ohhh that's cool Happy! are you going to have a big party, or just the usual?) "What did we ever do to the ground to deserve this mistreatment?" She muttered, shaking one large fist lightly in the direction of the sand and grit. "What this place needs is a good few days of rain. Maybe it will cause a mudslide, and kill somethings, but i believe it will be better for everyone on the whole." She liked the rain, and heavy winds too. Nothing was better then being caught in the middle of a storm, when the world was at it's most ferocious, and you could do nothing but watch as the entire earth when to battle. Not that Kydos needed more violence in it's life, it was more that a cool snap might help the temperament of the folks who lived here. The ground started to level out slightly, and her feet found more purchase, Sonal straightened up and looked behind around, "It is unnervingly clear up here. Not even a cloud." She could see the guards clearly from above, sparkling in the sunlight. Was that Camilla and Coran down there? Hard to tell, but she hoped not, because even from this distance, Sonal had no trouble spotting Iratus. Chrysanta kept pace easily with her Captain, falling in just behind him, as she should. She was used to blistering heat, and was glad of it today, because it was particularly brutal. The two tourists didn't seem to be faring so nicely, and though Soren would be used to it too, his expression when caught hadn't been the most comfortable. She sighed inwardly, but gave no mark of it outwardly. She had a bit of a fondness for him, true, but she was sure it was nothing past professional admiration, and it annoyed her as well as her Captain to see him so easily distracted. She kept her mouth shut, nonetheless, it wasn't her place to reprimand him. Not when Iratus was here, anyway. Coran tried not to visibly shrink away, but he could hear his heart beating and nothing else now. Anxiety spiking to incredible heights, he tried to subtly take deeper breathes whilst maintaining an innocent air. "Ohhhhh, very impressive." She drawled, watching him spin the gun with an easy confidence. "Well then, that settles that. I'm going to go nuts if I stay here a minute longer anyway." She grabbed a large brimmed hat from her quarters before they left, it was dusty brown and ancient, and hide her face from both view and the glare of the sun. On her first trip to Kydos, years ago, she'd gotten such intense heat stroke she'd been in bed for days, and was in no hurry to repeat that now she was a) a captain and on a trip that actually mattered to her. "As much as I love breaking a few noses, I don't need to tell you that it's a low profile for both of us here, you too Xavier. Heads down, eyes low, and if you do get in a fight, guns as a last resort. It'll be just our luck for Iratus to decide the one gun shot he hears isn't from a hunting party."

Heath Iratus was a no nonsense man and it was safe to assume he was always a little mad about something, so Soren could have been in for much worse, but the captain of the guard restrained himself from any form of major scolding with civilians present. "We have major criminals known to be in this area Soren. I trust you were paying attention during Chrysanta's debriefing and I should not have to remind you of the stakes." He spat. However, since they hadn't started a search and Soren was generally a good soldier besides his big heart, Iratus wasn't going to waste more time on teaching him a lesson, the captain hated poor time management. He then whirled on Camilla and Coran, his tall frame cast a shadow over them and he narrowed his eyes more, creating more of a squint with crows feet that may have looked pleasant on some, but somehow made his face look more worn and angry. "Travelers, yes? Where are you two from. Kydos is no common vacation spot." He demanded. Camilla gasped a little, but covered it smoothly by giving a pull on Coran's arm "Its the Captain himself. He's just like all the stories!" She whispered lowly, but enough for the guards to hear her excitement.
"I am quite impressive aren't I?" Xavier grinned broadly and gave Whetu a showman's wink before replacing his gun to the holster. "Low profile, got it." He saluted and pulled his canteen over one shoulder. Kain frowned slightly "Unfortunately, none of us look like locals so we will probably have to stay out of sight is much as possible. Luckily none of the locals are particularly fans of Mother Clerus and have plenty of illegal dealings themselves so I doubt they'll rat on us unless offered good money." He observed. "Plus, we are all much more attractive then the locals which is sure to make us stand out." Xavier sighed, as if it was a burden to be pretty.
(That's exciting Happy! Good to have your birthday home with family! I feel you I need a break for college right now my stress levels are through the roof)

(Probably just a small family thing, not even going to be home-going somewhere else-so can't do a big thing. That's perfect for me though. XD) (Aw, I'm sorry to hear that, I hope things get better soon, or the break is enough time to recharge!)
Ralif briefly closed his eye at the mention of storms, finding the notion to be rather attractive has well. Storms were cover, the weather and darkness brought about by them a beautiful way to move in and out undetected-so long as the target home wasn't occupied by its tenants thanks to the howling outside. A place like Kydos, while there wasn't anything of value worth stealing, could definitely benefit from such a monsoon. At least it would tramp the dust clinging in the air down, Ralif was certain he'd have choked on it were it not for his black mask made of thick cloth. While helpful in that manner, it was absolutely making him uncomfortable due to the sun beating down on him and his attire. "Normally a clear sky and sunny day wouldn't seem quite so ominous, but here we are." Ralif's left hand rested on the grip of his revolver, studying the open space around them. It shouldn't have been a place for an ambush, yet he couldn't help but to feel uneasy. It was like he was being watched.
Soren merely offered a nod in response to his captain's reprimand, knowing full well that he deserved it. It was his duty to be on the lookout for the criminals they were all here to apprehend after all, and he'd allowed himself to become sidetracked quite easily by a pretty face and the opportunity to spin a yarn. Though internally he cringed at the grilling his captain was about to deliver to the two civilians he'd been talking with he, his face remained passive and neutral, not wanting to cause any further ire to Iratus. A fitting name, now that he thought about it. He glanced over towards Chrysanta briefly, acknowledging her presence, but not doing anything more. He really couldn't afford to so much as look like he was distracted, not again, though his heard did flutter just a touch upon seeing her.

