“We’re fine,” Nico was saying, his jacket slung over his elbow as one finger poked dolefully at a hole in the sleeve. He knew how to sew, but fixing up leather wasn’t quite that easy. He gave a small sigh, deciding that he could figure out how to fix it when he got back home. For now, he needed to devote his energy to wherever the House had decided to throw him now. There was a lot of life, here. Nico could tell that without even having to look, though from the sound, it didn’t seem like very much of it was human. The sun was low in the sky, and mostly covered by clouds, but it was still pleasantly warm. Nico couldn’t hide the smile that appeared as he realized what the House meant to do. Usually, when it made an effort to hide the sun, it menat there was going to be a vampire in the room. Nico had a preference, of course, but he didn’t say it out loud for fear that the House might change its mind. Instead, he began poking around the area he’d blinked into, gaze landing on a large plaque that read “Zoo Map.”

Vincent - Game Room - hawk
Vincent gave an understanding chuckle at L’s answer, though he didn’t seem to share the same paranoia. Or if he did, it didn’t prevent him from taking a trial sip of what he’d poured. He paused for a few moments, carefully considering the flavor of the unlabeled pale bronze liquid before he lowered the glass with a small shrug. It was definitely alcoholic, more savory than sweet, and easy to sip but difficult to accurately define with anything he was familiar with. It was likely some variant of whiskey, but he could only speculate about its particular origins.
He figured it wasn’t important and returned to his seat with both the bottle and his filled glass in hand. Once everything was neatly placed in front of him on the table, he sat and looked back at L expectantly, waiting for him to sit as well. “What do you think?” He asked, crossing one leg over the other and leaning forward slightly - his fingers drumming slightly as he waited for the House to start it’s game.

Hades was tense, eyes narrowed as he regarded Kelsier. He didn’t know what the man was doing, he just knew that it had something to do with his powers. He knew that whatever power this man had… it was more than Hades had bargained for. That was alright. He had beaten the odds many times before. Others didn’t tend to believe it because he was a god, but… he hadn’t gotten where he was by staying down when he was kicked. He had gotten back up, and he had built himself an empire. He had taken the best of what was given to him and had become as powerful as he could. The souls of the dead listened to him. The living feared him, of course, but they had still worshipped him as any other god. They knew that their meeting with him was inevitable. They knew that, unlike many of the other gods, he would look at their soul in person. He would decide what punishment they deserved, if they ended up deserving one. The respect and fear they had for him was deserved. It had served Hades well. He was used to being outnumbered and often outmanipulated. He was the least liked in his family. He had to fight for his wife, for his home, for everything he had taken. He wasn’t, however, used to being defeated by a mortal. Especially not a mortal who had weaseled his way into his son’s mind. It was Nico who had taught Hades a lesson, not too long ago. It was Nico who had told Hades not to be blinded by the grudges he had built. He supposed the same advice would apply here, but he pushed it aside. He was going to build a grudge against Kelsier, and he was going to harbor it until the man was dead. Until someone judged his soul and determined that he deserved some sort of punishment for the sorts of things he did. Hades didn’t know for sure whether Kelsier was a good or a bad person, but he had a feeling it was the latter. He was too impulsive for it to be the former. Maybe he was a hero. Maybe he had done many good things, but somehow… Hades doubted it. He had met many heroes he had disliked. He had been outmanipulated by heroes before. Kelsier was too… well, he had hold of Hades’ power. A hero wouldn’t do that, even if they had that ability in their arsenal. And then Kelsier was speaking and Hades had to reexamine every thought he’d had about the man. He was impulsive, yes, but he was willing to trade himself for the safety of the two boys he was protecting. It was a stupid move, to be certain, but it was an honorable one. Hades liked men who showed honor, though they never lived very long. Those who did lost their honor very, very quickly. “You know nothing of what I would do,” Hades growled lowly, something in his eyes flashing. “You know nothing of me besides what you’ve gleaned from a boy who’s obviously desperate for your attention.” Hades had no idea why Nico would cling to Kelsier, but he didn’t have time to question it. What mattered was that he didn’t know what he would do, in his world. “I don’t make a habit of outright killing those that decide picking a fight with me is smart. They’ll find their way to me eventually, I don’t have to expend any effort. When they make their way to me, my opinion on them has little bearing on where they end up. You may not like me, Survivor of Hathsin, but I am nothing if not just. I keep a balance. I have allowed many I personally disliked, heroes who confronted me and broke my rules, who decided that they knew better than me how my empire should be run… I have allowed many like that into Paradise. I have sentenced as many to Punishment. You know nothing of what I would do if my full powers were at my disposal.” Kelsier had crossed a line. Kelsier had crossed many lines. That didn’t mean that Hades was going to kill him. Although… he would never get the chance to punish him if he let him just go back to wherever he was from. “You would give yourself up so easily?” Hades asked, a note of disbelief in his voice. It was tempting. He wouldn’t kill Kelsier outright for defying him, but if the man was handing himself over on a silver platter, who was Hades to refuse? His eyes narrowed as he searched Kelsier’s. “This is a trick,” he said calmly, deciding after a few agonizing moments. “What are you playing at?” Kelsier wasn’t as lucky as he had wanted to be. Nico hadn’t caught most of what he was saying to Hades, and he didn’t want to turn around and make Sam face the god again, but he heard what Kelsier offered him, and he froze. He glanced at Sam, well aware that the vampire boy had heard it as well. His heart thudded in his chest and he turned, looking at Kelsier for just a moment too long. He couldn’t let this happen. He couldn’t let Hades take Kelsier… there was no guarantee that deaths in the House were always temporary. And what if the House decided it would be amusing to let Hades actually take Kelsier’s soul to his version of the Underworld? What if Nico never saw him again? Fear boiled in his chest, almost escaping through his throat. His grip on Sam’s arm had tightened, and it was taking all of his effort not to run between them to intercede. He had to see what Hades was going to do, first. And he had to get Sam out of here. But he didn’t have time. And he couldn’t lose Kelsier. Part of him thought he might hate the man for putting him in this position. First he had made him choose between Kelsier and Hades, and now Nico had to choose between Kelsier’s life and Sam’s well-being. He was caught in the middle, unsure where to run. “What the hell are you doing?” he muttered under his breath, trying to force his breathing to return to normal. Kelsier had a world to save. He wouldn’t be taking this risk unless he knew what he was doing… right? Did he really not realize that making Nico watch him die, even if it was temporary, was one of the worst things Nico could imagine? He shook the thought off, turning all of his attention back to Sam. He had to get him to safety. He had to make sure they both got out of this, even if they couldn’t actually save Kelsier. He took in a deep breath, forging ahead and following the direction Sam had urged them to take. They needed to get out of there. Kelsier could hold his own just fine. At least… Nico had to hope. He wasn’t going to make it worse by interfering, though he felt his grip on Sam tighten with the thought. He needed to remember why he was here, not involved in the conflict. Getting Sam to safety. That was what mattered more than anything else.

