Every Hero Has A Dark Side
People always believe the heroes that protect them are angels. They believe the heroes can do no wrong. Yet they do not, can not, realize that the line between hero and villain is blurred. For every villain, no matter how insane, has a light side. And every hero has a dark one.
Rules
>>Forum Rules: Follow all the forum rules. >>Stealing: I worked very hard on this Roleplay. If I find out you stole any of it, I will report you. >>Characters: All characters should have a flaws in both description and personality. No character should be overpowered. Only one major power, and if your character has more than one power, then the side powers must be minor powers that are related to the major one. The limit is three powers. All the heroes must have some sort of issue: AKA their dark side. This could come from their work or history, but it must be present. >>Activity: I am busy as well, so I only ask that you post at least once a week. By post, I mean you must Roleplay, not just pop in and say hello. >>Rating: Keep the rating PG to PG-13. Keep gore to a minimum, and use skip if necessary. >>Literacy: This is a semi-literate Roleplay. Good grammar and punctuation must be used, and you must have at least three lines per post. Two lines are okay on occasion, but one line is not. >>Powerplaying: While there are powers, do not godmod. No killing other roleplayer's characters without permission, no making your character the best, and no centering every plot on your character.
About
This Roleplay is a sort of 'dark hero' Roleplay. All of the heroes have a dark side, basically anything that could mean that the wrong thought or action can cause them to become villains. As for villains, all villains are criminally insane (think Batman villain insane). However, they all have something about them that means that the right thought or action can cause them to become a hero. So, the line between hero and villain is so blurred that it is almost nonexistent.
The City
Redfall City is busy with people and as such there is many places around the big city.
>>Holiday Apartments: A large apartment complex with cheap rooms. >>Author's Cafe: Small cafe on the corner of a street where people go to chat and lounge. >>The Golden Apple: A nice Greek-themed restaurant with expensive food. >>Harry's: A dirty bar with a code for underground dealings. >>Rotten Creek Prison: A large almost impossible to penetrate prison, made for holding super villains. It also has cells for the insane. >>Silverwater Juvenile Hall: A prison for underage criminals on the opposite side of the city from Rotten Creek Prison. >>Marigold Manors: The wealthy part of the city. With large homes and big, well groomed yards, only families with money stay in this area. >>Twisted Tower: A spiraling building that is the base of operations for heroes who have decided to work together. To enter, a hero musthave an entrance code and number. >>Dawn Academy: The city's public school. It includes middle and high schools, and is nearby the elementary. >>Dawn Elementary: The city's public school for elementary students. >>Evergreen Park: The city's only park. It is large, with open areas and woods. A popular place for all people to go. It also has a playground for young kids.

