"If someone's going to end up being a minstrel it had best be the navigator." Ralif's tone was still flat as they made their way to the volcano, the thief tugging on his collar with his free hand. Gods, it was far too hot up here. If he had to draw his gun he'd have to be careful to not have it go flying, his gloves soaked with sweat as they were. "The kid's probably got the best shot out of all of us, plus it'd be good to have him with some sort of skill. Not like we can teach him how to fight." The more and more time he spent with this crew, the more he sympathized with Kain. Perhaps taking a route of silence and unapproachability would save his sanity, he was already contemplating firing his pistol off near both his ears to save himself from ever hearing anyone speak again. Then again, maybe it'd just take some time for his ego to flatten out and his crewmates to grow on him.
Soren's expression went from a smile to one of grim thought, brows furrowed and lips slightly pursed as he looked out on the harbor, free from any ship these two could've taken in. "Captain. If I may?" He was asking permission to speak, but only as a formality. "It's possible these two were tricked by a pirate, our 'friends' may even have this as part of the plan." His tone was free from the lightheartedness he'd possessed when speaking to Camilla and Coran, all business now as he tried to pin down those they were hunting. Heart of gold or no, he was stilly a guard. "A boat brings in those wealthy enough to afford the trip, disappears, pirates rob and ransom these two for a hefty sum. Kydos is the perfect place to do that, the locals wouldn't care and normally we don't have a presence." He paused for the briefest of moments, eyes glancing over the two civilians. "If we're lucky and we haven't been spotted with these two, we could set a trap of our own."
Interrupting the banter between Whetu and Xavier a loud shot, clearly the retort of some large caliber revolver, rang out from startlingly near their position. Muffled yelling and oaths could be heard through the tree-line, some sort of scuffle perhaps? Just a few short steps would reveal an almost comical scene, though one with a certainly dire edge to it. A small clearing, really only a patch that had a few less jungle trees than the rest of the place, held two men in it. One was a rough, brigand looking sort, the kind of man you'd see on a wanted poster or serving some rough and cruel pirate captain. In his weatherbeaten hands was a large net. His back was turned to the crew, his focus across the clearing on a soft looking creature holding a decidedly non-soft looking revolver. "I-I told you! S-stay back!" Despite being in the relative position of power, the one holding the gun and all, his hands were shaking so awfully it'd be a wonder if he could hit anything. "C-clothing Selkies a-aren't!"

it's so close to christmas im gonna die) "But a big part of performing is not being scared of a crowd. You do not seem shy." Her long hair had snagged on a sharp rock face behind her and, muttering darkly, she retreated, unhooked her braid, and began again, rubbing her scalp where it'd been pulled. She'd thought about cutting her hair a million times in the past - easier to wash and maintain, harder to hold in a fight. But she was surprisingly sentimental over it, and for once, let her emotions out weight her practicality. The narrow path looked like it was only going to get narrower, so she hefted her pistol off of her shoulders and held it over her head, not wanting it to be damaged against the rocks, "How far does the map say is left?", She asked, glancing back momentarily. Sonal wasn't one to typically complain, but this mission was testing her patience. Chrysanta nodded, turning her gaze to her peer, "That's a good point. A cruise ship wouldn't have been noted on, but if they knew we were here, they would've had to have picked a different boat." Had the pirates known ahead of time they'd be here? The plan had been that they would see the ship when they came to dock, and either start a fight and be arrested or run, and be pursued by the fastest ship in their fleet. Maybe their was a mole in the guards ranks. That thought made the paladin's face harden faintly, traitors were not tolerated under Iratus' rule. Meanwhile Coran's panic had gone from really quite bad to really very bad. This was not good, no, no, nope. Where would the others be by now? They had no way of communicating with any of them, and the only crew member for certain on the ship was Conall, for the Gods' sake. How long before these guards thought it was strange that Camilla and Coran hadn't given a name of either their suitor or his hunting party? He suddenly, desperately, wished he had some kind of weapon, anything, really. Whetu's sense had, over the years, adapted to certain sounds, in the way any pirate worth their salt would. For instance, a gun shot meant duck, regardless of where you were or what you were doing. So she did, crouching down, nearly flattening herself against the ground. She removed her hat, and peeked around. No, no royal guards (she was a little disappointed at that, if she was honest) but her hammering heart told her she hadn't imagined it, and a glance back at Xavier and Kain told her no one was injured, "Hunting party?" She whispered, one eyebrow cocked. It wouldn't be unusual, but her mind suddenly leapt to their absent members. Sonal and Ralif should be too far away for their fight to be heard, but she had no clue where Camilla and Coran actually were, and all it would take would be one gunshot to put either of them down. At the sound of voices, she turned left, and gently pulled some of the brittle bushes apart, looking into a clearing. Taking it in, Whetu inhaled sharply, a strange glint lighting up her eye. A selkie? No way. crazy captain vs crazy captain :vvvv

