Shocked at how quickly their mother moved on from her previous mate, Scorchpaw and Mistpaw grow irritable and feel unloved. Wolfleaf tries to encourage them but they turn on her instead, insisting that her and Kingflame should have stayed behind in the twolegplace. This causes a rift to grow within the apprentice's team and they start their journey to the mountains with arguing, much to everyone else's displeasure.
