Dalton stayed quiet as she spoke. When he focused on the softness of her voice, he was able to push away his detective thoughts, the ones constantly buzzing and whispering him to find the next lead, the right answer. There didn't have to be a right answer, here, not if it was causing her pain. He almost wanted to stop her before she spoke, just so she wouldn't have to relive whatever she was about to tell him, but he knew firsthand that you had to work through your feelings to be able to come out okay on the other side of it all.
When his father died, Dalton had locked himself away in his room for days. Maybe weeks. It was hard to tell. He had covered up all his mirrors with his sheets, so he wouldn't have to look at his reflection and see his father on the other side. Except for the glasses, Dalton looked just like him. He waited in the quiet of the room for the feeling of being lost to pass. Zeus was allowed in to bring food, talk gently to him. His mother arrived after the arrangements were all handled, and they sat together in the quiet. "I know it's going to feel easy to cut yourself off, but these moments are the ones that no one can handle alone." she had said, and Dalton laid his head on her lap as she began to weep, in the silent way mothers do when they don't want their children to see. He knew she was saying it as much for herself as it was for him, but Dalton didn't know how much it could apply to him. After all, it wasn't like he had any friends.
Dalton Black was extroverted, friendly, and always had something good to say about everyone. He was the perfect classmate, the one to share his notes and always happy to sit with you at lunch. There was never more to it than that. If it wasn't for his wonderful family, he would have been utterly alone.
And then there was Aika.
He didn't know it, but his grip on her hand tightened as he tried to compose himself until she finished speaking. Even if she was recounting all this for his benefit, Dalton needed to keep it together for her. They couldn't both be falling apart.
Her hands were cold.
They had been back then, too.
When Dalton came home from school that day, he bounded into his living room to find a girl sitting on his couch with the saddest expression he had ever seen.
His father had driven him home from school and explained in the car. Some friends of his had recently taken in their niece. They were doing their best, but they hadn't gotten used to being guardians yet. They needed a bit of help, and the niece- Aika- was lonely without her parents and away from her home country. "She could use a friend, I think." he mused, hands on the steering wheel. "She's about your age."
"Perfect!!" Dalton bounced in his seat, already excited to help.
"Hi! You're Aika, right?"
She blinked and said, "...Yes. Hello." in a small voice.
Grinning, Dalton took her hand, shaking it the way grown-ups did. Her hands were cold, so Dalton didn't let go. He started to excitedly give her a tour of the house, showing her all the places they were going to be spending their time in. Dalton was determined neither of them would be alone again.
It was impossible, what she was saying, but hearing her say it, there was something inside him being made whole again. He wasn't losing his mind. They were all real. There were still concerns, of course. The suggestions of a mental block wasn't out of the question, he supposed, but the fact that there was a second option (and that the second option was that his memories were somehow erased) was even more troubling. Still, Dalton wasn't thinking about that in this moment. Whatever mysteries were afoot with him and his family, they paled in comparison to Aika.
Gently, he pulled her towards him, hugging her again. He guided her head to rest on his shoulder, and this time, his arms wrapped around her waist, trying to encompass as much of her as he could. "I'm sorry, Aika. I never wanted- I never want you to feel that alone again. Whatever the reason, I'm sorry I caused you so much pain. I'll never leave you again. If you'll have me."

“A bit. I thought of telling her that I shouldn’t have taken out my reactions to those memories on her. She was just doing what I asked her to. I shouldn’t have gotten angry at her for that.” After he apologized, Lucas wasn’t going to ask Elizabeth to search his memories again. He didn’t want to know what might be found, but he knew enough about the most important ones to not feel like he needed to learn more. He was content. featherleg(Is this completely in line with 2016-2017 Lucas? No, but it’s fine xD)

RosestarAika had, for the majority of her life, been alone. By herself. While she did have companions and friends, they had all in time created their own worlds to be content in. Families of their own, careers and goals to pursue. Even though she had been welcomed into said circles before, there was never a place of permanence for her. Nothing ever felt like home to her. There were a variety of reasons as to why, far too many to count, from the feeling of being used to just not fitting in properly. Thus, she had come to the conclusion that she would wander through her life by herself, feeling forever estranged. In this moment in time, she was glad to be proven wrong for once. As Dalton pulled her in, her arms naturally wrapped around his shoulders. With her head nestled between the crook of his neck, she felt a surge of relief and warmth wash over her as he spoke softly to her. Tears slowly rolled down her cheeks as a smile broke through, returning to its rightful place. “I’d love nothing more, Dalton.” Her voice, despite the tears, was happy, joyful, hopeful. “And it’s not your fault, it never was. Besides, we have each other now. We aren’t out of time, remember? You said so yourself.”