(Haha thanks!! Camilla does her best she's very dramatic so that helps)
Iratus seemed genuinely just annoyed he was taking time to deal with these two and that only increased his suspicions of their story. A boat didn't just slip away under ones nose and especially not if there was money to be made from these civilians still. He crossed his beefy arms over his chest in thought, his steel eyes still cast down at the two innocent looking civilians. "We still aren't sure as to why they're here in the first place, other than that they're in search of something. I don't think they would pack up and disappear early if they haven't found it." He replied with a scowl, the whole situation was infuriating. Luckily he trusted his second and Soren to strategies and try to figure things out with him, which was just about the only time he wasn't snapping at them. "If they did plan to ransom the two off then they're still here somewhere and they're hiding their ship off shore possibly. We need to figure out where they are either way." He sighed and looked back at Camilla who was still gripping Chrysanta's arm her perfect lips in a pout like she might cry from the stress of the situation, and Coran who looked even worse so much that Heath grimaced in a very judgmental way. "Alright, we need to find your fiancé, which one of you is married to him and what party is he with?" He questioned.
Xavier laughed in a way where he threw his head back and put a hand over his chest. "Alright alright, that may have been a bit arrogant. I may or may not have been thrilled to join your crew." He rolled his eyes dramatically, but truthfully she was right. He knew he was a good shot, but so were a lot of people. It felt good to be chosen and worthy of joining a great captain, he was usually written off as an irresponsible goofball or got caught up in scumbag crews. He pulled his gun at the sound of a shot going off in the woods. He glanced at the other two to make sure they heard and saw Whetu down low and Kain with a weapon drawn as well behind a tree. Kain gave a nod and pointed ahead to where he thought the shot had likely come from, his eyes focused and serious, even Xavier had quieted down. Kain waited for her lead then walked silently behind her, almost like a shadow has he somehow managed to avoid any twigs or extra crunchy leaves. "A selkie?" He murmured, finding the situation odd to say the least. Xavier had to go slower to be more careful, but he was behind the two quickly and looming over them. "We should do something. He's just a little guy." Xavier whispered.
(I LOVE THIS DRAWING WOW ITS THEM AND ITS SO WELL DONE)

A name, Coran could conjure on the spot. In fact, he'd conjured two, and a surname, which wasn't bad. But he might've reached his limit. Also, what party? What did that mean?! He didn't know anything about hunting, was Heath expecting a number or a company name? They all just stood there in relative silence before the navigator realised that something just had to be said, "Um, he's with Long Shore Hunting Expeditions, though I don't know the name of the man who runs it." For all those stories he'd read, Coran couldn't think of a single name, he'd couldn't just choose people he knew, most of them were wanted at this very moment, and he was named after his dad, so that wasn't much help at all. "And our friend's name is Conall- No! Wait! I'm Conall!" His eyes widened and he tried to play it off with a shaky grin and hollow laugh, "Wow it is hot out here! I'm losing my mind!" He weakly fanned himself with one hand, his laugh trailing off thinly. It was a sad day for pseudonyms everywhere, "His name is Ralif," It was a big gamble, odds were that man was wanted too, but they hadn't mentioned him earlier, "And he's sort of a joint fiancé, really. It's a... traditional Egring... thing." Maybe not the smartest thing to say, but his mind had officially fried when he realised neither Camilla nor himself had engagement rings on. Chrysanta, despite hardened years on the streets, couldn't help her eyebrows raising a little at the story, and felt the sun a lot hotter on her face. Pluid Bria was a strange country. Slowly, she tried to get back on track, "We'll have to contact the hunting party somehow, but it could be a while. There are few message outposts in the desert of this place."
"He's a little guy worth a whole lot." She didn't even try to hide the excitement in her whisper, "That's a selkie! A real selkie! I've never seen a live one before." There was a huge grin on her face, teeth bared in anticipation. "And really, most of the dead ones I've seen are fakes too." Her mother's voice nagged at the back of her mind, If you don't stand up for the little guys, no one will, ya big stupid eejet. Her mother was not known for subtly. But the message got across from the access of her memories and she swallowed greed. For now. "But yes, I agree. Though chances are, seeing how nervous he is, he'd shot us too. We gotta be diplomatic. If we startle him, he'll either fire or get to the water." They weren't that far from the shore, and once a selkie was submerged, that was that. There was no catching them again. "Ok, Kain, you go left, Xavier, you go right. We come in from opposite sides of the clearing, and talk that nice gentleman into leaving. And if he doesn't, we hit him with something." She had her cutlass at her belt, and drew it quietly, "No guns, the pair of you. We're lucky that gunshot didn't send people running as it is." Chances were this guy was going solo, greed tended to keep people separate when they were hunting prizes, but if he did have a gang, they'd have to move faster then they'd first planned.

