Zuko’s eyes were wide as he looked at the mess he had created. He hadn’t meant to set anything on fire… he had just meant to define a boundary… Pride forgotten, he backed up, moving towards the hall. He gasped quietly, searching for a way for both Kelsier and Nico to get to the hallway as well. Fortunately, the flames hadn’t completely blocked their way yet. He hadn’t meant to cause this… and the anger in Kelsier’s voice reminded him just a little too much of his father’s voice during the Agni Kai. He felt young, and scared, and he’d messed up in a way he didn’t know how to fix. Firebending should have come with a way to put fires out. As he grew older, he would learn not to mind what he burned down. Now, though… the flames creeping closer, growing higher… he wasn’t prepared for them. He turned, running into the hallway. Nico wasn’t sure exactly what had happened, only that there was smoke, only that it was hard to breathe, and Kelsier was standing in front of the couch holding a dagger that it looked like he intended to use. Something bad had happened, but he couldn’t quite pinpoint what. Sleepily, he stood up and stumbled forward, hand reaching out to grasp Kelsier’s forearm. He wasn’t exactly surprised that this had happened, but… it was frustrating. And it was so much easier to just accept it and let Kelsier lead them out of the living room. Somewhere safe.

(Thanks! She's pretty easy-going and loves to talk so Zuko's found himself good partner for conversation xD)
Scarlet | Living Room 4.0 | striderThe boy was sure struggeling with something. Apart from holding a normal conversation, it seems. By the way he turned away from her and some other times he'd acted weird, she could assume there was probably something on his mind. Scarlet could still see the caution in his movements and expression. Whatever this poor fellow had been though must've really gotten to him... maybe it had something to do with his scar? But she stopped herself from blurting out the question. She might ask about it later.
Scarlet turned her attention back to Zuko at his next question. "Oh! No we just say that based on what most of the planet's surface is like. There can always be smaller areas we call 'biomes' that can be other things. I once saw a rainbow oasis with rainbow trees on a desert planet, for example."
The boy was more curious than he looked with how many questions he asked. Not that she minded that at all, it was always good to meet another adventurous spirit.
"Yeah! They're basically two stars orbiting each other. I guess they remind me of me and my brother a little. Despite, y'know, the part where they might crash into or absorb each other!" she laughed a little at that. Her and Vermillion got along much better than that.
The Novakid listened with interest as he explained how the fire powers were normal for his world. That was interesting. Maybe the humans there developed this bending stuff as a self-defence, since she couldn't see any weapons on him either. She nodded as Zuko spoke of the airbender. The shady guy that apparently got them here and might also work as a bartender. Scarlet should probably check on that once she got back.
She felt a little perplexed at his next question. Maybe Zuko couldn't see right through that scarred eye of his. "Uhh, yeah? My body is glowing all the time. Though it's not very bright and maybe you can't see it in this light very well." She scanned the cieling for a moment before turning back to him and raising her hand up for emphasis. "See? My 'skin' is translucent, so you can see the chemical reactions throughout my body which give off light."

Kelsier stared at Zuko and as he did, some of the anger melted away. Or...relocated. Zuko looked small and frightened now and Kel shook his head, clearing it as best he could. How had it happened again? He knew better than this...he should know better than this. He hated the House for this. Hated the way it seemed bent on confusing him, the way it took what he thought he knew and turned it on its head. And he couldn’t even blame the House this time, not really, because it was his reaction once again that had caused this. His own fault. Don’t you ever learn? At least Zuko had fled. Kelsier looked down as Nico grasped his forearm and forced a smile he didn’t feel, And he began to lead the way. Would Nico ever trust him again? Would he ever let himself fall asleep in the House like that? He needed to, Kelsier thought, frustration burning inside of him, he needed the time the House gave him, to rest. Kelsier had asked him to take advantage of the time he had, and the moment he did, the living room was on fire. At least he’d gotten a couple hours rest first...but he should have been able to wake up on his own. He made it to the hall, and looked around for Zuko, eyes no longer dark with fury. He’d have like to think there was some magical way for the other blinker to put out the flames, but he was pretty sure if there was, he would have done it already. “Are you alright?” He asked, turning to look at Nico, searching the kid’s face.