Nico thought he hated the House just a little bit for sending some sort of foe their way when they were having a perfectly engaging conversation on their own. He wanted to hear about sea monsters. He wanted to hear about Hook’s life, even if piracy lacked much of the glory he had once imagined when he was much younger. He hadn’t really been looking for glory. He had just been looking for other outsiders, other people who felt they didn’t fit in with the way society was meant to run. He had found that in pirates. Though Hook was a generally unpleasant individual, Nico thought the two of them probably had more in common than either of them realized or were willing to admit. “Well,” Nico murmured, stalling for time as he tried to think of a good way out of the situation they were in. He didn’t know the layout of the ship, so he couldn’t suggest anything terribly specific, but he did have a couple of ideas brewing in his mind. He wished they had an idea of where the majority of the threat was gathered. Actually, he wished he had any idea at all about how many people they were going to have to face. “What do people usually do when they see a ghost on a ship?” Nico asked after a moment, looking up to face Hook. “I mean… if we can lure any of them down here with a ghost, then we could pick them off one by one. And I just so happen to be able to summon ghosts.”

That was a question which Kid didn't know how to answer. He spent his time walking slowly along the forest path some more. After a minute or less, a light drizzle could be heard over head, but even that was slow to reach them, only a couple drops making it through the leaves overheard. It was, to Kid, the prompting he needed to actually say something. "Me, I think. Though I'll admit I'm not completely sure. It's all ... very complicated. Confusing. And a lot has changed." He wasn't sure if it was an adjustment which he was going to get used to. At least that was what it felt like. He spent a long time, looking off into space again. There was a lot to think about and even more to try and focus on. "What should we do for this room?" he eventually asked with a sign. "I'm sure there's only so long anyone is willing to listen to what I have to say. There's a lot here ... going on in my head. Unpacking it all on you would be unfair. So anyway ... the room ..."

