Gabriel eyed the different horses as they walked, a small smile on his face. He knew she was joking, but he really was planning to get them something that was at least decent. He wasn't rich or anything, he was living off of a part-time job after all, but he wasn't about to take her to a McDonald's or something unless she really really wanted it. "Oh, you're going to get a feast. Only the best for you." He glanced over at her as he spoke, hoping a little bit that she'd at least smile at his words. He wanted her to like him because he surely liked her. "I was thinking we could go to a restaurant or something that you like, your pick."
---
Fletcher nodded, turning to leave the room. She was definitely right about him starving. He'd eaten close to nothing all day. All he'd had was a few snacks on his flight, but that wasn't enough to actually fill him up. He found his parents quickly, telling them with a smile that Nichole and he had made dinner for all of them and that they should come eat. They seemed more than eager, and it made his smile grow even more. "They'll be here in a minute," he said to Nichole as he walked back into the kitchen. He slid a chair out from the table, the same chair he'd always sat at when he was younger, and fell into it, his eyes scanning the table. "We really did do a nice job, you know that? This just might be the most beautiful meal I have ever seen."

His words did bring a smile to Daisy's face. "You know we don't have to go all out, especially since it's out first date. But I do know of a dinner that might suit our needs," she told him. It was still cheap, but ten times better than McDonald's, including a nice, homey atmosphere. Finally, she stopped in front of a stall with a name plate which read "Mortimer." At the same time, a grey head appeared over the door, nickering gently. "Gabriel, meet Morty, your partner for the morning," she introduced, petting the nose that was outstretched, hunting for treats.
While he was corralling his parents for dinner, Nichole finished setting the table and getting the drinks poured. Fletcher had already set out most of the dishes, so there wasn't too much for her to do. By the time he came back into the kitchen, everything was set and ready for everyone. "that's good to hear," she said, smiling as she took the seat opposite of him. "If you ever get tired of the whole rock star scene, we can always fall back on our cooking skills. Maybe even open a restaurant. Your previous fans would certainly keep business alive."

Gabriel eyed the horse, his eyes lighting up slightly. He always had and probably always would have a soft spot in his heart for all animals, and they never ceased to make him happy. He reach out, stroking the horse gently before glancing over at her with a small grin. "I know that it hasn't even really started yet, but this might already be the best date I've ever been on. I mean it." His gaze travelled back to the horse and his voice softened a bit. "Hey there, buddy," he said to the horse, his smile widening slightly.
---
Fletcher couldn't help but laugh at the ridiculousness of her statement, amusement clear on his face. "I'm sure we'd never run out of business, that for sure. But the only way to get them to stay would be for the food to not by cooked by me. I don't need them getting food poisoning. They'd never want to listen to my music again, and that would be bad for me." He turned as he heard footsteps and smiled as his parents came in. "Sorry if it's not the most extravagant meal you've ever had, but Nichole and I slaved over it so please be nice," he informed them. He knew they would never say anything anyway considering there were probably some of the nicest people to walk the planet.

"I'm glad to hear that," Daisy said sincerely, smiling over at Gabriel. "Just hold onto that thought when things get started. While he got to know Morty, she went to grab the lead line to attach to the horse's halter. They would need it in order to groom him and put the saddle and everything on. "Do you want to full experience of playing cowboy, or do you want me to groom and tack him so we can get to riding sooner?" she asked, clipping the rope to the halter, but not opening the stall door yet. If Gabriel wanted the full experience, then she would let him walk the horse out of his stall himself.
"You sell yourself short," Nichole told her. "I'm sure your hard-core fans would continue to eat your food no matter how sick it might make them. They're pretty crazy at times." She glanced up as his parents joined them, smiling. It was good to be in this situation again, surrounded by all of the members of her second family. With Fletcher home, it was a completed picture once more. "You really need to have more faith in your cooking abilities. It's going to be fine," she told him.

"I think you should probably just do the complicated stuff," Gabriel with a small smile. "I think I better just stick to the riding. If that's okay." He wouldn't admit it to her, but he was nervous just by seeing the horse. He knew they were big, but it was a bit intimidating when you go this close. He wasn't scared or anything, but he didn't want to do something wrong. He was sure he could do it alright if he really needed to, but luckily he had her. "Maybe I could do it next time," he said, hopefully not coming on too strong. He already knew that he would do this again and again if she wanted to, and he had a feeling he was going to like it anyway.
---
Fletcher gave her a grateful look. She had always had his back and talked him up a bit. He had been insecure on multiple occasions when he was younger about his music and how good he was, and he was confident that he would have never made it as far as he had without her there encouraging him and ensuring him that he was good at it. Who knows where he would be without her. His parents just laughed at the exchange, creating a slight smile on Fletcher's face. "I guess it's time to dig in then."