Nico didn’t blame Kelsier for what had happened. How could he? The House was stupid and unpredictable, and there was nothing Kelsier could do to change that fact. He was still somewhat disoriented, though, squinting at the flames and just letting Kelsier take the lead. He hadn’t wanted to sleep in the first place – it hadn’t been part of the plan, at the very least. He didn’t know if he would try to sleep in the House again, but if he did… it would probably be with Kelsier still present. He was more tired now, though, than when he had first fallen asleep. It was something to do with being woken up so soon after falling. “Yeah, I’m fine,” Nico murmured, not quite leaning his weight against Kelsier but coming very close to doing so. The sound of doors slamming could be heard ahead, and Nico blinked, looking up in surprise. Zuko opened one door after another, yelling in frustration as he realized there was no way to see inside them. He was looking for… well, he didn’t really know what he was looking for. Water. Of any kind. It was the spirit world, if things were flammable, there needed to be water somewhere! He slammed yet another door closed, gritting his teeth. He was barely aware that Nico and Kelsier had entered the hall as well. He was just… looking for something to fix his mistake. In the palace, there were servants who could put out any accidental fires. And on the ship? Well… it was pretty hard to start a fire on a metal ship. And if you did? There was an entire ocean right there.

Hook planted his feet in the sand as Shade spun on him, strengthening his gut in order to take the kick to the side. Unfortunately the attack came on his left side, which meant he didn’t have a hand to easily try and grab her with. He hesitated to try and slash open her leg as he might have if she were someone else, and his moment of pause was enough that she’d already fallen back by the time he snapped back into focus. He turned sharply as she dropped to the ground, instinctively leaping up and over her kick in perfect timing, one leg hitting the ground before the other and pivoting in the dirt as he spun to try and bring his other knee towards where she was still low to the earth.

Although for the most part it worked, she did wind up on her back from unbalancing herself. "Whoops..." she mumbled, grinning and winking at him, then pushing off with her hands behind her shoulders on the ground and flipping herself upright to face him again.

Kelsier | Living Room/Hallway | striderAt least none of them had gotten hurt so far, though the flames were still definitely very much alive. At least they weren’t there anymore. Were they safe in the hall? Probably not...it wasn’t like there was some invisible barrier between them and the flames. Which meant they would probably have to go into a room. Dammit. He didn’t want to do that, not with Nico in need of rest. It would be just like the House to give them a fighting room, too, just because it could. He was about ready to challenge the House to a duel right then and there. He considered trying it, wondered if he could offend it enough to make it face him...he was sure others had tried it, but others had tried to rebel in his world, too. They weren’t him. Come and face me, House. He thought it fiercely, pouring all his anger into the words. Come and face me. Are you afraid? Do you know I could kill you? Coward! Come face me!He tried to believe it would work. He imagined the House appearing, imagined fighting it, winning against it. Ending it. What would happen then? Would the house they stood in now disappear? Would he never see Nico again? No...he had to believe he would find a way. He could stop it and have the friendships he’d made. He could have both, he knew he could find a way. He looked up as he saw Zuko opening doors, blinked as he tried to figure out...oh. He understood it by the third door. Dammit. No one had explained the House to the other kid before. Because it was a kid. Kelsier cursed himself for once again missing that. “That won’t work.” He called, still angry but not with Zuko now. Much. “We might have to go in one, though. Oh, they can be dangerous. Just so you know. More dangerous than burning to a crisp? Probably.”

The pirate staggered backwards as she pushed him back, dangerously unbalanced for several seconds before he managed to steady himself again. He glanced down at his opponent on the floor, the distance he’d taken to stabilize himself being too much for him to quickly take advantage of her positioning; not to mention the fact he was more than willing to take the opportunity to catch his breath as he lazily approached. He grinned back at her once she sprung back up, only a few inches of space between them as he paused to look her over. “Careful,” he cautioned through his smile, still breathless. He leaned forward slowly, as if to continue the conversation, then abruptly (though somewhat predictably) reared back with his left elbow; sweeping towards her head.

