Hello! It doesn't say what the StormClan leader's den is on the front page, so I wanted to check in and see what it was, if you knew. If not I might just make something up, I dunno. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's just that a couple of the cats wanted to go see her. I just didn't know if she'd be in her den at the time, or..? Probably not. cx Anyways, thanks!

lore Silverclaw, named for the distant mountain peaks raking the sky, for the sliver of moon hanging in the night
Her father's mother was a purebred Angora, a beautiful white she-cat named Snowlily. She was humble and shy and quiet, and had been declawed, meaning she was of little use to the Clan, but the Clan's leader, Morningstar (f), took pity on her and offered her refuge. She fell in love with a gray tom named Smokewhisker and had a litter of five kits, three of whom were killed by greencough when they were two moons old. The surviving kits were Silverclaw's father, Flintstar, and his sister, Oatwhisker (wild oats grow well under pine trees).
Flintstar took great pride in his heritage and was fiercely protective of his timid mother from the beginning. He was outspoken, proud, and cunning, and he raised his daughter to be the same way. He was appointed deputy under Froststar, Morningstar's deputy, and took the leader position after Froststar's untimely death. During his reign he was an outspoken supporter of breeding with outsiders, something the other Clans found controversial. Flintstar argued that new blood made the Clan stronger, and held this position tenaciously until his death. His rule also saw the beginning of something of a sexual revolution in MoonClan, as several cats felt free to explore their sexualities. Flintstar accepted these cats with open arms, speaking out for them as he had spoken for his mother.
When Flintstar's original deputy, Nightstep, died, he appointed his young daughter deputy, something that the senior warriors opposed. Silverclaw never did win the approval of the older generation, especially when Flintstar died and she was without his staunch approval. They clamored against her when she appointed her childhood friend, Smokewing [Jayfrost], deputy. The other Clans, too, feared for MoonClan's young leadership. Silverstar was determined to prove them wrong.
---
There's some political corruption in MoonClan; one bloodline has held power for generations. Every now and then another cat becomes leader, but their reigns are usually cut short for some reason or another. Some cats take this as a sign from StarClan that the one bloodline is destined to hold power.
Flintstar did his best to win favor during his reign. Besides his outside mating decree and his welcoming of cats of different sexualities, he appointed a former rogue deputy. Nightstep died in battle, however, just in time for the newly-named Silverclaw to become deputy. There is some suspicion surrounding this; some claim Flintstar killed Nightstep himself or guided his deputy into an ambush so his daughter could become deputy. This suspicion still exists, and Silverstar has to justify her every action to her senior warriors, especially her appointment of Smokewing as deputy. After some time, though, Smokewing proved herself to be the best candidate for leadership, and the outcry against her died down. However, there are still some dissidents among MoonClan's ranks.
--
MoonClan leadership
Moonstar ==> ... ==> Duskstar (Bearstar's mother) ==> Bearstar (Morningstar's grandfather) ==> Avalanchestar ==> Morningstar ==> Froststar ==> Flintstar ==> Silverstar
*only Avalanchestar and Froststar are leaders from outside Duskstar's bloodline; this might be the subject of a prophecy, maybe Duskstar and her kin are descended from the original Moonstar or something *shrug emoji* i'll develop this more later

tossing around headcanons for how the clans react to kittypets/halfbreeds/non-purebloods
as mentioned in previous posts, moonclan welcomes any cat who wants to join the clan, regardless of their heritage. they also encourage outside breeding so long as the clan cats remain loyal to their clan above all else. there's a twolegplace in the southern corner of moonclan territory, allowing moonclan the most exposure to kittypets and urban twolegs and causing pressure for moonclan to encroach on stormclan's borders.
to create conflict, i need at least one other clan to be kind of pureblood-elitists. i was thinking maybe stormclan for this, especially since they're the ones facing a border conflict; with streamclan and breezeclan backing stormclan up, though less strongly. since ivyclan doesn't border moonclan, they'd probably be neutral on the matter or might express verbal support for moonclan without being able to back it up with physical power, especially since stormclan might try to bully them into submission. streamclan is anti-kittypet bc they're anti-twoleg, seeing as twolegs crowd the river every greenleaf. same deal for breezeclan, though fewer twolegs come to the part of the river running through the moor. a large portion of the river runs through stormclan as well, so the moon-storm border is almost always being fought over; kind of like sunningrocks in the original series.
this is the conflict upon which i'm planning to build a moonclan fic. let me know your thoughts!