"Fair enough," Daisy commented at his answer. "You can give him a brushing after we're through riding." Opening the stall, she led Morty from the stall. His dappled grey coat was hardly needing cleaning since she made sure to groom all of her family's horses whenever she was here, but it was habit that she had grown into and a rule of thumb: always groom a horse before riding. In a short few minutes, she had brushed his entire coat, having to stand on tiptoes in order to get his back. "You can stay here while I go get his saddle," she told him with a smile. "It won't take long."
"I'm surprised you haven't yet," Nichole teased, picking up her fork. "Go on and eat. We don't need you to pass out on us." There really wasn't a need to wait in order to start eating, but since this was his first meal back home, it was like everyone was waiting for Fletcher to begin eating before the rest joined in.

Gabriel watched her with a small smile. He could easily tell just by watching that she must do this a lot because she looked so natural and sure of herself while doing it. He lightly stroked the horse's nose, nodding at her words. "You don't need help with anything?" he asked hesitantly, glancing over. He assumed a saddle couldn't be light, and as much as he knew she must ride, he figured he could at least help. He assumed she'd need to get two, one for the horse she'd be riding as well, and he could carry one for her if she wanted him to.
---
Fletcher cast a gaze around to the three people at the table with a smile before he began eating. The meal lasted a little longer than it probably should have, but it was only because of the talking and laughter that drifted around. He couldn't help it, he'd missed these people so much. Once it was over and Fletcher was assured by his mom at least ten times that they didn't need to help clean up, he led Nichole out of the kitchen and to living room, where he knew the movies would be. "So what are we watching?" he asked as soon as they entered, flopping himself down on the couch. Even if she didn't have the movies planned out, he was going to make her pick anyway, so it was simply easier to make that clear by not even looking in their direction.

Daisy thought for a moment before nodding. Morty was tied to the grooming station in front of his stall, so he wouldn't be going anywhere. "If you want to come along, I'll give you the saddle you'll be using. Then I can get mine at the same time so I don't have to make another trip," she told him. "It shouldn't take but a minute, but the sooner we get this done, the sooner the actually date part of the morning can begin."
The dinner was nice. It had been a while since they had a meal last as long as it did, but that was a good thing. The conversation never stopped, not until the food had been eaten and time for the dishes to be cleared. After being dismissed by his mother, the young woman followed Fletcher into the living room. "Well, what would you consider the worst movie of the year would be?" she asked, turning to him with a grin. If he had been hoping for a marathon of good movies, he was sorely mistaken. No, they would be filling the night with the most cringy movies they could find to offer non-stop entertainment.

Gabriel nodded with a smile, following her, glad she accepted his offer. He wanted to ride as soon as possible. Sure he wanted to ride himself, but he was more excited to see how happy she was when she rode. “Do you remember the first time you went riding?” he asked curiously. He knew she’s been doing it for her entire life, but he didn’t know how it worked very well. He wasn’t sure if you had to be a certain age to ride by yourself or if it was something she’d been doing forever.
—
Fletcher looked at her and raised an eyebrow, a bit confused. “I haven’t really seen any new movies in a long time,” he said honestly. “Why?” he asked, his eyebrows furrowing together before his eyes lit up in comprehension. “No way. Are you actually gonna make me watch terrible movies all night?” Despite him not really wanting to do it, he couldn’t help but smile. He really would do anything she wanted to do, he couldn’t deny that.

"No, not really since I was too young to remember," Daisy answered as she led him to the tack room. "But I remember when I finally was able to ride on my parents' horses without them with me. I was eight ad finally tall enough where my feet reached the stirrups. Of course, I always rode in an arena with at least one of my parents to supervise me, but still, it was a big milestone. If you think Morty's tall when you get on him now, just imagine what it would feel like when you were ten."
Opening the door to the tack room, Daisy stepped inside. All all of the walls were saddles and bridles organized neatly. She walked over to where her family's tack was and got the saddle off of its stand before handing it to Gabriel. "It's heavy," she warned, just in case he wasn't prepared for the weight of it. Once she was sure he had it, she draped the bridle over the saddle. "You can go on and take this back. I'll be right behind you."
"You know we have to watch at least two terrible movies before the night is over," Nichole told him with a laugh. "But since you haven't seen any new movies, I guess we can watch a few good ones first." She picked up the remote for the TV and began to search through the movies that she had made sure to record for his arrival. "What genre are you in the mood for? Action? Comedy? Rom-Coms? Oh wait, you wanted to hold off on the terrible movies."

