Levi nodded slowly, taking in what she just shared with him. He knew exactly how Riley felt because just two years ago, he was in the same boat. "I won't tell you to not worry, because I know you're going to worry about this until you actually are in college, but I will say I understand completely. I know it might come as a shocker to you, but I was scared to," he admitted. "Leaving behind all my high school friends, Sutton, my mom, the memory of my father...you, it was close to one of the hardest things I've had to do. But I can tell you first hand that it was so liberating. No one knew who I was before college and that meant I could start over. I'm not saying that it will be the same experience for you, but I know you'll make some pretty great friends along the way and succeed like you always do." He scooted closer to her and wrapped an arm around her shoulder, pulling her in for a side hug. "You are an amazing woman Riley. And though I might joke with you being otherwise, never forget that," he whispered to her, looking down at her. He didn't want to see her worried, he wanted her to be happy because he knew she deserved it. "And if you ever need me, I'm just a phone call away Capps." Looking back at the lake, he saw that the sun had slipped behind the horizon, but the brilliant colors of orange and pink and a little bit of purple lingered. It really was a spectacular view.

Riley never expected Levi to feel the same way as her. As long as she could remember, he was Sutton's cool older brother. She'd always thought he was brave and confident and didn't even flinch at any obstacle life threw at him. Now that she was older, she should know better, but she was still amazed to hear that he had been worried about going away to college. She smiled a bit at his first words. She was confident too, but she was also a huge worrier. So Levi was definitely right about her being worried about it until she truly was a college kid and was used to her new life, maybe a few days into the semester. "I guess you're right, Lev. A new life. A new start." For as long as she could remember, she was just one of her siblings. She was known as Elijah's little sister or Finn's little sister to the older kids, and usually the twins' older sister to the younger kids. Link tended to just fade into the background, but the twins had a reputation in the high school before they'd even moved onto middle school. Even the kids around her age would compare her to Kate. But in college, she could just be Riley Capps. There was no Elijah or Finn or Kate or Nick or Vince to compare her to. The thought made her smile a bit. "This really is a big step, huh?" she asked. "You know, it sucked when you moved away, but I was also happy to see you moving on and taking your next step. I just didn't think it'd happen so fast for me and Sutton." She was slightly surprised when Levi put his arm around her and pulled her closer, but she rested her head on his shoulder, enjoying the feeling of his body next to hers as she looked out over the sunset. It looked like a painting, and it was a sight she knew she'd never get tired of. She sipped her frappe, tilting her head to look at him as he spoke again. His compliment definitely surprised her, and caused a small blush to cover her cheeks. "You're pretty great too, Levi. I mean, everything you've done for me and Sutton and your mom over the years... And you still manage your own life in the process. It's pretty amazing." She put her own arm around him, letting her head fall onto his shoulder as she looked over at the sunset. "You're going to regret that offer," she said with a small smile. "I'm gonna need a lot of phone calls." cal

Levi nodded. "It sure is a big step, but it's amazing step once you do it," he murmured, smiling when she rested her head on his shoulder. She smelt like the pool, but he didn't mind one bit because the pool was one of his favorite places in the world. "Yeah, crazy to think you girls have all grown up. It feels like just yesterday I was pulling your hair and teasing you... Wait, I still do that," he smirks down at her. Finishing the last of his drink, he set the cup back down and smiled when he listened to her. "It wasn't easy, you two were and still are a handful. Levi felt her arm snake around him and he couldn't help but think about how right this felt. He felt completed. Laughing at her last comment he said, "And I will answer every single one of those calls until I die, I promise you that Riley."
The sky started getting dark and he looked down at her. "Unfortunately, I think it's time to head back home," he stated. Hopping down, he helped her down, grabbing her little waist and picked her up from the hood of the jeep, setting her gently back down. Levi collected her flip flops for her and handed them back, then walked over to the passenger's side and open the door. "M'lady," he said again, lending her a hand to guide her in. Getting into the drivers seat, he buckled himself in and started the car, heading back the way they came.

Riley smiled at his reassurances that college would be amazing. She sure hoped it would. Even if she was terrified right now, she was sure it would be fine. Plus, she had a whole summer before she had to go away to school. She just wanted to spend as much time as she could with Sutton and Levi. Soon they'd all go their own directions and they may stay in contact, but she feared it wouldn't be like this. Riley stayed in the position she was in, not lifting her head to talk to him anymore. She didn't see the need to lift her head when it was so comfortable against his shoulder. "You're never going to stop pulling my hair and teasing me," she guessed, and she didn't mind it. It would just feel weird if Levi suddenly did a 180 and was always nice to her. She was perfectly happy with mixing moments like these with the teasing. "Were always going to be a handful," she promised, feeling right. She wasn't sure what it was, but she felt right with Levi like this. Her body fit perfectly against his and she didn't want to move. Not when everything felt so right. "Every call, huh? What about the 3 am calls when I can't sleep and want someone to talk to? What if I call when you're hanging out with friends or studying but I need advice?" she asked. She finally pulled away slightly to look at him. She was disappointed to see the sky starting to darken, but figured it had to end eventually. At least she knew that she'd have Levi to spend time with for the rest of the summer. When he spoke, she looked up. "I guess you're right," she said with a sigh. She had been about to get off herself when Levi grabbed her and lifted her off the hood of his car. She held her flip flops in one hand and followed him around to the passenger side, climbing in and buckling her seatbelt. "You're the biggest dork I've ever met," she said, commenting on how much of a gentleman he'd been all day, but there was a smile on her face as she watched him, wanting to let him know that she appreciated what he'd done. As he drove, she slowly drifted off to sleep. cal