“Are you… from a planet?” Zuko asked a little awkwardly. He was aware that wasn’t really… a normal question. Logically, everyone came from a planet. But if there were space ships and people travelled between planets all the time, wasn’t it possible that Scarlet didn’t have a planet to call home? He considered for a long moment, wondering what his own world would be classified as. It didn’t really seem to be a majority… anything. It was just a planet with lots of different places and forests and regions that were entirely covered in ice. The rainbow oasis sounded pretty, though, and Zuko couldn’t help but give a small smile as Scarlet mentioned it. He didn’t quite understand how trees could be rainbow, but… she had travelled more than he had, so he figured he’d take her word for it, until he saw rainbow trees for himself. Scarlet’s willingness to answer his questions combined with her affable nature was disarming. Zuko was still worried – he didn’t quite trust that she would stay this kind if she knew who he was, but… for now, it didn’t matter. He was enjoying listening to her and hearing about what she thought of as the world. Maybe the Spirit World had brought him here to help him find the Avatar. Maybe not. Maybe it had just pulled him here so he could meet people who had very different lives. Who lived in places that had the kind of peace the Fire Nation promised. Or maybe Zuko was just desperate to find meaning in something that had no meaning at all. “You have a brother?” he asked after a moment, tilting his head. The crashing into each other part reminded him a little too much of his own sister, but he pushed the thought away. It was always interesting to him that some families had siblings that got along much better than he and Azula did. “Oh.” Zuko tilted his head a little bit, eyes widening as he realized that she really was glowing. He had thought he was imagining it, and the lights from the living room drowned out some of the Novakid’s brightness, but he could see it now. “It’s… cool,” he managed after a few moments, giving a hesitant smile.

“You’re upset about something,” Nico murmured, looking up at Kelsier. He could see the look in his eyes, see the anger simmering just underneath the surface. He had seen that anger before, mostly directed at the House, but once… not too long ago… directed at him. He didn’t know what he was thinking. If he knew that Kelsier was planning on challenging the House to a duel, he would have told him to stop, right then and there. Told him that fighting the House was dangerous, that he didn’t want to lose him because he had a stupid death wish, didn’t… didn’t want to see the House try to hurt Kelsier any more than it already had. He remembered the weight of Kelsier’s body as he buried him. That hadn’t been too long ago, though it felt like ages ago. He didn’t know what Kelsier was thinking. He didn’t know why he was upset. Something, a voice in the back of his head, told him Kelsier was upset because of him. Upset because he’d fallen asleep, perhaps? Because his weight on Kelsier’s lap had meant he wasn’t able to get up and stop the living room from being lit on fire? Nico glanced back, wincing a little bit at the smoke. The House could put the fire out, Nico knew it could. It had just chosen not to. Zuko stepped back, brow furrowing as he looked at the doors in front of them. “You can’t see in the doors!” he protested, voice raised in frustration. “There should be water somewhere!” His eyes narrowed as he opened up another door, hoping it might be different. It wasn’t. Well… if it was dangerous, then at least Zuko knew how to fight. And he wasn’t going to back down, especially in front of someone who’d had the audacity to threaten him. Without giving it a second thought, he stepped into the room with far more confidence than he actually felt.

Kelsier glanced at Nico, and some of the anger softened a little at the words, though even that couldn’t drown it all out. He knew it was dangerous to challenge the House, he knew what a terrible idea that was, rationally he knew he shouldn’t try to make it angry, but this? This was why he hated it. It had power, and it used it freely, he knew no one dared challenge it. I dare. I challenge you. You should fear me.The thing was...it wasn’t just the House (okay, and Zuko) he was angry with. It was also himself. He’d made the exact same damn mistake again. The mistake that haunted him still, perhaps his biggest regret, or if not, then close. If he’d known Nico thought it was because of him, he’d have immediately assured him that wasn’t the case. That it was...well, because of himself. He tried to blame the House, even if he knew it was just because of who he was. He hadn’t changed one bit. Going back to that first time, he’d have done the exact same thing apparently, because he just didn’t seem to learn. “Don’t worry about it,” he answered quietly, shaking his head a little. He didn’t have time for this. “I’ll tell you about it later.” And he would. When they were safe. He looked up as Zuko spoke, pursing his lips at the boy, eyes narrowing. “That’s the way the House works.” He explained, his voice still tight. If Zuko had just listened, they would all be perfectly happy now, after all. He tried to ignore the fact that he wouldn’t have listened either, especially not when he’d been a kid...Marsh could attest to that. “Wait-“ But it was too late. He cursed quietly as the boy disappeared, then looked at Nico, an apology in his hazel eyes. “We should probably…?”