Every Hero Has A Dark Side
Heroes
Blade || Blake Russel Blake has dark skin, almost as dark as his nearly black eyes. His chin is square, his nose crooked, and his hair a buzz cut but otherwise he has gentle features. Blake stands at 6'1 and is extremely muscular at the age of 21. He has a red design tattooed around his left bicep and cross swords on the right side of his chest. Blake is serious about work. He is a good strategist and listens to others. He takes the blame when something goes wrong as he believes the leader should. Blake tries to be there for others, but his more strict nature causes him to be awkward when trying to comfort someone. As the hero Blade, there is no difference, as he rarely uses his secret identity. He wears a black muscle shirt and sweats with sneakers. He wears no mask. Two sword hilts are always visible on his back. Blade's ability is to pull blades from his body. He has the ability to make the blade, hilt as well, and pull it or shoot it out from anywhere. Because the sword is made from his own body, it's actually made of very little iron, though appears to be it. He can also put the blades back into his body, where they will dissolve. Because of his ability, Blade has a higher pain tolerance from the constant pain of pulling the swords out and putting them back in. He also has accelerated healing. Blake has abandonship issues. He will leap into battle and never leave someone behind because of this. When he was born, his mother died in childbirth because of complications with his abilities, and his father blamed the newborn. Blake was raised neglected, until the point where his father finally took him to the park at age 9 and abandoned him there. Blake later found his father when he was 17 and discovered that his father had a new family. When Blake decided to knock on the door and introduce himself when his father answered it, he was given a look full of hatred and the door shut in his face. < *Raincaller* >
Blaze || Brianna Johnson At the age of 19, Blaze isn't tall, only standing at 5'4. Her skin is pale, in contrast to her short black hair. She dyed her hair black, her natural color is brown. Her eyes are a blazing hazel green. She is muscular though small, and has a look that says not to mess with her. Blaze is anti-social. She prefers to be alone, the only company she keeps being her one and only friend Carl White. She can be blunt, rude, and otherwise unlikeable. Though she seems hateful, she has major social anxiety, and fears losing control of her abilities. She uses her attitude not only as a shield for herself, but also to protect others. As a hero, she wears a tank top, leather jacket, fingerless gloves, ripped skinny jeans and boots, all black except for her chain belt and necklace. To keep her identity, she wears a black mask. Blaze has the power over fire, able to make and control it. She is immune to heat and cold because of this. Blaze's anxiety comes from her past. Her mother was a scientist experimenting on superhuman DNA. When Blaze was three, she was just picked up from daycare when her mother got a call from work. Taking the child with her, Blaze's mother went to the lab. There was an explosion, which killed her mother but gave Blaze her abilities. Blaze was raised by her father, neither of them knowing of Blaze's new development until it was too late. At the age of five, Blaze was left with a sitter while her father worked. She was brought to the playground at the park, where the accident occurred. She was bullied by two girls, until the young Blaze was filled with embarrassment, hatred, anger, and fear. Her powers exploded outwards, killing the two girls and ten other children nearby, injuring everyone else in the vicinity. Surprisingly, she was not the only one to come out unscathed. There was another who was unharmed, a young boy. Her father took her away, left the city, and moved jobs for a while, until he received an offer three years later from Dikkons Inc. At the interview, he was forced to leave Blaze in the waiting room, where she met the young Carl White, son of the owner of the company. Carl recognized her, as he was the boy who survived unscathed the accident that traumatized young Blaze. While she was scared that he would get her in trouble, the two instead became friends, Carl promising to never let Blaze's power get out of control again. The two have been close friends ever since, and became heroes together, receiving training from the same mentor. Blaze lives in Holiday Apartments with her father, though she spends most of her time with the White family and Carl. < *Raincaller* >
Frostbite || Carl White Carl has lighter tanned skin, complementing his sandy blonde hair that falls a little past his ears. His eyes are ice blue and he has a few freckles on his cheeks. At age 19, he shaves regularly, keeping his entire body free of hair. He is lanky but fit, and stands at 5'9. Carl is kind and funny, but clings to his best friend. He always tries to be the great hero and save the day. He likes to talk and enjoys making new friends and meeting new people, though he tends to feel out of place. However, he fears being normal, and doesn't want to live a normal life. As the hero Frostbite, he wears a white ice skating outfit with thick light blue lines down the sides and around his waist. His outfit sparkles, and he wears a matching white and blue mask and boots. Frostbite has the power over ice, able to make and control it. He is immune to heat and cold because of this. Carl has major OCD. He needs things to be kept organized and everything to be in the right place. Carl has four older sisters and two younger brothers. His father is the head Carl's mother's family's company Dikkon Inc. Because of this, the White family is well known and rich, and owns a large mansion in Marigold Manors. His father's family passed down the gene enabling the powers of ice, and Carl's eldest sister, Suzanne, had taken the name Frostbite and became a hero at a young age. At the age of 30, she retired to focus on her career of Olympic gold medalist ice skater, and left Carl to take over the name. Two years of training later, Carl became the second Frostbite, basing his outfit on his sister's. Carl's two younger brothers, Peterson and Walter, also carry ice powers, though Peterson's are weak and Walter's have not fully developed. None of Carl's other sisters have powers, though his second oldest sister Colleen is always prepared for a fight, keeping a shotgun. Carl's best friend, Blaze, and he met at age 5 after an accident, and they became friends three years later when her father accepted a job at Carl's family's company. They became heroes together. < *Raincaller* >