i only have three subjects and i here i am dying of stress)
It took him a few seconds, but Coran managed to nod in response to Camilla's whisper. Man, she was good. You couldn't tell at all how she was feeling, whereas the navigator's heart was thundering out a very loud rhythm right now, "Egring, sir." He added the 'sir' before he could stop himself, too overwhelmed by the natural dominance men like him projected. "Our friend is on a hunting party." His voice was annoyingly high pitched at the moment, but he was too busy focusing on not crying or screaming to really care about it. Hopefully people always deferred to Iratus with this amount of fear. "We didn't mean to distract one of your men, we were just, um, curious, about what guards do." He shrugged, trying to make himself less stiff. He assumed he'd met some of the most intimidating people he'd have to meet about The Blackguard, but the Royal Captain and his second in command were doing a good job of putting the fear of the Gods in him. Chrysanta watched the tourists through narrowed brown eyes, not that she was inherently suspicious of them (well, she was, but she was of most people), more in that the sun was blinding. "You two should probably wait back on your ship. We have reason to believe that there are known criminals using this town as a kind of rendezvous."
"It's a burden we all must carry." Whetu shook her head, taking in her tiny gang of Kain and Xavier. It didn't take much to split her crew into skeleton parts, and that was without including the dog in the equation. She ignored those fears and pressed on with the knowledge that their strength was greater then their numbers. Boarding the island was a quiet and tricky business, they couldn't use the main docks for obvious reasons, and the coast was littered with jutting spires of rock. Thankfully the good weather was paying off at last though, and the ocean was mercifully still. Somewhere on the island were the other four members of their crew, but she had no idea where they could be. At least the lack of yelling and gunshots meant they were either still alive, or died peacefully. Maybe in a rock slide, or something. "You two, ready?"
She expected to see a few skeletons or skulls and Sonal was almost disappointed by the lack of obvious threats to her health. Almost. She tried to ignore the square frame of Iratus, a tiny dot far down below, with two other guards, it appeared. She was almost certain that was Camilla and Coran with them, Camilla's hair was tied back, but that did nothing to change the sheer colour of it. Hopefully they could handle a bit of extra pressure. "Here we are indeed. This would be a good vantage point." The woman nodded her head in appreciation, "You can see all the way to Mount Udiya. The locals should take more advantage of their natural surroundings." She chastised, hands on hips. Her own home was very flat, mostly, as her house had been down by one of the dirty rivers that cut the city into pieces: she could've used a good look-out point herself in the past. "Where to next, map-man?"

(Aw, I'm sorry to hear that Sappho! Hope things'll get fixed soon. Sorry I haven't posted in a bit, just a little busy.)
Such open space was slightly alien to Ralif, a man whose life so far had been primarily spent in the nooks and crannies of alleyways and homes. To be able to see so much at once really was something else, but at the same time he knew that meant someone, or something, could see them every bit as easily. The uneasy feeling he had grew only stronger. "I don't think that the locals have the smarts required to take advantage of their surroundings, and even if they did I can't imagine hauling building materials up all this way." He unfurled the map-it was already oriented correctly-furrowing his brow as he studied it. "Well, looks like we stay left and keep going the way we are, heading somewhat to Mount Udiya." Truthfully, he wanted to be through with this little venture as quickly as possible. The sweat, the heat, and the guards were all equal antagonists he wanted nothing more than to be rid of.
(I'll go ahead and wait for Win to respond with Heath before continuing with Soren.)

Sorry I have been really busy!)
Camilla arched a thin brow and tilted her head a little at Chrysanta's warning. "Pardon? Is this not an island full of criminals? This is why we sought a good story and protection. Mother said if you see a royal guard's uniform and you feel as if you are not comfortable with you surroundings, always go to them, they stand for justice and are brave enough to handle any situation." She recited as if her mother had drilled that into both her and her brother. She knew the royal guards loved a good fan, especially to boost their pride. She wasn't sure if the Captain and his right hand could be included in that statement, but they both valued respect so she didn't think it could hurt. "Aren't the beasts more fearsome on this island?" She asked, her green eyes wide and curious as she looked up at the guards before them.
Iratus did not have time to waste dealing with strange tourists who feared the locals, not with Whetu and her crew of highly talented criminals crawling around somewhere on the island. He wanted them humiliated then hung for their crimes. This was time wasting, but yet part of his job. Innocent civilians were meant to be protected if the situation could afford it. She even if these two were an extreme inconvenience that Soren had brought upon them he would now have to deal with it. He let out a heavy sigh through his nose and put one had on his sword. "Alright. Chrysanta here is going to ask you a few questions. She better like the answers." He have them both a menacing look and then shoved Soren a little bit forward. "Since you've already met with Soren they will both be 'protecting' you until I find a lead on our criminals."
"Ready as ever." Xavier replied cheerily and patted his sides for a weapons check. Once he was confident he had his guns and knives he nodded and waited for Whetu's lead. Kain did not need to check his weapons, he knew he had them and was more focused on their destination. "Do you know where we are headed on the island? Did the map have a specific place we need to search. Because we've got beasts and harpies on one side and the royal guard on the other with a split crew. That's a lot to look out for."