Izaya would have been fascinated to know what she felt, how she thought about what she’d done. Far from horror, he would have been excited to know how little she felt about it, and he might have picked her apart to see what made her feel it. Not in a dissect-your-brain way. That was Shinra’s area of expertise. No, he would do it in an external ways, he would get in her head and see what he could learn, see what made her work and what made her different and what made her interesting. “Almost.” He corrected her, walking to the side to see if she would follow him. He didn’t put the knife down, but he also didn’t seem to be paying it much attention. “It can come from strong emotional responses. You see something scary? You even think about something scary? It can get in your head, make you dream about it. That’s how humans work.” He watched her, stopping to look into her eye again. “Almost all humans are afraid of monsters.” He said bluntly. “Even if they say, ‘I’m not afraid of you’ or ‘I trust you’, they don’t mean it. Deep down, they never mean it.” He leaned closer, inches from her eye. “Do you think I should be concerned?” He asked quietly, turning the knife over and over in his hand. Asami | Living room | ®Hawkpath® |Her eye followed him as he moved, moving smoothly along to keep watching him as he moved about with seemingly no destination in mind. She had witnessed this in humans before...the need to move with no purpose. It was an odd thing that all of them seemed to do, but this one was especially active, moving from place to place almost constantly. "I see," she said, tilting her eyestalk down a bit as she considered this. "So it is impossible to befriend a human if you are a monster, because they will be afraid. If you ask them if they are afraid, they will tell a lie." She looked back up at him, the wide surface of her pupils reflecting his features with an eerie, fish-eye distortion. "You have no reason to be concerned," she said simply. It was not an attempt at reassurance - she was simply stating a fact. "I have no desire to kill humans. However, you will be afraid regardless of my words, correct? Because you are a human, and I am a monster."

Nico sighed, looking over at the door Zuko had disappeared into. He didn’t know what had happened, but he believed Kelsier. He’d find out eventually… they just had to go through a room first. Glancing back at the still-burning living room, Nico figured that it probably wasn’t the worst idea. He could try to make the room colder, see if that smothered the flames, but there was still the issue of the kid who had gone into the room by himself. Nico sighed, shaking his head. They needed to follow. Even if the kid was responsible for lighting the living room on fire, he didn’t deserve to go through a room alone. Nico let go of Kelsier’s arm, moving forward a few steps and opening the door. He propped it open for a few moments so Kelsier could follow, then stepped in. It was warm. Nico’s jacket and normal clothing disappeared, leaving him in skull-print swim trunks. Great. His scars stood out starkly against his pale skin, and his ribs showed through in a way that made him very conscious he needed to get his appetite back, and fast. He glanced at Kelsier, his discomfort obvious in his expression. Zuko was a few steps ahead, his swim trunks patterned with red flames against a black background. He had a red towel slung over his shoulder, and he had waded out a decent way into the ocean. Nico kept his distance, crossing his arms over his chest and trying to pretend he didn’t hate this. It wasn’t the first time he’d seen a room similar to this one, though. He gave a small sigh, stepping forward just enough to dip his toes into the water. It was cold, but not in an unpleasant way. And the sand was squishy and almost soothing under his feet. There was just the fact that being too close to water like this in his world would have gotten him killed almost instantly – at least until recently. Stupid gods.

