She pressed her sleepy head into the cloth, giving a soft smile as the musky scent of sweat returned a face to her mind. Nicole didn't bother to open her eyes. It was a Saturday morning, the Fight Club having happened last night, and she was fully content with lying in her bed in Celous' hoodie all day. Last night was one she was never going to forget. Celous took her for a ride in that big Chevy of his, the two of them slipping away from the hordes of students that wanted them to stick around for the Fight Club victory celebration, they ended up stopping by everyone's favorite greasy pizza place and picking up a box before Celous took her out to the back fields of his ranch where the stars shone by the billions above them. All they did was talk and eat pizza all night. Nicole ended up doing and saying things that completely went beyond her natural stoic and professional personality just to see that bright smile of his. She stuck her nose down further into the hoodie. When the night started to become early morning she had gotten cold and Celous gave her one of his hoodies to wear, before the both of them reluctantly agreed that they had to call it a night. Celous drove her home and Nicole didn't bother to change before passing out on her bed, a smile on her lips. She only had one problem and that was that her car was still out at Fight Club Field. The back of her mind was teasing her that she should call Celous and tell him to pick her up to take her to it, but the front of her mind was telling her that she was playing a little girl's fantasy, and pushing too much would cause it to blow up in her face. I'll figure out how to get my car back later. She thought as she curled tighter into the hoodie. It was about midday when she finally got up. Nicole dressed out of the clothes she wore last night and into her lazy day t-shirt and sweatpants; however Celous' hoodie found its way back on her. She let her bare feet carry her to the kitchen where a pot of coffee needed to be made, but she only made it halfway across the living room when she caught a surprising sight through the windows outside. Her car was in the driveway. Nicole's brow furrowed with confusion seeing it sitting there like it had been there all night. It wasn't there when I got back last night. She told herself, she would've noticed it. What did catch her eye; however, was the paper that was held under her wipers. The dean abandoned her thought of coffee and quickly went to investigate.
We think you forgot this. ~Cedar and Ashton
Nicole's face flushed red as she read the note, and she tried to hide her embarrassment by raising her hand to her mouth. She wasn't sure she wanted to know how they did it and knowing the two twins she had to look over her car to make sure they didn't cause any damage to it. What am I doing? Nicole asked herself as she reentered her home, she closed the front door and pressed her back against it, one hand raising to her head while the other still held the twins' note. I'm getting teased by a couple of college kids. She sighed as she looked back down at the note. Everything in her life was going just fine, she had her job, she had her house, she had her car and her cat, she was content. Then that night came when Celous stopped by her office at two o'clock in the morning because Ashton had a concussion and he noticed she was still there and upset about the ten year anniversary of Ronnie's death. Since then Celous had been coming around more often and then she drives right into a ditch and she spent Christmas with them. Then life seemed to go back to normal. She thought looking down at the note. She had focused back on her work, Celous went back to coaching, they didn't see each so much since Christmas, But then the twins... She sighed, pressing her the back of her head against the door. It was the twins that left those pictures and the note in her office that led to last night's events. Nicole's mind suddenly found a fear, what if she was getting into something she couldn't handle? What if something went wrong? What if she lost him the same way she lost Ronnie? I don't think I could handle it. She thought, closing her eyes. The time she spent with Celous, she couldn't remember any other time she had been happier, she didn't want to ruin things, she didn't want to lose him...she would have nothing left if she did. Nicole rubbed her fingers down the fabric of the hoodie as her eyes stared at the wall, What am I doing? She asked herself again, And what am I going to do?

Early Monday morning, Nicole was always the first one to arrive at the university. Having not done a single thing for her job over the weekend, she had quite the stack of things that needed to get done and she struggled to focus her distracted mind on them. When she reached her office she got herself settled and pulled out her organizer, taking one good look at the picture hidden in the back of it before setting herself on the task of getting things done. She had about two hours of that peaceful task completing before someone came knocking on her door. "Ms. North, may I have a moment of your time?" Nicole broke out of her thoughts at the voice and looked up to see Dr. Claral Liv standing in her doorway. Claral was one of her many professors at the university, she taught many of the reproduction classes for species of all different kinds and even a few of the Family Values classes, "Yes, Claral, what do you need?" she asked calmly. "This morning," Claral began slowly, stepping further into the room, "At my 7 am class, I overheard a group of students talking about Fight Club." "Isn't there a rule where you're not supposed to talk about it?" Nicole asked calmly. Claral smiled in amusement, "Perhaps, but I heard them saying that Coach Skye won the coaches' fight last Friday all because you allowed him to finally participate in it." Nicole didn't reply to her, she only patiently waited for the doctor to continue, keeping her face still of the knot that was tightening in her stomach. "I have to ask, Nicole, why did you let him fight? He could've been seriously hurt." Claral asked, though she had no concern at all on her face, she was looking to Nicole with anticipation of her answer. Nicole took a deep breath, "Claral, I have no idea what you're talking about." She said calmly, looking right at the doctor, "There is no such thing as a Fight Club." "Not officially." Claral muttered with a frown, she crossed her arms and studied the dean, "Don't think I haven't noticed how you've been acting lately." She stated firmly, "You've had a brighter look in your eyes than I have seen from you ever since I've known you, and something is clearly missing from your desk." She pointed down at the spot where Ronnie's picture use to sit. Nicole followed her finger to where the picture had been, "Ten years is a long time to grieve." She stated calmly, "I think I've given Ronnie enough." "So you are moving on." Claral's face widened with a bright smile, "And with Celous too," Claral let out a whistle, "He's quite the man and, goodness, those muscles can turn any girl's head." "Claral don't you have classes you have to get too?" Nicole asked calmly, not meeting the doctor's eyes. "You have to tell me, Nicole, have you made it official yet? You have to give me the details? How did it start? Have you kiss him yet? And what of his twins? What do they think about this? Ashton can't be too excited about it--" Claral's swift questions shot an anxiety through Nicole and in her defensiveness, she looked the doctor right in the eyes, "We're not dating." She stated with strict bluntness, "There's nothing to discuss. It isn't a big deal. You have classes you need to get to, I suggest you go, Claral." Dr. Liv was taken aback by Nicole's tone and solid face, but she slowly nodded, "Yes, ma'am." She said slowly, "I'll talk to you later, Nicole." The doctor turned around and suddenly stopped, Nicole followed her gaze to the doorway and a pit dropped into her stomach seeing Celous standing there, his knuckles were raised as if he were about to knock on the door, but the look on his face told her that he had heard every word. "Congratulations on your win last Friday, Coach Skye." Claral said to the old fighter as she stepped past him. Nicole couldn't see her face, but her tone betrayed out awkward she felt. As soon as the doctor left, Nicole stood up, "Celous--" "I see I caught you at a bad time, Ms. North." The old fighter cut her off, his voice seemed distant and he wouldn't look at her, "I have to go." "Celous wait!" Nicole called after him, but the fighter disappeared from her doorway. Horror at what had just occurred washed over her and she felt her mouth dry up. She could've ran after him, but she didn't know what she would say. It was the start of the school day, there would be so many people around. Nicole slowly lowered herself back to her chair, her mind growing numb as she feared the consequences of those words. She thought about Friday night, laying on the back of Celous' truck and staring up at the stars, she thought about Christmas and the warm welcome of the Skyes. Then she thought about her home, empty with it being just her and her cat. What did I do?

Her heart pounded faster as she drove her car down the long drive of Skye Ranch. Nicole gripped the steering wheel tight as a breath shakily entered her lungs. Celous' truck was the only one at the end of the drive, leading her to believe he was home alone. I need to talk to him. she told herself, as fear and doubt tried to turn her back around, I need to know what he's thinking. She parked behind the old fighter's Chevy and turned off the ignition. Her blue eyes flickering over to the front door of the house as another shaky breath rattled her rib cage, "Ok, Nicole." She told herself slowly, "You're gonna go up there, and you're going to tell him the truth." She bit her lip and glanced at the front door again, "Whatever that may be..." She forced herself not to think about it as she got out of the car. The more she thought about it, the more she felt the urge to drive away. So instead she just acted and she soon found herself standing at the front door, her finger ringing the doorbell. It took a few moments, but the door did open, and she faced with Celous. The fighter seemed to pause with surprise seeing her there and she noticed how he kept the door mostly shut, she couldn't see past him, "Celous, I need to speak with you." She said quickly, but she noticed how he seemed to glance back inside. "Now isn't a good time, Miss. North." Celous replied stiffly, he eyes flicked back to hers. "Celous, please--" "Celous, dear, who is it?" Nicole felt her voice get caught in her throat as the unexpected voice sounded from further inside the house. When Celous shifted to look back at the voice's owner, Nicole caught sight of a woman with long golden hair, she was wearing gray sweatpants and a tight night shirt and she was drying her hands on a towel. She was looking back at them with curiosity in her bright green eyes, "Dinner's about ready." she said to the fighter. Nicole took a physical step back seeing the woman, her eyes turning away from them as a numbness seemed to shock her mind, "You should go." Celous said to her. "Um...right..." Nicole nodded, she raised her hand to her forehead, closing her eyes in order to contain the hurt that stabbed through her, "I will see you at work, Coach Skye." She didn't look back at him or the woman inside as she lifted her head on her way back to her car. She couldn't let them see she was shaken, that she was hurt, her pride was all she had left. The dean swiftly started her car and began backing out of the long drive, not daring to look back, Just shut up and drive. she told herself as her eyes focused on the road. She didn't want to think about it, she didn't want to confront it, and she certainly didn't want her mind telling her "I told you so" Just shut up and drive.