Misty“Well...that’s a good starting point.” Selena said with a half shrug. “You might want to decide now if you would be alright offering your assistance in a future task as a form of exchange for the ordeal. I don’t remember the specifics of your contract or agreement with her, but I know Elizabeth doesn’t like to offer her services for free, even to someone like myself.” Selena was resourceful when it came to making deals with her boss, and from time to time had even beat her at her own game, allowing her to accumulate favors from her occasionally. However...she wasn’t sure the same could be said about her brother in this circumstance.

Right, his agreement with Elizabeth. Between his outburst and the time he had spent with Selena, he has almost forgotten about the deal he had made with the other vampire in exchange for the memory search. “I’ll keep that in mind when I speak with her.” But Lucas has already made up his mind. He was going to offer his assistance to her. It was already part of the deal he had made with her. Now, he would just need to do more to smooth things over with her. featherleg

Nodding to her brother, Selena proceeded to exit the car, guiding them towards the entrance of the Den. After checking the two of them via the security pad stationed outside, they entered the main lobby to find the building relatively quiet. There were a few people scattered about downstairs that they could see from the gallery above, but it was a calmer scene in comparison to the last time the two had been there. “Seems we lucked out crowd wise.” She muttered to Lucas as they made their way over to Elizabeth's office. The rooms windows were covered with blackout curtains at the moment, making it hard for the two to perceive if she was actually in her office, and if she was, whether or not she was occupied with work. “That...that doesn’t bode well. She could still be resting but...if she is, why wouldn’t she return home?” Brushing the thought away, Selena turned towards her brother with a perplexed look. “Memory searches take a lot of energy out of Gen. Two’s, as I’m sure Elizabeth explained to you before she began the procedure. Recovering from them is similar to recovering to migraines, staying in dark rooms with low to no light sources and sleeping, however, to induce sleep, one must feed on a pure source. Otherwise the urge of bloodthirst makes it impossible to rest. I trust that she is resting now, given that access to finding someone to feed off of isn’t an issue for her. My main concern is that this search in particular may have been more taxing than what she is used to. We may both get wrapped into a favor if that’s the case.” Her eyes flickered back to the office before looking back at him. “Regardless, we should at least check to see if she’s here and hope for the best if she is.” Misty

Lucas followed Selena inside the Den, content to let her handle checking them in. He didn’t work at the Den like she did, so it seemed best for her to handle this. “Sure seems like it,” he agreed. He looked downstairs, relaxing. The calm atmosphere was more comforting, and he didn’t feel as nervous now as he had been during his prior visits. “She mentioned having to get through a number of barriers in my mind during the search.” Elizabeth had spent more time doing that than restoring memories, which he was okay with. The memories didn’t matter as much to him now that he knew Selena was his sister and they were attempting to rebuild their relationship. They didn’t need his memories to do that. “We should. That’s what we came here to do, and I don’t want her to think too poorly of me.” featherleg

“That makes sense. The barriers I mean. You were...well, a rather stubborn person to put it nicely. An individual's behavior and personality can impact how their memories pertain once turned.” There were many more reasons as to why he would have been walled off, but going into now just seemed frivolous. “Right. Just try to keep your voice down. High pitches or loud noises in general will set her off if she hasn’t rested enough since the search.” With that, Selena approached the door of her bosses office and slowly opened it, peeking her head inside before gesturing for Lucas to enter with her. Upon entering the space, they were hit with a wave of what smelled like sandalwood and oak. There were a dozen candles lit throughout the room, and it became apparent as to why once they had gotten their bearings in order. Though there was no person or body in the room to link it to, the fragrance of blood was still lingering strongly in the air. Across from them, a pair of sharp lavender eyes stared directly at them. “So you two have returned? How fitting. I was going to call you, Selena. Check to see where it was you disappeared off to this time. Thank you for saving me the expense.” Selena’s eyes narrowed as she spoke up. “Pray forgive my absence, Ms. Volkov. I only wished to give you the space and time to recover from the search, as well as to give my brother the same in regards to the memories you restored to him. Thanks to your aid, I full heartedly believe the two of us can go on to rebuild our bonds and begin searching for our other siblings.” “That’s wonderful to hear, my dear assistant. However…,” her gaze switched from Selena to Lucas, “...I do wish to hear what your brother has to say to me. Hopefully it’s an improvement from the last time we spoke...for both your sakes.” Misty