The moment Kelsier stepped into the room, clothes shifted, changing into dagger patterned swim trunks, exposing the many scars he, too, had. They didn’t stick out as much as Nico’s did, but they were still very clearly there, and a good portion of them looked like they’d been life threatening. He caught Nico’s eye, and he frowned, the anger burning to life again. He took this to mean the House didn’t take kindly to his challenge, and had decided to make Nico uncomfortable in response. He hated it. He really, really wanted to kill it right there. Come on...don’t be a coward about it. Hiding behind what you can do. I’m challenging you. I’m going to kill you either way, so why not get it over with now?He wanted it to listen to him. Tried to force it to, in his head. He was confident he could kill it, he knew he could win, he had to… He watched Zuko for a moment, then shook his head. He didn’t know what the other boy was doing, but he supposed this could be worse...at least they weren’t in danger of burning to death anymore. Not that he had any mind to thank the House right now, He walked forward, the hard calluses on his feet from going barefoot so often making it hard to feel the sand. He reached the water and stood still, looking out at it, and reluctantly allowing a small smile to come over his features. “I’ve never seen so much water in one place.” He commented, glancing at Nico. He knew it existed in his world, he’d just...never seen it personally. He glanced at the blue, ash-free sky, then crouched and put one hand in the clear water. “Nice of the House to give us a peaceful room.” The words were said with no small amount of bitter sarcasm. Maybe he was angry with it for not giving him the challenge he’d asked for. Angry that it hadn’t even decided to punish him for daring try.

“I can.” Kelsier confirmed, equally excited about the prospect. Or maybe Myrnin’s excitement was just that contagious. He smiled, taking a coin out and Pushing it lightly, making it hover above his hand. “It’s the same thing that lets me seem like I’m flying.” He explained, dropping the coin back into his hand. “Well, not exactly.” He continued, taking out a third goal and handing it over. There were silvery flakes at the bottom on closer inspection, and he indicated them. “Those are the actual metals. They’re just in an alcohol solution so I can swallow them easier. If you swallowed it...I don’t know what would happen. It would make most humans sick, but I have no idea what it would do to you. Maybe nothing.” He turned his attention back to the frosting, and frowned a little, puzzled. “Don’t we need to stick the pieces of the house together first?” He asked, glancing curiously at Myrnin. He imagined that was how it worked, but he wouldn’t be surprised if he were wrong, since he was very new at all this.

“I’m really sick of water,” Nico commented softly, looking out over the vast expanse of it. “I was on a ship for the past week and a half or so.” He shook his head, glaring at the ocean for a long moment before allowing his expression to settle into something more neutral. “I think you’d like the lake at Camp Half-Blood. It’s like this, but no risk of being drowned by an angry god of the ocean.” Okay, so maybe that was more of a Nico-specific thing. Not everyone had almost killed the son of the sea god. But still. “I’d rather this than a violent room,” Nico admitted after a long moment, stepping back into the dry sand and sinking to his knees. It was warm here, and even if going back to sleep wasn’t going to happen, he could at least appreciate that the House had given them somewhere rather nice to lay. He could swim, if he wanted to. The swim trunks were an indication that was what the House wanted them to do, but since when did either of them do what the House wanted? “Have I ever told you about Venice?” he asked, letting his eyes drift closed, though the bright sun still painted the back of them orange in his vision. “You couldn’t get away from the water there. It’s a floating city.” He opened his eyes again, looking over at Kelsier. Zuko looked over, trying to determine what, exactly he was supposed to do here. He kicked at a clump of sand, arms crossing over his chest. The other two were clearly preoccupied, and he found he didn’t want to be near them anyway. He began to walk, moving closer to the shallow side so he wouldn’t have to fight the waves quite so much as he walked. Dangerous, huh? It seemed pretty safe to him. It reminded him of home – if he were honest with himself, he hated it. It was just like a slap in the face.

A single hanging lamp illuminated the space, and long shadows reaching out from it danced across the sandy floor. The shadows were connected to a pair of figures fighting in the ring, and as Enjolras's gaze went up from the shadows to the figures he recognized Shade and Hook. While it wasn't unexpected to see them together, it was unexpected to see them fighting. It made sense, though, for the room- it looked like a fighting ring on the rougher side of town. Hook knocked away the fist she returned towards him, then slid one foot back in the dirt as he evaded the next jab. Her kick collided with the back of only one leg, merely causing him an uncomfortable stumble before he was upright again, side stepping to circle back in front of her again. “Depends how long I’ve been drinkin,” he answered honestly, “or on how much fun I’m having.” He gave a sheepish shrug. “You scarcely find a drunk bastard that’ll try and sweep yer leg, though, shit.” He chuckled bitterly, sounding a bit offended by the number of times she’d attempted to knock him on his ass.