Sleep was her enemy all through the night. Nicole ended up heading back to the university and busying herself with what work laid upon her desk; answering emails, scheduling inspection dates, searching for new faculty, and sacrificing what needed to be for the sake of budget cuts. She reviewed student complaints about her faculty and grade averages to determine if other measures needed to be suggested to her professors before going over the research results of her professors and the experiments and knowledge they sought for. Every bit of the University she went over and reviewed, she became prouder and prouder to be the Dean of the North Shadows. I should walk the halls more. she told herself, Get back into connect with the students. Maybe she'd finally take up Claral's offer for lunch? When there was nothing left for her to do until the morning, Nicole wandered barefoot through the University buildings and pathways. It was the latest hours of the night, an hour no student dared to see on a weekday such as this, but Nicole found herself not caring. She was desperately distracting her mind from what plagued her heart and ended up inspecting the grounds and buildings of the college. I should push the president for more repairs to be done. she told herself as she spotted a broken corner on one of the North Shadow's resident halls, These students deserve a college worth their money. And heaven knew she was going to give every effort into that. The wandering dean wasn't paying any attention to where she was going and she soon found herself at the Sports Complex, staring up at the complex's many structures in the football stadium, the gymnasium, the activities center, and the basketball stadium. Her head was screaming at her to turn back around, better to wander the Agriculture college of the university than the Sports Complex, but she went in anyway. It was almost like a scene from a horror movie or a haunted house with how dark the complex was. Nicole walked silently through the halls, almost wondering if she could catch sight of one of the ghosts the students loved to spin tales about. She reached the weight room and paused in the doorway at the dark quietness of it all. The shadows were relaxing. Nicole felt comforted in how she could hide within them, her soft steps not giving her away to any ear that might hear. Within the shadows she could bury her troubles, keep them from the rest of the world, so that none would know but her. Her mind drifted to the twins when she looked at the bench press, remembering the night she had come down here to find the two working out, and telling her that they just missed their father. Nicole quickly shook her head, banishing the thoughts from her mind before her heart could feel any pain. She pulled away from the doorway and moved on. Next things she found was the fighter's mat. Any normal person would call it a wrestling mat, but her students specifically called it the fighters mat as their coaches taught them multiple fighting styles upon it. Nicole let her bare feet feel the coolness of the mat as she walked out to it. She could smell the sweat of the students and fighters that came off of it after the many matches that were endured atop it. It's still in pretty good shape. she thought to herself as she inspected the stitching of its edges. Who knew how old the thing was. The dean's eyes drifted up and spotted a few punching bags on the opposite end of the room. She allowed herself a teasing smile as she started over to them. She didn't punch it right away, but instead allowed her palm to brush softly down it, feeling the firm padding underneath its slick exterior. It felt harder and heavier than she thought it would. Nicole lightly tapped her fist against it, barely pushing it. She pushed it again, this time to make it move, and slowly she started to hit it harder and harder. Each time her fist struck the bag she felt a rushing release of stress from her mind and a tremble within her shoulders. Nicole slipped herself into an untrained fighting stance and kept pounding against the bag. She thought of the words she spoke at work that she didn't intend for Celous to hear, she thought about the pit in her stomach that had remained throughout the day as she feared what those words might ensue, and then she thought about her moment at Skye Ranch. Seeing the stoic look upon his face and the golden-haired woman behind him. Nicole hit the bag harder and harder as she pictured that woman in her mind, no, she didn't know her, but she firmly didn't like her. Finally the dean dropped to her knees in front of that punching bag, her knuckles and wrists were throbbing and she had sweat and tears falling from her face. She pressed her forehead into the bag as she sobbed quietly to herself. She had everything she ever wanted when she was spending those times with Celous, and now it seemed like it was over. Nicole glanced her red eyes over to the coach's office, hanging proudly upon it was the old glove Celous and his students had won at Fight Club. She was glad she was able to give him that at least. To give him the chance to win it for his students and for himself. I need to clean myself up. Nicole thought as she looked down at her clothes. She was still wearing her work clothes from yesterday and she was sweatier than she had ever been. It was a good thing she kept a clean set of clothes in her office, she could grab them, shower in the ladies' locker room, and then get back to work.

"Miss North we have a serious problem!" Nicole jolted awake at her desk, she glanced down at the papers in front of her, quickly realizing that she had dozed off reading one of her professor's research before she looked up to the door of her office. Cedar and Ashton were welcoming themselves into her office, neither of them noticing she had fallen asleep as Cedar closed her office door and Ashton stormed right up to her desk. "Boys, what's wrong?" Nicole asked quickly, seeing the urgency on their faces. "Our aunt is moving to town." Ashton stated, pressing his hands against the opposite end of her desk. "In fact, she's already in town!" Cedar corrected stepping up swiftly beside his brother, he had a frantic look in his eyes, "Apparently she's been planning on moving to town for a while now, and Ashton and I only found out this morning!" "Dad picked her up at the airport over the weekend. She's staying at his place until she finds a place of her own!" Nicole had a hard time keeping up with the boys as they swiftly threw this information at her. The boys' aunt? Was that who that woman was at Celous' last night? There was a knot in her stomach that was flirting with the prospect of relief, that golden-haired woman was the twins' aunt? "It's nice of your father to help her." "Well...yeah." Cedar replied awkwardly, "But..." "But its her!" Ashton finished for his brother, "Miss. North, if it were any other family member, we wouldn't be in the problem we're in now!" "I don't understand..." Nicole squinted at them slowly, but the way the boys were looking gave a sense of weariness, "What's wrong with your aunt?" "She's our mother's sister." Cedar replied, looking right at the dean, "She is only dad's sister-in-law." "But she's been flirting with dad for the past five years!" Ashton added rather rudely, "She's got some issue in that stuck-up little head of her's that makes her think she has a right to our father!" "Normally we wouldn't be so worried about it." Cedar said quickly, "Dad always blew off or even scolded her for her flirting attempts, but when we saw him this morning..." He trailed off with a sigh as he glanced at his brother. "He was silent the entire time she spat those fat lips of her's at him!" Ashton threw his hands up in the air and even paced a few steps away, "He's never acted like that before! I'm worried he might actually be considering her this time!" "Which leads us to our problem." Cedar looked back to Nicole, weary curiosity in his eyes, "Did something between you and dad that we don't know about?" Nicole was left in a moment's stun as she listened to the hurried words of the twins. Her tired mind was struggling to fit all the pieces together, the golden haired woman at Celous' was the twins' aunt on their mother's side, but she was flirting with Celous? Nicole felt her throat tighten at that thought, but what worried her the most was that prospect that her words yesterday might have been the reason the twins were so worried about their father being silent at the calls of his sister-in-law, "I don't know what you two are talking about." Nicole found herself saying, "Your father--" "Belongs with you." Cedar cut her off sharply, "I apologize for my bluntness, Miss North, but we haven't seen our father so happy with anyone else besides you and frankly, we'd rather have you go out with our father than our aunt." "Could you imagine if she became our step-mom?" Ashton asked from the front of the room, "Ugh." he added with a disgusted shiver. Nicole felt a solemn blush rising to her cheeks as she looked down at her desk, "I don't know..." She said slowly, not looking at the boys, "I don't know what to do." "If Stella were here, she'd say to tell him the truth. Tell him how you feel." Cedar replied with a shrug, her response seemed to bring a relief from him. "Feelings?" Nicole huffed in amusement as she looked up at the older twin, "You expect your father, the fighter, to response to feelings? He'd rather have blood on his knuckles." "Yeah, Cedar, not everyone's the softy you are." Ashton snorted, he walked back over to her desk as he looked at his brother, "First things first, I think we need to get Aunt Aria out of dad's house. The less time she spends with him, the better." Cedar nodded in agreement, "Tarak said he and his brother were looking for a new place, maybe we could ask them if they found anything that could work for her?" "I'll ask Sota about it, we both know how forgetful Tarak is." Ashton nodded, "If anything we could always recruit the team to pull dad into more practices that he won't have time to spend with her. Football, wrestling, and fighting." "Yeah, but Aunt Aria's a fighter too and you know how much she loves football, she'll just try to come to those practices." Cedar frowned, "We should suggest a few jobs for here that are across town." Nicole looked back and forth between the twins as they discussed out their little scheme. She got the sense that they plotted like this quite often and she almost felt bad for Celous for having to deal with it for twenty years. One thing that did feel good was knowing that twins were on her side. "Miss North whatever happened between you and dad, I suggest you fix it ASAP." Cedar stated suddenly, looking at the dean, "I don't know how, but for all of our sakes, it needs to happen." Nicole looked back at him with flustered surprise, "Uh..." "Hey, Dr. Liv was joking the other day in class that sometimes the best way to a person's heart is through their children." Ashton snapped his fingers as he looked at his brothers, "What if dad saw us spending time with Miss. North? I think that might make him jealous." "Good idea!" Cedar exclaimed in response, he smiled at his twin, "We not-so-obviously lead him into figuring it out." "What do we do when he does figure it out?" Ashton raised an eyebrow, "What if we get in trouble because he does figure out what we've been trying to do?" "We get there when we get there." Cedar shrugged easily, he looked at Nicole, "Meet us at the football stadium at six." he said with a smile. "Cedar, I--" Nicole started to shake her head and voice her doubts when Ashton cut her off. "Shoot, Cedar we got to get to math! We'll see you at six, Miss. North!" He gave the dean a nod before he rushed out of the room. Cedar gave her one last bright grin before following his brother. Nicole remained at her desk, staring after the twins with stunned bewilderment on her face. Eventually she let out a sigh, "I guess I'll see you at six..." She muttered after them.

Nicole felt a nervousness in her stomach as she walked out onto the football field. She spotted Ashton and Cedar over by the home team benches, discussing some things. Cedar held a football in his hand and seemed to be explaining something to his brother that Ashton didn't look too thrilled with. They were both dressed in loose football Jerseys and sweats. "Ok, boys, what am I doing here?" Nicole asked bluntly as she walked up to them. She crossed her arms to try and tame the knot in her gut. "You came!" Cedar exclaimed with his bright smile. "You didn't change..." Ashton sighed as he looked her up and down. Nicole was still wearing her work clothes. The dean furrowed her brow at the boys, "Was I supposed too?" Cedar gave a sheepish nod, "Well...it's kinda hard to play football in heels, ma'am." Nicole paused, "I'm sorry what?" She said looking at Cedar. "We're gonna teach you how to play football." Ashton replied with a shrug, "Better than what you did at Christmas." Cedar frowned, "That they did at Christmas was illegal." Ashton only smiled at his twin, "But it helped." Cedar seemed to see his point and he nodded in agreement. "There should be some clothes you could change into in the locker room." Cedar stated turning to Nicole, "We'll wait for you." Nicole hesitated a moment as she looked from one twin to the other. Playing football made her nervous, even at Christmas. She didn't appreciate the thought of two heavy-weight college students chasing her around the football field, "Fine." She heard herself sigh, she turned from them and headed back toward the locker room. As she left she heard the twins exchange a high-five. Like the boys said, there were clothes more suitable for football within the locker room. Nicole found a pair of sweatpants that fit her and a t-shirt that was a little too big. "Can't you like, push it off until eight...maybe?" Nicole heard Cedar said as she came walking back to the field. The twins were facing each other, Cedar holding a phone between them. You want to have dinner at eight? Nicole felt her stomach twist hearing Celous' voice come from the phone, she glanced at the twins and when Ashton spotted her, he raised a finger to his mouth in warning for her to remain silent. Nicole only nodded. "Just give us time to finish up this practice." Cedar replied, "I'm sure you and Aunt Aria can hold off until then." Celous' sigh could be heard coming through the phone, She's making her meatloaf boys. A look of panic swapped between Cedar and Ashton, "Actually I think this practice might go longer than eight, dad." Ashton said quickly, looking at the phone. Oh no you don't. Celous' voice rang sharp, Your aunt is looking forward to seeing the two of you, so I suggest you finish up your practice and get your butts over here. You two are the reason she's moving back out here, you know. "Are you sure you're not the reason?" Cedar grumbled as he exchanged a doubtful look with his brother. What was that, Cedar? "Nothing, dad!" Cedar replied swiftly. What are you two practicing anyway? Celous asked. "Football." Ashton replied simply. At the beginning of February? Nicole could hear the doubt in his voice. "There's never a bad time to practice, dad, you said that!" Cedar stated, "We'll be around eight, wouldn't want you to deal with Aunt Aria by yourself." Another sigh came through the phone, Just get your hides over here. "Oh, wait dad! Before you hang up!" Cedar said quickly, "I talk to Miss North today--" A click could be heard from the phone, "Dad?" The twins looked down at the phone to see the call had been ended. Nicole looked down at the ground as the coach had hung up right after her name. The twins looked at each other, "That's a good sign right?" Cedar asked his brother. Ashton gave a shrugging nod, "I'd say so, you know dad, he can't talk about anything that's bothering him." Cedar nodded before he turned to Miss North, "So football." He stated with a smile, "We got two hours to teach you what we can. Don't worry." he added seeing the doubt on her face, "It'll be fun."

