Hollystrike replying to Mossthorn.
A soft, low chuckled passed the young tom's throat. Had he upset Mossthorn? He hoped not, but he also didn't mind; there was something amusing about the grumbling tom. With a softened gaze, he watched ahead of them and parted his jaws to take in the scents around them. Water...snakes? They shouldn't be this far up, but that's a situation for another day. I can smell smoke, but that's probably just from the volcano, right? To double-check his suspicions, he looked to the mountain ahead of them. As expected, it was smoking; though not too badly. He expected that they'd have to be more cautious around it, for now.
"Of course," he mewed softly. "If I have to take her on, I'll make it quick but know that I will not stay around for long; it's best to retreat if you smell blood or anything. Worst come to worse, we meet back at the entrance to the camp," it seemed like a solid plan, in his opinion.
As if fate wished for them to find the vixen's nest, he caught a whiff of her fresh-scent. With his tail, he gestured for the smaller tom to follow him and began to track it, belly low to the ground. Try not to make a sound, when tracking predators, his old mentor's words rang in his ears. If you can't stand somewhere they can't detect you, then use water to cover your scent. That wouldn't be too hard, with the river nearby. He supposed that she wanted to be able to get back and forth the source of water without having to stray too far.
We're not far from where Sagestar was attacked. The thought ran chills down his spine, and he paused momentarily. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea, but he didn't want to seem like a coward in front of Mossthorn. He swallowed thickly and continued onward with long, slow strides.
Mossthorn to @borderline
``Sounds right. What do you suppose we do if someone finds out about this? Even if we're successful what we're doing is technically not allowed.``
Mossthorn waited for a response, listening around them as they trailed on, his black ears swiveling while his tail feathery tail moved behind him like a snake. He tasted the smoke as well, it's ashy flavor faint in his mouth, and glanced up at the mountain, a thick plume of grey smoke floated out the top into the blue sky like a grey column. Not much different than usual, noted. Shifting his attention and stepping as lightly as he could, he tried to listen past their soft footfalls- but suddenly a good whiff of the female fox's scent flooded his nose, and he glanced at Hollystrike: his expressive face showing that he'd noticed too. There she is, he thought, muscles stiffening. With a look and a gesture of his tail, the smaller warrior followed in his paw steps, pressing himself low to the ground and taking advantage of their size difference, hiding in his shadow.
As Hollystrike lead them across the scent trail, Mossthorn's paws brushed through various underbrush, when he was suddenly met with something incredibly gross, sticky and warm. He jumped back in surprise, his fur bushing up into a spiky black ball as a few dung flies buzzed away at the disturbance. ``Oh, gross, gross!`` He hissed through his teeth, frantically twisting around behind his companion and trying to get it off his paw. ``Actual fox dung!`` The warrior tasted bile, rubbing his foot against the base of a tree and huffing: ``I guess we found your scent disguise.``

ravenpaw replying to ghostpaw in the forest Ravenpaw didn’t know what was happening at first, so he just copied Ghostpaw’s movements and lowered himself into the tall grass. He finally noticed the scent and sight of the fawn and he realized that he had never actually hunted big prey like this before. After all, he was only an apprentice. He wasn’t strong enough to take a deer down by himself and not social enough to bring others with him.
He whispered to Ghostpaw, “Yeah.. How should we do this?” This wasn’t the type of prey where the classic move where one cat would chase the prey into the other’s deathly claws would work. No, this was too big for that. Ravenpaw thought that maybe one should just rush in and get on its back while the other attacked from below, but he waited for Ghostpaw’s input. Unfortunately, the black tom wasn’t too skilled at hunting deer or goats yet.
He kept shifting around, trying to get into a good position in case a strong leap was needed for their attack. If not, he could just start his run with a jump. Luckily for him, his pain started disappearing and he felt a bit better. Or maybe that was just because he had gotten used to the annoyance of the stinging. Of course, his movement wasn’t going to be perfect but it was going to be good enough. Ravenpaw made a mental note to visit the medicine cat after they had enough adventure for the day. He finally stopped fidgeting and crouched completely still. The only part of him that moved was his constricting pupil that thinned out into a slit.
Ravenpaw could almost taste the deer on his tongue, albeit it was a very faint flavor since he had only tried it once or twice in his early apprentice days. Really all he could remember about it was that it was good.
He hoped that the two apprentices would be able to kill this deer, and it soon clicked in his mind that there would probably be a mother nearby. Ravenpaw felt a bit bad, but he comforted himself by reminding himself of his hunger and life as a predator. The black tom wished that the mother wouldn’t come back to fight for her child. That would really cause some problems for the two. It made him a bit nervous, but he was sure that if she did come back, they could just climb in a tree and escape when she gave up and left.
Ravenpaw started thinking of the praise they would receive upon bringing the fawn back to camp. It wasn’t a full grown deer, but it was still something. It would still be pretty impressive for two apprentices to kill a deer, so Ravenpaw promised himself to try his best. His gaze quickly flickered over to Ghostpaw to check if he was getting ready to move yet. One ear twitched with something like irritation; though not a short-tempered cat, he was rather worried. He didn't know Ravenpaw very well, however, and knew that he could not call out a lie even if he thought he saw it - perhaps it was his own imagination that played tricks on him, told him that there was an issue or a falsehood where there wasn't actually one. His gaze flicked down to the limp in the older tom's step and he decided that no, he was not imagining the false words.

