to be perfectly honest I'm only decent at writing things that seem very bizarre but somewhat work out actually, because I put more faith in those than I do Generic Stories my talents lie in adapting things. I often get intimidated by making a world of my own, so I take another's and alter it but by bit mashing other things from other works into it until it gets its own sort of flavor. I get intimidated by making my own characters so I take another's and alter them until they're different enough from their source material, and so on. Adapting and changing the characters is one of the most fun parts of Ensemble because you really get to screw around with how they're presented and what basically makes up them

@redheartofriverclan - That's not a bad thing at all, to adapt a world to your own. I'm sure many people do it. Having fun with a world and characters you love is important, I think. I always create a world and characters on the spot, but I don't have any attachments to them and can move on easily, which is where I fail x3 But, I guess knowing there's a problem is the first step

It's actually pretty surprising how much you can change the characters but still have them be recognizable as themselves. My version of Leporello, for example, is rather different than the opera's- yet he's still recognizably Leporello somehow.By extension, the entire thing is set with alley cats in Chicago, yet it's still recognizably Mozartean. Stories from the 18th century are remarkably agile in this sort of thing i find that I get attached to things I work on for a while because I put so much time and effort into them that I don't want Togo to waste

Mosspool - Well, that's fine, lol. I was just warning you about myself XD I've been swimming for as long as I can remember; I joined the swim team in high school.
What're you favorite things to do, then? Besides reading (this being a forum about Warriors, after all )

@redheartofriverclan - I'm beginning to see that. When I was younger, I didn't like that idea so much (changing someone else's world), but then I started reading fanfics. I realized that it can be really cool, without plagiarizing.
In Ensemble, with the characters I know, it feels like I have a head start to their backstory, so to speak, but I'm discovering things about them that are new. And it doesn't feel at all like a fanfic, partly because you weave different operas, but also because the characters stay true to their original form but have also improved (Papagena, as we discussed, and leaving out the, uh, ban-able stuff).

Mosspool - That's awesome~ I like some graphic design, like web pages. Well, I like TV a little too much, lol. But in all seriousness, I like writing (not sure if you knew that), drawing, coding (going back to web pages, lol). I'm really into all kinds of art, I guess. I guess I'm outdoorsy, but I never saw myself as the type until I realized that most people don't like hiking, camping, both, swimming in rivers, etc. I also love to travel. Do you like traveling? Please save them from utter destruction:divider by xxliving the black paradexx on glittergraphics.com there's honestly a lot that I've changed now that I think of it Elvira's motives for chasing down the Don relentlessly, for example, change because of a few minor additions to her backstory and what happened to her when the Don left her. But most of my changes are purely backstory or personality related (especially Tamino's backstory which is much much MUCH different than anything in The Magic Flute). its there to make them more varied and/or make a bit more sense

@redheartofriverclan - Is that so? That makes me pretty curious I can only image X3 I don't know anything about The Magic Flute, but you must've had to really change a lot (from what you wrote, he was stereotypical hero of the opera and a mary sue). To make him real™️, you have to change his entire character XD

Sarastro's backstory is changed pretty severely as well given Ensemble Sarastro is a dethroned king, not a Freemason. yeah there's a lot of differences ranging from the relationship of Don Ottavio and Donna Anna to Susanna's family matters to the already discussed thing with Leporello being in love with the Don. not all of them are obvious at first...

@redheartofriverclan - That's a huuuuge difference, lol. Really? Hmmm I can't wait to see that, since the whole thing was pretty funny in the original. I'm guessing it's not gonna be the same XD Though I swear Leporello was in love with the Don in the original ;'D

Yeah, it won't be the same in Ensemble, as with many things to be honest one of many useless lists I have is the "Reasons Why Leporello Is Gay And In Love With The Don" it's pretty comprehensive...