"Hey! She actually caught it!" Cedar teased with that bright smile of his. Nicole was panting rather hard as she held the football against her chest. Her chest was throbbing from the hit it took when she caught the ball, but she was feeling rather proud of herself. The two hours she spent with the twins were actually pretty enjoyable. They explained some of the rules of football before throwing her into a mock drill. After that mock drill, it became painfully clear that Nicole needed to work on her catching and throwing skills. They started with a simple game of catch until it turned into a three way two-hand touch football. Nicole really had no idea what was going on through the two hours as her mind was still exhausted from staying up all night, but she was enjoying the time spent with the twins. "I think you two have to get to dinner." Nicole smiled back at Cedar before tossing Ashton the football, "It's well past eight and I don't want your father getting mad at you two." "Eh." Ashton shrugged tucking the football under his arm, "We've done worse." Nicole shook her head, "I find that really easy to believe." She looked from one twin to the other, "Thank you." "No sweat, Miss North." Cedar smiled back at her, "We'll make a football champion out of you yet." Nicole smiled in amusement and rubbed her knuckles and wrists, she had to admit all day they had been bothering her, her knuckles even had a light bruise on them, and she knew it was from hitting the punching bag last night, "I will see you boys tomorrow?" Cedar nodded and opened his mouth to say something, but Ashton cut him off by grabbing Nicole's wrists, "What's this?" he asked frowning at her knuckles. "My hand." Nicole said slowly, slightly startled by the younger twin's sudden action. Ashton had a frown on his face and he twisted Nicole's knuckles so that Cedar could get a look at them, "Know what this is?" he asked his brother. "Someone didn't wrap their knuckles." Cedar replied, his eyebrows raised in surprise seeing the bruise and he looked at Miss North, "Did you go out and beat something up, Miss North?" Nicole tried to pull her wrist free from Ashton's grasp, but the young fighter had a firm hold, "No." She stated bluntly, she yanked again and when Ashton realized she wanted her arm back, he let go, "I hit a punching bag..." She added slowly, rubbing her wrists again. The twins exchanged a glance, "Well I think I know what we're doing tomorrow night." Ashton stated crossing his arms. Nicole frowned at them, "Tomorrow night?" Cedar nodded, "Yeah, meet us at Fighter's Mat tomorrow." he glanced at his brother, "Five o'clock?" Ashton nodded, "That way dinner at dad's isn't too late." Cedar let out a rough sigh, "I'm really not looking forward to that meatloaf..." he groaned, but he gave Nicole another smile, "Yeah, we'll meet you at Fighter's Mat at five tomorrow. It should be cleared out by then. Dad doesn't have practices on Wednesdays." "And I assume come dressed ready to fight?" Nicole asked with a tired sigh. Both twins nodded, each holding their own smirk, "You got it." they told her. Ashton held out his hand to her, "Good work tonight, Miss North. Honestly you didn't better than I expected." "Thanks..." Nicole replied flatly, taking his hand, "I think?" Cedar smiled brightly, "We'll see you tomorrow!" He and his brother turned to head away. Nicole couldn't help but watch them go, realizing a bit more why Celous loved those boys so much, "So dinner." She heard Cedar say as they went. Ashton gave a chuckle, "Oh this is going to be fun."

Nicole took a deep breath as she looked at herself in the mirror, placing her hands on her hips after just putting her black hair up in a high ponytail, her white bangs handing down to the sides of her face. After meeting with the twins last night, she went home and searched her closet for the old workout clothes she hadn't ever worn. She tucked them away in an extra bag to take to work so she could change into them right away. She felt a little proud of herself as she currently wore them--thinking that she didn't look half-bad in them: a black sports bra covered by a black tank top and working tights, her feet she kept bare. Even at lunch earlier that day she looked up what female fighters typically wore when they fought or even worked out, and though she didn't have the time to go out and get her own, she found a pair of padded gloves for her hands. She stayed in front of the mirror for a little while longer, trying to brave up the courage to leave the locker room and face Cedar and Ashton out on Fighter's Mat. It was nearing five and like the twins had said, there weren't many people around, but Nicole had still spotted a few people and she was more than self-conscious of them seeing their dean dressed the way she was and going over self-defense with Coach Skye's sons. Nicole glanced up at the clock, five minutes til. I shouldn't keep them waiting. she sighed, she didn't mind spending this time with the twins, she just didn't want anyone else to be there. With a deep breath, she turned for the door, grabbing her water bottle on the way out. She paused in her tracks at one of the doorways to the room of Fighter's Mat. The twins weren't there, and a knot twisted in her gut as she saw who was. "Ah, Celous, this place is amazing! I can't believe you work here!" The golden hair woman Nicole had seen at Celous' house the other night was twirling on Fighter's Mat, her bright green eyes looking up and around the room as she did, "Head coach of football?! Coach of the fighting teams!" She paused and looked over at the old fighter, Celous was locking his office door, the old glove still hanging upon it, "I have to admit, I'm a bit jealous." She smiled. Nicole felt her fist clench at the look in the woman's eyes. "It certainly is something." Celous replied to the woman, neither of them noticing Nicole at the doorway, "You really didn't have to come by, Aria, I--" "Celous, its been so long, I wanted to see where you worked!" The woman smiled as she crossed from the mat and over to the old fighter, "And as much as I love your ranch, I can't be cooped up all day!" Her eyes suddenly got bright and she gave him a light punch to the shoulder, "Hey, how about you and I have a go on the mat? We'll see if you still got those championship winning moves." She gave him a teasing smile and mocked a fighting stance. "The mat's for training the students." Celous replied calmly, he stepped past her, hoisting his gym bag over his shoulder, "Not for your amusement." Nicole gave a soft smirk when Celous turned the golden-haired woman down. The fighter started crossing the gym to one of the opposite doors, but the other woman didn't follow him. She crossed her arms and jutted out her hip, raising one of her finely plucked eyebrows at the old fighter, "Chicken." she stated bluntly. Celous stopped in his tracks, Nicole could see the hardened pride in his eyes as he turned back to face the golden-haired woman, "That's not wise, Aria." he warned her lowly. A thin, sly smile slid onto the woman's face, her green eyes shot him a flirty look as she took slow steps toward him, "Oh come on, Celous." She said with sweet softness, "Let's wrestle." The woman's reply shot an anger through the dean of the North Shadows. The knot in her gut seemed to snap and Nicole looked around the gym as Celous only quietly matched the woman's eyes. The twins weren't here and Nicole had no idea what she could do to intervene. Her eyes caught sight of one of the punching bags hanging over at the side of the room and she felt the strong urge to hit it. Her blue eyes glanced over at Celous and the woman, the woman was patiently waiting as Celous contemplated his reply. Nicole raised her hands to tighten her ponytail and she started into the room and over to one of the punching bags. No noise came from Celous and the woman and she didn't dare turn her head to look over at them. When Nicole reached the punching bag, her eyes caught sight of Cedar and Ashton hiding around a different doorway, their eyes were directed toward their father and their aunt before they seemed to exchange a look between each other. Nicole only wished that their scheming minds would come up with something to help her out. "Is there something you need, Miss North?" Nicole turned around to find Celous was standing a few feet away from her, his gym bag still slung over his shoulder. The other woman was standing a few feet behind him, her eyes frowning at Nicole and her arms were crossed. "I'm just here to blow off some steam, Coach Skye." Nicole answered calmly, she let her eyes look the other woman up and down before looking to Celous, "But I thank you for your offer." Celous caught her look and glanced back at the golden-haired woman, he took a deep breath, "Miss North, this is Aria Darkh, Ashton and Cedar's aunt." He looked back at her, "She's moving into town." "It's nice to meet you, Ms. Darkh." Nicole nodded to the woman, she reached out her hand in greeting. "You must be the famous Nicole North." Aria replied, she gave a soft smile as she walked up and shook Nicole's hand, "I must say the twins surely think highly of you with how much they talk about you, but I'm sure you've heard quite a bit about me too. I am their favorite aunt." "I'm afraid the boys have never mentioned you." Nicole replied in fake sympathy, "But I'm sure they do have some strong thoughts toward you." Her words brought a frown to Aria Darkh's fine face, "Oh." She replied bluntly, "Well, they are busy with their studies, I guess." She moved her hand to Celous' arm as she looked with fake kindness to Nicole, "Celous and I were just about to head out, he was going to take me to my favorite restaurant out here. Its been so long since I've been back here, I want to see every inch of town, the university, and the surrounding areas." She smiled at Celous, "And Celous has agreed to show me all of it. The pang she felt in her heart when Aria seemed to lay her claim on Celous tore through her. Nicole couldn't get herself to meet the fighter's eyes, and her mind reviewed her odds. This woman, Aria Darkh, had toned muscles underneath the jeans and v-neck she wore. She had long beautiful golden hair and eyes as green as the forest. Not to mention, she was a fighter, just like Celous, she loved football, just like Celous, and she had a confidence in herself that allowed her to stand in a new place she knew nothing about, "That's very kind of you, Coach Skye." She said slowly, she took a deep breath and masked her insecurity behind her professionalism, looking the coach in the eye, "Your family surely is lucky to have you." There was a sneering look in Aria's eyes at Nicole's response, "Come on, Celous, let's go." She tugged on his arm. Celous glanced at his sons' aunt, but his eyes turned back to Miss North; however, Nicole turned her back to them and faced the punching bag, she didn't want him to see how hurt she was. When their footsteps started walking away, Nicole closed her eyes, trying to fight the tears as she knew the twins were still watching. She knocked her knuckles against the punching bag, Why couldn't I say anything? She asked herself. She let Aria intimidate her, look down on her, and worse, take Celous away. I am a dean of this college, I should be just as confident as her. She was confident as a dean of the college, but when it came to relationships, she had nothing. My last relationship was with Ronnie. She told herself, That was over ten years ago, I don't even know what I'm doing. Nicole let out a sigh and stared at the punching bag, frustrated and hurt with herself. She knocked her padded knuckles against it a few times before finally just hitting the stupid thing. She didn't care about her form, she didn't care if she was doing it wrong, she only cared about taking her anxiety out on something, and she couldn't do anything to herself. Every hit she drove her frustration deeper and deeper into the bag even at the cost of the pain in her wrists and knuckles, she could feel a couple tears slip from her eyes as her breath huffed out of her throat. All she focused on was hitting the bag, she banished Celous and Aria from her thoughts and let herself forget that the twins were in the other doorway. All she did was focus on the punching bag and she was started to realize why the Skyes liked doing this so much. "Keep your wrists straight." Nicole jumped at the voice that sounded right behind her, she whipped around and started with surprise seeing Celous, again, standing a few feet behind her. He was wrapping his knuckles with tape as he looked back at her, his gym bag left on the other side of the gym, "You want to keep your wrists straight." He repeated as he nodded to the bag, "Keep your wrists straight and sturdy and it won't come back on you later down the road." He stepped up beside her and faced the bag, "And when you punch you want to start with a jab with your left. Keep your feet apart, loose, but secure. You're right handed so your left foot will be forward. Jab with your left, cross with your right, and then hook with your left." He demonstrated against the punching bag, his powerful hits echoing through the gym. Nicole watched him with surprise, but when he stepped up against the bag, she caught sight of Cedar and Ashton in the doorway. The twins were giving each other what looked like a special handshake between the two of them and each twin was beaming a bright smile as if they had just won a football game or a wrestling match. Cedar looked back at her with that bright smile and gave her a nod, but was quickly nudged by his brother. Ashton motioned toward their aunt across the gym. Aria Darkh had a cross look on her fine face and was swiftly making her way over to Celous and Nicole. The twins suddenly rushed out to her, Nicole couldn't hear what they said to her when they reached her, but she could guess that the boys were swiftly throwing their words at her like they had done to the dean in her office yesterday. Aria didn't get a chance to say anything as the twins started dragging her off. Nicole couldn't help but smile as she looked back at Celous, watching the movement of his muscles as he demonstrated a few strikes on the punching bag. She listened to everything his voice explained to her. She studied his strong stance, watched his sure movements, and tried to copy them the best she could. Celous didn't seem to notice that Aria was dragged off by his boys, he seemed solely focused on teaching her how to better her hits. Nicole still sensed a distance from him, but she was more than glad he was beside her.