Hollystrike replying to Mossthorn.
The thought of being caught had crossed his mind, naturally. He had no doubt in his mind that even if they were successful, they'd be told off - probably reverted to apprentice duties for a little while, maybe even stuck with the Medicine Cat duo. A sound came from his throat, something between an eh and a mrr, perhaps dismissive of the question. Even so, he answered.
"We deal with the consequences, I guess. If we're lucky, we can pass it off as her moving along. If we're unlucky and they know, then we take responsibility to get a lesser punishment?" it seemed like a sound enough plan. "But if you don't want to get in trouble, then I can take the blame. They expect this sort of thing from me."
Because of his appearance or because he was a troublemaker from time to time; the options were there, and he knew it would be believable to older warriors if he turned out to be a reckless cat. Though Hollystrike did not like that general idea, he could vaguely accept it. It was just one of those things - it was a part of life that he'd come to terms with, albeit somewhat unwillingly.
His nose wrinkled at the scent of fox dung, and he squinted at it. I'm not rolling in that, he thought, I'd have to sleep in the river to get it off. He shook his head a few times and turned his head, scenting around until he found a tree with vicious claw marks in. That would hold a heavy scent; it was how they marked their territory, too. Hollystrike rubbed his body against the tree, careful not to override the scent with his own, but ensuring that he had the scent of fox around him. After sniffing himself and becoming mildly disgusted at being in his own skin, he flicked his gaze to Mossthorn and twitched his ears.
"Her den's probably at the base of one of these trees," he said, "we'll have to lure her out if she's around here."
Ghostpaw replying to Ravenpaw.
How should we do this? It was a valid question, but Ghostpaw hadn't quite thought it through. The fawn seemed entirely oblivious, blinding nosing at the grass but not eating - perhaps it was not quite ready to graze yet. It wasn't like a mountain goat - he knew that those, even the babies, were prone to attacking. This was a fawn, and he'd heard warriors mention them being defenceless if their mothers weren't around. When he parted his jaws, he couldn't smell the mother. Just the fawn.
"I think it's ab-ab-ab-abandoned," he said, after a few moments. His heart weighed heavy in his chest at the thought of that - perhaps it hit too close to home - but he pushed it aside. The clan needed feeding, and it had been a long, long time since anyone had brought deer back. He knew that it took entire hunting patrols to get a fully-grown deer, but a fawn? That was kit's play!
He shifted his weight between his paws and lowered himself to the ground, assessing the situation. It was a shaky thing, couldn't have been more than a few days old. That meant that its mother should have been around. He continued scenting, trying to catch any faint scents around - and then it hit him. A rusty smell, metallic like the scents of twolegs but not quite. There was something sweet to it, too. Blood? he thought. They were nowhere near any attack sites from the fox, which meant...he glanced to Ravenpaw and swallowed.
"It's going to be a m-m-m-mercy-killing if we kill it. I think its mother might h-ha-have been killed," suddenly, the adventure didn't feel so great anymore.
If something could take down a fully grown mother doe, then it could take out a couple of apprentices who weren't yet fully-trained. Maybe it was the fox, he thought, but somehow doubted. She was a vixen who needed to keep her strength; she would probably not be strong enough to take a large prey animal on by herself.
"We-we-we should g-get the f-fawn and g-go as fast a-a-a-as we can," his teeth clicked together slightly and he wiggled his haunches. "Y-you go to the front and g-go for its neck, I-I'll grab it by the b-back legs. S-since it's y-young, it shouldn't be too - too - too hard."
The sooner they got out of here, the better. They could drag the fawn back and collect their buried prey as they went, and go back to camp. He did not want to meet with whatever had killed the doe, especially when it was outside of the twoleg season. It worried him and he knew it would be wise to tell someone - but it was easier to take the prey and go, in his opinion. He could only hope that Ravenpaw felt the same.
( your layout is so fancy i Love it you are the coolest omg it's okay!! i don't mind )

ravenpaw replying to ghostpaw the forest
"Abandoned?" the word surprisingly soothed him. That and the fact that it was already injured made him feel a lot better about killing this fawn. No mother would be looking for it and it wouldn't be suffering anymore. This was going to be an easy hunt for them, considering all of the doe's troubles. Although a small note of sadness hung in the back of his head for the deer, it was nothing compared to his predator instinct, hunger, and craving for praise. A deer being brought to camp after so many moons? It would truly be impressive!
Ravenpaw saw Ghostpaw's expression change for a little and he questioned it but didn't bring it up. "Maybe Ghostpaw feels bad for it," he assumed before turning his head back around to the deer. His gaze shifted and focused onto the neck that Ghostpaw had pointed out. The black tom nodded, letting the other apprentice know he had listened to and planned to follow his directions.
Ravenpaw could also smell the twoleg-like scent but he brushed over it after giving it a few seconds of thought. He guessed that it could've been involved with the reason the deer was injured, since he couldn't pick up the scent of other any animal that could do this. The black tom wasn't too sure what happened, but he ignored it. His hunger overwhelmed his sense of danger and wariness at the moment but it would most certainly be a thing that he would wonder about back at camp. His mind also seemed to quickly shrug off the part about going home quickly. He wasn't too sure on why Ghostpaw would want that now, but he pushed it to the back of his thoughts so that he could focus on the deer first. The deer would be taken down first, then his questions could be thought about.
Surprisingly, his excitement for the deer had made him cease talking all together. Usually he would babble on about how he was so ready to bring this back to camp, but not this time. He didn't want to scare off the doe, especially when it was practically giving itself to them. Maybe if the deer did start running, they would be able to catch it anyways. It was wounded, after all.
The black tom waited in anticipation for Ghostpaw to make the first move. Ghostpaw didn't mention the order that the attack would go in, but he assumed that the fawn should be restricted of movement before he went in for the killing bite. Ravenpaw was sure that this plan would work, especially on a puny little thing like that.
( it seems that i have overestimated the power of a little deer :oo )

