Gremlin quickly ran to Shadow and tried to pull her away. Her leg looked awful, but he had no idea how to help her for now. โCome on boss,โ he said, sending a snarl to Hawkjaw and Daisybug. โWeโll come back with a better plan.โ
Daisybug shook the few droplets of blood from her nose, then stared at the rest of the battle wide eyed. The entire time she stood with her tail bushed and legs frozen to the ground, up until Shadow cried out. Her ears flattened against her head at the blood curdling sound, and she instinctively felt sympathy for the older she-cat. But it was also wrong to attack cats on their already established territory and demand to have it. She felt the urge to help her, but she didnโt have the time or the supplies to. Had Shadow given up?

With an angry hiss, Shadow let herself be guided away by Gremlin. She gave a nod of agreement but said no more as the two walked away from the battle. One leg on each side drug, and she winced with every step. "Next time with more cats." She remarked to Gremlin.

Hawkjaw stood stiffly beside Daisybug and watched the two figures fade into the night. Faint purple was beginning to show on the horizon, signaling the bringing of a new day. With a heavy sigh, Hawkjaw released from his tense stance. "We had better get back." He breathed after a few long moments. The two wouldn't be back at camp until at least sunhigh at this rate, and Hawkjaw's wounds were beginning to have a dull sting in his skin. "Are you okay?" He asked, turning to Daisybug and noticing for the first time the blood that was dripping from her nose.

Daisybug nodded. โIโm fine,โ she said, licking at the wound. It was barely a sting, and she doubted it would scar. However, she leaned to sniff at Hawkjaw and frowned. โI can tell youโre not, though. Can you make it back to camp?โ As she spoke, she pushed through the scent of blood to see if any herbs or cobwebs were around.

"Yeah, I'm fine let's just get out of here." Hawkjaw meowed gruffly. Exhaustion in his limbs begged him not to move, to let Daisybug doctor him. However, he fought his urges and limped in the direction of camp.
The sun was beginning to stretch over the trees, casting an amber glow on the forest floor. The cats were beginning to pass familiar trees which signified closing in on camp. Hawkjaw hadn't spoken since the two cats left the Ancient Moon Pool cavern. His body felt tattered and beaten, and his mind was whirring with thoughts. "I'm glad I went with you." He meowed finally, his breath billowing in small clouds in the NewLeaf morning. He couldn't bear to imagine what could have happened had the medicine cat gone alone. Are loners going to become that much of an issue? he asked himself, remembering all the she-cats in the clan with half-loner kits. even the former medicine cat had fallen for the loner... Hawkjaw stopped suddenly. "Daisybug, before we enter camp,.." He meowed suddenly, turning to face the she-cat. "I am proud of you. You are going to serve Groveclan greatly."

Daisybug looked over at Hawkjaw from where she let him lean on her. She blinked, then smiled and nodded her head at him. "Thank you," she said softly. "That means a lot to me." She could feel some of the weight lift off her shoulders at Hawkjaw's words, and she let it sink in before they walked into camp.