Nicole and Celous spent two hours working on her fighting form, it was the same basic three punches over and over again, but Nicole never excepted there to be so much to remember when using them. Power came from the hips, her feet had to be stepping in time with her hands, her chin had to be ducked, her fists up and firm to protect her face. Time and time again through those two hours it seemed that Celous was constantly reminding her of something she was forgetting. She started to worry that he was getting impatient with her, but the man was as stoic as ever. After two hours had gone by, Celous admitted that he needed to get going for Aria's sake. Nicole thanked him for his time and quietly watched him go. Now, Nicole was making friends with the snooze button as her sore body complained about having to get up for work. As the alarm went off once again, Nicole let out a groan and smacked it with her palm. She hadn't gotten a good night's sleep since the weekend with all the craziness of the week with the Skyes. "Ow." Nicole grunted out as she finally sat up in her bed, her eyelids begging to go back to the pillow. She raised her arm and stretched it, she couldn't believe just giving hits to the punching bag made her this sore. The dean pulled herself out of her bed, the back of her mind tempting to play it sick today, but her dutiful personality shut it up. She was just finishing her shower when the phone rang. "This is Nicole." The dean answered, holding the phone at her shoulder as she attempted to fix her hair for the morning. "Miss North! Have you made it to the university yet?" The voice on the other end replied. "No, I haven't, who is this?" Nicole asked calmly. "Oh! My apologies, my name is Garra Orso, I'm the new Wildlife and Environmental professor at the university." the voice replied, "I'm hoping to have a word with you this morning, there's a couple of things I'd like to discuss." "You want a meeting?" Nicole asked, moving around her room to prepare for work, her eyes caught sight of her makeshift gym bag and she contemplated bringing it. She never met with the twins on what they wanted to do next. "Yes, ma'am, when is a good time for you?" Professor Orso asked. "Meet me at my office this morning, I can spare a few minutes before my meeting with the fire inspector." Nicole replied, "If we're unable to cover everything you want to discuss, then we can finish the rest over lunch. I'm afraid that's the only time I have available today." "That's perfect, Miss North, I'll meet you at the University!" The new professor replied, he sounded rather eager. Nicole gave him a polite response before hanging up.
"Nicole, are you ready for lunch?" "Actually Claral, I'm going to have to reschedule." Nicole replied to the doctor as she was trying to pull her things together. Dr. Liv was standing just inside the doorway to her office with her hands on her hips, she didn't seem to upset at Nicole's words. "Any particular reason why?" Claral asked slowly. "I'm meeting with the new environmental professor." Nicole replied, throwing her organizer in her bag, "He's got some things we didn't get to finish discussing this morning, honestly I'm really interested in hearing what else he has to say, I think he'll really turn the wildlife management department on an upswing." A frown slapped upon Claral's face and her shoulders seemed to fall at Nicole's reply, "The environmental professor?" she said flatly, "Nicole, what about Celous?" "What about him, Claral?" Nicole asked calmly, her eyes flicking up toward the doctor in warning. Last time she spoke with Dr. Liv on the subject of the coach, she said some things she regretted. Claral raised her eyebrow at Nicole, her eyes still frowning at her, "I haven't met the new professor yet." She changed the subject, but her tone reminded Nicole of her disappointment in her, "What's he like?" "He's not what I expected, but he clearly has a passion for teaching the students." Nicole replied calmly, "I think you would like him Claral." "You're busy." Nicole looked to her doorway and Claral turned around to see Cedar peeking around the door frame to her office, "Yes, Cedar, a dean typically is." She replied, she let out a sigh and placed her hand on her hip, "I'm about to walk out for lunch, what do you need?" "I thought you always ate in your office for lunch?" Cedar asked with a furrow in his brow. "I have a meeting." Nicole replied simply, "What do you need?" "A meeting with who?" "Apparently the new wildlife professor." Claral replied to the twin, "I thought she was going to eat lunch with me, honestly." She looked back at Nicole, "But apparently there's been a recent change in plans." "Who's the new wildlife professor?" Cedar frowned. "He is." Nicole pointed out the door where Garra was just walking up, the man was rather tall and had a clean shaven face with fine bone structure. When Nicole pointed at him, he raised his light brown eyebrow and glanced his blue eyes glanced between Dr. Liv and Cedar. "Is this a bad time?" The professor asked carefully. "Professor Orso, I'd like to introduce you to Dr. Claral Liv, she's one of our reproduction instructors, and Cedar Skye, a student here." Nicole said calmly as she motioned between the two, "Claral, Cedar, this is Professor Garra Orso." "It's nice to meet you." Garra said kindly as he shook Claral's hand, he turned to Cedar and his blue eyes sparked with interest, "Skye? As in Coach Celous Skye? Are you one of his boys?" Cedar replied with a firm and proud nod, "Yes, sir!" "Haha!" The professor chuckled, he pointed at Cedar, "You know, I'm hoping to meet your father! I gotta say, what he's able to get you boys through on the football field is like pulling a miracle out thin air! Like that game again Sunfall--" Cedar's face grew into that bright grin of his, "When we were down by two touchdowns, but we managed to pull off a victory in the last two minutes?" "Yes!" Garra replied, his eyes growing wide, "It was almost as if you guys knew what play they were going to do with that interception! I swear I've never seen a turnaround like that before!" "That's dad for ya." Cedar replied, holding his smile, "He's always thinking five steps ahead in football!" "Professor Orso are you ready to go?" Nicole asked rather bluntly before the two could continue talking football. Both Cedar and the professor turned to her, the professor appeared as if he forgot she was standing there. "Of course, Miss North!" he exclaimed suddenly, he turned to Cedar, "It was nice to meet you, and pass on my greetings to your father for me, will you?" Nicole grabbed her back and started to push her way out of her office, Professor Orso quickly stepping out of her way. "Miss North!" "Make it quick Cedar." Nicole replied with a deep breath as she turned to the twin, "I do have a lot scheduled for today." Cedar seemed to fumble a frown as he looked past her and at Professor Orso and even Dr. Liv, "I was just hoping..." he began slowly, Nicole guess his mind was swiftly thinking of what he wanted to say, "that maybe you could spare some time later and help me with a paper I need to write--I know there's tutoring," He added quickly, looking her in the eye, "But I think you would be able to explain the subject a lot better. I also heard how much you help out the English department." Nicole paused at the twin's request, actually surprised that he was asking for help, but more so suspicious that this was an excuse for something else, "What's the paper about?" "Uh, its a literacy narrative essay." Cedar replied sheepishly, his board shoulders giving a shrug, "We're supposed to write about an important event in our life. Kinda like in a story format." "I know what a literacy narrative essay is, Cedar." Nicole smiled softly, "I'll meet you back here at seven." "That's perfect, Miss North, thank you so much!" Cedar smiled brightly, "I won't keep you any longer!" He nodded goodbyes to Dr. Liv and Professor Orso, before giving Nicole one last smile and heading back down the hall. "That's awfully kind of you, Miss North." Professor Orso commented with a small smile, "Do you help students like that often?" Nicole gave the professor a kind smile, "Let's get going, professor." She said calmly, but she caught a knowing and teasing look from Claral, before leaving her office to head off to lunch.

