ok so
you were SO AGAINST just buying a scratching post or some nail clips (or one of the several other ways to prevent a cat from scratching furniture) that you literally mutilated your cat, made them almost defenceless, and made it painful for them to walk??
lol no
sorry not sorry but declawing is awful and should be illegal worldwide

Declawing a cat for reasons other than its own benefit is inhumane It's like cutting off a kid's hands because they keep knocking over stuff Instead of trying to solve the problem you just get rid of the problem entirely like a donkeyhat at the sacrifice of your pet's life and health If you want to declaw your pet do them a big favor and just give them to someone else. You know, someone who will actually take care of them properly?

This is why you buy carbon steel furniture. They won't be scratching it any time soon.

I mean I guess declawing is okay if you need to do it because of a medical thing or something, but 95% of the time owners just do it bc they don't want to be inconvenienced by some scratches on their couch

I remember in high school one of my friends was complaining that her cat scratched her so she was going to ask her parents to get him declawed. Literally, I stopped what I was doing and sat there and told her what that would mean for her cat and I don't think she even cared? If you're so bothered by a scratch on your couch or a scratch on yourself that you would put your cat through that hell then you should have never gotten a cat! Or any pet ever for that matter. I have a cat who used to scratch the furniture all the time, but did you see me getting her declawed? Nope! We bought cat tape to put on the ends of our furniture and put her scratching post where we didn't put the tape. And guess what? Problem solved! Instead of causing a bunch of health and behavioral problems for my cat by declawing her we stopped my cat from scratching our furniture by putting in a little bit of cheap effort. But I guess surgically removing a cats knuckles is better than putting tape on your furniture right? Or clipping her claws every few months, or buying a scratching post or two to put beside your furniture, or giving her to someone else who will properly care for her, or everything else you can easily do to save your cat from lifelong health problems?

Declawing is one of the worst things you could do to a cat. I've had to witness cats being declawed, and it's so horrific that I can't even explain. And don't even get me on the aftermath of the surgery. The poor things are in so much pain and can't walk properly for weeks, and the ones less tolerant to pain can go unbalanced for even months. It's terrible.

Declawing is absolutely horrifying imo. Two of my cats are indoor/outdoor cats, the other is inside BECAUSE she's declawed. And we got her that way, we would never resort to declawing, ever. Bella (my declawed cat) doesn't seem to have any pain, thankfully. But that doesn't mean any other cat will be fine and dandy either. But if Bella were to accidentally go outside, there would be no way for her to defend herself. So we have to make sure she can't get out.

There's actually a lot of misinformation about declawing, it's surprisingly not bad if the procedure is done while the cat is young and the surgery is done correctly.
However, it is still the equivalent of removing close to half of a human finger and it severely distresses the cat. You're forced to have them as an indoor cat due to them losing their main way of protecting themselves. I disagree with it, but I honestly think this point is kind of outdated. I've spoken to some vets and they say they hardly ever declaw a cat due to people becoming more educated on the case. Dead, circle-jerky topic.

There have been some known to cause trouble in neighbourhoods and become a pretty much intrusive species. Plus, there's just so much harmful stuff out there and egh. I'd rather somebody declawed their cat and kept it indoors than permamently left it outdoors. What's even the point? lmao

You can't assume all are out for money, there ARE some that care about the wellbeing of the animal. Well, if it's done while the cat is young they can likely bounce back up to their usual self/get used to being declawed faster.

the environmental dangers are just as much of a problem as the cats getting shot/hit by cars/etc!!
cats are not native to the US so any animals they kill cause ecosystem destruction the elements, poisonous plants, other animals, human refuse, prey with worms, and so on also endanger their health severely
while animals can be feral it doesn't mean they should be. surviving vs thriving or something

There's health concerns with ANY medical procedure as well. Of course, there's a lot more with declawing and I definitely don't support it but it's really not as extreme as people make it out to be.

if you're cat scratches you 99.9% of the time it's you're fault for making them angry like ?? it's like a kid hits somebody "oh I better cut off his fingers"
because that's reasonable. Totally !!! and so many people don't even care, it's like, don't own a cat if you don't care for it's health