Hmn, if StormClan's that harsh than I may need to change a few things in my fic. I actually didn't write much involving the whole Clan yet just a couple cats so I really dont think it should be too hard.

it doesn't necessarily have to be the stormclan in your fic; it could be something that evolves under the rule of a certain leader later on, depending on when your fic takes place in comparison to mine :'o

I love the idea of StormClan cats being aggressive towards kittypet/rogue/loner blood! It works so well with the fic I was writing for the clan focused on a war over the very thing.

well storm's main thing they value is bravery, so it would actually be quite logical to be at least anti-kittypet for their 'soft' lives, but maybe a bit more tolerant of outsiders as long as they can show their bravery and loyalty. But there's no doubt that they'd be the ones most likely to be taken over by a Tigerstar elitist and support that, especially if they had recently had some conflict with cowardly outsiders.
Like canon ShadowClan, they wouldn't have to have this mindset for long and there would most definitely be a variance in the tolerance levels (especially in leaders), but they could be a very likely candidate for extremist anti-outsider swings now and again in their history.

okay so i was thinking about how the warrior code might work with these clans, and since the code of the original four clans was created in response to certain circumstances, maybe the code of the wff world clans would be different. obviously certain laws would be similar or identical due to necessity, but due to the nature of the five clans there might be different laws in the code that the original four clans never required or created; and likewise the original four clans may have encountered problems that required a certain law, while the five clans might not have that problem and therefore don't require that law to be in their code. additionally, codes that were rejected in the original clans might be accepted in the five clans. that said, i kind of want to write a sort of "code of the clans"-esque collection of short stories listing the code of the five clans and the circumstances that led to each law's creation. some ideas: - a new leader may neither kill nor banish nor otherwise destroy or defame the descendants of the previous leader
- all cats have the right to protest against any action of their leader without being called traitors to their clan
- a clan may take prisoners of war, but must agree to certain conditions of treatment (including but not limited to adequate access to food, shelter, water, and medicinal care)
- all kits, elders, and any cats who are otherwise incapable of caring for themselves have an inalienable right to protection, security, and medicinal care regardless of clan allegiance.
- all cats in a position of authority must show obeisance to starclan and avoid taking any action that would offend, reject, or otherwise appropriate the power of starclan, to prevent any one cat from possessing absolute power.

Here's the code I've got written up. I definitely think there's a lot of potential for some good shorts here! Lots of cats making really terrible decisions hahaha > :D Warrior Code - Defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life. Relationships, both platonic and romantic, are permitted between cats of different Clans so long as each cat’s loyalty remains to their Clan.
- Do not hunt or trespass on another Clan’s territory. Fresh-kill is the property of the Clan on whose territory it was killed.
- Boundaries must be checked and marked daily. Challenge all trespassers.
- Elders, queens, kits, medicine cats, and those cats who are sick, injured, or otherwise incapable of feeding themselves must be fed before warriors and apprentices.
- Prey is killed only to be eaten. Give thanks to StarClan for its life.
- A kit must be at least six moons old to become an apprentice.
- Newly appointed warriors must sit a silent vigil the night after receiving their warrior name. In the event that a vigil cannot be held for whatever reason, the new warrior will hold vigil on the next possible evening.
- A new leader may neither kill nor banish nor otherwise destroy or defame the descendants of the previous leader.
- A cat must have been a warrior for at least six moons before being chosen as deputy. A warrior must also first mentor one apprentice before being named deputy.
- The deputy will become Clan leader when the leader dies, retires, or is exiled.
- After the death, retirement, or exile of the deputy, a new deputy must be chosen before moonhigh; or, if the deputy dies, retires, or is exiled at night, before sunhigh.
- A Gathering between all Clans will be held at the full moon under a truce. There shall be no fighting from sunhigh the day of the Gathering until sunhigh the day after the Gathering to allow time for each Clan to safely travel to and from the Gathering site. Any cat in the Gathering patrol must be granted safe passage to and from the Gathering site; any cats not attending the Gathering are bound by the second law of the code as usual and may not cross other Clans’ territory.
- Killing a cat in battle is expressly forbidden unless they are outside the warrior code or it is necessary for self-defense or the defense of those unable to fight.
- All kits, elders, and any cats who are otherwise incapable of caring for themselves have an inalienable right to protection, security, and medicinal care regardless of Clan allegiance.
- A Clan may take prisoners of war, but prisoners must be provided with adequate access to food, water, shelter, and medicinal care. Prisoners of war who choose to join the Clan that captured them will no longer be considered prisoners, but will be considered traitors to their native Clan.
- All cats have the right to protest against any action of their leader without being labelled traitors to their Clan.
- All cats in a position of authority must show obeisance to StarClan and avoid taking any action that would offend, reject, or otherwise appropriate the power of StarClan, to prevent any one cat from possessing absolute power.
- The Clan is a family. Prejudice, deliberate mistreatment, abuse, or slander against a Clanmate or Clanmates is strictly forbidden. It is a leader’s responsibility to remain aware of such issues and punish any offenders as they see fit. A leader’s failure to notice or protect the cats of their Clan is an offense equivalent to inflicting the harm themselves.
- If a leader is found guilty of a crime, it is the job of the Clan to administer justice. The assembly will vote on an appropriate punishment during a Clan meeting open to all cats six moons and older.
- A medicine cat may not be blamed for the outcomes of any prophecies they receive or for the lives they fail to save. The will of StarClan is not to be questioned.
Medicine Cat Code - A medicine cat may not take a mate or have kits, nor may a medicine cat show partiality toward any cat for sentimental reasons when treating patients. It is a medicine cat’s duty to treat the injured or sick to the best of their ability.
- If a medicine cat deliberately fails to save a cat’s life when they had the capability and resources to do so, they are to be held responsible for that cat’s life.
- A medicine cat may only retire when their apprentice is ready to take their place.
- Each Clan may only have up to three medicine cats, including apprentices, at a time. Any Clan finding itself in a position without a medicine cat is permitted to host another Clan’s medicine cat in order to train a successor. Medicine cats are strongly encouraged to take an apprentice as soon as it should become possible in order to prevent this from happening.
- A medicine cat may only discuss dreams, prophecies, etc. with their leader or other medicine cats as appropriate; dreams of an otherwise prophetic nature should not be disclosed to any outside parties, or any other cats in the Clan.
- Medicine cats are granted safe passage across enemy territory when delivering herbs, warnings, or news to other medicine cats. Otherwise medicine cats are forbidden to trespass on another Clan’s territory.
- Medicine cats may not withhold treatment from any cat, unless they believe the treatment to be harmful or ineffective. Additionally, a medicine cat may not force a patient to accept treatment except when the cat’s life is at stake.
- It is a medicine cat’s responsibility to keep their herb supply well-stocked.
Rejected Codes
A leader may not appoint their kin or mate deputy. - Rejected because the leader’s kin may well be the best candidate for the position; additionally, the leader’s mate has been proven to work well with them in both casual and serious settings and therefore will prove indispensable to the Clan - Arguments against the leader’s mate: if the leader chooses a cat who is not their mate, they will have both their deputy and their mate to consult regarding difficult decisions. A cat whose deputy is their mate will have only one advisor. - This argument was refuted, as a cat who chooses his mate as his deputy has the whole of the Clan, especially senior warriors, to consult.
Cats who are not of pure blood may not be warriors. - Rejected because a cat’s heritage has no effect on their aptitude. Additionally, refusing cats of impure blood would result in inbreeding; this law would have a negative impact on the health of the Clan. - The above reason is also why cats may take mates from outside their Clan in order to enrich the gene pool. - The proponents of this law were the reason the eighteenth code exists.