Ghostpaw replying to Ravenpaw.
He wondered, briefly, if he was underestimating the situation. What if there were things he hadn't noticed, what if the blood scent wasn't the mother (though he was almost certain it was) and it was another random doe? It wasn't as if the deer were separate; the entire herd moved as one, and if there had been a predator to kill the fawn's mother, he felt like maybe one of the other does would have helped out. Ghostpaw's nose twitched similarly to a rabbit's as he tried to assess the situation properly.
It was stale, but he could scent the deer's herd; it had to be a few days old, which meant it was older than the fawn. Nobody's coming to help it, he thought, ears half-pinning as he circled around, belly low to the ground. It gets no second-chances, it just ends up a meal for some wild cats. There's no StarClan for it, and it will not keep its life.
He couldn't help it; he found himself comparing his scenario with the fawn's. Like it had been, Ghostpaw had been an abandoned kitten, had lost everything he'd known but could barely remember, nowadays. He remembered the strong paws of the twolegs picking him up, remembered being held by the scruff as if the twoleg were his mother. Then, he remembered the icy cold of the river, remembered thinking I can't swim, help me - but realised soon that his twoleg was not going to help him. Against all odds, he'd been caught by something else; and so his life in MoltenClan had slowly but surely begun. While he and the fawn had abandonment in common, this one did not have a savior. Deer aren't that intelligent, he thought.
By now, he'd circled entirely around so that he was behind the fawn, barely a fox-length away from it. It continued to nose around the grass, tongue sticking out from time to time as if it were searching for something. It turned its head in his direction, ears perked - and he saw the pale milkiness of its eyes that suggested that it was blind. Injured and blind and alone, the herd too far to come save it. This was definitely an abandoned fawn, and he supposed that the mother had been unlucky on her way away from it. His nose wrinkled and he crouched down. It's okay, he thought, we'll put you out of your misery. It's a mercy-killing.
Before it could flee, Ghostpaw pounced and his jaws closed around the fawn's back leg. As expected, it struggled and began to move forward, but not without kicking out wildly, high-pitched sounds escaping it. One of the kicks hit him in the side and he hissed in pain. He'd underestimated how powerful fawns could be, he supposed. Ghostpaw scrambled to his paws and grabbed a hind leg with his jaws, tightening them until it had a young cat stuck to it. It continued to kick out and Dark Forest, it hurt to hold on. No wonder it took multiple warriors to take this thing down. Unable to help it, his jaws released their hold and he flopped to the ground, out of breath and in some pain. He could only hope that Ravenpaw would've taken action to get its neck - though, either way, the fawn was done for. Now, it had an injury and had wasted energy.
I still underestimated it, though, he thought, ears pinning against his skull. That was stupid.
( ghostpaw underestimated it more than anything 0: though, newborn fawns are Pretty Useless - it's not a stretch to say that a couple of young cats would take advantage of a young one. usually, the mother will protect her newborn until its a little stronger. some of them just end up with mother nature going against them )

ravenpaw replying to ghostpaw in the forest
Ravenpaw leapt almost immediately after Ghostpaw did, clinging onto the fawn's neck and clamping his jaws down. Upon seeing Ghostpaw get kicked so unexpectedly, he gasped and accidentally let go. He stumbled quite feebly onto the forest floor before leaping back up in a ball of energy to ensure the kill. His claws hooked him onto the deer's neck again. Fortunately for him, the doe was in no position to kick him like she had done to Ghostpaw. It was also very helpful that the other apprentice was holding the fawn and weakening it, otherwise he wasn't too sure that he would've killed the deer on his own. After all, Ghostpaw had done much of the work.
The deer collapsed with a thud and the black tom beamed proudly. Ecstatic, the tom bounced over to Ghostpaw's side. "We did it Ghostpaw!" his tone suddenly changed, "Ghostpaw, are you okay? It looked like you got hurt pretty bad there..." Although he was delighted over their success, he felt a little bad that he had been assigned the easier job. He felt the familiar need of wanting to seem like the role model after thinking that. Again, he was only two moons older, but he still wanted to. That was pretty hard now, since he had gotten much closer to Ghostpaw than they were at the beginning of this exploration. He snickered a bit to himself, realizing that he wasn't as calm and mature as warriors as he thought he was.
He wasn't really sure what to do next until he remembered Ghostpaw's suggestion to go home quickly. Ravenpaw examined his dirtied white pelt and bruises here and there from the skirmish with the fawn. Although he wasn't too sure about the reason Ghostpaw wanted to hurry back to camp, he was fine with it. After all, they should both go visit the medicine cat. The thought of that reminded Ravenpaw of his earlier injury, which now stung because of him paying attention to it. How annoying. However, now he felt better about going to the medicine cat. He wouldn't have to go alone, even though it still would've been a little embarrassing since he had gotten his scratch from a dumb mistake.
Ravenpaw wondered if Ghostpaw would still hang around with him in camp or if that was it for today. He hoped that the white tom would stick around for his collection of things he considered pretty. His time spent being social with another apprentice was so nice that he would've felt a bit empty and tired afterwards if left alone. He wanted to keep this energy up, since it contributed to his happiness. At the same time, he wanted to go rest and he wasn't quite sure how he could take a nap while talking to Ghostpaw. Of course, he wouldn't try to force Ghostpaw to converse with him if he didn't want to, although it may be hard because of Ravenpaw's ability to endlessly chatter. Just having someone with him was comforting.
( honestly im not too educated on animals so thats p cool to hear... :0 )