my wifi is back :'D i hate to sound dramatic but that was the hardest ten or so days ive had for ages. i had no idea how dependent all my school work was on the internet until i didn't have any)
"Great." Sonal readjusted the rifle strapped over her shoulder, changing sides to get what little breeze the air offered her on her shoulders, "Let us go even closer to the active volcano." She could deal with a lot of things, but she had a feeling that a flood of magma and molten rock would have the upper hand slightly against her mortal body. At the very least, she doubted her lungs would hold up in the soot. Living in her city had given her many strengths, but the poor quality of air had plagued her mother, and her mother before her, and Sonal was one of a long line of women with a poor respiratory system. She knew she shouldn't told Whetu that before they set off, but right now, it didn't seem too important. "Have you ever been up a volcano before?"
Chrysanta knew a clever girl when she saw one, there was mischief about this one, but was fooled enough by Camilla's wide eyed innocence to assume she just didn't like guards that much, and not that she was a pirate, "We don't like to generalize the public of our empire. I cannot speak for the people of this island, but I can say with more certainty that there are very dangerous people here. Wanted people." She added, unfurling one of the wanted posters she'd brought with her and handing it to the red haired woman, "Have you seen this woman since you've been here? Or any of these people?" To the sweating boy with the curly hair, she handed another poster, before holding up the final two of Xavier and Kapoor. Despite 'not liking to generalize' Chrysanta was confident that is there was one thing that got peasants talking, it was the promise of a reward. There were some big figures on those posters.
Coran was doing his damndest to simultaneously not make any eye contact with Captain Iratus and also not look really, really suspicious. Camilla seemed to be taking over as Head Talker, which he didn't mind at all, but he did mind when the scary girl guard handed the doctor a poster of Whetu, with one heck of a number scrawled under her face. His hands shook a little tiny bit (curse this fidgeting anxiety) as he took a poster of Kain off her. It was a decent likeness, not bad at all, though they had his forehead too big. The number under his face was huge as well, but Whetu seemed to be worth more then him. He wondered if that had anything to do with the grudge between Cynwrig and Iratus he was always hearing about. "Can't say they're familiar, m'am." He squeaked. Was m'am right? Should he have used sir? Somehow, he doubted she'd appreciate that.
She got out the second map, sending Kain an annoyed look, "Yes, I am aware of all that Mr Aster; have a little faith." She was careful not to hold it up, there didn't seem to be many guards around right now, but Iratus had damn good eyesight when he was looking for trouble, so she stayed hunched down by a pile of rocks, "Sonal and Ralif went that way," she pointed at the first marked out route, "And if everything's going well, then my guess is they should be around here. We'll be taking this route, it's flatter, mainly keeps to the coast. A few years ago, there were rumors that the Hoop was stashed in this abandoned settlement, a remnant of when they tried to expand their miserable town. We'll scope it out, and then head back. Simple." She rolled it up again and tucked the map into her belt, pulling the brim of her big hat down lower.

No I feel you that would be awful, you honestly need the internet for school so much)
Camilla furrowed her brows and shifted her weight onto one hip. "No I can't say I have I'm sorry. I always remember a pretty face." She gave a suductive wink to Chrysanta. She looked over the poster again and frowned "that really is a lot of money. Now I wish we'd seen her. What did she do anyway, she must be pretty nasty to have a number like that under her picture, they all must be." She said and shifted uncomfortably. Her body language was a tell to her nerves and she managed to look generally concerned about her and her 'brother's' safety. Sometimes she wished she had gone into theater, less gore.
"Well look again. You see someone that even might possibly resemble them and you tell these guard. You're awfully sweaty boy, better get out of the heat." Heath commanded, he had no capacity to speak softly or kindly and Coran's behavior was annoying him. He hears Camilla call Whetu pretty and he shot her a glare. "She's a snake girl. She'll poison you so fast you won't know what hit you. They're all scum of our wonderful country." He spat in disgust.
"I don't believe in having faith. I don't trust faith to get my work done." Kain replied flatly, but gave Whetu his attention anyway. His eyes scanned over the map and he narrowed his eyes slightly as he listened to her give her brief plan. "Alright, as long as we avoid the main town, Camilla and Coran can only distract for so long and I swear Iratus is part blood hound."

