(AHH the sneaky reply! Misty ) "First, just don't try to gain anyone's attention. I'll handle formalities and any questions that follow suit. Oh, and avoid touching anything. The Court has a lot of decorative items just out on display. You can thank Dasco's love for design and art for that." She recalled how years back, he sent her on trip to an auction in Rome to secure several vases that he had been wanting to add to his collection for quote, "Several decades." "Outside of that, I would say to treat this like you're at the DMV. Don't bother anyone, answer questions when asked, stuff like that." (I love the idea of Selena summarizing that going to the Court is equal to going to the DMV XD )

(I have my good afternoon all typed up, and when I go to post, there’s a reply. That’s v sneaky Feather xD That’s hilarious xD) “I can do that.” Stay quiet and not touch anything? Letting Selena handle formalities and questions might be difficult if he felt like he needed to respond himself, but not touching the decorations would be easy. Not showing any interest in the decorations would be more difficult but still manageable. “That’s quite the comparison.” He shook his head. “God, I hope this goes well.” featherleg

(Annnnnnnnnd we're back!) Dalton Black It was a moment where Dalton could be honest with himself, if only he allowed it. He was driving himself to the North house, this time without the heavy fog that had been surrounding his mind for the past few days. The drive was familiar- one of the roads he used to practice on as a new driver, back in high school. The streets around where James lived were quiet. The area Dalton was living in now was similar with their comfortable two-story houses and backyards with room to breathe. The house of his youth was towards the heart of the city, for his father's work purposes. He didn't know why his father would have chosen to live so close to work. After joining the VDA himself, Dalton found he liked the quiet. Now that his fever had broken and he had been under the care of his brother (and well-meaning friends), his mind was quieter as well. He could feel the headache he had been fighting for days buzzing in the background, serving more as a reminder for his unease than bringing any real pain. After worrying for days about whether he was losing his mind or not, it was nice to feel his hands sturdy on the steering wheel and bask in the soft melodies of the radio. He arrived first, unsurprisingly. Aika hadn't been to James' family home before. Maybe he should have offered her a ride, he frowned to himself, but decided there was no sense in worrying over it now. If anything, she would probably be relieved that Dalton had some time to relax. He had gotten a message from Naomi earlier saying she wasn't coming, had previous engagements. It would be just him, James, and Aika- and Lily and her other friend, of course. Honestly, he wasn't sure what to expect from this dinner. It was the first non-work related gathering he had had with either of them in recent memory. Dalton didn't think they had been working that hard, but it wasn't like they all had their own social paths to navigate. James, uptight and keeping the family home intact while his parents were away. Watching his lovingly troublesome little sister. Aika and her studying. Her music. Her solitude. He wondered if this would be her first non-work related gathering for a few weeks. Nah, he thought. Just because Aika spent most of her time these days nagging him didn't mean she didn't have other things to do. All the more reason for Dalton to continue to relax at dinner. He grabbed his keys and locked his car, heading on inside. It would be better, for him and his friends, if things were simple tonight. featherleg

"Excellent! Then it should be smooth sailing for both of us." She laughed softly at her perception of the Court. "Look, it's great to be there during galas and concerts and other events, but being there for actual business is just...annoying. Despite Dasco's sway over this location, they still have traditions that they want upheld." There was a moment of quiet before she whispered, "I hope so too." Misty -- After spending about forty five minutes deciding on an outfit and what type of tea and accompanying tea set to bring with her, Aika grabbed her motorcycle jacket and helmet, locked the door to her apartment, and started loading her motorcycle for the one hour trip to James's house. It felt odd, in a way, that after knowing him, Dalton, and Naomi, that this was the first time she would actually be entering his home. In fact, the more she thought about the matter, she hadn't visited any of their homes until this point. It wasn't as though she avoided hanging out with her team mates, but...there were certainly risks involved with this type of social behavior for her. There was the rules of entry into ones private home that she had to abide to, and the potential risk of someone just randomly getting injured. While these rules were valid, she couldn't help but feel an ache in her heart as she fashioned her helmet on her head. They must think I'm a recluse at this point. I've denied going out with them all so many times at this point, they might think I'll just cancel coming over tonight. At that thought, she quickly pulled her phone out of her jacket pocket and texted James. "Heading over now. Let me know if you need anything from the store." She paused before continuing the message. "Oh, and if you have a piano in your house, I will find it." Pressing send, she stored her phone safely in her jacket pocket, zipped it, and started the drive out of the city towards the outskirts. The sound of lo-fi beats played through her helmets inner speakers as she zipped through traffic at a cautious rate. She figured once she was off the main streets she could pick up the speed, but for now safety was her top priority. Thirty minutes later, she finally broke out of Embra proper. She smiled to herself as she took in the scenery. Drives like this had become so few and in-between for her. Being out in nature versus the hustle and bustle of city life was a welcome change, one that reminded her of her dear friends Celestia and Derrick, who also preferred to live in a similar neighborhood as James seemed to. As she continued the drive, she wondered if Dalton had already made it to the house. He and James have been friends since they were kids, it only makes sense that he would be there before me.Rosestar