Ghostpaw replying to Ravenpaw.
Upon seeing that Ravenpaw had successfully done his job, Ghostpaw felt a burst of pride. For the second time that day, he'd worked as part of a team to bring down prey. It was...nice. It made him feel like part of the community, like he belonged - and that was a feeling he had been longing for. Perhaps it had been a matter of socialising more; perhaps he should have made more of an effort to make a friend or two. He wasn't sure if Ravenpaw counted him as a friend, but he knew that he counted the older apprentice as one.
He pushed himself to his paws and shook himself out, wincing a little at the pain in his side. It would ease, he didn't think anything was broken - just bruised. Turning his head to survey his own pelt, he twitched an ear to show that he had heard Ravenpaw and was simply assessing the damage.
"I'll be o-o-okay," he said, shaking himself out once again. "Since it was ju-ju-just a baby, I don't th-th-thi-think it was too s-strong. I got off lightly," his laugh was a soft one, though mildly pained. "L-like your leg, it's okay."
Would he be bruised and ache-y later? Oh yes. Did he mind? Not too much. The next hurdle was to take the fawn back to camp, so he approached it and prodded it with one paw. It would make a good meal for the clan, he realised. It wasn't too skinny, and it seemed...decent enough, beyond its blindness and the fact it had been abandoned. Other animals are cruel, he thought, flicking his gaze up to Ravenpaw and waving his tail slightly.
"We - we can t-take it back to camp by dragging it, so it w-won't be too hard," he nodded firmly.
Catching a deer had to be fairly up there in his highlight moments; perhaps catching the bird earlier was up there, too. Though he hoped that instances of impressive hunting would happen more often, he knew not to expect too much. Working as part of a team, though, certainly helped make everything easier. He thought that maybe, just maybe, he'd enjoy it more if he made more friends or if he found lasting bonds. Ravenpaw was a nice cat, could carry a conversation - that was pleasant and something he found that he was looking for. Ghostpaw was not a particularly brilliant conversationalist unless prompted, and he knew that could get frustrating, for some.
But growing dread filled in his chest, and he realised why after a few moments. "T-th-the warriors are g-go-going to skin us a-alive," he stated solemnly. "I-it's our f-funeral. T-th-this is our f-final meal."
( finger guns i was in vet training for a lil while and i live in the country & worked on a farm so all things lead to knowing Useless Stuff sometimes also i love the ravenpaw image jsyk its cute af, did you draw it? 0: )

Bluerabbit starter.
Staying close to camp seemed to be the in-thing to do for some warriors; though he'd noticed those leaving as duos, primarily. He watched the world through half-closed eyes, paws tucked underneath his body and ears half-flattened. To the world around him, he looked as if he were dozing, looked entirely unaware and oblivious. He was as calm as could be in the heat of the day.
It would be nice to go the base of the mountain. The smooth boulders there were perfect for sunning. They were comfortable, and most importantly, they were often safe. As it was, he had to stay in camp as he didn't particularly wish to ask anyone to leave with him, and he didn't particularly want company if he was going to sun himself. It's supposed to be a relaxing time, he thought. Ah, well. MoltenClan camp managed to dapple the sun, making it near-impossible to sun properly. He could accept that, though he found himself rather restless. Staying near camp was a painful experience for a tom as free as Bluerabbit often was, and the subtle buddy system that seemed to be in place was just frustrating.
But he had to accept that this was what it took to keep MoltenClan safe. He, of all cats, should've known the best; though he was bored and wanted to distract himself from everything, he knew that to stay safe was a priority.
Bluerabbit wasn't quite sure if he'd call the feeling he was feeling loneliness. There was certainly a sort of emptiness that came with losing his best friend and brother, someone whom had been with him for his whole life. Though he had had a couple of moons to accept it, it was still hard to get used to. There stood no sharp-grinned warrior, pressuring him into social interaction. He had lost the connection he'd had to the rest of the clan, found himself distant even from his older sister. He wondered if this was how it was, now. Did he mind? He wasn't sure. The delicate tom's head angled upwards and he blinked opened his eyes, staring up to the leaves of the trees above. Everything happens for a reason, he mused softly, pushing himself into a sitting position and twitching his ears. But I have yet to find that reason.
Perhaps there was nothing and he was grasping at nothing, but Bluerabbit wanted to believe that there had been some higher reason that Whitefox had been killed. There had obviously been a reason why Sagestar had died; but that was a leader, and leaders always seemed to have a more meaningful death than an average warrior.
Have to get my mind off this, he thought idly, finally standing up and arching his back in a stretch. Once he felt the satisfying crack, Bluerabbit hopped over to the fresh-kill pile and studied it thoughtfully. The queens, he knew, had been fed a little earlier - but he suspected that the apprentices would not have given enough prey. Considering the apprentices of the clan were preoccupied with other things (mischief, he supposed), he picked up a fat rabbit and headed towards the Nursery, ears still half-flattened.
He knew that so far, there were three queens. If two apprentices had been in earlier, that meant that either one or two of the queens had been fed, but perhaps not the final one. Bluerabbit didn't know which one this would have been, so he simply dropped the kill and sat patiently, one ear swiveling to listen for sounds behind him.
"Prey," he said in his soft voice, because he had no doubt that a hungry queen would move to collect it. He didn't need to specify anything. Even as a 'paw, he'd never really needed to explain what he meant. A closed cat he was, yes - but he was blunt enough that his meanings came across when he wanted them to.