"Even at three in the morning. I'm not saying I won't be mad at you, because I probably will but I'll still answer. And even with the guys, I'd still answer," Levi told her honestly. Riley was there for him for more than half of his life, of course he would prioritize her. If he didn't answer, he would have to have a pretty big explanation for her. He would do anything for his favorite girls.
Laughing as she called him a dork, he turned on the radio and letting it play softly in the background. He glanced over at her and saw that she had fallen asleep and smiled. Today had been great, getting to see his family and Riley and ending the say with an amazing view. He felt himself getting tired, but the caffeine from his coffee allowed him to be alert and awake. He started singing the lyrics of the song on the radio, seeing that it had gotten dark quickly. Levi glanced over at Riley again to see if she was comfort, then looked back when headlights shines brightly at his car. The other car was coming down the road fast. Narrowing his eyes, he saw that the headlights were from a Ford truck and the truck was swerving from its side of the road to Levi's, heading straight for them at probably 80 mph. Levi gave a little shout, no knowing exactly what to do. He didn't want to hit his car head on, which would probably happen in approximately 5 seconds. He did the only thing he could think of and turned off the road, not knowing he was heading straight for a tree. "Riley," he screamed before he heard a crash and everything went black.

Everything had been going great when Riley managed to fall asleep. She didn't know how she did it because she wasn't the type to fall asleep in the car, but maybe it was the music playing softly on the radio, or maybe it was the comforting conversation she'd had with Levi, or maybe it was the excitement of the day finally hitting her. But it wasn't long after he began to drive that she fell asleep. Riley wasn't sure what woke her. It could've have been Levi's shout or the feeling of his car veering off the road. Either way, her eyes snapped open. Disorientated, she tried to figure out what was going on, but she didn't have any time to figure it out before the air bag inflated in front of her and everything going black. She woke up to the sound of rhythmic beeping in the hospital, keeping her eyes shut as everything came back. Then her eyes snapped open as she frantically looked around, saying Levi's name. All she could think about was him. Him telling her everything would be okay next year. The way he promised to answer her calls at 3 am or when he was hanging out with his friends. Then everything else. The years of friendship they'd shared. She didn't know what she'd do without him. "Levi!" she called, not even paying attention to her own state after the accident. She needed to know that he was okay first. cal

His face hurt. He arm hurt. His body ached. Opening his eyes, Levi felt a shock of pain run through his left eye and immediately closed his eyes again. Forcing himself to open both eyes again, he saw a white room with machines around him. A hospital? What... he thought, then the events that lead him here flashed through his head. Riley! Sitting up suddenly, he looked down and saw his arm in a sling. No... no no no no, believe don't say it is broke. Seeing that his arm wasn't in a cast so he pushed his worries about his arm aside and got out of the bed. "Riley! Riley? Where are you?" he shouted, walking out of his room. This was all his fault. If anything had happen to Riley, he would never forgive himself. Levi was in a craze, shouting Riley's name over and over again, finally finding the desk that is for help. His eyes watering, his head hurting, he stumbled over to the desk and begs, "Where is Riley Capps? Please tell me she's in this hospital, breathing and fine. Please tell me where she is." His voice was choked and full of emotions. Gosh, this was all his fault. The person at the desk called some doctors over. "Sir, you need to go back to your room," she said to him with no emotions at all. The doctor took his good arm to lead his back, but Levi pulled away. "No. No, I'm not going back until I see Riley Capps, Capps with two p's." he practically yelled.

It was only when she heard Levi's voice and began to relax that Riley noticed Elijah was in the room with her, his eyes red from crying. He'd practically been asleep, so it was only now that he rushed over to his sister's side, hugging her and letting go when she tensed up in pain. "Eli..." she started, starting to sit up. Elijah shook his head, glancing out to the hallway where they heard Levi. "Stay here, Ri," he said, knowing that she wouldn't calm down completely until she saw that Levi was okay. Elijah got her to lay back down and then left the room, stopping when he saw the doctor trying to bring Levi back to his room. "Hey, come on. Just let him see her," Elijah said, nodding towards Riley's room. "Neither of them will calm down until they know that the other is okay," he said to the doctor, his voice full of emotion. He glanced over at Levi for a minute before turning back to the doctor. "They've been through a lot together." Riley's room was right near the desk and she strained to hear everything, still too worried about Levi to look at her own injuries. All she knew was that everything hurt and she wanted to go home. She pushed back the tears and tried to calm herself. Levi was alive. She'd heard him outside. And he was clearly fine enough to be walking around, but she couldn't stop her heart from pounding at the thought of losing him. It was the scariest thought she'd ever had. She didn't know what she'd do without him. cal

