“That is an offer I can’t pass up on.” He grinned. “Though if I can’t catch two, I’ll clean your nest.” He stated seriously. He started sniffing the air, hoping to make out the scent of mouse.. though at this point he could not. He could, however, make out the faint scent of squirrel. The large Tom lowered himself towards the ground, and started moving south in an attempt to find a mouse.

[ ashstar's trying his best ]
Ashstar ;;
"It's a sudden turn of responsibility that I wasn't sure if I was ready for," he glanced up from the remains of his meal - though the bird was almost all gone, now. Ashstar finished it up before he settled down to groom himself, licking his paw before he drew it over his ear. "But I know, now, that I'm ready for it. I don't know if it was the courage that StarClan gave me or not, but I'm grateful nonetheless."
He flicked his tail.
"In my opinion, it's not too far from being a Deputy. It's hard work, but when done right..." the lean tom paused in consideration, "it's rewarding. Anxiety-inducing, but rewarding."
Feathersong ;;
It was as stressful for him as he expected it had been for Burntpetal; but he was glad that everything seemed to go well. He remembered everything he'd learned even in the heat of the moment, and though he could not see these kits, he could hear them and he could sense their heat - and he felt a warm pride glowing inside him. The young tom's whiskers twitched and his head angled towards the queen.
"Help you name them?" he repeated, suddenly all shyness. It showed his age, in that moment; while during the process he had been mature and calm, now, he was back to his usual self. He ducked his head and lowered his head to nose one of the kits. They were so...so small, so delicate. He wondered if they knew what was going on; he knew that he hadn't known, at that age. "Burntpetal - while I would be honoured, I can't..."
I can't see them, went unsaid. As much as he would have loved to have been able to name some kits, without knowing what they looked like - could he truly do that?
Ghostpaw ;;
Was that...success? A little surprise that the older apprentice had accepted his invitation, Ghostpaw's ears perked up and his tail waved in the air, excited for the possibility of a new adventure. When Ravenpaw began to move, he followed eagerly - pausing only briefly to glance over his shoulder lest any warriors try to stop them. It seemed, however, that they were more occupied with other things (aside from Poppytail, who watched them with half-closed eyes), and so he shrugged his shoulders and padded onward.
"Th-the forest seems like a go-goo-good idea," he chirped softly, "maybe we could ca-atch some prey..."
Or would that ruin their exploration? He wasn't sure; Ghostpaw, himself, enjoyed hunting as often as he could. There was something satisfying on the rare occasion he was able to snag a bird mid-flight, or when he could outrun a rabbit. Earlier, too - with the teamwork with Emberpaw, that had been satisfying. Maybe they could recreate that here!
As his excitement rose, his long legs allowed his stride to become longer. A cat like him made easy work of the tall grass, his tail-tip sticking up from the top. He didn't seem to notice (and if he did, then he didn't care), and continued on his merry little way.

Briarsong smiled, “you’re handling it wonderfully.” She mewed softly. She looked around the camp, she could only imagine the stress that came with being responsible for every life in the camp. “I’m honestly slightly in awe with how level-headed you’ve been through all this.” She stated, tail flicking slightly. “Many would’ve already cracked under the pressure.. Sagestar was wise to have you as her successor.”

Wrenstorm purred softly. She was happy never having had kits because atleast she had been blessed with someone like Riverwillow. The elders eyes followed the Tom's before she glanced back at Riverwillow, shrugging. "I don't know, I still am firm in my belief that everyone will be loved and will love some one atleast once in their life." she chuckled softly "Even the a tom who acts hard as stone itself."

The She-cat laughed, rather loudly “He does act like stone from time to time! Ever since I’ve known him! Even when he found me, he was more TELLING me that I was coming with him, rather than asking me to come with him.” She giggled. She glanced over towards the medicine cats den, from the sound of it Burntpetals kits had been born. “I hope all went well!” Riverwillow stated.

