hey guys, please pray for my aunt. she's a great lady, but she's a pagan-buddhist, and some of her friends are asking her for help in riding their house of a malevolent spirit, and she called me about it last night. she was raised catholic, and she's really worried that it's something demonic, and she doesn't want to get in trouble by doing a 'cleanse.' so, please pray that she and her friends be safe, that they find themselves a christian pastor to bless the house, and that nothing else happens, cause her friends have a little daughter who's really scared. Yeah, will do. You mentioned her when we were talking about the demon in your house- it sounds like she and her friends have generally gotten themselves pretty deep into some bad stuff. I pray that God brings her and her friends to Him and gets rid of the tormenting spirits. indeed. i worry about her a lot.

I feel like some rules should be stricter? Definitely do not take guns away, as it only takes them away from law-abiding citizens.

Haha, I prefer thrillers to horror films. Rosemary's Baby is one of my favorites, and it actually features dude serious deja vu right now i walked in on my mom watching a movie called Rosemary's Baby on her computer just yesterday
also i saw halloween and harry potter mentioned aka two of my favorite subjects

oh oops we're talking about guns now
i mean from all the research i have personally done, overall violent crime rates don't decrease after stricter gun laws. and terroristic maniacs aren't going to look at a "gun free zone" sign and be like "oh well i guess we can't go in there," so i don't get how that's supposed to help at all. i mean, yes, there are some inherent problems with citizens having access to firearms, but imo the positives outweigh the negatives, especially compared to the alternate

Both of y'all are gorgeous I'm too shy to show my face publicly ahh >.<
As for guns, I do agree that there needs to be more background checks to keep guns in the hands of responsible people, but studies have shown that areas with no guns allowed are actually the most violent. No one can defend themselves

ahh y'all are cute.
but i do think we need stricter gun laws without banning them entirely. like, much stricter.

gracias
and i think more in-depth background checks, a longer waiting period, and even interviews with friends and relatives for people that are trying to buy fire arms would suffice

de nada
how long do y'all think they currently wait, and what constitutes "stricter background checks"?

not sure, not really an expert on the subject
as for the background checks, i would say obviously making sure said person or anyone living in the household doesn't have a mental illness, checking for previous jail time, things of that sort.

No problem. Again, just my opinion. One of my closest friends still hasn't read or watched Harry Potter at 17 because she feels it glorifies the use of magic, and though I don't particularly agree, I really respect her devotion. Honestly I'm not super well versed with the bible as I was a christian up until age 11 and then I had a few rough years and didn't practice the religion strongly until about a year and a half ago, so I never was really at an age where I could understand the religion well until now. What do they say against magic in the bible? I mean obviously magic isn't real and I'd imagine if people were to try and do it would make me think it'd involve demons or something. I've seen "spell books" (like for people who believe in magic) at barnes and noble and it weirds me out. Is it bad to wish magic was real? I just think the way it is portrayed in Harry Potter and books/movies that use magic is really cool and fun, I've always loved fantasy and I do wish sometimes that that type of magic could be real.

current background checks already check for jail time, as well as history of drug use and criminal past. Mental health history is also already checked through the NICS, so is any military discharges, and immigration status.
my problem is the default wait time in some states (i.e. if the fbi can't find a reason to delay/deny the sale after 3 days of the check submission they can't stop it)

i think it supposedly has something to do with "playing god"? like, you're messing with God's natural design of things or looking to other things to help you instead of him. Or I guess it might be that you're making yourself vulnerable to "that guy". The Bible outright condemns any form of divination (tarot cards, palm-reading, etc.) and necromancy, I think.
but yeah, magic is considered to be going against God I love the Harry Potter series to death, and I think the concept of magic is super cool, but I'm kind of glad it doesn't actually exist (that i know of) - i wouldn't want to be tempted, and I consider God more important so also, you can do some really creepy stuff with magic e.o

I can definitely understand that thank you for clarifying for me, and yeah I can see now why it wouldn't be a good thing for magic to be real.

Yeah magic is no bueno. Any supernatural power that's not from God is demonic. "Magic" is definitely a real thing in many cases, (as demonstrated, for example, in the Bible when Egypt's magicians are able to duplicate Moses' miracles) but it all comes from Satan, no matter how "good" or "harmless" it may seem. A few verses:
2 Corinthians 11:13-15: For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness.
Deuteronomy 18:10-16: There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead,
Leviticus 19:31: Do not turn to mediums or necromancers; do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them: I am the Lord your God.
1 Timothy 4:1: Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons,
I'd say there's nothing wrong with reading Harry Potter and such and imagining a world where magic is real (in the sense that it is in Harry Potter), as long as one can understand that it isn't real. This is why my parents didn't let me read Harry Potter until I was 13; they didn't want my impressionable young mind to confuse fantasy and reality.

Heard a story told on relevant radio the other day; a guy spoke about how he was a former occult priest (part of a witch's coven) and his experience with the consequences of consorting with demons, which drove him to conversion.
EDIT: I found the episode in the archives! It's an hour long, but it is very, very enlightening: (X) The man's name is Fred Wolff, and he talks about how he became involved, some of the extremes he witnessed, and what made hims top. Highly interesting 12/10 recommend.

Sounds interesting. I've read a lot of testimonies from people who were deeply involved with the occult and slowly realized that it was actually demonic, and then, desperate to escape, found Christ. Unfortunately, not everybody makes it out.
