Hey guys here is question for you all: How do you all feel about Christians who don't celebrate and view poorly Halloween with the excuse being that they are Christians? Even though I'm like 99% sure Christians were involved in it's origins which confuses meOoh, good question. I love Halloween. My mother hates it. It's just a matter of perspective. The holiday is thought to have originated with the Celtic Samhain Festival, and the initial purpose of the costumes and 'scary' decoratives were to repel ghosts and demons, if I remember correctly. So, no, its origins haven't got to do with worshipping the devil or anything like that. That said, some Christians (my mom included) feel that it celebrates darkness, and for that reason, are put off by it. I understand that, but being a closeted goth myself, I quite like dark things (see: dark in aesthetic; I'm not talking the Occult, which I am very firmly against) and don't think appreciating them is inherently a bad thing. One thing I'm pretty sure everyone can agree on is that dressing up in a costume and eating candy, which seems to be of the foremost festivities of Halloween, is not sinful (so long as your costume is not immodest or profane). It's more to do with what you believe should be celebrated. I feel like Halloween will forever be one of those things that people have conflicting feelings about. I get what you mean about darker things as well which I guess makes it hard for me to understand other people's feelings? That is a good viewpoint.

Funny thing is, my mom doesn't like that 'Halloween celebrates darkness'... but literally all she and my dad watch are horror movies. Lol.

@spottedstar3137 ; So you'd like carving pumpkins then?
@jester ; that is hilarious! Maybe you should make her celebrate unknowingly by watching a ton of horror movies?

I love Halloween! Well, mainly the dressing up and the free candy... and carving pumpkins (and don't forget about the pumpkin seeds :3)
My dad also loves it, every year he tries to make our front lawn look even more impressive than the year before with all his decorations. He gets really into it, and has been telling me about his ideas for at least a month now xD

Haha, I prefer thrillers to horror films. Rosemary's Baby is one of my favorites, and it actually features a Satanic cult, as well as a woman pregnant with the literal spawn of Satan . My humble opinion is that you have to know your limits. Fiction is just that -- fiction. Enjoying a horror film featuring demons doesn't mean you worship demons... but if it clouds your mind and makes you think more of demons than of God, you shouldn't watch it anymore. Likewise, enjoying a fantasy film doesn't mean you practice magic... but if you find yourself considering magic, you shouldn't watch it anymore. So on and so forth. I wrote a comment similar to this way back in this thread but basically, culture, storytelling and film are not inherently sinful, even if they are secular... but if you are tempted to sin because of those things, you should avoid them.

My brother thinks that everything about Halloween is evil, so he won't even go get candy with me. But at least my friends will do it with me lol

No problem. Again, just my opinion. One of my closest friends still hasn't read or watched Harry Potter at 17 because she feels it glorifies the use of magic, and though I don't particularly agree, I really respect her devotion.

hey guys, please pray for my aunt. she's a great lady, but she's a pagan-buddhist, and some of her friends are asking her for help in riding their house of a malevolent spirit, and she called me about it last night. she was raised catholic, and she's really worried that it's something demonic, and she doesn't want to get in trouble by doing a 'cleanse.' so, please pray that she and her friends be safe, that they find themselves a christian pastor to bless the house, and that nothing else happens, cause her friends have a little daughter who's really scared.

Yeah, will do. You mentioned her when we were talking about the demon in your house- it sounds like she and her friends have generally gotten themselves pretty deep into some bad stuff. I pray that God brings her and her friends to Him and gets rid of the tormenting spirits.