Lucas nodded in response to Selena, remaining quiet as he entered Elizabeth’s office behind his sister. “Ms. Volkov, I’d like to apologize for my earlier behavior. I shouldn’t have gotten angry with you for doing what I asked you to. It wasn’t appropriate of me to take out my anger and frustration on you.” He remembered all too clearly what he had said when he last spoke with her in his room, how angry he had been after having those few memories restored. Elizabeth shouldn’t have taken the brunt of his anger. “I’m truly sorry for how I acted, and if there’s anything I can assist you with, I’d like to help.” featherleg

The room filled with silence after Lucas spoke. What little light there was in the room from the candles was able to illuminate Elizabeth as she stood up from where she was sitting. “No, it wasn’t. Yet, recognizing one's actions is the first step to forgiveness, wouldn’t you agree?” Her head tilted slightly as she kept her gaze locked onto him. “How generous of you to offer. Let’s see how we can put you to work then.” She crossed over to where a large bookshelf stood which was filled with books, binders, and files. Elizabeth grabbed one and started flipping it through it while walking back to her desk. “There’s been a kidnapping recently of one the head arcane families within the city. The Cyra family. We were fortunate enough to have Aika give us a warning in advance that the VDA will be investigating the matter, even going as far as to send her team into the Swan’s Fountain to rescue the family. Their mission is scheduled for next week. Seeing as though your sister is working undercover as a Sector agent and will be assisting agents...let’s see here...Black, North, and Pertherwryn, having you on the scene to possibly redirect attention away from them would benefit us all. Aika cannot leave her station once the mission begins, meaning if anything starts trailing her team that they aren’t equipped to handle...well, I would hate to see them fail. Do you think you would be up for the task? You would, of course, be able to train here until the day of to better your skills. Assist me with the success of this mission and I will call us even.” Misty

“I do agree.” Lucas’ gaze followed Elizabeth as she went to her bookshelf to retrieve something, and then went back to her desk. At the mention of the VDA, he sucked in a breath. He wasn’t a fan of them, to say the least, but if Selena was going to be undercover and assisting Aika’s team... Selena wouldn’t be able to use her magic, and Aika would be stuck at her post. Even if she could get away from her post, her help would be limited as well. “I’ll do it.” I hope I don’t regret it. The stakes were high, but if he could help and do something good, maybe it could be part of a fresh start for him. featherleg

"Wonderful. I'll have an updated file sent to Selena tomorrow for you two to review the layout of the structure as well as its current state. If you happen to come across any member of the Cyra family--all of which will be listed in the case file--you are to direct them towards Team Phoenix. How you do so is up to you." Elizabeth paused as she looked down at the document in her hands. "We cannot allow that family to be a part of the tragedy of that building. Even if it means assisting the VDA." She shook her head as she looked back up at the two. "Unless you have other business with me, I'd very much like to return to my slumber." Selena nodded quickly. "O-Of course, Ms. Volkov. We'll return tomorrow to begin our preparations." Bowing slightly, she grabbed Lucas's hand and pulled the two out of her office, making sure to close the door behind them. Dropping his hand, she let out a sigh as she frowned. "I...no, let's table what just happened in there for later. Let's just go get coffee." Misty

It seemed that Selena wasn’t happy with his decision to assist in the assignment from behind the scenes, but she was correct in that this wasn’t the time to discuss the decision. “Coffee sounds great right now.” Anything to delay the conversation Selena wanted to have about his decision. Lucas didn’t want to hear that she was disappointed in him or that he was making an uninformed, reckless decision. He knew it would be risky, but he could also do some good if the mission was successful. featherleg