“Pictionary,” Zuko repeated, brow raising a little bit as he repeated the unfamiliar word. He was grateful that Sal was describing it, as he wouldn’t have been able to guess based on its name. It took him a few moments before he slowly slid his swords back into their sheaths, deciding that the room wasn’t a threat at the moment. If this… Pictionary became dangerous, he was going to have them out in seconds. “No competition,” he agreed, though he didn’t know if he was disappointed or relieved by that. Perhaps relieved, for the moment. He didn’t want to lose just because he didn’t understand the game yet, but he figured it might be a little bit more fun if they had a competitive element to it. He shook the thought off, instead turning his full attention to the board. “So… you’re going to draw something? And I have to guess whatever it is you’re drawing? That doesn’t sound… too difficult.” Zuko was waiting for the catch, but he didn’t say it out loud.

</div> There wasn't time to cry, which in Kid's opinion was exactly what they needed. He was pretty sure he'd have time to panic if that was the case. Adjusting his stance, he ended up gritting his teeth. There was still ghosts of when he'd been injured, playing with his thoughts and keeping him in a bit of pain. But he ignored them and instead focused on where Touka was pointing. He did not want to end up floating around in space without any sort of reference while his own insides turned against him ... forever. Not a fun experience that he wanted to try. Kid headed directly toward the door, trying to keep all of his attention focused on the floor that Touka had just pointed to. "Seven," he confirmed. "Got it. The only thing is ... I don't think space ships really go up, so I'm only guessing that we somehow have to walk there." That was his thought, at any rate. He was going to assume this was the case. That past seven, there would be an eight. He hoped. As for walking, he wanted to run, but at the moment things seemed to be shaking too much for him to go faster than a speed walk.

Hook - Pirate Room - strider
Hook kept his gaze fixed, lost in his own thoughts as he gave Nico time to come up with a suggestion. While they could push their way to the upper deck and just wish for the best in a fight, he could agree that luring a small number down to their level was the most ideal strategy. They could at least get an idea for what they were up against that way. It was just a matter of how they’d get only a small part of the crew without attracting too much attention.
“What?” He reacted sharply to Nico’s question, casting him a baffled look. As the teen elaborated the pirates face only looked more and more confused. “What?” he said again, this time with more passion. “How long have you been doing that for?” He whispered in brief genuine bewilderment before remembering what he’d been asked and scoffing, “Usually people don’t just see ghost, particularly not on their own ship. Most men would panic…but, I suppose a proper crew might think to investigate.” He squinted in thought, then shrugged. “If not, chaos could potentially earn us an opening.” He gave Nico an slight nod of approval, though he seemed indifferent to the plan’s effectiveness. He wasn’t the type of person to have much loyalty to plans anyway, he was typically more successful by acting on impulse once a situation presented itself. Though, admittedly he was pretty interested in seeing a ghost summoned.

"What happened to them after that?" Sam asked. Or he tried to ask, only he found himself looking at a row of fences and ferns instead of the display case he'd been looking at before. He took several steps back, almost running into Nico as he did. It would seem that he'd blinked in directly behind the other blinker. Almost at once, he had to grin, surprised and pleased to see the demigod. "Nico!" he said brightly. Then he looked around, reading over the sign as he did. "... We're at a zoo?" The question was obviously rhetorical. There was no real way for Sam to think otherwise - the House had indeed blinked them into a room with a zoo. "Have you ever been to a zoo?" he asked Nico, sounding a bit awed already. And he could only see the plaque.

Nico glanced up at the sound of Sam’s voice, unable to hide the twitch of a smile that crossed his lips. He didn’t want to hide it, either. Even with the stress of their last room together, he was grateful for the chance to see his friend again. To spend more time with him, hopefully when neither of them were in peril. He slung his jacket over his shoulder, forgetting about the hole for now. “I’ve never actually been inside a zoo,” he admitted with a small shrug, looking past the plaque as though expecting to see animals just wandering the pathways. “I’ve heard about them, though. And I know people who have seen them. Have… you?” He wasn’t sure what he wanted the answer to be. Part of him hoped that this was both of their first times… that way they could explore and share all of the excitement together. And maybe they could see some animals that neither of them had ever even imagined.

