Rabbitpaw bounded up to the clearing as well, almost skidding to a stop in front of the den. She stared up at him with excited green eyes; she had no idea what her mentor was about to say, but there was at least a 50% chance that it was good. Perhaps when they were done here, Redstar could take her out for training? She was probably more ready about going out of camp than the actual meeting.

(Aw yessss Redboi will have such a big sappy crush on him,,, I'm thinking maybe 3 kits? :3 )
Tallfern nodded sympathetically - While he didn't mind the thought of staying at camp to watch kits that much, he could imagine that for Poplarwhisker, especially given the circumstances, it would be difficult to stay in camp and trust the other warriors to fulfill their hunting duties in her stead. "Stoneclan has nothing but honor for you, raising the next warriors for the clan... Especially me." He purred.
Redstar vaguely wasn't able to help searching to see Owlface among his gathering clanmates, but he quickly refocused. He noticed the excitement in his apprentice's eyes as she came to listen, likely hoping for good news. He hoped none of the more enthusiastic apprentices would take his announcement into their own paws. When his clanmates had gathered, he cleared his throat and meowed, "As you all know, prey is hard to come by. With Greenleaf leaving soon, we need to think ahead for ways to get prey. I may address our issue with the other clans at the next gathering, but... Until then, I need to make sure all your mouths are fed. Firestorm has suggested an idea to feed the clan and hopefully give us more prey in the future. The eagle that nests in our territory often takes prey, and we can't afford to lose more to it..." He paused for a moment, worry striking the tom as he considered how dangerous the plan may turn out to be. "That's why I will be planning with the clan's oldest and best warriors to hunt down the eagle. Young warriors and apprentices cannot be a part of this mission." His gaze scanned across his clan for the oldest among them, his gaze unintentionally resting on the tall gray tom he had been casually searching out before his announcement began. "Those warriors, Firestorm, and I, will discuss this together to plan the best course of action. That is all." He concluded, before leaping down from his perch and back to his deputy.

((sounds good!! we could pm the rest of the details so it doesn’t clog up here lmao))
Owlface had been sitting in the clearing nervously, as he figured the meeting had something to do with the lack of prey. And he was right. His eyes widened when Redstar met eye contact with him, for just a moment. He wasn’t sure if it was on purpose or not, but Owlface had a gut feeling it meant he was one of the older warriors meant to help hunt the eagle. When the meeting ended, he decided to groom his fur for a bit, perhaps to ease his nerves beginning to prick his paws.

(Yeah, that sounds good. x) )
Redstar exchanged a few words with Firestorm for a few minutes. The oldest warrior in the clan, Raggedfur, was still out training her apprentice, which meant there would still be some time before he could meet and discuss the plans in full. His fur prickled as he considered passing the time by working up the courage to talk to Owlface. Of course, he... valued the tom's opinion and wanted to hear what he had to say about the plan. That's why he wanted to speak with him. He padded over to Owlface, stopping at a tail length away. "Owlface, are... Are you alright?" He asked, worry rising in his tone when he noticed the nervousness in his demeanor.

Owlface lifted his head when Redstar approached. He quickly dipped it again and said, "Y-Yes, I'm fine. It sounds really good." He felt his ears grow hot with the leader's concern, "The plan, I mean." He remembered he must have felt this concern for all the Clan. It was his job, of course. "It just sounds a little frightening to me,"he admitted, shifting his paws a bit. Then the silver tom met Redstar's gaze more firmly. "But I'm sure with you leading us, we can do it."

Poplarwhisker purred again, then gave her attention to Redstar. When he was finished speaking, her neck fur bristled a bit. "I'd love to sink my claws into that bird," she said, her tail flicking back and forth. Their Clan needed all the food it could get, especially with her kits coming soon. "Does it think it just owns the place?" Then the queen looked back to Tallfern almost nervously and asked, "Are you going?"

Redstar felt a little relieved to hear Owlface was okay with the plan, even if it was frightening. If he was completely honest with himself, the potential for it to go wrong was terrifying to him. The leader's face grew hot at Owlface's confidence in his leadership. "Oh- Oh, no, it's you who will make this hunt possible - You as in... You all. My clanmates." He meowed, feeling miserably embarrassed. He spoke honestly; it was really the warriors of the clan that would give him strength to lead. Still, Owlface's words left a warm impact on him. He cleared his throat, trying to restore his dignity. "Even an eagle doesn't stand a chance against the strength of my warriors working together."

