Moonkit to Redflower
The camp was incredibly boring when the patrols were out. Moonkit was usually fine staying with her mother or her siblings, but today it seemed they were all extra boring. So she padded around the camp, careful to stay close enough to the nursery to stay out of trouble. It had been far too long since they'd last been outside the nursery, and the afternoon sun felt great on her fur, so she clambered up the nearest rock and stretched out.
Leopardpaw to Fernleaf
The apprentice hadn't been trying to sneak up on his mentor, so he was confused by her compliment. He must be getting quieter with his movements since he'd started his training. Watching Fernleaf, he attempted to copy her crouch however awkwardly he could. He tasted the air for the scent that she had clearly caught, but it took a moment before he could recognize it. Bird of some sort, he wasn't sure what kind. She motioned for him to start stalking it, and he felt a prick of nervousness wash over him. He wasn't good at catching birds yet. Normally it wouldn't bother him, but he really didn't want to miss in front of the other warriors. So he slunk down and did his best to be as silent as possible. As such, it probably took him twice as long to inch forward to the bird...a sparrow apparently, and get ready to pounce. If he was quiet enough, the bird would be on the ground until it was too late.

Fernleaf to Leopardpaw
The small dilute tortie felt her stomach flip in excitement as she watched her apprentice nervously begin to stalk forward toward the prey she had targeted. She knew that the young tom didn't have much experience hunting birds, maybe a couple lessons here and there when Fernleaf felt like hunting birds. She felt her belly churn again, somewhat doubting herself as a mentor; she was not the most focused cat in the world, and as a result, she knew that some of their training sessions suffered greatly. On the bright side, perhaps, she was sure Leopardpaw felt constantly challenged; maybe sometimes the challenge was having a new battle technique thrown at him by surprise, maybe it was a new type of prey that he never encountered. And sometimes the challenge was simply deciphering what in the world Fernleaf meant half of the time.
She watched him closely, however, and kept her mind active in assessing his posture, technique and silence. He was doing well so far, perhaps moving slightly slower than what she deemed necessary. This, she thought, was normal; he was nervous about being thrown on the spot and likely felt pressure. No matter what happened, Fernleaf wouldn't care. A failure was still a learning experience, as was a success. The only difference between success and failure was the fact that success brought some food home, and maybe a little bit of self-confidence.

Leopardpaw to Fernleaf
Leopardpaw could feel his mentor watching his every move, and it did not help his confidence. He crept forward until he was about a tail's length away from the bird who had still, somehow, not noticed him yet. He paused to get himself ready, extending his claws and tensing before the spring. His mind started racing as he stared at the bird, who chose that moment to turn in his direction. Fear flashed through him, had he been noticed? If he acted now, and he hadn't been seen, the bird could get away, but if he waited and he had been seen, the same would happen.
Deciding not to chance it, he sprang forward, closing the distance between himself and the bird. It startled and started to fly but he anticipated that and lept into the air. It was a straight shot to the bird and he felt a surge of confidence rush through him. The bird, however, was much more nimble in the air than he was, and twisted out of Leopardpaw's way. The apprentice crashed to the ground with nothing between his claws but a mound of dirt. Shaking himself, he sat up and dipped his head in shame, not looking at his mentor. "Sorry."