A humorless smile settled over Nico’s lips at Hook’s reaction. He didn’t know how much the pirate knew about his powers, but given the fact that he hadn’t even known Hook’s profession before this room, he had a feeling that it wasn’t much. It was odd that they knew so little about each other given how many blinks they had shared. Perhaps dying at each other’s hands had put a damper on their ability to bond and get to know each other. Nico frowned a little at the thought, pushing it away. It had been the House’s fault that Hook had killed Nico twice, and as far as he was aware it had nothing to do with how close they were. They just… had never really had the opportunity to talk. Seeing as they had been interrupted here, too, perhaps the House just didn’t like the idea of the two of them actually getting to know each other. “What kind of ghost would freak them out the most, do you think?” Nico asked, casting his attention to whatever souls had died nearby. There weren’t many to choose from, but he was able to pinpoint… “There’s an old man who used to be a sailor. A young woman who snuck aboard a ship… a child… and another pirate. Which would be best, do you think?”

"I haven't," Sam said cheerfully. Excitedly, really. He hadn't been to a zoo and neither had Nico. That made it seem like there were a bunch of unexplored possibilities which he didn't think that they had run across before. That was exhilarating for him to enjoy something that neither of them had been to before. "Where should we go?" Sam asked. He was looking around much like Nico was. He at least had an idea that the animals were not going to appear from behind a corner at any second, but he also didn't know what the House intended. Actually, considering the House, zoo animals roaming free was right in line with everything else. "Think we have to get tickets?" he asked. He didn't have money ...

A tiny smile flickered across Nico’s face as Sam revealed that it was new to him, too. In theory, Nico knew how zoos worked. He knew how they had worked in the past, at least. They had improved a lot since then, if others were to be believed. Now they were more focused on conservation instead of just sticking animals in cages and letting human beings watch them for hours on end. Considering this was the Paradox House, Nico found he hoped it boasted a more conservation based zoo rather than one that was just meant to showcase unhappy animals. “Do you have a favorite animal?” Nico asked, gaze skimming over the map. His eyes landed on the section labeled ‘bats,’ but he wasn’t sure how much Sam would appreciate that, given the correlation between bats and vampires. They were nice animals, as far as Nico was concerned, but he didn’t want to make Sam uncomfortable. “Hm?” Nico closed his eyes, sensing outwards. “There’s nobody here to take tickets, so… I certainly hope not. And if we do… we can just break in.”

Sal knew that he needed to be on gaurd, and he knew this could very easily go bad, very quickly, but…it was his first room. That he knew about, anyway. He didn’t really know how bad pictionary could be…it was about the most innocent game he knew of. He didn’t play it a lot or anything, but he was pretty good at guessing. “You haven’t seen me draw yet,” he warned, considering the section of wall he’d picked. “Say that after you know what you’re getting into. Also, you kind of just jinxed us, a little.” He frowned a little, eyeing the board. What could he draw that would be challenging, but not impossible…and that Zuko knew about. If they were actually from different worlds, that was probably a necessary consideration too. Asking would miss the mark a little bit. He selected a brown marker and began to draw a tree trunk. If Zuko’s world didn’t have trees, well…that would be unfortunate.

Zuko knew the House was unpredictable. He knew that anything could become dangerous at any moment, but he wanted to believe that this wouldn’t. Was Sal right, that commenting that this might be easier than it seemed had jinxed them? He would have to wait and see if anything bad happened as they began playing. As it turned out, Sal was probably better at art than Zuko was. Zuko was… passable, but he hadn’t actually expected Sal to be so meticulous about changing out the colors. He tilted his head, trying to make sense of the object that Sal was drawing. “A… branch?” Zuko asked, tilting his head. A large ‘thud’ sounded behind him as a tree branch fell from the ceiling, still half covered in leaves. Zuko took a step forward, clearly shocked by the falling object. Well… perhaps that was just a coincidence? But this was the House. There were no coincidences. He’d have to be a lot more careful about getting things wrong.

Sal had tried to do art, many times, but he’d always ended up with pictures that just felt…flat. He didn’t mind that much, really. Ashley, now she could do real art. Sal liked to watch her, sometimes, when she got going on a piece. At least pictionary was not the place for detailed portraits. He could make this understandable. He jumped at the thud, almost messing up his tree completely, and turned to see what had…oh. “Tree branch. That’s a little bit…coincidental.” He muttered, glancing at Zuko for a moment before he turned back to his picture. Thankfully, he didn’t think it could be mistaken for anything…venomous. He picked out some green and began on the leaves. “Can we both just promise not to draw anything that could kill us? So we don’t even need to guess those.”

I mean, they're all pretty cool. I just like birds." He couldn't help snorting a bit when Nico said to break in. A giggle, really. He was looking at the signs too, not particularly paying attention to any of them in particular, only trying to see where everything was. "Do you have a favorite animal?" he asked Nico. The question interested him, that was for sure, but he would have really liked to know more regarding what Nico liked. "I ... would think we're okay about not having a ticket," Sam said with some hesitation. "Or I hope so at least."