Ravenpaw smiled, glad that his suggestion prevailed over the other non-existent recommendations. His paws gently led him through the familiar path towards the forest. As he walked he purred, "Hunting sounds good! I think it'll be fun. We could try getting some rabbits, those are my favorite! What's your favorite prey?" The tom's mind buzzed with different conversation topics, ready to shoot another question at Ghostpaw every time he had the chance.
He almost forgot about the actual reason why Ghostpaw invited him out, and he began wondering about what they would find during their exploration. He hoped that they wouldn't ever encounter the fox that had killed Sagestar or any other dangerous creature. Although he was usually confident in his abilities, he wasn't too sure if he could win a fight against a fox. The tom put those thoughts away, not wanting his mood to be ruined by his worries.
Without giving Ghostpaw a chance to answer the first question, Ravenpaw snapped out of his thoughts and asked, "What do you think we'll find? What if we saw a twoleg? I've never seen one up close."

SORRELWING | Outside Camp | Crowstrike Sorrelwing's eyes narrowed at the prospect of the challenge and she nodded, "Sounds good to me - since I'll win," she wasn't a very competitive cat, but for the moment, she was feeling relaxed, and it made her a little more playful. She crept down low and sniffed the air, crawling low until she caught whiff of a rabbit. Not interested in that, she continued further again, glancing back quickly to make sure Crowstrike was still in sight. Soon, she picked up that delicious scent of a mouse, she licked her jaws as she slipped under a shrub. Nearby, the small grey mouse nibbled at a nut in its tiny hand. With light steps, Sorrelwing moved around to ensure she was downhill from the rodent. No where to run, she was in position. With unsheathed claws, she burst out of the shrubbery and pounced onto the mouse - it was hers, and she killed it swiftly. She turned back towards Crowstrike with it hanging from her jaws, her eyes were unusually bright. She'd forgotten how it was to have a challenge with a friend.

Crowstrike watched the She-cat make her kill and he sighed slightly. ‘Sorrel-1... Crow-0’ he thought to himself. He sniffed at the air and caught the scent of a mouse, slightly north of where Sorrelwing had just caught hers. Upon seeing it, he lowered himself towards the ground. He unsheathed his claws, letting them into the dirt a bit. He watched the mouse for a moment, and the moment he went to attack... so did the snake he didn’t see. The snake quickly bit the mouse and wrapped itself around it’s body. Crowstrike turned to Sorrelwing, laughing, “Did you SEE that?!” He was baffled. “You’ve got snakes on your side...” he joked. He enjoyed seeing how happy hunting made Sorrelwing, it was a fantastic contrast to her usual self, she was more like the she-cat he’d grown up with.

SORRELWING | Hunting | Crowstrike ♥𝒵𝒪𝑀𝐵𝐼𝐸𝒢𝑅𝑅𝐿♥
Sorrelwing had kept her eyes on Crowstrike as he'd stalked his mouse, and had been equally surprised when a snake came from a different direction to steal it from under his paws. When he turned and looked at her, she was wide eyed, but her eyes were also amused. Bad luck, she thought. Luckily he'd stayed hidden and the snake hadn't tried and strike him. "I'm not hiding anything!" She meowed, turning in a 360 just to prove it. "But it does mean I'm winning, and you're almost going to have to clean my nest," a little cheekily, she added, "I like it lined with feathers." She buried her mouse under some dirt to return to it later.