(That fight scene is gorgeous Sappho! ^_^)
"There is quite the difference between holding a conversation and performing in front of a crowd, though I'm finding them more and more to be the same. Annoying." Ralif was growing more irritable by the second, the sun and heat boiling whatever good humor the man may have once possessed. He couldn't get off this blasted rock soon enough. "How much is left? Hm. The map has no scale, but it looks only a short ways. We're nearing the end of our journey at this point." One hand on the map, one hand blocking the sun, he tried to look past Sonal-not an easy task-to see if he could make out any landmarks from the map but had no such luck. "At least coming down's gonna be easier than this."
Soren's face contorted a bit at "Conall's" sudden panic. Brows furrowing, lips pursing, all the markings of a man growing suspicious. It was precisely what they didn't need from the guard they'd first begun talking to. "Joint fiancé...?" He shook his head, auburn locks dancing to either side, but didn't say another word upon Chrysanta moving on. Maybe this kid was just the type to have his nerves fried at the littlest thing and being questioned by the captain and paladin was, well, hardly a little thing. An ordeal might be the best way to describe it. Add that stress to the heat and it didn't seem that impossible for the boy in front of him to have lost any semblance of rational thought. "Yes, you both should probably stay under the wing of at least one of us until we can get a hold of him."
The standoff didn't seem to be changing anytime soon, the selkie's hands only just managing to keep a hold of the revolver. An empty holster on the hip of the man holding the net indicated that his quarry's survival skills might not be entirely lacking, life or death situation aside. "N-net... d-down..." Kerro swallowed hard, the lump catching in his throat. Oh gods, why did he have to come to this stupid island? People were here, actual people! The kind that hunted selkies for food or clothes or whatever else they did! His sense of direction was as helpful as a mop in a rainstorm and once again it had gotten him in trouble, problem was there wasn't anybody to bail him out this time. "I will... again shoot..." With his finger in the trigger guard and hands rattling around like he'd seen a ghost, it was a wonder the selkie hadn't already done so by accident again. The man with a net made no move, the sneer on his face etched into his features and knuckles gone pale from gripping the net. As long as he threw it when his quarry didn't have the gun actually on him, he was as good as gold. A lot of gold with how much a live selkie would get him.

ty!!) Sonal barely constrained a sarcastic 'ohhhhh' at his barbed comment, and satisfied herself with a hidden grin. This must be how Whetu felt talking to anyone ever. The pirate was beginning to see the appeal. "With a bit of luck, maybe the guards will have gone on by then." She thought out loud, "Though I doubt it. Iratus probably wouldn't want to leave until he has Whetu's neck between his hands. And likewise." She sighed. So much violence. It didn't bother her, it just got a bit boring after a while. People either a) avoided her in a fight or just went straight for her, seeing her size as a challenge. During her last few brawls she'd found that if she stood close to say a window, or a ledge, she could simply pick people up and throw them over. "I just hope this doesn't mean they're tailing us for the rest of the trip." Splitting up was not part of the original plan, Heath had wanted his second in command and a few others there when they confronted the pirates, and Soren was an obvious choice. Good fighter, quick thinker, loyal. She didn't want to insult any of her fellow guards, but some weren't quite as competent as her rusty haired friend was. They were hive minds, order followers, which every army needed, but it made free thinking men in desperately short supply. "If the pirates have stolen that ship their number of getaway locations is limited. It's not built for long over sea jaunts, and most of the islands around here are more just piles of stone then anything. They've probably set sail back to the main land." But why? If their source was correct, they'd just left that area. Was the double back a trick? They'd only face a higher concentration of guards there. Coming out as quickly as she dared behind the man with the net, Whetu raised her hands in what would have been a calming gesture, had she not got her cutlass in one hand and her flintlock pistol on her hip, "Hate to interrupt, I really do-" She spoke clearly and smoothly, as if there was nowhere she'd rather be, though her heart was thumbing the way it did when it sensed something exciting coming, "I was just passing through, and I couldn't help but overhear everything that was going on." She was standing right beside the net man, inwardly wishing she had her black greatcoat on. It made things like this so much cooler. To the human, she grinned, "Hi, I'm Whetu Cynwrig. I don't know you, but judging by the gun, the net, and that evil look in your eye, you're a fellow cutthroat. So are my friends." She indicated to her men, glad they were tall and intimidating. Turning to the selkie, she tilted her head, "And you, my curious little fellow, have a name too, I presume?"

Camilla was basically having an out of body experience at this point, where her astral projected self slapped Coran. Joint fiancé??! We are supposed to be siblings, gods! she thought to herself and regretted not answering the question instead, but she didn't want to seem suspicious by being the only one to produce most answers. "We like to share." Camilla batted her eyes, but it was difficult to flirt over something like that. She waved a dismissive hand and shook her head. "I don't know, he said it was manly stuff and neither of us needed to worry about it, he went off with a tough looking crowd. I just figured I deserve to relax a little to, not worry about where he is and have a good time for myself. But look how well that worked out." She sighed heavily. She didn't really enjoy playing a damsel or conforming to gender rolls, but despite Chrysanta looking like a strong woman, men usually were more comfortable with her act when they were her target of manipulation. "How long do you think it will take?" She asked, but sounded more concerned about the situation being handled then the ordeal taking up her time.
Iratus made a face as Coran squirmed, he was used to people being nervous around his questioning and combined with the heat despite being a very suspicious man, he didn't think Coran looked particularly conniving. He decided to give them a narrowed eyed glare to show them he wasn't messing around and didn't trust them, but he would move on and give them the benefit of the doubt, which wasn't usual for him either. "Ralif you say?" He questioned to confirm the boy got the name right this time. "Does this man have a last name? Did he make the hunting arrangements before the island, or choose an outpost and party to work with upon arriving?" He continued to ask them important details. Since the incident was likely connected with is pirates he was willing to put in a little more time before leaving them with a guard and setting off to find Whetu.
"I won't shoot it, but he doesn't know that." Xavier grinned and split off to loop around the right. Along the way he found a large club shaped stick, which he decided would be a good something to hit the hunter with. He was glad Whetu wanted to step in, usually people just let this sort of thing slide under their radar since people made cash where they could. But Xavier refused to take part or stand by with people being sold, whether or not they were fully human. Kain groaned under his breath, this was not a distraction they needed when they already were avoiding attention and what would the do with it? If not sell it than adopt it? Seemed ridiculous to him, but he wasn't in charge so he took to the left and silently crept into place to wait for Whetu's lead. If they weren't careful the little idiot would shoot them by mistake. When all of them stepped out and Whetu started talking it always interested Kain how she could be both charismatic and intimidating upon first meeting. He could only manage one of those things and it was certainly prevalent currently is icey eyes could cut anyone just by looking at them and his gaze moved from the man to the selkie. Xavier though taller looked more energetic, but still startling with that big stick in his hand and no smile on his face.

