“ACCORDING TO ALL KNOWN LAWS OF AVIATION, THERE IS NO WAY - “ Matt blinked into the lodge, shouting at the top of his lungs into what had been a walkie talkie, but was now just his hands, as it hadn’t blinked in with him. He broke off quickly upon registering the change in temperature, and the fact that he was now sitting on a comfortable armchair instead of the drivers’ seat of a semi truck. He glanced quickly around at the others in the room, slightly abashed to have so dramatically interrupted the peace and quiet of what looked to be the lodge once again. He whispered a few apologies, then got up and crossed the room, heading for the hot chocolate. Hey, might as well take advantage of such a nice room, right?

Matt glanced over at Nico as he blinked in, and caught the wince and the hasty concealment of the injury. He didn’t comment, though, or even raise an eyebrow - he’d covered it up for a reason, so he shouldn’t pry. Had he seen the boy before? He couldn’t remember, off the top of his head, but he looked familiar. He wasn’t sure they’d ever talked, but...yeah, he’d at least seen him. He was pretty sure he knew his name, too, from hearing other people call it. Taking a risk on his hunch that the awkward silence was nervousness and not hostility, he poured a second cup of hot chocolate and turned towards him, offering it as an icebreaker. “Hey,” he said, punctuating the offering with a friendly wave. “Nico, right?”

Nico hesitated a moment before taking the hot chocolate, offering Matt a tense, but genuine, smile as he did so. He let the warm feeling transfer to his hand, relieved for something comforting. He gave a small nod at the name. "That certainly makes me look bad," he murmured wryly. "I don't know your name. I mean... I've seen you, but either nobody said your name while I was there or it's slipped my memory..." he shrugged, not sure if he had said too much or if he was rambling... he lifted up his gaze to meet Matt's. He knew he had seen his injury, had been here when he blinked in, and he'd said nothing - to his credit. He'd always seemed particularly kind to other blinkers. Nico couldn't help but like him based on what he'd seen before. Liking someone before knowing them was a rather new feeling for Nico.

Matt watched Nico take the chocolate, feeling a small surge of relief to have successfully connected with the boy. It was always nervewracking to introduce yourself without knowing if you were going to be met with a friendly smile or abject hostility, and that effect was magnified in the House. Not that it made him stop trying to get to know people...that part was hardcoded into him or something. “Nah, no worries,” he said, waving a hand as Nico expressed regret at not knowing his name. “Lotta people seem to know your name so I picked it up quick, but I haven’t been here that long yet, so mine doesn’t get tossed around much. It’s Matt.” He put his hands in his pockets, smiling benignly through the short silence that followed. He’d learned that smiling was an ok way to dispel awkwardness, or at least a good way to indicate that it wasn’t a hostile silence. “Cozy place, huh?” he said at last, gaze traveling to the fireplace. “Have you been in it before? I’ve noticed that it seems to come around about once a year, if the past two are any indication.”

"Well... nice to meet you, Matt," Nico replied, distinctly not offering a handshake. He knew it was impolite, but he couldn't... he closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He had definitely seen Matt around to the point where he considered him a veteran rather than a newbie, but the fact was that Nico had been there a long time, and he had blinked in a lot more in what seemed to be a while, House time. He had missed meeting a lot of people, but he honestly wasn't sure he minded, mostly. There were always exceptions - people he wanted to (or at least didn't mind) meeting. Matt seemed to be good around people - Nico could feel the awkwardness, and knew it was mostly due to him, but he was grateful for the fact that Matt was actively trying to dispel it. There were a lot of people around the House who were ready to fight at a moment's notice, and Matt didn't seem like one of them. It was a nice break for Nico. "I..." his mind took him back to the Lodge, years ago for him. "Yeah. I guess that's a good way to mark how much time has passed in the House, isn't it? It always seems nice until something awful happens at the end. I'm glad it's back up, especially after the entire place burned down last year..." he glanced up, shaking his head in amused disbelief. "I'm surprised the House let us have it back after that."

