The clan Brightpaw was living in convinces the other leaders to wage war on Rootstar for his sudden tyranny and they attack the camp, claiming 3 of his lives and a sone of his rogues.
Ashpoppy and Swanshadow decide to leave the clan and Echowind lets them take her kits with them to keep them safe.

Rootstar has a break down after the last of his clan mates leaves the clan and it is revealed that is he has fallen mentally ill. Something changed in him one day out of the blue and whatever claimed his mental stability drove him to murder his leader and take over the clan.
After the his alarming display he orders his warriors to steal kits and apprentices in other clans to fight for him.