Tallfern had gazed at his mate fondly for a long moment as he appreciated the she-cat's confidence and determination. He blinked in surprise when he realized she had asked him a question. "Wha- Me?" He squeaked, his eyes wide with initial fear at the thought. But when he stopped to consider it... He wouldn't be doing it alone. And he had his kits and their to think about. "I'll... I'll go if Redstar wants me to go. I know we'll need as many warriors as we can to take it down."

Owlface smiled and nodded. "You're right," he said, feeling himself grow reassured with Redstar's words. He always knew what to say, unlike him; that was why he was leader. "When Raggedfur gets back we can discuss it with her." The idea of an eagle raid still made him uneasy, but he knew with the power of their Clanmates they could get through anything. He kneaded his paws into the ground as he asked, "Have you eaten today?"

Rabbitpaw waiting until Redstar was done talking to Firestorm to make her way to the leader. But when she saw him stop to speak with Owlface, she snorted to herself playfully. Ever since she had become his apprentice, she could tell he had a pretty big crush on that tom. It was quite amusing to her, but she would never point it out in front of either cat. She padded closer to them, but not to where she interrupted their conversation, and attempted to prod at him with her eyes.

Redstar felt an odd rush of happiness to be checked in on by the tom he had admired since apprenticehood. He tried to hide the small thrill by giving his chest fur a few licks. It was no secret that during this season of little prey, the leader would often only give himself the very last pick of prey to make sure all his clanmates were fed first. But he couldn't have said no to an offer of prey when his sister Blackfeather had suggested it. "This morning, yes." He meowed quietly. For a moment, he found himself growing more comfortable with talking to Owlface, until he felt eyes burn into his pelt. When he realized Rabbitpaw was watching them, he jumped a little and turned to face her. "Oh! Rabbitpaw, do you need something?" He asked, once again trying to maintain his dignity.

Rabbitpaw stepped forward, trying not to let her whiskers twitch at the two toms talking. "Well, if you're not too busy right now, could we maybe go training for a bit?" she asked, tipping her head. She figured his mind would be a little troubled with the lack of prey and the eagle issue, so maybe getting out of camp would help.
Owlface watched in amusment at the little apprentice. "She's very persistent," he added softly.

Redstar realized that he had spent the day leading the border patrol and discussing potential plans with Firestorm - while Rabbitpaw hadn't gotten her training in. His initial embarrassment faded into sympathy as he nodded. "Of course, Rabbitpaw. Why don't..." He paused in thought for a moment before deciding aloud, "...I show you some battle moves?" He wished he could stay and talk to Owlface, but at the same time, he felt somewhat relieved. Perhaps his apprentice was saving him from embarrassing himself in the long run. (LOL I know. Rabbitpaw nodded enthusiastically. "That would be fun!" she said, then looked over Redstar's shoulder at Owlface. "I hope I'm not stealing him from you," she joked; the silver tom blinked warmly in response and waved his tail at her. She then looked back up at Redstar and started lightly bouncing. "Let's go!" She could tell how nervous her mentor was, and it was even somewhat funny to her. Perhaps she would get them back together to talk later.

Redstar flicked his tail in farewell to owlface before flicking his ears to Rabbitpaw for her to follow him. He worriedly wondered about what his apprentice had said to Owlface... Surely his fondness for Owlface wasn't so obvious that an apprentice would notice, was it? He lead his apprentice across the rocky ground and out of the ravine the camp was set in, intent on taking her to the training grounds. He swallowed, and was unable to help asking, "What did you mean... 'steal me from' Owlface?" He asked cautiously, trying to keep a stoic tone about the whole ordeal.

Rabbitpaw looked to Redstar as she hopped along. “Well, it looked like you two were very... enraptured by each other,” she said with a smile. “But I didn’t want you to mess up anything while you’re still frazzled with the eagle thing.” None of the other apprentices had noticed besides her, since she was the only one that was around Redstar so much. And she didn’t plan on telling anyone either, just in case someone has a big mouth.

Redstar felt his pelt heat up, and he opened his mouth to protest any... enrapturement going on at all. The last thing he wanted was for his apprentice to gossip about him and his feelings. But, was Rabbitpaw really one to ever gossip? Anyway, he felt pretty sure she was joking when she said that both of them looked that way. He was certain it was only one-sided. "Us two... Nice one." He laughed half-heartedly.

Rabbitpaw shook her head. "I'm not joking," she insisted, giving him a small smile. "I think he might return the feelings. He's just pretty hard to read, I think." She strolled along happily, as if this was a normal conversation to have with your leader. But she was also his apprentice, and she felt she had a closer bond with him than the other apprentices. "I won't say anything, don't worry," she added with a flick of her tail. Amusement glittered in her eyes, but she was sincere.