James North "I'm going to hide the piano." "No, you're not gonna hide the piano." James didn't bother looking at his sister, just kept stirring. It paid in more than one aspect of his life to be a multitasker. "It doesn't even count as a real piano." It barely counted as an instrument. There was a beat up plastic keyboard from the days their parents picked out their hobbies for them, getting a little taste of everything to find out what they really liked. Lily was never that interested in it- James had kept it up for a few years in high school. He liked the way it focused his hands and mind. Cooking did the same thing for him, really. The focus and the dance of it, music notes or rolling boils of pots. Give him a task and his two hands, and he was happy. Naturally, he was quite a bit older now, and the piece of junk was collecting dust in Lily's 'tech' room- she kept saying she would use it's processor for something, and she would occasionally try a hand at creating EDM beats, but they both knew the keyboard was barely playable at this point. Honestly, it would be a little embarrassing if Aika was expecting something, well, nice. There was an old spinnet in the attic, a relic from his great-grandmother's time, but he doubted Lily was talking about that one. It was squirreled away where his mother kept the other treasured, somewhat useless family heirlooms. "It doesn't matter," Dalton added from his spot at the table. He had let himself in a few minutes ago, fishing the spare key out of the mailbox. He often berated the North's for not having a better security system, but despite how close Dalton was to the family, the Norths simply had a different life. The Blacks were a private family that witnessed many mysteries to some degree or another. The Norths were quiet. Normal. For the most part, James thought, eying his mischievous sister and her adventurous friend. "Can I at least start a timer to see how long it takes for her to find it?" Lily pleaded, passing over a few jars of spices- whether to convince him by helping or just out of habit, he wasn't sure. "I suppose I can't stop you from doing that. Go wait for her then, she should be here soon. I want to finish up the main course beforehand, so I can show her around." "You know you don't need to give her a guided tour," Dalton spoke again once the girls scurried out of the kitchen. James shrugged. Sure, it wasn't necessary, he thought, turning the now-seasoned vegetables over again. But it was polite, and he wanted to make sure Aika would be comfortable as she could be. It would have already been a tense dinner without the strange few weeks they've been having, he was sure. Naomi had already bowed out, but that didn't make things any easier. Aika and Dalton were just as likely to get into an argument over dinner. Dalton seemed... relatively like himself again. Most likely, that was the Zeus effect- the other possibility was that Dalton was getting better at lying. " Sweet ride!!" came Lily's cry from the parlor, and James could hear the door swinging open. Lily was probably just opening the door to wave at her, but he winced thinking about the two teenagers bursting out and swarming her. "Can you supervise them Dalt? Just until the noodles are done?" "Take your time, Dalton answered, and stood. Maybe whatever- strangeness- the two were experiencing right now could be over and done with before James had to see either of them.
Dalton Black Sure enough, he found Lily practically hanging out the door when Dalton arrived. He let her get some of her endless energy out, and then said, "Didn't someone want to start a timer?" " Right!" Lily gasped, and bolted upstairs to get her stopwatch. Dalton stood alone in the doorway now, waiting for Aika to come in. Lily's room had a window facing the front door, so hopefully Aika wouldn't notice when the teenager inevitably used it to judge the exact moment Aika entered the premises. He couldn't help but smiling, especially knowing that this was only the beginning of the chaos of the evening. featherleg

