This getting a much more positive outcome than I originally thought it would. surveys tend to go over really well. people like to tell you what they want to see, haha. I suppose so, but I only expected a few people to actually fill this out. I'm so happy so many people are willing to take some time out of their day to give such good feedback.

tbh I'm surprised how many people enjoy third person though. With how YA is going recently, it would have seemed as though first would have been a bit more out there in terms of votes.

Honestly, I figured 3rd and 1st would be pretty popular, but 2nd?? That's the one that gets me.

Honestly, I figured 3rd and 1st would be pretty popular, but 2nd?? That's the one that gets me. the trouble is that 2nd is very, very hard to write well without coming off as cheesy or too pushy. it requires a lot of subtle nuance and careful construction, and unless it's done exceptionally well, it usually falls flat on its face, and people hate to read it as a result. it would be more popular if it wasn't so gosh dang difficult to write well.

tbh I'm surprised how many people enjoy third person though. With how YA is going recently, it would have seemed as though first would have been a bit more out there in terms of votes. i feel like ya tends to be a good split of 3rd/1st, at least from what i've read lately. granted, i gravitate towards 3rd more anyways, so maybe i'm a little biased, but both have a fair share of ya works.

Hmmm, perhaps. However, the only 2nd person things I ever like to read are whateverxreader things. Otherwise, it never seems good to me. Even if it's written quite well, I'm just not a fan of 2nd. But thank you for the insight

I just like writing second because it feels a lot more natural to me than the other two tenses? I can write faster in second than the other tenses. To the extent that I write in second if I'm having trouble with a section and then just change tenses back to fit whatever I'm writing. It just has that feeling of rightness to me that the other tenses just can't compare with.
Third just takes a long time for me. I'm trying to write my skyrim short in third just for practice and I can only write 1-2 paragraphs before it feels chunky and awkward and just gross in terms of flow. idek

Huh, interesting. Personally, I think I prefer to write in 1st. It seems more natural to me, like I am the character and I know exactly what they're thinking so I can portray it.

3rd is pretty easy for me, too, so I get what you mean. But, 1st just seems to be the best for me. I like how we have such a neat, little diversity here :3

1.What POV do you prefer to read in general?
2. What genres do you like reading most? You may pick two.
3. What annoys you most about some fanfictions? [To be honest, the way a lot of them are set up. The lay outs mostly. I also don't like large chapters. I like small ones so my attention span can handle it]
4. What's one story cliche you wish would change? [Even though I write a lot of it I hate the whole love at first site, or for Warrior fics it's gotta be the whole "That Character is bad because they've had two or three mates." It's Normal to have more than one mate in a lifetime.]
5. How important is grammar to you while reading a story? [As long as I can read it and the spelling isn't too bad I don't mind]
6. Are there any prefixes or suffixes that you absolutely hate? If so, which ones?
7. Are there any prefixes or suffixes that you absolutely love? If so, which ones?
8. Do you prefer short chapters, or long ones? [SHORT]
9. What is the ideal number of chapters to a story in general? [About 20-25 depending on the story]
10. Do banners affect whether or not you'll read a fanfiction? If so, how? [Eh. Not really]
11. Does the author affect if you'll read a fanfction? As in, would you read a fic written by a well known author over a newer one?
12. Are polls enjoyable for a story? As in, is it fun to interact with the story and author and possibly influence the story itself with polls?
13. How often do you 'stealth read?'(reading without posting to the author that you are indeed reading their story) [Never. I find it rude if you don't let the author know you're supporting them. Might as well not read it at all]
14. Finally, favorite fanfictions so far?[Probably Empty so far.]

Also, never put < > in your SN unless you want to break quotes. xD You can't quote someone with < and > on either side of their SN.
Uh, to keep this semi-relevant: I find it easier to write in 3rd and find myself slipping back into it if I try to write in 2nd or 1st. However, I write better (in my opinion) in 1st. Like I produce better work. I have only tried writing in second...three times I believe. All those times failed a little. ^^' I seem to only be able to write in past-tense as well. When I try 1st person present-tense I really struggle.

