, and then being disgusted with his own "weakness" made my heart weep. Hollyleaf explaining that she is closer to her mother than ever before makes my heart soar. I am glad they all finally came to an understanding, together. Jayfeather moving into Leafpool's nest and Alderheart moving into Jayfeather's and Squirrelflight being shocked at first but content about it....just wow. I loved it all.
I only wish Lionblaze could have been a part of that scene too, when he went to visit. I really wonder how he felt about his mother's death.
And gonna point out again I'm always going to love Jayfeather to death. This scene once again shows he isn't just this cranky cat. He has a heart. And I really don't think he was OOC in A Vision of Shadows or Lost Stars. He's suddenly all about StarClan because of just what I was thinking- his mother had told him he would guide him, and he has lost her and his sister once more. He is hurting. That doesn't excuse his behavior like outing Mothwing at the Gathering, it's just that I can understand why he's like this. This bonus scene really helped to shed more light on the situation, and I had already guessed this from reading the book itself. Overall, really well done and I'm glad this was shared so people who don't have access to the scene can read it.

I just finished the bonus scene today, and it really does explain why Jayfeather cared about seeing StarClan. The scene was sad, but refreshing compared to the train ride the rest of the book was.

Finally getting confirmation that she was dead makes me feel better, but I still miss her and my headcannons will feature her alive and well

I really love Leafpool's relationship to the three. I don't think theyve done Squirrelflight dirty at all. Like.. Regardless of your opinion, giving children up for adoption for a reason like Leafpool's doesnt magically erase the fact that they're her kits and that she loves them. Like, it's not just one sided either. A lot of fans really wanted this closure between Leafpool and her kits, and it's really cathartic to see them actually communicating for once about well. Everything. Yeah, maybe it doesnt include Squirrelflight, but it doesnt really need to? I'm fairly sure they already had their closure (except Jay keeps taking shots and Squirrelflight), but we havent gotten to see them having a heart to heart with their mother. Besides, you heckin see it in this bonus chapter; Leafpool p much tells us that Squirrelflight did a great job raising the three.

First of all, I am adopted. Did that mean my mother didn't love me or doesn't deserve to try to get a relationship with me? No. Secondly, they're not just throwing away Squirrelflight raising them. They both knew what they were getting into. Third, what do you have against them having a relationship with their biological mother? She was FORCED into giving them up. Who knows how the Clans would have reacted to them??? It could have been Mapleshade all over again. She deserves another shot at being their mother and she's got it through StarClan. Get over it. They treat it like it is either or and that's what my aggravation is about. If it was more balanced, and it isn't, then I wouldn't be as mad. It also doesn't help that no matter what, Leafpool gets the up and up in this situation over Squirrelflight. In the end, it's really stupid. They are throwing away Squirrelflight's sacrifice, as it's always about Leafpool and not how great Squirrelflight was to them and what she did for them. Leafpool is selfish and she gets away with it. That's not really a good lesson to teach. She abandoned her Clan for some tom when she could have talked things out with Cinderpelt and Brightheart. In the end, she didn't and it's on them both. I don't get why people are trying to justify Leafpool and then act like Squirrelflight was wrong, instead just throwing the line "she chose to take the Three" and leaving it as that. This is not how you do adoptive family and kin. It's way more one-sided than it should be. I just wish the Three were as harsh on Leafpool as they are on Squirrelflight or softer on Squirrelflight than Leafpool and that is obviously not the case by what we're shown. I'm not changing my mind on this.

torchbug - Please do not necropost and read our recent thread that is stickied and announced which says “Reminder: Necroposts.” Also, there is no reason to have a snark, rude tone. I suggest you reread our Forum Rules as well. Thanks.