Gabriel carefully took it from her hands, struggling for a moment on the best way to carry it. Once he had a nice hold, he smiled to her softly and nodded. He turned, trudging back to where they had come from. Never in his life would he have guessed that this required so much work. He’s never thought about what went into preparing before actually riding a horse. He wasn’t sure however what to do with the saddle once he made it back, and hoped she would appear quite quickly to tell him. He didn’t know how to put it on a horse, and he wasn’t about to attempt without some help and instruction.
—-
Fletcher rolled his eyes. “Wait, you mean you don’t want to watch a classic rom-com?” he asked teasingly, looking over at her. “I’m sure my mom has a ton of them recorded. We could surely watch them. The perfect choice if you ask me. Romance for the ladies, comedy for the guys. And last time I check, we fall into those categories.” He turned back, looking at the tv. “But I guess if you don’t want to watch that, we could do comedy. You can never go wrong with a good comedy.”

It only took a minute to gather another set of tack from the wall and return to Gabriel. Setting her burden down on the round out of the way, she took the saddle from him. Within the next five minutes, Morty was all set to go. "Here," She said, holding out the reigns for the boy to take. "If you want, you can lead him to the back wall so you can get yourself a helmet. I'll be getting my own horse ready."
Nichole laughed and selected a comedy movie that she had actually watched with his mother a couple months back. Both women had enjoyed it, so it was the first to be picked. "I guess this one will have to do," she said, adjusting the volume and settling back into the couch. In her shifting, she had scooted a little closer to Fletcher. "You can pick the next one."

Gabriel looked back and her and nodded hesitantly. He wasn't surprised by the confidence she was showing considering this was something she did all the time, but he could help but envy it a little bit. He took the reigns from her, shooting her a small smile before he walked in the direction she had indicated slowly, his smile widening slightly when the horse followed. "Now is about as good a time as any to tell you again that if I die, tell my mom I love her," he joked, carefully grabbing a helmet. "I will admit I'm getting really nervous right now."
---
Fletcher looked at the screen and nodded. He didn't really mind what they watched, her mostly just wanted to hang out with her. He smiled slightly at her movement, and quickly opened his arms to her, an old habit. It wasn't something he even had to think about. This was after all his best friend, the person he was closest to in the world, and he'd missed her immensely. Not seeing her in so long had really taken a toll.

Daisy laughed as she got her horse out of his stall. Where Morty was tall and dappled grey, her own horse, Champ, was shorter and a yellowish dun color with a dark mane and tail. "Will do. Though, I'll have to steal your phone to call her since I don't know where you live. I'll also be sure to mention that it was your fault by trying to how off," the girl replied playfully as she made quick work grooming her horse. She was doing her best to not to stir up much dust, but a cough broke free regardless of her efforts. It wasn't bad, though, so maybe she wouldn't break out into fits this time. "It's natural to be nervous. It'll go away once were riding, I promise."
Smiling, Nichole curled up beside him, leaning her head against his shoulders. How many times have they done this before? Enough to the point where both were completely comfortable with the closeness of one another, and she wouldn't have it any other way. She had missed this, missed him. Things just weren't the same when he wasn't filling the space beside her, being used as her person pillow. The selfish part of her brain had often wished he would take more time off from his career to come and visit, but the young woman had never dreamed of suggesting the idea to him. Fletcher was at the top of his game, the pinnacle of his dreams. Who was she to try and bring him back down to this run down town for the sake of her own wants?