Grey Owl || Enoch Reule Enoch is 21 and fairly tall standing at around 6'1" with broad shoulders and a lean, muscular frame. He has a slightly olive toned skin, faintly tanned from a little exposure to sun. His dark brown, almost black hair is messy and wavy, his bangs long enough to fall over his forehead but around the back and sides it's kept short. He has a tall oval-shaped face with a wider jaw leading to a softer pointed chin. His irises are pure white, contrasting against a black pupil and the black rim of the iris. Despite the odd colouring they look almost normal but also very vacant and unfocused. At a distance you wouldn't think he looked any different but a little closer look and the scars on his face become apparent. Clearly from a burn, the scars look harsh and slightly redder than the rest of his skin but not alarmingly ugly to look at. They run from his forehead and around his eyes down his left cheek to the left side of his neck. He has more scars from burns down his side, arms and back but are usually hidden by his clothes. he normally wears a long light grey jacket and often keeps his hood up. His appearance gives him a secretive, eery and intimidating look. Comes as no surprise Enoch is not very fond of fires since he survived a fire when he was a kid. He also doesn't like to be left alone very often and tends to follow others even if he barely knows them. He's also very cautious but not in a paranoid way, thinking things through, taking things slowly and keeping very focused. He's also resourceful, inventive and comes up with strange solutions. He's social, friendly and likes to be around people but doesn't like too much excitement. He appreciates great food and has a good sense of humour. He's telepathic and only communicates through reading minds, rarely ever actually speaking to other people. This seems to be his only power, and as for weapons he carries around two pistols. Following Enoch around is his pet owl, Gudrun. She's a very light barn owl with very dark brown feathers and has lighter gingerish brown feathers around her eyes and chest. She's sweet, friendly and always sticks around nearby. She doesn't like to be caged and often does her own hunting instead of letting Enoch feed her. He lives just across the street from Evergreen park in an apartment with a roommate. <Morior>
Second Sight (Second) || Nicolai Bastien (True name, Neku) Neku would be pretty hard to spot in the crowd if it weren't for his markings. He's 6"5', slight and it looks like he has barely any muscle at all. This isn't really the case, he is muscled but he tries to hide it with baggy shirts and skinny jeans. He has floppy black hair and wide blue eyes, and a mixture of markings from his home planet and tattoos, so it's difficult to figure out what he was born with and what he's added on over the years. His true markings, though, are at each of the Chakra points, each of them having an eye etched on with a peculiar cage-like design over them, save the one on his forehead and on his throat. He usually wears his hair long and a scarf to hide these two, because they constantly are moving around and watching everything and everyone- so definitely not tattoos. The rest of the designs on his body are, though, like the designs on each of those chakra places, along with his arms and plenty of other places. He was told once his body was a temple, and back on his home planet temples were adorned with paintings, so that's exactly what he did to himself. Plus he just loves the ink. He wears long sleeves to hide these, though, in professional settings. Neku is usually rather quiet and shy, still unsure of himself in this new world (quite literally). He prefers to people watch, and is rather awkward at first but once he warms up to you he's pretty friendly and can be funny at times. He has a light, musical accent that only comes out when he's incredibly tired. His hero form, Second, uses his abilities of his third eye to catch villains "in the act". He has the ability to see what is around him, up to four city blocks away he has that kind of "Big Brother sight", so he can easily patrol in one area without even moving. He has weak telekinetic powers, just enough to help defend himself against villains when he's fighting. He's an p and coming hero, not very well known quite yet and more of a defensive player. It would be best if he worked with someone else who fought offensively, always too scared to actually "let himself go". He'd be better at telekinesis if he actually practiced, but he never really does.He does have the tendency to be possessed by his alter ego, the mixture of his third eye and throat eye. This ego is kind of a... anti hero? Perhaps the embodiment of chaotic neutral, causing trouble and really only doing anything that they find will be in their best interests. More often than not this means that they side with the villains. Whenever Neku gets too scared or overly upset this other form, Keru, takes over. He is from another planet, where the chakras are connected to their powers, and it's expected only one eye is opened, and sometimes two. It wasn't bad that he had two eyes, actually that is rather common in his family (These "eyes" or chakras, are very genetically based), unfortunately Keru is also an alter ego that had a penchant for trouble (Okat. Keru had broken way too many big laws) and his planets equivalent of monks decided he was too much to handle and sent him to earth, assuming that its aggressive climate (theres so much oxygen here, it's like everyones slowly killing themselves!) and strange, poisonous creatures and plants would kill him quickly. But he didn't, and the child who grew up as a monk had to figure out what to do in such a different environment. He ended up in foster care since he was ten in human years, but once he was old enough he left with his adopted little sister, Layla. He finally made it to this city, lives in the sketchier part of town, which was what got him so involved with the hero business, in a two bedroom, two bath apartment. He wears a loose fitting dark blue outfit that almost looks like a monks robe if it weren't for the pant legs, hiding again most of his most distinguishable marks. He goes to the local college for Library sciences and also has a pet cat called Milo. Isn't straight at all. <Sweetclover1>
Villains
