Disclaimer: This didn't happen to me. I'm doing an experiment.
What would you do if your friend called you ugly, and then told you to get over it because that's their opinion and they were just being honest?

Probably give some snarky comment like "Thanks! Glad you finally noticed!"
I genuinely wouldn't even be that upset. I have a pretty mediocre self-image of myself at this point and I stopped caring if people thought I was pretty or not years ago. I know I'm not gorgeous, some may not even go so far as to say I'm pretty. That's why I have a personality instead xD

I don't think they'd be true friends if they insulted you like that. I'd pretty much tell them to screw off.

probably laugh and then agree with them. then go home and proceed to think about it for the next month until I watch some motivational videos and convince myself that I don't need said person in my life and that I'm fine the way I am.

I mean I'd be sad
I wouldn't be surprised that she thought it
but I'd be very surprised she actually said it
I could never end the friendship over something like that though
god knows she owes it to me to be a jerk to me sometime

I'd probably shrug it off but it'd actually really make me me upset despite the fact I already feel sort of bad about myself anyway

Thanks for all the responses everyone. I asked because Youtube recommended a video to me today of this very topic.
This guy who I don't want to name because I don't want him to get anymore views, made a video complaining about how someone ended a friendship with him because he called them ugly. He said that he has every right to call them ugly, and they should just suck it up and deal with it because it's true. And anyone who doesn't tell you that you're ugly is a fake friend. And then he went on to say that they're a bad person for ending their friendship over this and how they're running from the truth. And how "true friends" should be as blunt as possible to one another and if you don't like it deal and a bunch of other garbage. Basically playing the victim like he always does and blaming everyone else.
I shouldn't be surprised this person would make this video because they're a terrible person anyways, but this struck a nerve with me. It doesn't matter if you think someone is ugly or not. You don't need to tell them. You're not accomplishing anything by doing that.
Anyways I wanted to know how people here would react

i would brush it off in the conversation, but it would severely hurt my relationship with them and i'd definitely cry when i was alone. even though i'd agree with certain statements, i'd be extremely hurt nonetheless.

well personally i call all my friends ugly and vice versa bc we love each other
but in all seriousness calling me ugly is one thing, that makes u a crap friend. but if u try to justify it with "that's my opinion" and "i'm just being honest" then ur a crap person too and that's 100% their problem not mine lol

While I do actually mean my last post. Tbh I'd send it where it came from with "right back at you." Followed by terminating the friendship. I got a sad self esteem and honestly don't need anyone else making it worse. Not that I have any friends who would ever be so rude.

i just say "literally im a brain piloting a pile of flesh. besides, vanity is for those who are pride-filled anyways. i have better things to be proud of, things i have control over." its happened like multiple times and im a condescending ********* (i've never called people ugly to be "blunt" with them tho) also those people that called me ugly all ended up being ex friends because you don't just insult people and brush it off like it's okay. also i think i know what youtuber you're talking about yikes yikes yikes edit: i think that youtuber doesn't know the divide between bluntness and bullying. he'll tell people they're fat, ugly, or ******** and brush it off by saying "i'm not insulting you, i'm saying the truth." which i find completely ironic because all the insults he makes are subjective things. and all the people he calls ugly to be "blunt" with deserve better than to be around or post for him. Yeah, he's terrible. How he has any fans is beyond me. He's a huge bully and manipulator, but covers it up by saying he's just telling it like it is when in reality the only thing he cares about is hurting people. He thrives on making other people feel terrible about themselves, and then he plays the victim when people have finally had enough of him. And it's clear to me that he's picking on this other person because they're a much bigger youtuber who gets way more views than he does. He's angry his channels are dying, so he goes around trying to start drama and pick on people to get any views that he can. And he knows that he's picking on this person's deepest insecurities that they have battled with their whole life and using it against them to hurt them. He's so disgusting and terrible.

one of my closest middle school friends told me that i was ugly like he wasn't even saying it in a joking manner & i kind of laughed it off but all my life i've known im ugly and struggled w my looks sooo i was highkey hurt and ngl i've cried about it when that memory is rehashed.
but if a friend called me ugly now i would probably not try to hide my pain and like actually tell them that it wasn't ok and i'd probably reconsider our friendship. i mean my friends and i joke abt hating each other and stuff but we never say anything about appearance

My best friend once implied I was ugly. I'm pretty sure she didn't realize what she said but it really hurt. I forgave her, she never means to hurt me but sometimes when she talks she phrases things into hurtful ways and she just doesn't realize it.l
