Gabriel laughed, nodding in agreement. "You probably should because just riding it definitely going to be way too easy," he joked, leaning back in his chair. He knew he had a lot coming. He was usually so cocky in his abilities in anything, even things he was actually good. He wasn't sure what was different about this girl that made him feel comfortable enough to do this with, but he wasn't upset about it. In fact, he liked it. He'd never hit it off with a stranger as well as he had with her already. "Are you alright?" he immediately asked when she started coughing, furrowing his eyebrows. He assumed she'd just accidentally breathed in a little of her drink or something, but he felt a bit protective already. "Don't apologize, it's not your fault."
---
Fletcher sat quietly as he listened to her plan, nodding along as she went. "That sounds perfect to me," he said honestly, feeling happy with the simplicity of it all. He didn't need to do anything extraordinary to be excited anymore. He used to take simple things like movie marathons for granted, but he wasn't sure if he ever would again. As much as he wished he did, Fletcher didn't have much time for things like that anymore. "I'm assuming you already have the movies lined up, which is good because I haven't watched one in quite awhile. I don't think we can really do much exploring that we haven't already done unfortunately, but I think we'll be able to find something to do at least. I wouldn't even be against just going to the park and messing around like we did before." He smiled slightly at the memory, glancing over at her. "If I remember right, we used to be pretty embarrassing actually there because we did such stupid stuff."

Daisy gave a small, assuring smile. "Yeah, I'm fine. Like I said, allergies are killing me. I should probably go take something to clear it up," she said, shrugging off the fit s nothing more than seasonal nuisances. "I'll have to do something because I don't want to be coughing the entire time we're riding. What day do you want to have this date so I know how much cough syrup to drink in order to be good to go?" The girl gave a small laugh even though she knew there would be nothing she could do to stop a coughing fit from happening. Maybe if they went to one of the outdoor arenas, the dust wouldn't be so bad? That would help a little. Of course, there was medicine she was taking to keep things under control, but it only helped with so much.
Nichole couldn't help but laugh as he brought up their youthful stupidity. "Yeah, we did," she agree. "We also didn't care because we told ourselves that everyone else was just jealous of the fun we were having. You know, I wouldn't care if we did those stupid things again. It was nice to just do whatever we wanted and hanging out." Those were probably the moments she missed the most while Fletcher had been away. Without him around to do stuff with, the young woman didn't have her regular excuses to get out of her dysfunctional house. Getting a job helped, but it wasn't the same for obvious reasons. "you know, they actually spent some money to improve the park a bit. There's more flowers and walking paths around it, plus a new playground for the kids. It looks nice."

Gabriel nodded in understanding before shrugging. "I could really go any day honestly. I'll make it work at least, so you can just pick whatever day works best for you. I'll be there, I wouldn't miss it for anything." He smiled at her, thinking about how this date was going to go. He'd left his house this morning in a terrible mood, and yet here he was, happier than he had been in awhile. He hadn't expected to meet anyone while he was gone, and he definitely hadn't expected to land a date, but he wasn't going to complain. It was going to be great, he was going to make sure of that.
---
Fletcher smiled, nodding in agreement. He was never embarrassed about the dumb things they'd done because it had been some of the most fun he'd ever had. "I don't really get to do stuff like that anymore really, so I'd really enjoy doing it again too," he said with a shrug, looking over at her with a slight grin. "I miss doing whatever I want whenever I want sometimes. This is my opportunity. You just have to promise that you won't take pictures and post them everywhere, it might ruin my cool reputation," he joked. "I can't wait to see it. I think the first stop should be this newly installed park. I think I need to check it out, see if it's as good as the one we grew up with."

"Then how about this Saturday?" Daisy asked. "That way you'll have plenty of time to work it into your schedule, and if anything pops up, we'll both have time to let the other know." She had wanted to suggest tomorrow, but that might have seemed a little too eager. Besides, she had a doctor's appointment to go to in the morning, so that wouldn't do. She was way too excited to have to reschedule so soon. "Or give you time to prepare to show off your skills."
"Don't worry, I've never been the best photographer, so there's no worries there. Plus, it'll be hard to take a picture while wrestling you to the ground," Nichole stated, laughing slightly. By this time, they were in the home stretch of their journey. His parents' house was just in sight. "We'll definitely go there after our movie night," she said. It would be the nice to go make fools of themselves before anyone else knew of his presence here. What better way to spend that time than goofing off in the park?
Turning on her blinker, the young woman pulled into the driveway of his old home. "Did you tell them you were coming?" she asked. While they had planned this vacation for months, she wasn't sure if he had informed his parents of his arrival. If he hadn't, then they were probably wondering why she just randomly pulled up. Of course, she was no stranger the the Reeds. The young woman spent so much time with them, they might actually be glad whenever she actually left the house. "Shall I give you a rand entrance?"