Without much else to say, they headed out of the Den for the time being. Selena had taken her keys back as they walked to her car. It was probably for the best that she drove now that they were in the city anyways. As she drove them through traffic, she would occasionally glance over at him, a concerned look glazed over her face. “Listen, I’m really glad we’re doing this together but...we’re going to have to work a lot on your powers for this mission to succeed. Either that or create a restraint for you to wear to avoid them going haywire during it. I trust that you can handle yourself in a fight normally, but you’re going to be around frozen blood magic. If any of it gets agitated enough to be released, you need to get far away from it. And...I can’t help you once we start the mission. You’ll be on your own. So just don’t do anything I wouldn’t, alright?” This mission, without a doubt, posed a possible threat to all parties involved. To her, that threat was losing her brother after just finding him. “Or both.” His powers weren’t limited to firebending, and without a restraint, it was very possible another type of magic could throw a tantrum while he was on the mission. That happening in the presence of blood magic would be disastrous for everyone involved. Lucas dragged his fingers through his hair as he let out a sigh. “Look, Selena, I know that this is likely the most dangerous thing I’ve ever done, but if I can do something good and right and keep you safe, it’s worth the risk to me. I don’t plan on taking this lightly, either. So yes, I won’t do anything you wouldn’t do.” They were both going to make it out of the mission alive. featherleg

Derrick eyed the group before him. It was perhaps one too many questions needing to be addressed. On the other hand, did he overstep the situation? Unsure but refusing to drop the cold stone face of ponder, he awaited a possibility. It wasn't too long of a wait however, seeing as Aika took the floor. He nodded at her suggestions, noting other possibilities. Jeopardize is certainly a way to compromise... He noted at the thought. He agreed with her judgement on this user being a potential non-human, given that they revealed so much more on the first round. Despite not meeting the person it was enough to set off the two; which meant he had to play on their description of the situation in order to further delve into it. Everything was coming along-however the whole climbing the second floor, could also mean this guy was really into parkour or extreme sports. So pressing charges ain't possible? Dammit... well whatever.. He killed the thought before it could possibly evolve into something grander. On the other hand, Celestia chimed back in with the Embrian Court. He leaned back static in his seat both mixed at the thought of reaching out but at the same time divided. "Right.." He softly replied. Hearing her mention Rowlin as her advisor, seriously brought back some memories. It was truly the days of old-war, that ravaged in fear and death. While memories to remember, they truly were their darkest days. Those days-for the better part have come to past. The the mention of Solai brought a shift to the room. Derrick twitched his right shoulder donwards, as though a cold hand was forced on him. Though today- the Solai have been sorted- there still remained some sentiment amongst some of the oldest individuals, sometimes even patriots and devoted followers to this day. He wasn't sure on how to reply to the statement, while that was a possibility, he hadn't directly considered that outcome. Now trying to speak up at the thought, he forced some words out "I-I was not necessary-" "-No..." Rowlin cut off Derrick who was both relieved and now further on the edge of the topic. "This man is strange, but he isn't one of them..." His gaze locked onto Aika, his tone rather serious towards the accusation, had he been standing probably still as stone, as he had under the days of war, presenting the next overview on the war front. "But if it somehow comes to it, I agree we should get the court involved." Derrick coughed trying to rebound the conversation. "-Y-Yes... should it come down to it we will look into the Court for assistance." He slowly nodded, his gaze glimpsing between the three. But could it be a Solai? He wondered but decided not to settle on the thought. "Right, well if we want answers we might as well begin with the questions. I'll keep in mind the information you already presented, but also consider the new possibilities we just came up with as well." featherleg

At least that was one question solved. Obviously her feelings regarding him made sense, if they had known each other before. And while she had had plenty of time to get reacquainted with the man he was now, she had still be so private- again, for reasons obvious now. And she obviously cared. He just had to push away the unease he was feeling, about not knowing her, about her caring more for his past self. They would have to sort through that as it came.
When he finished gathering his thoughts and Aika had once again calmed herself, he returned again to the practical issues at hand instead of the increasingly complicated emotional aspects. "Is there anything else I should know?"

MistySelena’s eyes widened as they stopped in traffic at a red light. He certainly was right on this being the most dangerous thing he could possibly commit to, at least that she knew of. At the same time though, he wasn’t just doing this to clear his slate with Elizabeth. He was doing it for her. She had said it before to him, when he still didn’t know who she was, that her goal in the Den was to create opportunities for others to be better. To forge a path that would improve not only their own lives but those around them. She took a deep breath in as the light turned green, her foot pressing on the gas pedal to move them along. “I’m sorry Lucas. I didn’t take into consideration what this meant to you. You’ve put your trust in me since remembering me, it’s only fair that I do the same for you.”