If Matt had been able to hear Nico’s thought that he was good with people, he might’ve laughed at it. He thought himself a bit of an ungainly mess when it came to interacting with people, and generally, he considered it a success when his new friends didn’t take one look and decide to run the other way. He could be...odd. He knew that. But as a rule, he tried not to let it stop him from trying to meet people. Nico was a calm presence, though. He didn’t seem judgemental at all, or even aware of his occasional social stumblings, and he even felt a little silly for being initially intimidated by him. At the boy’s comment on last year’s lodge, Matt chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck as he uncomfortably recalled his own role in that disaster. He’d really been a newbie then, hadn’t he? “Yeah, the House doesn’t usually strike me as the forgiving type, but it’d be sad if it never let us back in here. I am seeing that it’s maybe learned its’ lesson, though...” he added, gesturing to the fake fireplace. “Too many pyromaniacs in here for the real thing, I guess.”

Nore blinked into the lodge, the bottoms of her cowboy-style boots covered in dust and dirt still. Even her jeans were dusty, but her bird-print shirt was rather clean as always. Seeing as it was her primary article of clothing, she kept it clean at all times. Well, clean-ish. Right now it had a large dark mark on the back, difficult to differentiate between mud and blood. Knowing Nore, it could be either. The girl was holding a bow and arrow in her hands, one arm outstretched as she took aim. The direction changed when she realized she was in the house and she aimed for the couch, releasing the arrow and letting it burrow deep into the cushion with a shink noise. Then, exhibiting restraint, which was a less Nore-like behavior, she lowered the weapon. "Damn... it's cold here too." Although she had been practically in the desert, the temperature had shifted since it was winter. The Paradox House seemed to be on the same timeline.

Stretching his arms above his head, Myrnin yawned. "Look, I can't help you," he said around the yawn. "Ow. What's poking me in the back ..." The ending seemed to be more about the House instead of the place he had just left. He turned around in his seated position on the couch, finding an arrow was buried in the couch and prodding him in the back. "This arrow looks familiar," he muttered under his breath. He pulled it out of the couch, spinning it between his fingers before casting a look over at Nore. "Ah! Nose!" he exclaimed, tapping the arrow again the tip of his own nose as he seemed to find it amusing. It had taken him this long to come up with that? It wasn't going to stick, but he wouldn't be Myrnin if he didn't say what was on his mind. "I can see I missed the arrow this time. Yours?" He held it out to her. He hadn't seemed to noticed he was in the Lodge yet.

Nore had smirked faintly at the satisfying sound of the arrow sticking into the couch, but now she frowned at the voice. Well, primarily the joke. “Oh, duh,” she said to herself, “Of course you’re here.” That was her way of saying ‘what’s up?’ or ‘I’ve missed you’. Because she did miss the vampire when she went away. Her stomach twisted in a sudden knot then and she wasn’t sure why. It was almost like a warning to be heeded. “You and your *****y humor,” she accused as she snatched the arrow out of his generous hand, reaching over her shoulder to drop it into the quiver. “Just more proof I never miss. What’ve you been up to then? Sucking blood, taking names?” Nore was drawn to the snacks and she hovered over the table, taking a few cookies and shoving them into her mouth. Some things really do never change.

Likewise, if Nico had been able to hear Matt's thought about being calm, about Matt feeling silly for being slightly intimidated... well, his reaction would have been one of utter shock. He was used to being feared and distrusted. He'd long ago given up a hope that people would ever stop treating him that way, even after his numerous attempts to fix his prior mistakes. His numerous attempts to become better. But Matt hadn't known him when he'd made those mistakes, and Nico did try really hard to be in a better mood in the House. He directed his gaze back towards the fake fire as Matt commented on it. "Sometimes I wonder if the House legitimately thinks it's parenting us," he commented with a small laugh. "You burn something down, it gives you a warning and then gives you a new one that you can't destroy in the same way." He rolled his eyes, allowing himself to smile slightly. "It's so messed up, but I am really glad we got it back again this year." Of course... 'this year' was about a minute later than the last lodge in Nico's world because the House seemed to enjoy pulling him almost constantly, but that was besides the point.