Seeing Elijah and how red his eyes were, Levi felt a tear slip down his face. He quickly brushed it away, he didn't have any right to feel pain because this was all his fault. Levi knew he looked like a mess, with a large black eye, some scraps on his face and body and his arm in a sling, but he didn't care. "Elijah. Elijah, I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. This is all my fault," he forced out, his voice cracking. "I'm so sorry," he repeated, feeling absolutely defeated. "Where is she?" he croaked. Elijah pointed to the room and Levi hesitated. Would she even want to see him? Did he even deserve to see her? Fighting back tears, he slowly walked to her room and peaked in. His heart broke when he saw her laying in the bed, a gash across her face and other wounds that he didn't know about. "Riley..." he whispered, not knowing what to say, feeling guilty and full of regret. He regretted even sneaking out to go to the view because if he had said no, this wouldn't have happened. Taking a step towards her, he hesitated, trying to figure out if she was mad at him or not. "I'm so sorry Riles," he whispered, his head down in shame. This was too much. What if he had lost her? The pain was almost too much but he made such he didn't cry in front of her, holding them in. He was so close to breaking down but he didn't deserve to.

Elijah liked Levi and Sutton. They were both like younger siblings to him, so he still felt bad when he saw what shape Levi was in. It wasn't quite as powerful as what he'd felt when he saw Riley in the hospital bed, her face stitched up and her eyes closed, but he still felt something when he saw Levi. "Don't be sorry," he said, his voice cracking slightly. "Everyone is okay. What happened isn't important," he said, running a hand through his hair. He'd talked to the police already and learned that Levi had likely saved his sister's life when he swerved off the road. He couldn't blame him and he knew Riley wouldn't want him to blame him either. He followed Levi into Riley's room, leaning against the doorframe to watch them. Riley saw Levi and had to fight back the tears. She didn't know how the accident had played out because she'd been sleeping and she had no reason to believe that Levi was responsible. She pushed herself up into a sitting position, wincing a little. Everything was sore and she still hadn't even figured out what her real injuries were or seen the wound on her face. Instead, her eyes lingered on Levi. His face. His arm in its sling. "Oh, Levi..." she murmured, watching him. Seeing him and that he was okay, she had to fight back a fresh wave of tears. Levi was okay. He'd still be around. She truly could not imagine life without him. Even the school year when he had been gone at college was hard. Elijah cleared his throat. "I'm, uh, gonna go get some coffee. Maybe call Amelia or Mom to let them know you're both alright..." he said, a bit awkwardly. Everything in him wanted to stay by Riley's side, but it also seemed like Riley and Levi needed a little privacy, so he forced himself to walk out of the room and leave his little sister and her friend alone. Riley turned t watch Elijah go and then looked at Levi. "Levi... I'm so happy you're here," she said softly, holding out a hand towards him. She wanted to hug him, but had learned from Elijah that that's painful. Instead, she held out her hand to hold his or give him a handshake. Whatever. Though it was uninjured, it was bruised and scraped up like the rest of her body. "I-I woke up in here and I was so worried. The thought of not having you around..." she trailed off, looking down at the blanket covering her body. She couldn't finish the sentence. cal

Walking towards her some more, Levi slowly took her hand with his right one. His grip was gentle because he didn't know how badly she was hurt. He didn't let go and sat down on the edge of her bed. "Riley, please forgive me. If anything... If you weren't... I don't..." he tried to say but all of his words were lost. He didn't know what to say. Riley was so important to him, losing her would've been like losing his father all over again. He brought her hand to his face and gave it a soft kiss, letting a couple tears slip out. He would've gone mad if anything worse would've happened.
Sutton burst in Riley's hospital room in a complete craze. She had gotten the call that they had been in a car crash and her mind turned off. Rushing to the hospital, she found him sitting along side Riley's bed. Levi saw Sutton come in an immediately let go of Riley's hand. Getting up slowly, he went to get Sutton a hug, but Sutton wasn't thinking clearly and instead of hugging her brother, she punched him in the stomach, right where he had a bruised rib. Levi doubled over in pain, wheezing, trying to get air. "What the he'll Levi! How could you?! Not even a day back and you almost kill my best friend and yourself. Maybe you should've never came back!" she shouted at him. Levi's face dropped tremendously and he looked down.
After Sutton's outburst, their mother came in in her scrubs and hugged Levi, whispering, "She didn't mean it honey. She's just upset." She pulled away from him and looked at him and Riley. "Sorry I didn't come sooner, I got the message during a surgery so I had to finish that. Barely could though," she remarked. "You are all allowed to head home as long as you all get plenty of sleep and take your medication." Levi kept his head down, glancing up once to look at Riley. "I'll just... I'll just go get my things them," he whispered, and slipped out. He wanted so bad to hold Riley in his arms and never let her go. He wanted to assure her that everything was going to be alright just like he did earlier today. But he knew that if he had not come back, Riley would've never been hurt. Oh Riley...

