Aww. "Ships" was a bit heartbreaking, but at the same time, I adored how Wylie and Ceto reassured themselves and each other that they'd be together again.

Yeah. <3 It was a way to show a few things, like the fact that Ceto's aunt was the previous Tidecaller. Little facts that will drive the plot going forward. And yes, Wylie and Ceto have a very special bond. It will continue to hold even after they are apart for nearly 3 years.

» ѕнαdσω ⚔️ ;; Shadow! I've got another song that I think fit "Ships". Maybe a bit too well, lol. It's called "Ocean Eyes"; it really brings out the emotional ending of the one-shot and the teary gaze Ceto and Wylie held when she left with the Waterbearer to train.
Edit: I've got some more - How Far I'll Go, Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea, and High Tide. (I didn't pick them because they've got ocean themes, but I kinda did on purpose ahaha ;u;)

☆ "Ocean Eyes" is pretty explanatory. Wylie’s eyes are described as "a beautiful shimmering blue", which alludes to the various shades of blue that are his eyes. But as I've said, it ties in with "Ships", specifically the ending. The lyrics - "No fair / You really know how to make me cry / When you gimme those ocean eyes / I'm scared / I've never fallen from quite this high / Falling into your ocean eyes / Those ocean eyes" - fully touch on the tears that were shed by the Tribe, including Wylie's and Ceto's specifically. The lyrics imply that Wylie's bright blue hues, his ocean eyes, made her cry in turn. She's nervous and scared, not knowing what awaits her in Ibai's sessions, but what she does know is that she has a responsibility to uphold, as the next Tidecaller of her cats.
☆ Next, "High Tide". This one was just..."eh" compared to the others. These lines - "When the waves and sand collide / I will be there every time / Let me be your high tide / Just like the water / I come rushing back every time" - stuck out to me. If it was a softer song, it seems like it's Amatheia reassuring her daughter that she'll be with her always. She knows Ceto is "helpless" and "weightless", but like the tide, she'll come rushing back no matter what.
☆ "How Far I'll Go". Now, know that I didn't pick this song just because it's from Moana. I simply felt like it fit Ceto personally. But now that I'm thinking about it, it surprisingly doesn't really fit The Tidecaller that well. It fits, but... at the same time it doesn't. As much as I love this movie and this song, both versions are simply too upbeat, "pop-ish", and lighthearted for the story, I think. Secondly, Ceto is attracted to the ocean, yes (Especially with - See the line where the sky meets the sea? / It calls me! / And no one knows how far it goes). But she doesn't want to get away from her home, you know? She seems content there, and this is more of an "I Want" song bent on exploration of the ocean.
☆ Now, "Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea". The phrase "between the devil and the deep (blue) sea" means "to be caught in a dilemma". In this song, I believe Ceto has grown older, and she has a few dilemmas of her own. This line - "And the tide it takes me away from you / and it brings me back again" - is talking about her recruitment. In this case, the "tide" is Ibai. The "you" is Wylie and her Tribe included. The second part is more or less her recalling the memories of her kin. She's been in the caves for as long as she could remember; when is the last time she saw the faces of her tribe? According to XYLØ, this song is "about someone facing an impossible decision. Either make a deal with the devil, or risk drowning." So, knowing this, it seems to be about Ceto being torn away from her Tribe, her mother, her best friend, and having to make the decision of rising to become the new Tidecaller or gamble with the possibility of "drowning" when she goes up against the Water God and his rage. It's an impossible decision, because she's supposed to be the new Tidecaller, and the Water God is a force of nature that will take a master of the tide to fully tame.
Ahh, sorry, I rambled there! But I'm sure you get it by now, haha. ^^;;
Can't wait till TTC (The Tidecaller) becomes it's own separate story!

I agree with the Moana song. It does and doesn't fit. Ceto isn't so much a wanderer. She's grounded where she is.