Pulling into the driveway of the North abode, Aika couldn't help but take a moment just to stare at it. Sure, it wasn't a palace or a castle, but it was warm and inviting. A feeling that had been missing from her life for a large portion of her life. Okay, we are not about to sulk about things such as that. We're here, that's what matters. She thought to herself as she parked her motorcycle next to Dalton's car and removed her helmet. Her gaze scanned the front of the house as she dismounted the bike, her eyes stopping and locking onto Dalton's. "Hey, would you mind helping me here?" She called out to him as she waved him over. Could she do two trips to get all her stuff into James' place? Sure. Was she going to? With Dalton just standing there, she thought not. "I'll throw in a reward if you doooo." Wait, a reward? Did she honestly just tease him with a concept such as that? T-This is not going to end well for me, is it?Rosestar

Dalton was already moving to help when she started waving him over, though he wasn't sure exactly what Aika could have brought. He was fairly certain James already had all the ingredients he needed. Maybe she brought dessert? Or like, a house-warming gift. Since she hadn't been there before and all. He was in the middle of guessing what else she could need, when he began to chuckle at her teasing. His movement changed to a saunter in the last few paces to Aika, and he smirked at her. If he had been nervous about her reaction to him up and moving again so quickly was gone, and instead he raised his eyebrows at her. "Good evening to you too. Don't say you brought something, just for me?" he smirked, glancing at the cargo she was handling. featherleg

(Did I completely space after seeing the reply? ...yes xD) “That’s the goal, anyway. It might be great during all those events, but I didn’t enjoy going the couple of times I did years ago.” That was the very reason Lucas avoided vampiric society. He didn’t enjoy participating in their traditions, especially when so many of them seemed outdated. Surely they could make Court more enjoyable for everyday business. “I’ll be on my best behavior. I promise.” featherleg

Rolling her eyes, she held her helmet out towards him to hold while shaking her head. "Unfortunately, I didn't." Seeing that he had a grip on the helmet, she opened the small cargo slot sitting at the back of her bike and took out a black case that seemed to just perfectly fit within its confines. "I brought one of my tea sets with me, as well as some fresh green tea with ginger at the request of James. He said his sister was a fan of the flavors. If I had a car I would have brought some orchids with me, but there's always next time." She explained as she slung the strap of the case over her shoulder and closed the cargo slot, locking it manually with her keys. Her gaze returned to him as she walked back over to his side to start heading into the house. "I'll give you until we enter the house to decide on your reward. Oh, and it has to be non-work related." (AHHH, another sneaky post!) "Really? I always liked the dances, especially the ones during winter time. You know Aika use to perform during those events? Her voice is beautiful and would carry so well with the orchestra and band, but her solos? Simply stunning. I wish she would attend again, but I understand her stance on the Court." She sighed to herself as the bridge they were on began approaching a tunnel that cut into a portion of the mountain to their left. "Here comes the first checkpoint." She muttered as the car was surrounded by darkness, the only light source being that of her headlights and of a lantern a ways away that was attached to a small outpost. Selena slowed the car as it lined up with the small building, rolling down her window while grabbing a wallet from her pocket. A man emerged from the outpost, glancing between the two siblings before looking towards Selena directly. "Morning. What would your business be at the Embrian Court today?" Selena took out a card from her wallet before handing it over to the guard. "I'm here to register my brother officially within the Courts records. Any pending business from Sir Val I'll attend to at a later date." Looking over the card, the guard nodded before handing it back to her. "Understood. Enjoy your visit then, Miss Grey." Taking the card back, she rolled the window back up before continuing through the tunnel at a slower speed. Misty

Dalton spent a moment grinning excitedly at the tea set. Of course, he should have guessed it would have been something like that. Lily was indeed a big fan of ginger, often joking that it came with the territory of her red hair. Green tea would pair nicely with the stir fry James was cooking up. He wondered how much Aika had known when picking her flavors. He was about to ask her about orchids (and maybe crow about how he was right about her bringing a plant as a gift) when he blinked at the sudden time limit. Honestly, he didn't think he would be getting a true reward. It wasn't like her helmet was particularly heavy. "Play me another song." he said without thinking, not even moving from where he had stopped to take her things yet. featherleg