CHRISTMAS EVE EVE thanks!! I was messing around with the hue toggle and it went all red which is n i c e and it fit the mood rlly well so I kept it c:' Love how Camilla HATES GENDER ROLES but isn't afraid to EXPLOIT THEM FOR HER ADVANTAGE. a positive role model)
"Well, from what I know of the hunting parties, they don't risk being out after sunset, so your," it was unusual using 'your' as a plural, "Suitor may not be back for at least two hours. If we can contact the party's main office, we might be able to find their route, and intercept them, but that would involve sending some of our men out into the desert. They came here to arrest criminals, not fight monsters." It wouldn't be fair, sending them into a battle they didn't ask for, but they had asked for it, in a way. They'd signed up, hadn't they? Still, you needed special training before you went after magical beasts, and many of the soldiers wouldn't have completed their courses yet. "If this is part of those pirates' plan, then both of you will need to be put under a watchful eye. Hostages are not liabilities we can afford." She mulled over the situation brusquely before addressing her captain, "I think we should just send word to the office, so that when Mr. Ralif returns he'll have an escort and know the situation. Mr. and Miss. Fitzgerald will be safest with us, but I don't think we should thin our numbers among those selected to find the crew of the Blackguard."
Going with Ralif's actual name would be risky, and Coran really didn't want to annoy that strange man more the necessary, so he went with a safe back up, "Badami, Ralif Badami. Sir." He only hoped there wasn't an actual Ralif Badami on this island, some unwitting bystander who suddenly found himself with two fiancés. "And, um, we've been planning this for a while, he booked the expedition a few months ago." He hated being so useless and he hated being so nervous, Camilla had managed to keep herself totally composed, but suitably concerned. Damn, she was good at this. Coran would have to remember that if he ever thought about trying to trick her in the future. Maybe if they could split up the guards as much as possible, they'd be too distracted to search for the others? Or they'd just be more likely to run into them. This thinking on your feet lark was no fun, not at all. Still, he should seemed at least a little worried about his husband-to-be, shouldn't he? "Um, Captain Iratus, sir, do you think there's any chance that Ralif's hunting party would've been targeted? If they took the ship, what if they followed him off?"
Gonna wait till Happy replies so we can move on with Kerro c: I'd like to point out that KAIN was the first to assume ANYTHING about adoption and therefore Kain = softie )

(It doesn't even feel so close to christmas!!! Haha she really does she's quite the feminist, but she will use her womanly charms however necessary and exploit others~)
(Sounds good! Haha that math sounds accurate to me!)
"Two hours? That is quite a while.." Camilla replied with a frown, her eyebrows furrowed in thought and her finger twisted around the end of her auburn braid thoughtfully. She wasn't sure the best plan of action at the point. Getting the troops to split might be better for the rest of the crew since numbers would be fewer and they could pick off soldiers so the group wouldn't be so large in a fight. But at the same time, it gave them all a much larger chance of running into guards and having to deal with them, which they could have possibly avoided in the first place. Either way Camilla was certain she and Coran had the hardest and most stressful job currently, so the others better be able to handle a few soldiers if they were sent their way. "Of course, of course. I know there are many beasts on this island, I just fear the worst for our fiancé. Anything to help would be much appreciated, you have all already been so helpful." She said kindly and tried to have the courage to muster up a smile and put on a brave face despite her concern for her 'husband.'
Iratus was generally over this conversation and problem he had not wanted to deal with in the first place. Civilian woes had never been his strong area, those who had trained him said he lacked empathy which Heath always felt was a good thing. But it made interactions like this awkward which was why he usually let his Paladin handle them. She made better decisions in these situations and once again she was proving herself by having a plan. It made him a little broad, but there was no way to be able to detect that from the stone faced man. "Good call Chrysanta. You're right, most of our crew are not prepared for the dangers of this island, no need to lose good soldiers to the elements or creatures. That isn't out task. We will send word and have an escort for the man since I wouldn't put anything past Whetu and her despicable group." He agreed and picked one of the soldiers, waving him off to do as Chrysanta had instructed. He glanced back at Coran and frowned slightly. "Of course there is a chance. But we won't know until sundown his situation and if he's hunting creatures here he should know when they're hunting him."