Zuko frowned a little bit, his attention still fully on the branch that had seemingly fallen out of nowhere. He knew he shouldn’t have been more surprised by the House’s chaos than Sal was, but it had been… well, very unexpected. He took in a deep breath, then turned back to look at whatever it was Sal was drawing. He had been close, at least, but… he was a little bit nervous to guess again in case whatever he guessed killed them, but… “Yeah, nothing that could kill us,” Zuko agreed, his gaze moving back to the branch. “Which means nothing carnivorous or poisonous… and nothing big enough to crush us.” Hopefully that would cover all of their bases. “Are you drawing a tree?” he asked after a moment, feeling as though that was probably the closest to what Sal was drawing. His hesitation wasn’t born from the drawing, just… the fact that they were in danger if he guessed the wrong sort of thing.

Nico’s gaze drifted down to the pendant hanging from Sam’s neck, a small smile pressing against his lips. Birds. Yes, that made sense. He glanced down at the map, pointing out where it said there was an aviary. “We should go here, first,” he said confidently, then looked up and began to move towards the main entrance. Hopefully there would be a portable map somewhere that they could take with them. If not… well, then they would figure it out. It might be fun to just wander around a little bit. “Favorite animal,” Nico repeated, trying to consider. He did like bats, but he wasn’t entirely certain they were his favorites. “I guess… I don’t know. I tend to like deer and other things that are quiet and come out mostly at night. But I don’t know if I really have a favorite. I’m not the biggest fan of primates… but tarantulas are fun. Sometimes.”

Juuzou didn’t think he was being overly cynical to suspect Orihara-human’s observation was less incomplete and more utterly fabricated with the specific intent to cause problems. He’d never met him, but he’d heard enough carefully constructed lies to know the taste of one, and it was just a little bit too on the nose as far as what would harm Asami. If you were convinced you couldn’t make friends, you’d end up sabotaging yourself and fulfilling your own prophecy with very little outside help. It wasn’t like he didn’t think humans could be cruel, either…he was on their side in the war against ghouls, but he didn’t have to like them all, did he? “I think that’s true,” he told her, looking down and scuffing the ground with one slipper as he considered her theory. “I guess it’s harder when there’s no one in the world like you, though. Until you find someone else who’s not like anyone else.” He looked up, red eyes serious as they held hers. “I think that this is a good place for irregularities. I’m not friends with the people here or anything, but I think there’s a lot of other irregularities here, too. Maybe this is where we tend to end up…maybe you’re right. We need a place to congregate, and here we all are.” Asami | Juuzou | ®Hawkpath® |"There are a great number of irregularities here," agreed Asami, thinking of the dog that could talk and the other humans who did not fit with what she had come to expect from a human. "This area itself is an irregularity," she said, one eyestalk staring at Juuzou while the other returned to watching the fireworks. "Things are not supposed to disappear and appear. Things are supposed to stay where they are." While she spoke, a tendril lifted itself upward and spread out at the end, shifting into a multi-pronged, flower-like shape in imitation of the fireworks.

Vincent - Living Room - rain Vince kept his composure as the stranger addressed him, though a smile crossed his face as they finished. He let the silence after their pause resonate momentarily, giving them a keen look over. There was a lot to learn from the short exchange, given that the stranger had a naturally entertaining presence. He smile remained soft, innocent even - to the untrained eye - as he glanced over the new blinker a final time. “Forgive me,” he stated coyly, clearly disinterested in his own apology. “Are you new?” He asked, making a small assumption with the information he’d seem. They’d seemed a bit confused in the seconds he saw after his blink, but that could mean several things. If anything, making a mistake could make for interesting conversation. Double Trouble | Living room | des |It seemed, at least, that they'd managed to stumble on a stranger who was mildly interesting. Or at least who appeared to be so far, between his overconfident swagger, his clearly false innocence, and his smooth talk even in the face of.....well, them. Although, he was really kidding himself if he thought that smile was fooling anyone.
Well. Maybe it would fool someone. People very often failed to notice what was right in front of them. But it certainly was not fooling this someone. "New here? Yes. New to magic? Hardly," they said, twirling the end of their tail around their fingers as they spoke. "And you? When I first saw you I assumed you were in charge of the place, but, well..." They gestured up and down Vincent with one hand, as if that was all that was needed to get the basic point across. "Obviously not."