"Of course, of course!" said Myrnin, bowing at the waste even though he was sitting. "I am not that easy to be shed up. Keep turning up like a bad penny? Is that an expression which is still used?" He waved a hand to dismiss his own question. He seemed pretty carefree, at least outwardly. It was better than complaining about the tension back in his world. "I'll have you know my humor is wonderful!" he said, mock offended. "I suppose I have been sucking blood? I mean, I did have to go to the blood bank today. They missed my order." He scratched at his hair, as if this was the most interesting thing which had happened today. "They asked me to return the cooler when I was done, but I never do." He grinned for a brief second, then moved on. Nore was snacking again. Always for the snacks. He let an eyebrow arch, then asked, "Hunting rabbits? Or something with fewer legs and less hair?" He didn't imply it very well, but he was asking if she was shooting at humans. He sounded curious. He'd seen her with the bow a lot lately. Well, lately being around six months ago.

Kaito was wearing a face mask and coughing into his fist. He wasn't actually sick. But the act required him to look it. So after the latest fit of fake coughing, he manged to look up and found himself in the lodge again. He hadn't expected that. He looked around, straightening his suit. He wasn't dressed as the thief right now, but he still was playing that role. He just didn't need to fake the cough while he was in the House. He untangled the mask from around his face, pulling it down and getting some uninterrupted breaths in. "I wonder how this place is going to end," he wondered. "The tree was decorated to end it last time." He noticed a few other blinkers around, but didn't really engage with them yet. Instead he looked down at his shoes, placing both of his scarred hands into his pockets again.

“I’ve never heard that saying,” Nore mumbled, spitting crumbs of cookie halfway across the room when she tried to speak while eating. She merely stood there and chewed in his direction while he told the blood bank story, then swallowed and yawned. She took the next few minutes to hover her right hand over the trays of cookies and hot chocolate options. Her palm was like a radar for detecting the snack with the most sugar and the least health value. Might as well answer his question, she supposed. Actually, she wanted it to seem like it was a supposition. She wanted to look reluctant to share the information, when in reality she was eager to share everything she had been up to-almost everything. Keeping some secrets was what preserved the suspense. “Not right now... but I do hunt for food, yes. I’m actually practicing,” she informed him. A reserved sentence, punctuated with a curved smile. She swayed toward him, looking expectant for him to ask more.

Combeferre blinked in again, his eyes widening as he took in his surroundings once more. Once back home he had managed to convince himself it was only a dream, but he knew that wasn't the case. He knew there was more to it than that, especially now, surrounded by it once more. And this time there could be no confusion over what he'd been doing when he blinked in. It wasn't a short dream he'd had because he'd fallen asleep well reading. He couldn't very well fall asleep while helping his mother cook, now could he? He looked around for the Shilo, but she wasn't here like she'd been last time. It made him sad - he liked having her there, if not only to have someone else his age so nearby so he wouldn't have to rely on and talk to only adults. It seemed he wasn't going to be that lucky this time, but his father had taught him how to talk to strangers, and now was as good a time as any to practice. He took a deep breath and approached Kid before sticking his hand out to shake. "Hello. I'm new here and you seem quite familiar with the place. My name is Combeferre and... and I was wondering if maybe you could answer some of my questions."

The words ran through Kid's head, picking out the familiar memories he had. Who were the first blinkers? He looked down at the boy, unable to stop the surprise on his face. His hand then turned to the hand, then back to the boy's face. He couldn't remember any details about who Combeferre was ... but he didn't think he'd been this young. And clearly he didn't remember the House. He'd been quiet for too long. Shilo, Arlo, and now this guy. All of them died too. Is Danny and Enjolras the last blinkers left? "I'm called Kid or Kaito," he said, finally taking the hand and shaking it, though the scarred fingers were still stiff. "Um ... what questions did you have?" He wet his lips, a bit nervous. This is wrong. I'm the senior blinker to all three. I'm practically introducing two. Him and Shilo. I didn't even get to see Arlo when she 'came back'. Just the two blinkers I never knew. It seems wrong. I wanted to meet him. I still do. "Is this your .. second time here?" Kid hazarded a guess.