(Yeah, it absolutely would be a pain not to have internet. Sorry for not responding earlier, didn't see that there were new replies to this. DX)
"I can safely say I haven't, and I hope that this is going to be a one time experience. I don't mind danger I can kill; a volcano does not fall under that." Ralif wiped the sweat off his brow, really a futile gesture since it returned moments later, and started up towards the volcano. His once perfectly black boots were now coated in dust and it was going to be quite the effort to get them pristine again. How irritating. "I wouldn't mind seeing it erupt once we're gone however. Molten death could only make this place and its natives more hospitable as far as I'm concerned."
Soren miraculously managed to avoid stumbling when his captain pushed him towards the two citizens, he really didn't want to be chastised for embarrassing the guard in addition to having been caught slacking off in his duties. He'd already gotten in enough trouble for one day. An apologetic smile was offered to both Coran and Camilla, reassuring in that he fully believed their story, enough to feel pity at being interrogated at least, but he couldn't speak up. Both Chrysanta and Heath outranked him, which meant his duty was to stand at attention and be silent. The latter part was more important however.

Chrysanta took the wink and ignored it, her poker face was excellent, for someone who was pretty terrible at card games. "If you see think you see them, don't engage with any of them, just find a guard. These people aren't above putting the lives of civilians at risk." She'd never tussled with any of them personally, but everyone at her garrison knew the story of how Niko got half his ear bitten off when he was on patrol and ended up perusing Cynwrig. Talk about a dirty fighter. In response to Camilla's inquiry she decided to keep to the g-rated stories, as to not startle anyone too much, "Everything under the sun. I doubt there's a crime that hasn't been committed between these four, those two in particular." She nodded to the posters she'd handed over. There were less stories about Aster that she knew, but that was probably because he left less survivors. "The empire will be a better place once these felons are off the streets."
At being directly addressed by Iratus, Coran nearly died. Not an exaggeration, his soul almost left his body. He managed to squeak out, "Yes, good idea." Before adding "Sir." hastily at the end. The other two guards looked dangerous, like they might be carrying weapons, but Iratus looked dangerous because he was a weapon. Men and women like him had certain looks in their eyes, cold and hard, and totally unyielding. It made him want to bow or salute, or something. Maybe just curl up in a ball? Mentally, he tried one of the calming techniques his father that taught him years ago, taking himself away from the situation. He wasn't standing on this awful rock, he was in a big muddy field in Egring, and Conall had just fallen into a large puddle. Good times.
Whetu decided it was too hot to annoy Kain more then necessary and headed down the path instead of saying something witty and highly inappropriate back. So far, no treasure. Just rocks, and sand. The occasional lizard. Nothing had changed from her last trip here, just so far there was less violence. So far. She tried to keep her mind focused on the task at hand, and to not think about royal guards scurrying over this place like fleas on an old dog. Every so often she would swear she could see gold catch the side of her eye, or the outline of Iratus' figure, but she knew it was nothing but her paranoia, and kept going. Thankfully, the way the rocks had formed and the position of the sun, they were mainly in shade, all three of them blending in like they were born for it. Maybe people like them were. "I wonder if Sonal and Ralif have gotten a nice, shady path? Probably not. Can you imagine those two in the middle of a desert?" She snickered.
She laughed at that, taken aback by the little show of humor, "You are not as dead inside as you first appear, you know. Maybe you should give up crime and become a minstrel." She liked minstrels, well, the good ones, but they had the bad habit of getting drunk, where she came from, and starting fights. Yes, this was more entertaining as a whole, but sometime you didn't want to fight, you just wanted a show. Plus, Sonal couldn't join in in most of them, because she had to get her little sisters away from the fray. "Do you play any instruments? We could all throw pennies at you. Or fruit, if you aren't that good." The path got narrower, and started winding, much to her chagrin. Narrow paths were not built with women like Sonal in mind.
sorry for bad posts :uuuu )

"Even murder?" Camilla asked Chrysanta, genuinely curious. She had her assumptions of course, she wouldn't put it past Kain or Ralif for sure, Whetu she liked better so she was biased and Sonal was a possibility. She didn't think Xavier had it in him to actively end someone's life unless his bullets did in a fight. "Have you ever caught any of them? I'm afraid my brother and I haven't experienced many criminals first hand, although once someone tried to steal our sheep." She said with a thoughtful twist of the end of the auburn braid she wore her hair in. She wondered what Chrysanta's personal story was, she seemed young and in a male dominated field, which Camilla could relate to and respect. She also seemed way too serious which Camilla could not relate to, but with a leader like Iratus she supposed the fun could be sucked out of anyone.
Iratus narrowed his eyes further at Coran, making them two thin cracks which on anyone else would look silly, but on Heath it was somehow more startling. He was sizing the kid up, suspicious as ever. He shoved him out of the sunny spot more towards the shade. "Do you have ears? Move. Your. Feet." He snapped. It was for Coran's well being, sure, but Iratus managed to make any nice gesture aggressive and startling. "What's your name kid. You're more skiddish than a rat." He commented, but wasn't making any accusations. Yet. Luckily for Coran, currently Iratus saw him as having absolutely zero value, which meant he was the least likely candidate to be chosen for Whetu's crew and therefore not an immediate suspect.
Xavier laughed at the thought and rubbed his brow with the back of his hand. "No, the cape alone must be suffocating and Sonal's attitude will finish Ralif off. Which one will strangle the other first?" He inquired. Frankly Xavier had no problems with anyone on the ship, but he felt that the rest of them could be at each other throats at any moment. "What do you think Camilla and Coran are up to?" He glanced over his shoulder in paranoia only to turn around and receive a slap in the face from a branch. Being tall did not pay off in the jungle. Kain moved with ease, somehow managing to avoid all the plants Xavier ran into and only sweat minimally. He was quiet, his mouth set in a line, but he was thinking.