Shadowstep & Wolfshadow;;
It was a long day spent hunting, given that Burntpetal had just given birth to her kits, there were more mouths to feed. Especially with the pesky fox on their territory, the prey was hard to find. They were scared and wary, the way some of the clan cats were and with good reason to. Had he been given the choice, Shadowstep knew that without a doubt Wolfshadow wouldn't have thought twice about braving the forest himself but at his insistence, he'd given in. Though the other tom was stubborn and brave and everything a dedicated warrior should be, sometimes he tackled more than he could handle. There was a reason why it took Wolfshadow the full time up to his 15th moon to become a warrior and succeed the Trial of Lava.
The trial itself had been a great lesson for Wolfshadow, but Shadowstep still worried about the other. He had a knack for getting himself into trouble even with his age. Shadowstep had assumed that with age came wisdom, but for Wolfshadow it was valor and duty. Eyeing the other as he trailed slightly behind to keep a watch over their rear, he wondered if Wolfshadow was sated with his contributions for the day. Shadowstep had a sneaking suspicion that at the slightest chance, Wolfshadow would offer to be on the next border patrol to keep the fox away from their young. It was just the kind of cat Wolfshadow was.
His whiskers twitched in fond annoyance as he sighed, turning away to gaze out into the forest, there travels through the tall grass safe. They had yet to stumble upon any complications and the usual banter between them was dropped in favor of silent companionship. It left him time to think about the situation a little more.
He respected Ashstar, but the tom had yet to appoint a deputy and he wondered if that was a smart decision or a bad one. Ashstar couldn't just choose any warrior to be his deputy and Shadowstep knew that. He would find himself unfit for the duty and wasn't certain he could name a perfect candidate that could be a perfect right hand the way Ashstar - or formerly Ashdapple - had been to Sagestar. So he didn't blame the hesitance, but with the pressing threat of the fox he wondered if there was time to consider the matter for far too long.
His thoughts, however, were rudely interrupted by Wolfshadow who flicked his tail into his face. Lifting his gaze, he glared at his mate only to see the other's mouth curl around the prey in a smile. Clearly he was insinuating that Shadowstep was thinking too loudly. Huffing to himself, he tried to keep his mind off the pressing matters that bothered him. He didn't want Wolfshadow or his kits to wear themselves thin. Perhaps he was overthinking too much and worrying himself.
Dropping their catch into the fresh-kill pile, he sighed, scanning the camp quickly to see if he could catch sight of Willowfrost and Eagletalon's distinctive forms but he didn't see either of them. Heading towards his favored corner just near the warrior's den but not close enough that he would be caught in the gossip, he settled down. Maybe they were on patrol or perhaps they were still resting. He had lost sight of their shift schedule when he had caught Wolfshadow trying to join the night patrol and stopped him from going by convincing him to go with him at dawn.
It had worked to say the least. Hearing the familiar sound of Wolfshadow's steps he tilted his head in the direction of his mate to be met with a gentle headbutt that caused him to huff in annoyance before he realized a mouse had been dropped at his paws. "Come on, eat up," Wolfshadow muttered, showing his concern with his actions rather than vocalizing them the way Shadowstep was prone to doing.
Sighing heavily, he mustered a small smile as he took a bite of the mouse and nudged it back towards Wolfshadow who took his own bite. The two of them ate in companionable silence, a common trait between the two. They were both well attuned in the art of conversing in complete silence. "So," interesting that Wolfshadow was the first one to start the conversation this time around. Glancing at Wolfshadow from the corner of his eye, he waited for the other to continue. "You're worried."
"Am I?" He responded, tilting his head away from Wolfshadow and flicking his ear in annoyance at being called out by his mate. That wasn't how their dynamic worked.
He could hear Wolfshadow suck in a sharp breath, clearly equally annoyed at his dismissive response. "You have to stop worrying so much Shadowstep, it'll rub off on the others." Wow, rude. He wasn't easy to read, excuse Wolfshadow. Huffing, he turned to glare at Wolfshadow who met his gaze with unflinching determination. He hated how stubborn his mate could be at times. "I'm serious. Willowfrost and Eagletalon will pick up on it." And from there...
"I'll stop worrying when you stop acting like a mouse-brain," he huffed. "Stop offering to go on every patrol. You've learned it the hard way through the Trial. Pace yourself." He muttered, turning his head away and breaking eye contact first.
Wolfshadow sighed next to him, his body shifting with the gentle movement before he felt Wolfshadow lean in, resting his head against his shoulder in a gentle reassuring gesture. "You didn't say you were worried about me."
That sounded accusatory. "Well I'm not worried about the fox, I could take it on by myself," he huffed though he knew the statement to be completely false, the bravado made him fearless. He was a warrior meant to protect, he would never sway from his duty and battle against those who threatened his clan. And he wasn't lying. He was more worried about Wolfshadow being too tired to be prepared for when the fox striked. He trusted in Wolfshadow's ability as a warrior.
"Yeah," he could feel the rumble of Wolfshadow's laugh. "You could."
Settling his own head atop of Wolfshadow's he chuckled, the corner of his mouth turning up in a small smile. Closing his eyes briefly, he was reminded of why he loved Wolfshadow so much. His presence was grounding and despite everything, nothing felt wrong in Wolfshadow's presence. Though he feared their brief moment together would come to a halt soon when the next call for a patrol occurred because either Wolfshadow would leap to the duty or - in complete and utter spite - he would take it on himself to give Wolfshadow a brief moment of respite. StarClan knew he needed it.