RosestarHaving had the time to calm herself, Aika perked up momentarily at his question before settling back to resting her head on his shoulder as she thought it over. There was so much more that she wished she could tell him. About who she really was. The reasons why she was so cold. That her heart didn’t beat. The truth behind why he didn’t remember her. Why she was determined to help him, no matter the cost. She knew better though. There would be a time and place when all of that would be revealed properly, but for now, this was enough to start with. “Well...I mean, there’s a lot you don’t know about me. If...maybe...it would be alright with you, we could spend some time together, outside of work? I’d like to give you the chance to get to know me as, well, me.” There was a pause before she spoke again, this time in the bashful manner that she did previously. “It doesn’t have to be a date, to clarify. Not unless you’d like it to be.” While aware that she had confessed to him, Aika still wasn’t sure if he felt the same way towards her. It wouldn’t be fair to suddenly be in...well, to be dating her just because she liked him. She could put her feelings on hold if that meant them reconnecting and getting to know each other as friends first. (working on my reply to Dia's post between this response and Misty's o/ )

Auransky mintedstar/furAt Rowlin’s response to her bringing up the Solai, Aika shifted uncomfortably in her seat, seeing that she had once again stepped on her friend's toes. “My apologies for the assumption, Rowlin. Despite time passing us, they still remain a presence in my mind. I hope you can understand why.” She never truly could shake off the fear and pressure that the group had caused her in the past. While they had all since learned of the split of the group through Rowlin’s knowledge and expertise, the half that wished to see her, her brother, her people crushed lingered without the need of being directly in front of her. The scars on her body and mind were proof enough that the damage they had done to her life would never be truly forgotten, no matter how hard she tried. Seeing that they had all agreed on how to press forward, Celestia rolled the crystal in the palm of her hand, looking over it with an annoyed glaze. “Then let’s begin.” Flicking it into the air, she snapped her fingers once more, causing the room to be illuminated in a blue-ish silver light. Once the lighting in the room dimmed back to normal, a man sat in front of them in the chair, who was quickly bound by chains of the same color as the light before. “Welcome back, Tom. I hope you enjoyed your time away.” Celestia spoke from behind him, her voice cold as she looked at Rowlin and then Derrick, giving them the cue to start their investigation.

“It’s alright, really.” Selena hadn’t meant any harm. She just wanted to keep him safe so soon after getting him back. Lucas wanted the same thing. If that meant Selena kicked his ass in magic training every day so he would be prepared for the mission, he would gladly let her do it. If he needed to wear a restraint for his magic, he would. “And after the mission goes well, we can go to one of Dasco’s fancy-ass parties.” featherleg

For a second, Tom looked very shaken. But he hurriedly recovered his expression and proceeded to just look amused, even with the restraints. "Oh, it wasn't much," he said to Celestia with a bit of flippancy in his tone. "Could have used a chair. Can't say this one is very comfy, but it will do." He looked at where his chair was facing. And wasn't very impressed. "I might point out that me being treated like a war criminals just allows me to infer all sorts of things. It's like you expect me to know - or being doing more - than I actually am. All that's doing in the long run is telling me things I didn't know in the first place." He shrugged just a little. "But if that's what you want to do, I suppose no one will actually believe otherwise. I'm just along for the ride right about now." featherleg Auransky

Misty Selena couldn’t help but laugh at the notion of them going to one of Dasco’s parties as they parked outside of The Observatory. “Right. I can show you and your friends around while random strangers try to talk us up. It will be great!” The two exited the car and made their way up the stairs to the café. Similar to the Den, not many people were in the Observatory besides the employees and a few regulars from the looks of it. Selena requested that they be seated towards the back in one of the corner booths, which their waiter granted them without issue. It had been a slow day according to him, so they could sit wherever they wanted. The café itself was themed around space, the heavenly sky, the stars and planets, and the balance of night and day. There was a dome ceiling that illuminated the center of the café that allowed natural light to stream through. As they sat down, Selena commented on how during certain nights, there would be star parties in which patrons would be able to view different constellations and planets from the oculus. “It really is something else. They even change the menu to fit in with the themes or motifs of what will be on display.” After a few moments, the waiter stopped by with their menus, letting them know to take their time with their orders before departing back to the café bar. “The staff here is nice as well. It probably wouldn’t be much of a surprise to you, but a lot of the people that work here are actually magic borne. Most of them are students that attend Armathain, the first University in Embra made for the study and pursuit of magic. The café serves as a bridge of sorts for them, from what a few of the staff has told me.” It reminded her of how Dasco started working on ways to create a bridge between the vampiric and magic borne society to that of humans before she had left the Court. Creating new regulations to allow the three to attend parties together in a safe environment, establishing business connections with merchants and businesses that were run by normal people instead of just magical enterprises. While she was proud of his work, she now wondered if Hannah had a hand in it by any means.