"I actually do have a paper I need help with, you know." Cedar stated as he entered Nicole's office, but he paused seeing the stance his dean was in, a smile widening on his face, "I need a picture of this." He stated pulling his phone out. "Cedar don't you dare!" Nicole snapped quickly. She had her bare feet propped up on her desk and she was leaned back in her chair reading over a few research proposals. With it being so late in the day, and most everyone gone home, she figured she's unwind a bit as she waited for Cedar to show up. Nicole moved her feet back to the floor, trying to change her position faster than Cedar could click the camera, "Do you want help with your paper or not?" "Ah, it's just a bit of fun Miss North." Cedar smiled as he tucked his phone away in his pocket, he slipped his backpack onto one of the other chairs in her office, before taking a seat in the other. He started to pull his laptop out of his backpack, "I'll admit, I've been struggling with his paper for a while. I know the story I want to tell, I'm just not sure how to get it on the page." "That always seems to be the problem." Nicole smiled softly, "Let me see what you got and I'll try my best to help you make it as good as it can be, but keep in mind: I'm not writing it for you." Cedar nodded, "That's all I ask, Miss North." he smiled and pulled open the computer, "I have it right here." He did something on his computer before passing it to her. Nicole set the laptop in front of her on the desk and Cedar leaned back in the chair as he waited for her to read it over. She had to admit, his writing could use some work, and it was clear he didn't know much about punctuation and grammar, but she was most intrigued by his story, "You said you're supposed to write about an important event in your life?" She asked slowly, glancing at the twin. Cedar didn't look at her and he didn't say anything, he only nodded, the look in his eyes betraying the second thoughts that came quickly to his mind about reading his paper. The story was of when Cedar and Ashton were five years old. They were apparently staying the night at their grandparents--on their mother's side--while Celous was at another one of his fights. Cedar tried to explain in detail that he and his brother were supposed to be in bed when their father finally got back, but being in bed wasn't the same as being asleep. The two of them ended up overhearing an argument between Celous and their grandparents. Celous had lost the fight and had returned without any prize money, and it was that night the twins learned for the first time how broke their father actually was. In his paper, Cedar summarized the dialog that had happened in the argument, and Nicole covered her mouth when she read that the twins' grandparents threatened to take them away from Celous by going to court which Celous couldn't afford. Cedar wrote in his paper that he learned a lot about his father that night and ended up looking up to him even more after those events. Celous fought for them that night against the wise anger of their grandparents. He "woke" his boys up to take them out of that house, but their grandparents then threatened to call the cops. Cedar described in good detail what his grandparents and father looked like that night. His grandparents being dressed in night clothes with fury painted on their faces and Celous had bandages and blood on him from his loss that night. The twins' five-year-old selves asked what was going on when they were taken out of their rooms and Nicole was surprised to read that Celous told them the truth of it all. How he lost, how he had no money, and how their grandparents thought it would be best if they remained with them instead of him. Celous told them everything so that their young minds could understand the best they could at the protests of their grandparents. He explained that if the boys remained with their grandparents, they would have the certainty of food, clothing, and roof over their head, where Celous wasn't sure he'd be able to provide all that for them. Cedar wrote that he couldn't speak for his brother, but he admired the honesty of his father, that Celous didn't spin them any false truths or sugar coat anything. Cedar added in a sentence Nicole had heard Celous say quite often to his students, "When you take a hit, it's gonna hurt, but you can't let it hold you back." That night Celous told his boys how much he cared about them, he didn't want to lose them, but he didn't want risk their well-being with his empty pockets and uncertain future. Cedar and Ashton agreed that night that they wanted to stay with their father no matter what, they were a team, like Celous had always told them. Even when their grandparents tried to argue with them the twins--at five years of age--shouted back that they wanted to stay with their father. Celous took them from their grandparents house and since then the three of them have been a tighter team in constant, caring, vigilance of each other. Nicole glanced back at Cedar after finishing the paper, the twin wouldn't look at her as it was plain on his face that he wasn't sure he should've let her read that, "Your grammar reminds me of a middle school student." She stated lightly, trying to break the evident ice, "But I guess that's to be expected from a fighter." "Is it really that bad?" Cedar asked squinting his eyes back at her, she could see the embarrassment behind his movements. "It's nothing we can't work with." Nicole smiled back at him, "Move your chair over here." "What'd you think of the story?" Cedar asked gingerly as he got up to move his chair. Nicole paused a moment, turning her eyes to the words on the page, "It's not surprising." She admitted honestly, looking back at Cedar, "I always knew you, your brother, and your father were really close and Celous told me he did struggle as a single dad. Reading over your paper," Nicole sighed, not looking away, "I am once again jealous of you Skyes." Her response cracked a smile onto Cedar's face, he plopped down in his chair right next to her, "So how can we make this better?"
For an hour the two worked on the paper, Nicole went over it line for line with him after he told her he still wasn't sure on the title. Going through the paper, she hoped maybe something would come to mind for him. They went over the development of the story, Nicole offered suggestions on what didn't sound right and what she would reword and Cedar was more than willing to try a sentence again before they moved onto the football player's struggle with grammar. Nicole had to admit she was impressed with the twin's writing style, his word choices were impressive, and she commented on it more than once. All Cedar really needed to do was to develop his grammar skills and he could very well be one of the best writers in his class. "Oh, sorry." Cedar apologized as his phone went off, "It's dad." "Answer it." Nicole nodded, "We should probably take a break anyway." Cedar gave her a glance before taking the call, "Hey dad." he paused, Nicole couldn't hear Celous' end of the conversation, "I'm working on a paper." The fighter said glancing at the laptop before them, "I'm fine, I'm on campus." he said quickly, Nicole saw a defensive pride rise in his eyes, "No, I'm not at tutoring! I don't need tutoring! I'm on campus working on my paper! I told Ashton where I was going!" A frown slapped onto Cedar's face at whatever Celous was saying to him, "Well I told him, it's not my fault he didn't remember." Nicole shook her head in amusement, she could only guess what the old fighter was saying to his son. Suddenly Cedar flinched, "Oh sure, now he remembers." he grumbled mostly to himself. He glanced at Miss North and slowly set his phone on the desk. "Is everything ok, Cedar?" Nicole asked curiously as she glanced between him in the phone. Cedar sighed staring at his phone, "I told Ashton I was meeting with you tonight about the paper. Apparently he's with dad and Aunt Aria now. Dad called because Ashton said he didn't know where I was and, you know, parents worry." He shook his head, "I could hear Ashton in the background exclaim 'Oh wait, I remember now, he's with Miss North!'" He sighed again and looked at his dean, "It was never my intention for him to found out I'm here. I didn't want him to know I was coming here. I figured we just have him walk in on one of our little football practices." Nicole smiled softly at the twin's predicament, "He didn't just hang up did he?" She asked slowly. "No the line's still open." Cedar shook his head and motioned toward his phone, "I just find it best, whenever he takes that scolding deep breath, to just put the phone down." Nicole couldn't help but shake her head in amusement as her thoughts wondered once again to how Celous dealt with these boys for twenty years. She glanced at the twin before reaching for the phone. When Cedar saw what she was doing, he waved his hands in signalling for her to go ahead. "Cedar, pick up the phone!" Celous' sharp voice rang through the device as Nicole put it against her ear. "Hello Coach Skye." Nicole smiled, leaning her elbows against her desk. "Miss North," The old fighter's voice instantly changed, becoming distant and defensive, "I'm sorry for the disruption tonight, I keep telling Cedar to go to tutoring." "It's no trouble at all, coach." Nicole replied calmly, "I've been meaning to spend more time with the university's students and I'm happy to help Cedar with his writing. Honestly, if we work on his grammar more, he could have some real talent here." There was silence from the other end of the line, "I always knew there was more to you Skyes than just fighting and football." She added calmly. The silence continued and Nicole let it go, Say something. she thought silently, she could picture his face, he was probably staring down at the ground with that stoic expression and even rubbing his free hand against the back of his head, Come on, Celous, say something. Finally a sigh came from the other end of the line, "Thank you for helping him Miss North." "It's my pleasure, coach." Nicole replied not too quickly, but she continued speaking before he could hang up, "Have you read his paper?" She asked with a glance at Cedar, "It's a pretty good story." "No I haven't read it." Celous replied, "He hasn't shown it to me yet, and frankly, I think I'm a bit too busy with Aria moving to town to read it." Nicole frowned, did he have to bring her up? "Well," She tried to keep her tone even, but it was rather difficult with the thought of Aria on her mind, "when you take a hit..." A huff of actual amusement broke from the old fighter's mouth and carried through the line, Nicole could picture the smile she probably brought to his face, "it's gonna hurt." "But you can't let it hold you back." Nicole finished with a smile, Cedar chuckled silently beside her, his bright grin back on his face. Silently Nicole prayed that Celous read deeper in the words he always said. She may have hit him hard with the words she didn't mean to say, but she prayed that Celous wouldn't let them hold him back. "Would you mind giving the phone back to my son?" Celous asked, his voice didn't seem so distant. "As long as you promise not to scold him for asking me for help." Nicole replied, glancing at Cedar again, "I'm more than happy to help him, Celous. Ashton too if he needs it." The other end was silent for long moments and Nicole waited patiently, "Thank you, Nicole." Celous finally said, Nicole smiled when he used her first name, "And I promise," he added quickly, "Let me talk to my son?" "Goodbye Celous." Nicole smiled before she turned the phone back over to Cedar. "Hey dad...." Cedar said guiltily as he put the phone back to his ear. He rubbed the back of his head with his other hand, "So...we're almost done here." Nicole watched the boy as he listened to his father on the other end of the line, whatever Celous was saying to him was changing Cedar's guilty posture to a more open one, the twin even had a smile spreading on his face, "Thanks dad." he said suddenly, "You mind telling Ashton I'd like to see him on the mat tomorrow morning?" he asked with a raised eyebrow. His smile grew wider after a moment and he even chuckled, "Thanks dad, I'll see you tomorrow." Cedar gave a curt nod, "Bye dad." Nicole felt that inward pang at her heart again as she watched and listened to the twin talk with his father on the phone. Because she had lost Ronnie all those years ago, she didn't have the chance to have children of her own. One of the reasons she started teaching was so that she could at least call students her own, but seeing the relationship between Cedar, Ashton, and Celous reminded her of what she was never able to obtain, "Are you ready to finish?" She asked softly when Cedar hung up the phone. "Yeah, just one second." Cedar replied, he leaned forward to his paper, "I finally figured out what to title it." He told her with a smile. Nicole tilted her head to see what he was typing on the screen and she couldn't help but smile herself seeing what he chose:
When you take a hit.