happy holidays everyone c: it's the most wonderful time of the year :D love how Iratus AGGRESSIVELY CARES for tourists)
"Most definitely. When we apprehend these criminals, most of them will be tried before the deputy Governor of the Provence for murder, and the others as accessories to murder. Their stories aren't linked, they're just bad people who've been getting away with what they do for too long." Chrysanta had no sympathy for any of the criminals they'd be tracking, she'd heard enough stories of blood and bone to last her a life time. Granted, there wasn't a whole lot of proof for the murder cases, but they were the trickiest ones of all. You know, cause the victim's dead. The punishment in Cleorus for murder was still public execution, as it was for treason, and the golden girl had zero doubts that Cynwrig's gang would swing when they were caught. "We had Whetu Cynwrig once, several years ago and she was tried for murder, theft, destruction of evidence and major arson. Her sentence was hanging, but before that she was put under the whip for several days. Unfortunately during that time period, she escaped, killing three guards in the process." She narrowed her eyes at the memory, she'd only been a cadet back then, but everyone was told about what had happened. After the beating she'd been given, that woman shouldn't have been able to move let alone escape with her tail between her legs. She had lowered her voice considerably now, ever aware of her captain's presence. He didn't really like hearing about the one that got away.
Being shoved by a man who could kill you with a glare is enough to put a bit of fear into just about anyone, so Coran wasn't too hard on himself when he visibly flinched away. At least, when it happened. Afterwards he kicked himself, mentally, black and blue for looking so damn shifty, but honestly? It couldn't have been helped. He was just glad he wasn't crying. "C-conall, sir." There was no way he was giving this man his real name (he allowed himself a moment of pride for thinking like a pirate), but he probably shouldn't have picked a name so close to home, "Conall Fitzgerald." The good thing about Egring having less then 500 people was that it he knew what the most common surname was off the top of his name, and if Iratus or any of his lackeys went looking for a Fitzgerald, they'd been looking through family trees for the rest of their lives. That family bred like rabbits. They have relations in Salzben, Manpere, he wouldn't be surprised if there was a Fitzgerald in Kydos. "A-and my sister's Dymphna." He gave Camilla his mother's name without thinking, it wasn't as common, but hopefully Camilla wouldn't mind
"I can see Sonal going for Ralif, but I imagine getting a hold on him would be like plucking a fish out of a stream." She commented, then paused, thought, and carried on, "Actually, Sonal's quite good at that. But if he goes for her then he should start with a knife. Hitting our large seasick friend is like hitting as large seasick wall." Friendly sparring was key in any sailor's relationship, even if that sparring was commonly drunken and not really all that friendly. Whetu and Sonal had had their fair share of scraps, and though the captain valued brain over brawn any day, she'd had her nose broken enough times by now to appreciate toned biceps when she saw them. She didn't see the branch hit Xavier, just heard the whoosh followed by the thwack and then the yelp of pain. She snickered, shoulders bouncing as they often did, with laughter, "First the mermaids, now the trees. This ecosystem can't keep it's hands off of you, Xavier." She noticed Kain was being quiet, but she'd only be worried if he wasn't being quiet, so left him to his brooding.

(Ugh I love the holidays! <3 everything is pretty and the weather doesn't bother me! How have you been friend it's been a while! Yes everything is aggression and anger with this man I don't think his mother held him enough)
Camilla was glad all they knew about the group was that they were traveling together, not much of their plans as far as she could tell. Her stomach clenched a little at the mention of any of her friend hanging, they were all much to young to did and that rose the stakes for sure. She gave a curt nod though, her eyebrows furrowed in a look of frustrated agreement. "Those who think they're above the law baffle me. Who can just decide they're immune to the structure that holds society together, it's a little barbaric if you ask me." She commented and stuck her nose up at the thought. Unfortunately it was difficult to hear the next part of the conversation, she hadn't know what Whetu had endured when she was caught. It made her angry, but she pushed it down inside and masked her true emotions, they were in a snakes den and she refused to be the cause of her and Coran's demise. She swallowed a little and aimed her disgust at a different part of the story, since she didn't think Chrysanta would appreciate her disagreement with torture. "She killed three guard? How awful." She managed to choke out.
"Conall and Dymphna Fitzgerald, eh?" Iratus crossed his muscular arms over his chest. "What brings two citizens of Engring here? Granted your home isn't very exciting, but Kydos is no vacation spot." Iratus questioned, his forehead creased from scowling. He was an attractive man, but the constant expression of contempt plastered on his face didn't make him look too approachable. He turned over his shoulder and motioned for a guard who was at his side obediently in moments, "get this kid some water before he faints." He instructed and the soldier ran off quickly. Soldier and civilians alike constantly sought his approval, even getting a glass of water was enough to try and show the Captain they weren't totally useless.
"Yeah he's shifty. I'd like to see under that mask. I wonder if he's cute." Xavier grinned broadly, his gold eyes bright and playful. "My money would be on Sonal though. I'm pretty sure even if he stabbed her it would be like poking a bear with a needle. Not so effective." He dodged the next branch and swatted a fly from his face. "I think this environment is out to get me. It got a taste of this sweet blood and it can't resist me now. It happens." He shrugged in a 'what can you do' manner as if these things had happened to him before. "It's not my fault I'm irresistible. Have you seen me?" He teased.

