Even many (if not all) Mozart operas are adaptions themselves (compare the original Don Juan with Moliere's Don Juan with Mozart's Don Giovanni as a good example of constant adapting and changing) so it makes sense in a weird way to keep the cycle of adaption going. Besides, as I said, it can be toyed around with a lot and still be recognizable

tfw an animated version of the magic flute from 1931 made by two people (when animation films weren't even much of A Thing) is better than the one from 1994 made by a whole group of people, somehowits one of those things that's deceptively simple once you get past the maddening love situations (I tried drawing a graph of all relations in The Marriage of Figaro. very confusing even on paper. Would Not Recommend) and its stereotype as this boring high art. It can be bent and stretched quite far, which is why I find it fascinating to see all of the different productions and their interpretations

@redheartofriverclan - awkwaaard When romance drives the entire plot Why? Why would you do that? lmao I guess sometimes that could be pretty cool. Technically, the operas we see are just interpretations of the scripts. We have no way of knowing the original.

it's usually simpler than it seems though, barring things like "how on earth did the Don manage to find 2065 women let alone 'date' them all" or the entirety of the Marriage of Figaro really (which is better experienced than explained lmao) my friends were tired of me confusing them with Marriage so they asked me to write down the whole thing for their reference it got very confusing very quickly

@redheartofriverclan - There's no way he actually did that, despite what Leporello syas (he's biased)
Marriage is way too confusing for words lmao. I wouldn't even know where to begin explaining it XD I didn't bother with my friends. Only my best friend who saw it could understand anyway x3

TV tropes did the math on that- if he saw one woman a night for the duration of the entire list it would take him over five years. the Don and Leporello must move at a lightning pace. I usually describe it as "the romantic comedy that ended up contributing to the French Revolution" which is accurate but turns many heads

you have to wonder where they got those numbers from lmao the marriage of figaro has also been referred by me as "the project", "the thing that predicted america's 2016-17 politics", "almost oedipus rex", "the thing that should've had a spinoff with Susanna's Drunk Uncle as the main character", "that", "the love dodecahedron", "this man tries to seduce a maid to cheat on his wife- what happens next will shock you", "the sequel that basically ruined the whole point of The Barber Of Seville but like in a good way", "feminism", "still better than the travesty that is Disney's Figaro", and "I don't even know what is this".

See all my dragons here and heredivider by xxliving the black paradexx on glittergraphics.comthere's a story I've heard that the librettist of Don Giovanni was friends with the real-life Casanova (the actual guy), and he had Casanova come up with those numbers. strange, but I've heard it quite a few times i have to even wonder how it would be theoretically possible for Marcellina to not notice the man she was attempting to marry was her own son until the very last second. like you'd think she'd be able to recognize him...apparently not. she must not be very good with maternal instincts, obviously

anime fan? divider by xxliving the black paradexx on glittergraphics.com there's a lot of opera legends and rumors like that I also appreciate how apparently Bartolo has such a beef with Figaro that he basically sends his own ex to marry him. he's just like "now it is your time marcellina. complete your civil duty"