"Miss North we have a problem!" Nicole let out a sigh as Ashton came hurrying into her office, "Don't tell me you have another aunt moving to town." she breathed out as she looked up at the younger twin. She was up to her eyeballs in emails and research proposals that were all dumped onto her that morning, she should've known she couldn't go through a day without another interruption. "Not that kind of problem." Ashton replied, she didn't thing his gaze could get anymore serious as he pressed his palms against her desk, looking her right in the eye, "The glove is gone." Nicole stilled as a chill swept through her veins, "The glove?" she repeated slowly, "The glove?" "The Fight Club glove." Ashton confirmed softly so only she could hear, his eyes never faltered in their intense urgency, "It's gone! Cedar's rallying the team. We don't know where it is!" Nicole left her work at her desk and allowed Ashton to lead her down to Celous' office. When she reached it, many of the students within the wrestling and fighting teams were crowded around their coach's office, listening in and discussion what might have actually happened to the prized Fight Club glove. The nail where it always hung upon Celous' door was empty. "I swear, Sam, if one of your boys stole the glove, your school will be disqualified from the fights next year!" Celous' sharp angered voice echoed from the coach's office when Nicole reached it. She stood in the doorway, the students behind her, her eyes glancing to the empty nail as Celous slammed the phone back on the jack. "You think one of the other schools might have stolen it?" Nicole asked him calmly. Celous rubbed his head in his hands when he saw her, she could see his anger in his tense muscles, "That's the only thing that comes to mind." he replied to her as he paced toward her. Nicole stepped out of the way to allow him to exit the office, "None of my boys would do anything to it." "Tarak and Sota were the last ones hear last night." Cedar reported when his father stepped out of the office. "It was there when we left sir." Sota nodded in confirmation. "None of us would do anything to it, coach, we worked to hard to get that glove!" another student called out. "I know." Celous replied, he looked over his students and crossed his arms, "I want all of you to keep a good lookout for it. Those of you who have friends at the other Universities, start asking questions." When the students nodded Celous let out a rough sigh, "Get back to your classes. We'll find out what happened to it." "Celous, if there's anything i can do..." Nicole began, looking at the old fighter when the students started off again. Celous shook his head, "I would rather not have the other deans get involved if one of the other schools did take the glove." He replied with a long sigh, "Sam should get back to me about it and I'm going to call the other coaches as well." "Perhaps I should be there?" Nicole raised her eyebrow at him, "These things have a tendency to get you fired up, Celous. I wouldn't want anything to escalate with you fighters and your pride." He frowned at her, "Fine." He replied hardly. "I know one of the boys from Sunfall, I'll ask him if he's seen the glove." Ashton pipped up, he and Cedar were still standing by, listening in. Celous nodded, "Do that." he told his son. "Celous!" "Oh, as if we didn't have enough problems." Cedar grumbled hardly. Nicole followed his gaze across the gym to see Aria Darkh coming toward them, she had a bright smile on her shining face and a bag in her hand. Nicole felt a twist in her stomach noticing the flattering clothes the woman was wearing: a tight, v-neck shirt shining with rime-stones, faded and torn jeans that clung to her toned legs, and high-heeled boots that extended up her legs. "Aria, now isn't a good time." Celous sighed when the woman came walking up. "Oh, Celous, with you it's never a good time." Aria smiled, she didn't give Nicole a second glance as she greeted the twins, "I do have something for you, Celous." She said looking back at the old fighter, "And I think you're going to like it." "And what might that be, Aria?" Celous asked, he kept his arms crossed and his tone still lingered his anger about losing the glove. The woman kept a thin smile on her face as she pulled out what she was hiding in her bag. To Nicole it didn't seem like much, Aria had a pair of white boxing gloves with a red pattern on them, but Cedar's and Ashton's eyes grew wide, "Wait, are those--!" Ashton cut off when Aria nodded. "I did a lot of research last night looking for these." The woman smiled, she gave Nicole a side-glance, "These are the best gloves money can buy, they're supposed to be able to last for up to ten years! And only the current champions of today wear them in their fights." "That's because they're so expensive!" Ashton let out as he stared at the gloves, "I've always wanted a pair like those!" Nicole crossed her arms, her hand fiddling with the necklace around her neck, and she found herself exchanging a worried look with Cedar before looking back at Celous. The old fighter had a look of stunted surprise at the gift Aria presented to him, "Aria, I think you've gone a little far." he said slowly. "Nonsense, Celous!" The woman smiled at him, "I owe you for taking such good care of me while I'm in progress of moving out here and no act is too big in my eyes." She held the gloves out to him, "Take them, I think they'll look much better on your door than that old glove you had." Nicole's heart pounded in her chest as she watched Celous reach out for the gloves, but all of them paused when Aria mentioned the Fight Club glove, "What about the glove?" Celous asked, Nicole noted how sharp his eyes began. "That disgusting old glove you had hanging on your door." Aria nodded with a shake of her head, "Seriously, Celous, I understand holding onto things from your glory days, but that glove was gross. I tossed it last night before I got you these." She held up the expense new gloves again. All three fighters looked like they had been slapped and Nicole stared at Aria in shock of her boldness, "You did what?!" Ashton blurted out as he looked wildly at his aunt. "Aria that wasn't dad's glove!" Cedar practically shouted at her, his hand motioning toward Celous' office, "You don't just go messing with other people's things!" Aria was taken aback by their reactions and even took a step back, "It was gross!" Aria repeated, squinting her eyes in confusion between the twins, "Something like that could've been carrying a virus! And not to mention is was hideous to look at! Something like that deserves the trash!" Nicole remained quiet at the little spat, just listening and watching. Her eyes studied Celous' reaction. The old fighter looked like Aria had just kicked him where it hurt. He left the new pair of gloves in Aria's grip and raised his hands to his head, Nicole could tell he was trying to tame his anger, but at Aria's last sentence, his sharp green eyes locked onto his sons' aunt, "Trash?" he repeated hardly, "Aria, it took us years to finally get that glove!" The old fighter took a step toward the woman and he would've gone on, but Nicole got in his way. The dean took a step forward to place herself between Celous and Aria, she stretched out her hand to Celous' chest to keep him back while her eyes fell on Aria Darkh, "Miss Darkh might I have a word with you in the hall?" she asked calmly. Aria's bewildered eyes looked between all of the Skyes before finally landing on Nicole, Nicole heard Celous let out another angered breath as he backed away from her, "I guess." Aria finally let out. Nicole didn't say anymore as she led Aria out of the gym, but behind them she could hear Celous' angered pacing and the twins' jump into discussion with each other. "What is the big deal?!" Aria asked her bluntly when they were out in the hall, "I try to do something nice, but they're biting my head off!" Nicole crossed her arms and held her head high, this was what she was good at: calmly defending her own when angers grew high. "It's clear you don't understand what you just did, Aria." she said calmly, "That glove you threw away is a glove that marks which fighting team is the best out of all the schools in the region. This is the first time that glove has been at Moonrise University since before I arrived at the school." Aria let out a huff and shook her head, "Why use such a old and raggedy glove?" She asked, placing her hands on her hips as she looked at Nicole. "It wasn't my first choice either," Nicole admitted, "but that glove belonged to the first fighting coach of the region and it has been passed on from school to school ever since." Aria looked away from her, "Celous didn't say anything about it." "No one talks about it." Nicole replied, "I understand what you did was a mistake. You obviously didn't know its significance and you were trying to do a good thing for Coach Skye, but what you've done now reflects poorly on my school. The other universities have already been accused of stealing the glove and now it falls upon Coach Skye to have to apologize for those accusations. Not to mention how bad it is that Moonrise University has finally got our hands on that glove only to be the ones who lose it." Aria took another deep breath, "I'm sorry, Miss North." She said staring at the ground in front of her. "Don't apologize to me." Nicole replied, "You need to apologize to Celous, Cedar, Ashton, and the rest of the fighting teams that have given their blood, sweat, and tears so that Moonrise U could get that glove. Better yet, you need to apologize to all the schools' fighting teams for losing their trophy glove." A frown found its way on Aria's face as she turned her eyes back to the dean, Nicole got the sense that she didn't like how she was being scolded, "Alright." Aria said slowly, "I'll go talk to them." Nicole only nodded as Aria pushed past her and headed back into the gym.

Nicole waited a few minutes before following Aria back into the gym. The door to Celous' office was closed and she could see Ashton and Cedar leaned against it as they listened in on the conversation that happened on the other side. When Nicole made it halfway across the gym she caught both twins wincing before exchanging a glance and backing away from the door. Cedar spotted her and the two crossed over to her, "You might not want to go over there." Cedar said cautiously when he reached her. "Dad and Aunt Aria are arguing in his office." Ashton clarified. "Yeah..." Cedar rubbed the back of his head, "I almost wish we didn't hear some of the things they were saying, but we have to get to class." he gave Nicole his sheepish smile, "Again, I wouldn't go in there if I were you." Without another word he and his brother headed off. Nicole watched them go for a moment before looking back toward Celous' office, the twins' words making her more curious than cautious. "I'm trying to apologize, Celous!" Aria's voice sounded through the door when Nicole reached it. She couldn't help but pause to listen in. "I don't want your apology, Aria, and I don't want your gloves. You need to leave!" Celous snapped, Nicole could picture how he was pacing, "I have to clean up your mess--again!" "You're not kicking me out, Celous! I'm not leaving until you listen to me for once!" Aria rebounded, "I messed up and I get that! I'm trying to make up for it, but maybe if you weren't so closed off all the time, we wouldn't be in this mess!" "You don't get it! That's not something anyone freely talks about!" Celous' voice snapped sharply, "The glove was from something that was only between the universities' fight teams, no one else!" Aria huffed, "Your pretty little dean seemed to know about it." "Don't bring her into this!" Celous growled at her, "You had no right to mess with my things, let alone throw that glove away!" "I have a right to look after my brother-in-law!" Aria snapped. "Technically I'm not your brother-in-law." Celous' voice sounded cold through the thick of the wood, "I never married Fleta so we have no connection, Aria. You think I need you, but I don't!" His voice grew sharper, "I only need my sons, no one else!" Nicole tightened her arms against her chest as she listened to the argument, leaning against the wall beside the coach's office, she had to admit his words hurt, and she was starting to think that maybe she should've heeded the twins' warning. "You know what, Celous? You want to push everyone away, then fine! Enjoy your lonely life!" A sound of annoyance came from Celous and Nicole could picture him rolling his eyes and turning away from the twins' aunt, "My life use to be so simple and easy. I have my sons, my students, and my ranch, life has been better than anything in the past, but then..." he trailed off with another growl, "I'm starting to think you women are more trouble than you're worth!" "Excuse me?" Aria let out hardly as Nicole took a shot to the heart, "You want to clarify that?!" "You need to leave, Aria." Celous growled lowly. "No!" The twins' aunt snapped back, "I'm not going anywhere until you explain yourself!" "Fine, I'll leave." Celous bit back at her, Nicole took a step back from the door as she heard Celous' footsteps coming toward it. Despite Aria's protests, the door opened and Celous came out of it, his face hardened with angered annoyance and his jacket in his hand. When he stepped out he caught sight of Nicole and for a long moment the two just shared a look. Nicole didn't say anything as she held her arms against her chest, a quivering rattling in her rib cage from the words she overheard him say. In Celous' eyes she spotted a conflict, his angered face stilled a bit with surprise in seeing her there, and Nicole held hope that he was going to say something, but instead he let out another long sigh and his eyes hardened up again. He didn't look back at her as he left the gym. "You stubborn fighters and your pride!" Aria shouted after the coach when she reached the doorway, "Maybe you're the one who isn't worth it!" she placed her hands on her hips and let out a huff of annoyance as she watched Celous leave the gym. It wasn't until the old fighter was gone when she finally spotted Nicole, "Heard that, did ya?" She sighed. "I'm afraid so..." Nicole replied quietly, but she couldn't look at the other woman, "I didn't think it would be best if I intervened." "Probably not." Aria agreed, she crossed her arms and leaned against the door frame to Celous' office, "I swear that man is more stubborn than a mule." she shook her head and looked off in the direction Celous had gone, "For the past few years I've been trying to show him that he can do things for himself every now and then, the twins are grown and independent! He needs to let himself live a little." She looked back at Nicole and sighed, "But after that, I think I'm done trying." she admitted, "That man is too much work." Nicole couldn't help but look curiously at her, "What do you mean?" Aria chuckled lightly, "He's all yours, hun." she shook her head and looked off in the direction Celous had left, "But I wish you luck. I think I'll have better chances with those cuties at the airport." She smiled back at Nicole, "You wouldn't happen to know any of them and could introduce me, huh?" The dean blinked with surprise at the woman's words and she felt a blush rising in her cheeks, "Uh...no I don't know anyone at the airport." she said slowly, "But I know someone who does." she added. She couldn't help but stare at Aria Darkh, this woman's sudden change intrigued her. Maybe she isn't so bad, when your not pining for the same guy as her? she asked herself. "Really?" Aria smiled, "You know I use to be pilot back in the day. I flew planes all the time and only did fights as a side hobby. Ashton told me that the airport here is looking for new pilots, do you think your contact could get me in?" Nicole nodded, "I'm sure he can, Cliff has a lot of old friends at the airport, I'll give him a call for you, Miss Darkh." "Call me Aria." The woman smiled, holding her hand out to her, "It is nice to meet you, Nicole North, I understand why the twins like you so much. You seem to really look out for this school and its students." Nicole shook Aria hand, holding a small smile of her own, "This school is all i have." She replied, "Have you been able to find a place in town yet?" "Oh yeah." Aria nodded, "The twins are really looking after me. Apparently they had a couple friends that are moving too and they passed off some of places they found to me. There a nice little cottage near the airport that I've had my eye on. I just gotta figure out how to get Celous to help me move into it after this mess." she added with a sigh. "I'm sure the coach will help you, he always looks after his family." Nicole nodded, "and if he doesn't, give me a call, and I'll come over and help." Aria smiled back at her, "I appreciate that Miss North." "Please," Nicole returned the smile, "Call me Nicole." Aria nodded, "Nicole then." She suddenly held up the gloves she had intended to give to Celous, "Here, I think these will you do better good than anyone else." Nicole shook her head, "Aria I can't take those." "Of course you can!" Aria smiled at her, she grabbed Nicole's hand and placed the gloves in them, "I hope they bring you better luck than me." Nicole let out a sigh and she nodded seeing the sincerity in Aria's eyes, "Thank you."

