Mika had fallen asleep under the bed wrapped in the seal pelt he carried. He was exhausted enough that he didn't wake up or even move when the front door opened.
He'd come into the house to get out of the snow. He'd thought the place abandoned, there had been no scent of recent human activity, so he'd been surprised to find supplies still in the building. He'd thought humans cleared everything out when they left a place behind. No matter, he'd found medical supplies in the bathroom and he'd been able to clean and bandage the wounds on his eye. He'd covered it to the best of his ability and he'd found food in the pantry.
It made everything so much easier to deal with.

(Hmm, I really don't know. I think I'd rather play the sibling, but I also think I'd be horrible at playing the father, even if it's just a small part X3 do you have a preference?)

(I don't. I tend to play adults fairly well and I'm pretty alright with the character I considered using for the adopted child.

The social worker's car drove off, leaving Aarow standing outside the suburban home on the sidewalk. He was still nervous, clutching the black trash bag that held his clothes and few personal items. How could he not be nervous? Every home before had sent him off without hesitation once his time with them was at its end. Now someone was finally saying "Why don't you stay here?" It was still unbelievable. And frightening. As soon as they found out, as soon as they knew, he'd be back in the system, or worse.
He'd met the father only once before. He knew there was supposed to be a brother or sister that he hadn't met yet, but he couldn't remember if he'd been told their name or age. He was almost seventeen, but he could pass for thirteen or fourteen if he tried, most of the foster kids could pass for a lot younger. If he could just keep his cover for the next year and a half, he could legally be considered an adult and if things went wrong like he suspected they would, he could leave, hide, vanish. He just had to make this last long enough to stay out of the system.
Slowly, he took one step and then another as he began approaching the house. He dragged his feet, stalling though he knew he had to meet them sooner or later. As he approached the porch, he stopped a few feet from the door, reaching forward and knocking quietly.

Alayah sat anxiously in the parlor room, trying to read the book she held in her hands but to nervous to do so. She was excided, but in a small part of her mind she wondered what her new brother would be like. Even though her father had included her in every decision made on the topic, she still wondered if she had made the right choice. Maybe I should've said I wanted a sister... she thought briefly. At least, if worst comes to worst, I'll only have to live with him for...a year? she wondered, trying to recall his age. Her father had said he was older than her, but couldn't recall if he had mentioned any actual age. She was so lost in thought that when there was a light knock on the door she started, leaping to her feet and looking at it for a moment, before shaking her head in an attempt to clear it. C'mon, he won't be that bad. she told herself as she smoothed her plain white dress, hoping to come off as more calm than she felt. Her father reached the door a moment before her, giving her a reassuring smile before her pulled it open. "Aarow, welcome!" Mr. Edwards said a little too brightly, though didn't seem to notice. "I'm sure you remember me, and this," he pulled the door open a little farther to reveal a pale Alayah. "Is my daughter Alayah. She could show you to your room." He told Aarow, before turning to Alayah as he left. "I've got a bit of work I need to do, but if you need me I'll be in my office." He said, then smiled at both of them as he left.

Aarow hesitated when the father called him by the wrong name, but he felt his words catch in his throat. He didn't know how to correct him. Instead he responded by dipping his head, still clinging tightly to his bag. "Thank you." He replied quietly, uncertain what else to say or do.
As soon as the father was gone though, the girl became much more intimidating. Some of the previous families he'd stayed with had had children, a lot of them younger. She didn't seem too much younger than him, but he still didn't know anything about her. Other kids he'd met had been spiteful and they'd known he wasn't really their brother, so they'd made a point to get him in trouble a lot.
He gave her a cautious look before turning his eyes to the floor at his feet. He had no idea what to say now.