Gabriel nodded slowly, still eyeing the horse beside him. Before Gabriel knew it, he had worked his way onto said horse to his own surprise, unsure of how he'd found himself in this position. He'd always imagined as a kid that if he was going to ride a horse, he'd be doing it much younger and with someone on the horse with him. He definitely had never imagined that he would be here now, having given up quickly the thought of ever riding. "How do you do this all the time?" he asked, nervousness clear in his shaky tone. "I didn't think this was how I was going to die, but it's starting to look like this is it," he said dramatically, his eyes firmly on the ground.
---
Fletcher didn't last long into the movie before he could keep his eyes open. It wasn't new for him to be tired. In fact, he found himself in an almost constant state of exhaustion these days, not to mention how tired he was from his flight. He would have probably fallen asleep sooner if he hadn't been so distracted with food and family. He didn't wake up until shortly before the movie ended, successfully missing the entire thing. He huffed slightly when he came to the realization, only becoming even more frustrated when he realized his arm had fallen asleep as well, an effect of having Nichole laying against him. He sat up slightly, a yawn falling from his lips. "What did I miss?" he asked sarcastically, his eyes falling on the screen. He hardly even recognized the characters, let alone understand anything that they were saying.

It took less time to complete getting her own horse ready. Once done, Daisy had led the way into the arena. The space was cleared of any obstacles so they wouldn't have to worry about running into anything. Before she climbed into her own saddle, she helped Gabriel into his. It was clear that his nervousness was not going away. If anything, it was just more visible. "You get use to it after a while," the girl replied with a small smile. "Are you sure you want to do this? I can led you around once or twice until you get use to it, or we can just skip the ride and go get lunch. I promise I won't be offended."
Nichole knew exactly when Fletcher fell asleep. She had been looking up at her best periodically, making sure that he was enjoying himself and not bored. Yeah, he might have said that he didn't care what movie they watched, but she wanted him to watch something he was interested in. By the second time she glanced his way, the rock star was sound asleep. A smile of amusement grew on her face. All his excitement and energy displayed earlier had vanished. She couldn't bring herself to wake him. So, she left him be while she finished the movie for the second time.
"You mean other then the world ending? Not much," she teased, shifting so she wasn't leaning up against him if he wanted to move as well. "You should go to bed. You went out like a light within the first ten minutes. Jet lag must have hit you hard."

Gabriel quickly shook his head at her offer, shooting her a half smile. "No, I want to do this," he assured her, taking a few deep breaths. "I think I just need a minute to relax." He let his eyes trail to the ground and he bit his bottom lip, still nervous but trying to calm himself. He closed his eyes for a second, feeling his heart rate slow a bit. He looked back over at Daisy, a smile lifting the corner of his lips. "How about you show me how it's done, and I'll just try to follow your lead. I think that's what's going to work best."
---
Fletcher felt a smile spread across his face, sitting up a bit. "Yeah, it definitely did," he agreed, looking over at her. "I'm fine though, let's what another." Truthfully, he was tired, but he didn't want to go to bed yet. He wanted to spend time with her, it had been a long time since they had. "How do you feel about horror this time?" he asked, raising his eyebrows with a playful grin. He had always stood firmly by the idea that nobody really liked horror movies, only watched them if they were with their friends. He had never heard anyone he knew watching them alone. He figured it was something about trying to act too cool with them, that they didn't scare people. "I could use a good jump scare to really wake me up."

Gabriel quickly shook his head. “The faster we get this going the better,” he said, looking over to her with a small smile. “Just tell me what to do and I’ll do it. Prepare to be impressed.” Gabriel still wasn’t entirely comfortable, but he could feel his body relaxing at least some. He thought maybe a few more time doing this and he’d be alright, once he was sure that he knew what he was doing. He wasn’t used to being vulnerable in a way like this, and that in itself made him feel awkward.
—-
Fletcher pretended to think dramatically, his fingers rubbing his chin before a smile broke out across his face. “Not even a question. New one, I want it to actually scare me at least a little bit.” He looked over at her, shrugging. “Well just end up making fun of them either way I think, so it doesn’t matter too much.” Truth be told, he hadn’t watched a scary movie since the last time they’d watched on together because he knew he wouldn’t be able to make jokes about it with his band mates, they actually liked them.

"Alright," Daisy said. "To make him walk, just press your heels against his sides. To make him stop, pull back gently on the reigns. To turn, tug on the reign to turn his head in the direction you want him to go, even though he'll probably just follow the edge of the ring to start with until you start doing anything fancy. That's the pretty much all you have to know at this point until you feel more comfortable." And as an extra measure, she would walk beside him.
"Well, we certainly have a lot of good choices. We have It, or the Annabel series if you're creeped out by dolls. There's a new Jigsaw movie as well. I don't know if it's playing on TV yet or not," Nichole said, grabbing the remote. "Pick your poison. What are you in the the mood for?"