Nicole went back to work after all the drama in the gym. She led Aria to Professor Cliff Hertz so that the two could talk about the airport position before she headed back to her office. She didn't see if wise to go after Celous with his fired temper. He just needs some space. she told herself when she sat back down at her desk, dropping the gloves Aria gave her in her bag. Her eyes glanced over to the organizer Celous got her a Christmas, her thoughts drifting to the picture hidden in the back of it, Just a little time and space. she sighed. Getting through the rest of the day was more difficult than Nicole would've liked, she kept thinking about the looks on the fighting students' faces when they discovered their trophy glove had disappeared and the anger on Celous' face when he realized it had been thrown out with the trash. "It took us years to finally get that glove!" Celous' words rang in her head as she stared at an email she probably read five different times. She kept thinking about Fight Club and how excited the students were when Celous secured the glove for the school after beating the other coaches. He had been dying to punch Sam Bracken for years. she thought as she remembered the fight, thanks to her restricting him to fight, Celous had taken the blunt end of other coach's mocking for years, but always remained obedient. Even when the other coaches mocked him. she sighed, she could see the importance of that glove to Celous and the students, they had finally overcome the teasing of the other schools and Celous was able to prove that he was a former fighting champion. Nicole sighed and closed out her email, she glanced down at her makeshift gym bag where a set of more comfortable clothes resided. "I'm starting to think you women are more trouble than your worth!" The old fighter's words sounded in her head once again. She had to admit that they hurt. She didn't mean to say the things that goaded at him and she couldn't just take them back as if she never said them. What can I do? she asked herself as her eyes turned to her clock. It was three o'clock, she still had a few hours left in the work day, but she wasn't sure she would be getting anything done with the thoughts that plagued her mind. Her mind was soon set. Nicole got up and left her office, swiftly walking the halls until she found who she was looking for, "Mr. Watkins." She greeted the janitor kindly, waving her hand to get his attention as he was listening to music while moping the floors. "Miss North!" The old man smiled at her as he pulled out his earbuds, he had a short frame to him and white scruff on his head and face, "What can I do for you?" "Do you remember that favor you owe me?" Nicole asked calmly. The old man smiled at her, missing a few of his teeth, "What do you need, Miss North?"

"Ugh! It really nags at me about what Aunt Aria did with that glove." Ashton let out with a shake of his head, "And after all the work we put in to finally get it." "Yeah..." Cedar sighed in agreement as he followed his brother and father down to the gym. After his classes yesterday, he returned to the gym to find that his father was nowhere to be found and Aunt Aria was still trying to apologize to some of the fighting students. Cedar called up his father to make sure he was alright and learned that the coach had headed back to the ranch to blow off steam in his own private gym. Cedar found it wiser to let him do so. Currently the twins were following their father down to the gym to start early morning practice, "Have you told the other coaches yet?" he asked, looking at his father. Celous' reply was to only look at him and Cedar frowned, "Yeah, I don't blame you for putting it off." he sighed, adjusting his grip on his gym bag. "Let's just try to get through practice without anymore interruptions." Celous finally replied. The three of them crossed Fighter's Mat and headed over to Coach Skye's office. Cedar and Ashton were throwing their bags against the wall like they always did as their father unlocked the door. It was when the old fighter hit the lights did Ashton and Cedar noticed him physically pause. "What now?" Ashton sighed seeing his father's action, "Don't tell me someone rearranged your whole office?" Celous didn't say anything and when the twins walked up behind him, they realized why, "No way." Cedar breathed softly, a smile widening on his face. Sitting within a glass display case upon Celous' desk was the Fight Club Glove. It looked like it had more tears in it than before, but it was clearly polished and cleaned up, shining in the light of the office like it was held up in victory. The twins exchanged a smile before looking at their father, Celous' face was completely taken with surprise. The coach slowly stepped up to his desk and carefully slid his hand along the top of the glass as if he didn't believe it was really there, "I don't understand..." he said slowly. "What's there to understand? The glove is back!" Ashton laughed as he followed his father into the room, "And it looks better than ever! We should center it on your bookshelf, right above your head, so that everyone can see it." he held up his hands and seemed to frame out the spot on the bookshelf where he wanted the glove to go, "No one will throw it away now!" When Celous looked at his son in amusement, Cedar caught sight of a little, white card placed in the corner of the glass display case, "What's that?" He asked, moving into the room. He moved around his father and picked up the little card, flipping it over to read the other side.
I think you lost this.
Cedar's face widened into a bright grin as he read the words on the page, the simple words reminding him of a note he and his brother once left on a certain someone's car. The twin passed the note to his father as Ashton raised a curious eyebrow at him, "I think we need to figure out who found it and thank them." Cedar said calmly, watching his father read the note. Celous' eyes squinted in curiosity as he looked over the simple words on the small card, "Do you recognize the handwriting?" Cedar asked him, trying to read his eyes. "Ashton, put it up on the bookshelf." Celous nodded to his younger son. Cedar frowned when he didn't answer his question, "Cedar why don't you go tell the team? This'll brighten their spirits." The coach tucked the small note in his coat pocket before he turned to leave the room. "Where are you going?" Cedar called after him. "Just do as your told!" Celous answered back on his way out the door.

"Nicole!" Dr. Liv's sharp voice sounded from the dean's office as Celous stepped up to it, he paused right before the door and carefully glanced inside. Dr. Liv's back was to him as she faced the dean, sitting at her desk, but Nicole looked jolted as if the doctor's call had just woken her up. Her hair was wet as if she had just taken a shower, and Celous swore she was wearing the same clothes she was wearing the day before. "Huh? Oh, Claral what do you need?" Nicole asked, raising her hand to face to rub her eyes. "One of my students brought me these." Claral replied to her, holding up a set of clothes, she actually held them as far from her as possible, "She said she found them in the girl's shower and she didn't who they belonged too. Now, I know they're yours, but, goodness, Nicole! What in the world were you doing that makes them stink this bad?! They smell like a junkyard!" The dean had her chin rested in her hand as she leaned on her desk, her tired eyes staring at the doctor and the clothes with almost an annoyance in her eyes, "Just put them in the bag." She sighed, turning to look around the office to find where the bag actually was before motioning towards it, "And thank you for bringing them to me." she added politely. "So you're not going to tell me why they smell like they were washed in garbage?" Claral's voice came flat and Celous knew she was frowning at the dean even though he couldn't see her face. "I think you know the answer to that one Claral." Nicole sighed, "Is there anything else I can do for you?" Celous couldn't help but watch her, she was clearly exhausted and the way she stretched her back, she was clearly sore as well. "Are you alright, Nicole?" Claral asked, she placed the dean's clothes in her bag before standing back in front of her, her hands on her hips, "You look like you didn't get any sleep at all last night." Nicole stared back at the doctor, from the look on her face Celous guessed that her lack of sleep had stretched her cares thin, "Oh really?" She replied flatly. "I think you need to go home, Nicole." Claral sighed, "Get some rest, something tells me you haven't been home all night." "I can't, Claral, there's too much to do. I'm meeting Professor Orso again for lunch--" "Professor Orso?" Claral cut her off flatly, "Really Nicole?" "Yes! Professor Orso, he has many good ideas for the wildlife department!" Claral leaned down on the dean's desk, "I just hope that's all he has that has your attention!" Celous found himself holding his breath as he waited for Nicole's reply, the dean had her tired blue eyes locked in an angered gaze with the doctor, "Claral," Nicole said lowly, "If Professor Orso had caught my eye, I wouldn't have spent my entire night searching a junkyard for an old boxing glove. Now, can I help you with anything else?" she asked sharply. Celous let out a gasp of disbelief as he pulled away from the doorway, not hearing Dr. Liv's reply. He pulled the little white card from his pocket and stared at the handwriting, he had his suspicion that it had been her, but he didn't actually think it would be true. "Miss North!" Celous about cursed when he heard his son's call echo from down the hall, he quickly moved away from the dean's office before Cedar could see spot him. Rounding around another corner he heard two running footsteps skid in front of the dean's office, "Miss North you found it!" Cedar's voice exclaimed bright, "Hey, Dr. Liv." Celous' brow furrowed in confusion, Cedar knew that Nicole had found the glove? How did he know? he asked himself. "How did you find it?!" Ashton's voice asked, "I figured it would've been lost in the junkyard by now!" "Lost is an understatement." Nicole sighed, but Celous could hear the smile in her voice, "You two make sure your father takes good care of it from now on, ok?" "Oh, don't worry, Miss North, we will." Cedar replied, his bright smile evident in his voice. "What's going on? What are you talk about?" Dr. Liv's voice asked, "I obviously missed something!" "It's a rather long story, Claral." Nicole sighed, "But the main points are that Fighter's Glove had gotten mistakenly thrown away--" "And Miss North went out and found it!" Cedar finished brightly, "Oh, just wait until dad hears about this!" "No, Cedar." Nicole's voice sounded calmly, but firmly, "If I wanted your father to know, I would've signed the card. You are not to tell him." "But Miss North--" "No, boys." Nicole cut Ashton off, "He is not to know. Your father needs his space and that means none of your little scheming!" "Aw, now that's not--" "I mean it, boys." Nicole insisted, "I appreciate your help and your support, but..." She let out a sigh, "Let things just happen, please?" There was a silence from the twins before finally Cedar sighed, "Alright." He paused and Celous could hear the smile spreading on his face, "Thanks for finding the glove, Miss North." "You're welcome, boys." Celous pulled off the wall he was leaned against at the dean's soft words. He slipped the little card back into his pocket before he headed back to the gym.