Arachnae || Arianna Wood Arachnae has creamy dark skin and dark, almost black, hair. She stands at 5'5 at the age of 16. Her hair is braided in cornrows, pulled back into a ponytail, her hair long enough to fall down her back even when pulled up. Her eyes are small, but shine a bright green. On her back is a tooth-like pattern, similar to a zipper, that opens up when she brings out her spider legs. When closed, many think that it is a tattoo, which allows Arachnae to pass as normal when not working. Swift and strong, she proves to be a dangerous foe, though she only appears when hired. Arachnae is a bit snippy. She either ignores or retaliates threats and insults, not allowing them to bother her. She is extremely protective of her family and others she is close to. She can be ruthless, killing anyone who gets in her way. She dislikes guns, preferring to use a wakizashi, or short samurai sword, instead. Arachnae wears all black tight clothes with some metal plating when on a job. This allows for stealth and flexibility, her strongest points. The clothes leave her back exposed, and she wears a mask over the bottom half of her face. Arachnae is a spider mutant. She can spin and fire webs, along with climb walls. When the teeth on her back open, four spider legs can unfold and come out of her back. If she chooses, her jaw can open and become mandibles, and she can open six other beady black eyes on her head. She only does this should her mask come off. Arachnae is a mercenary who will do anything for money and even protection for her family. However, she went too far one day. She ended up getting mutated to be part spider. While she can easily revert to human form, it has caused some problems until she used it to her advantage. If there is one thing she cares about, it's her sisters. Arachnae has a family in the rough part of the city. A single mother raising three daughters was tough on the family, them having too little of money and living in a dangerous area that breeds criminals. Arachnae grew up fighting in the streets, until she found a job. She trained as a mercenary for a few years, until she went on her own. She steals, threatens, and kills for the money she needs to help support her family and provide a better life for her two younger sisters, Gabby and Mia, who she will do anything to protect. < *Raincaller* >
Electric || Sean Eccleston Description, Personality, Hero form and Powers, Sean loves freedom. If he feels tied down, he will do anything he can to break free. When Sean was born, he caused a blackout at the hospital. This got the attention of government officials, and when he grew older it became obvious that he had powers. Taken away from his family, he was given to a special program that wanted to try and make a powerful hero that the government controls. Sean was experimented on in not the most humane ways. He was raised to be loyal to his superiors and follow orders like a soldier. This backfired on the government and scientists as instead of working for them, he started to work against them. The experiments had messed with his mind, causing him to go almost mad with pain, confusion, and anger. He started a riot that assisted in his own escape, along with a few other newly powered experiments. Sean went and gave himself a name when he escaped. He then decided that he wanted to show the government just how successful their little project was by turning against them completely and trying to bring the world to chaos. < *Raincaller* >
Ripple || Stephanie Darling Description, Personality, Hero form and Powers, Dark side (Light side for villains), History < *Raincaller* >
Sentinel || Lothar Thiel Sentinel is a lean being with fairly tanned skin and medium length hair that is faded to a light purple from the roots. He is a fairly muscular male and for his age strong enough to handle himself alone for the most part. The tan skin of his face mostly, along with parts of the rest of his body are infested with pale scars which stand out greatly. He stands at about 5'8" and the age of 21. Sentinel is usually seen wearing tight black pants and chest piece, and light wrappings around his wrist and ankles to his knees. A slim leather belt is wrapped snug around his waist that holds two daggers he often keeps around. His flat black shoes have small metal like claws made at the tips and a purple feathered cloak is worn. Lastly, he wears a pale grey mask that has a sort of avian look with a burgundy slash over the left eye to keep his face unseen. He is fairly silent and very blunt about things most of the time. It is rare for Sentinel to lie about something or someone unless it was something very life changing for either one. Some could see him as being cold hearted, but he just keeps a tough outlook to prevent people from harming those he loves. Sentinel holds the power of shadow manipulation. It's simply allowing him to form substitutes that are a smoky look that can hurt but nothing too harmful. Not only this but it allows him to move to and from those formation, giving him the title of a shadow assasin. Even though being swift is a strong point in his set, it can be easy at times to catch him from prediction from his movements between the dark figures. Coming off as a cold hearted being hides the fact he does have some heart in situations which are mostly personal. Lothar was born into a dark family, more so dark to those who frowned upon such actions made by the family. They werent the kind of family who struggled from the start and moved up to crimes to improve their life style. The Thiels were a family line that passed on the action of being assassins for a decent cause for funds. Often times, they were sent out to hunt down other types of criminals only to keep them in a basic state of in between but still on the down low. Only certain people knew of their family which allowed them to still maintain a normal life style. Growing up in the household, Lothar would often be without his parents at times and just left alone with his younger sister which forced the two to survive on their own while their parents provided for them. As Lothar hit the age 15, his father began to pull him out in the night -mostly weekends- to show him basic uses for his power passed along and taught him hand to hand combat when home with the two kids. Two years passed and one night his father and mother left, leaving himself and Aria alone like usual clockwork. Lothar managed to stay up with his sister late at night as they years passed and waited patiently for their parents to return. Hearing the click of the door knob to open the door, they both hopped up and went to greet their parents but their expressions changed as they looked behind their mother. No other being following up behind her. By then his mother decided to terminate the small business they had from the loss of their father and took the kids with her to move, moving into Redfall City. He now seeks revenge, but protects his mother and sister, who may soon follow his foot steps, as much as he can but still provides a decent fund to keep them in a nice small home. He lowered himself from his previous set goals in life to follow his fathers foot steps to end anyone who stands in his way and threatens his loved ones and friends. <Xyconic>

