So this is a recommendation on some slurs that should be added to the censored list. I could not find the censored list (If there is one) So I apologize in advance if these are already in the Censored List. So ableism is the discrimination of people based on if they have a mental illness or a disability. These slurs can be very common, so it may seem to provide a problem in replacing them, because some of them can be very mainstream. Here they are: 1. Cr*zy 2. St*pid 3.L*me 4. R-Word 5. Ps*cho 6. N*t 7.Sp*z 8. Idi*t 9.Imb*cile 10. D*af 11.Bl*nd 12. Inv*lid 13. Ins*ne 14. D*mb

Why "Stupid" and "Dumb?" I spent, like, fifteen minutes trying to figure out another way to say "Sorry if this makes me sound dumb". Plus, "Psycho" is used in fanfics quite a lot. Blind and deaf are simply words stating a loss of senses, and are not offensive. Also, nut? How will people be able to discuss things like, say, peanuts? I agree with items items 4, 7, and 9, but not the others. Perhaps 13.

Valid Question, you can look at this link if you want more info on why they're slurs: thebodyisnotanapology.com/magazine/stupid-is-an-ableist-slur-breaking-down-defenses-around-ableist-language-liberating-our-words/But if you don't want to read that it basically says they're slurs because it insults people with cognitive impairments, autism, down syndrome, ADD, and other developmental disabilities. I know these words can be used quite a lot, like you said with "ps*cho" by especially with fanfics, but with fanfics and writings, you can easily get around using the words by using more in depth descriptive words, or describing the situation more. And I meant when the word nuts is being more like "They're so Nuts!" rather than, "I like nuts" In the first example it's being used as a synonym for cr*zy. And 13 generally refers to people who have mental illnesses in a negative way. I hope this cleared things up! If not, feel free to ask me more questions c:

while i agree with censoring the r-word, as that definitely is a slur, i believe most of these words are just insults or words with negative connotations and don't carry the same weight. in fact, some of these words, such as blind and deaf, aren't even insults, they describe actual conditions people face and censoring those words can do more harm than good to them. if referring to someone physically disabled, i agree using lame can be offensive, but i rarely ever see people use it in that context. i do suffer from mental illness and i am on the spectrum, so i might not speak for everyone. i see the merit in some words being censored, but a lot of them don't carry the weight of actually being used specifically to harass and dehumanize a large group of people.

uh yeah I’m actually disabled with more than a few disabilities and some of these would be ridiculous to add to the censored list. there’s a fine line between being an advocate or ally who is respectful and being a completely out there SJW.

btw I am physically disabled with conditions I’d rather not discuss and mentally disabled with bipolar disorder type one along with being high on the autism spectrum.

I apologize, I'm still pretty new to the whole ableism thing. Thank you for telling me though.

To my knowledge, the r-word is already censored.
As for the other words, ones like “blind” and “deaf” are not slurs. They’re an implication, a condition that people have.
“Stupid” and “dumb” can be used differently than in ableism. I do not find these offensive, but that’s just my opinion. You can call something (not someone) stupid or dumb.
“Invalid” is no way near an insult or slur. It has different meanings. One could say “the transaction was invalid.”
For the five words I listed above (excluding the r-word), it all depends on usage and intention of the word. So, if you do not like the way a word is being used, then as Roswell stated, if these words really bother you to a point that you find them offensive, then feel free to download an extension through your browser.

Some of these words may not be used as insults. If they are seen as insults, report them, and moderators will handle the issue.