(I know, I'm so excited for Christmas too!! I can't wait at all. ^_^) (Clearly the cute selkie will also wear on Kain's hard-nosed demeanor. XD)
"Oh, I find it rather exciting to have even more of a near-death prospect looming around every corner." Ralif's voice was absolutely dripping with sarcasm, clearly far beyond even pretending to play nicely with Sonal. As he did so his plain-speaking manner vanished, returning to the tone and inflection a noble would use when speaking with a commoner beneath their station. Whatever side he had been willing to show his traveling partner had evaporated as fully as a droplet of water in this desert. "Though guards really don't matter much to me, I've nothing on my head that can be proven save traveling with you lot. Enough coin, the right contacts, some flattery, and even that is forgiven. I doubt the same could be said for you, no?"
"Yes Ma'am." Soren dipped his head in deference to Chrysanta, perfectly willing to fall back to her judgement when the time came. He was smart enough to offer his own insights on a situation but simultaneously smart enough to realize that arguing with his superior in a public setting would result in no benefits for the either of them. If she wanted his opinion further, she could ask for it. His expression and demeanor changed little in the face of Camilla's act, though several guards behind him were positively enamored, but that was likely due to who his boss was and who they were chasing. Women were just as dangerous as men, more so if you underestimated them. Thankfully he hadn't had to learn that the hard way, rather he'd seen two new soldiers assume Chrysanta to be a pushover. What a wonderfully entertaining mistake from afar.
Kerro completely froze as Whetu emerged from the bushes, even in the trembling in his hands stopped as it seemed his entire body went into shock. M-more humans? He was dead. He could barely even handle the one despite stealing his gun when the man had gotten cocky, but three more meant that he was going to be sold to the highest bidder. Mind reeling with what was soon in store for him he almost fainted, barely noticing that the new human female had started speaking. "K-Kerro..." He managed to squeak out, voice quiet, strained, and scared beyond belief. Definitely a timid selkie alright, revolver in hand or no. The man stood up straight, trying to look intimidating in his own right, but with no armaments besides a net it wasn't exactly like he was inspiring fear in anybody's heart. "Yeah, I am a cutthroat like you. Take it I can't interest you in splitting the take instead of cutting me outta the deal? Got a buyer. Lotta gold in it." He really didn't have a leg to stand on except to hope to appeal to these newcomers' baser instincts.

It's cool ~~~ this is the busiest time of the year! Also, theory - Kain is Robbie Rotten.)
His voice had changed again. Shame. Her ears weren't very finely tuned, and she may not understand every nuance she heard, but she was shrewd enough to know she'd annoyed him too much. And he had a good point; he was the perfect blend of self sufficient and charming enough to get out of harm's way. He was probably the safest member of the entire crew right now, "Well, no. Iratus is no fan of Whetu's, but he is not exactly spilling at the edges with love for me. If our captain gets the rope, I'll be right behind her. Hopefully they'll just beat each other up into they burn out, and forget about the rest of us." The path widened and she turned right ways again, lowering her gun. Sonal even let out a breath she wasn't aware she'd been holding onto, she was hardly claustrophobic, but she certainly wasn't looking forward to making it back through there. At least the sun had dipped a bit, casting the stone hollow into a deep, cool shade. "Watch out for snakes, they like the cold bits." She'd seen several people fall victim to snake bites in the past, and few made it out alive if they were bitten so far into the desert.
She kept her stony face up, receiving her superior's words with a nod, as she often did, but inside she couldn't help the smug warm feeling from any tiny form of praise she received. Captain Iratus never gave out praise, so when he did, he meant it. Chrysanta focused on getting her mind back on track and gave Camilla another nod and blink, "We're only doing our jobs, Ms Fitzgerald. I think both of you should get out of the sun now, and somewhere easier to protect." It was so very open out here, and though the locals were unlikely to attack guards, they still were keeping up their usual friendly facade. Coran could only hope their lies would hold up for a little bit longer. This situation had spiraled madly out of what it should've been originally. They were meant to get info and get out, not end up making pleasantries with the head guards, and invent whole personas! What would happen when that guard came back because there's no such thing as 'Long Shore Hunting Parties'? Did Heath do on the spot executions? He looked like he did.
"What a lovely name." She purred, doing her best to see this little guy as a frightened victim and not a big sack of gold. "It's nice to meet you Kerro, and I hate to sound rude, but we all know that you're very uncomfortable holding that thing." She gestured ot his gun with the curved tip of her sword, "Maybe consider putting it down? There are some very stern people on this island, and a gunshot is going to send at least someone running. And you might hurt someone, like Xavier." She pointed to her tall friend, who seemed to have found a club, "You don't want to hurt him. He's cool. So's Kain, like, but I'd be more understanding if you wanted to shot him. No offense, Kale." Was she pushing it? Yes, yes she was. Did she care? Nope. "Well, Mr. Cutthroat, why would we really be interested in what you're offering. I've got a big ol' sword here, and a whole crew on this island. You're not really in any position to be bargaining." She took a step towards him, leveling her sword towards his jugular, and adding a growl to her voice "Plus, we're not really in the business of selling people." Alright, a tad hypocritical, but anyone would be tempted! The Kerro-selkie-kid looked terrified, and she knew that, odds were, someone in her crew had been a victim of human trafficking. Xavier had suggested rescuing him very fast, hadn't he? Her mind had been made up, she wouldn't make a crew member relive something like that.