Sam | Zoo Room | strider"Alright!" Sam said happily. His eyes were fixed on the aviary sign, having no idea what might be there. None at all. While he knew a lot of different sorts of birds, he actually wasn't too sure what a zoo might have. Peacocks, maybe? He followed after Nico, not quite sure where he was going, but fine with him anyway. He was pleased to have any options, if he was honest. After all, this wasn't a place he'd ever been before. And Nico was good company. "Oh?" Sam said. There was almost a flicker of a smile at the mention of things which mostly came out at night. Maybe this whole idea of vampire hood was slightly better today. Or maybe it was just easier around Nico. "Deer at a zoo ... wonder what sort there'd be? We'll have to find out. Why are we heading toward the front?" He looked around vaguely, but at least so far the only things to either side were green trees, grass, and the fence to either side of them. Nice, but not really animal filled.

“Maybe nothing alive, actually…” Sal murmured, frowning a little at his attempt at a tree. It broke the rules, a little. It would be bad if a tree fell on someone. But for a first try, he thought it was alright. Then Zuko guessed it, anyway, and he turned, giving a nod. “Yep. It’s a tree. I guess it’s lucky that I didn’t pick anything dangerous that time…now we know not to pick bad things. Which narrows our options, a little.” He shook his head, looking at Zuko for a long moment before he stepped back, giving him room to use the wall. “I’m better at guessing than I am at drawing,” he warned. At least they did have trees in Zuko’s world. He had to wonder if Zuko was going to pick anything he didn’t know about…

Spook blinked into the hall, stopping abruptly as he realized he was no longer in the dark space outside the room the crew had been sitting in. They’d been talking about a job, of course, or rather a part of the job they were currently on. He had been eavesdropping, as usual. He recognized where he’d appeared. He’d even had it explained last time, a little bit…Matt hadn’t been the most helpful, but he’d given a lot more information than Spook had had before. He tiptoed towards the living room and peered inside, trying to see if anyone else was there. Empty…as far as he could tell. It was possible there was someone hiding, but…he didn’t think so. He only had one vial of tin on him at the moment. Plus a bit he hadn’t burned yet already in his system. He hesitated, then burned it, listening for the breathing that would give away anyone hidden. Hopefully.

There wasn't anyone in the hallway other than Spook. Not just yet. It wasn't until the Doctor appeared, holding what appeared to be a screwdriver, that there was someone to hear. "Oh," she said, surprised. It had been a bit since she had been in the House. She wasn't completely sure what to think. She did notice Spook almost at once and waved. It was the same hand which had the screwdriver in it. "Hello there!" She clearly wasn't aware of the nervousness. At least not yet. "I'm the Doctor! Who might you be?" Her words were bright and cheery, for all intents and purposes. She did, however, look a bit unnerving with her smile. It was a bit too bright and wide to be 'usual.' Though it was completely genuine, so there wasn't a lot that the Doctor could do about it. "New to the House?" she added.

Spook was so focused on the living room, he didn’t realize anyone had appeared behind him until the voice (louder due to tin) cut through his senses. He extinguished the metal and whipped around, eyes wide as he took in the newcomer. He knew pepper did that, here…just appeared out of nowhere like that. He just wasn’t at all used to the idea. She looked…very cheerful. He stared at her, heart thudding in his chest as he tried to decide how to handle this. His usual solution, which was fleeing and disappearing, didn’t seem that likely to work when she was blocking the way into the hall, and there was only a room. Well…and a lot of doors. Matt had said those were sometimes really dangerous, though. He shifted his weight uneasily. Finally, he just shook his head a tiny bit. He wasn’t new, technically. This was his second time, as far as he knew.

“I don’t know if there’ll be deer at a zoo,” Nico admitted with a small shrug. “But there will be other ungulates, I’m pretty sure. And maybe some of them will be more active now because it’s dusk.” Nico didn’t know how long it would stay dusk, but he rather hoped that it would last for the entire time they were in the room. As far as he was aware, animals tended to be more active at dusk than they were at night or in the day. It was a nice in between time, when nocturnal animals were beginning to wake up and diurnal ones weren’t quite ready to go to sleep. Or maybe Nico was just being idealistic and hoping to see the most animals he and Sam could. “We have to go through the front to get to the exhibits, I think,” Nico said, turning back so he could face Sam. He didn’t mind walking backwards – the thought occurred to him that Sam might think him cool because of it, but he pushed that away before he could begin to dwell on it. “And besides, the aviary was this way. There are gonna be lots of birds for you to see in the aviary.”
