Scarletpaw snorted as she looked at Yellowpaw and smirked. “Just this once. Got it? It’ll be the only time I let you win.” She turned suddenly though as she heard Hollowpaw’s outcry. She quickly tapped her tail on Yellowpaw’s muzzle and ushered.
“Shhh! Hollowpaw’s going to catch a mouse, and it’s got to be an impressive one. Alright, Hollowpaw, Southmist tells me the trick is to slide your paws instead of stepping with them, vibrations and all that fun stuff. Got it?”

(I'm ready to go!)
Featherfoot padded behind the patrol, eyes glancing around as he carried all his prey in his jaws. He glanced down at Tigerpaw, still very proud of his apprentice for catching so much prey. Surely Lightningstar would be impressed by the result of their hunt.

Tigerpaw padded along behind Featherfoot. He was starting to trail behind, very tired from the long day. He had never walked so far in his life!

Ghostscreech led the way back into camp and headed towards the fresh-kill pile, dropping his prey onto it. He turned toFeatherfoot and Tigerpaw, “You two go ahead and get some rest, it’s been a long day.” He said before turning to Willowsong and addressing her, “Can you stay here with these two?” He asked, nodding to Mist and Pebble. “I’m going to go and see Lightningstar and report to him that we have returned.” Ghostscreech added.

Featherfoot nodded to Ghostscreech, placing his prey down on the pile and giving a deep purr. He was surprised when he noticed his father limping towards him. Yarrowcloud's good eye was glowing with surprise and delight as he eyed their catches. The elder exclaimed.
"Starclan above, look at all that prey! And so fat, too! I can see the patrol was a resounding success!" He praised.
"Woah!" Dawnpaw, having just returned from his own patrol to return the Riverclan cats back to the border, scampered quickly towards Tigerpaw. He smiled brightly, looking at his brother. "Check you out! I can see why Lightningstar wanted you to go with the patrol, look at all you caught, Tigerpaw!" He purred, happy to see Tigerpaw in such a good mood.
"I've never seen so much prey be brought in on one patrol." Vixenrose purred, padding towards the patrol and looking proudly at Tigerpaw. She had been so worried that he would somehow run into harm out there, and even worse, if he somehow ran into Shadeclaw. But Tigerpaw seemed fine, and happy even! She purred warmly, love in her eyes. She turned then to look at Mist and Pebble, eyes widening. "Oh. Who are you two?"
Frostmoon watched the patrol come in, noticing the sheer success they had. What struck her the hardest was how content Ghostscreech seemed, and certainly how happy Willowsong looked at his side. Her fur bristled lightly as she noticed the two small cats with Willowsong. Had Ghostscreech brought cats back to camp? Even worse, why did everyone look so calm about it? She flicked her tail, wishing her chest wasn't aching so hard as she clawed at the ground quietly.

Tigerpaw puffed his chest proudly. “Featherfoot said I was an excellent hunter!” He boasted to his brother. He purred when he mother approached and he move to muzzle into her side. “Here I want you to have this mouse I caught.” He gave his mother one of his mice.
Flamestrike moved up next to his mate. “Wow! Someone had a successful trip.” He purred softly, looking at Tigerpaw.
Lightningstar had been resting in his den, eyes shut. The commotion of the patrol returning and roused him. He stepped from the den to see Ghostscreech approaching. “How was the patrol?” He called over.

"I'm Pebble," the gray-and-white tabby tom purred cheerfully, tail waving enthusiastically despite the aching of his paws.
"And I'm Mist," the blue-gray she-cat murmured, voice softer and calmer than her brother's."We're originally loners from Twoleggedplace, but Ghostscreech has offered us a place in ThunderClan, assuming Lightningstar approves."

Ghostscreech turned at Lightningstar’s call and approached him, dipping his head to his former mentor, “It went well. Amazingly well. The Clan will well tonight.” He purred, nodding to the fresh-kill pile before growing serious once more, glancing at Mist and Pebble again, “There’s something else. We found a couple of kits that were alone in the Twolegplace. They didn’t have anyone else, so we brought them here.” He reported, watching Lightningstar carefully. It was hard to tell how the old leader would take to the news.

Vixenrose purred when Tigerpaw offered her the mouse. She rolled it close to her, genuinely enticed by the sheer size of it. "This'll be enough for both your father and I. As for your other mouse, I think that the elders may like it." She nodded towards the elder's den, wanting Tigerpaw to make sure he was feeding the elders and queens too. She moved to lick between Tigerpaw's ears, though her eyes flicked up to Mist and Pebble, deeming them as non-threatening due to how young they were. "Featherfoot never lies, so you must have been." Dawnpaw chuckled, waving his tail happily for his brother, before he blinked kindly at Mist and Pebble. "I see! You two look pretty young. If you were older, I doubt Ghostscreech would bring you here, but that's all talk and circumstance. Hi! I'm Dawnpaw!"

Scarletpaw nodded, urging the younger she-cat with a stern yet supportive tone. "Right paw, slide forward, left paw, slide forward, same thing with your hind paws, until you start to feel like a snake. Right? Then, when you get close enough that the scent hits your nose super hard, you strike! Got it? It's gonna be hard to know if you've in the perfect position, but I guess all you can do it practice until it's second nature." She explained, nudging Hollowpaw's legs to start doing the motions.