(This is all going to be so great. XD
Sounds good Win!)
"Let us hope that it is only their egos and wits that clash, for all our sake. Tell you what though, if I do escape unscathed I will put forth my best effort in getting the rest of you free. We are a crew after all." Arrogant and superior as he may be, Ralif was not a man stupid enough to alienate those he was traveling with. He wasn't lying either, he was confident that he'd be able to drop in to a prison and through gold or violence get a hold of a key. That was assuming the captain of the guard didn't execute the lot of them on the spot at least. "I've jailbroken more than one man. For a fee." He followed Sonal into the hollow, the one eye he had carefully peeled for assailants of a serpentine variety. Wouldn't that be fateful, dying to a snake when there were bullets and swords looking for them? "I'd do the same for you. Perhaps even a friends and family discount on the fee." A smirk creased the fabric of his mask, in a bit of better humor now that he had an edge of some kind.
Wait... were... were these humans not going to sell him? Really? Was he actually being saved? Kerro blinked a bit, nodding tentatively as he dropped the revolver onto the ground."O-okay..." It hadn't taken much convincing, the selkie was obviously a very naive type. A few words of Whetu's silky purr and he was willing to get rid of his only defense; a lucky thing that the new humans were actually being genuine in their goodwill. The cutthroat dropped his net as he held up his hands, eyes focused on the very pointy edge of the sword at his neck. He was a man who understood threats well, having been on both ends of them plenty of times. "I'm just tryin' to look out for myself as much as possible here, you'd do the same. We're the same type of people." He wasn't making any sudden moves, quite liking his head where it currently was. there really wasn't a trick up his non-existant sleeves that he could pull. "You can take the selkie," he nodded to the side at Kerro, "and I'll be on my way. No hard feelings?" Kerro, meanwhile, had been taking tiny little steps to the side. He was trying to escape from the gaze of the man who'd been willing to sell him, his path taking him all the way to Xavier. Without regard to any social norms or his current situation he suddenly sprang forward and wrapped his arms tightly around the member of Whetu's crew, burying his face into the other's torso as if he was burying his head in the sand.

(Coran is in luck Heath specializes in on the spot executions ^^) Also should this dude trying to catch Kerro go back into town, loudly complain about some cocky pirate and her crew that took his reward and then the royal guard could hear and go after them? Then Camilla and Coran could slip away too lol)
Kain scowled and rolled his eyes at Whetu's rediculous teasing. He returned his gun to it's holster and crossed his arms over his chest. "Thanks." He said with flat sarcasm. He watched the kid easily drop his gun and join there group, if they were going to sell him it would have been similar to taking candy from a baby, pathetically easy. He put a hand to his forehead in disbelief at how guilible he was and shook his head. All Whetu had needed to do was ask his name and be nice and the kid was sold? It ws a wonder he was still alive honestly. Xavier on the other hand was not nearly as judgmental. Surprised, but not judgemental. He put his hands up in a bit of shock and dropped the stick when the kid hugged him tightly. As kind hearted as Xavier was, he wasn't always sure how to comfort someone. "Oh." He said the patted his back lightly and had a hand on one of his shoulders so he felt safer. "There there little selkie."

That's a good idea, win. We need to start tying these guys together lol)
"I don't think anyone would ever get a discount from you." She admitted, glancing Ralif out of the corner of her eye." She took a few steps around the hollow, glad of the cool sand agasint her feet. Se could feel the sweat n her back cooing down, and it was highly unpleasant, but better then the smell of her own burning flesh. "Is this it? Should I be seeing a golden large hoop?" She swapped the order of her adjectives unintentionally, and it sunded a little clunky, but she played it off well enough. There didn't seem to be muhc there but smooth stone walls and a few dead bushes. No treasure that she could spot. No snakes either, which seemed good enough to her. She brushed one hand agasint the stone wall, it was nice how you could see all the layers of sedament rock, but then Sonal realised she was staring at rocks, and made herself stop, "Does the map say anything?"
Trying not to let her surpirse register on her face, Whetu nodded and gave the selkie a little smile. Inside her head, she was crying a little at how easy that wasand felt a lot guiltier at having decided to sell him off. "Well, I wouldn't call us the same, per say. For instance, I have a sword. And style. But yes, I don't see any reason to further antagonise you. Pleasure doing busienss with you, mister." She lowered her sword, but didn't sheath it, nor did she turn her back on him. Iratus had taught her well, what turning your back on someone could mean. She did spare a few glances over at 'Kerro', who seemed to have attached himself lik a limpet to her tall friend, who, credit when credit was due, didn't look nearly as disguted as Kain. "D'awww, you made a friend." She grinned, "That's nice." The selkie wasn't wearing much, just trousers, so that would have to be the first thing they sorted, if he didn't just disappear into the water first chance he got. She wouldn't blame him. "Kerro, I must say, I've never met a selkie before. Can you really turn into a seal?" There was a youthful curiosity in ehr voice, and an gleam of adventure in her eye. Even as a child Whetu hadbeen very concerned wiht money, but she'd never really lost her love for a good fairy story, "Because, if you can, that is so cool. All I've ever managed to turn into was an outlaw."