That caught her by surprise. Enough so to make her stop in her tracks and gaze up at him, the emotion written clearly on her face as she felt a blush creeping up her cheeks. "Oh...umm, sure. I can do that." Did he like her playing that much? She had played multiple times on her piano while he was over, but it felt different to hear him requesting her to do so versus her just inquiring. "Just let me know what you want to have played and when." Her voice seemed softer and a tad more shy. It had been a long time since anyone openly asked her to play outside her apartment. That had to be the reason why she suddenly felt nervous...right? Rosestar

(Still fangirling about Miss Grey!!!) “I’m almost sorry I never attended while she performed.” Even though Aika’s performances were likely beautiful and not done justice by Selena’s descriptions of them, Court was still Court, and Lucas didn’t enjoy it. While they were stopped at the checkpoint, Lucas remained silent, allowing Selena to handle everything as he had promised. He raised an eyebrow at the name the guard used to address her. Only once Selena began driving again did he speak. “Miss Grey? I thought Dasco had given you his last name.” featherleg

Dalton grinned, and finally began marching towards the door. Aika, however, was now the one stopped in her tracks. Was she...blushing? Heh. She had been so confident about it when it came unprompted. Was it so surprising that he had enjoyed her playing? "Hey, you only gave me a second to decide, basically," he said with a small chuckle. When her face remained shy, Dalton took another step towards her, face softening. "I want to hear your favorite longer concert piece. If that's okay with you."

(hahaha I'm so glad Misty !) "H-He did, I just prefer to use my maiden name is all. I only really address myself as Miss Val when it's useful." Names had advantages depending on where and when used, but being able to keep her true last name meant much more than dawning the surname of a high ranking Court member. The tunnel they were in eventually gave way and opened up to the view of the Court itself: a large, five story building that sat on a lone island, standing tall above the waves that crashed beneath it. It was both intimidating and breathtaking. Whoever had designed it seemed to share similar stylistic choices as the person who built the Swan's Fountain, as it was a fusion of French Gothic and Rococo. The only way to enter or leave the building was via the bridge that stood before them. Misty------ Aika's browed furrow. "Y-You would have had longer than a second to decide! Maybe at least ten seconds." Oh, what was the use arguing about seconds when they were so minor to the actual topic at hand? She blinked at his response before looking off to the side, her right hand reaching up to her chin as she lightly tapped it with her pointer finger. Her favorite concert piece, huh? There's so many to choose from, it's going to be hard to narrow that down. Then, it clicked for her. Yes, surely that song would be wonderful to play. It wasn't a long piece per say, but it did go over three minutes. "Sure, Dalton. I hope James has a piano worthy of such a piece." Her smiled returned, seeming content with whatever decision she had just made. Rosestar

"Absolutely not," he laughed again, heading to the house. It was a comfortable two story house, and he pointed to a window off to the upper right. "Lily has an old keyboard, and that's about it. We'll have to make arrangements for another time," Out of habit, he winked at the end of the statement, and opened to door for her. "Come on in," he said, to clear the air. He really shouldn't be giving Aika as hard a time as he always did. At least she would be sure that he was defintely better. For how long, neither of them would want to consider.

Raising a brow, her gaze followed where he pointed with an arced brow. She was about to rebuttal as her gaze turned back to him, just in time to see him winking at her. While this type of behavior wasn't new, him making statements like that to her was. The blush that had died down on her cheeks rose back again, and this time a much darker shade. Seeing that the door was open and he had invited her in, she took a deep breath in, muttered a 'thank you', and proceeded to walk inside. Rosestar

(It’s such a nice little touch, and I love it <3) The family name. His - their - last name. Hearing that she preferred to use it brought a smile to his face. “Fair enough.” Lucas became quiet as they approached the Court itself, attempting to dismiss the nervousness that had started building when they entered the tunnel and spoke with the guard. “If I wasn’t starting to get so nervous about visiting the Court, I’d take more time to admire the view because damn.” featherleg

Seeing him smile made her as well. Even though they had only been around each other these past couple of days, she was glad they could share these small moments together. She started laughing again at his remarks, nodding along with the sentiment. "Right? There are gardens spread throughout which are well kept, but people seem to only visit them during the Summer and Winter." It was likely due to the location turning into a event hotspot during each respected season. I wonder if he would want to go to the Summer Gala, once things have calmed down. Well, if they calm down. Carefully, she navigated through the parking lot to a spot that had a reservation sign made out of stone. The placard read "Sorcerer Selena Grey Val" and had what appeared to be lavender flowers imprinted on the ends of it. Placing the car into park, Selena grabbed her leather purse from the backseat before turning to Lucas. "You ready?" Misty