So, he was in the same hunting patrol as Tigertail. That didn’t bother him, really - certainly not, no. Why then, he wondered as he briefly allowed himself to sit down, was his pelt growing adequately warmer and warmer with every passing second? To top it all off, an image of the kind tom was conjured within his mind, and, frankly, the illustration of him wasn’t helping the crazy, frantic balls of nervousness that was gyrating in his chest. Was he in a daze? It certainly seemed so; from an outsider’s perspective, the small tom was sitting uncharacteristically quietly with his nose fastidiously and slightly raised to the air as if there was something above his head.
“Owlcall?”
“Oh my Star Clan,” he yelped when he heard a familiar voice to his side, causing his tail to fluff to a degree it had never before, “don’t surprise me like that, Redflower.” He saw the subtle change of the quiet she-cat’s expression that could be paralleled to that of a person quirking their eyebrow; to make things a little worse, her blue eyes glowed benevolently with calm amusement. Clearing his throat once, the small, brown warrior sat a little taller, even though his head was slightly ducked in full-blown embarrassment. “Please?”
“I’ll try not to bemuse you next time,” she answered, still very much amused, before she indicated the small patrol with a flick of her tail, “but they’ll leave without you if you continue to sit here.” "Oh." He blinked once, as if he were letting the situation sink in, finally hauling himself out of his reverie. “Oh.” After a momentary pause, his warm brown eyes widened a little before he sprang up and swiveled around to join the rest of the patrol. “Wish us luck,” he then meowed, just before he left, turning his head so that he was glancing over his shoulder with an optimistic and whimsical light within his compassionate gaze. “We’ll be back with something, I promise.”
- Agility. His silent reflex had always been his strength; perhaps his nimbleness was one of his greatest assets to offer aside from his unconditional love for Stream Clan. There was also his endless creativity, boisterous enthusiasm, temper, impatience, and compassion that stuck him in sticky situations more often than not (not to mention his unexpected tentative shyness upon meeting new she-cats), but that was another story to be told.
Letting his ardent gaze sweep over his perimeter, he quietly lowered himself upon catching a whiff of prey. There was another familiar scent that wafted in the air, but his concentration had already narrowed down onto what would surely aid their clan, were it to be caught. When he slowly moved forward, he was like a leaf gliding over a tide; there was no sound that escaped from his paws. But his frightening level of focus seemed to serve as his downfall today; he hadn’t noticed the twig beneath his paws, and it gave a soft snap as it broke underneath him, despite his light weight.
Oh no.
-
After watching the small, impatient, loud, and loving tom deftly leave the clan with the rest of the patrol, Redflower allowed herself to stretch leisurely. Behind herself, she noticed that a particular someone was doing the same, and felt a plethora of genuine affection fill her upon realizing who it was. “Hello, Moonkit,” she gently purred before sitting near to the kit, though she was careful to give the kit some space of her own. “Where’s everyone else?” By everyone else, she seemed to be referring to Bluekit, Cloverkit, and Stormkit.

Moonkit to Redflower
Moonkit mewed a tired greeting to Redflower as she neared. "Hello Redflower." She waited until the older cat had sat down next to her before responding. "They're all still asleep, but I'm not sleepy." She tried her hardest to stifle the poorly-timed yawn that threatened to escape. "I wanted to see the morning patrol off before they left, but it seems that I missed them."

"They did leave a little earlier than usual today," she answered as her collected gaze traveled back to where the patrol had last been seen before they'd disappeared together. Though her usually stern and courteous demeanour didn't allow her to, she was also stifling a small yawn; it seemed that the sunlight above was eliciting the involuntary reaction from the understanding warrior. When she spoke once more, this time, she glanced over at Moonkit with her calm blue eyes. It seemed that her quiet voice also carried the same amount of warmth her gaze depicted. "That's all right, though; we'll see them again soon. It doesn't have the same effect as seeing them off, I suppose, but... we'll be able to welcome them back."

Moonkit to Redflower
The fluffy grey kit was glad that the sun was warming up the stones, she didn't think that her coat would be thick enough to keep out the morning cold yet. "I wanted to show that I'm close to being an apprentice!" She knew that she was still a few moons away from being old enough, but she was still of the mindset that if she showed how mature she was, she might be one earlier. "But I guess I can welcome them back at least."

Fernleaf to Leopardpaw
"Oh no!" the small tortoiseshell cried as the apprentice missed his catch of sparrow, "Oh, you were so close to catching it; I totally thought you had it!" Fernleaf had been more invested in watching the apprentice hunt than she originally thought, and felt the same pang of sadness that she would have felt had she missed catching a bird by no more than a mouse's tail. It wasn't his fault that the darned thing took the absolute worst time to turn its head and inspect its surroundings. She trotted over to Leopardpaw, who looked absolutely crestfallen about the missed sparrow, and gave his ears a few reassuring licks. "Aww, don't stress it too much; that bird has probably avoided tons of cats in the past," she chuckled.
Fernleaf suddenly straightened herself out and went into full mentor-mode, as she liked to call it. "You did the right thing; when prey turns in your direction, you should always take the chance to snag it, especially as close as you were. You didn't miss it by very much either! Birds are a very hard prey to hunt because they can fly... they day mice fly is the day I starve!" She felt herself get a little bit off topic with that comment, and adjusted. "But, you could have definitely extended your body and legs more to cover more space; it just gives you a higher chance of catching one." She draped her tail over his shoulders and blinked kindly at him, "Let's try for something else; taste the air. Can you smell anything?"
Fernleaf did what she told Leopardpaw to do, tasting a sour scent in the air. Her fur bristled. Before she could listen to Leopardpaw's response, the she-cat crept toward the offending smell, her tail lifted high in warning. She didn't want to yell anything, for she recognized the smell as something dangerous. She approached a source of the scent, finding a carcass of what was a rabbit within a shrub. The tortoiseshell suddenly felt all of her fur stand on end and she backed up silently from the rabbit, a kill that seemed to be freshly eaten. "Foxes!" she thought in a panic, her eyes flashing back and forth, trying to find a flash of red-orange fading through the tree line.