Two heroes stood side by side in a street empty of civilians. Now it was just filled with cop cars, firetrucks, and medical units doing their jobs to fix the messes the heroes made. Even though Blaze wanted to head back to the Tower, her partner and close friend Frostbite had other ideas, staying to hopefully help clean up, even though there were other heroes who already claimed jobs. While he talked to the authorities, she stayed back, leaning against a building that wasn't about to fall on her. Finally, she caught sight of her friend heading back towards her.
"Well?" She asked hopefully, coming off the wall.
"They don't need anymore of our help, let's head back," He told her. Together, they started walking back towards the part of the city that hasn't been destroyed.

An owl swooped over the site of the ruined buildings surrounded by the authorities, tilting her head side to side curiously but stayed high above it and didn't fly any closer. She glided off away from the area in the same direction the two heroes went and descended closer to the street to catch up with a hooded man walking a ways behind Blaze and Frostbite. He didn't notice them at first but recognized them as heroes and nodded to the owl to fly over to them. She flew up and started to glide along above them as they walked.

As the two heroes walked, Frostbite glanced over at his friend. Dropping his voice, he started to whisper.
"Blaze, we're being-"
"No kidding," Blaze replied without missing a beat. "Want me to handle it?"
"Like you handled the building?" Frostbite shook his head. "I got this." Suddenly, the hero turned around, his hands starting to emit a white mist of icy chill. "Whoever you are, I suggest you show yourself. We already brought down one building, and I'm not looking to clean up another." Ice started to collect on the ground underneath his feet.

Gudrun turned and flew back over to the man. He lifted his arm so she could land on it and climb up onto his shoulder. He pulled down his hood. "I'm not trying to start a fight." He told them, his voice sounding in their minds but his lips never moved. Gudrun kept her large round eyes locked on the two of them while he didn't seem to look at them directly.

