A fire spreads on the territory and quickly takes the Clan’s camp, many cats are left to burn as the rogues are generally cowardly, one of which being Lana who perished in the flames, when her tail is caught in the Nursery wreckage.
Many more die of smoke inhalation, later on.
Front is made deputy in Harlow’s place.
Rootstar also loses a life.

Although the other clans lost warriors in the fire too, they cannot pass up the chance to strike now that Rootstar is momentarily weakened. The battle was long and many perish, but the rebels eventually come out victorious, and most of the rogues are chased away. Rootstar escapes with the rest of his lives and cannot found anywhere by any of the ensuing search parties, and is presumed gone for good.
After the battle Ashpoppy, Swanshadow and his kits, and Echowind and her kits return to the clan to start rebuilding their torn and tattered clan. Some rogues wish to stay and aid the warriors as they rebuild as they were against what Rootstar had done, and the clan cats agree to let them stay, albeit reluctantly.
As the clan is still recovering they hold off on choosing a new leader until they become more stable.

The party fails to find Rootstar but they locate another long absent clan member. Tansyheart, the banished former medicine cat had been found living among loners just outside the forest. Upon learning what has happened with her former mate after her departure, Tansyheart decides to return to the clan with the search party. She reclaims her medicine cat title with little to no controversy and Webpaw returns to the clan to continue his training with the 'new' medicine cat.