(No worries Sappho, just glad to have you back! ^_^ Also definitely agree with this guy going back to town. XD)
"I'm almost hurt by your insinuation that I've no friends. Though I'd have to have considered us friends in the first place to truly be offended, so I'm in luck there." The hollow being thoroughly unremarkable meant that Ralif already had the map out, looking to see if they'd made a wrong turn or if there were any special notes about the place. It couldn't be as simple as it looked if it held the golden hoop, could it? "It says to watch out for serpents but we've already made note of that ourself." To his credit he was ignoring her misplaced words though that was likely only because he'd given up trying to talk to her in an actual manner rather than the persona he'd adopted. He'd thought her perhaps to be the woman he could freely converse with but that hadn't exactly panned out. "Hm... I'd suggest we keep moving, though just a bit beyond this we're to be wary of harpies. They're not much fond of intruders save as snacks."
The man, arms still held up in surrender to avoid a very swift execution, began to move around Whetu and back into the jungle. First he'd been robbed of his gun from a careless mistake, now he was losing the selkie who'd done it too? "The pleasure is all yours." The forced smile on his face did absolutely nothing to conceal his true feelings, not that that was his intent in the first place. Making an enemy was easy on Kydos and that was certainly what had just happened as he slunk away into the undergrowth. Kerro didn't immediately respond, just glad that these humans weren't going to sell him, or at least it seemed like they weren't going to. Ever so slowly he turned his head from Xavier's chest towards Whetu, fear and trepidation showing clear as day in his wide violet eyes. "I... Um... M-maybe?" In spite of embracing the tall pirate he was living up to his species's reputation of being timid, with a voice so soft that one had to pay special attention to hear it. Just a frightened little creature all alone in a big bad world; selkies really had it rough. It was only a few seconds that he was able to meet the captain's gaze before he once again buried his face against Xavier, clinging to the man as if he'd protect him from all the evil that humans would want to visit upon him. "D-don't hurt me... please..."

(Yay so happy you're back! I've missed this rp)
Kain watched the selkie cling to Xavier with cold eyes, he fought back a shiver at the thought of being that utterly helpless and naive. The creature would only weigh them down with it's inability to fend for itself or even provide any useful skills for their journey. He sighed and gave a long eye roll, but was distracted by the man leaving. If it were up to Kain he would have just killed him, he kept his gun trailed on the hunter as he receded back into the jungle then lowered it and replaced it to his holster. He looked back to the other two who were obviously fascinated by the selkie, Whetu's curiosity seemed to replace her slight desire for the bank he would have brought in and Kain wasn't sure what he would have done with Kerro. It was a lot of money, but even he pitied the pathetic creature. Xavier had gotten over his initial shock of the little guy hugging him and was now his thrill was evident on his face. "Is he not adorable?? Look at those cute eyes ugh, Whetu, we gotta keep him." Xavier pleaded, his one arm around the selkie now. He was captivated by how naive and cute the selkie was and he made a shocked expression at Kerro's plea. "You're in the presence of the finest captain on the great blue sea Kerro. She's shown you mercy, we're not going to hurt you little friend." He said kindly then glanced at Kain. "Even Kain. He just looks scary." He teased and Kain didn't change expressions, his arms crossed and expression unamused before he spoke, "he can't be any more useless than the dog." He muttered and Xavier grinned. "See! Kain even agrees! He's gotta come with us."

I've missed this too!! these pirate nerds are all i have ;-; )
The mention of harpies made the top of her skin prick, nasty creatures. She'd encountered them once before, sailing south from Leibonia, and they'd destroyed the boat and most of the crew. Jagged claw marks along her left thigh were their legacy to Sonal, the already superstitious woman had been pretty religious for a while after that, lucky to be alive. "If there are harpies up ahead, then we don't go any further unarmed." She slung her shot gun off her shoulders and into her arms, "I'm in no mood to be torn to shreds and eaten. This is my favourite shirt." It was one of two only shirts she owned, but the other was missing a button (Sonal was no good at sewing, her fingers were too big). The path out of the hollow was equally cool, still shaded by the towering rocks, though it was twisted and narrow. At least it wasn't getting steeper. "We must be getting into later afternoon now, and I don't want to be out here at night. How long does this path go on for, Ralif?" If daytime on Kydos was bad, then she knew she would hate nighttime.
The man slung away, and Whetu put her sword back into her belt, dusting off her sweaty hands on her trousers. Man, it was hot here. The sun was slowly sinking however. They'd have to either hurry, or wrap this up soon. When the selkie spoke again, she tilted her head to the side and raised her hands in a show of peace, "Relax kid, we're not going to hurt you! Soft pelts aren't really our style." She strolled over to him, where he still clung to Xavier as if his life depended on it. He was smaller up close, and so skinny she could see the outline of his ribs. Her maternal instinct, something that she would've sworn she didn't have a year ago, sprang up at her, and she pushed a hand under her hat, through her hair, "You need a decent meal. And a hair cut." She joked, noting his wild locks. When even Kain didn't suggest shooting and skinning him on the spot, Whetu couldn't keep the honest shock and delight off her face. She'd only appointed Kain as first mate yesterday, she didn't want to argue with him so soon, "Then we're all in agreement! Kerro, you're coming with us. If you want to, that is. We got a big ship, and a big journey planned, but there's always room for one more." The captain offered, taking her hat off and dumping it on the little guy's head. He was going to get sunstroke if he wasn't careful.