Gabriel smiled widely, glad she had picked a day that wasn't too far away. "You're in luck. My plans for Saturday just got cancelled," he joked. "That's perfect for me. It'll give me plenty of time to practice. I don't want to embarrass myself on the first date. I wouldn't stand a chance to get a second then." He check the time and shook his head slightly when he noticed the amount of missed calls and texts from his mom. He flashed Daisy his screen to show her and frown slightly. "Just a guess, but I think she might be mad." He sighed, sitting up. "I guess that should probably be my cue to leave. I've got some things to deal with. But I'm definitely going to see you Saturday. And maybe I could text you? Or is that too eager before the first date? I'm not super familiar with the whole dating rules," he admitted with a slight grin.
---
Fletcher couldn't hide the joy in his face when he finally came into view of his house. He couldn't tear his eyes away, a smile stretched across his face. It had been almost two years after all since he'd really been home to stay, and it felt undeniably good. "I didn't tell them," he admitted after a few seconds of silence. "I only told you to be honest. I sort of wanted to surprise them." He finally tore his eyes away to look over at her. "A grand entrance would be wonderful. I'm sure they'll be glad to see you too, you're practically their daughter too." He opened the door, climbing out of the car as he stared up at the house once again. As quickly as he could, he gathered his bags, practically bouncing in excitement. He followed her to the door, excited to surprise his parents. He had just spoken to them the night before, but he'd failed to mention to them that he'd be flying back and he couldn't wait to see their faces.

"And here I thought you said you wouldn't need practice," Daisy teased. "With the skills you proclaim to have, I would have figured you were already counting on a second date. I'm sure you'll do just fine." She added the last sentence as a serious assurance. The plans that were already forming in her mind wouldn't require any amount of skill. Why make it too complicated and frightening for the boy who had just decided to go riding on a whim? Like him, she wanted the date to go well enough that he might consider a second date, this one of his choosing.
When he showed her his phone screen, filled with the notifications of missed calls and texts from his mother, Daisy sympathized for the boy. She had had plenty of experience with that, but her mom was usually worried to death, checking in every minute to know where she was, if she was safe, and if she had remembered to take her medicine. "You should probably go talk with her," the girl agreed. Then smiled. "I'm not up to date with the dating rules myself, but I have no problem with texting before the first date."
"The key word is 'practically', not actually," Nichole replied in amusement as she got out and watched him gather his bags. "Once they see you, they won't even care if I'm there or not." She waited until he was good to go before leading him up to the front door. Upon reaching the front door, the young woman had him stand beside the door, out of sight, while she knocked on the door. It was kind of good that Fletcher hadn't told his parents of his arrival. Knowing his mother, she would be telling everyone that her son was coming home. Not to brag or for attention, but because she was they kind of mother who cared and loved her son so much, she would have been bursting with happiness and excitement.

Gabriel nodded in agreement, glancing at the phone screen on last time before slipping it back into his pocket. "She's probably going to kill me. I guess she has a reason though because I did sort of just walk out while she was yelling at me." The corners of his mouth lifted slightly in a smile and he shrugged. "Pray that she takes it easy on me. I might need it." He stood up, feeling reluctant to leave. He was having a genuinely good time, and he really felt like he could talk to her for hours on end and never get bored. But unfortunately he'd come to the conclusion that this would likely be the last time he'd see her before their date later in the week. "I really better go. The longer I'm gone, the more mad she's going to get. But I'll see you on Saturday." He picked up his cup, which he'd realized he'd next to forgot about once he was in conversation, and tossed it into a nearby trashcan. "I'm going to text you later!" he promised, and with one final wave, he started in the direction of home, a smile permanently plastered on his face as he thought about what had just happened.
---
Fletcher felt excitement fill his chest as she knocked. As the door opened, her heard a gasp fall from his mother's mouth before he was engulfed in a hug. His arms wrapped around her without second thought as he laughed softly. "Surprise!" he said as she stepped back, looking up at him. He quickly explained that he was going to be home for awhile, and, after another hug from his mom and a quick hug from his dad, he was carrying his bags up the stairs to his old room. "I know we're having a movie night," he said over his shoulder, "but how do you feel about making dinner first? I want to do it for them," he said, referring to his parents. There was no denying the sacrifices they'd made to get him where he was. The money spent on guitars, the time they'd spent taking him to and from lessons, allowing him to fill the house with his music while he practiced, trusting him enough to let him join a band and travel around to do small bar shows. He didn't know how many parents would allow their children to do stuff like that, but his did and he knew there was no proper way for him to ever repay them.