Fallenshadow relaxed in the shade of the quiet nursery, her stomach growling with hunger. Those apprentices had come earlier, but they had only brought enough prey to feed two queens, and had nothing left for her. It was quite dumb for the other queens to gobble down the mice an voles when they weren't pregnant like her, they didn't have to carry this burden like she did. They should have saved some for her and not gobbled all the food down right in front of her face like they wanted to tease her. Anger coursed through Fallenshadow's fur as she recalled the moment, the dreaded moment. She should have gotten at least one mouse or vole. She couldn't believe the absurdity of the whole thing, the queens attitude and also the apprentices irresponsibility. Maybe she was being too harsh, maybe too greedy. I guess the queens also need to eat too...Maybe I'm being too greedy. I'm probably just tired from the pregnancy, it has sucked a lot out of me. But they still should have given me some at least. I need to eat more then they do, my kits need to eat too.
Fallenshadow stared down at her swollen belly about ready to burst. She winced as she felt one little paw jab her stomach. They always did that though, kicking and flipping and running around in her stomach, causing her lots of discomfort and pain. Wow, it was such a pain having kits. Sometimes I wonder why I even got pregnant. I never really wanted kits anyway. I just saw that rogue, so big and beautiful and I just couldn't resist myself. I was so stupid, so dumb. I have learned now to be careful with toms, I can't let myself fall into one's paws again.
Fallenshadow was worried for her kits, especially when they got to be apprentices and warriors. She knew they'd be looked down by the clan since their lineage was unknown, that's always how it was with rogue kits. Well, I guess they'd only be half rogue but that didn't make a difference. Cats always focused on how other are different, and not what special skills they could have and how they could contribute to the clan. Even if one of my kits had potienal to become a deputy, they would never be chosen by the clan leader. A couple tears trickled down Fallenshadow's face as she thought of the hard life her kits would probably have.
"Prey."
Fallenshadow perked up at the sound of Bluerabbit's voice and also at the mention of prey. She licked her lips, imagining the lovely taste of a juicy mouse. Prey would taste so good right now, she was so hungry that cramps had started in her stomach, although it could be the kits too. Whatever it was, she knew that she was hungry. Fallenshadow slowly crept over to the prey, a smile brightened her tired face as the sight of a dead mouse entered her vision. Ah, it looked so delicious, so juicy.
Fallenshadow lunged forward and scarfed the mouse down, not caring how messy she was eating. The taste of the mouse flooded her mouth, making her feel so, so good. She closed her eyes and smiled at the satifaction of full stomach. It felt amazing. When she opened her eyes next, Fallenshadow noticed Bluerabbit standing in front of her. Her eyes widened and she blushed a little in surprise. Bluerabbit! I didn't notice him there! Fallenshadow, coming out of her surprise, regained herself and shuffled herself into a comfortable position. "Thank you for the prey Bluerabbit." Fallenshadow meowed politely, dipping her head in thanks.

ravenpaw replying to ghostpaw the forest
The black tom looked down at the fallen deer again, still overflowing with pride. Similarly to Ghostpaw, Ravenpaw didn't often use teamwork to catch prey. It was hard for him to make friends sometimes, but for the completely opposite reason as Ghostpaw. He felt a warm feeling flutter around in his chest and he smiled at Ghostpaw. He really enjoyed the white tom's company, even if he was quiet sometimes. He sort of understood his silence, so he didn't mind much.
"We should do this more!" Ravenpaw exclaimed, "We're friends now, right?" Maybe it took more than this to become friends, but Ravenpaw didn't care. It was fun, being with someone else and sharing his success with them. He wanted this more, in fact, he craved it. A subtle touch of friendship had somehow made him realize how starved he was of attention and companions. Although he didn't know why, he felt a little sad for himself but it was quickly washed away by his happiness.
"We should still visit Dawnlily though. Better safe than sorry, right?" Ravenpaw purred. It was kind of weird saying that now, especially since he had totally rejected the offer of visiting the medicine cat earlier when he tripped. Seeing Ghostpaw get hurt, even if it was mild, let him understand how Ghostpaw could've felt when he fell.
When he heard Ghostpaw say that they should drag it back to camp, he nodded and grabbed one of its legs in his jaws. Ravenpaw looked up at Ghostpaw, waiting for him to grab one too so that they could both move it. His mouth watered a bit, tasting the prey on his tongue. He couldn't remember if he ate today or not, but he would definitely have a piece of this deer when they returned to camp.
"Maybe we'll be promoted to warriors!" Ravenpaw half-joked to himself. Nope, he would have to go through the Trial of Lava. He soon remembered that he was one moon away from trying it for the first time, but he had experience climbing through Moltenclan territory! However, his realization that some cats stayed as apprentices until 15 moons made him doubt himself a little. He made a mental note to go practice some more before his trial.
Upon hearing Ghostpaw say something so... scary, he released the deer's leg. "Huh? Why? What's wrong? What did we do?" Fear pricked at his pelt and he uncomfortably shifted around. They didn't do anything wrong, did they? No way. They had gotten a big piece of prey for their clan and some other smaller animals on the way. Ravenpaw would've stayed calm and taken what Ghostpaw said lightly if it wasn't for his serious tone in voice. He had heard that tone before when he mentioned twolegs, and he felt a little afraid for both of them.
( that's really cool hh :0 i've always wanted to get involved with animals more but i never really did rip and yeah, i drew it, ty!! ^^ i added some random details like the dots under his eyes just because i like designs like that lol )

