Beecloud didn't want to anger any cat by making the morning patrol late. He already felt bad enough that he hadn't said anything to Thistleshine yet, but he was visiting with his family! It would be rude of him to step into the middle of their conversation. But what if Lilacstar or Nettlestep became angry toward him, or worse, Thistleshine? Maybe he did need to step up and get the other tom's attention. The cream tabby swallowed down his nervousness. He needed to do this. He needed to show that he was a good warrior...and then he'd apologize to Thistleshine and Rueberry later.
With paws shaking and tail twitching nervously Beecloud padded over to Thistleshine. He cleared his throat awkwardly. "U-um, hi," he stammered. "Sorry, uh, Thi-Thistleshine..." Beecloud couldn't help it when his paws began to shuffle over the ground. Come on, you can do this! ...This is why Bellfeather had to ask you to be her mate instead of the other way around, you're too nervous... Once again he swallowed his nerves and steeled himself. "A-are we still doing the patrol?" There. That wasn't so bad now, was it? ... Yes, yes it was. |

It appeared that the patrol was going to start seeking him sooner than he thought. When the timid tom spoke up, Thistleshine turned to face him. "It is, Beecloud. I was just waiting for some of the other warriors to wake up first." He explained, not elaborating that he may have gotten a tiny bit distracted by his family. His whiskers twitched in amusement, then, in an attempt to ease the cream-colored tom's nerves a touch, he added. "It looks like we're going to have to start dragging them out of their nests though, doesn't it?"
Then he turned to his mate and kits, touching his nose to Rueberry's cheek. "I'll come by and see you after the patrol." His next sentence was aimed towards his sons and daughter, though, and his warm orange eyes turned to them next. "...and maybe I can teach you three how to do a hunter's crouch when I return?" A mock-stern note entered his voice, then. "...granted that listen to your mother. Do we have a deal?"
The silver tabby tom was learning how to balance his life as a warrior and his life as a father, both things he wanted dearly to have a part in. He was a determined, ambitious warrior, first to volunteer for patrols, but he also wanted to be a constant presence for his kits, as well.

[I want to get into college, but I did pretty bad in high school, and I'm not exactly sure how to get financial aid/how to apply for school, so I mostly just work and learn things online for free.]

Thistleshine didn't bite his head off. Rueberry didn't snap his tail off. The three kits didn't threaten to gorge out his eyes. He had done all right. He had done what he needed to do. Beecloud could effectively relax now.
A smile found its way over the little tom's maw. His entire body posture perked up, his chest puffing out a bit due to the movement of his compact body. If he weren't an experienced warrior and not a father, he would certainly be mistaken for a kit. He was also quite different from his siblings Nettlestep and Hollyfrost. A purr could be heard coming from his vocal cords. "Why not start pulling them up by their tails like squirrels?" Beecloud teased. Dear StarClan, everything was much better now that he had stepped up and asked Thistleshine about the patrol.

Rueberry turned when her attention was caught by Beecloud. She nodded to the little tom, listening to him as he mentioned the patrol Thistleshine was meant to lead. For a moment she felt down about her mate needing to leave, but she soon recovered, returning her mate's affectionate gesture. "I'll be here in camp as always," she joked. It would be nice to have Thistleshine around more often, but Rueberry knew that his duties needed to be divided to the Clan and not just on his family. This was something they had discussed before having kits, the division between family time and Clan time. |

"That's definitely an idea." Thistleshine snorted, looking amused at the smaller warrior's suggestion. "We might need to remind them that leafbare's over, and they need to leave hibernation." He added, flicking his tail. The experienced warrior brushed his pelt against his mate's in farewell, before he nodded to the cream tabby. "Let's go get them, then."
With that, he led the way to the warrior's den, before he was sucked into doting over his family for the rest of the day. He figured that Nettlestep and Lilacstar wouldn't be too happy if he did that, no matter how much he wanted to.
"Tulipfur? Aloeeyes? Liontail?" He called into the den, once he stuck his head inside. "Orchidblossom? Beechberry?" He figured he could grab the warriors before he got to Amaryllispaw.