Hook put up his arm in defense of the quick attack, sending a quick jab towards her collar bone in response to the brief exchange. Seeing she brought up her knee again he jerked backwards again, using the opportunity to shove against her shoulder and potentially knock her off balance, or at least a step away from him as he readjusted. “Would you expect any less of me?” He replied with a smirk.
He tossed his head in the other blinker’s direction as Shade called attention to him, narrowing his eyes at the man. He then looked back at Shade with a sly grin, “aight love, no more cute shit.” With that, he moved at her with a hook from the right, immediately bringing up his left elbow towards her face from the other side - hoping to interrupt any attempt to dodge the initial blow. He kept his momentum forward, trying to overwhelm her enough to stay preoccupied and engaged with dodging and exchanging blows with her fist instead of the sneaky evasive shit he’d been letting her get away with before. Having one hand limited where he could attack from, but forgetting his left could have deadly consequences - even if the motion took more follow through. He struck towards her again, leaving limited time for her to think anything but defensively.

"Good evening!" He called back, a bit of amusement in his tone at her jovial greeting despite the fact that she was attempting to punch her boyfriend. He sucked in a breath as Hook slashed at her with his hook, though it was clear she could hold her own. Well, as the only other spectator besides the House, there was nothing to do but watch how the fight played out.

Shade | pIt fIgHT | Duking it out with Hook while Enj watches (tm)
In her momentary distraction he did manage to catch her collar bone and she coughed softly under her breath in response before calling out again. "How are you this evening, sir?" she inquired, grinning widely as she saw the change in Hook's stance that suggested he was getting serious. Likewise she readjusted a bit and flexed her fingers, lashing her tail with renewed excitement. "Bring it the [Oops!] on, babe."
Rather than dodge she lifted both forearms up to block and deflect the assault and instead of stopping completely, pushing them over her head while she tried to back up more and put some space between them. The pressing was making it difficult, although all the more entertaining. "This is entirely unfair, you know; I didn't get to keep my claws," she teased. Bracing her legs, she ducked his next swing and then leaped back a good few feet. "Maybe the house makes exceptions for those with very charming nicknames." After taking a moment to right herself she engaged again, spinning to aim a kick at his head from the left, then following through with the movement again from the left to catch his shoulder with her heel. And, at the same time, brushing her tail in his face to pick on him.

Hook chuckled as she leapt backward, flexing his ringed fingers as he slowly reproached. “It’s my most identifying quality,” he pointed out with a fond look towards his left arm. He ducked her first kick, but the second landed against his shoulder, where he hastily seized ahold of her ankle and pushed it away from him, huffing in annoyance at the flick in the face. “Spare me the bullshit about a disadvantage,” he spat afterwards, immediately lunging again. He instigated with a knee brought towards her stomach, following though by trying to grab the back of her shoulder and force her onto the ground as he shoved her down across his body.

Shade grinned at his agitation and chuckled softly as she righted herself and prepared to attack or duck away again. She brought up her own knee to knock against his, swatting his arm away and reaching with her free hand to punch the junction between his pec and his shoulder. Not wasting any time staying too close, she hopped half a step back to get some space and leaned into a back flip, aiming to knock her knee into his chin on the way.

PIT FIGHT
Hook found himself grinning again as Shade laughed, despite his lingering frustration. Shade’s crisp technique was keeping him keenly aware how sloppy his style was; which he found thoroughly impressive considering how effective his methods usually were. He recoiled backwards right as she spun her knee up at him, shaking his head slightly in response to the near miss of what would’ve been a shit tooth ache. A bit startled, he gave her a scowl for the theatrics then moved at her once once again, this time cutting up towards her gut with his fist.

PIT FIGHT
She landed lightly on her feet, uninterrupted by the miss and fully ready with her fists up when he started toward her again. Instead of letting his attack land, she took hold of his wrist and continued guiding it upwards so they were brought rather close. Using the close proximity, she made to hook her foot around his leg at the same time as jabbing at his stomach to try and set him off balance, still keeping hold of his wrist.