Lucas had to laugh at how Selena phrased her statement. “Okay, but the girls might actually enjoy the party. They’ll have a reason to get new, fancy dresses and somewhere to wear them.” Most of them were quite sociable at large group gatherings, if he could believe the stories they told - and he did. The boys might not enjoy the party as much as the girls did, but they would go as long as their girls did. After they were seated in toward the bath of the café, Lucas took a moment to look around the space. It felt very cozy, and he liked the theme even before Selena started telling him about the parties and the ways the café modified the menu to fit its current display theme. What had him hesitant to frequent the café was the fact that the staff mostly consisted of magic borne students who attended the university in the city. If the VDA was aware of the connection and had their agents pop by the café, he wouldn’t feel quite safe at the café. He was wary of them given his past. “That sounds really nice for the students.” Lucas looked up from the menu, not yet sure of what he wanted to order. “They have their own community in the city.” It seemed to be the equivalent of the Courts for vampires, but with less dramatics and without loyalty to a Court member. featherleg

Rosestar Having had the time to calm herself, Aika perked up momentarily at his question before settling back to resting her head on his shoulder as she thought it over. (working on my reply to Dia's post between this response and Misty's o/ ) Dalton was in the middle of nodding in agreement, but then stilled when she began to blush and mentioned dates. Honestly, he had almost forgot that part of the conversation, with the revelation of being childhood friends and all. He believed her a little bit more now, though he still wasn't sure if he was her type. After all, perhaps some of the longing she had been feeling for him could have been mistaken for romantic feelings, but he wasn't planning on bringing that up. He wasn't about to tell anyone what they should or shouldn't be feeling.
"Well, if you think about it, dates are for getting to know someone," he smiled teasingly. "So yeah, it can be a date Aika."

Rowlin wasn't exactly butt-hurt, more-so divided on the concept of the Solai. Given the conflicted history, and essentially lying his way into the military, a part of him considered the Solai a disgrace-erased from history. At least that's what the peaceful healers wanted- to cease existing or to live in solitute. So to compare someone or anyone to the Solai was both an insult a blade and maybe disgust-probably all three for him... He turned his head elsewhere, wrapping himself in a tight hug. "I-It's fine... You never have to apologize to me..." He softly replied, his gaze softening. "I can and always will agree with you." He fell silent, taking in a deep breath. He was and probably would always be torn from the divide, to the lies, it was one big cluster of frustration. Derrick noticed the tension in the air, and this newcomer wasn't making things any better. He took in a light breath then smiled with a brief clap. "Let's bring the child into the room and figure this out." He somewhat positively encouraged the others. Then the individual-the newcomer Tom was released from the crystal, he clearly appeared shaken, but was quick to put on a cold front. Anyone would when they wanted to be tough-or the not let on any details. It indicated that this individual was strongly working to remain within the crowd, never out not even an inch. That's exactly what he was doing-playing the role to not further stick out then he may have already been. Hearing the individual speak now, Derrick almost nodded but mostly at the thought of a chair. Not having a chair was like well-not having a chair. It was the worst pain in the world. It was clearly a united front that everyone deserves a chair. Derrick couldn't help but lean slightly forward with small smile. "Perhaps it can appear like you are being treated like a war criminal, but let's also recall that when anyone messes with a women especially a mother a wife, an aunt or a grandmother, their maternal instincts kick in and they will make your entire life feel like a war. They may just be doing what they believe in best in the heat of the moment." He shook his head briefly with a light chuckle, "The last thing anyone should be doing is breaking in to second floor rooms... it's like asking for a life sentence. Now if you were trying to avoid the in-laws that's a death sentence." He paused briefly to rest his hands against his knees, "If you don't mind me asking, watcha doing sneaking into homes in the late evening? Last I checked that's a crime, and considered theft." He raised a bushy brow in curiosity but also more in bewilderment to this Tom Fella. He seemed at an age where he's either got $5 in his checkings account, or he's so deep in debt that he's resorting to any whispers to make it by. "Like, sneaking into second floor homes to follow someone-in this case the poor sap over there." He nudged his head towards Rowlin. "That just isn't an excuse to follow anyone. I get he's an interesting fella, but you can't go around following everyone with red hair. It's his hair, and he can't change it." Rowlin was blinking in silence his green gaze in confusion. H-He followed me because what, Derrick?mintedstar/fur featherleg