"Nice to meet you, Kaito!" Combeferre grinned widely. It would have felt weird calling someone older than him 'Kid,' so he decided on the other one. He thought it was nice of Kaito to give him a choice of which name to use. He wondered why there were two different options. Maybe it was like his name, where he could use his family name or his first name. He wasn't sure why he gave his family name, but it felt more comfortable. At least he'd have his father's legacy to protect him if he really needed it here. Though nobody would know who his father was... either way the name was important to him. He nodded firmly at the next question. "I'd never been anywhere like this before my last... blink." the word was still weird to him. It seemed to him that he had said something originally that had upset Kaito, so he was doing his best not to upset him any more. "I wanna know how it all works, and why it works, and if there's a history of the place because there must have been people that discovered it first, or... or built it, and I... I wanna know everything that you know about the House."

He knew at once what she was trying for with her reserved and slow answers. He'd never employed the particular tactic. Instead, he always found manic bouncing and excitement just annoyed people into asking him things. "Why were you practicing?" he asked. Just because he knew what she was doing didn't mean he wasn't accommodating.

I wanna know everything that you know about the House." "Neither had I, before I started blinking," assured Kaito, dipping his head. He was leaning against a wall, for just a second after Combeferre had finished his introduction. It made the whole ordeal a bit easier to handle. He hadn't expected this sort of introduction. Would someone, in the future, hear about the him now ... but be introducing his younger self to the House? And he'd be lying to this kid, who was completely unaware his older and alternate self had blinked in here. Unlike Arlo. "We aren't sure how it works," he admitted. "I mean, sometimes we find out hints. If you meet Arlo maybe you could ask her to see her noteb - sorry." He shook his head. "Never mind. I'll start carrying my notebook around again, I think. Anyway, yeah, the blinkers find hints to how this place works. But I only know a couple of them." He searched his memory, avoiding thinking about Combeferre's other questions for now. "The House sometimes directly communicates with blinkers. Or sometimes there are rooms - which are different from any of the others in the House - where you can learn a bit more about it." He looked up at the decorations on the edge of the room. "I don't know if it was built. It's outside of time ... so maybe that means it will and has always existed. At least as long as time has." There was other things, of course. Combeferre was asking all the same questions Kid had during his first blinks. He consideredd how best to convey further information. "Nine," he finally said. "There were nine blinkers to begin with, I think. I only know the names of six." He looked a bit to the left, avoiding eye contact for a brief second. Then he looked back. "Only two are alive or blinking in anymore. Enjolras and Danny Phantom. I don't think Danny blinks in that often anymore, however." You're doing the same thing that Danny did with Shilo. You didn't like that ... why are you doing it to this boy? Why not just tell him? But maybe it was for the same reason Danny hadn't said he knew Shilo in the life she'd led before. Because she was a new blinker and the House was enough to take in for now. "I've been blinking in for about five years," Kid said. "So I know a little. Maybe even a fair bit. But a lot of it is second or third hand knowledge for some of the older blinkers."

I just think this [oops!] tastes great, okay?" She picked up a chocolate chip cookie the size of her hand and waved it out in front of him, then brought it to her mouth to give it the same fate as the rest. "Well I'm practicing because I'm going to give the biggest performance ever!" The girl opened her arms wide, ceasing her chewing temporarily only to give him a smirk that spread across her face. "I'd invite you except you can't even come to my world," she said, mood shifting with that as she sighed. Oh well, was the sentiment. You would really enjoy it."Anything great going on here? Other than this lodge, I mean."

Razzle Dazzle"Em-o?" asked Myrnin, suddenly mystified. "Is that not a furry red creature in a children's show?" He was referring to Sesame Street. It was probably best not to correct him. He watched her wave the cookie in front of his face, only for her to eat it. "What did the cookie ever do to you? Never had a chance to live. Never had a chance at all." He looked around, since it avoided the cookies and he could look at the Lodge. He ... hadn't actually noticed he was still here. "Not that I know of," he said. "I haven't exactly see much of note lately. It is mostly just ..." He waved a hand around. "The usual." But then he moved back to this 'performance' Nore was going to be putting on. "What performance? Robin Hood-style archer contests?"