Well, it hasn't been great really. Been under a lot of pressure lately. We've lost a family member, and though I'm not too upset, my dads not feeling the Christmas mood this year. I'm hoping the closer we get to Christmas the brighter things will look c:' What he needs is a surrogate mother to love and nurture him. Soren and Chrysanta need proper role models after all Btw what does he look like??? Not saying u need to type up two paragraphs it's just I got a free day tomorrow and I want to draw ^^' )
"They were fine soilders, and we felt the loss of them dearly. I know many people who'll celebrate when they see that woman hung high across the city." She said it with a cold fire, not a hint of uncertainty about her, her young face set in steel. The years training under Iratus' tutelage had changed her, but it hadn't redefined her. She was always dauntless, always uncompromising. Under his wing, she'd simply gained aim. The girl who felt she would revel in justified death was the same girl who picked strawberries off of tarts so she could save them to the end, the same girl who meowed back at cats when she was alone. Chrysanta spent so much time trying to purge the world of undesirable fanatics that she hadn't noticed she was well on the way to becoming one. "But don't fear!" She realised suddenly, not wanting to scare the young peasant lady, "You're well protected as long as we're here." She tried a small smile then, and her face felt stiff to move.
"Better weather?" He shrugged with a very nervous grin, hoping to enlist any tiny scrap of good humour this man possessed. He was good looking, admittedly, but so was a ten foot tall man eating dragon with bronze teeth and leathery wings. Coran would've preferred the dragon. Although they couldn't have been gone for more then an hour, he felt himself missing more familiar faces, faces that achieved beauty through grace and approachability instead of control and arrogance. "We're here with a suitor actually," suddenly embarrassed, he cleared his throat, "Who's got a bit of a taste for the dangerous." He gave a nervous giggle, using hand gestures as an excuse not to meet his eyes, "It's not the most romantic town, but hey, it's different!" His attempt at easy going felt flat and though he was glad for the glass of water that got handed to him, "Oh, t-thank you." He didn't drink any. It felt a bit awkward, just holding it, but rule number one he'd learnt on the sea - don't eat anything from someone you don't trust.
"If I'm honest, I'd rather fight the bear." Wheth dusted sand off her trouser leg, "'least the bear knows when to quit." That was pretty rich coming from the Woman Without a Plan but she felt it necessary to express concern about the crew member she'd known the longest. Only when she wasn't here, however. When she was present, she'd have to look for compliments elsewhere. "Would you rather fight two Ralifs, or a bear?" Two ralifs were being offered because one wasn't exactly a match for a BEAR. Maybe a large cat, but not a bear. At Xavier's self praise she played along, this was her favourite kind of back and forthing after all. Nearly had her forgetting about the fact that Heath Iratus was somewhere within grasp and his head was pressed against the barrel of her gun, "It took me three days but yes, eventually I saw all of you." She grinned, referring to his height.
Sonal + the 'if u see me fighting a grizzly, help the bear' meme)

(Yes!! I'm so jealous I could die like I know it's not the original cast but stillll)
Camilla was 95% certain the girl was trying out a smile, either than or a twisted grimace, but she decided to react as if it was a smile. "Thank you, truly for what you do. There isn't much crime in Engring, but we must be cautious and if my brother and I ever wish to move to the grand city we will feel better under the guards protection." She said and smiled charmingly back. She felt bad then, her father had raised her not to hurt others, part of why she had chosen to be a healer. Chrysanta likely had a similar care for people and justice to where she saw things in black in white. Unfortunately Camilla had learned to see in color and she knew there was so much more to people's motivations and actions then good or evil.
Unfortunately for Coran, Heath had no sense of humor and if he did it was cynical humor, not jokes about the weather of an uninhabitable island. "The weather here is far from desirable." He said dryly and nodded slowly. Coran's story was reasonable, people who loved adrenaline came here for the thrill certainly. "You two didn't join in a hunt?" He asked, but he wasn't surprised in the slightest when he looked them over, Camilla didn't look like she liked to get her hands dirty and Coran looked fragile.
Kain snorted in response to the Bear jokes, it was hard to tell if he was amused or just being a jerk, probably both. Xavier shrugged both wouldn't be fun, I'd say two Ralif's they'd go down easier than the bear, I'd probably only need to shoot them four times at most. A bear I'd be lucky to get four shots off before getting mauled." He shrugged. He laughed heartily at her comment, "Yes I'm tall I know. I think the first time I saw you I nearly missed you entirely." He teased since she was much shorter.
(Lame posts sorry!)