Bluerabbit replying to Fallenshadow.
His gaze flicked over the nursery and noted the absence of Burntpetal; he suspected that she was still with Feathersong. Honestly, he'd kind-of wanted to meet the kits; but then again, he didn't think that many had seen them yet. His nose wrinkled and he took a moment to assess the walls of the den. Though mossy, it was warm and it was certainly serving its purpose - he could see why it was a comfortable place, even if he didn't come here often.
When Fallenshadow was done with the rabbit that he'd brought, he glanced back to her from the corner of his eye and twitched an ear in acknowledgement. If he was remembering correctly, the queen had been expecting for a moon - which meant she had another moon to go. At least Burntpetal's kits would be more active by then, so the nursery wasn't likely to get too crowded. He knew plenty of queens who had unknown toms as the parents to their kits; he remembered when Ghostpaw had entered the clan, though that had been a little more controversial due to the nature of his appearance. Rogues and loners joining the clan was no strange feat; it was kittypets who were frowned upon, but even then, he noted that they had a few cats with kittypet lineage, and even a former kittypet.
MoltenClan was a welcoming clan, and he suspected that the kits raised in this Newleaf would be fine and happy, in a clan that doted on them. Even now, he was itching to see the newborn kits; but if the queen was with Feathersong, he'd have to wait. For now, though, he focused on Fallenshadow. He'd seen Emberpaw and Ghostpaw enter earlier, with only a scrawny mouse and a very small rabbit. That would've been enough to feed two queens, but perhaps this queen had not been awake then. Regardless, Burntpetal had her kits not too long after, so she needed the extra energy. Redwish was probably just hungry.
"Of course, Fallenshadow," he mewed calmly. "I saw the apprentices bring a mouse and a little rabbit over this morning, but it wasn't too much," one ear twitched and he glanced over his shoulder to the entrance. "Why don't you get some fresh air? It has to be better than being cooped up in here."
He didn't quite understand it when queens stayed within the nursery. Was it a safety thing? He didn't think that the clan's camp was dangerous, but hey - what did he know? Maybe there was a hidden secret to having kits that he didn't know about.
Bluerabbit remembered a time where his sister had been in the nursery to help out raising some of the kits they'd found abandoned a long time ago, but she was a cat who could not be contained and she'd often ended up sitting outside. Yes, it was warm in the heat of the day - but there were shady patches and it was possible to go back into the dens if it was too warm. Ah, well. He didn't really know how complex the life of a queen was, so he couldn't really say much.
Ghostpaw replying to Ravenpaw.
"Y-y-yeah," he blinked owlishly, taking hold of one of the deer's legs and beginning to pull. "We-we-we're friends."
Friends was something nice, and he was glad that the other tom felt the same. Ghostpaw thought that maybe - just maybe - this could be the start of his social life within the clan. Would it make him immediately more confident? Probably not, no. Would it help? Yeah. Yeah, it definitely would. He found that he was rather excited to grow older and to be seen as an equal to the warriors; while it seemed that Ravenpaw was his only friend at present, he'd like to gain more. It would be nice.
"D-d-definitely," he said, one ear twitching as he continued to drag the fawn along. "S-sh-she'll know what t-to do a-an-and if sh-she's b-busy, F-Feathersong w-won't mind."
He'd have to talk to them anyway; Dawnlily and Feathersong, he supposed, were his road to finding some sort of aid in overcoming the pure anxiety he felt when talking to others or when around other cats. This had been better and this had certainly helped; already, he felt a little more comfortable in the presence of the older apprentice. It was comforting to know that he was capable of interacting and communicating, and even mores so when Ravenpaw wanted to be friends. Already, he felt like his life was getting better. MoltenClan's life was hard at the moment, but he was pleased with where he was.
When the fawn's leg was released, Ghostpaw - still pulling - yelped at the sudden weight and stumbled briefly before regaining his footing. He let go too, lifting his head and perking his ears. Oh.
"I-I'm partially joking," the young tom looked a little sheepish, ears half-pinning. "S-so-sorry. We m-might get ch-chewed out a little bit, b-but s-since we're safe and we b-b-brought back prey, we sh-should be o-o-ok-okay."
At least, that was the hope. Considering the dangers of the territory and the fact that they should've brought a warrior along, Ghostpaw could certainly see warriors (especially their mentors) chewing them out rather harshly. But with that said, he couldn't bring it in himself to mind. Maybe they'd get off lightly with a warning from the Medicine Cat due to their mild injuries (he hoped, at least, that they were mild); perhaps the deer would take everyone's minds off it, would get them praised for their catch rather than scolded for leaving. Most likely, though, it would be a mixture of both.
"It sh-should be fine," he murmured, picking up the leg again and tugging. "We'll probably g-g-get yelled a-at a little, m-m-maybe stuck to elder's d-du-duties if we're un-unlucky. B-because w-we came out with-with-without a warrior."
( 0: animals r pretty cool.....i did anatomy study for a while and that was fun, but im way better with the general health and uh? habits of animals, more than anything else. that's fair, it looks really nice! your style is very pleasing on the eyes )

ravenpaw replying to ghostpaw the forest
Friends. The word felt good, especially to a lonely extrovert like Ravenpaw. He guessed it was a bit funny, being someone who found so much happiness and energy from being social but being a loner at the same time. The black tom would try to be a bit more quieter, as he noticed that was what drove most cats away from him. Yes, it would be very hard since his mind seemed to never stop coming up with things to talk about and he had a big mouth. Maybe he'd just find other cats who enjoyed that kind of talk.
After seeing Ghostpaw stumble after he let go, he gasped and apologized, "S-sorry Ghostpaw! I didn't mean to do that," while he was free from a deer between his teeth he continued, "You were half-joking... But I guess you're right. Clan rules... I don't think we should get in trouble at all! We're providing for the clan." He was disappointed that they could scolded for leaving camp even though they brought back a plentiful amount of prey. They didn't get into too much trouble while they were out, there was no need for a punishment!
Ravenpaw felt embarrassed that he had gotten so worked up over something so simple. He wondered if Ghostpaw was not as worried as Ravenpaw thought he was. His voice was so stern that it scared him, so he didn't know how Ghostpaw could joke like that. It wasn't like he was offended or anything, just a bit surprised that the other apprentice had made it sound so believable. He snickered a bit about Ghostpaw tricking him like that.
But seriously, why should they get scolded? Ravenpaw felt that it was unfair but he wouldn't protest publicly. He'd probably just complain to himself and eventually get over it. The thought of getting jobs for the elders annoyed him. He hoped that it wasn't that serious. Perhaps the addition of a deer and other prey on their mischievous adventure would distract them from the fact that they had left camp.
Before he picked up the deer by the leg again, he asked, "What do you think that smell was? I don't think I've smelled anything like it before!" A part of the apprentice wanted to stay and go further into the landscape to figure out what it was, but he assumed that Ghostpaw felt very negative towards twolegs and wouldn't appreciate something like that. He'd have to go alone someday, or maybe he'd ask someone to go with him. Ravenpaw didn't seem too scared. In fact, the black tom wanted to be involved with it, his curiosity begging for a chance to meet whatever had been here.
His active imagination started working very quickly again, trying to imagine what kind of creature could've done that to a deer. A twoleg and another animal working together? Twolegs disguised by the scent of some strange object? Maybe even a weird twoleg hybrid! Could animals and twolegs fuse? He wasn't sure, but he knew for certain that they were cruel for killing off the mother and leaving the doe injured by itself to suffer.
( thanks !! <3 i want to study some more animal anatomy because all i can draw are stylized cats rip but animal behavior is really interesting too... i think i just need to learn more about animals in general lol )