Valentines Day. Nicole hadn't spoken with Celous in almost a week. After the twins had come to her office to tell her of the Fight Club Glove's reappearance, Nicole had gone down to the gym to express her relief to the coach. Celous inquired if she knew who had located the glove, but Nicole danced around her answer before swiftly changing the subject. Since then she only spoke to Celous when she just happened to see him and the two always exchanged brief words when they did. She kept away to give him his space, but every day away from him, her heart seemed to long for him more. The only upside was that she was able to get more of her work done and do more for the college, she even went out to lunch with Claral for once, but always, while she worked, a nagging prodded at her from the back of her mind. The twins held up their promise in keeping out of her and their father's relationship, but they were able to convince her to continue meeting them at the stadium for their brief football practices. The dean was getting better at understanding the complexity of football and she found herself looking forward to spending the time with the Skye twins, the two always seemed to know how to brighten her day. Tonight; however, Cedar was on a romantic date with his girlfriend, Stella, and Ashton was heading off to a single's valentine's get-together. Nicole heard all about their plans the last time they met and she looked forward to hearing how all of it went when they met again. She hoped that Stella enjoyed the evening Cedar had planned out, the older twin having been planning it for weeks, and she also hoped that Ashton would find a girl at the single's event to hopefully get to know better. The twins had prodded her about her Valentines plans, but she never gave them a straight answer. Nicole had to admit she hoped this year's Valentines would be different. Her mind kept playing these fantasies that maybe Celous would call her, show up at her door, or leave something in her office, but all day as she was at work, nothing happened. She didn't even see him. With her hopeful fantasies being a bust she planned on continuing her own Valentine's tradition: Eating ice cream on the couch with her cat in her lap and a movie on the TV. However, she realized there a rather large gap in her plans when she found she was all out of ice cream. The dean was probably the only one at the small mart in the middle of town besides those that got stuck working there that night. She almost felt ashamed as she placed her ice cream on the check out and exchanging a knowing and sympathetic look with the clerk. Valentines day decor was hanging up all around them. "I'll be honest," The clerk sighed to her, "I'd be doing the same as you tonight, if I wasn't working." Nicole gave her a small smile, "Well, here's to both of us." The clerk nodded in agreement, "Have a good night, ma'am." "You too." Nicole sighed. She dropped her ice cream in a sack and started out the door. Her car was parked a little ways down the street and Nicole started searching her coat pockets for her keys as she headed down the quiet sidewalk, a streetlamp flickering above her. She didn't notice that she was the only out there. It happened when she was walking past an alley. Nicole's attention was still focused down to her pockets in search of her keys when she was suddenly rammed into from the side. The blow knocked her down, her grocery sack smacking the ground and the ice cream exploded inside it. Nicole let out a grunt as her shoulder met the hard concrete, pain splinting through it, but before she could do anything, a hand grab onto her hair and drag her further into the alley. "Nice coat, lady!" Nicole heard some sneer as she tried to reach for the hand that was dragging her by her hair, her face twisted in pain, "Mind if we take it from ya?" When the dean started to call out for help, a boot was kicked into her stomach, knocking the wind out of her and leaving her grasping for air. "Hey! Hey! Look at that pretty bracelet too!" a different voice sounded. Nicole's face was shoved roughly into the broken concrete as she felt hands grabbing for the coat that she wore. She tried to twist and fight back, tried to struggle to get away, but with every struggle came another hit from them. When they tore her coat off of her, the boot returned to kick her over, bruising her ribs before a knee pinned against her back, another hand going for her bracelet. Fear kept Nicole fighting. Her mind was whirling with the suddenness of the events that took place, but it seemed like everything she tried to do to get away, she only received more from her attackers. "Got any money in those pockets, lady?" one of the voices sneered, Nicole was able roll back to her back, and she saw one of her attackers coming at her to check her jean pockets for cash. When he was close enough, Nicole caught the left side of his face in a right cross, her wrist kept straight the entire time, "Ahh!" the man let out, her hit knocking him off of her. She took that wisp of time to scramble to her feet, her palms scrapping against the gravel, before she ran for the entrance to the alley. She didn't get two strides away when one of the others shoved her against the dark wall of the alley. "Why you little--you're gonna pay for that!" the one she hit spat in anger. After she was shoved against the wall another hand found her hair and threw her back down onto the ground. The man she hit dropped his knee into her stomach to once again knock away her breath, before he pinned her shoulder with his right hand and continually beat her face with his left. They left her in that alley. Nicole's attackers took her coat, her bracelet, her necklace, her money, and her keys and left her to rot on the broken ground. Her trembling body ached all over, she didn't have the strength to get up, and her heart beat with shattering fear, but from the wounds she had received, her vision was growing blurry and a fogginess filled her mind. The last thing she saw was her cell phone. While her attackers were running off, it had fallen out of the pocket of the coat that they took. She saw the screen crack when it hit the ground, and it was lit up to indicate that someone was calling her, but her blurry vision couldn't tell who it was. Nicole listened to the sound of it ring before everything faded black.

"She still not answering?" Celous let out a long sigh as he stared at his phone, ending the call when it went to voice mail once again, "No." He sighed, rubbing his hand down his mouth, "And she always answers." He was sitting on the couch at his ranch, his elbows on his knees as he continued to stare at the device in his hand, maybe if he tried again? "She's probably in the shower or something like that." Aria insisted as she made herself some dinner in the kitchen, "I'm sure she's not mad at you, Celous." She came into the front room and looked at him. The woman had pasta sauce on her face as she making herself her valentine's spaghetti, "I'm sure she'll call you back, she seems like that type of person. I'm just thinking that when she does see your calls she's gonna think something's wrong and you wouldn't want that would you?" she asked placing a hand on her hip. Celous glanced at his sons' aunt, still holding his mouth in his hand as the light of his phone shone on his face, "I think your water's boiling." He replied stiffly, he could hear it coming from the kitchen. Aria frowned back at him, "Well maybe you could give the moving guys a call?" she suggested as she headed back into the kitchen, "My stuff is stuck back in my old state and they don't seemed to be listening to me! I'm sure your voice will scare them into action!" "I thought you were waiting on the finalization of your cottage before worrying about your junk." Celous called back, he leaned back on the couch and looked at his phone again, just waiting for it to ring. "It's not junk!" Aria shot back at him, he could hear her pouring the noodles into her boiling pot, "And the cottage is practically mine already! They just need to finish up the paperwork! I should be able to move in next week as long as I can get my stuff!" "Aria how are you paying for all of it?" Celous asked roughly as he turned his head toward the kitchen. "I've got an interview with the airport this Friday, if that's what you're trying to get at!" The woman shot back at him, she reappeared in the doorway, but Celous was looking down at his phone again, "I know you're desperate to get me out of your little ranch after the glove fiasco last week, but cut me some slack, I'm really trying here!" She frowned when the fighter didn't look back at her, she was starting to wonder if he had even heard her, "Oh relax, Celous!" Aria snapped, "She'll call you back! Honestly I'm surprised you didn't call her up last week!" Celous shook his head to clear his thoughts and finally turned his eyes up at her, "Is it an interview or is it a date, Aria?" he asked flatly, completely ignoring her change in subject. A sly smile slid onto Aria's face as she fluttered flirty eyes at the fighter, "That's the main question, isn't it?" she asked teasingly, "Speaking of dates, if you're so worried why don't you give her another call? I'm sure calling her--let's see this would be the fourth time? Yeah, that must be her magic number, call her again and see if she answers, then maybe you'll finally be out on a date tonight?" She huffed and started back into the kitchen, "You first date in over twenty years, that's a miracle in itself." she muttered flatly. Celous frowned back at the woman and resisted the urge to roll his eyes as he looked back at his phone. He pulled up the number he had most recently called, staring at the name in which it belonged too for a long time. However, before his thumb could hit dial, the screen changed and ringing erupted from it. A hoped skipped in his chest that she was finally calling him back, but he couldn't deny his disappointment when he read the name Dr. Claral Liv. "Celous you need to get to Willowtree right away!" The doctor's voice snapped with urgency when the fighter picked up the phone. Celous paused, his brow furrowing in confusion, Willowtree was a hospital where Claral often volunteered her time, "Calm down, Claral, what's wrong?" He asked firmly, What did my boys do now? he added to himself in annoyance. Aria caught the seriousness of his tone and reappeared at the doorway. "It's Nicole!" Claral replied, Celous sat up in alarm, his face fallen with panic, "They just brought her in! Celous, it looks really serious! "What happened Claral?" The old fighter asked, he glanced at Aria, the woman was looking back at him with firm concern creased in her brow as she listened to his half of the conversation. Celous could feel his heart pounding in his chest as he waited for the doctor's response. "I don't know yet, they're not letting anyone in the room. She was unconscious when they brought her in-" Claral cut off, Celous could hear her asking one of the hospital staff for answers, "She was found in an alley, Celous, they think she was mugged!" The old fighter clenched his fist, "I'm on my way." he stated hardly, he didn't wait for Claral's goodbye. He hung up the phone and swiftly headed for the door. "Celous, what's wrong?!" Aria called after him. "It's Nicole." Celous replied firmly, his heart pounding in his chest as he threw on his boots at the front door, and he could feel a tightness in his muscles as conflicted anger shot through his veins, "She's at Willowtree. Claral thinks she was mugged." "Willowtree the hospital?!" Aria let out in horror, "I'm calling the twins!" she disappeared into the kitchen. "Don't bother the twins, let them enjoy their nights!" Celous sounded after her. Aria reappeared in the doorway, a frown on her face, "I'm calling the twins." She stated hardly, "As much as they love that pretty little dean of your's, Celous, they're gonna want to know!" she vanished back into the kitchen. Celous didn't bother to argue with her, he was more concerned with getting to the hospital. Once his boots were on he headed out the door, allowing it to slam behind him as he hurried to his truck. I knew something was wrong. He scolded himself, I knew I should've called her sooner. he felt a panic in his chest as his mind wondered what state Nicole was in, If I ever get my hands on whoever hurt her... he let his thought trail off as he fired up his truck. Flying down his drive to get to Willowtree as fast as he could.