Goodness guys sorry I wasn't here this morning, was totally ready to rp a bunch when Win posted and I messed up. My bad. I'll try to be more active from here on in. DX Sorry about all that's going on Sappho, I really hope things get better for you soon! Let me know if there's anything I can do to help. Also laughing at all the Ralif bashing going on.)
Soren, behind Heath thankfully, gave a remarkably warm smile to Coran. It was genuine and unforced, not the type that Chrysanta was attempting to give to Camilla. It would be gone in a heartbeat were either of his superiors to turn around, a flash of white so quickly vanishing that it might never have been there in the first place, but hopefully it would do something for the poor boy being interrogated. The kid looked like he was just seconds away from wetting himself. Maybe it would help him out just a bit to have a handsome face who clearly trusted him.
(Would it be alright if I brought in Kerro now? Whetu's group could happen upon a little scene with him.)
Ralif stopped dead in his tracks, turning around to look at Sonal with his one good eye. There was no anger in it, not even the annoyance he'd displayed during their trek so far, no, this was the look of a man deep in thought. Those thoughts just so happened to be whether or not he could get away with shoving Sonal off of the path or if a revolver shot and a body falling down a mountain would draw too much untoward attention to himself. Physically imposing he may not have been, but that didn't mean he wasn't dangerous in his own right. "You know, back home, I've heard the tale of a man who had his mouth sewn shut for sedition. It may be beyond you, but think for a moment how that might feel." He turned back to the path then, wondering the chances for Sonal to make it back down the mountain without a map.

Heath Iratus = aggressive ken barbie doll seeing Hamilton live on stage would be incredible!!! tell ur friend im very jealous ~~~~
hey happy!! it's nice to see you again! Sure, bring Kerro in c: it'll be interesting.)
Chrysanta's mood picked up slightly at the use of 'grand' when talking about her city. Yes, it was flawed, she'd lived on the bread line enough years to know that, but it was still a magnificent place. She couldn't fathom why anyone would want to live anywhere else. "Next time you travel, you should stay on the main land. She gestured east with her shoulder, as if the cliffs and peaks of her city could be seen from here, "There's a lot more to do, and you might find the locals more hospitable." Maybe it was just the thought of them travelling, or maybe it was just a whim, but Chrysanta peered around Camilla's shoulder, at the docks. She couldn't see anything out of the ordinary, at first. There was the blue sky, the green ocean, a few skeleton ships that looked like they hadn't sailed anywhere in years, and then, of course, the Royal Guard ship, which dwarfed anything in sight. "Did you dock in the harbor?" She frowned, "Where's your boat?"
"Oh, em, no, sir. I'm afraid we wouldn't be much use in dangerous situations." Gods above, the questions never stopped with this guy! Was his mind just constantly wired in to think he was always in an interrogation? He'd heard many words used to describe Heath in the past, few of them friendly, but 'nosy' was a new one. The man must be starved for gossip, and his human need for it was leaking into his work. Or at least, that was Coran's theory. But he wasn't thinking very clearly at the moment. "We'd be more of a hindrance then hunters out there, so we all decided it might just be more fun if we found something to do in town." The other guard, the one with the scar up from his lip, had just smiled at him, and Coran, despite himself, felt a little more at ease. He gave his own, small, watery smile back, still clutching the drink of water, glad it was cool in his hands.
That was enough to get Whetu to look over her shoulder, "Hey, I am not small. I'll have you know I'm notably tall for a lady. I just happened to be surrounded by some of the lankiest beanpoles on the seas." When she got her hands on that Hoop, the first thing she was buying was boots with a higher heel. There was no room for small captains in the pirates business, they were too open to ridicule. The path skirted violently to the left, and waves jutted up and over it occasionally, as she kept her eyes on the path then, falling over would be incredibly undignified. Also she was still sore from where she'd fallen when Coran did his damndest to topple the boat. "Talk like that you be seen as treason in some countries, Xavier. I could have your hands for such blasphemy." She warned, voice dripping in sarcasm. Not about the cutting off the hands bit, she had done that once. It was only the left, and that guy was really asking for it, but it wasn't for treason, he was just a jerk.
"Just suggesting alternate career paths. You might be very good at it." She turned sideways now, oblivious to Ralif's murderous thoughts. If she was getting down this path, walled by high stone on either side, she'd be doing it with her profile leading the way. "It would make the long nights at sea more fun, if we had someone who could sing." She was more used to the drunken singing from taverns than any wail from an actual musician. There's only so many time you can hear the same five sea shanties before you get a little bored. Plus, Sonal already wasn't good with words, and when they were slurred and basically just yelled, it got a lot more difficult. "You could train that dog to do something. Have a travelling act."