1. What POV do you prefer to read in general? One the author feels comfortable with. It can be noticable when the author isn't comfortable with the POV they've picked, for example tense shifts. But if it's done well, I'll enjoy any POV.
2. What genres do you like reading most? You may pick two.Mystery, coming of age
3. What annoys you most about some fanfictions? In Warriors, starting with the main character as a kit. More generally, characters who exist purely as a love interest, or are unrealistically perfect love interests.
4. What's one story cliche you wish would change?Love triangles.
5. How important is grammar to you while reading a story?Depends on the part of grammar. Your/you're I can skip over, but something like switching tense or not punctuating properly really bugs me.
6. Are there any prefixes or suffixes that you absolutely hate? If so, which ones?Gemstones/exotic animals or plants that cats wouldn't realistically know about.
7. Are there any prefixes or suffixes that you absolutely love? If so, which ones?Oak, flight, fire, stream, cherry, dark.
8. Do you prefer short chapters, or long ones?Medium to long.
9. What is the ideal number of chapters to a story in general?Entirely depends on the complexity of the story.
10. Do banners affect whether or not you'll read a fanfiction? If so, how?No.
11. Does the author affect if you'll read a fanfction? As in, would you read a fic written by a well known author over a newer one?If I've talked to an author, I'm likely to check them out. But I also look for newer authors, or just check out random threads.
12. Are polls enjoyable for a story? As in, is it fun to interact with the story and author and possibly influence the story itself with polls?Yes
13. How often do you 'stealth read?'(reading without posting to the author that you are indeed reading their story)...More than I ought to. Largely through forgetfulness.
14. Finally, favorite fanfictions so far?(I'll be nice and let you choose 3)HTMF, Absence of Rain, Mortality

1. What POV do you prefer to read in general? I really don't care - as long as it has a solid point-of-view that's easy to follow, I'm down for whatever.
2. What genres do you like reading most? You may pick two. Adventure and fantasy.
3. What annoys you most about some fanfictions? I can't think of anything specific. I guess just when characters go from having no relationship with each other to suddenly becoming interested in one another overnight.
4. What's one story cliche you wish would change? The "chosen one"/main character is literally chosen by a prophecy from StarClan that gets read aloud to its parents in the prologue/first chapter when the "chosen one" is far too young to understand what's happening and the parents keep the secret from the "chosen one" for moons...
5. How important is grammar to you while reading a story? Very. If I can't follow what you're saying easily, I won't waste my time.
6. Are there any prefixes or suffixes that you absolutely hate? If so, which ones? -shine, Shimmer-, anything that a cat wouldn't understand/know the word for or anything that sounds vaguely Sue-ish
7. Are there any prefixes or suffixes that you absolutely love? If so, which ones? -shade, -claw, -wing, Jay-, -storm, -blaze
8. Do you prefer short chapters, or long ones? Long ones
9. What is the ideal number of chapters to a story in general? An even number.
10. Do banners affect whether or not you'll read a fanfiction? If so, how? Yeah, because if the banner looks well-made than I'll assume the story is well-written, too.
11. Does the author affect if you'll read a fanfction? As in, would you read a fic written by a well known author over a newer one? No - a good fanfic is a good fanfic
12. Are polls enjoyable for a story? As in, is it fun to interact with the story and author and possibly influence the story itself with polls? Yeah! I think they're nice!
13. How often do you 'stealth read?'(reading without posting to the author that you are indeed reading their story) All the time haha
14. Finally, favorite fanfictions so far?(I'll be nice and let you choose 3) The Lighthouse by Katanaheart, the absence of rain by Emphemeral, and How the Mighty Fall by Tuesday

1. What POV do you prefer to read in general? First person but I enjoy third as well 2. What genres do you like reading most? You may pick two. Fantasy and drama 3. What annoys you most about some fanfictions? Cliche plots 4. What's one story cliche you wish would change? Characters falling in love right away 5. How important is grammar to you while reading a story? If there are one or two mistakes I don't care but if they're everywhere I find it irritating 6. Are there any prefixes or suffixes that you absolutely hate? If so, which ones? Super long ones or ones that cats would never have heard of 7. Are there any prefixes or suffixes that you absolutely love? If so, which ones? Moss, Willow, Mist, Pebble, Leaf 8. Do you prefer short chapters, or long ones? Short to medium because I don't have a ton of time to read 9. What is the ideal number of chapters to a story in general? 20-30 10. Do banners affect whether or not you'll read a fanfiction? If so, how? Not really but it's nice when there is one 11. Does the author affect if you'll read a fanfction? As in, would you read a fic written by a well known author over a newer one? If the author is my friend or I enjoyed their other stories I'll tend to read it but I like reading fics by new authors too 12. Are polls enjoyable for a story? As in, is it fun to interact with the story and author and possibly influence the story itself with polls? I don't like the story being influenced by polls but I like hearing feedback about the story. 13. How often do you 'stealth read?'(reading without posting to the author that you are indeed reading their story) Sometimes I'll read in between classes but usually I'll go back later and post. 14. Finally, favorite fanfictions so far?(I'll be nice and let you choose 3) Hmm I haven't read much lately so there could be some great new ones I haven't read yet but I'd say Curse by Shadowface, How the Mighty Fall by Tuesday, and A Lamentation of Swans by Sapphire
