Florence finally stayed silent, sullenly watching Harper and Elias as they both spoke. His mouth was curled into a dissatisfied frown- and, somehow, he managed to not speak when a clear insult was spoken. He was unmoved. Nothing could shake him.
The angry little tremble in his wand hand spoke leagues of his composure.
"I assume that I have no need to drag you two to my room and stress it more, now that I've said it simply?" The Headmistress' eyes were drawn to Florence's and not to Elias. How come he gets the preferential treatment? This wasn't fair. None of it was fair.
It didn't change the fact that he dipped his head enough to be a clear sign of finality and turned to go as soon as he could, trying to will everything back down. Florence wouldn't let his mood fall just because he was back in the castle, no- he had a Transfiguration class he needed to get ready to teach, a letter to send to his sister....so much to do, so little time until the school year started...
As the Headmistress and the other new professor parted, a white cat could be seen walking the halls, as laid back and lazy as all cats were. Problems were simpler as a cat- still there, but not as pressing. Nobody knew of his form, either, so anyone would just think that he was on the hunt for the castle's mice or something.
...Perhaps there were mice nearby. No. He needed to keep track of where Elias went. He needed to set a trap.
Hopefully there were mice on the way.

(lmao they're both so petty and petulant. I love it. Gotta start figuring out a way for them to at least start to reconcile, though.... I have an idea but I'm not sure if I should say it just yet)
Elias was aware of Florence stalking off, but didn't bother to watch where he went. Instead, he just nodded in agreement with the Headmistress's last statement and politely excused himself. After all, he needed to get himself and Jormungandr settled in... he had spent the day worrying about his beasts, and none of his own stuff was unpacked yet. And he needed to start getting organized for his classes, as well. He had some ideas, but he felt he should work out the details before school started.
As he headed back in the direction of his office, he happened to spot a flash of white out of the corner of his eye. A cat? That wasn't altogether surprising, since he was sure at least one of the professors could have brought it along with them. Elias had Jormungandr and Raesvelg, after all. Still, he didn't recognize it, so it must be new. Or... at least, one of the teachers would have had to gotten it in the last six years since he left. Which wasn't an unreasonable assumption.
"Hey there," Elias called softly to the cat, crouching down to take a better look at it and trying to beckon it over. He always had a soft spot for them, though not quite as much as he did for dragons and similar reptiles. "You're pretty. Who do you belong to?" Before he had too much of a chance to observe the cat, though, Jormungandr let out a surprising hiss and snapped at it.
"Hey there! Don't be mean!" Elias exclaimed in surprise. The snake didn't normally have such strong reactions to, well, anything, unless it insisted on bugging it for too long, or it was hunting. Neither of these seemed to be the case in this moment. Though the serpent made no other move at the feline, Elias grabbed him gently by the head to keep him from lunging, and then stood back up. He couldn't have Jormungandr trying to eat another professor's pet, now could he?
(I would add more to this but I wasn't sure how Florence would react to getting snapped at, so I figured I would let you get in a response, even if it's just a short one, before I continue lol)

gasps,,, what is it and ikr i love them lots ))

Florence promptly stopped as soon as Elias made a move towards him, looking for all the world quite wary and skittish. It was easier to do as a cat, really- everyone was so much taller, so...he had to be at least a bit more careful. And the man still had a huge snake on him. There wasn't really a smarter option.
He hissed back loudly when the snake made a sound, ears flicking back before he backed away. Horrible beast, he thought with a growl. Too dangerous. If he got closer, it could strike at him.
After a long moment Florence let out a long meow, inching closer to him but keeping his distance so that the snake couldn't get at him even if it tried.
...Maybe he could trick Elias into giving him fish if he followed him to his quarters. Extra food was always good.
With another meow he licked at his paw, waiting for him to keep going with the usual haughty air of a housecat. His animagus form was amazing.

(dinner, I'll resond in a few moments. Anyways, I'm thinking maybe at some point they get really fed up with each other and Elias is like why don't we go out into like the forest or something and just sort this out like the good ol' days. And then maybe some sht goes down out there and they have to work together. And then they're like... that wasn't half bad actually. But idk, it's a bit shaky lol.)

(I mean yeah that would follow. I just figured they would probably need some sort of event [though maybe not quite as traumatic as being attacked by a horde of acromantulas] to sort of force them to change their perspective. Otherwise it could possibly take the whole school year for them to come around XD)

Elias was a bit surprised that the cat didn't scamper off as soon as Jormungandr snapped at him- most would have. Though, he supposed, this one was likely used to being at Hogwarts, around loud students, obnoxious ghosts, and creatures possibly far more intimidating than this little snake. The cat certainly looked older than a few months old, so he must have been around for at least a couple of years. After a moment, the cat came forward, but still seemed wary of the snake. The serpent stared at the cat, though Elias couldn't quite read its expression- possibly because it lacked eyelids, or really and facial musculature with which to make expressions. Regardless, he could tell that it certainly did not like the cat.
"Hm. Sorry little guy. Or... girl, maybe. I suppose it doesn't matter." He let out a sigh, gazing at the cat wistfully for a moment, but he didn't try to approach it- certainly not with Jormungandr staring at it so vehemently. "I'll have to pet you later, I suppose," he murmured, half to himself and half to the cat. "I'm sure I'll see you around." He watched it for another heartbeat before turning and continuing down the hallway to his room, only letting go of Jormungandr's head when he felt the cat was a safe distance behind.
(oops sorry for the kind of short one.)

(yeah maybe. Idk I just feel like forcing them to actually, like, help each other would be a pretty good way to get them to hate each other less. Or making them have to agree on something. Or something of that sort. Maybe they could get a troublesome student or something and have to do something collectively about them. Or maybe some new students end up falling into the exact same situation as Florence and Elias and they're like... okay this is silly we should really stop.)

hilarious d&d podcast less about serious adventures and more about fun storytelling and having a good time with family bc it's three brothers and their dad playing together and. it's really great i'm on ep20 how have i discovered this so late and most d&d stuff is super dramatic so its really awkward for me to enjoy listening about it??? but this one has regular doses of humor and laughs and great stories