Redstar nodded doubtfully, but he blinked gratefully at the reassurance that Rabbitpaw would keep the whole thing a secret. "Thanks." He meowed, and he gave himself a small shake before regaining his composure. He needed to be a source of leadership and confidence - he could confide those things when there wasn't larger prey to be catching, so to speak. He strode with his more normal intentional grace and composure to lead his apprentice to the training grounds, which, unsurprisingly, was another collection of rocks and fallen trees. "Alright then." He meowed, turning to face Rabbitpaw. "Do you remember what I showed you last time?" He prompted.

Rabbitpaw stepped back from him a bit, her nose scrunched up in thought. She knew how to kick at an enemy's belly, or to get on their back, but now they were moving on to advanced moves that other cats didn't do. They were creating them as they went, and it only took a few moments for her to remember. "Um, the one where I fall back and kick my legs, and then get back up," she said, then crouched low in preparation to demonstrate. That one really needed a name.

Redstar nodded, a warm smile lighting his face. His natural tendency to want to make sure all of his clanmates were the most prepared for himself was his initial reason for taking on Rabbitpaw as an apprentice. Her determination to work hard despite her own limitations showed that she had the potential to become a warrior - they just needed to figure out how, together. "Good! Let's see it." He meowed, flicking his tail to encourage her to demonstrate again so he saw that she remembered how to do it.

Rabbitpaw nodded, then bunched up her haunched and pushed, landing on her back. She kicked at the air with her legs in a churning motion, then tried to hop back up. Instead she tumbled forward and landed on her flank, and she let out an "oof!" The apprentice rolled back onto her paws and shook out her pelt. "I'm still, uh, working on it," she said sheepishly.

Redstar rushed to help Rabbitpaw up, but he stopped when he saw that she got back onto her paws just fine. He breathed a small sigh of relief. "That's fine! You have the idea down, now you just have to practice." He meowed, giving her shoulder a small nudge with his nose. "Now, I thought of another move we could try out..." He meowed, his whiskers twitching with slight humor as he thought of it, "Maybe you could knock your enemies off their paws by bowling your weight into their legs. What do you think?"

Rabbitpaw tilted her head, then nodded. "Sure! Let's try it," she said, and backed away a fox-length from Redstar as he readied himself. She crouched low to where her chest brushed the floor. She judged where she should aim, then ran and pounced at his legs, leaning forward to put all her weight in the front half of her body.

Even with him being prepared, Redstar's legs buckled under at the attack, and he collapsed over before rolling to his side. He couldn't help but laugh a little. "There you go! You could strike with your back claws when they are still trying to get back up!" He suggested. He shook his fur a little as he got back onto his paws. "You could also knock them off their paws by rolling into them..." He thought aloud. "But, uh... How do you think that felt for you?"

Rabbitpaw has collapsed as well, and she quickly got up when Redstar did. "Well, it was effective, at least," the apprentice mewed, shaking her head clear. "I think if I tuck my head more it won't hurt my neck." She looked up to the sky as she considered the rolling idea. "I've never tried that before," she admitted thoughtfully, then crouched low again. "I'm not even sure I know how to roll," she added with a laugh. "Maybe I need a running start..."

Redstar nodded thoughtfully. "That might help, yeah. Just be careful." He purred, and then he braced himself, thinking about how silly battle training must look with a twitch of his whiskers. "And yes, it would be good to tuck your head and tail in when trying to bowl an enemy over." He agreed. He didn't want his apprentice to hurt herself...

Rabbitpaw backed up from her leader, wanting enough room to charge and gain speed. She didn't want to run into Redstar just yet, as she feared it would end in a mess of limbs. She ducked down, then ran a couple foxlengths before tucking her head to her chest, pulling her legs in, and falling forward. She landed on her side again, but instead of disappointment in her eyes there was pride. "That was a lot easier than I thought it would be!" she said, flipping around to look at Redstar. She was aware of how silly it must have looked, but at least they weren't training with other apprentices - besides Sagepaw.

Redstar purred in amusement as he lifted himself back to his paws after Rabbitpaw's attack, and he instinctively stopped to groom himself after being knocked to the ground. "That was good." He purred. "If you can get a warrior off their paws, then that leaves them vulnerable for other Stoneclan warriors to strike while their down as well." He thought out loud. His expression fell with sympathy as he considered that many of the battle moves Rabbitpaw could use would be most successful with the help of another warrior to make sure she wasn't killed.