if it weren't for the times he probably would be written as such by Mozart and his librettists lmao the full list: -Leporello dancing with Masetto in the act 1 finale while the Don dances with Zerlina -when the don and leporello meet masetto and zerlina the don says of masetto "this is the way a real gentleman talks" and leporello adds "he must be a good husband" -at one point the don bribes leporello with money and leporello says "well this time i yeild but don't think you can get around me like you do with your women" which is an oddly specific thing to say there -when elvira chews out the don just before the commander scene for being faithless leporello starts repeating her and accuses the don of the same things she does -leporello wistfully telling elvira the don isn't worth her time as if he knows from past experience -the don and leporello continually referring to each other (and to masetto as well for some odd unknown reason) as "my dear (name)" -leporello not really seeming to care about any women the don has an interest in -leporello straight up telling the don to stop caring about women -leporello trying to save the Don in the finale by trying to get him away from the Commander (what with the "sorry but he doesn't have the time" thing) -Leporello refuses to refer to the Don as explicitly dead after his death (when that bit in the finale is included anyway)

@redheartofriverclan - -Did he really? I didn't see that -Ok, that's weird. Do straight men say that? I've never heard it -That is oddly specific. He didn't really have to mention the women? He could've easily said something like, "next time it'll cost you more" or "don't push me around" or anything else, really -Why would he do that? He's the servant. Why does he care? -As if he's a better option, lmao -I thought that was weird. If you look at the way Shakespeare wrote, he definitely didn't have men talk to each other like that! -Despite them being pretty. He doesn't flirt, he doesn't grope, he doesn't vie for their affection (as other men might stereotypically expected to do in that opera) -He did say that, lmao. "Love me instead, Don" is what that means -"Don't spend time with other men," lmao -Yeah, he was in a lot of denial. I thought it was weird how distraught he was

Please save them from utter destruction:divider by xxliving the black paradexx on glittergraphics.com -he really does, the Don tells him to distract masetto by dancing with him. masetto isn't enthused by the idea to say the least but Leporello carries on with orders anyway -Leporello brings up that sort of thing pretty often, which is really bizarre when this is supposed to be a monetary deal -Leporello also says he's about to weep out of sympathy for Elvira in the same part. there's no reason for him to say this other than that he knows how Elvira feels, and by extension... -he's slightly biased, obviously -yeah it does kind of get weird seeing them do this back and forth -the Don mentions him flirting a few times but it's important to note Leporello only does this when the Don is trying to as well (as if to put on the show that he's straight lmao) -the Don's response to that boils down to "I NEED TO BE HETEROSEXUAL DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND". Leporello is a bit miffed at this -not even if they're statues of old men you killed trying to send you to hell, apparently -yeah at the end he's like "he's gone far away" and everyone else is like "so he's dead" "no, he was...dragged down..,to another place... yeah that's the ticket" Leporello says he has a girlfriend but we all know the truth here lmao

Please save them from utter destruction:divider by xxliving the black paradexx on glittergraphics.com -it's a bizarre form of distraction to be honest -Leporello does seem to have some kind of envy towards the Don because the Don has a better time in the world of flirting. but of course he would! Leporello's trying to go after the Don for god's sake -there's a lot of things where it seems Leporello and Elvira are more similar than either of them would care to admit -everyone's biased in the world of opera who are we kidding. -it gets even stranger when the Don describes the way Leporello's girlfriend greeted him when she mistook the Don for Leporello: it's basically the exact same "my dear" schtick -yeah basically -Leporello seems to feel like this constantly. hell, in the opening lines he's all "yeah you stay in there with a woman see if I care" -Leporello is very good at denying things, ranging from "it's all the Don's fault I'm 100% innocent" to "yeah he's still alive he's just... gone... a lot" and besides Leporello only mentions the girlfriend once- the rest of the time he's solely focused on the Don he can't hide anything

@redheartofriverclan - Seriously. Back when I watched it, I was younger so I didn't even think about how strangely Leporello acted towards the Don. At some points, I was like, "he acts gay" but not like now where I'm like, "yeah, he gay af" lmao. Biases run the opera world, tbh. And yeah, there's no way men call each other "my dear". Leporello is so in denile; he saw the incident with his own eyes, lmao. He's way too concerned with the Don

its one of those things that you only can understand a little until you put two and two together and everything makes sense there's a few productions I've seen online where Leporello's outright caressing the Don or something in Ensemble the whole ordeal with being taken to the Incinerator/CatHell involves the Don literally burning up and having his flesh melt and all sorts of gruesome crap (and it's implied in Ensemble the whole ordeal gave Leporello some sort of post traumatic stress) so of course he's being in denial