Daisy laughed softly and made a shooing motion at him. "Go on, and get going," she said. "I don't want her to kill you before we have a chance to go on our date." The girl didn't want him to leave either. For just a moment, she felt like any other teenager her age again. Laughing, hanging out, flirting with a cute guy, all without having to worry about her illness. Sure, it raised it's ugly head towards the ending of their conversation, but it wasn't too bad. It at least wasn't the reason why he had to leave. "I'll be looking forward to seeing it," She called in response to his promise of a text. Lifting her hand, she waved a farewell to him before watching the boy walk away. Then she sat there, mind reviewing the conversation they just had, smiling to herself. As strange as it might have been, the blonde haired girl wouldn't trade it for anything. Now it was time to get home herself before her mother started to freak out. Standing up, Daisy gathered up her empty cup to throw away. Then began to make the journey home.
(We can time skip to the date if you whenever you want.)
Nichole laughed and wisely stepped clear of his mother when she caught sight of Fletcher. This was not a time for her to interfere with their reunion. After all, his parents probably missed him more than she could. Only when the hugs and explanations were over did she take her place beside him again to follow him inside. "Of course," she answered. "You're probably starving from the long flight, so that's why I worked dinner into our plans. Your parents will also want to catch up with you before I hide you away all night long. They're the only ones I'm willing to share you with right now." It was actually the Reeds who shared Fletcher with her, since they hadn't run her off when the two first became friends. They had graciously allowed a girl like her into their home to be their son's best friend, or one of his best friends. And they still continued to make her feel at home. She really wanted to find a way to thank them for all the years spent here, but she had yet to find something suitable. For now, making dinner would have to do.

(yeah that's fine by me)
Gabriel checked the time for what felt like the millionth time that day. Time seemed to be passing by so slowly, and he knew it was because he was looking forward to something. That's how the cruel rules of time worked. He had told Daisy he wasn't a morning person, and that wasn't a lie. He had been today though. He couldn't sleep in because he was too excited. He'd quickly showered, got dressed, and ate breakfast and now he was just sitting around, watching the time slowly pass by. Once it was finally time for him to leave, he practically sprinted out of the house. He didn't want to appear too eager, so he only showed up a couple minutes before the time they had agreed. His eyes scanned the area around as he looked for her. He decided against texting her, at least not for a few more minutes. He didn't want to bother her before their date even began, so he refrained, instead tapping his fingers on his leg impatiently.
---
Fletcher laughed, shaking his head slightly. "You don't want to share me?" he teased, dropping his stuff in his room and smiling. "I didn't realize I was something that you owned. But I'm oddly okay with it." He flopped down on his bed and closed his eyes, letting out a sigh. "I've missed this so much. Believe it or not, this is way more comfortable than hotel beds." He laid there in silence for a few seconds before sitting up and glancing around. His parents must have not come in here at all since he'd left because everything was exactly how he remembered it, clutter on the desk and all. "It sort of feels weird to actually be here. I've thought about it and dreamed about it a lot, but to really be here. It's a lot different, I don't know how to describe it." Fletcher could almost pretend he was a high schooler again sitting in his room. It made him feel like nothing had changed in his life, which couldn't be further from the truth.