(So glad we can get back to this. Also gah, I love how adorable everyone is being around Kerro. Even Kain is being nice for Kain. XD
"That is a sentiment with which I most firmly agree." Ralif was ready to pull his revolver at the slightest sign of danger, he was quick on the draw. His enemies, however, had always been of the human variety. Guards, untrustworthy fences, his fellow dashing rogues, all had looked down the barrel of his ornately crafted gun at one point or another. That being said, bullets did not care for whom or what their target was, harpy or man they struck the same. "Well, it ends in a circular area that I believe us to be close by... There seems a possibility of it being a harpy's nest. If there's a place where the golden hoop would be on this blasted island it would be there, though I don't know that we'd survive the venture into it. What do you say Sonal? Shall we see this to the end or go back to safety?"
Kerro refused to budge from Xavier, his eyes still squeezed shut as if he was trying to block out the frightful prospect of these humans suddenly turning on him. Ending up a as a pelt was something that most selkies feared, this struck especially true for one without a pack and stuck firmly in human territory. Only when Xavier had an arm around him and began speaking to his safety did he dare to open his eyes, hope shining in the violet pools as he listened to the promises of safety. Were... Were these humans offering to accept him into their pack? Really? "O-okay..." He nodded once, easily believing the words of the man he'd already chosen to trust. His attention then turned to Whetu, able to tell that the woman was their leader. Captain? Was that what they called her? He watched her every step closer to him, resisting the instinct he had to run away. She wasn't going to hurt him-she'd said as much-even if she was a human. "I-I'd like a new pack... and food..." Despite his apparent willingness to go along with them he still flinched at the drop of her hat onto his tangled head. Easy to fright this one. Adorable still.

these nerds are like wanted for murder in six countries,,, but adopt a small child the first chance they get,,,,,, )
"If we chicken out now, I will never hear the end of it." Was the blunt response, and she turned to the path ahead of her and kept walking. Spite and pride were excellent motivators, and had served Sonal well in her life. "I'd rather face ten harpies then a smug Whetu. At least the harpies, I can shoot." She hadn't been in a fight for a while, honestly. On the months leading up to sailing, she'd purposefully kept a low profile and stayed out of trouble. Was she rusty? This may not be the best time to find out, but hey, you couldn't plan for everything. "Have you ever encountered anything mystical before? Or is this your first time?" She ducked under a dried up branch of a dead tree and stepped over a dip in the road. This place was wild and untamed, how long had it been since anyone else had been up here? Then again, why would anyone ever come up here in the first place? Because they're idiots, she thought grimly.
"Ohhhh, a pack. I've been in a gang, a crew, a band and a posse, but never a pack." Her lupine smile betrayed that and she tilted her head the other way, the weight of her body shifting over her hips, as it often did in casual conversation. This guy really was quite trusting, it was sad to think that he'd probably be dead soon if he was off on his own (then again, what was to say he was better off with them?), "There's more of us, in our, um, pack, y'know. There's a big woman, and a masked man, and a gorgeous doctor and a specky kid. Oh, and a dog. Don't worry, he's friendly." What are the odds that Conall would eat Kerro? Slim? The dog was big, not vicious. Looking back at Kain, she realised that their time here was regrettably up, "We should head back to the ship. There's no guarantee that that guy is going to keep his mouth shut, and I don't know if our new friend here can make the journey. No shoes, no coat, barely any muscle." She shrugged, "Heading back is our best option."

(Sounds about right haha I love them)
"He's useless." Kain agreed, his arms crossed over his chest and expression unamused. This wasn't a traveling orphanage the were running and even though that wasn't the point Whetu was trying to make, Kain was aware she knew the little selkie had no assets to them other than cash. Kain was beginning to wonder if the dog was more useful than Kerro and lucky for Coran it had just knocked him above his dog and the selkie on Kain's Chart of Most to Least Useful Members of the Crew. He was now third useless which wasn't too bad. "Do you think Camilla and Coran are still in town? Or Sonal and Ralif on the mountain? We need them all to return to the ship." He sighed a bit, he didn't like that they were all still split up with royal guards on the island, it was risky. He still thought they should have just slit the mans throat, since who knew what he would do if he ran into guards, once described it would be easy for the guards to realize they were in the forest. "We've got all the delish pickled eggs you can eat kid. Don't you worry everyone will love you." Xavier said cheerfully and gave the selkie a gentle pat. He grinned at Whetu and ached a brow. "Ooh a posse? Do tell Whetu. What was that like?" He asked curiously. When he pictured a posse he saw a group snapping their fingers at people and dancing, not exactly an intimidating group he would envision Whetu being a part of. He could hardly handle how cute Kerro was, he was glad they found the poor fellow before if was too late. He didn't understand the kind of cruelty that greed fed, but it scared him a little that people would be so incredibly heartless to a naive and defenseless creatures suffering. He's as glad Whetu wasn't like his old captains, ones who wouldn't think twice about skinning him and throwing his bones to the vultures.