Eagletalon;; [/w aether - sorry for late response]
Noticing the surprised response he received from Coalpaw, Eagletalon couldn't help but feel a little amused. Clearly Coalpaw trusted the clan completely as Eagletalon had came to do when he had grown to Coalpaw's age, it was heartwarming but given how there was a threat with a vixen on the territory, Coalpaw's lack of caution gave him some degree of worry. But Coalpaw handled himself well at the very least. He didn't seem intimidated like some apprentices would, so that was nice.
The honesty was also nice. He knew Coalpaw had no reason to lie to him, but he would have expected some hesitance or surprise at him directly calling out his actions. When met with neither, he chuckled softly, shaking his head. "They know quite a bit. If you need advice, I'd say they'd be a little helpful to you." Allowing his gaze to wander over to his fathers, he noticed that they were now accompanied by Ashstar. Interesting to say the least. "But yes, if Shadowstep catches your gaze he'll give you a look that could freeze the volcano over."
Seeing Coalpaw avert his gaze, he wondered if he was making his father seem a little too unapproachable. That was hardly the truth. He found that Shadowstep was hard to read, but he cared a lot about everyone because to him this clan was family. However, as Coalpaw continued, Eagletalon wondered if he bitten off more than he could chew. He was worried about the apprentice, but hearing the confession he was afraid if he said the wrong things it would come off as insincere especially due to how heavy the subject was. He was just glad Coalpaw was telling him.
Sighing softly, he glanced at Coalpaw trying to get a read on the young tom. "I'm sorry for your loss, it's hard to go through," especially for an apprentice. He was so young to have a pillar removed from his life. All Eagletalon could hope was that Coalpaw would find a steady pillar in the form of the clan. Now more than ever, he needed to feel like he belonged. And if going on the next patrol would help ease his mind off of that, Eagletalon wondered if he should brave his way into his fathers' conversation with Ashstar or talk to them later for Coalpaw's sake.
"I might be able to help with the patrol," he meowed before nodding towards the trio. "I'll see if I can get them you come along on the hunting patrol. But that might be a little difficult without Serpentsong."

Ghostpaw replying to Ravenpaw.
Perhaps his bluntness was something too much - but he had to admit, it was a little amusing that he'd been taken so seriously. He hadn't really considered that his deadpan expression accompanied by a serious tone would cause others to think he was serious when he wasn't; it was something he took into consideration, as...well. It was exactly his sort of thing. Deadpan humour. What could beat it?
"It's n-no problem," he laughed quietly, continuing to pull. As they came across the place he'd buried his bird, he dig it up and squinted thoughtfully, before setting it on top of the deer and continuing to pull. It stayed there for the most part, so he didn't have to overburden his jaws or come to pick it up later. His laziness, he knew, was impressive. Sometimes he just didn't feel like carrying things - especially while dragging a fawn along. We are mighty hunters, he thought, feeling a surge of pride in his chest.
At the mention of the scent, he felt himself tense a little, felt the fur along his spine rise a little. The smell of blood, the strangely metallic scent. His ears flattened and he glanced away.
It was a familiar scent, no doubt. He remembered it from when he was a kitten, remembered it so clearly that it was almost painful. And yet, even then - he couldn't quite pinpoint it, wasn't entirely sure on what to call it. So he shook his head head and took a deep breath, pulling the deer a little faster so that they could get closer to the camp.
"I don't k-kn-know," he said firmly, and did not continue the conversation from there.
( oof bleh response im sorry i know anatomy but i Suck at drawing i should practice more but here i am, being a lazy ho animal behaviour is super fun to learn abt imo. especially birds but then again im a Bird Enthusiast )