Leopardpaw to Fernleaf
The apprentice felt comforted by his mentor's words and praise. Perhaps birds were hard for every cat to catch, especially since his own mentor had struggled with them. "I'll do better next time." He promised, picking his head back up and blinking at his mentor. And anyway, he was an apprentice now, not a kit, so he shouldn't be upset over things like this anymore. He sat up straight and listened to her suggestions. Maybe if he practiced when they got back to camp, he would do better next time.
Copying his mentor, he lifted his head and tasted the air. Immediately, he caught scent of something absolutely awful. "Oh what is that? It smells like a badger, but worse." He had never smelled something like this before, and he hoped he'd never have to smell it again. Still, this was a lesson, so he followed the scent to where it was strongest. Fernleaf seemed preoccupied by something, but Leopardpaw could tell that the scent he was heading towards was fresher. In fact, he was fairly certain that whatever he was smelling was right behind this patch of brush.
"Fernleaf..." he whispered, not wanting to spook whatever it was. Hopefully it was prey and tasted better than it smelled.

Fernleaf to LeopardpawFernleaf's nose wrinkled and her lips were raised both in a snarl and as a way to taste the air. Now that she had located the offending smell, it seemed to clog her nose and hurt her head. Her heart rate had accelerated with great force, and she felt her paws burn as she slid out her claws. Then she saw it, an orange blur of fur behind some brush and she knew that a fox was very near their area. Her hackles rose and she felt her pelt stand fully on end. Her heart suddenly began to skip beats as she noticed her apprentice stalking closely to the bush that she had just seen the monstrosity of a creature laying in wait. "No, no no no, no no," she though desperately, hoping that he would stop his forward movement. The dilute tortoiseshell briskly, yet quietly moved in closer to her apprentice, feeling her stomach churn and threaten to tie itself in a knot. He seemed to hesitate and she breathed a small sigh of relief, happy that the mousebrain hadn't decided to charge in. She didn't mean to call him a mousebrain in her head, but gosh, in the heat of the moment, she could be a little snippy. She hissed quietly at him "Leopardpaw, get away from there now; there's a fox." Her pupils expanded as she saw another movement in the thicket a short distance away, bright orange like a fire flowing through deadwood. "Leopardpaw, go back to camp and gather whatever warriors you can. There's at least two of them if not more; I need you to return as quickly as possible," she ushered, her eyes now locked with the young apprentice. "Go!" she hissed quietly, yet alertly. ( 𝕊’𝕞𝕠𝕣𝕖 how are we supposed to handle big events like this? Do we each get to control the fox(es) or is that your job? So many role plays are different with this stuff. :S)

Also, we can each roleplay a fox if we want, maybe decide ahead of time if we want characters to get hurt, and who should, all that stuff.

( here as well i'd definitely be willing to rp a fox and a discussion sounds good! i'm up for anything; i wouldn't mind if something happens/doesn't happen to owlcall/redflower they're open for anything and everything )
Redflower to Moonkit Humming a small, but sincere answer in response to the kit’s last statement, she allowed her tail to sway back and forth - not for any real reason, really, though it would be a lie if the warrior said she wasn’t feeling a twinge of warm pride. After all, it felt like yesterday when she had been in the same position as Moonkit, eager for her name to change within the clan. “Moonpaw,” she said quietly with her gentle voice before a hint of a smile was elicited from her, “it has a nice ring to it.”

OOC Alright, so I’d say the most for foxes would be like, four, because any more might be a little bit much. Tigertail might get hurt, but not by much, because he’s actually a pretty good fighter so he might be okay in that regard.

( agreed, that sounds like a good amount; anymore than four and the whole clan might be in a lot of trouble i think owlcall is reliable when it comes to agility/quick reflexes and therefore anything that requires speed, but he's small so it's easy to overwhelm him when he's facing several opponents who are larger/more muscular than himself. i'm not entirely certain what would happen to him; i could have him hurt badly for this round, though. i imagine that not every cat would be left unscathed with four foxes if redflower does get involved, she may be in a similar position as tigertail )