The tom found himself giving a laugh at Thistleshine's comment. His fur puffed out due to the laughter that had rolled through his body. "Might as well call us SquirrelClan," he teased once again before adding, "Though, I hope we don't disturb them. Maybe they do need some extra sleep..." Beecloud trailed his thoughts off there. He flicked his tail in worried thought; was there a few warriors meant to go on patrol that really needed a bit of extra sleep? He didn't want to disturb them, especially if they truly needed it. Nettlestep wouldn't place a cat that was too tired to function on a patrol, Beecloud was sure of that, but he still worried.
Trying to keep himself from causing any hard feelings, Beecloud offered up a suggestion. "Why don't I get Amaryllispaw?" He didn't want warriors to become annoyed with Thistleshine, but Beecloud was sure that wouldn't happen. How could a cat possibly get mad at Thistleshine of all cats? |

[Headcanon that Beecloud and Thistleshine are best buds, and were probably apprentices together as well? Thistleshine is just a much newer dad. So Beecloud is secretly teaching him how to make the cringiest dad jokes.]

"Eh, but if we don't wake them up now, they're probably going to get a much ruder awakening for missing the patrol." The silver tabby observed, shrugging. Beecloud had an excellent point of course - a patrol with sleep-deprived warriors wasn't very helpful - but no patrol at all would be even worse.
At the cream tabby's suggestion, he nodded. "That's a good idea." He agreed, since they could get this thing going faster if they split up to find everyone.

Thistleshine had a point just as he usually did. If the warriors due to go on the patrol didn't wake up then they would more than likely get a harsh awakening by Nettlestep or Lilacstar herself. Beecloud was sure that wouldn't bode well for most of the warriors that would be involved in such a fiasco. He also wouldn't wish that on any cat no matter what. If it was any consolation to his previous worries, though, he settled to thinking that any sleep deprived felines could curl up and sleep later.
"I'll be right back, then," Beecloud mewed. With a friendly nudge of Thistleshine's shoulder, Beecloud turned on his paws and bounded toward the apprentice den, calling out to his apprentice as he neared the secluded shelter. "Amaryllispaw?" He called into the den as he peeked his head in, eyes blinking to adjust to the dimmer light. |

[Right so now that I think I have that sorted out, what I was saying was:
I almost want to make a little offshoot rp for this in PM: I'm assuming that Beepaw, Nettlepaw, Hollypaw, Thistlepaw, Cottonpaw, Lavenderpaw, and Bellpaw were all apprenticed around the same time, with some being a few moons older or younger than the others. It'd be interesting, and a good way to sort of figure out their characters more.
What do you guys think?]

In the meantime, Iceclaw was going after a much different kind of prey. Unfettered by the clear ground, the white tomcat prowled forward slowly, towards the pond. He made a conscious effort to keep his pawsteps light - birds weren't the best at hearing, but they were easy to startle - and was rewarded by the feel of the stiff grass under his paws not snapping suddenly.
The ducks by the pond hadn't appeared to notice him yet, or Doveheart in her pursuit of the rabbit. Iceclaw took his sweet time. The waterfowl didn't seem in too big of a rush, and therefore, neither was he. The snowy tom swayed slightly on his paws, trying to mimic the movement of the taller grass in the wind, and draw less attention to himself. Hunting in leafbare had been kit's play for him, with his thick, stark white pelt. Now, though, with the melting of the snows, he had to take every precaution he could, because that camouflage he enjoyed so much during the cold season now worked against him.
The entire time he stalked his prey, he didn't take his eyes off his target - a mallard that had wandered too far from the pond's edge, and into the grass and reeds towards the edge. It was quite some distance away from it's clan - unlucky for the duck, but lucky for Iceclaw.
Finally, the young warrior exploded from the grass in a huge spring, his paws coming down on the unfortunate bird's back. A thrill of adrenaline spiked through his chest when the duck started beating at him with it's wings, and he fumbled to chomp down on it's neck before it could open it's bill to call out to the others.
Slowly, the wing-beats subsided, which Iceclaw was profoundly grateful for. It was a pretty big bird, honestly, and it's wings were strong and painful.

"We're just on dawn patrol today, and I think if we stalled any longer, Lilacstar and Nettlestep might claw our ears off." A small purr of amusement came from the tom, before he glanced around. "Beecloud's over at the apprentice's den, getting Amaryllispaw." With this explanation, he looked over his shoulder to see if his pal was returning yet or not.