Daisy had started her day like she normally did, with a little more excitement and nervousness. She had showered the night before, so she didn't need to waste time with that. So, at seven o'clock that morning, the girl got to work dressing. Normally, if she was simply heading to the stables by herself, she would have just thrown on an old pair of jeans and a t-shirt. However, since this was a date, she decided to put a little more effort into her look. She had the time to, after all. So, Daisy pulled on a new pair of dark jeans, a peach tank-top, and a matching plaid shirt with darker pink and white integrated into the pattern. And as always, she topped the outfit off with her black riding boots. Once dressed, she spent the net thirty minutes fixing her hair and make-up. A simple pony tail wouldn't do for today. No, today she curled the ends just enough to give it shape before pulling it up into a bun, leaving her bangs to frame her face. Then she got work applying her make-up, which now included eye-liner and mascara for a more complete look.
At ten minutes till the agreed meeting time, she walked up to the coffee shop they first meet. It didn't take long to spot a familiar face. Smiling, she picked up her pace and approached him. "Good morning, Gabriel," Daisy greeted, stopping beside the boy. "I hope you're ready for the day I have planned."
"I don't doubt it," Nichole agreed, leaning up against the door frame with her arms crossed lightly in front of her. A smile of amusement on her face. It was nice seeing him back in his old habitat. They had spent so many days in his room that she was beginning to miss the room as well. "There's no place like your own room. Hotels are nice, but lets face it, sometimes they just aren't the same as a place you grew up. They just haven't seemed to master the 'just like home' feel."

Gabriel turned when he heard her voice, a small smile immediately appearing on his face. "Good morning, Daisy," he repeated back at her, quickly looking her up and down. "Wow," he said, meeting her eyes again. "You look lovely today." He wasn't sure why, but he felt even more nervous now that she was here. It wasn't his first date, but this felt different. He still wasn't sure why, but it did. He already felt different about her than he had about any other girl he'd been out without. "I just want you to know that I've been practicing," he joked, "and it's not too late to drop out of our bet. I don't think you have any chance of winning if I'm being honest."
---
Fletcher nodded in agreement. "Hotels aren't even close to being home," he said, motioning for her to sit as well. "You get used to it anyway though." He smiled slightly and shook his head. "But I don't think I'll ever not miss it here regardless of what I'm doing or where I live. I think about it every day." He looked over at her and smiled slightly. "I definitely think about my parents every day. And you. I miss you guys so much you don't even know. The bands great and our crew is great and the fans are great, but nobody can compete with you and them. It's like a void no one can really fill I guess."

"Thanks," Daisy replied a little sheepishly. "I figured it wouldn't kill me to wear something nicer than my regular barn clothes. You don't look too bad yourself." There was probably no reason for her to compliment his own outfit, but her nerves were getting to her as well. So when he changed the subject, she jumped on it. "Oh, I'm sure you have," she replied with a smile. "I think I'll continue with the bet. It won't hurt to try. Even if I don't win, maybe I'll learn something by watching you."
Nichole pushed herself from the wall to take the spot beside him on the bed. Personal space had flown out the window long ago for them, so she didn't care that their arms and legs and sides were touching. "We missed you too," she said, turning her head to meet his gaze. "It's just not the same watching you on TV or online, or even hearing you over the radio. I much prefer to have the actual Fletcher Reed sitting right beside me. I've been lost without my partner in crime. Or really, I've gotten into more trouble than I should without my voice of reason."

Gabriel grinned at her words but didn't comment. He wasn't sure why the fact that she'd basically admitted she'd dressed up more than usual for him made him so happy, but it did. "I hope you brought your wallet then, because there's no way that I'm paying later," he said with mock cockiness. "You probably should've brought a notebook too. You know," he trailed off, glancing over at her with a mischievous smile, "to take notes." He offered his arm to her. "We should probably get going though. I'm really excited about today. I want to show you all my skills."
---
"I'm sure you've been getting into a lot of trouble without your conscious here to guide you," Fletcher teased, nudging her gently with his shoulder. "You'd probably have ended up in jail if it weren't for me in high school. Some of the stuff you wanted to do was just... crazy." He leaned back, resting his weight on his hands and he stared at the wall across from him. "At least you had some way of hearing me though. I've been living off texting and the few calls that we both have time for. It's really sucked." He glanced at her again. "It's not all bad though. It makes you step back and appreciate everything more. I never would've thought twice about sitting here with you a few years ago, and now it's the best thing in the world."

Daisy laughed. "At least you have confidence. Let's just hope you can keep it once in the saddle," she said. The girl took his arm he had offered to her with a small blush. Gabriel was nothing if not a charming boy. He was probably the only one who could talk the way he did and get away with it. "Then let's not waste any more time. It's this way." And with that, she began to head down the street in the direction of the stables.
Nichole laughed softly and nudged him back. He wasn't lying. There had been some stunts she would have pulled that borderlined illegal. Had Fletcher not talked some sense into her, she might not even be sitting here. It wasn't that she did it intentionally, but rather her planning and ideas sometimes didn't always involve a lot of common sense. She's gotten better about it now, though.
"Then I'm glad to give you something to appreciate," the young woman said. "I wish I could say the same about my own house, but I can certainly say I feel the same with having you back. By the time you head back to your band, you'll be sick of hearing me talk, I'm sure of it."