Riley closed her eyes when Levi took her hand, his warmth comforting her like it always had before. She scooted over a few inches to give him more room as he sat on her bed. Her eyes opened and lingered on his face, tears forming in her eyes as she thought about losing him. What would she do without Levi? Though Sutton was her best friend, he was a major part of her life as well and she wasn't sure what she would have done if she'd been the only one to come out alive. She listened to him speak, listened to him struggle with his words. When she spoke again, her voice was quiet. "Levi, what happened?" she asked, her eyes locked onto his. She obviously knew that they'd been in a car accident, but she'd been asleep and only woke up right before the crash. She closed her eyes again when she felt his lips on her hand, not thinking much about the action. Levi cared about her and she cared about him. They'd both been shaken up tonight and she knew she just wanted to be in his arms, but he was probably in just as much pain as she was. Her eyes snapped open when Sutton burst into her room. "Su-" she began, cutting herself off when she saw Sutton punch Levi right in the stomach. She wanted to defend Levi, but she kept her mouth closed for two reasons. The first was that she didn't know what happened. She didn't know if the accident had been unavoidable or if Levi had saved them from a worse accident or if he'd done something stupid that resulted in them crashing. The second was that she just hoped Sutton wasn't actually mad, that she was just afraid of losing her brother and her best friend. She was relieved to see Levi's mother, but still didn't say much. The idea of going home was really nice though. Hospitals had always freaked Riley out and the idea of spending a night in one was less than exciting. Elijah had seen Sutton and her Mom both head into Riley's room, so he followed, absently playing with the label on his coffee. He looked a little better than before, though the signs of his crying were still obvious. He greeted Levi's Mom before sticking one of his hands in his pocket and holding his coffee with the other. "I talked to Amelia. Mom wasn't able to come to the phone but I updated Amelia," he said. Riley nodded. Elijah turned to Mrs. Muller. "So, i know this may be a lot to ask, but I was wondering if Riley could stay with you guys for a few days. My parents house is so chaotic that I don't think it would be good. Amelia and I can also take her, but we're both working, so I thought that if she stayed with you guys she'd at least have Sutton and Levi to keep her company," he said. "Again, I know it's a lot to ask. Amelia and I would be happy to take her if you guys can't," he said. cal

Levi's mom looked at Riley. "Of course she can stay with us. We'd love to help her. I will try and get tomorrow morning off from work but if I can't I know that Sutton and Levi will look after her." Levi walked back in with his his shoes now on and his phone, wallet, keys and Riley's money in his pocket. He walked over to Riley's bed and started to help her up. "I swerved off the road because a truck was headed right for us," he explained quietly, answering her question that she had before Sutton so rudely bursted in. Helping her to sit up and swing her legs around sos they were off the bed, he put her flip flops on for her and handed Riley her phone. "Do you need me to carry you?" he asked her, his eyebrows furrowed together. Thankfully, Sutton had brought her own car when she came to see them so Sutton could drive them home. Levi hadn't even thought about his car and cringed at the thought of the front end being totaled. Stupid truck! If he ever saw it again, Levi would give the owner a piece of his mind.
Getting into the car, Levi was in the back, his forehead leaning against the window, just looking as the scenery passed them. He couldn't wait to fall asleep and forget that this even happened. What a mess! He wondered if Riley would be staying in the guest room or not. He hoped that she would forgive him and that she could feel comfortable staying at their house. He knew she always made herself at home but he didn't know if this would change anything of not. Arriving home, Levi helped Riley inside and Sutton got her a shirt and shorts for her to change into for bed. "I'll leave you to change then," Levi said, turning to walk out of the guest room. "Goodnight Riley. I'm glad we lived," he whispered as he slipped away.

Elijah nodded. "Great." He scribbled his phone number on a piece of paper. His dad was on a business trip and his mom seemed to be working all the time, so he'd appointed himself as his sibling's backup caretaker years ago. "If you need anything, that's my new cell phone number. Or you can also talk to Amelia," he said. His wife was a nurse at this hospital so she might be a little more convenient than Elijah was. When Levi came to help her, Riley finally got a good look at her injuries. She was sore, bruised, and scraped up all over the place. Besides that, she noticed that her wrist was wrapped up in a stiff brace and her ankle was also wrapped up, though much less intensely. At least that shouldn't take long to heal. What she hadn't yet noticed was the stitched up gash across her face, or the scar it would leave, something she'd surely be self conscious about later on. "Be good," Elijah said, ruffling Riley's hair. He gave her another small hug before leaving her with her friends and heading back home to his wife. When Levi explained what happened, Riley stayed quiet for a moment, trying to imagine how terrified he'd been when he swerved off the road. She knew she would have been. "So you saved us," she said, half stating it and half asking us. At the question about whether or not she needed to be carried, she shook her head. Even though she was walking on her own, she still leaned on him, careful not to put too much weight on her injured ankle. Riley didn't really say anything on the way home, still trying to process everything that had happened that night. In fact, the drive and getting settled into the house all seemed to pass in a blur. "Good night, Levi," she said, watching him go. They needed to talk about this, but tonight clearly wasn't the time. It wasn't until Riley went to go change into the clothes that Sutton had got her that she noticed the wound on her face. Wincing, she gently touched near it with her fingers and then frowned. She could already picture the scar she'd have and it wasn't a pretty sight. She just tried to distract herself from the thought of her ugly future scar, heading back to Sutton's room and sitting on the edge of her bed. "Where did you want me to sleep?" she asked. She'd spent nights on Sutton's floor, the couch, and in the guest room, so she'd just leave it for her friend to decide where she slept. cal