Yeah, though it's mostly the original warrior code with some tweaks, clarifications, and special circumstances. Basically, I read Thunder and Shadow on Monday and was kind of pissed about certain things that the cats (especially Onestar) got away with, so I wanted this code to emphasize compassion and common sense instead of the typical pride and bullheadedness of the Erins' Clans. There will still be injustice among the five Clans, and some of the rules listed won't develop until later in the timeline (I'm thinking rule eighteen and beyond will be during the time of my fic) but I wanted to try and make it so there are fewer loopholes and fewer ways for one cat to seize an unhealthy amount of power, thus promoting peace. Also, I had to read The Prince by Machiavelli for class yesterday and was intrigued by the idea that the early Clans might have dynasties formed by family lines instead of the typical leader-deputy succession (maybe this could be in the time of healers, before deputies were a thing), and so if a new family group seized power they'd destroy the remnants of the previous leader's bloodline to ensure that no cat would rise up against them. So the early Clans would be more ruthless, but as the code evolved, cruelty became more of a crime, and the ideal leader changed from an all-powerful tyrant to a compassionate guide. There's still a strange trend of one bloodline holding power in MoonClan, but I plan to explain that more in my fic. There are those who think the code is an idealistic impossibility (especially outsiders and newcomers to the Clans), but the newer rules were created and upheld by those who suffered under cruel leaders, and as kits are born into the new rules, they find it easier to follow them, as the new code is all they've ever known. In short: cats decided they were done accepting the bad things life threw at them and imposed rules that would encourage a better life for their kits. This is still seen as blasphemous (or questioning the will of StarClan) to some of the older cats, who secretly want to overthrow these rules, and the Clans' best philosophers are still debating whether peace can last, even under a code that promotes kindness. So there's some argument over the code, but there always is, I think. There are always those who will dissent, and that only opens up more potential for conflict within a Clan, as opposed to inter-Clan conflicts all the time. I guess it just offers a lot of possibility and I like to think about it, haha.

Okay.

yeah my writing ideas for this are zero rn but that's mostly because I'm working on another world I've had for over a year now and decided to put a fantasy in it too so
my narrator slowly turned from angry teenager to sassy child who constantly breaks the fourth wall and tbh I've stopped trying to filter myself in it it may or may not be finished in a draft soon it may or may not be posted here ever. I am having many troubles finding chapter cutoffs and it may just end up being 10+ pages because why not.
This has quickly become a rant, apologies.