Gabriel laughed, following after her. "They say to fake it until you make it," he said with a smile. "That's what I'm doing with the whole confidence thing, because between you and me, I'm actually really nervous right now." He didn't know why he thought it was a good idea to tell her, but he figured it was fine when he didn't feel embarrassed by it. Although they'd only known each other for less than a week, he already felt quite comfortable with her. It almost felt like they'd already known each other for months. He allowed her to lead the way, glancing over at her every once and a while, each time with the same small smile.
---
Fletcher rolled his eyes, hardly believing the words had even come out of her mouth. "I could never be sick of you, don't even say that," he said honestly, his voice sincere. "You could literally talk nonstop for the next few weeks and I'd still be right here listening. I do need someone to catch me up on everything that's been happening around here." He wanted to know everything, regardless of how small. It would be a nice relief to what he usually heard about. He closed his eyes for a few seconds before hauling himself off of the bed, holding his hand out to help her up. "C'mon, I'm starving. Long flight, I think we better start dinner." He made his way back down the stairs to the kitchen, glancing over his shoulder at her. "What do you think we should make? I'm sure you already know, I can eat just about anything. I'm not too picky."

"Most people are whenever they first come for lessons," Daisy assured him. "They forget how big horses are until they're beside them. It's normal to be nervous, but I assure you, you won't do horrible. I haven't planned anything too challenging, and the horse you'll be riding is excellently trained. The only way you could fall is if you leaned too far in the wrong direction." For someone who had grown up riding, she never shared that nervousness. However, she knew that not everyone had her level of experience. "If you want to stop at anytime, jut say so."
Nichole smiled at his words. She really had missed him. Life just seemed to crash down on her a few weeks after he left to create his career. Responsibilities popped up everywhere and there was no one she could talk to in order to escape from her stress. So both of them had a lot of catching up to do. "I don't know. Do you want a simple meal or a feast?" she asked, taking his hand and standing up.
|
|
|
Post by mop1800 on Oct 29, 2017 18:12:34 GMT -5
Gabriel smiled slightly. "It's not the horses that are making me nervous," he said under his breath. "I'm glad you aren't going to push me too hard," he said normally, glancing over at her. "I don't need to die while doing this," he joked. He wasn't too worried about the actually horse riding. He didn't think it was going to be necessarily easy, but he couldn't imagine simply riding being that difficult. All you had to do was sit, or so he assumed. Competitions and thing like that, that's where he figured it started getting difficult.
---
Fletcher thought for a few seconds before deciding. "Obviously a feast. I'm starving, I could probably eat everything in this house. Whatever we make though it better be easy because I'm not that great of a cook." He thought back to any time he'd ever tried and cringed at how terribly it had turned out. His chef skills ended at things that could be microwaved basically, which was alright he supposed. It wasn't too often that he had to make himself food anyway.

Daisy heard the muttered statement, and a blush rose to her cheeks. Although, instead of commenting on it, she laughed at next words. "You won't die, I promise. We're going to be in an inside arena with everything moved out of the way so there's nothing you could get hurt on. I'll be sure of it. We'll ride for thirty minutes or so, depending on when you get tired of walking in circles." Even she couldn't stand riding in an arena for long periods of time. Sure, if she was training for a competition, she didn't mind, but when she wasn't? It was pretty boring after a while. That's why she preferred taking her horse out to the hiking trails every so often.
"Well then, what should the main course be? We can plan the rest around that," Nichole offered. She wan't surprised of his lack of cooking skills. When he lived on a tour bus for the majority of his band career, he wouldn't exactly have a chance to improve his culinary skills. "Don't worry, I can handle all the more complex food choices. You can stick with the simpler side dishes and fetch ingredient. Plus, your mom may want to supervise the process. She might not want to risk us burning down her kitchen."