Sutton finished changing into her pajama's and turned to Riley. "As much as I would like to have you never leave my sight again, we both know how much I move in my sleep," she admitted sheepishly. "For your sake, I think it's best if you take the guest room tonight." Sutton sat down beside Riley and wrapped her arms around her softly, making sure not to hurt her with the contacted. "I'm so glad you're okay. Well I guess mostly okay," she let out an airy laugh. "But seriously, I don't know what I'd do without you." Helping Riley up, Sutton lead her to the guest room, letting Riley lean on her. "Goodnight Riley, I'll see you tomorrow morning," Sutton said, giving her one last hug and a little kiss on the cheek and walked out of the room.
In his own room, Levi felt the pain of his body really for the first time. Slowly unbuttoning his shirt, he went to his mirror to look at his injuries. He saw an ugly bruise that spread over the right side of his stomach. The bruise was all sorts of colors, but mostly a nasty purple and red. He had broken two ribs. Wincing slightly as he brushed his finger over it, his gaze lifted to his arm that was in a sling. The doctor had told Levi just before they left that it was just a bad sprain and that the brace and sling should be able to come off in about a week. This was going to be the longest week ever. And then their was the black eye. That was almost as back as the bruising on his stomach. It could've been a lot worse. Levi saw his reflection and grimaced at how tired and worn out he looked. But his thoughts kept going back to Riley. Poor Riley. Everyone had told him that it wasn't his fault, that he had saved her, but he didn't feel like he did. Levi didn't do enough. Taking off his pants, he changed into fresh shorts and laid back on his bed, staring at the ceiling. He knew that even though he was so tired, he wouldn't be able to fall asleep. He let out a grown as he turned on his side, his ribs causing him a lot of discomfort. Reaching for his phone, Levi thought of only on person to text. Riley. Hey, I can't sleep. He typed out to her and sent it. Hopefully she was still up.

"Of course, Mom," Riley said, her tone teasing despite how horrible she felt at the moment. She knew Sutton cared about her and she didn't want to upset her friend. "Guest room works," she said with a sigh. She looked down at her feet. She still felt... odd. Like it hadn't set in that she could have died earlier today. When Sutton sat down and put her arms around her, Riley leaned her head on her best friend's shoulder. "I know..." she said softly. All she could think of was how terrified she'd been. How she couldn't imagine losing Levi. She didn't share these thoughts with her friend, but did bring up her brother. "But... please don't let Levi blame himself for this," she begged quietly. Maybe Sutton would be able to get through to her brother easier than Riley could. "It was my idea to leave your house..." She let Sutton guide her to the guest room and she waited until the lights were off and the door was closed. Riley listened to Sutton's footsteps fade away before closing her eyes. She couldn't sleep. It wasn't a surprise, but all she could remember was the last time she'd fallen asleep. She woken up seconds before the car collided with the tree. Leaving her eyes open, she tried to focus on anything else, but all that came to mind was the absolute horror she'd felt during the accident, and the scar across her face. People would judge her. Boys would be pushed away. Even some of the cooler girls at school might not want to be around her. She sighed and thought of the only person she could talk to. She stood up and made her way to Levi's room, getting his text when she was outside his door. She smiled and gently knocked before entering his room. Even in the dark she could make out a few details of his room. But her main focus was the young man on the bed. She set her phone down on his dresser before limping over to the bed. She gently climbed in, not even thinking to ask Levi. She laid down, careful not to touch him. She didn't want to hurt him. "Me either," she whispered. cal

Sutton sighed. “I know I was super harsh on him. I’ll talk to him tomorrow morning”
Right as he set down his phone, Levi hear his door open. In the pale moonlight, he saw her silhouette limping towards him. He turned over to face her slowly, letting out a little groan of pain. “Hey smalls,” he whispered, his minty breath fanning her face a little. They were so close but not touching. Levi so wanted to wrap her in his arms so she could never go, but he was hesitant. He saw the cut on her face and drew in a quick breath. Slowly, he reached out and traced the cut so lightly and delicately. “If I even find that guy with the truck, I’m going to run him over ten thousand times,” Levi said almost in a growl. That punk was going to pay for hurting one of the people he couldn’t live without.
Sitting up, Levi grabbed a blanket and laid it over her. “There. Never say I never did nothing for you,” he joked, giving her a small wink with his good eye. Laying back down he moved closer so that their arms were touching. “Riley,” Levi said quietly, “I was so scared. I feel like I did when my dad died.”