Immediately, Blaze flinched. Already mostly closed off from others, she didn't like her mind being invaded in any way. Before she could react, Frostbite beat her to it.
"Apologies," He said, stepping in front of Blaze. Whether this was a motion to protect her or stop her, it was unknown. "In this line of work, you have to be careful. Who are you?" While he spoke, Blaze studied the man. She noted how the owl never looked away from them, yet the man never looked towards them. She avoided telekinetics, though she had learned enough about them from their mentor to be wary. Some smoke trailed from her hands, causing a small glance from Frostbite that made it obvious that he was telling her to stop.

"You are heroes then." He 'said' affirmatively, confirming what he already thought. "I suppose am as well but things grew quiet back home. I came here looking for work, I'm called Grey Owl" He added.

"I am Frostbite," He replied. "This is my partner, Blaze. Pleasure to meet you." Frostbite gave a glance at Blaze, as if telling her to be nice, but she gave no response, only crossing her arms and looking away. Giving up on his friend, he turned his gaze back to the other hero. "We were about to head back to our headquarters, would you like to join us?" Surprisingly, Blaze made no sound against his invitation, though Frostbite had a suspicion that she was starting to fall into her usual 'ignore everyone' routine.

He hesitated for a moment, smiling a bit when Frostbite offered to join them and he walked up to them. "That'd be great, thanks. Partner's huh? I normally worked alone, except for Gudrun though." He pointed to the owl on his shoulder. "It'd be nice to work with a partner."

"Not everyone has a partner," Frostbite told him. "Some heroes prefer to work alone, and others in teams. Blaze and I knew each other for a long time, we made the choice to become heroes together and trained together. We chose to be partners, though sometimes we will work in a team. If you want a partner, there's a lot of heroes that would love to have a partner. Or, well, partners." He smiled meaningfully at the owl. Blaze on the other hand made no notion that she was even paying attention anymore.

"Doesn't seem your friend wants to acknowledge us at the moment. Is there some kind of leader who organizes everything? I'm new to the whole hero business in general, I was the only 'hero' in my region." Enoch responded. Gudrun sat very still on Enoch's shoulder, still focused on Frostbite.

Frostbite glanced over at Blaze. "She, well, isn't exactly the social type." He explained. "She kinda dislikes when people are in her head. As for leaders, there's a group of the founders of the Tower, our base. They really just run the Tower, they don't control our actions unless there is something major going on. They keep track of the paper work and who comes and goes, and they keep a log of the heroes in the city, both those allowed into the Tower and those who aren't."

"I'm not in her head currently." Enoch informed. Gudrun glancing to Blaze for a split second. Enoch raised a hand to the owl and covered her eyes briefly, patting her on the head. She 'hoo'ed and turned around on Enoch's shoulder so she wasn't staring at them all creepily anymore. "Do they turn away a lot of heroes or...?"

"They don't turn away heroes, unless there is a real reason for it," Frostbite assured. "There's just some heroes who prefer to stay away from the Tower, along with potential heroes that either haven't chosen the path to become a hero or haven't fully developed their powers yet. The heroes who have authority to enter the Tower are the ones that sought it out."

"I guess I should seek it out then. I'm pretty certain in my skills but I've never been in a big city before. Do you get training at the tower or do you have to train yourself?" He asked. Gudrun lifted off Enoch's shoulder and flew over to Blaze, landing on her head.

"You have to get training yourself," Frostbite replied. "Unless you don't have control over your abilities and it could prove dangerous. Then you have to get training, as it puts everyone at risk." At the mention of powers, Blaze seemed to tense. It didn't help that Frostbite didn't realize that the owl was headed over to her, as he wasn't able to provide warning to it before it landed on her. The instant it did, Blaze's hands bursted into flames.
"Get your bird off me, or I'll fry it," She growled.

"It's my abilities and my telepathy I have total control over, I was just thinking if I could improve when it came to fightning techniques." He explained. Gudrun screeched when she saw the flames and flew off of Blaze's head. Enoch stepped back away from Blaze almost fearfully. Gudrun swooped around in the air nervously.

(Sorry for poof, just finishing Blaze's form.)
"Blaze!" Frostbite gasped, frost immediately gathering around him. "Put it out." With a shrug, Blaze did, the fire disappearing. She got a scolding look from her friend. "That was rude," He told her, turning to Grey Owl. "I am so sorry," He apologized quickly.