"I'd rather an option Three," said Tom curtly, his eyes roughly moving away from the knife to pin Celestria with his attention. His tone of voice was even and he was attempting to be as civil as possible. "I don't have a why. It's as simple as that. No 'why' that I haven't already explained. Curiosity. That's all. No malicious intent. No weird goals. Just human curiosity." He wasn't human, but that was besides the point. "As for recognizing you ... you're threatening me in an attempt to intimidate answers out of me. But I've been giving you answers regardless. Your posturing isn't a sign of insecurity is it? You have to make threats to get information from someone already willing to give you answers." He sat back and shrugged. "However you feel like doing this. Whatever makes you feel more safe around a boring used cars salesman." He was still looking Celestria directly in the eyes and ignoring the knife. He just wasn't impressed. featherleg Auransky

Celestia scoffed at his remarks. "Your third option was to leave your curiosity outside of my home, which you have trespassed into." Her voice matched Toms but was more aggravated in comparison as she stared him down, her arms crossing over her chest. "You've given answers, sure, but if you think I'm just going to let you walk away with a half baked apology, then you're sorely mistaken. Clearly you aren't human, which makes you a threat to a degree. Oh, and trust me, my reasons for intimidation are sound." Straightening up, her eyes narrowed as she shifted the gem in her hand. "Since you've graced us with your permission, we'll be seeing you after dinner." Tossing the gem into the air, she snapped her fingers beneath it, making it pause and emit a bright, silver glow. A quick flash spread across the room. Upon it disappearing, Celestia held the gem in her hand, with Tom nowhere to be seen within the room. "C-Celestia, was that really necessary?" Aika asked as she flourished the blade in her hand away, making it too vanish. Her friend simply rolled her eyes. "Oh please, Aika. I have a loaded plate having to deal with you and Rowlin, and then this guy just waltzes in thinking he can--you know what? No. You should understand better than anyone such precautions." She turned away from her and headed towards the door. "Let's just go eat now. I'm starving." Aika sighed before following Celestia out of the room and towards the stairs leading to the first floor. mintedstar/fur Auransky

(Yes, drag him to the Summer Gala and we can have tension there xD) “They must be beautiful year-round.” The gardens might be worth visiting when there weren’t a lot of people around - but only if going to Court to visit the gardens didn’t make him as nervous as he was today. Sitting on a bench in the gardens with a good book... When was the last time he had done something like that? “About as ready as I can be given the circumstances.” In a perfect world, Lucas would have been able to avoid Court for the rest of his life, but the discovery of his fire bending meant he had to officially register as a Flamed Tongue. He had to at least do this before avoiding Court again. featherleg

"Trust me, they most certainly are." Memories of spending time at each of the sixteen gardens scattered throughout the manor of Embra's vampiric court lingered in her mind. If only they could walk into the Court itself with their main objective being a tour of all of them. Alas, they had actual business to attend. "Alright, let's get this over with then." Unlatching her seatbelt, Selena exited the car and waited for Lucas to follow suit. Once he was out she locked her car and started walking towards the grand doors leading into the Court. A simple exchange of glances with the guards on both sides caused them to bow to the two while the doors opened inward. As they entered the foye of the Court, it was apparent that the interior was just as lavish and elegant as the exterior. Marbled floors with plush rugs to accompany various seating areas, all with their own coffee tables and velvet couches. Grand chandeliers hung above them from a high vaulted ceiling, illuminating the room with a radiant glow. The main room they were in seemed to split in several directions: down the hall was a staircase that lead to the second and third floor, to their left were three hallways that seemed to lead to different locations, and the right mirrored the same design. To top it all off, bouquets of fresh spring flowers decorated the halls pillars and planters as the sound of soft piano music echoed throughout the building. (It’s gorgeous and makes Lucas feel so very out of place and I love that xD) Lucas unbuckled his seatbelt and got out of the car before walking around it to join Selena before they entered the building. “My god.” He had forgotten just how elegantly the various Courts were decorated, though the decor was always in style. And it was too much for him. The lavishness of the foyer contrasted too much with his relatively simple style, and it only added to his nervousness. He felt out of place. Court wasn’t part of his lifestyle, and he didn’t think it could be. “Do you think anyone here knows the meaning of subtle?” He mumbled to Selena. featherleg