COALPAW | Camp | Too nervous to approach Wolfshadow + Shadowpelt
Coalpaw sat alone in a small patch of shade - he preferred the shade over the sun, because the heat from the volcano kept him warm enough. He rested his chin on his paws, watching with deep green eyes as the Clan moved around him. He watched his mother from afar as she interacted with Crowstrike by the freshkill pile. A feeling of sadness made him feel glum - Sorrelwing had nodded to him when she noticed him, but didn't give him any other acknowledgement. After days, weeks, moons or that, he couldn't help the loneliness that gnawed at his heart. One day he'd prove himself. He was willing to wait. He'd wait as long as he needed if it meant that his mother would look at him with the love she had when his father was still alive.
He curled his claws into the hard, dry earth. His glum heart became fueled with determination, stubbornness. He had to be the best. His dark green dark turned towards the camp entrance as his mother left with Crowstrike to hunt. He narrowed them. Crowstrike had been like a father figure of sorts to Coalpaw, lending him a paw when he needed it. Being the best friend of his late father, it was nice to have him show compassion from time to time. He showed more compassion than his own mother, who couldn't look at him without pain in her eyes.
Coalpaw turned his head to Wolfshadow and Shadowpelt, the two toms rested together and Coalpaw couldn't help but envy their love and connection. He yearned for love and affection in his life - something he'd not received enough of in his short life. The two senior warriors, and their childen Willowfrost and Eagletalon, seemed to have a nice little family and he watched from afar, wishing and yearning. He had his mentor, Serpentsong, of course. But his mentor was harsh and bitter, although she cared for him, she did not ooze the affection that his heart needed.
He pushed himself up into a sitting position so he could lick his paw and swipe them over his head. He enjoyed the strength and passion that Wolfshadow carried with him, and the sense and intelligence that Shadowpelt dripped. But he had never worked up the courage to approach them, other than pleasantries. He didn't know how to approach them, what he'd say. He was so small and they were so much bigger and wiser than he. So he remained, alone, in his patch of shade. Unsure of what he should say, unsure of what he should do. Knowing only that he wanted to be the best he could be, but not really knowing how.

SORRELWING | Hunting | Crowstrike ♥𝒵𝒪𝑀𝐵𝐼𝐸𝒢𝑅𝑅𝐿♥

[ night C: ] The dark Tom sighed, then had an idea... ‘The snake isn’t very large ..’he thought. ‘And by the way it wrapped itself around the mouse.. it’s a constrictor, not venomous.’ He grinned, lowered himself to the ground once more, and attacked the snake, which quickly uncurled from the mouse to defend itself. The snake hissed at crowstrike and went to strike at his leg, but Crowstrike was faster and clawed at the snakes open throat, cutting it enough for the snake to rear back. That’s when Crowstrike decided to strike he moved quickly to the side of the snake, biting down on its neck, killing it. He then walked over to the mouse... And killed it quickly, as it was barely alive. He looked over at Sorrelwing, “I’m counting this mouse.” He decided.