Shadowstep & Wolfshadow;;
Shadowstep knew full well he was being set up, caught in a hard place between Wolfshadow and Ashstar and there was no way out. Eyeing Ashstar out of his good eye, he wondered if Wolfshadow had the same look of victory in his eyes. If anything, it felt like Wolfshadow wanted the position of deputy more than him and the implications of this meeting was far from going over his head. Still, he couldn't bring himself to call out either one on it given the high context nature of their conversation, it was all very implied. "No need to thank us, it's our duty," he answered, emphasizing the us while leaning slightly into Wolfshadow to remind him that he was as much a part of this as Shadowstep was.
Before he could continue his answer however, he felt Wolfshadow move slightly beside him. Knowing his mate was about to respond, he rolled his eyes wondering how bad it could get. The answer was bad. The little - well, big mess of a cat he called his mate - was working against him in every manner possible. "Oh, I think he'll be able to figure out a patrol and lead it, can't you?" The subtle change in Wolfshadow's tone of voice was not lost on him.
He was amused. Flicking his tail sharply against Wolfshadow, he swore he would have his revenge somehow, but he wasn't going to drag the other out on patrol with him. At least this way, he could decline Wolfshadow from the patrol and advise him to rest in front of Ashstar giving him no choice but to listen to him. That was a pretty fair retribution, he thought smugly.
"I'll get together a border patrol," he agreed, though the 'leading it' part was a little over the top from Wolfshadow. "But you," he said tilting his head towards Wolfshadow to get a look at him, "should go rest. You haven't gotten enough sleep the past few days."
Wolfshadow huffed in annoyance at Shadowstep's low blow, but true to his request, he extracted himself from Shadowstep's side and stood up to his full height. Dipping his head towards Ashstar, he spared both one parting glance. "I'll leave you to it then," and something in Wolfshadow's eyes told Shadowstep not to screw it up. He supposed he could see how he could be of help. But there was no guarantee he would like this situation. At least, with any luck, if he wasn't cut out for this kind of work Ashstar would notice or he would be able to tell the other of his own disdain of the position.
And to think he was bothering himself with the deputy situation. It seemed that karma came to bite him in the end. "Do you need anything else from me?" He asked Ashstar, giving his full undivided attention now that Wolfshadow had retreated to the warriors' den.

ravenpaw replying to ghostpaw the forest
Ravenpaw noticed Ghostpaw's spiked fur and voice and immediately felt regret. He'd done this before at the start of this adventure when he mentioned wanting to encounter a twoleg. He felt dumb for bringing up twolegs again even after Ghostpaw's first reaction. "S-sorry. I guess you don't like talking about that..." He would've asked why but he didn't want to make the other apprentice feel even worse, so he stopped himself.
He didn't want to offend Ghostpaw any further and just continued dragging the deer through the forest without any words. It was hard for him to talk with a deer leg in his mouth anyways. Like Ghostpaw, he had also collected his small mouse on the way back. He also thought Ghostpaw's idea of placing the extra prey on the deer was smart, so he did it too. His mouse catch wasn't as impressive as what Ghostpaw did with that bird, but he didn't care much. There was no need to feel superior anymore. Sure, it felt nice to receive praise and admiration, but he would have more chances later on.
Because he couldn't speak, he thought some more. What would he be doing later today? When he got back to camp he knew he wanted to eat a part of the deer they had caught, visit the medicine cat with Ghostpaw, and show off his gathering of pretty objects. Other than that, he didn't know what he would do. He might just rest and lounge around camp, who knows?
Ravenpaw looked at Ghostpaw every now and then, making sure he was doing okay with his side of the deer. It would've been a shame if they caught something like this but struggled to bring it back to camp. Luckily, that wasn't the case. He then started thinking and wondering about Ghostpaw. He wanted to know why Ghostpaw hated the topic of twolegs so much. Yes, they were predators of Moltenclan, but he'd never seen someone so uncomfortable about it. Maybe someone he knew got killed by a twoleg, or he was just scared of them, or... He soon ran out of ideas and just decided to let it go. That question was definitely for another day.
( srry for the late reply, i was playing overwatch with my friends ^^; i've only really reference and study anatomy when im trying to draw realistically so my style is kinda weird rn ripp birds are really cool.. and other smaller pets like rodents and snakes are pretty rad too!! im more of a cat person tho )

Fallenshadow Replying to Bluerabbit Nursery
Fallenshadow's tail flicked around, she felt much more energized after that mouse. She still felt tired, but the cramps had ceased. She predicted more would come soon, that'd be no surprise with the pregnancy and all but she still hated them just as much every time they came. The day will be wonderful when they end. Thought Fallenshadow, thinking of that day coming up very soon. It would be painful, but at least she could be done with most of the pain after the birth, and she could see her beautiful kits. She hoped they all looked like her and not their father, so there wouldn't be further gossip about them in the clan. There probably was already tons of gossip about her, but that didn't come as a surprise.
Fallenshadow smiled a little, then frowned at Bluerabbit's words. It would be nice to get out of the nursery once and awhile, take a walk in the woods like she used to, practice hunting and fighting and all would be right in the world, but she was in confinement, confinement of the nursery. She felt trapped often, like she was poor and weak hiding under the safe shelter of the nursery. But the truth was that she wanted to help the clan, but was unable to because of the kits she carried along with her, everywhere. It would also be hard to go out because of the pain she felt when moving. She needed to keep her belly still, to ease the pain. Even crawling out from the back of the nursery hurt her stomach. She could try to go on a walk, but she was afraid it'd hurt too much.
Although it would be a nice chance to talk to Bluerabbit, someone other then the queens she lived with. She barely saw one of them, she was with the medicine cat, and she didn't really like socializing with the other. They were quite boring to her to be honest. Mothers were always boring to her when she was a small kit, she always wanted to go adventuring on her own. She remembered the time when she made a promise to herself, one day in the woods, to never become a mother because the young me thought it'd make me weak and useless. And truthfully, it did. And she hated it. Fallenshadow hated it so much.
Fallenshadow looked down at her swollen belly and frowned. "I don't know. I would very much like to get out of this old place, but it hurts whenever I move." Fallenshadow tried to be brief, she hoped Bluerabbit would understand why she couldn't go, why it hurt to move. She didn't want to hurt his feelings or anything, she probably wasn't but she didn't really know him that much, so how could she know?

ok rage, i specified in both of my posts that he brought her a rabbit & you realise it's not normal to be in agony every time she moves, especially if she's a month away from having her kits, right? that's only halfway through the pregnancy. i'll be doing replies soon, but i just wanted you to know that the pain isn't a normal thing. cramps, yes, some pain, yes - but constant pain that stops her from moving around much is not.