She was so close to him. Riley wanted to curl up close to Levi. He made her feel safe even in times like these. But she couldn't. She didn't want to hurt him. She smiled a bit at him, feeling a lot more comfortable in here than she had in the guest room. It was so much easier to distract herself as she looked into his eyes. She closed her eyes when his finger went to her cut. "It's gonna scar," she said softly. It had been a deep one and she didn't even know what she'd cut her face on. She listened to his words, nodding. "I know you will," she said softly. She wasn't sure if the guy had been not paying attention or drunk or what, but he'd hurt them both badly and she didn't blame Levi. "Did you hear anything about your car?" she asked. Riley smiled when Levi covered her up with a blanket. She pulled it up under her chin, holding onto it tightly. She didn't want to hurt Levi, but she just needed to hold something tightly. The blanket worked, and now she was completely surrounded by his smell. It comforted her. At his words, she frowned. "Oh, Levi..." she whispered. She couldn't imagine how hard it had been for him when his dad died and she wished she could comfort him. "You didn't lose anyone this time," she reminded him, her voice soft. She reached out for his hand (not the injured one) and gave it a gentle squeeze. cal

"And you'll still be your cute little self. Think about it this way, you'll have a crazy story to tell to all the people who ask about it," Levi said lightheartedly, hoping he covered up the guilt he felt. When Riley asked about his car, he frowned. "Oh my sweet baby is totaled. She's done for," he let out a fake sniff as if he were crying. "I had a job at university so I have money saved to buy an old used car. Maybe you can come help me pick it out when you can walk properly," he smiled at her, hoping to lightened the mood.
When she pulled the blanket up to her chin, he couldn't help thinking how cute she was. The action made her look so innocent, and he knew she was. Listening to her reassure him and squeeze his hand, he slowly and carefully snaked an arm around her and pulled her towards him so he was holding her. Levi became very aware of his shirtlessness, but he acted like he didn't remember. He didn't want her to be uncomfortable, but he just wanted to be close to her, protect her.
Laying there, Levi realized something he had forgotten about. "Oh crap," he mumbled, "I completely forgot I invited a group of people over tomorrow for a little kickback." Groaning, he wanted to slap himself, but one of his arms was around Riley and the other was in a sling. "Why do I have the worst timing ever?"

Riley smiled a bit at Levi's comforting words. "I guess you're right," she murmured. While she didn't like the idea of a scar in such a visible place, she knew she would have quite the story to share with anyone that actually asked her about it. She winced a bit when she learned about his car's fate. She knew that no old used car would compare... Maybe she could talk to Sutton and see if there's anything they could do to give Levi some more money. So he can still get something he liked instead of just what he could afford. "I'd love to go with you," she said. It actually would be fun. "We can even take my car..." she offered. She loved her green Jeep. Riley watched curiously as he moved his arm, but she couldn't stop a smile as he put his arm around her and pulled her close. She didn't mind that he was shirtless. She might have teased him about it if things were different, but right now she just buried her face in his chest.... half of her face. She was carefully not to rub her cut against his skin. That would hurt. "I don't want to hurt you," she murmured. "Where are you injured?" She smiled a bit when she heard what he said. "Well, I'm sure nobody will blame you for canceling. And if you don't cancel, I'm sure nobody will mind if you sit in a rocking chair like some cranky old grandpa," she teased. She relaxed against him, enjoying the comforting presence next to her. cal(Ugh sorry it's short and gross)

Levi's face lit up when she mentioned her own jeep. That was another reason he liked her, Riley had great taste in cars. "Oh I wish I could get another Wrangler, they are just so expensive. And although I saved the money I got from my job, I didn't save enough for another car like my baby. Instead, I'm going to have to settle for some Toyota that was driven by a 85 year old lady with too many cats," he cried out, laughing a little. His ribs hurt and he let out a little yelp.
"You could never hurt me Riley, you're too small for that," he teased her. "I'm surprised you haven't seen that half of my stomach is covered in bruises. I have two broken ribs, a sprained wrist, and a nasty black eye. Nothing too back, except that moving, laughing, and anything in general hurts to do," he let out a tiny chuckle so it wouldn't hurt too bad. Pausing he looked down on her, hesitating before asking, "How about you? Other than your sick cut and gimpy foot," Levi couldn't help but joke with her, trying very hard to make light of the subject.
"Oh but I miss all my buddies from high school! Do you remember them at all? You have to remember big Dave! I love that man, I haven't seen him in months! And what about Jerrod? All the football guys will be coming over, there'll be drinks, and not just apple juice, if you know what I mean," he winked at her, "There are a couple people from the grade below me and people from your grade coming too! I would love to cancel and just spend the day with you, but I don't think that's possible now. Will you come?" he asked hopefully. "I know we aren't in the best shape but all you have to do is look cute in your bikini and sit in one of the lawn chairs if you don't feel like walking around."

Riley smiled a bit. "Oh, you'll get another car like your baby one day. I promise," she said. She would definitely have to talk to Sutton. Maybe they could do a little fundraiser? If Levi was well liked, people may be willing to donate money so he could get himself a car. "Oh, well, maybe you should buy a couple cats then. We'll get you a nice little grandma wig and some butterscotch for your purse," she teased. This was so much better than suffering alone in the guest room. "Well, maybe if you weren't a giant," she grumbled. She actually liked that Levi was much bigger than her. It made him more comforting. "I haven't been looking st your stomach, dummy..." she said. She'd been staring into his eyes since she got into his room. She winced at his list of injuries. "My ankle And my cut and my wrist," she explained. She held up her hand for him to see the large brace around her wrist. "I'm surprised you didn't notice that," she said, mocking his earlier comment about her not noticing the bruising on his stomach. Riley smiled as he talked about his friends and she had to nod. she laughed a bit about the drinks not being apple juice. "So, you're saying it'll get wild later on?" she teased. "I'll come," she agreed when he pointed out that she could just sit and look cute if she didn't want to do anything. "On one condition. Come sit by me sometimes so I don't look like a total loser," she said. cal