Ghostpaw ;;
The forest felt alive. There wasn't much he could say about it. The sparse trees with spread branches dappled light onto the forest floor, pine needles had been pulled even this far from the base of the mountain, and the variety of colours was something that both fascinated and enamoured him. He could smell the prey scent beneath the grass, could sense almost where their burrows were and knew, from what he'd been told before, to steer away from the ones that smelled young. Let the prey reproduce, he thought, gaze flicking back to Ravenpaw.
"Bi-bir-birds," he replied, but it was just as the other apprentice asked another question.
Two-legs? he considered it carefully, crouching down and flattening his belly to the warm earth. He didn't like the sound of running into one of them. Ghostpaw shifted his weight a little to glance behind him, suddenly filled with an anxiety that he couldn't quite put away. His fur bristled, but after a moment, he took a deep breath and shook his head.
"Yo-you don't wa-want to run into them," for once, his tone was firm.
Ashstar ;;
"Thank you," he didn't need the compliments, but there didn't seem to be a reason to push them away. "Though we are in a time of great danger, we are also united by our losses. This will only make MoltenClan stronger, even if the future seems bleak at first."
Now done with both grooming and his bird, Ashstar's gaze flicked around camp. It seemed that a certain duo had returned to the camp - and he wanted to speak with them. He knew, logically, that it was rude to leave Briarsong - his head tilted to the side as he watched them from afar before he turned his head to look at the she-cat settled next to him.
"Excuse me," he said quietly, "but I see a couple of warriors I'd like to speak to. Thank you for sharing prey with me; it was appreciated. I'm going on a Hunting Patrol at sundown if you'd like to come."
That was a while from now, he knew - but it was better to hunt as the sun went down, as the fox herself seemed to be wary of leaving her den at night. That's good, he thought, and bad. Good because night hunts are safe, bad because she probably has cubs in there and knows that we're more active in the night.
He hated that vixens were intelligent when it came to their cubs. The protectiveness that came with young meant that the violence was almost justified. Almost, but not enough to kill cats who were nowhere near the den. Unlucky encounters turned deadly so quickly; in normal seasons, they could probably ignore the fox as it would ignore them, but it became to predatory when young was around that they just couldn't handle having it. Especially this one, in particular, as it seemed to be worse than any of the others they'd had to deal with. Sagestar had been worried when the vixen had first showed up - and then it had taken her life. He'd only been the Deputy for not even five moons before she'd died. It was a sudden change, one that was quick enough to cause him concern.
For now, though, he just had to deal with everything. Ashstar rose from where he'd been sitting and dipped his head to Briarsong, before trotting away at a quick pace.
"I could take it on by myself," it sounded like the tail end of a conversation, and the tom's pace faltered only momentarily before he realised he was too close anyway, and so he continued to approach before he sat down in front of the two, one ear angled to listen to the camp. It was strange, to think that he was the leader of two toms whom had once intimidated him; it wasn't a big deal, but it was still strange. He remembered his apprentice-days spent wondering if they were dangerous, remaining in awe of their presence. Nowadays, he knew better.
"Shadowstep, Wolfshadow," he greeted smoothly, tail curling over his paws. "You are more experienced than I," it was a start that he doubted sounded great. His gaze was more angled towards Shadowstep, though he did try to look at them both. "So - I'd like to ask. Would you mind assisting with patrols until I appoint a Deputy?"
It would have to be fairly soon, but still, he couldn't quite find it in himself to appoint one yet. He spent the days watching the older warriors, trying to decide who could withstand the pressure. It was a matter of who was qualified, too. So far...he supposed that he was only looking at senior warriors.

Shed been around for some horrid things, one of them being the cries of queens who had lost their kits. She shook her head, ridding herself of the bad memories that came simply with age. "We can visit later, if you'd like we can go out for some hunting?" She offered. It had been a couple since she snuck out.

"Sorry, I'm just excited! I thought I'd never become an apprentice!" As Applepaw stopped, she tasted the air. There were so many different scents, how could she distinguish between them all? How was she supposed to learn where everything is!
She could smell the scenes of the grass, the trees, the faint scent of prey nearby. Musky, earthy scent like of woodland prey. Mouse? Vole, perhaps? She recognized the scents.
"Prey?" she guessed. "Some sort of prey perhaps, but it's sort of mingled with the rest of the woods and territory." She looked at Lotuswave expectantly, hoping she didn't mess up. She had to impress her mentor. "There's a lot for woodsy like smell too." She added, laughing.
(Let me know if this still isn't big enough. Just came inside from yard work and I'm tired. Lol but hopefully this is good XD)

"Prey?" she guessed. Lotuswaves purred softly with amusement. She didnt want to kill that kit-like excitement and wonder but she also wanted to encourage her apprentices' growth towards a warrior. "It's fine." She watched Applepaw taste the air and nodded. She didnt expect the young cat to yet be able to pick everything up her first true try. "Ah, yes. But can you tell me what kind? Think back to the freshkill pile, what did mice, shrew, or even rabbits smell like?" She nodded, encouragingly. The older warrior tasted the air herself. The organ in the roof of her mouth told her there was mice and some common birds nearby, as well as the general earthy flavor of the forest.