Elliot's attention turned to Kid, for some reasons the kid was starting to grow on him. "Different world, right." He couldn't help but softly reply then look at himself when Kid pointed at him. "Oh, this?" He tugged lightly on the orange tassel hanging around his neck, at the same time his long blue sleeve flowed a bit. "This is not exactly daily wear." He now realized what part of the odd looks could have been a part of. "I don't mind placing the top." He addressed now, "As for this" He referred to his attire, "I was visiting another world, one where Samurai roam the lands. They were celebrating with festivities, I was invited and had this made for the occasion." He paused now, his feet landing back on the ground after he placed everything in the box, on the upper section of the tree. He placed the box down, then readjusted the tassel he tugged on briefly. "Unfortunately, once the festivities end I have been given the honor of performing a rather grand execution." He spoke with sarcasm lacking interest in the concept. At the same time he looked towards the tree to avoid meeting the other two's expressions. Since his back was against the tree, some leaves had gotten onto his tassel and side scarf, he had begun to brush off the leaves. "I know not of the details, but I was informed that a conspiracy was taking place. Knowing what is to come, I take it they did not get far." He trailed off, his attention turning elsewhere. "O-Oh." Eises simply replied, not knowing how to respond properly. She wondered how a box could store memories and personalities, but it was clearly a type of magic that didn't exist in her world. She decided not to think about it too hard, the wolf wasn't in the mood for a headache. If Evina were here, she'd be all over it probably. "I dunno how technology can create a conscious though..." After all, people have had those since the beginning, way before electronics were a thing. "Maybe it's the magic in your world." So once again, Eises decided not to think about it further. This was a pretty good topic to bring up to Evina whenever she returned, the demitheian may not be able to to understand most of the talk that would happen, but she enjoyed listening to her friend regardless. "Human?" She tilted her head for a few seconds, "Oh right." It took her a few moments to remember what those were. They didn't exist in Theia after all, her only experience with them was here in the House. Her eye widened when the android bowed, "Woah woah, you don't gotta bow! I'm not anyone special." In Elisia, bowing was a way of greeting and dismissing one self to someone of higher status, a status that Eises definitely didn't have. "Sevens isn't so cheesy, I like it. You can call me Eises!" "Nah. I'm pretty sure humanity was in the process of developing AIs before Magic was created." 7S replied, dismissing the hologram and straightening back up. Boy was that a looong time ago, a good 9000 plus years at that. Most of that stuff had been long forgotten by the common Androids, but 7S had made it an ongoing side mission of hers to learn as much as she could about the old world as possible. "Huh?" Eises reaction to her gesture caused the S type to tilt her head slightly. "You don't exactly see humans running around where I come from, let alone human-animal hybrids. So I'd say that makes you special from my point of view." She gave Eises a friendly smile. "Eises..." 7S repeated, the name drawing an old record into her mind. "There was an old god the humans of Egypt used to worship with a very similar name." That only just confused Eises even further. What did she mean by magic not being created yet? How does one...create it if it didn't already exist before? She didn't ask further though, whatever it was, it was something too much for her to understand anyway. The wolf's face went completely red; what's a lady this pretty doing calling her special? "Y-You're a little mistaken, there aren't even any humans in my world." So that was yet another world where Theians - or humans rather - that lacked animal parts. It'd be nice to meet someone where this stuff is normal, like in Theia. Although meeting a robot capable of thought and speech was already nice as it was. "I-I-Is that so?" There weren't any Gods from any religions she knew that had a similar name, they all had really elaborate names. Moreso than what dragons have, which is really saying something. "My friends just call me that since I'm an ice elemental."

Matt blinked, then laughed as Nico suggested that the House was parenting them, the mental image immediately making him crack up. ”If the House is trying to parent us, I want a custody hearing,” he commented, grinning. “I think most courts would agree that throwing your children into carefully prepared death traps every other day makes you an unfit parent. You’re right, though, it is nice to be back,” he added, taking a small sip of his hot chocolate to test if it was going to burn his mouth. It didn’t, so he took a slightly bigger sip, tasting a hint of peppermint that he hadn’t detected before. ”So,” he said, returning his attention to his new companion. “What kinda stuff do you do when you’re...yknow...not here? You got a hobby?”