Levi pouted a little. "But you know how much of a dog person I am," he whined a little, "I can do the wig and butterscotch, but the cats would drive me bonkers! Have you smelt how bad their pee is?" he joked around, bringing himself to laugh. He thought he was funny. He was so glad Riley had come to visit him. "I'll play the grandma and you can be the grandpa. We'd be a cute old married couple!"
"Oh come on Riley, admit it. How could you not stare at this hot bod? It's okay, I get the temptation. You don't have to lie about it," he smirked at her. He loved giving her a hard time. When she listed her injuries as well and ended up teasing him, Levi smiled and then stuck his tongue out at her. "Aw poor baby, does someone need me to kiss their injuries to make them feel better," he half teased her in a voice that would be used for a baby. "Would that make you feel better?"
"Oh I'm counting on it Smalls. But you will have no part in the consumption of their substances or else there will be words," he scolded her playfully. Levi let out a little excited sound when she said she would come. "Well you always look like a loser, but I guess I'll try and make time for you," he smirked, kissing her forehead so she knew he was joking.

"But they're crazy old cat ladies, not crazy old dog ladies," Riley pointed out. "If you have the car, you have to have the cats. And yes, we'd be the cutest old married couple," she said, thinking back on how she'd actually imagined that. She'd always had a stupid little kid crush on Levi and had imagined being a cute old couple with him. Now she saw him with other girls and didn't want to be just another one with a broken heart. "I'm pretty sure Finn has a container of butterscotch at home, so I'll steal it for you," she said Riley rolled her eyes at his words. "Someone's got some confidence," she said. He did have a nice body and even Riley couldn't lie about. Of course, she hadn't thought of how she was pressed up against his shirtless body until he said that and her face turned slightly pink. When he asked if she needed him to kiss her injuries, Riley nodded. She was going to make him go through with that, even if the offer was to tease her. "I'd love to see you kiss my injured ankle," she teased, a challenge in her eyes as she stared him down. "But I think you're the baby that needs kissies on his owies." Riley chuckled. "I'm 18, Levi... I can handle one or two," she said. She knew he was watching out for her, but she didn't think that meant she couldn't have anything to drink. "I'll even let you hang around to protect me," she promised. "Oh, you know you wouldn't be able to stay away from me," she teased, closing her eyes when she felt his lips on her forehead. cal

Levi couldn't help but laugh. "Of course Finn would have butterscotch! Such an old lady at heart," he said, laughing hard. Again there was pain but it was becoming duller so he just pushed through it. "Mr. and Mrs. Capps. Or would it be Mr. and Mrs. Muller? Hmmm, well since you're the grandpa, I guess it would be Capps. Mrs. Levi Capps at your service," he said in his best grandma voice, "Would you like an expired butterscotch my dear? You're looking a bit thin, let grandma fatten you up."
"Oh, you're gonna wish you hadn't said yes Capps," he smirked at her. Letting go of her, he crawled to the edge of the bed, running his hand slowly down her bare leg. Reaching her ankle, he softly lifted her foot up so it was by his mouth. Levi didn't break eye contact with Riley as he tenderly placed a soft kiss on her ankle, setting it back down. He moved to her wrist, leaving a trail of soft kisses from her wrist up to her elbow. Levi's heart was pounding. Should he really be doing this? What if she thought he was weird? Pushing away his thoughts, he continued And finally, when it came to her cut, he moved so he was hovering over her and started at the top of the injury, leaving little kisses down to the end. He thought about how close he was to her lips, but again, he pushed the thoughts away. Drawing away from her, he looked at her face. To lighten the mood, he started laughing. "You should see you're face," he giggled, laying back beside her. "And well since you offered, I would like some kisses for my owies."
"I don't know, the last time you had alcohol, I had to come pick you and Sutton up because you went to sleep on the person throwing the party's couch," Levi pointed out. "Okay fine, but if any punks try and come your way, I'll throw them in the pool." As she closed her eyes, he whispered, "Maybe Capps, just maybe."

Riley rolled her eyes. "He'll punch you if you tell him that... I don't think you being one of my best friends will change that." Sutton was her true best friend. She couldn't see anyone, even Levi, replacing her. Of course, that didn't mean that Levi couldn't be close to his sister. "Mr. And Mrs. Capps... sounds good," she said with a laugh, smiling at his grandma impression. Yes, she'd made a good choice coming in here and she was just glad to see that Levi could make her smile on a night like tonight. "But, uh, if I'm you're husband, then you wouldn't be calling yourself grandma," she pointed out. "That's what you think," she commented softly, her eyes following him as he lowered himself down to her feet. She winced slightly as he took her ankle in his hand, but she didn't make any noise. He was trying to be gentle. She found herself smiling when he kissed her ankle, still watching him as he moved up to her wrist. "You're a dork," she whispered, watching him until he reached her face. Her heart pounded as he kissed down the cut, feeling how close his lips were to hers. When he pulled away, there was a mix of disappointment and relief. When he commented on her face, she felt her face beat up even more. "Oh, I'll make your face even worse," she whispered, half happy that he wanted his owies kissed because she wouldn't have to look him in the face. She started low, bringing herself down to his stomach. Very lightly, she kissed as low on his bruise as she could, placing a couple inches between each kiss. When it was down, she moved to his hand, not wanting to try and get her face into his sling. Then came his eye, her lips lingering there for a moment before pulling away. "Feeling better?" She asked, her voice low and quiet. When he commented on the last time, her face turned pink. "Well, I'm already sleeping in your guest room so it'll work out," she reminded him. At his threat, she smiled. "I wouldn't expect anything else from you, Muller," she teased. She knew he'd always have her back, especially when it came to creeps at a party. cal