Gabriel nodded at her words, a small smile gracing his lips. He was quite exciting about the entire thing. He thought he probably could walk around in circles all day if it meant that he'd still be on a date with her, but he wasn't about to tell her that. He wasn't even sure if she liked him all that much. They barely knew each other after all, and he thought he could be a bit hard to handle at times. "If I get hurt, you're paying my hospital bills. Lord knows I can't afford that, and my mom would not be very happy about it. She might just kill me for it." He glanced over at her. "You are going to show me how this all works right?"
---
Fletcher thought for a few moments, his head reeling. It seemed to be an important decision because it would be his first home made meal in quite awhile. "I guess we should just see what we have here and go with it. I don't really feel like going out to buy anything." He opened the fridge, his eyes scanning over the food contained inside. He noticed the plethora of leftovers, his face showing a small smile. He could only assume his mom hadn't quite been able to adjust to not having him home as they'd rarely had leftovers before. He glanced over his shoulder at Nichole, beckoning her over. "I know I said we should cook something, and I still think we should, but how do you feel about eating some of this stuff?" he said, gesturing in the fridge. "I've never seen this much stuff in here in my life."

Daisy laughed softly. The day had barely begun and the boy was all but bouncing with excitement. It kind of made her feel bad that she wasn't showing so much eagerness as he was. "I thought you were a pro at this?" she teased, referring to his earlier boasting of how great he was at riding. "I would never put you up on a horse without telling you what to and what not to do. I would feel horrible if you got hurt on the first date, especially if I'm trying for a second."
Her cheeks flushed slightly at her forwardness. Gabriel probably wasn't even that into her. Who knew if he actually wanted a second date. If he didn't, then she couldn't blame him, but if he did, well, she wanted to make sure she didn't do anything to bore him. In five more minutes, they would be at the stables, so she figured now would be the time to answer any questions he might have. "Is there anything you want to know before it's too late for you to back out?"
While he inspected to fridge, Nichole went over to take out some of the pots and pans they may have to use. If they didn't use some, then she would put them back where they belong. At his beckoning, she walked over to see what he had found. "Oh, yeah, we can use some of that," she said, grabbing one of the containers to look at its contents. "She sends leftovers to me all the time. I've been tempted just to join them for dinner every night just so they don't waste as much food as they do. And let me tell you, your mom's leftovers are still ten times better than anything made at my house. So, yes, lets use this. We can't o wrong if we use something that's already delicious."

Gabriel looked at her in surprise at her words. He didn't know a lot about her, but he was fairly confident that he was the one that was maybe a little too blunt and straightforward, but her saying that just might take the title from him. Regardless, a smile spread across his face. "You don't have to worry too much about that. If you want a second date, we're going to have a second date. I don't care if it has to happen in a hospital." Of course, Gabriel was referring to him hurting himself, having no idea of the implications his words held about her own health. "I don't think I have any questions yet," he told her honestly, his gaze taking in the scenery around him. "I'm hoping to just go with the flow."
---
Fletcher smiled at that. He always knew his parents considered Nichole one of their own, it wasn't something they ever tried to hide. She'd been told on more than one occasion that she could come over whenever she wanted, that she didn't need to ask to stay over. He had always been grateful this his parents seemed to love his best friend as much as he did. "You should eat with them. They would love that. I think they might get lonely with no one here honestly, and they've already claimed you as part of the family. I think they like you more than they like me most of the time." He closed the fridge, setting the container on the counter.

Daisy had to smile at his comment, even if it was a little bittersweet. She knew he meant that the one who might be in the hospital would be him, but she honestly didn't know what might happen to her. For all she knew, she could have another coughing fit right there in front of him. She hoped that wouldn't happen. At least for this one time, she just wanted her illness to stay hidden. "Go with the flow it is. Trust me, once you're on the horse, things are easy. I'll make sure the arena is free of obstacles so even if you can't control the horse, you won't be running into anything. And, of course, I'll be sure to stay beside you until you're comfortable."
Just as he was finishing her statement, the stable came into view. The front building was small, no more than a one story house used to meet with new riders or arrange leasing agreements. You know, the business office for the place. Behind that was the barn, the largest of the two buildings. They would stop by the smaller building to let the owner know they were there, but after that, their time would be spent inside the barn.
"Trust me, I've taken them up on their offer a couple of times," Nichole assured him. "there's no finer place to eat than right here." Plus, she wasn't a big fan of cooking. She was also really grateful that his family all put took her in. If she could, she would gladly move in to be their adoptive daughter. They would certainly be better parents than the ones he had now. "Good to know. The next time you come home, you might find your bedroom has been taken over by me. But don't worry, I'll be sure to keep your stuff stored in nice bags in the closets."