(Hahaha literally thought he's like a big Russian villain from a rocky movie or something, maybe even captain America but that's too good for him Omg Coran and Camilla are screwed now)
Camilla's heart skipped a best. No two beats. Three. She went into full on cardiac arrest because they didn't have a damn boat in that harbor. It took everything in her to remain calm at the question and keep a casual expression. "Our ship? Why it's just about the only one out there, it's got some blue trim but the pants chipping so they resally need to work on that, it looks like a dingy though in comparison to your vessel-" she cut herself off as she turned on a heal to point it out. Her hand in the sir for a moment, searching for the ship, then her eyes widened and she let the panic she was feeling take over. She grabbed Chrysanta's arm as if she was shocked and possibly ready to faint from the trauma, but she was careful not to overdo the dramatics. "Where's our ship?? God it was there earlier this morning, Conall and I checked in on the captain!" She gasped out.
Iratus avoided rolling his eyes at the small pathetic man. He didn't see how he would be much use for anything, but it would be unprofessional to tell a civilian that, especially unprovoked to a kid who was dehydrated. "Yes. It is better not to distract those at work." The Captain agreed, teeth gritted and it was obvious he was not solely referring to the hunting situation, since all these two had done since they got there had been distract his soldiers from the task at hand. Heath hated pointless distractions especially to an important mission, so when he got part of Chrysanta's question to the girl he raised a brow and looked at Coran expectantly. He was proud of his second for being so observant and critical behind a mask of compliance to civilian needs, exactly what he had taught her. Maybe she would get praise later, but she shouldn't count on it from him.
(Whetu is so savage I love it lol) Xavier grinned at her back and laughed a little. "Oh yes, I'm sorry my fearless leader, I sometimes forget that shorter than me doesn't necessarily equal short in general." He apologized jokingly and avoided tripping on a rock that was sticking from the path. He was pretty sure it had been set there with the only purpose to trip him, but he had avoided it which was some sort of a feat that he had even seen the object. "Hey, that's why I chose you. A sense of humor and sarcasm to match mine is important in a captain. I hate the serious ones." He rolled his eyes, but there was certainly something more there if one was willing to look. He had his hands be threatened to be cut off before, an eye stabbed out, been beat for moping the deck wrong and beat for doing it right. Since a child he had served for the worst of men, one that kept him up feeling sick at night if he thought too much about it, when he finally got away he was scared to go back into the same cycle with whoever he sailed with. But Whetu was different, he had known that the moment he saw her, not any less aggressive and wild, but she wasn't aggressive to those who were her crew and did well for her, he didn't think he had ever met a captain like her. Which was why, at the end of the day, he had immense amount of respect and admiration for the woman. He wouldn't tell her that though, the woman's head was big enough.

camilla is such a good actor i love her )
Theft was common in all major cities, but those thefts normally involved either food or jewelry. A boat was another thing. A boat on this island in particular, was another thing yet again. One half of her went into automatics, she'd dealt with thieves a dozen times before. Another part of her was a little suspicious. Lose a boat? It being stolen was only one option, but she highly doubted that the captain would've sailed off without his customers, these cruises tended to be paid for after. A part of her mind ticked over; could this be the work of the crew they were after? But why would they steal a boat when they already had one? If this girl was telling the truth, it wouldn't have been much to steal, and what would be the point? Plus, only hardy captains tended to risk sailing out to Kydos, there were rumors of mermaids after all, and no self respecting captain went down without a fight. "Well, this is the only dock on the island. Are you sure you didn't make arrangements with him to meet elsewhere?" Unlikely, but Chrysanta didn't want to rule anything out right now. The girl's hand was warm on Chrysanta's arm, but not as soft as she would've guessed. Working girl? From Egring who could afford a jaunt across the world?
If Camilla's heart stopped, Coran's heart shriveled up and died. In irony, their boat was right there, but it was a little wooden dinghy they'd used to get from the ship to land. There was no way these guards would believe they'd sailed here in a row boat, especially since their story hadn't mentioned stopping anywhere before this. Camilla, Gods bless her soul, scarcely missed a beat, but the guards looked borderline suspicious now and he felt his will to live curl up in a ball. He'd seen some scary things in his time, but a raised brow from the captain of the guard was top of the light right now, and his words dried up on his tongue. "Um, that's-" he had no idea what to say, no idea what to do, and pushed his glasses back up his face in a search for words, "Wow, I mean, um..." He caught Camilla's wide green eyes and saw his own panic reflected back at him, "What now?" She grabbed the guard, but he refrained form that himself. Somehow, he didn't think that falling onto Iratus like a damsel in distress would get him anything but a broken tooth.
"Why you chose me?" She was incredulous, eyebrows raised, mouth wide open, "Excuse me buddy boy, you think you could slip that in past the compliments?" Whetu pointed at herself, turned back halfway to face the men behind her, "I handpicked this crew myself. You're lucky to be a member of this ship, son. I spared no expense - The best fighters, thinkers, and Coran. Your confidence can't fool me, this is the bets thing that's ever happened to you." She teased, grin back in place. In truth, she really had picked the best she could find, and Xavier was the best sharpshooter, but ti was more then that. She needed people who would work as a team, and though some were frostier then others, people like Xavier were vital to the build up of a good crew. The guy got along with just about everyone, and she valued that as equally as she valued his skill with a pistol. When she'd thought he'd died, it had been a blow, and it had surprised her. It had been a while since she'd rolled with people she genuinely cared about.