Did Levi imagine it, or was there a slight blush to Riley's cheeks? He couldn't be sure because the only light they had was the moon coming from the window. Taking him up on his offer, he watched Riley move down. He let out a barely audible hiss when Riley's lips touched his skin. He didn't know if it was because of the sensitive area or is was the freeing of her soft lips on his side. I felt almost intimate, something that would've been shared between lovers, not friends. Levi had been with other girls before, but this felt different. He couldn't describe the feeling he had, it was so alien to him.
He almost protested when she moved away from his exposed stomach and gave his hand a little peck, moving to his eye. Levi saw her face, so close to his. Her skin was so soft, her hair coming down to tickle his shoulder ever so slightly. He kept his face very calm and like his heart wasn't beating a million beats per second. Riley pulled away and looked at him with her brilliant eyes. Clearing his throat so his voice wouldn't break, he said in a deeper, rougher voice, "Much better, thanks love." He didn't want it to end.
"I'll always be your bodyguard," he whispered, propping himself on his good arm so he could just look at her. His gaze flickered tp her lips many times while looking at her. What was he doing? This was Riley! He never looked at her the way he was now. What was happening to him?

Riley was thankful for the darkness of the room. This all felt so strange. The closeness. The kisses. It was harmless, right? That's what she was trying to convince herself. They weren't actually kissing. Just trying to make each other feel better. They were friends. They cared about each other. She'd do anything to bring a smile to his face at the moment. If it meant kissing him where he was hurt, she'd do it. She tried to convince herself that's all that was happening, but it didn't explain the pounding of her heart or the blush on her cheeks. Her lips had lingered a little too long on his eye, but she didn't mention it. She had just enjoyed being so close. The way she could practically feel his skin. The way she could definitely feel his breath. It had been comforting. When she did pull away, there was a small smile on her face and she listened to his words. "It's what friends do..." she said quietly. That was definitely not what friends do, but she didn't say that. They couldn't have feelings for each other. Well, theycould, but they could never be more than friends. Riley smiled, watching him shift his position. "I know you will. Me and Sutton... you care about us both," she whispered. She knew it was true. Levi had his flaws, but Riley knew he cared about her just as much as he cared about his sister. "And I'll be here for you whenever you need it..." cal

Why did the word friend hurt? It meant that nothing more than the teasing going on here would ever happen. That was what he wanted, right? Then why did the term friend make him want to cringe. Levi felt his smile fall a little, but recovered. "Yeah, what friends do."
"Yes both you and Sutton. My little sisters," Levi said. He appreciated that they both cared about him so much, but maybe he wanted something more from Riley. Sensing that his emotions were getting the best of him, he laid back down and closed his eyes. "It's getting late Riley, we've had a big day. We should try and get some sleep." Why was he acting like this? It wasn't Riley's fault that she would never look at him any differently than just a friend. who knows if he even wanted that anyway. He was being stupid and Levi knew it but he still kept his eyes closed and didn't say anything. He didn't want Riley to see how upset he felt right then. How frustrated he was that he didn't know what was happening to him and that despite being like a sister to him, he might be wanting more. Jeez what was wrong with him. Running a hand over his face and through his hair, he hoped that would calm him down. Gosh he was a mess and it was all because Riley Capps had gotten to his head.

He didn't like what she said. Even Riley could tell that And her own soft smile faltered a bit. "Friends..." she repeated, not quite as happy with the title anymore. She wanted more, but she knew that could never happen between her and Levi. Levi was her best friend's brother and she couldn't do that to Sutton. She didn't want her best friend to be a third wheel and she didn't want it to be awkward if things with Levi went bad. Friends was all they could ever be and it hurt. "Little sisters," she repeated. Just like 'friends', the title didn't seem to fit how Riley felt about Levi. It was something that she had never felt before and it confused her. "You know, Levi. I was terrified today. But at the same time, there's no one I'd rather be in an accident with. You make me feel safe, even when I'm not." She didn't want Levi to get hurt, but being with him and helped her hold it together right before the car crashed. She closed her eyes, thinking of how horrible she'd felt when she woke up and had no idea what had happened to her boy. When Levi suggested they sleep, she nodded. She wanted to press herself back up against him and have his arm around her again, but she just barely let their arms touch when she laid back down. She didn't want to make Levi uncomfortable if he didn't want her to be that close. Of course, that didn't mean it didn't hurt to have him shut down and pull away just when she thought they'd both starting to feel better. cal