Hollowpaw started moving, following the scent of the mouse and sliding her paws as she stalked after it. She moved at a careful pace before coming to a complete stop when the mouse scent hit her nose all at once. She flicked her ear, listening to the mouse as it moved around in the pine needles, trying to pinpoint its exact location. Hollowpaw lunged suddenly, but her jump was off and she landed right next to it instead and making it squeak and dart off.
Hollowpaw huffed in annoyance, sitting down with a thump. Figures that she would misjudge her lunge and miss the mouse.

Scarletpaw admitted, genuinely surprised at how close Hollowpaw had gotten even though she had not caught the mouse. "And for a cat with no sight, even more so. Really, like I said, it's just a matter of practice, practice, practice." Scarletpaw hummed thoughtfully, before she smirked. "I have an idea. What if we practiced it? I can find something with a strong scent, like a flower or something, and place it in different places and you pounce on it each time. Might help you get that accuracy down if you're going by scent."

Willowsong stood next to Ghostscreech, muscles tense as she waited for Lightningstar's approval of Mist and Pebble. She would fight for the young cats if she had to.
Seafoam ambled out of the elder's den, looking at the returning patrol in surprise. He turned sticking her head back into the den. "Badgernight! The twoleg patrol was very successful. Wake up you furball!"

Lightningstar listened to the report, nodding as Ghostscreech spoke. “Good, I’m glad the patrol was successful. I hope Skyclan was cooperative.” He commented. He looked past Ghostscreech to the two young cats when he mentioned them, having not noticed them before. Lightningstar looked back at his deputy and nodded. “Good. They look barely old enough to be away from their mother. I’m glad you brought them. Thunderclan would never turn a cat in need away, especially kits.”

Ghostscreech flicked his ear in relief, glad that Lightningstar wasn’t going to turn the kits away. “They say that they’re eight moons old now. They’re old enough to become apprentices.” He said, glancing back at Mist and Pebble. “But I think it might be safe to have them checked over by Peachdapple before anything else.” He suggested

They have a pretty strong scent.” She mewed, turning her head towards Scarletpaw. She wasn’t sure if there would still be any flowers around while it was the middle of leafbare.

Don’t we have enough cats in the Clan that we have to feed?” He muttered with a sneer.

Admittedly, she had found herself talking to him more and more, and while she always had trouble socializing, it seemed that Forestblaze didn’t find her standoffish or reserved like many cats did. It was nice to have a friend that wasn’t the Clan’s next leader, as much as she wanted to feel that she was good enough for Ghostscreech to see as a dependable cat and equal. For now, she glanced at Forestblaze and huffed lightly. “I imagine if anyone else brought them in, we would be chastised for it… but since it is Ghostscreech, I imagine he will be praised for his selflessness.” She felt a knot in her belly for saying such of him, but this was also one of Lightningstar’s apprentices, and she knew there was a reason Ghostscreech would be chosen over others as deputy. She pushed away the pang of disdain at her conflicting feelings, before she sighed. “I suppose if we hunt enough in Twolegplace, it will be manageable… I’m just concerned these two strangers won’t be able to handle the stress, and could run off half-way through training if they did stay… this kind of life isn’t what most loners or kittypets want…” She admitted, neither kind nor unkind. She had no judgement for them for their birth, her own father was born from a loner, but she didn’t like the thought of resources being wasted. “I suppose they’ll just have to prove themselves…”

Lightningstar nodded his head in agreement. They certainly looked underfed and weak. “Yes, take them to see Peachdapple. Have her check them out and give them some prey.” He looked at Ghostscreech. “They can sleep in the medicine cat den for a night or two to get their strength back.”

Forestblaze was once again surprised to hear the she-cat talk about Ghostscreech like this, especially since she had seemed to think so highly about him before. “I hear you two had a slight argument while out on a border patrol. What happened there?” He asked curiously.
Ghostscreech nodded and looked back at Willowsong, “Take them to see Peachdapple.” He said, flicking his tail towards the medicine den. He turned back to Lightningstar, “Have you eaten yet?” He asked.

"There's no need to have so much energy," Mist mewed quietly. "You're just as tired as I am, if not more. You aren't used to going too far past our den, and now we're pretty far away from it. We need to rest."

That’s all on you to find, got it?” Scarletpaw asked, though her voice was rich with determined humor. The gruff she-cat picked up the pinecone and started easy, placing it in the open in the small clearing to their right. “I-…” Frostmoon hesitated to reply, a part of her wanting to agree just to feel the ease of the frustration in her, though another part of her scolded her that Ghostscreech wasn’t a bad or underserving cat at all. He had always worked hard, and yet Frostmoon felt a flicker of anger when looking at him as he spoke to Willowsong… and it frightened her because she did not know why she was feeling that way. She focused on Forestblaze’s question instead, trying not to stare at the deputy and Willowsong. “Great. Did Autumnfall go talking about that? Hmph. It was hardly an argument. We just… had different opinions, about what should be done with Sunningrocks.” She sighed deeply. “Not that I should have any opinion after that battle, should I…” She felt disappointment fill her again at the thought of the loss of Sunningrocks, and they needed it more than ever right now. She looked away from Forestblaze, wondering if he found her to be a disappointment too.