Gabriel grimaced at the though of losing control of the horse, the thought at least a little scary regardless if there was obstacles or not. He didn't want to fall off, and he certainly didn't want to get trampled or something. He'd heard of that happen, although he was sure it was incredibly rare. He was also feeling quite confident in his trust of Daisy, so he didn't want to dwell on something as terrible as that. "Okay, sounds good," he said, trying to sound as calm as possible despite the rampant thoughts in his head. "I just want it to be known that our next date has got to be something you've never done before. It's only fair that way." He glanced over at her with a grin. "Then you can see how scary it can actually be to do something new."
---
"I wouldn't even be that surprised," Fletcher said with a small smile, turning towards her. He leaned against the counter, his arms crossed in front of him. "I guess that would mean I'd have to take up the guest bedroom when I came home. Seems fitting." He grabbed the container he had taken out of the fridge and popped the lid off, slipping it into the microwave quickly. "Knowing you though, you'd keep all my stuff that you liked. I'd never see half of my belongings again if you were to move into my room," he teased, a mischievous look in his eye. "You always have been the type to steal, especially from me."

"That sounds perfectly fair," Daisy replied. If they were going to have a second date, than she figured it was obvious to let Gabriel choose what they should do. Something not as challenging as horse riding, but something that he enjoyed. She was actually curious to know what he would choose to do. However, she didn't know if she would actually be scared of anything he would come up with.
Finally, they arrived at the front door. "Last chance to back out before it's too late," the girl said playfully as she opened the door to the main office of the stables. Of course, she knew he wouldn't suddenly change his mind, but just in case, she gave him the chance if he had second thoughts.
Nichole laughed as she searched for something to make with the leftovers. "Oh, yes, the good stuff I'll be keeping," she confirmed. "Mostly your clothes and movies, and whatever else I've been threatening to steal since day one. Key word is threatened. I haven't actually taken anything from you, not even since you were gone. Well, maybe except your parents."

Gabriel let his eyes scan over the inside of the office. "Oh, I'm not about to back out. If this is what I have to do to impress you, then I'm gonna do it." He looked at her with a playful smile. "If I'm not good at this, please don't hold it against me though. I don't want it to ruin my shot for our next date." He wouldn't deny that the closer the time came for them to actually ride the horses, the more nervous he got. He didn't really know what to expect from this, but he was hoping she'd take it easy on him. He was sure she was going to. She'd been nothing but nice to him every time they'd spoke, which granted hadn't been a lot of times. He just couldn't help that he already really liked her.
---
Fletcher smiled slightly, leaning against the counter and crossing his arms. "I know you haven't actually taken anything, that doesn't mean that you don't want to. I've told you though that you can take whatever you want. Especially now that I'm not here a lot. If it's here, you probably could just take it. I wouldn't even miss it." He pushed himself off the counter and moved to stand beside her. "Do you need help with something? I feel like I've done nothing." His eyes followed her gaze to the things she was looking at, letting his eyes travel over the stuff.

If only he new he had already impressed her. While she had had several flings in her high school years, she had yet to meet a guy that had been as straightforward and easy to talk to as Gabriel had been the first day they meet. He had made her laugh and joke in ways she normally didn't when around strangers. Not to mention, he got her to agree to a date in the shortest time span yet. "Then don't say I didn't warn you," she said. The girl called out to the owner of the stables as a woman dressed in an old t-shirt and jeans walked passed a door way. The woman backed up just long enough to confirm it was alright to use the indoor arena before disappearing once more.
"That was Jackie," Daisy explained as she led him to the stables. "She's the owner. There are several people who board horses here, so I checked with her first to make sure no one else would be riding the same time we are."
"Yeah, but then I would just feel guilty about taking your stuff, even if you have given me permission to do so," Nichole replied. While she knew certain things would be okay, she really didn't want to relieve him of everything he owned. What would be the point of coming home to visit if he didn't have anything to come home to? She looked up as he stopped beside her, handing him a few vegetables. "You can be in charge of chopping these. Just to add some more flavor."