“I would hope they would! All jokes aside, the parties Dasco throws are worth attending.” Sure, they would have to deal with people congratulating them on reuniting despite not knowing who they were, but being able to spend a night dancing and enjoying each other's company was worth it. Selena nodded in agreement as she placed her menu down and grabbed a notepad that was tucked towards the end of the table to start writing down her order. “Gives them space to breathe, you know? Oh, take your time looking over the menu. I usually just order the same thing so don’t let me rush you with yours.” From the looks of it, she had ordered a matcha latte and blta along with a tray of shortbread cookies that were shaped like stars for them to share. “I would like to hear more about your friends though, if that’s alright with you.” He had made a rather large effort within the span of the last few days to do right by her. Registering with the courts, apologizing to Elizabeth and agreeing to work with both of them, spending time with her. She wanted to do the same for him. Learn about his world, his friends, his interests. If they were all going to the ball together, she figured learning a little bit about each of the people in his friend group would go a long way. RosestarAika blinked a few times at him, her eyes filled with surprise at first which then turned over to excitement as he agreed that they could go on a date in the future. She smiled back at him in turn as she nodded softly and tried her best to ignore the feeling of butterflies rising in her stomach. “R-Right. Okay, it’s a date then.” Having since regained her composure--well, for the most part anyways--, Aika still sat in his embrace, though her arms were now more relaxed around Dalton’s shoulder and neck. As they sat together on the bed, a few things dawned on her. First, the fact that neither of them had pulled away from the other since Dalton had held onto her shoulders. Well, technically they had at points, but they had never let go of each other entirely. Next was the fact that the memories he had been seeing probably wouldn’t stop for some time, and she might have to be on standby to help him in recalling them properly. The last thing of note wasn’t as important as the other two, but she couldn’t help but stifle a laugh as she looked him over briefly, deciding to think on the first two more at a later point. “So, question. Is there a reason you’re still in your day clothes? I’ve read about detectives sleeping in their work attire before. I didn’t realize the myth was true until now.” Her eyes flickered towards his undone tie and button up, which had become increasingly more wrinkled since he had entered the room.

Auransky mintedstar/furAs Derrick began speaking to Tom, Aika and Celestia glanced at each other as they both thought over his comment. In this circumstance, he wasn’t wrong. He and Celestia had been together since, well, what seemed like forever, and was well aware of how protective she was over her family when it came to matters that stemmed from her world. Having Tom suddenly enter the frame of the life that the two had built so cautiously did not help his case by any means. The two looked back at Tom as Derrick continued to question him, attempting to gauge his reactions as the conversation continued. While there was still visible tension in the room, Celestia seemed more collected in this scenario. Focusing on keeping Tom where he was certainly contributed to that, but having Derrick question him instead allowed her space to think and evaluate at a leveled and reasonable rate. Her and Aika waited patiently for Tom to answer, not thinking too much about Derrick's comment on Rowlin changing his hair color besides that it would likely be difficult to do so.

“If the girls get excited enough, the boys will come along. They might not be completely happy, but they’ll come.” If the girls wanted to do something together, the boys often joined in. They had their ways of being persuasive, but it didn’t require too much effort when doing things together often meant seeing friends. Lucas read over the descriptions of the different drinks the café offered. There were a couple that interested him, but he still couldn’t decide between them. Wait, no, he had made a decision about the drink he wanted to order. “What exactly do you want to know about them?” He could share many things about his friends, but he didn’t want to share details Selena wasn’t too interested in. “Hold on.” He took out his phone to find a group picture. After some digging, he was able to find one. The friend group consisted of six vampires, four males and two females, smiling widely for the selfie. It looked like a blonde girl had snapped the photo. “Here, this is all of us. There’s Kat and Flynn, and Jonah, Rhett, and Oceana.” He pointed out each friend as he named them. “And me, obviously.” featherleg