(Hahahaha good to hear XD ) Selena giggled at her brothers question, knowing full well that the person behind the current decor of the Court was not subtle at all. "Honestly, no." She took in the sight of the foyer as they continued walking inside, a content look on her face spreading as she noted the new changes made throughout the halls. Tapping Lucas on his shoulder, she motioned for them to starting heading to their left. "Registration is over this way." While they made their way down the hall, several people--either visitors like them or employees of the Court itself--would bow their heads or wave politely at Selena as well as to Lucas. Misty

Lucas wasn’t surprised to hear Selena’s answer. Perhaps it had been wishful thinking to hope any of the Court’s vampires preferred a less extravagant decorating style. He headed to the left with his sister and returned acknowledgements with a small wave of his own. After all, he had promised to behave himself, even if he hadn’t expected to get this much attention due to Selena’s status. The attention didn’t calm him, but it also didn’t add too much to his nervousness because no one had tried to talk with them. “It sure seems like everyone here knows you.” While it didn’t come as a surprise, he hadn’t expected for that fact to be so obvious dyeing their visit. featherleg

Returning waves and acknowledgments to those who passed by them, Selena lightly shrugged at Lucas. "They're just being respectful is all. Not everyone here knows me. They know of me." She corrected in a calm tone as they entered a medium sized room that was filled with several offices with varied between being occupied and open. Selena stopped for a moment, pointing and counting the rooms before snapping her fingers in recognition. The two approached an office with a sign that had the name "Clive Abendroth" written on it. Through the window that was aligned next to the door, a man with light brown hair and reading glasses was seen sitting at a desk with a stack of papers and journals. Grabbing the door handle, Selena knocked twice and then proceeded to open the door. "Sorry to disturb you, Clive, but would you have a moment to spare?" She asked as Clive looked up at the two in surprise. "L-Lady Selena! I wasn't aware you were here!" He quickly got up and started tidying his desk. "Please come in. It would be my pleasure to assist you in any form of business that I can." "Thank you Clive." Turning to Lucas, she ushered him into the room and gestured for him to take a seat at one of the two armchairs that sat across from Clives desk. Closing the door, she followed suit and sat down next to him. "So, what can I do for you both today? Actually, forgive my rudeness, sir, I do not believe we have met." Clive stated as Selena spoke up, catching his attention. "Clive, you may remember that I was spending time away from the Court to see if I could find and reconnect with my siblings after Sir Val found a record of my family?" He nodded in response before she continued. "Well, this is my brother, Lucas. We're here today to get him properly registered with updated family information as well as his vampiric generation." "That--this is great news to hear, my lady! And a pleasure to finally meet you, Sir Lucas." He extended his hand across the desk to shake Lucas's hand. "I would be honored to aid you in those matters." Misty

Rosestar Right. He shouldn't mess with Aika like that. How many times had she scowled at him hearing fleeting glimpses of his love life? A love life that actually hadn't been very active for some time now. Lost in translation. With things picking up at work... well, his social life was always made to combat that. Now, he saw himself slipping down a path he watched many people treed. Obsessing over cases. Questioning his every move. Doubling down on his work as an agent and the rest of his life spiraling down a drain. Keep it together. That was normal. This was normal. A regular conversation prefacing a dinner with friends. He didn't have to question everything here, as long as he didn't look at Aika too hard. Partly from the visions, and partly from he wasn't quite sure how to navigate the new space after their last real conversation.

Walking into the home, the most immediate thing she noticed was the smell of stir-fry wafting through the air as well as what sounded like...giggling? No, more specifically, teenage laughter. The type that you either wanted to be in on or well away from. Luckily it appeared to be coming from a room that was not the living room or main entry way which allowed her to relax enough to set the tea set down and remove her motorcycle jacket, making sure to hang it on the coat rack by the front door. Removing the jacket revealed her actual outfit; high waisted dark blue denim jeans and sleeveless, cropped, black blouse that glistened in the light from the star and celestial design of the top, the back of it having a keyhole opening to reveal what appeared to be parts of a tattoo on her back.