Gabriel nodded in understanding, following her to the stables. "So are the horses we're gonna ride actually yours?" He assumed, considering this seemed to be a big passion of her, that she owned her own horse. She may have even mentioned it, although he wasn't entirely sure. He wished he could remember their entire conversation clearly, but if he was being honest, it was a bit of a blur. It had happened so quickly and he would hate to admit it, but he had been a bit nervous. Later that day when he had tried to recall what they'd talked to, he was disappointed to find that he couldn't remember everything that they'd talked about. The only thing that made him think it was okay was the thought that he had the opportunity to see her again and didn't have to live with the idea that he didn't remember enough about the girl he'd met.
---
Fletcher took the vegetables from his hand, turning to set them on the counter. He searched a few moments before finding a cutting board and setting it beside them. "If I cut off a finger, just know that it's on you," he joked, retrieving a knife shortly after. He started the process of cutting up the vegetables quite slowly as to try to save himself an injury. He didn't want to get too eager and accidentally hit something that wasn't supposed to be cut. He glanced over at Nichole every few moments, a slight smile gracing his face. He'd definitely missed this. It was so simple. They were after all just two friends making a meal together, but the simplicity of it all was what he liked. He didn't have to worry about making it to stage on time or making sure all his bandmates had all their things (he'd sort of taken up a parent role somehow) before they left. There were no real worries, and it was refreshing.

"I'm going to be riding mine, you're going to be riding my mom's," Daisy answered. "Both my parents were apart of a lot of shows and competitions. That's kind of where they meet actually. So you don't have to worry about the horse's training. Morty is the sweetest horse you could ever meet. He's a little on the tall side, so I hope that isn't a problem." Sizing up Gabriel, she hoped the boy wouldn't have any problems getting up onto him. There was always the steps they used for new students, but the girl had a feeling he would want to try getting on without assistance. "If he's too tall, than I'm sure we can switch."
Nichole giggled as she watched him chop up the vegetables. When she was sure he wouldn't actually cut off a finger, she returned to her own work. For a moment, they stayed in a comfortable silence, each enjoying the other's company. Even if there were half a million things she wanted to talk with him about, the young woman allowed the peace to settle around them like old times. It was nice having Fletcher right beside her once more in a spot they used to hang out constantly. After about fifteen minutes or so, the meal was all but ready. "Think of anything else we should add before serving this?" Nichole asked, turning to her best friend to get his opinion of the food. This meal was for him, after all.

Gabriel nodded slowly, a smile creeping onto his face. "I think I've really got myself into a situation because you're basically a professional, I can tell already. You were literally born to do this." He glanced over at her for a second, shaking his head slightly. He knew she had been doing this for a long time, he just hadn't realized that her parents did it as well. This girl probably could ride a horse before she'd even learned how to walk. He straightened up at the mention of the horse being tall, wanting to at least appear as though he wouldn't have any problems. "I really hope that doesn't' have to happen because that just might hurt my pride," he joked, glancing over at her. "I'm honestly just preparing myself right now for having to pay wherever we go after this because regardless of how much I've said I'm going to be a pro, I don't think there's a chance at all that I'm going to be good at this."
---
A sigh of relief escaped Fletcher's lips as he finished the vegetables, glad that it had went quite smoothly and especially glad that there was no injury. He felt a sense of pride from finishing the simple tasks, his hands dropping to his sides in satisfaction. "I think that'll be good. The perfect coming home meal," he said with a slightly smile, looking at her. "Thanks for helping me make it, and by that I mean practically doing everything." He grabbed a few plates from the cupboard along with silverware from a drawer and set them on the table. "Here, we can eat at the table. That's definitely something I haven't done a whole lot of since I left." He took the food, slowly moving over to the table. "This is gonna feel just like an old family dinner," he said with a small smile, feeling nostalgic a bit. It really did remind him of when his life wasn't so hectic.

Daisy laughed gently as she lead his down the long hallway of stalls. There were many horses who watched them as they walked, still safely in their little homes. "Yeah, I kind of was," she admitted. Her parents had pictures of them holding her when she baby and toddler while they were riding. "If it makes you feel better, there's a guy who comes in who's much taller than you are, and he he has to use the steps in order to climb up. So it's nothing that should hurt your pride. And I expected the best feast your wallet can handle before it starts to fall apart." She was joking, of course. They would probably just end up going to a cheap fast food place after this.
"Nonsense, you did the most dangerous part," Nichole said with a smile. She added some the chopped vegetables in with the rest of the food to cook. The rest would be good to have a side dish. Taking a few dishes, she bean to move the cooked food onto plates and bowls, if needed, so they could be taken over to the table. That way everyone could get what they want and how much they wanted. "It will now that you're home," the red-headed woman agreed, casting a happy glance to her friend. Dinners here just wasn't the same without him adding to the conversations. They would always find something to talk about, even if they had spent the entire day together. There were just no dull moments when he was around. "Why don't you go see where your parents are and tell them to come eat? You've got to be starving. We should eat before everything gets cold."
